These utensils you have given us… we did not receive this many even at the time of my wedding. A saucer and kettle for tea, a rolling pin, a grater, a water pot, plates, bowls, cooking pots — what all should I count? With this, someone could start a completely new household. You have given us so much… May God bless you and everyone who contributed to this work…”

These heartfelt words were spoken by Shardaba, who had come from Achhuva village. Though she is much older in age, she affectionately tells me, “You are my sister.”

The floods of 2025 caused massive destruction in the border regions of Gujarat, especially in many villages of Banaskantha, Patan, and Kutch. During that time, we delivered ration supplies to more than 2,000 families. In some places, ration kits had to be distributed twice. Families taking shelter in schools received great relief from this support.

However, once the floodwaters receded and people reopened their homes, many discovered that the water had broken through the back walls of their houses and swept away their belongings. In other places, water remained stagnant for days, ruining household items. Many families were left without even basic utensils to cook food.

While sharing the pain and hardships they endured during the floods, tears welled up in the eyes of many.

We identified such families and decided to provide them with utensil kits. The distribution took place at the agricultural market in Vav. Seeing the utensils, many families emotionally remarked, “You have filled our mameru (a traditional gift given to a daughter from her maternal family).”

This work became possible with the support of many well-wishers associated with VSSM. We were merely instruments in this effort, but the real joy was in seeing so many loved ones come together in response to a single call for help.

The floods of 2015, 2017, and 2025 have repeatedly caused devastation to these families. Because of this, we have been thinking about relocating them from low-lying areas to safer, elevated land. Respected Bhagwanbhai (Kaka) Panchal discussed this matter with our Honorable Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, and discussions were also held with the Collector of the Vav–Tharad district. A proposal has already been submitted in the first phase to allot plots on higher ground to around 150 families. Details of more families will also be submitted soon.

If the government provides land to these families, then through the support of well-wishers associated with the organization, we will also help in constructing homes for them. We will continue striving to ensure that the plots are allotted as quickly as possible.

Our greatest happiness lies in being able to bring smiles back to the faces of these families.

We placed the utensil kits in front of the families rather than directly handing them over one by one, because we did not want it to feel like charity being imposed upon them.”

આ તમેં જે વાહણો(વાસણો) આલ્યા એવા તો મારા લગન ટાણે પૂરતમોય નતા મલ્યા. ચા પીવા રકેબી, કીટલી, ઓરસિયો, વેલણ, કોક ખોડવું હોય તો ખોડણી, પોણી ભરવા બેડું, થાળી, વાટકો, તપેલી. ચેટલું ગણાવું? આ કોકન્ નવું રહોડુ ચાલુ કરવું હોય તો થઈ જાય. એટલું તમે આલ્યું.. ભગવોન તમારુ ન આ બધુ દેવાવાળા બધોનું ખૂબ હારુ કર..."

આછુવાથી આવેલા શારદાબાએ ભાવથી આ કહ્યું.. શારદાબા ઉંમરમાં બહુ મોટા પણ મને કે, "તુ મારી બેનપણી."

2025માં આવેલા પૂરે ગુજરાતના સરહદી વિસ્તારો એટલે કે બનાસકાંઠા, પાટણ અને કચ્છના ઘણા ગામોમાં ભારે તારાજી સર્જી. એ વખતે અમે 2000 થી વધારે પરિવારોને રાશન પહોંચાડ્યું. કેટલીક જગ્યાએ તો બે વખત રાશન આપ્યું. નિશાળમાં આશરો લઈને બેઠેલા પરિવારોને એનાથી ઘણી રાહત થઈ. 

પણ પૂરના પાણી ઓસર્યા પછી ઘર ખોલ્યા તો ક્યાંક પાણી ઘરની પછીત તોડીને ઘરનો સામાન લઈને વહી ગયેલાનુું આ પરિવારોએ જોયું. તો ક્યાંક દિવસો સુધી પાણી ભરાયેલા રહ્યા એના કારણે સામાન બગડી ગયાનું થયું. ઘણા પાસે રાંધવા સરખા વાસણો પણ ન રહ્યા. 

પૂર વખતે જે પીડા વેઠી એની વાતો કરતા કરતા ઘણાની આંખોના ખૂણા ભીના થયા.     

અમે આવા પરિવારોને શોધી તેમને વાસણ આપવાનું કર્યું. વાસણ આપવાનું કાર્ય વાવના ખેતીવાડી માર્કેટમાં કર્યું. એ વખતે હાજર પરિવારોમાંથી ઘણાએ વાસણ જોઈને, "આ તો તમે મામેરુ ભર્યું" એવું કહ્યું. 

VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા અનેક સ્વજનોની મદદથી આ કાર્ય સંભવ બન્યું. અમે તો આમાં નિમિત્ત હતા. પણ આનંદ એક હાકલ પાડી ને ઘણા પ્રિયજનો સાથે આવ્યા એનો..

2015,2017 અને 2025 એમ સળંગ પૂરના પાણી આ પરિવારોને નુકશાન કરી રહ્યા છે. આવામાં એમને નીચાણવાળી જગ્યામાંથી ઊંચાણવાળી જગ્યામાં લઈ જવાનું કરવાનું વિચાર્યું. આપણા મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલ સાથે આદરણીય ભગવાનભાઈ(કાકા) પંચાલે વાત કરી સાથે વાવ-થરાદ જિલ્લાના કલેક્ટર શ્રી સાથે પણ આ બાબતે વાત થઈ. અંદાજે 150 પરિવારોની ઊંચાણવાળી જગ્યામાં પ્લોટ આપવાની દરખાસ્ત તૈયાર કરીને પ્રથમ તબક્કામાં આપી છે. હજુ પણ બીજા પરિવારોની વિગતો આપીશું.

આ પરિવારોને સરકાર જગ્યા આપશે તો મકાન બાંધવામાં સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત મદદ કરીશું અને પ્લોટ ઝટ મળે એ માટે અમે મથીશું પણ ખરા.

“We knew that you would come to look after us,” said Sharadama from Achhuvagam.

In Achhuva, many families’ homes have been submerged in water. They have taken shelter in the school. The village Sarpanch, Shri Bhala, provided whatever support he could. We distributed ration supplies so that these days of disaster could be made a little easier. Even now, for many days ahead, they will not be able to return to their homes.

All these families are requesting to be resettled in a higher-elevation area. Their situation has worsened in 2015, 2017, and again in 2025. They said, “When the rainfall increases, our lives hang in uncertainty, and our sleep disappears.”

We request the government to resettle them in safer, elevated areas. VSSM has been able to support them through ration assistance, but if land is allocated to them in higher areas, we are also ready to help build homes so that these families can live without fear.

આછુવાગામના શારદામાએ કહ્યું. 

આછુવામાં ઘણા પરિવારોના ઘરો પાણીમાં ગરકાવ. નિશાળમાં એમણે આશરો લીધો. ગામના સરપંચ શ્રી ભલા એમણે શક્ય ટેકો કર્યો. અમે રાશન આપ્યું. જેથી આફતના આ દિવસો ટૂંકા થાય. આમ પણ આગળના ઘણા દિવસો એ પોતાના ઘરમાં જઈ નથી શકવાના. 

આ બધા પરિવારોની માંગ એમને કોઈ ઊંચાણવાળી જગ્યામાં વસાવવામાં આવે તેવી. 2015, 2017 અને 2025 માં એમની દશા ખરાબ થઈ. એમણે કહ્યું વરસાદ વધે ને અમારો જીવ અધ્ધર થાય, ઊંઘ ઊડી જાય.

ઊંચાણવાળા વિસ્તારમાં એમને વસાવવામાં આવે તેવું થાય માટે સરકારને વિનંતી. VSSM રાશન થકી ટેકો કરવામાં નિમિત્ત બન્યું. પણ જો ઊંચાણવાળા વિસ્તારમાં એમને રહેવા જમીન ફાળવવામાં આવે તો ઘર બાંધી આપવાનું પણ અમે કરીશું. જેથી આ બધા પરિવારો ભયમુક્ત થાય.

“What you gave us as groceries was very helpful. We spent many days staying in the school. The Sarpanch did whatever he could to support us there and helped us survive. Today we finally returned home. Our house was filled with thick mud, so we cleaned everything. Our bedding and all household belongings were soaked and ruined. What use are groceries otherwise? Everything we had was damaged. I felt like crying, but even crying felt meaningless. What you have given us now is truly valuable. If there is flour in the house, one can soak it in water and at least eat something—but earlier, we had nothing at all.”

The Bajaniya families living in Vavna Bhakhri shared these words with heavy hearts. The village Sarpanch, Shri Bhala, protected and supported these families during the time of disaster. Through volunteers associated with VSSM, we delivered ration supplies to them so their hardships could be eased.

Many of these families earn their livelihood by selling cutlery, but all their cutlery stock was submerged and damaged by floodwater. We will also help them restart their vending work so they can earn a living again.

Let us all come together to support families affected by this disaster. We are grateful to everyone who helped VSSM in this effort.

 "તમે કરિયોણું આલ્યું તે ખૂબ હારુ કર્યું. આટલા દાડા નિશાળમાં કાઢ્યા. સરપંચ સાહેબે નિશાળમાં અમને એમનાથી થાય તે સગવડ આલી જીવાડ્યા. આજે જ અમે ઘેર આયા. ઘરમો નકરો ગારો ભર્યો તો એ બધુ સાફ કીધું. ગોદડા ન બીજુ બધી ઘરવખરી પલડી જઈ. કરિયોણું તો સેનું રે? એ બધુ પલડી જ્યું. રોધવાનો વિચાર થતો પણ હું રોધવું એ પ્રશ્ન હતો. આ તમે આલ્યું તે હવ ખાસુ. લોટ હોય ન્ ઘરમો તો પોણીમ્ પલાળીન્ ખઈ હકાય.. પણ કશું નતું."

વાવના ભાખરીમાં રહેતા બજાણિયા પરિવારોએ ભારે હૈયે આ વાત કરી. ગામના સરપંચ શ્રી ભલા એમણે આ પરિવારોને આફતની ઘડીમાં સાચવ્યા. VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત અમે એમને રાશન પહોંચાડ્યું.જેથી એમના દિવસો ટૂંકા થાય.

આ પરિવારોમાંથી ઘણા કટલરી વેચવાનું કરતા એમનો કટલરી નો સામાન પણ પાણીમાં પલળી ગયો.  ફરીથી ફેરી કરવાનું કરી શકે એ માટે પણ મદદ કરીશું.. જેથી એ ફરીથી રોજી રળી શકે.

સૌ સાથે મળીને આફતમાં આવેલા પરિવારોને સાચવવાનું કરીએ... VSSM ને આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરનાર સૌ સ્વજનોના આભારી છીએ.

“Will you come to Morikha village? Please come and see our situation once. We are forced to stay in schools. Two to four families are crammed into a single room. It has been a month since water started entering our homes.”

Hearing this, my heart was shaken. When we went to Morikha, a villager named Valabhai said, “Come, see our homes.” We sat in a tractor, but it got stuck on the way. After that, everyone had to walk through the water.

Natubhai from the village was also with us. Natubhai has no children, and we had earlier helped him set up a small shop so he could earn a livelihood. But his shop was filled with water. He said, “My fridge and all my goods…” and as he spoke, his eyes filled with tears.

We told him, “Keep courage. You will stand back on your feet again. We are with you.”

But the entire village is submerged in water. It will take days for the water to drain out of the whole village.

We distributed ration kits. We wished to start a community kitchen, but there were disputes related to caste and community.

Anyway, we will continue to help whenever needed. But this area has been flooded in 2015, 2017, and 2025. In my opinion, there is a need to think seriously about rehabilitation for all of them. It is a fact that natural water channels have been blocked. We hope people can be resettled in higher areas.

We will also help people like Natubhai, whose businesses and livelihoods have been affected, to get back on their feet.

Thanks to the friends associated with VSSM. With their support, we were able to reach the affected families immediately and let them know—through ration support—that we stand by them.

"મોરીખા ચાણ આવશો? અમારી એક ફેરા દશા જુઓ. અમે નિશાળમો પડ્યા સીએ. એક એક રૃમમાં બે ચાર પરિવાર ભેગા સીએ. અમારા ઘરોમાંથી પોણી નેકળતા મહિનો થશે."

સાંભળીને હૈયુ હચમચી જાય. અમે મોરીખા ગયા તો ગામના વાલાભાઈએ કહ્યું, "અમારા ઘર જોવા હેડો." ટ્રેક્ટરમાં બેઠા પણ એ રસ્તામાં અટકી ગયું. પછી તો સૌ પાણીમાં ચાલ્યા.

ગામના નટુભાઈ પણ સાથે. નિસંતાન નટુભાઈને રોજી રળવા માટે અમે દુકાન કરી આપેલી. પણ દુકાનમાં પાણી ભરાયેલું. એમણે કહ્યું, "મારુ ફ્રીજ ન બધો સોમોન...." બોલતા બોલતા આંખો ભરાઈ ગઈ. 

અમે કહ્યું, "હીંમત રાખો, તમે ફેર બેઠા થશો અમે સાથે છીએ."

પણ ગામ આખુ પાણીમાં. આખા ગામમાંથી પાણી નીકળતા દિવસો થશે. 

અમે રાશનકીટ આપી. ઈચ્છા સામુદાયીક રસોડું થાય એવી હતી.પણ નાત જાત ની માથાકૂટો.

ખેર જરૃર પડે આગળ પણ મદદ કરીશું.. પણ 2015,2017 અને 2025માં આ વિસ્તાર પાણીમાં ગરકાવ થયો. મારા ખ્યાલથી આ બધાના પુનઃવસન માટે વિચારવું પડે. પાણીના માર્ગો અવરોધાયા છે એ હકીકત છે. ઊંચાણવાળા વિસ્તારમાં વસવાટ થાય એવું ઈચ્છીએ.

નટુભાઈ જેવા જેમના ધંધા રોજગાર ને અસર પહોંચી છે એમને ફેર બેઠા કરવા પણ મદદ કરીશું.

VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોનો આભાર. એમના ટેકાથી અમે તત્કાલ અસરગ્રસ્ત પરિવારો પાસે પહોંચી શક્યા, રાશન થકી એમની પડખે ઊભા છીએ એવું કહી શક્યા.

VSSM Brings Hope to Alwar’s Nomadic Families...

VSSM has started working with nomadic families in Alwar district, Rajasthan. Today, our families living in ten villages, who have been staying in makeshift shelters far from the villages, applied to the Collector, Dr. Artik Shukla, for land allotment so that they can have their own plots to live on.

Dr. Artik Shukla is a very sensitive officer and has shown willingness to support this initiative. We hope that soon our families will receive basic facilities, including their own plots for permanent housing.

 “How long will this rejection continue?”

“Now we feel, they should just pick us up and throw us into Pakistan. It might be bearable if a foreign country treated us like this, —but it hurts far more when our own people do it,”

With a heavy heart, Fuliben Saraniya of Trajpar, Morbi, said these words. In a way, her anguish is justified.

In 2022, the Honorable Chief Minister personally handed over allotment letters of housing plots to 124 families. But when the plots were assigned, the local people vehemently opposed their settlement, and since then, the issue has been hanging in the air.

At present, these 124 families keep wandering around the Morbi area without a permanent place.

When we met them at Ravapar recently, they expressed their rage, exasperation: “Come to our settlement during the monsoon, and you’ll truly understand our situation. Where to cook in the pouring rain? Snakes constantly seep into this abandoned and desolate open land. At night, we fear even placing our feet out of the cot. Sir, we have suffered too much. If the government cannot allot us the promised land, then allot us the land somewhere else—but please arrange to settle us properly.”

Listening to such stories of extreme hardship, we become dismal with sorrow.

We approached the District Collector and requested that these families be urgently relocated to another suitable site. He assured us that he would proceed quickly to settle this issue.

It is necessary to visit the homes of these marginalized people, more particularly during the monsoon, to truly understand their real hardship. If, after seeing their lives, we still do nothing, we would rightly be called heartless. Any compassionate person would feel this way.

Therefore, we sincerely appeal to the Government and the Honorable Chief Minister to provide these families with a place where they are accepted, where no one rejects them. And we appeal to society to come out of narrow- mindedness. These families are part of us; they are ours. Before driving them out so harshly, let us try placing ourselves in their situation. Placing our feet in their shoes, even for a moment, will make us realize where and how it hurts!!

“હવે તો ઉપાડીને પાકીસ્તાન નાખી આવે તો હારુ. પારકા દેશના આવો વ્યવહાર કરે તો વેઠાશે પણ પોતાનાનો નથી વેઠતો”

મોરબીના ત્રાજપરમાં રહેતા ફુલીબેન સરાણિયાએ ભારે હૈયે આ કહ્યું. એમનું આવું કહેવું એક રીતે વ્યાજબી પણ ખરુ.

આ પરિવારોના વસવાટ સામે વિરોધ કર્યો ને વાત ખોરંભે ચડી.

હાલ આ 124 પરિવારો મોરબી આસપાસમાં બસ રઝડ્યા કરે છે.

હાલ રવાપરમાં રહેતા આ પરિવારોને મળી ત્યારે એમણે રોષ સાથે કહ્યું, “ચોમાસામાં અમારી વસાહતમાં આવો તો

અમારી સ્થિતિનો સાચો ખ્યાલ આવે. વરસતા વરસાદમાં રાંધવું ક્યાં? એરુ તો આ અવાવરુ જગ્યામાં નિત નીકળે.

રાતના ખાટલા નીચે પગ મુકતા બીક લાગે. ભઈ સાબ બહુ વેઠ્યું. સરકારે નક્કી કરેલી જગ્યા ન અપાય તો બીજે ક્યાંક

આપો પણ અમને ઠેકાણે પાડો.”

ભયંકર વિપદાવાળી વાતો સાંભળીને આપણે ગમગીન થઈ જઈએ.

અમે જિલ્લા કલેક્ટર શ્રીને મળ્યા ને અન્ય કોઈ જગ્યાએ આ પરિવારોને ઝટપથી ખસેડવા વિનંતી કરી. એમણે પણ

આ દિશામાં ઝડપથી કામ કરશે એમ જણાવ્યું.

આમ તો વંચિતોના દ્વારે એમની સાચી સ્થિતિનો ચિતાર લેવા ચોમાસામાં ખાસ જવું. એમની જીંદગી જોયા પછી કશું ન

કરીએ તો આપણે ઢીઢ કહેવાઈએ એવું લાગણીસભર વ્યક્તિ હોય તો થશે જ.

ખેર સરકારને અને આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીને પણ આ પરિવારોને ઝડપથી એવી જગ્યા આપવા વિનંતી જ્યાં એમનો

સ્વીકાર થાય. કોઈ એમને કનડે નહીં. ને સમાજને પણ સંકુચિતામાંથી બહાર આવવા વિનંતી. આ બધા આપણા જ

પરિવારો છે. એમને આમ હડહડ કરી કાઢી મુકતા પહેલા એમની જગ્યાએ આપણી જાતને એક વખત ચોક્કસ મુકવાનું

In Morbi, families from the Gadaliya nomadic community, who wandered for generations, now have permanent homes in Charadva.

These homes were built with the support of the government and a planning company. For years, these families lived under makeshift roofs or open skies — for them, a permanent house was just a dream. But through the joint efforts of the government and society, that dream has come true.

Of course, there were challenges. The plots allotted for housing were directly under a 64 kV power line managed by GETCO. This made construction impossible. But with the support of our Honourable Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel and the cooperation of GETCO, the power line was shifted, and the homes were finally built.

In this community, children’s education is not given much importance. Many believe that studying just five or seven books is "enough." We keep reminding them:

"If you don’t educate your children today, how will the future generation’s life improve?"

Also, their traditional occupations are no longer viable, which adds to their struggles. We continue to engage with them, hoping these conversations will help bring a shift in mindset, especially toward education.

Since getting homes, the Gadaliya families are more motivated to earn. Some now rent vehicles and drive for a living. But many more steps are needed to improve their lives further.

Recently, we planned a visit to meet the District Collector of Morbi to discuss the community’s progress and future needs. During our visit to Charadva, we had a detailed conversation with him.

Currently, seven families are still awaiting residential plots. We raised this issue during our meeting with the Collector, who assured us that swift action would be taken. We hope that in the coming days, these families too will have a home of their own.

We are deeply grateful to Honourable CM Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel. Thanks to his compassion, many families from nomadic communities now have permanent homes and a stable address — a new identity.

We also express heartfelt appreciation for our dedicated field workers Kanubhai and Chhayabahen, whose tireless efforts helped settle these families.

Having such committed team members in VSSM is truly a matter of pride.

“મોરબીમાં સદીઓથી રઝળપાટ કરતા પરિવારોને ચરાડવામાં પાક્કા ઘર મળ્યા.”

મોરબીનું ચરાડવા અમે ત્યાં વિચરતી જાતિમાંના ગાડલિયા સમુદાયના ઘરો સરકાર તેમજ નિયોજન કંપનીની મદદથી બાંધ્યા. વર્ષો પતરાની આડાશો તો ક્યાંક ખુલ્લામાં પોતાનો આશરો કરી રહેનાર ગાડલિયા માટે પાક્કુ ઘર તો સપના જેવું પણ એ સરકાર અને સમાજના સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી એ થઈ શક્યું.

જો કે અડચણો ઘણી આવી. જ્યાં પ્લોટ ફળવાયા તે પ્લોટની બરાબર ઉપરથી જેટકોની 64 કેવીની લાઈન પસારથાય. આવામાં ત્યાં ઘર બાંધવા તો અશક્ય. પણ આપણા મુખ્યમંત્રી આદરણીય શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલની મદદથી અને જેટકોની પણ લાગણીથી લાઈન ખસી અને તમામ પરિવારોના ઘરો બંધાયા.

આ વસાહતમાં બાળકોનું ભણાવવાનું ખાસ થાય નહીં. પાંચ, સાત ચોપડી ભણી ગ્યા એટલે ઘણું એવું આ બધા માને ને અમે કહીએ ભણશો નહીં તો આવનારી પેઢીની જીંદગી કેવી રીતે બદલાશે? વળી તેમના પરંપરાગત ધંધા પણ હવે ચાલતા નથી. આ બધા મુદ્દે અમે સતત કહેતા રહીએ જેથી ક્યાંક મનમાં વાત ઉતરે ને બાળકોનું ભણતર આગળ વધે.

ઘરો થયા પછી ગાડલિયા પરિવારોની કમાવવાની હોંશ વધી છે. લોકો ભાડેથી ગાડીઓ ચલાવતા થયા છે. પણ હજુ જીંદગી વધારે બહેતર કેવી રીતે થાય એ બધી વાતો કરવા મોરબી જિલ્લા કલેક્ટર શ્રીને મળવા જવાનું હતું તે ચરાડવા પણ પહોંચ્યા ને એમની સાથે ઘણી વાતો કરી.

7 પરિવારોને હજુ રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળ્યા નથી તે એ અંગે પણ વાત થઈ. આ સાતેયને પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે મોરબી કલેક્ટર શ્રી ને મળ્યા ત્યારે વાત કરી. એમણે આ મુદ્દે ઝડપથી કામગીરી કરવા કહ્યું છે. આવાનારા દિવસોમાં આ પરિવારો પણ ઘરવાળા થાય એવું ઈચ્છીએ.

આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીનો ઘણો આભાર. એમની લાગણીથી વિચરતી જાતિના ઘણા પરિવારો હવે ઘરવાળા થઈ રહ્યા છે, એમને સ્થાયી સરનામા મળી રહ્યા છે.

અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેનની મહેનત પણ આ પરિવારોને થાળે પાડવામાં ઘણી. એમના જેવા સંનીષ્ઠ કાર્યકરો VSSM પાસે હોવાનું ગૌરવ.

"मै कडी धूप में चलता हूं

"I walk in the scorching sun

With this belief;

If I burn, 

my house will be lit and

Food would be cooked on the burning stove."

Proving these poetic lines, I happened to meet some families in the border area of the small desert of Paatdi, Dasaadaa, which is known for its saline soil in Gujarat. 

One notable village is Jaravala, where the Bajaniya families of nomadic tribe reside, located away from the main village. We arrived in the sweltering heat to find that these families live in clay huts on land owned by the forest department. Their livelihood depends on agricultural labor; however, the area's conditions mean they do not have consistent work throughout the year.

In this situation, we applied for the Antyodaya Ration Card to ensure food security for these families. The government is very responsive to this issue. The Honorable Chief Minister and the Welfare Department have been extremely supportive of our mission. With their cooperation, we have successfully provided Antyodaya cards to thousands of families so far.

After advocating for families living in Jarvalaa, they successfully received their Antyodaya cards. We also played a key role in helping these families obtain their Caste Certificates. Currently, we are working to secure a permanent place for them to live. The Honorable Chief Minister is also supportive of this cause, which gives us hope that this task will be completed quickly.

Surendranagar Collector Dr. Rajendra Kumar is a compassionate officer. We met him as well, and he has promised to assist homeless families from nomadic tribes living in Surendranagar district. We are thankful for his support.

Gelabhai expresses his happiness about receiving the ration card. "To be honest, we don't have the skills to handle the paperwork in government offices. But after getting the card, we receive 35 kg of grains, sugar, and sometimes pulses as well. This support means a lot to us."

Supporting families like Gelabhai's would be impossible without a strong team. This mission is made possible thanks to the support of Respected Pratulbhai Shroff and the Dr. K R Shroff Foundation, for which we are very grateful. 

All of this has been achieved through the hard work of our dedicated activists, Harshadbhai and Chhanabhai, from Surendranagar. We are fortunate to have such committed volunteers on our team.

આ પંક્તિઓને સાર્થક કરતા પરિવારોને હમણાં મળવાનું થયું. ગુજરાતનો ખારોપાટ એટલે પાટડી, દસાડાનો નાના રણની કાંધીએ આવેલો વિસ્તાર. 

ત્યાંનું જરવલા ગામ. બજાણિયા પરિવારો ગામથી દૂર રહે. બળબળતી ગરમીમાં અમે ત્યાં પહોંચ્યા. જંગલ  વિભાગની જમીનમાં ગાર માટીમાંથી બનાવેલા ઘરોમાં આ પરિવારો રહે. ખેતમજૂરી પર સૌ નભે. પણ વિસ્તાર  એવો તે બારે મહિના મજૂરી ન મળે. 

આવામાં આ પરિવારોની અન્ન સુરક્ષા જળવાય તે માટે અમે અત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડ માટે અરજી કરી. સરકાર વિચરતી જાતિઓના મુદ્દે ઘણી સંવેદનશીલ આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી તેમજ પૂરવઠા વિભાગ પણ અમને આ કાર્યમાં ખુબ સહયોગ કરે. એમના સહયોગથી અત્યાર સુધી હજારો પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ અમે અપાવી શક્યા છીએ. 

જરવલામાં રહેતા પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ મળે તે કરેલી રજૂઆતને પગલે તેમને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ મળ્યા. જાતિના પ્રમાણપત્ર આ પરિવારોને મળે તે માટે પણ નિમિત્ત બન્યા.

બસ હવે રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા મળે તે માટે મથી રહ્યા છીએ. આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીની લાગણી છે તો એ કાર્ય પણ ઝટ પતશે એમ લાગે છે. 

સુરેન્દ્રનગર કલેક્ટર શ્રી ડો. રાજેન્દ્રકુમાર પણ ઘણા ભલા અધિકારી. એમને પણ મળવાનું થયું. એમણે વિચરતી જાતિના સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લામાં રહેતા ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને મદદ કરવાની ખાતરી આપી છે. એમની આ લાગણી માટે પણ આભારી..

રેશનકાર્ડ મળ્યાનો હરખ કેવો એ અંગે ગેલાભાઈ કહે, “હાચુ કહીએ તો સરકારી કચેરીમાં કાગળિયા કરવાની અમારી આવડત નહીં. પણ કાર્ડ મળ્યા પછી અમને 35 કિ.ગ્રામ અનાજ, ખાંડ અને ક્યારેક દાળ પણ મળે છે. અમને એનાથી મોટો ટેકો..”

ગેલાભાઈ જેવા પરિવારોને ટેકો આપવાનું કાર્ય મજબૂત ટીમ વગર અશક્ય. આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ - ડો. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન આ કાર્યમાં મોટો ટેકો કરે એટલે આ બધુ થાય. પ્રતુલભાઈના અમે ઘણા આભારી.

"We have lived in the village for years, but no one has paid attention to us."

This sentence is often heard from many people, and every time I hear it, it saddens me. The person living in the village is an inseparable part of the village, so why does no one pay attention to their condition?

When working with marginalized or deprived communities, we have to travel from village to village, and in almost all of them, the people living in these settlements express the same complaint.

Tatosangam, a village in Mehsana district, is home to Kangsiya families who have lived there for generations. They earn their livelihood by selling bangles, baskets, and mats. They have built their homes with mud in the place where they live. However, they constantly live in fear of being evicted. Our work is to make sure that these families live without fear. The government also supports us in this effort.

The government has promised them plots of land to give them peace of mind, where they won't have to fear eviction. As part of the process of applying for land, we ensure that these families receive all necessary documentation. The Kangsiya families living in Tatosangam did not have caste certificates.

With the help of VSSM worker Rizwanbhai and the compassion of the Social Welfare Department, these families were provided with caste certificates.

All the families insisted that we visit their settlement. They believed that if the government saw their situation firsthand, they would be able to raise their concerns with more authority. We visited their settlement and distributed the caste certificates.

Now, we hope that all these families will soon have residential plot ownership with an address in their name.

 ‘અમે વર્ષોથી ગામમાં જ રહીએ પણ અમારા પર કોઈએ ધ્યાન ન દીધું’

આ વાક્ય અનેકોના મોંઢે સાંભળવાનું થાય ને જ્યારે પણ એ સાંભળુ ત્યારે મન ખીન્ન થઈ જાય. ગામમાં રહેનાર વ્યક્તિ ગામનું અભીન્ન અંગ ગણાય છતાં એમની સ્થિતિ તરફ કોઈ કેમ નહીં જોતા હોય?

વિચરતી જાતિઓ કે વંચિતો સાથેના કામો અર્થે ગામડે ગામડે અનેક વસાહતમાં ફરવાનું થાય ને જેટલી પણ વસાહતમાં જઈએ તેમાંની મોટાભાગની વસાહતોમાં રહેતા લોકોની આ રાડ.મહેસાણા જિલ્લાનું તાતોસણગામ. કાંગસિયા પરિવારો વર્ષોથી ગામામાં રહે. બંગડી, બોરિયા બકલ વેચવાનો ધંધો કરે. કાચા છાપરા પણ એ જે જગ્યા પર રહે ત્યાં એમણે બાંધ્યા. પણ સતત ભય જગ્યા ખાલી કરાવી દેશોનો લાગ્યા કરે. અમે આવા પરિવારોને નિર્ભય કરવાનું કામ હાથ ધર્યું છે. સરકાર પણ આ કાર્યમાં અમને ખુબ સહયોગ કરે. રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ એ એમને આપેલું નિર્ભયપાણનું વચન. જ્યાંથી કોઈ જગ્યા ખાલી કરાવશેનો ડર ન લાગે. પ્લોટ મેળવવા અરજી કરીએ એ પ્રક્રિયાના ભાગરૃપે જ આ પરિવારોને તમામ પૂરાવા મળે તેવા પ્રયત્નો કરીએ. તાતોસણામાં રહેતા પરિવારો પાસે પણ જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર નહીં.

VSSMના કાર્યકર રીઝવાનભાઈની મદદથી અને સમાજ કલ્યાણ કચેરીની લાગણીથી આ પરિવારોને પ્રમાણપત્ર મળ્યા.

બધા પરિવારોનો આગ્રહ હતો એક વખત વસાહતમાં તમે આવો. સ્થિતિ જોશો તો સરકાર ને અમારી વાત તમે વધારે ભાર પૂર્વક કહી શકશો

એવું એમનું માનવું હતું. તે ખાસ એમની વસાહતમાં ગયા. જાતિપ્રમાણપત્રનું વિતરણ પણ કર્યું. 

બસ હવે આ બધા ઝટ પોતાની માલીકીની સરનામાવાળી જગ્યાવાળા થાય તેમ ઈચ્છીએ.

How much patience can one have?

Over 130 families in Visnagar, Mehsana, showed patience for almost 16 years, with the hope of having their own home. They had already made an application for plot allocation, but there was no success.

With the help of Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Visnagar MLA, and Health Minister Rishikeshbhai, these families will finally get plots. However, soon after the plot allocation, the National Highway Authority stated that the road passes through the land. As a result, the whole process had to be restarted, and after nearly two years, the plot allocation was approved again.

Now, the documents will be ready, and soon the families will be able to build their homes.

But sometimes, seeing time pass by, patience runs out. These families’ financial ability is not enough to build their homes on their own. They need support. A home is often seen as the first step towards progress, which is why we place significant focus on this work. VSSM, with the help of various well-wishers and the government, has built 1,751 homes.

We will soon begin the work of building homes in Visnagar and Surendranagar's Chuda as well.

The families gathered at the plot allocation site and discussed how to build their homes.

While it's easy to say that everything will work out smoothly, building a dream home or bungalow requires significant funds. The families said, "We don't have much capacity, but we will contribute whatever we can."

The government will provide ₹1.20 lakh per family, and our dear Kishorbhai Patel, who resides in America, will contribute between ₹1.50 lakh to ₹1.75 lakh per family in memory of our beloved Kushalbhai. A few families will also contribute. Through collective effort, a thriving settlement will be built.

We hope that VSSM can be an instrument for the construction of many such settlements, bringing well-being to many families.

કોઈ કેટલી ધીરજ રાખી શકે?

મહેસાણાના વીસનગરના 130 થી વધારે પરિવારોએ લગભગ 16 વર્ષ ધીરજ ધરી. પોતાનું ઘર થાય એવી એમની ખેવના. પ્લોટ ફાળવણીની દરખાસ્ત કરી દીધેલી. પણ કાંઈ મેળ ન પડે. 

મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલ અને વીસનગરના ધારાસભ્ય ને આરોગ્ય મંત્રી શ્રી ઋષીકેષભાઈની મદદથી આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફળવાય. પણ પ્લોટ ફળવાયાને તુરત નેશનલ હાઈવે ઓથોરીટી એ કહ્યું કે, જગ્યામાંથી રોડ જાય છે. એ પછી આખુ પ્રકરણ ફરીથી ચાલ્યું ને લગભગ બે વર્ષ પછી પાછો ફેર પ્લોટ નો હુકમ થયો. 

હવે સનદો મળશે ને પછી ઘર બાંધવાનું કરીશું.

પણ ક્યારેક સમય વહેતો જોઈને ધીરજ ખુટી જાય. આ બધાની આર્થિક ક્ષમતા એટલી નહીં કે પોતાની રીતે પોતાનું કરી લે. ક્યાંક એને ટેકાની જરૃર. ઘર પ્રગતિનું પ્રથમ સોપાન લાગે. એટલે જ અમે આ કાર્યમાં ખાસ્સો ભાર આપીએ. 1751 ઘર VSSM એ વિવિધ સ્વજનો અને સરકારની મદદથી બાંધ્યા. 

વિસનગર અને સુરેન્દ્રનગરના ચુડામાં પણ ઘર બાંધવાનં કામ ઝટ શરૃ કરીશું.

પ્લોટ ફળવાયાની જગ્યા પર પરિવારો એકત્રીત થયા અને ઘર કેવા બાંધવા તેની ચર્ચા કરી. 

આમ તો ગોળ નાખીએ એટલી લાપસી ગળી થાય. ઘરનું પણ એવું સ્વપ્ન બંગલા જેવા ઘરનું  તો પૈસા પણ એવા જોઈએ.. અમારા પરિવારોએ કહ્યું, અમારી પાસે ઝાઝી ક્ષમતા નથી પણ થોડા ઘણા તો અમે પણ નાખીશું.

સરકારના 1.20 લાખ મળશે. અમેરીકામાં રહેતા અમારા કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ પ્રિય કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં પ્રત્યેક પરિવારના ઘર માટે લગભગ 1.50 થી 1.75 સુધીની મદદ કરશે. થોડા ઘણા પરિવારો પણ આપશે. આમ સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી વહાલપની વસાહત નિર્માણ પામશે...

બસ આવી અનેક વસાહતોના નિર્માણમાં VSSM પરિવાર નિમિત્ત બને તેવી શુભભાવના...

A Disabled Couple with four children living in an
unimaginable condition

 I had the opportunity to meet a family living in conditions that are almost unimaginable.

In the village of Odhwa, Patan, a disabled couple with four children live in very poor condition. The husband and wife are both in such a condition that they can't take care of themselves, let alone their children.

The teachers at the village’s primary school, especially the headmaster, are very compassionate. Knowing the family’s situation, they make sure that the family’s daughter, who attends the school, is provided with lunch. They also send large containers filled with food for the entire family to eat.

Not everyone understands the condition of this family. However, the government’s health team visits the family frequently for checkups. The Sarpanch (village head) has also personally visited them. When he asked what they had cooked, the eldest daughter, who is in the 8th grade, replied, "Vegetables and roti (flatbread)." But there was no sign of cooking in the house. Upon closer inspection, it was found that they had only eaten flour mixed with water.

The Sarpanch immediately arranged for groceries, but the situation was heartbreaking.

They have a small shanty, but during the monsoon, water fills the entire hut. The floor is raw, and the walls have holes. The family requested that the house be built in a higher area, so the water doesn’t enter. They called us with this request.

They said, "We don't need all the help. The village has its responsibility, and they will do their part, but if you take the lead, this family can be saved."

When we went to Patan, we visited Odhwa and met the family. The husband and wife couldn't speak, but the eldest daughter shared a lot.

With the help of the respected Kishor Uncle, we will build a house for them. Kishorbhai Patel, in memory of the dear Kushbhai, helps build homes for families like these, and we will build a house for this family too.

We will also provide ration supplies so that they can eat every month. As for cooking, their mother has now come to stay with them and will take care of it.

We also brought the children to our hostel. Some villagers said that while it’s good they are learning, staying with us would at least ensure they have enough to eat.

Seeing families living in such unimaginable conditions is heart-wrenching. We hope that by being instruments for good, we can bring about lasting change for many families like this one.

માન્યામાં ન આવે એવી સ્થિતિમાં જીવતા પરિવારને મળવાનું થયું. 

પાટણનું ઓઢવા ને એની સીમમાં દિવ્યાંગ પતિ પત્ની ચાર સંતાનો સાથે રહે. પતિ પત્નીને પોતાનું પણ ભાન નહીં. આવામાં એ બાળકોને તો શું સાચવે?

ગામની પ્રાથમિકશાળાના શિક્ષકો, આચાર્ય ખુબ લાગણીવાળા. આ પરિવારની સ્થિતિ જાણે એટલે મધ્યાહન ભોજન આ પરિવારની દીકરી જે શાળામાં ભણે એને જમાડે ને મોટી બરણી ભરીને ઘરે લઈ જવા પણ આપે.. જેથી આખો પરિવાર ખાઈ શકે.

સીમમાં રહેતા આ પરિવારની સ્થિતિનો ખ્યાલ બધાને નહીં. પણ સરકારની આરોગ્ય ટીમ બેનની તપાસ માટે અવાર નવાર જાય. સરપંચશ્રી ભલા એમણે પણ આ પરિવારની મુલાકાત લીધી. ખાવા શું રાંધ્યું એ સવાલ જ્યારે એમણે પુછ્યો તો મોટી દીકરી જે ધો.8માં ભણે એણે કહ્યું, શાક, રોટલા. પણ ઘરમાં ક્યાંય રાંધ્યાના એંધાણ નહોતા. જાતે તપાસ કરી તો ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે લોટ પલાળીને પીધો છે..

એ પછી એમણે તુરત કરિયાણું મોકલ્યું. પણ સ્થિતિ જોઈને જીવ બળ્યો. 

ઓરડી બાંધેલી પણ ચોમાસામાં આખી ઓરડીમાં પાણી ભરાય. તળિયું કાચુ, પતરામાં બાકોરા. ઊંચાણવાળા  વિસ્તારમાં ઘર બંધાય તો સારુ એવી ભાવના સાથે એમણે અમને ફોન કર્યો.

એમણે કહ્યું, અમને બધી મદદ નથી જોઈતી.ગામની પણ ફરજ છે એ પણ કરશે પણ તમે આગેવાની લેશો તો આ પરિવાર સચવાઈ જશે. 

પાટણ જવાનું થયું એ વેળા ઓઢવા ગયા. પરિવારને મળ્યા. પતિ પત્ની તો શું વાત કરે. પણ મોટી દીકરીએ ઘણું કહ્યું. 

ઘર બાંધવાનું આદરણીય કિશોરઅંકલની મદદથી કરીશું. પ્રિય કુશભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ આવા પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવામાં મદદ કરે. તો આ પરિવારનું ઘર પણ બાંધીશું.

રાશનની મદદ પણ કરીશું જેથી દર મહિને એ ખાઈ શકે. રસોઈ બનાવવાનો સવાલ હતો પણ બહેનના મા હવે એમની સાથે રહેવા આવ્યા છે તો એ રાંધી દેશે..

ને બાળકોને અમે અમારી હોસ્ટેલમાં લઈ આવ્યા. ગામના કેટલાક લોકોએ કહ્યું, ભણે તો સારુ પણ તમારા ત્યાં રહેશે તો પેટ ભરીને ખાવા મળશે તોય ઘણું..

અક્લપનીય સ્થિતિમાં જીવતા આવા પરિવારોને જોઈને જીવ બળે. બસ સૌના શુભમાં નિમિત્ત બની શકીએ તો ઘણું એવું સતત થાય....

"The canal was drying up, and the situation was worsening. Was there no way to help? No one was doing anything. But look, beside the canal, they dug deep with a JCB machine. The workers there said, 'The canal will be emptied, it will be fixed soon.' The sand from around Himatnagar was being removed and shifted elsewhere. But now, there’s no sand left, and we don’t have the money to rent equipment," said the Saraniya family residing in Himmatnagar with heavy hearts.

To help these families find land to settle on, our worker, Tohidbhai, has already taken action. The Collector has identified the location and prepared the map for the settlement. In a way, all that’s left is the order for the allocation of plots. However, time is passing, and the question these families have is where they will go once they vacate their homes. Therefore, we hope that this process will be completed quickly.

Sometimes, it happens that those in positions of power can bring happiness to many people. In the world, many people don’t even realize the purpose of their lives, while nature gives others the opportunity to live with a sense of purpose. If we understand this purpose, we can become instruments for the welfare of many lives. I travel across the country and meet the underprivileged; seeing their situation, it becomes clear that if everyone dedicates themselves, a lot can be achieved.

We hope that the families in Himmatnagar will also be treated with compassion, and their plots will be allocated soon.

 "કેનાલ મોથે સાપરા નોખી પડ્યા'તા. હતુ ક ઓય કણ તો કુન નડવાના? કોઈ ખાલી નઈ કરાવ. પણ જુઓ ન આ કેનાલની બાજુમો જેસીબીથી કોક ઊંડુ કર તે અમન કેનાલ વાળા આઈન ખાલી કરવાનું કઈ જ્યાં. આખા હિંમતનગરમાં પહેલા જમી રેતી તે ઓમથી તેમ ઘૈઈક રખડ્યા. પણ હવ જમી નહીં અન ભાડુ ભરવાના અમારી કને પૈસા નઈ"

હિંમતનગરમાં રહેતા સરાણિયા પરિવારોએ ભારે હૈયે આ કહ્યું. 

આ પરિવારોને રહેવા જમીન મળે તે માટે અમારા કાર્યકર તોહીદભાઈએ કાર્યવાહી કરી દીધી છે. અલબત કલેક્ટર શ્રીએ જગ્યા નક્કી કરી તેના નકશા તૈયાર કરી દીધા છે. એક રીતે કહુ તો પ્લોટ ફાળવણીનો બસ હુકમ થાય એની વાટ છે. પણ સમય જઈ રહ્યો ને છાપરા ખાલી કરીને ક્યાં જશુનો આ પરિવારોને પ્રશ્ન છે એટલે ઉતાવળે આ કામ થાય એવું ઈચ્છીએ. 

ક્યારેક થાય અધિકારગણ પાસે સત્તા છે. એ ધારે તો અનેક લોકોને સુખ પહોંચાડી શકે. દુનિયામાં અનેક લોકોને પોતાના જીવનનો હેતુ ખ્યાલ નથી હોતો જ્યારે અનેક લોકોને હેતુપૂર્વકનુ જીવન જીવવાની તમામ તક કુદરતે આપે છે. આ હેતુ સમજી જઈએ તો અનેક જીવોના કલ્યાણ માં આપણે નિમિત્ત બની શકીએ. દેશભરમાં ફરી છું વંચિતોને મળી છું એમની સ્થિતિ જોઈને જ થાય કે સૌ પોતાની નિષ્ઠા અર્પે તોય ઘણું થઈ જાય...

આશા રાખીએ હિંમતનગરમાં રહેતા અમારા પરિવારો પ્રત્યે પણ કરુણાભાવથી જોવાશે ને સત્વરે પ્લોટ ફળવાશે...

Nomadic communities welcomes Mittal Patel 

"Fear is not meant to be feared,

Fearlessness is the goal,

Those who are afraid, do not frighten them,

Such is the essence of our culture."

The words of poet Dula Bhaya Kaghani are very insightful. Many villages oppose the settlement of nomadic communities. In our village, they say, "You cannot settle here." It is painful to hear such things.

However, in between all this, there are some villages that accept these families with respect. Looking at the leaders of such villages gives us encouragement to keep working in this direction.

In the village of Devpura, Vijapur, in Mehsana district, Saraniya families have been living there for years. We have been able to gather identification proof. But now, the desire is to secure a permanent place for their residence. Currently, there is no electricity in the settlement, and snakes sometimes appear where they live. When we recently passed through Devpura, we met them. They requested us to make more efforts so that they could quickly get electricity and a plot for permanent residence.

Sometimes, it feels like these families have so much hope in us. We tell them that we will present their case to the government and will work sincerely. While we hope that the government will listen to these families’ concerns and quickly provide plots, we remain hopeful.

May God always be the cause of everyone’s well-being, and may good things happen for all.

કવિ દુલા ભાયા કાગની આ વાત કેવી સૂચક. વિચરતી જાતિઓના વસવાટ સામે ઘણા ગામો વિરોધ કરે. અમારા ગામમાં તમારો વસવાટ નહીં આવું કહે.. આ બધુ સાંભળીએ ત્યારે ઘણી પીડા થાય.

જો કે આ બધાની વચમાં કેટલાક ગામો આ પરિવારોને માનભેર અપનાવે પણ ખરા.. આવા ગામના આગેવાનોને જોઈને અમને આવા કાર્યોમાં મથતા રહેવાની હામ મળે..

મહેસાણાના વિજાપુરનું દેવપુરાગામ. સરાણિયા પરિવારો ત્યાં વર્ષોથી રહે. ઓળખાણ ના પુરાવા તો અમે કઢાવ્યા. પણ હવે ઈચ્છા કાયમી રહેણાંકની જગ્યા મળે તેની. હાલ વસાહતમાં વીજળી નથી. જ્યાં રહે ત્યાં સાપ પણ નીકળે. હમણાં દેવપુરા પાસેથી નીકળ્યા ત્યારે એમને મળ્યા. સૌએ વીજળી અને પ્લોટ ઝટ મળે એ માટે વધુ કોશિશ કરવા કહ્યું.

ક્યારેક થાય આ બધા પરિવારોને અમારા પર કેટલી આશા છે. અમે કહીએ અમે સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરીશું ને પુરા મનથી મથીશું. જો કે સરકાર આ પરિવારોની રાવ સાંભળશે ને ઝટ પ્લોટ આપશે એવી આશા પણ છે..

બસ સૌના શુભમાં ઈશ્વર હંમેશા નિમિત્ત બનાવે તેવી શુભભાવના...
