For millions of years the sun rises and brings new hope, new life. Every morning the whole earth gets a golden glow. The important question to ponder is whether human beings get a new understanding. It's a moot question that requires deep introspection. 

What is understanding ? This itself is a bigger question.

How to live one's life ? How to protect the environment surrounding us ? How to enjoy & protect the environment ? If one can find answers and act accordingly then one can say that we have attained a certain level of understanding. Wise readers must have understood what I am talking about.

It is all about loving the nature and understanding the importance of protecting it. This is a season of rain and time to plant the trees. We are very much ignorant about tree plantation. The understanding that one is required to have is not there with the result earth has become scorching hot and we are facing the consequences of it. Its either floods or drought that we have to face. 

However, people associated with VSSM have understood the importance of cooling the earth and we started tree plantation in a big way. We also take care & nurture the trees. Trees are like God to us and we must plant them in every monsoon. But we are selfish and therefore we forgot the importance of tree plantation. We at VSSM not only plant trees but also worship them. 

In Sardarpura village of Banaskantha, we planted 15000 trees with the help of Shri Rameshbhai Mehta of Rosy Blue India Pvt Ltd.  The villagers gave us the land after removing the wild growth. We fenced the land with wires, arranged for drip irrigation, dug the land and planted the trees. We will now employ one person who will take care of the plantation. 

The youths of the village are very enthusiastic. They took full responsibility for protecting the trees. They arranged for water from the borewells of two farmers.

If this type of awareness comes in every village then the whole earth can turn green. The earth was initially, when formed, a fiery globe. It cooled and then the trees grew. However as humans progressed, we started cutting trees and the green jungles started getting smaller. That's what we are now trying to reverse. Create more jungles. 

In Banaskantha we have 129 such locations where we have planted about 4.72 lakhs trees. This year we will plant 3.5 lakhs more. 

These are sweet remembrances of Sardarpura village where we did the tree worship.

કરોડો વર્ષથી નિયત સમયે સવાર પડે, સૂરજદાદા ક્યારેય મોડા પડ્યાનું આપણે સાંભળ્યું કે જોયું નથી. સવાર સાથે જીવન ઊગે, પ્રકાશ ઊગે સમગ્ર ધરતી ખીલી ઊઠે. પણ શું માણસની સમજણ સવાર સાથે ઊગે છે? વિચારવા જેવો પ્રશ્ન છે. 

સમજણ એટલે શું? એ પણ મોટો પ્રશ્ન. 

મારે મન જીવવું કેવી રીતે? આપણી આસપાસ જે છે એને જાળવવું કેવી રીતે? એને માણવું, આબાધીત રાખવું કેવી રીતે? આ બધા પ્રશ્નોના જવાબ મળી જાય તો સમજણ એક સ્તરની આવી ગઈ..

સમજદાર મિત્રો સમજી પણ ગયા હશે કે કોની વાત કરી રહી છું.

પ્રકૃતિ પ્રેમી છીએ અને એના મહત્વને સમજીયે એટલે એની જ વાત. વળી આ ઋતુ વરસાદની અને વૃક્ષોને આ ધરતીમાં પ્રત્યારોપીત કરવાની. વૃક્ષો બાબતે આપણે સાવ ઉદાસીન. આમાં જે સમજણ આપણે દાખવવાની છે એ આપણે દાખવી નથી રહ્યા પરિણામે ધરતી ગરમલાય થઈ રહી છે અને એના વિપરીત પરિણામો પણ આપણી ભોગવી રહ્યા છીએ. અતિવૃષ્ટિ, દુષ્કાળ જેવી અનેક કુદરતી આફતો એના લીધે સર્જાય છે.

ખેર VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સૌ સ્વજનોને મા ધરતીને ઠંડી કરવાનું સમજાયું એટલે અમે વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. આમ તો વૃક્ષ એ આપણો જીવતો જાગતો દેવ. એનું સ્થાપન તો દર ચોમાસે સરસ થવું જોઈએ. પણ આપણે સ્વાર્થી થયા એટલે એના મહત્વને ભૂલ્યા.

અમે વૃક્ષોનું સ્થાપન પૂજન સાથે કરીએ.

બનાસકાંઠાનું સરદારપુરા ગામ. 15000 થી વધારે વૃક્ષો અમે રોઝી બ્લુ ઈન્ડિયા પ્રા.લી. આદરણીય શ્રી રશેલભાઈ મહેતાની મદદથી  વાવવાનું કર્યું. ગામે ગાંડા બાવળ કાઢી જગ્યા અમને આપી. તારની વાડ, ડ્રીપ, ખાડા કરવા વૃક્ષોને લાવી વાવવાનું અમે કર્યું. હવે પગારદાર માણસ થકી આ વૃક્ષોનું અમે જતન કરીશું.

ગામના યુવાનોની ટીમ બહુ ઉત્સાહી. એમણે પૂર્ણ જવાબદારી સાથે વૃક્ષોને ઉછેરવાની જવાબદારી લીધી. પાણી માટેની વ્યવસ્થા એમણે બે ખેડૂતોના બોરવેલમાંથી કરી છે. 

દરેક ગામ આ પ્રકારે જાગૃત થાય તો આખી ધરતી હરિયાળી થઈ જાય એ નક્કી. આમ તો પૃથ્વીની ઉત્પત્તી થઈ ત્યારે એ ઘગતા ગોળા જેવી હતી. ધીમે ધીમે ઠંડી પડી અને પછી વૃક્ષો આચ્છાદીત બની પણ આપણે આપણી જરૃરિયાત મુજબ એ વૃક્ષોને કાપતા ગયા ને જંગલોનો ભાગ ઘટતો ગયો. 

બસ આ જંગલો વધારવાનું અમે કરી રહ્યા છે.

બનાસકાંઠામાં 129 ગ્રામવનોમાં અમારા 4.72 લાખ વૃક્ષો ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. આ વર્ષે 3.5 લાખ વૃક્ષો વાવીશું.

"I just could not fathom what to do when gushing waters came & flooded our house. If we tried to save our belongings there was a danger of losing our lives. So I just picked up the kids and took a bus & left the village. We stayed wherever we got shelter. I kept on thinking of what would have happened to our belongings that we left behind in the village, My mind was just blank as it kept on thinking of this."  With a heavy heart Kakukaka  who lost everything in the floods that devastated Junagadh said this.

Another instance of Parasben who had just two days back given birth to a baby girl. She was resting on her cot when floods suddenly came. She was not destined to rest.  She just got hold of her baby & started wading through knee deep waters in search of a shelter. She found a roof under which she took shelter.  However she was worried about her temporary shelter. Once the flood water recedes she had to return back to her temporary shelter. .Whether anything would be left of her shelter was a big question that worried her & she could not sleep the whole night.  When she reached there in the morning, there was no roof in existence. They had barely managed to put up a roof after doing hard labour. They had absolutely no savings to fall back upon & restart their lives. They were totally dependent on the help that they would get in the form of food packets. There was no work available for them to earn a living. 

Such tragic stories were seen in plenty. It was heart wrenching.

The Collector of Junagadh, Shri Ranavasiya is a very sensitive & humane person. He called us up after flood waters receded to check whether we could help.  All  the families that were badly affected were nomads. Collector knew that we work for nomads so he remembered to call us for help.

It is our duty to help all who are in distress. There is no distinction made on the basis of caste or creed. Our colleagues of VSSM felt that a small help like distribution of food packets may not be enough.  Rameshbhai, Ghulambhai & Ghanshyambhai  went across the banks of river Kalwa and surveyed about 500 families who had badly suffered in the floods. They recommended that we should help by giving them Foodgrains, Tarpaulin, Blankets, Clothes etc. To give all these items to over 500 families meant that our need for funds increased tremendously. But we had to help them. 

We were hopeful of help from our well-wishers. We and respected Shri Rashminbhai Sanghvi sent one appeal to our well wishers. Within a short time we got required funds by way of donations from our well wishers. With the available funds we could help over 500 families.

The families like that of Parasben said that all the items like foodgrain, tarpaulin, clothes etc were like God sent.  Parasben said that she being pregnant & her husband being handicapped it would have been difficult for them to survive. But with this help they are now in a position to overcome tough times. Kakukaka appreciated that the kit that we gave was really substantial help, quite unlike small kits that others normally give.

The government administration was with us at the time of kit distribution. The long term solution lies in providing concrete houses to these people who are staying on Government land. We discussed this issue with the Collector. He, being sensitive to the issue, said that the Government will definitely help. Nothing can happen without Governement's approval. 

The affected families & the Government officers were happy when they saw the kit that we were distributing. Several well wishers came together to help. We are thankful to them for responding positively to our one call. We at VSSM are thankful to them for their faith in us.

'કેવું ઘસમસતું પાણી આવ્યું. ઘડીક તો શું કરવું કશું સમજાયું નહીં. સામાન બચાવવાની લાય કરીએ તો જીવથી જઈએ એવું હતું એટલે છોકરાં છૈયા લઈને બસ નીકળી ગયા. જ્યાં આશરો મળ્યો ત્યાં રહ્યા. ઘરની શું સ્થિતિ થઈ હશે, સામાન રહ્યો હશે કે કેમ? વિચારી વિચારીને મગજ કાણું થઈ ગયેલું.' જુનાગઢમાં આવેલા પુરમાં જેમનું બધુ તારાજ થઈ ગયું એવા કાકુકાકાએ વલોવાતા હૈયે આ વાત કરી.

તો પારસબહેને દીકરીને જન્મ આપે બે જ દિવસ થયા હતા. સુવાવડી ખાટલો પકડીને બેસે. પણ પારસબહેનના નસીબમાં ખાટલો નહોતો. પૂરના પાણી આવ્યા કે એમણે નાનકીને લઈને ગોંઠણ સમાણા પાણીમાં આશરો શોધવા નીકળવું પડ્યું. માથુ ઢાંકવા જગ્યા મળી પણ ચિંતા એમના છાપરાંની હતી. આશરો કાયમી નહોતો. પાણી ઓસરે કે એમને છાપરે પાછા ફરવાનું હતું. આ છાપરામાં કશું બચ્યું હશે કે કેમ તેની ચિંતામાં એ ઊંઘી પણ ન શક્યા. પાણી ઓશર્યું ને છાપરે પહોંચ્યા તો છાપરાંનું અસ્તિત્વ જ નહોતું રહ્યું. એક હતું છાપરુ એવું થઈ ગયેલું. દાડી મજૂરી કરીને પેટિયું રળતા આ પરિવાર પાસે બેંકમાં એવી કોઈ જમા પૂંજી નહોતી કે એ ઉપાડી લાવી ઘર સંસાર ફેર શરૃ કરે. 

માથે હાથ દઈને કોઈ ફૂડ પેકેટ આપી જાય તો એના ઉપર નભે.

કામ પણ મળવાનું શરૃ નહોતું થયું.

આવી તો અનેક લોકોની વિપદાઓ.. બધી લખીએ તો કાળજુ કંપી જાય.

જુનાગઢ કલેક્ટર શ્રી અનીલ રાણાવસિયા બહુ સંવેદનશીલ અધિકારી એમનો પુરના પાણી ઓસર્યા એ વેળા ફોન આવ્યો ને નુકશાન પામેલા પરિવારોને આપણે કોઈ મદદ કરી શકીએ કે કેમ તે અંગે પુછ્યું.

જેમની પાસે માલીકીની પોતાની જગ્યા, જમીન, ઘર હોય તેમને નુકશાની ભરપાઈ કરવાનું સરકાર કરે. પણ જેઓ સરકારી જમીન પર નાનકડા ઘર કે ઝૂંપડાં વાળીને રહે તેમને કેસડોલ એ પણ નજીવી રકમની મળે એ સિવાય કશું નહીં. લાગણીશીલ અધિકારી આ બધુ જાણે. એ ફૂડપેકેટ ને અન્ય જે થાય તે કરે પણ સંપૂર્ણ બેઠા કરવા જે મદદની જરૃર પડે તે ન કરી શકે.

વળી આ બધા પરિવારો અમારા એટલે કે વિચરતી જાતિના એટલે કલેક્ટર શ્રીને અમે યાદ આવ્યા.

મદદ તો આફતમાં આવેલા તમામને કરવાની હોય. એમાં નાત જાત ન જોવાની હોય. પણ નાનકડી મદદ ફૂડપેકેટ રૃપે કરવાથી કામ નહીં ચાલે એવું અમારા કાર્યકરને પ્રાથમિક સર્વેમાં લાગ્યું. રમેશભાઈ, ગુલામભાઈ અને ઘનશ્યામભાઈ અમારા કાર્યકર. ત્રણેયે ફરીને કાળવા નદીના પટ પર રહેતા ને નુકશાન પામેલા 500 પરિવારોનો સર્વે કર્યો ને વાસણ, રાશન એ પણ ખાસ્સુ ચાલે એટલું, તારપોલીન, ધાબળા, કપડાં વગેરે આપવાની વાત કરી. 

બજેટ પણ મોટુ થયું. અચાનક આવી પડેલી આફતને પહોંચી વળવાનું હતું. 

મદદ તમે સૌ સ્નેહીજનો કરશો તેવી આશા હતી અને એક અપીલ અમે અને એક અપીલ આદરણીય શ્રી રશ્મીનભાઈ સંઘવીએ કરી અને જોત જોતામાં મદદ મળી ગઈ..

આ મદદથી આપણે 500 પરિવારોને રાહત આપી શક્યા. 

પારસબહેન જેવા ઝૂંપડામાં રહેતા પરિવારોએ કહ્યું, 'તારપોલીન, વાસણ અને રાશનની કીટ જોઈને તમે નહી ંમાનો પણ અમને જાણે ભગવાને મોકલ્યું હોય એવી રાહત થઈ. મારો ઘરવાળો વિકલાંગ છે એક તો આમેય એને કામ શોધવામાં તકલીફ પડે. હું સુવાવડી. બાકી હું કામ શોધી કાઢું. પણ આ બધુ આ સંજોગોમાં શક્ય નહોતું. તમે મદદ કરી તે મારા દિવસો ટૂંકા થઈ ગયા.'

તો કાકુકાકા કહે, 'કીટ તો બધા આપે પણ આવી કીટ આપવી એ આપ્યું કહેવાય.. અમને એનાથી બહુ મોટી રાહત થઈ.'

વહીવટીતંત્ર કીટ વિતરણ વખતે સાથે રહ્યું. મૂળ તો સરકારી જગ્યામાં રહેતા આ પરિવારોને કાયમી વસવાટ માટે જગ્યા મળે તેમ કરવું પણ જરૃરી છે. જગ્યા મળે પોતાના પાક્કા સરસ ઘર થાય તો આ પરિવારોને ઘણી રાહત થાય અને આ કાર્ય તંત્રની મદદ વગર શક્ય નહીં. વળી નસીબજોગે કલેક્ટર પણ ઘણા ભલા. એટલે રાહતકાર્યોની સાથે કાયમી વ્યવસ્થાની વાત પણ કલેક્ટર શ્રીને કરી અને એમણે તુરત એ બાબતે જે પણ કરવું પડશે કરીશુંનું કહ્યું.

રાશનકીટમાં આપેલો સામાન જોઈને પરિવારો રાજી થયા સાથે સાથે વહીવટીતંત્ર પણ.

One lighted lamp can dispel darkness. In Society today we need to light different types of lamps to solve various problems. No doubt that society & problems go hand in hand. But we need to strive continuously to resolve the problems. The problem of scarcity of water is severe and has been getting more & more serious. Like lamp dispelling darkness, conservation is the solution to water scarcity problem. For that, the village, the society and the government have to act with determination. Governments at its level do try to solve the problem. However , when the problem is complex & large it is not wise to wait for only the government to act. The affected people must act themselves to solve the problem. 

We at VSSM at the institutional level are working in North Gujarat to dig the lakes so that more water can be conserved. So far we have dug 250 lakes. Amongst the many lakes dug by us , the one at Village Rugnathpura in Patan has got filled up with ample water due to good rains. 

In this village , the water level below 100 feet gave salted water. To get drinking water, one has to go below 1000 feet. The bore wells have to be dug so deep & that too doesn't guarantee success. If the lake 100 feet deep gets filled with water then villages can do farming with small borewells and can also take care of their cattles.

The scarcity of water led to many villagers migrating from their homes in the village.

With the help of respected Shri Rameshbhai Mehta of Rosy Blue India Pvt Ltd and respected Shri Sanjaybhai Shah of Star Chemicals, we dug two lakes in this village. 

Both the lakes got very well filled with water. On installing the pipeline , the lake will be able to supply drinking water to the villagers. With water sipping into the land, they will be able to do farming by making small borewells. The border of village Rugnathpura is quite long and there are several cattles and wild pigs which will also get water. Two lakes have become the source of survival & happiness for all in the village.

The awareness amongst the villagers towards the significance of water has increased. Due to the benefit that they have seen this year, they have already requested us to help in making the lakes still deeper. In this mission we at VSSM helped them by providing JCB excavating machines to excavate the soil in the lake and the villagers took the responsibility of picking up the excavated soil. The work was accomplished with such co-operation. We wish that this awareness spreads among more villages.

એક દિવો પ્રગટે ને અંધારાના પેટમાં શૂળ ભોંકાય. સમાજમાં આજે એક જુદા પ્રકારે દિવો પ્રગટાવવાની જરૃર છે. સમાજ છે એટલે સમસ્યાઓ રહેવાની. પણ એ સમસ્યાના સમાધાન શોધવા પ્રયત્નો સતત કરતા રહેવા પડે.

પાણીની સમસ્યા પણ સતતની. દિવો પ્રગટાવવાથી અંધારુ ભાગે એમ પાણી બચાવવાના કાર્યો કરવાથી એ સમસ્યાનું નિવારણ થઈ શકે.

પણ એ માટે ગામ, સમાજ, સરકાર સૌએ કટીબદ્ધ થવું પડે. સરકાર એની રીતે કોશીશ કરે છતાં જ્યારે સમસ્યા બહુ મોટી હોય ત્યારે માત્ર સરકાર કે અન્યોનો આધાર રાખીને બેસવા કરતા આપણે જાતે મથવાનું શરૃ કરવું પડે.

અમે સંસ્થાગત રીતે ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાના કાર્યો કરીએ. 250 તળાવો પાછલા કેટલાક વર્ષોમાં અમે ગાળ્યા. આ વર્ષે ગળાયેલા તળાવોમાંથી પાટણનું ઋગ્નથપુરાગામનું આ તળાવ. વરસાદ સારો પડ્યો તે સરસ ભરાયું. 

આ ગામમાં 100 ફૂટથી નીચે ખારુ પાણી. મીઠુ પાણી મેળવવા લોકો 1000 ફૂટના બોર કરે. પણ એ બધા પાછા સફળ થાય એમ પણ નહીં.

જો 100 ફૂટનું તળ બરાબર ભરાય તો એ કૂવાથી અથવા નાનો બોરવેલ બનાવી ખેતી કરી શકે, પોતાના ઢોરને નભાવી શકે.

પાણીની સમસ્યાના કારણે ગામમાંથી સ્થાળાંતર પણ ઘણા લોકો કરી ગયા. અમે આ ગામના બે તળાવો રોઝી બ્લુ ઈન્ડિયા પ્રા.લી. આદરણીય રશેલભાઈ મહેતા તેમજ સ્ટાર કેમીકલ આદરણીય શ્રી સંજયભાઈ શાહની મદદથી ઊંડા કર્યા.

આ બેય તળાવ સરસ ભરાયા. ખેડૂતોના મતે આ તળાવમાં પાઈપ મુકીને એ લોકો ખેતી માટે જરૃરી પીયતનું પાણી લઈ શકશે. વળી પાણી જમીનમાં ઉતરતા તેઓ નાના બોરવેલ બનાવી કે કૂવાથી ખેતી કરી શકશે. સાથે સાથે રૃગનાથપુરાની સીમ બહુ મોટી ત્યાં નીલગાય, જંગલી ભૂંડ વગેરે જેવા અસંખ્ય જીવો રહે. તે બધાને પણ આ તળાવમાંથી પાણી મળશે.

બે તળાવો ગામના તમામ જીવોની સુખાકારીમાં નિમિત્ત બન્યા.

ગામ ઘણું જાગૃત. આ વર્ષે તળાવ ગળાયા એનો ફાયદો જોઈને આવતા વર્ષે અમારા ગામના તળાવો હજુ વધારે ઊંડા અને પહોળા કરી આપજોની માંગ એમણે અત્યારથી જ કરી. 

જે તળાવો ગળાયા તેમાં અમે જેસીબી મશીન ખોદકામ માટે મુક્યું ને માટી ઉપાડવાનું કાર્ય ગામે પોતાની રીતે કર્યું. આમ ગામ અને VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા શુભચ્છેક સ્વજનની મદદથી સરસ તળાવ ગળાયા.

The significance of water is felt where there is scarcity. Recently I went to Dubai. I went for a Desert Safari & then bought 4 bottles of 500 ml of water. i had to shell out Rs 1,000 for 2 liters of water.It doesn't rain in Dubai so they have plants that desalinate sea water into drinking water. This is expensive. So they have understood the value of water.

We are blessed by nature with abundant rainfall. Even then by the time summer arrives we have scarcity of water. Water levels have fallen to dangerous levels. Especially in North Gujarat the condition is extremely worrisome.

We started water conservation work in North Gujarat.

This year we completed the digging of 250 lakes with the help of well-wishers who are associated with VSSM.  In the picture that you see , we completed the digging of a lake in  Gogapura in 2023. Fortunately the area had good rains and the lake filled up in time.

Respected Shri Ulhasbhai in memory of his father helped us in this work. What a wonderful homage to his dear father. This became possible because Shri Ulhasbhai is sympathetic to the work that we are doing.

The season for digging lakes is now over. The forthcoming season will start from January 2024. We expect that all villagers in the country rise and get the conservation of water work done in their respective villages. This will protect them from scarcity of water in future. 

We have set a target of 50 lakes for the next season. If we get cooperation from all concerned we will definitely accomplish this mission.

પાણીનું મહત્વ જ્યાં પાણીની મુશ્કેલી છે ત્યાં જઈએ તો વધારે સમજાય. હમણાં દુબઈ જવાનું થયું. રણ સફારી કરી એક દુકાનેથી પીવાના પાણીની 500 મી.લી.ની ચાર બોટલ લીધી. દુકાનદારને આ ચાર બોટલના 1000 રૃપિયા ચુકવ્યા. 

ત્યાં વરસાદ નહીંવત જેવો. દરિયાના પાણીમાંથી એ પીવાલયક પાણી બનાવે.

એટલે પાણીના મુલ્યને એ બરાબર સમજે છે.

આપણે ત્યાં કુદરતની રહેમ છે. વરસાદ મન મુકીને વરસે છતાં આપણા ત્યાં પણ ઉનાળો આવતા પાણીની મુશ્કેલીઓ સર્જાય. ભૂગર્ભજળ તો દેખીતી રીતે ભયંકર ઊંડા. ખાસ કરીને ઉત્તર ગુજરાતને સૌરાષ્ટ્રના કેટલાક વિસ્તારોમાં તો સ્થિતિ ચિંતા જનક છે.

અમે ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં જળસંચયના કાર્યો શરૃ કર્યા. 

250 તળાવો ગાળવાનો આંકડો આ વર્ષે સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્નહેજનોની મદદથી પૂર્ણ કર્યો. ફોટોમાં દેખાય એ ગોગાપુરાગામનું તળાવ અમે 2023માં ગળાવ્યું. ને વરસાદે જબરી રહેમ કરી તે સરસ ભરાયું. 

આદરણીય ઉલ્લાહસભાઈ પે માસ્ટરે તેમના પિતાની યાદમાં આ તળાવ ગળાવ્યું. કેવી સુંદર સ્મરણાંજલી. મુંબઈમાં રહેતા ઉલ્હાસભાઈની અમારા કાર્યો માટે લાગણી ઘણી માટે આ થઈ શક્યું. 

તળાવો ગળાવવાની આ સીઝન તો પુરી થઈ. આવતી સીઝન જાન્યુઆરી 2024 થી શરૃ થશે. એ વખતે દેશ આખાના ગ્રામજનો જાગે ને પોતાના ત્યાં પાણીના કાર્યો કરે જેથી ભવિષ્યને સુરક્ષીત કરી શકાય. અમે પણ આવતી સીઝનમાં 50 તળાવો કરવાનો લક્ષાંક નક્કી કર્યો છે. સૌ સહયોગ કરશે તો આ મનોરથ પણ પૂર્ણ થશે.

Raindrops get a sense of freedom from the clouds as they fall as rain on mother earth. Who doesn't like freedom ? Their freedom is temporary as we catch & confine them in our lakes.  We catch it for our benefit. It sounds a bit philosophical but it's nice.

We built lakes for our benefit. However, in this technological age the importance of lakes have reduced. In old days lakes/ponds were the heart of the village. All activities like bathing, washing clothes & vessels, water for animals etc used to take place at the lakes.

Then borewell came & water through pipes came into the tap of everyone's homes. Importance of lakes/ponds in the lives of people considerably reduced.

However to keep the water level from receding down lakes are important.

But we forgot the importance of lakes/ponds and today the water levels have fallen from 800feet to 12000feet.

We at VSSM have been actively enagaged in Banaskantha since 2016 to dredge, desilt lakes. Now in 2023 we have expanded our horizons to Patan, Mehsana & Sabarkantha areas. Lot of well wishers have been helping us in this activity but Shri Pratulbhai of. Shri K R Shroff Foundation have single handedly contributed towards the cost of 24 lakes. In fact we take pride in saying that we associated with Shri Pratulbhai in this task.

We dredged/desilted one lake with the help of villagers at Bodal in Banaskantha . Soon the rains arrived & in a very short time the lake got filled with water. Respected Ulhasbhai Paymaster contributed in desilting this lake. We are very much thankful to him for his very timely help.

It is our target to complete such 50 lakes in the year 2024. The society will help us in this noble cause.

વરસાદ મુક્તિ..

ટીપાઓ વરસાદ થકી મુક્તિનો અનુભવ કરે.

મુક્તિ કોને ન ગમે? હરેક વ્યક્તિ મુક્તિ ઈચ્છે... છતાં બંધનો સાથે જીવવાનું..

ટીપાઓ વરસાદ રૃપે મુક્ત થયા પછી આપણે એને તળાવરૃપી બંધનમાં બાંધીએ.. આપણી સુખાકારી માટે આ કરીએ. વાત જરા ફીલોસોફીકલ લાગે.. પણ છે મજાની...

તળાવો બાંધવાનું માણસોએ પોતાની સુખાકારી માટે જ કર્યું.. ટેકનોલોજીના આ યુગમાં તળાવોનું મહત્વ ઘટ્યું. બાકી તળાવ ગામોનું હૃદય હોતા. નાહવાનું, કપડાં, વાસણ ધોવાનું, ઢોરને પાણી પીવાનું બધુંયે ત્યાં થતું. 

પછી બોરવેલ આવ્યા અને ઘરે ઘરે નળ પણ.. એટલે તળાવોનું અન્ય કામો માટેનું મહત્વ ઘટ્યું. પણ ભૂગર્ભજળની સપાટીને એકબંધ રાખવા એનું મહત્વ પાછુ એટલુ ને એટલું જ..

પણ આપણે તળાવની આ ભૂમિકા ભૂલ્યા. એટલે જ પાણીના તળ આજે 800 થી લઈને 12000 ફુટ સુધી પહોંચ્યા છે. 

અમે ભૂગર્ભજળ સાબદા થાય તે માટે તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું કરીયે. 2016 થી આ કાર્ય બનાસકાંઠાથી શરૃ કર્યું.  2023માં અમે પાટણ, મહેસાણા અને સાબરકાંઠામાં પણ આ કાર્ય વિસ્તાર્યું. ઘણા બધા સ્વજનોએ મદદ કરી પણ ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનના આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈએ એકલાએ 24 તળાવ કરવામાં સહયોગ કર્યો. આમ તો અમે સાથે રહીને આ તળાવો ગાળ્યા એમ કહેવું વધારે ઉચીત.

બનાસકાંઠાના બોડાલનું આ તળાવ. ગામલોકોની ભાગીદારીથી અમે ગાળ્યું ને મેઘરાજાની મહેર થકી એ સરસ ભરાયું.

Just read the book written by respected Shri Dhruvdada (Bhatt). The story is fictional. The story is about how the man had to leave the polluted earth and was forced to live elsewhere. However, in reality we don't have an option to go to another planet. We do not have a choice but to stay on this earth. Therefore we do not have a choice but to keep the earth clean & beautiful. We may survive but what about our next generation?

In an effort to provide a clean environment to the next generation, we started planting trees.

In Jaswantpura village in Patan planted 4000 trees in the village graveyard and cemetery with the help of Anuhpharma. Thank you Anuhfarma &  Respected Bipinbhai and family.. We will take care of these trees for three years.

Our campaign of tree plantation has now started in Patan.

The village sarpanch himself took the initiative and invited us to plant the trees and take care of the trees. He saw the trees raised by us in the Shia of Banaskantha and the cemetery of Totanagam and invited us to do similar work in his village as well.We planted nice trees. This type of work has to be done continuously. We cannot be complacent. Like we regularly eat, walk similarly we environmental work also have to be done regularly. We just have to steadfastly keep ourselves committed to the task.

 આદરણીય ધ્રુવદાદા (ધ્રુવભટ્ટ) લીખીત ન ઈતિ પુસ્તક હમણાં વાચ્યું. પુસ્તકમાં વાત કાલ્પનીક છે. પણ એ કલ્પનામાં પૃથ્વી આપણે એટલી હદે પ્રદુષીત કરી કે પછી માણસે પૃથ્વી છોડી અન્ય જગ્યાએ રહેવા જવા મજબૂર થવું પડ્યું. દાદાએ કલ્પના કરી પણ હકીકતમાં અન્ય ગ્રહ પર કે અન્ય જગ્યાએ રહેવા જવાના વિકલ્પો આપણી પાસે નથી. ત્યારે આપણી ધરતીને ચોખ્ખી અને સુંદર રાખવાનું આપણે કરવું પડશે નહીં તો આપણે કદાચ જીવી જશું પણ આપણી આવનારી પેઢી?

ખેર આવનારી પેઢીને શુદ્ધ વાતાવારણ આપવાના પ્રયાસ રૃપે અમે વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. 

પાટણના હારીજનું જશવંતપુરાગામ. ગામના સ્મશાન અને કબ્રસ્તાનમાં અમે 4000 વૃક્ષો અનુહફાર્માની મદદથી વાવ્યા. આભાર અનુહફાર્મા. આદરણીય બીપીનભાઈ અને પરિવારજનોનો..  આ વૃક્ષોનું અમે ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી જતન કરીશું.

આમ હવે વૃક્ષ ઉછેરનું અમારુ અભીયાન પાટણમાં પણ શરૃ થયું. 

ગામના સરપંચે સામે ચાલીને વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવા અમને આમંત્રણ આપ્યું. એમણે બનાસકાંઠાના શિયા અને ટોટાણાગામના સ્મશાનમાં અમે ઉછેરેલા વૃક્ષો જોયા બસ એ જોઈને પોતાના ગામમાં પણ આવું સુંદર કાર્ય થાય એ માટે અમને આમંત્રણ આપ્યું. અને અમે સરસ વૃક્ષો કર્યા. 

કેટલાક કામો નિરંતર કરવા પડે. એમાં આળસ કરીએ તો ચાલે નહીં. જેમ કે જમવું, ચાલવું.. આ કાર્યો જેમ નિત કરવા પડે એજ રીતે પર્યાવરણના કામો પણ નીત - નિરંતર કરવા પડે. બસ આપણે એ માટે કટીબદ્ધ થઈએ એ ઈચ્છનીય...

"During monsoon we had to put cotton in the ears of the children &  then tie the ears with cloth & make them sleep. Many times while cooking, small black caterpillars would fall in the cooking vessel. What to do ? It would be nauseating to see them pile up. But we are helpless. We do not have a concrete house and who does not wish that ? But we are "Bhartharis" and our whole life we just played a primitive musical instrument & sang Bhajans and lived on whatever society gave us. We never could have surplus money so could not build or own a house. It is my desire that I have my own house with a foreground. My parents & grandparents also wished that they had their own house. Their wish remained unfulfilled. But because of Tohidbhai from VSSM our wish has been fulfilled"

This was said by Bhikhiben Bharthari of Raigadh village in Sabarkantha.

In 2017, the ration cards of these people staying in temporary structures became APL from BPL. In BPL one gets more food grains which is very important for them. Met Tohidbhai at the Collector's office while resolving the row related to BPL cards.

We got the BPL Ration Cards done. Also after much effort, the land was allotted for these families thanks to the co-operation of the panchayat. On this plot of land , the houses will be constructed. I went to the settlement to decide what type of houses they wanted. I was welcomed very warmly. They said they wanted roofed homes. Roofed home with one room, kitchen, toilet, bathroom would be quite expensive. The families said Rs 1.32 lakhs will come from Government, VSSM well wishers will contribute and the balance amount would be contributed by Villagers. They said they would not like to have houses free. What a noble thought.

Donation came from Dr Nitin Suman Shah's Heart Foundation. I am grateful to Dr Nitinbhai.

We decided to start the work immediately. We will get the foundation work done as soon as the rains stop. The Prime Minister's resolve, administration's support and society come together, the houses will definitely be constructed.

Many thanks to the administration of Sabarkantha. With their kind feelings this work was done.

 'ચોમાસામાં તો છોકરાંઓને કાનમાં રૃ નાખી કપડુ બાંધીને ઊંઘાડવા પડે.  ઘણી વખત રસોઈ કરતી વખતે છાપરાં ઉપરથી આ ચુડેલો(નાની કાળી ઈયળ) રાંધવાનું રાંધતા હોય એમાં પડે. શું કરવાનું? એમનો ઢગલો જોઈને ચીતરી ચડે પણ શું કરીએ? પોતાનું ઘર એ પણ પાક્કુ થાય એની હોંશ કોને ન હોય પણ અમે રહ્યા ભરથરી આખી જીંદગી રાવણહથ્થો વગાડી હાલરડાં ને ભજન ગાઈને સમાજ જે આપે તેના પર નભ્યા. પૈસા ટકાની ઝાઝી સગવડ અમારી પાસે ન મળે એટલે અમે પોતે ઘર કરી શકીએ એવી સ્થિતિયે નહીં. પણ સાચુ કહુ મારી બહુ ઈચ્છા મારો ચોકો (મૃત્યુ સમયે ઘરના આંગણામાં કે ઘરમાં મૃતદેહને ગાયના છાણનું લીંપણ કરીને સુવડાવે તે) મારી પોતાની જગ્યા, મારા ઘરમાં થાય એવી હતી. મારા જેવી ઈચ્છા અમારા મા-બાપે એમના મા-બાપે કરી હશે. પણ કોઈની ફળી નહીં. પણ આ તોહીદભાઈ(VSSMના કાર્યકર)ના પ્રતાપે મારી ફળી.

સાબરકાંઠાના રાયગઢના ભીખીબહેન ભરથરીએ આ વાત કરી. 

2017માં છાપરાંમાં રહેતા આ પરિવારોના રેશનકાર્ડ BPL માંથી APL થઈ ગયા. BPL રેશનકાર્ડમાં તેમને અનાજ વધારે મળે જે એમના માટે મોટો આધાર સમુ. વળી એમની સ્થિતિ તો જેવી હતી એવી જ હતી તો BPL રેશનકાર્ડમાંથી તેમના કાર્ડ APL કેવી રીતે થયા? એની રાવ લઈને કલેક્ટર કચેરીએ ગયા ને ત્યાં તોહીદભાઈ સાથે ભેટો થયો. 

રાશનકાર્ડ તો અમે BPL કરાવી આપ્યા. સાથે તેમને રહેવા જમીન મળે તે માટે પણ મથ્યા. આખરે પંચાયતની લાગણીના લીધે આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફળવાયા.

હવે આ પ્લોટ પર ઘર બંધાશે.

કેવા ઘર બાંધવા એની વાત કરવા વસાહતમાં ગઈ. એમણે સુંદર સ્વાગત કર્યું. પછી ધાબાવાળા ઘર કરજોનું કહ્યું.

ધાબાવાળા વળી એક રૃમ રસોડુ, ટોયલેટ, બાથરૃમવાળા ઘર બાંધવા ઘણા પૈસા થાય. તો આ પરિવારોએ કહ્યું, સરકારના 1.32 આવશે. VSSM મદદ કરે ને અમે પણ થોડા કાઢીશું. સાવ મફતનું અમારે નથી જોઈતું. કેવી અદભૂત લાગણી. 

સરકાર, આ પરિવારોની પોતાની રકમ ઉપરાંતની મદદ હાર્ટ ફાઉન્ડેશન- ડો. નિતીન સુમન શાહ કરશે. આદરણીય નિતીનભાઈની આ લાગણી માટે આભારી છું.

ઝટ કાર્ય શરૃ કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું છે. બસ વરસાદ થોડા ખમૈયા કરે તો પાયા ખોદાઈ જાય ને કામ ચાલુ થઈ જાય. 

પણ ઘર વગરના તમામ પરિવારોને ઘર આપવાનો વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીનો સંકલ્પ વહીવટીતંત્ર અને સમાજ સાથે આવે તો ચોક્કસ પૂર્ણ થાય.

સાબરકાંઠા વહીવટીતંત્રનો પણ આભાર. એમની લાગણીથી આ કાર્ય થઈ શક્યું.

 "Shambhu studies in my school. However he remains absent most of the days. He remains present just 5-6 days in a month. I went to see Shambhu at his house to find out the reason why he remains absent. What I saw was shocking" Parasbhai is a sympathetic & sensitive teacher in a medium school in Gutal Village in Kheda District. What Parasbhai described made us go to Shambhu's house.

Shambhu's father expired when he was just 3 months old. He was running a tyre puncture repair shop. He had cancer & was detected at a very last stage and there was no time left to treat him. Shambhu's mother was young so her father in law got her remarried to another person.  It was decided that after the mother is settled she will take Shambhu with her. Unfortunately that did not happen as even his mother expired when Shambhu was just 1.5 years old. Shambhu became an orphan when only 1.5 years old.

When Shambhu's father was detected with cancer, Shambhu fell ill. It was detected that he suffered from a disease which reduced his protein levels. It would take a long time to treat this illness. Shambhu's grandparents both worked as labourers on the farm. With their earnings they barely managed to survive. Also they had to keep some cash handy because Shambhu required to be taken to the hospital all of a sudden. Sometimes he even had to be admitted to the hospital.  Financially they were in a very precarious situation. The old couple stayed in a temporary structure with just a shed in Gutal. No vehicles even can reach there. They kept some goats with them in the shed. The shed got dark even during the day. 

Someone told the grandfather to take Shambhu to a kidney hospital in Ahmedabad. Shambhu's treatment is ongoing at that hospital. It is free but there are expenses of travelling & food. The money was spent in food and there was no saving to build a proper home.

The Grandparents were more than 65 years old. They could not work but yet had to take care of Shambhu. Shambhu is now 14 years old. For another 4 years till he is 18 , the grandparents will have to take care & run around for Shambhu.

The grandparents badly wanted a concrete home. It was their desire for so many years. We decided to construct a house for them. Also helped him (Dada) set up some work which he could do without running around. He said that he can do the work of puncture repairs which his son used to do but he doesn't have money to buy equipment to start the puncture repair shop. We decided to help him for that too. Even Shambhu wants to work in the puncture repair shop. Amazing family. Quite contended.  We also helped in getting the "Antyodaya" card for the family. Now they get more food grains from the ration shop. Our colleague Rajnibhai & Mamlatdar Smt Jaiminiben helped in getting the "Antyodaya" Card without delay. We also decided to give them a food kit so that they do not have to worry about food.  Once Dada's puncture business is set he may not even need a food kit from us.

We do not like to ask the caste of the person whom we help. However after I saw Dada , I somehow felt that I knew him. So when I asked him his caste, he said " Baraiya". It reminded me of Pandit Ravishankar Maharaj. Panditji has worked a lot for Baraiyas. When we were leaving, Dada offered us some dried spices.  We refused, telling him to keep them so that they could be sold for some money. He said that this is for school children but for the last couple of days he could not go to school.

What can we say ? Dada doesn't have much to donate but out of whatever little he had he was magnanimous to give to the society. Salute to him for this wonderful attitude.

Many thanks to Parasbhai. He was Shambhu's favourite teacher. Parasbhai was a perfect example of how an ideal teacher should be. I will write more about him later. I am sure every school in the country would love to have a teacher like him. 

Kheda is very prosperous. Can we not build a home for Shambhu ? Just Rs 1.5 lakhs will build a home for him. Dada's dream will also come true. Lets all together build Shambhu's home.

ખેડા વાસીઓ જોગ.... 

'શંભુ મારી નિશાળમાં ભણે પણ એ મહિનામાં માંડ પાંચ સાત દિવસ હાજર રહી શકે. સતત ગેરહાજર રહેવાનું કારણ જાણવા હું શંભુના ઘરે ગયો ને જે જોયું એનાથી હલી જવાયું..'

પારસભાઈ ખેડાના ગુતાલની માધ્યમીકશાળાના એકદમ સંવેદનશીલ શિક્ષક. એમણે શંભુની  જે સ્થિતિ જોઈ એ અમને વર્ણવી ને અમે પહોંચ્યા શંભુના ઘરે.

શંભુ ત્રણ મહિનાનો હતો ત્યારે એના પિતા ગુજરી ગયા. ગામમાં એ ટાયર પંક્ચરની દુકાન ચલાવતા. એમને કેન્સર થયેલું પણ ખબર છેલ્લી ઘડીએ પડી. શંભુના દાદા કહે, 'કુદરતે એની સારવાર કરાવવાનો પણ વખત ન આપ્યો.'

શંભુની મા જુવાન એ આખી જિંદગી રંડાપો વેઠે એ શંભુના દાદાને ગમે એવું નહોતું. એમણે એને સમજાવીને બીજે વળાવી. પોતે પિતા તરીકે એનું કન્યાદાન કર્યું. વહુએ કહેલું કે, શંભુને એ એક વખત બધુ ગોઠવાઈ જશે પછી લઈ જશે. પણ એવું થયું નહીં. શંભુ દોઢેક વર્ષનો થયો હશે ત્યાં એની મા માંદગીમાં પટકાઈ પછી ઊભી જ ન થઈ.

આમ શંભુ મા-બાપ વગરનો થયો. 

શંભુના પિતા ગુજરી ગયા એ વખતે શંભુ ખુબ બિમાર પડ્યો. દવાખાને લઈ ગયા ત્યારે ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે એના શરીરમાંથી પ્રોટીન ઘટી જાય છે. વળી આ બિમારી લાંબી ચાલવાની. શંભુના દાદા અને દાદી બેય ખેતમજૂરી કરે. હખડડખળ ઘર ચાલે. એમાં શંભુને ગમે ત્યારે હોસ્પીટલ લઈને દોડવાનું થાય એટલે એ પૈસા સાથે જ રાખવા પડે. 

આર્થિક રીતે દાદા સાવ ઘસાઈ ગયા. હાલ એ છાપરાંમાં રહે. ગુતાલના કોઈ પરામાં એમનું આ છાપરુ.. વાહન પણ ત્યાં ન જાય. આ છાપરામાં દાદા થોડી બકરીઓ રાખે તે પણ બાંધેલી. આખુ છાપરુ સખત અંધારીયું. 

દાદા ને કોઈએ અમદાવાદ કીડની હોસ્પીટલમાં શંભુને લઈ જવા કહ્યું ને હાલ શંભુની ત્યાં સારવાર ચાલે. દર મહિને હોસ્પીટલ જવાનું. ક્યારેક દાખલ થવાનું પણ સ્થિતિ ગંભીર થાય તો કરવું પડે. 

સારવાર મફત થાય પણ ત્યાં જવા આવવાના ખર્ચા ને સારવાર પછી શંભુ લેવાઈ જાય તે એને થોડું સરખુ ખવડાવવું પણ પડે ને... આમાં બચત તો શક્ય જ નહોતી. એટલે ઘર પણ ન થયું. 

દાદા દાદીની ઉંમરેય 65 વર્ષથી વધુની થઈ. કામ થાય નહીં છતાં શંભુ માટે દોડવું પડે. 

શંભુ હાલ 14 વર્ષનો થયો.18 પછી એની સારવાર એ રીતે થશે કે પછી હોસ્પીટલના દોડા બંધ અથવા ઓછા થઈ જશે પણ ત્યાં સુધી દાદાના માથે ભાર..

દાદાની ઈચ્છા એક રૃમનું ઘર થાય એવી વર્ષોની. એમની સ્થિતિ જોઈને ઘર બાંધી આપવાનું તો નક્કી કર્યું જ. સાથે દાદા બેઠા બેઠા કાંઈ કામ આવડે તો એ કરવા મદદ કરીએનું પુછ્યું તો એમણે કહ્યું, 'ટાયર પંચરની દુકાન થઈ શકે. મારા દીકરો એ કરતો. એ મને ફાવે. પણ મારી પાસે એ શરૃ કરવા જે સાધનો લાવવા પડે એના પૈસા નથી.'

અમે એમાં પણ મદદ કરીશું.

શંભુને પણ મોટા થઈને ટાયર પંચરની દુકાન પર એના પિતા કામ કરતા એમ કરવું છે. 

ગજબ પરિવાર એકદમ સંતોષી.

આ પરિવારને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ મળે તે માટે અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈએ નડિયાદ મામલતદાર શ્રી જૈમિનીબેનને વાત કરીને એમણે તુરત કાર્ડ કાઢી આપ્યું. હવે વધારે અનાજ મળશે. અમે પોતે પણ દર મહિને રાશનકીટ આપીશું જેથી એમને નિરાંત રહે. આમ તો ધંધો સેટ થઈ જશે પણ કદાચ અમારી કીટની એમને જરૃર નહીં રહે પણ ત્યાં સુધી કરીશું. 

આમ તો ક્યારેય કોઈ વ્યક્તિને એમની જાતિ પુછવી ગમે નહીં પણ કાકાને મળ્યા પછી જાણે ઘણા વખતથી ઓળખતી હોવું એ લાગ્યું. છેવટે પુછ્યું દાદા તમારી જ્ઞાતિ કઈ ને દાદાએ કહ્યું,  'બારૈયા..'

પૂ. રવીશંકર મહારાજ(દાદા) યાદ આવ્યા. દાદાએ બારૈયાઓ માટે ઘણું કામ કરેલું... અમે એની વાત કરી નીકળી રહ્યા હતા ત્યાં દાદાએ અમને રોક્યા ને કહ્યું,

 'કોકડીઓ લેતા જાવ..'

રાયણની સુકવણીને કોકડી કહે, મે કહ્યું, 'રાખો દાદા તમે વેચશો તો પૈસા મળશે..'

એમણે કહ્યું, 'અરે હોય કાંઈ આ તો નેહાળમાં છોકરાંઓ ખાય એ માટે સુકવેલી. મારે નેહાળ આપવા જવાનું છે પણ સમય નતો મળ્યો. આ બે ચાર દાડામાં આપી આઈશ.'

શું કહેવું?

દાદા બહુ મોટા દાન કરી શકે એવી મૂડી એમની પાસે નથી પણ જે છે એમાંથી એ સમાજને આપવાનું કરે. એમની આ ભાવનાને પ્રણામ કરવા ઘટે..

પારસભાઈનો ઘણો આભાર. શંભુના એ પસંદીદા શિક્ષક.. શિક્ષક કેવા હોવા જોઈએ એનું એ ઉત્તમ ઉ.દા.. એમના વિષે વિગતે ફરી ક્યારેક લખીશ. પણ દેશની દરેક શાળા આવા શિક્ષક ઈચ્છે છે એવું ચોક્કસ કહી શકાય. 

ખેડા બહુ પૈસાદાર વર્ગનો પંથક. શું આપણે શંભુનું ઘર બાંધવામાં મદદ ન કરી શકીએ?

દોઢ લાખ જેટલી રકમ ભેગી કરીએ તો શંભુ ઘરવાળો થઈ જાય. ને શંભુના દાદાનું સ્વપ્ન પણ પૂર્ણ થાય.
