“Ben, when someone dies in the village it becomes difficult for all to enter the cemetery. The mad tree is a huge menace!” Sarpanch had shared.

The Sarpanch wanted to plant 10,000 trees in the village and had mentioned to remain by our side even if he did not hold the position of village head.

The community and Panchayat cleaned the cemetery grounds and VSSM committed to plant trees that were native to the region and helped bring rains. The earth of Banaskantha is filled with the mad tree, it helped solve the issue of fodder and fuel but never allowed native trees to flourish in the surrounding. If water facility is made available we plan to plant and raise tall native trees.

We have launched this massive campaign and aim to plant and raise 1 lac trees this year.

May you too choose to invoke Tree God in your village. It definitely will herald good times….

બનાસકાંઠાનું બુકોલીગામ

વીડિયોમાં દેખાય એ સ્મશાન ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલું. સરપંચે કહ્યું, બેન ગામમાં કોઈ ગુજરી જાય તો બધા ડાઘુઓ એક સાથે સ્મશાનમાં જઈ ન શકે એવો ગાંડો બાવળ આ સ્મશાનમાં. 

સરપંચની ભાવના ગામમાં દસ હજાર વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાની. એમણે કહ્યું હું સરપંચ ન હોવું તો પણ આ લક્ષાંકને પૂર્ણ કરવા હું તમારી સાથે... 

આવું સ્મશાન પંચાયત અને ગામે સાથે મળીને સાફ કર્યું ને એમાં વરસાદ લાવવા જવાબદાર વૃક્ષો vssm વાવશે અને ઉછેરશે..

બનાસકાંઠામાં કેટલાય એકર જમીન ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલી પડી છે. પાણી નહોતા ત્યારે ગાંડો બાવળ ઠીક પણ પાણીની સગવડ હોય ત્યાં એની જગ્યાએ ઊંચાઈવાળા વૃક્ષો વાવીએ તો એ વરસાદ લાવવામાં પણ ઉપયોગી થશે... 

અમે અભીયાન ઉપાડ્યું છે. આ વર્ષે 1 લાખથી વધુ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા છે.. 

તમે પણ તમારા ગામમાં વૃક્ષદેવની સ્થાપના કરો... એ ગામની સુખાકારી વધારશે એ નક્કી...

Recently, at a specially organised event we planted trees in Bharkawada village. A leading daily covered the event in a very meaningful way and rightfully named it ‘Shwasropan’- sowing breathes. Trees are the most giving souls, their generosity is so visible in our daily existence.

Benap is a remote village in the interior of Banaskantha. The landscape is filled with gando baval. VSSM in partnership of the community has decided to plant trees over 10 acres of village wasteland. But the land had to be cleared first, and clearing these trees is an expensive affair. We spoke to District Collector Shri Anandbhai, who agreed to extend support. Another compassionate and enthusiastic officer is Suigaum TDO Kajalben. Anandbhai and Kajalben sanctioned clearing this wasteland of wild babool trees under the MNREGA program. VSSM with support from its dear Chandrakant Uncle and Indira Auntie will build a fence, install drip irrigation pipelines and water tank. The village Panchayat will also share the cost of fencing.

Benap sarpanch Paragbhai is a noble soul, someone who works for the prosperity of the village and its inhabitants.

Once the wilderness is cleared we plan to plant native trees that will help bring rain to the region.

This year many villages have agreed for tree plantation program. Hopefully, entire Banaskantha will show such commitment.

ખરે જ વૃક્ષો આપણને કેટલું બધુ આપે વળી પાછું આપે એ બધુયે દેખાય પણ ખરુ....

#બનાસકાંઠાનું #બેણપ અંતરિયાળ ગામ. બાવળોનું પ્રમાણ પણ ઘણું. અહીંયા લગભગ 10 એકર જમીનમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું VSSMએ ગામ સાથે રહીને નક્કી કર્યું.

પણ જમીન આખી બાવળથી ભરેલી. સફાઈ કામ પુષ્કળ કરવું પડે ને એ માટે ખર્ચ ઘણો થાય. કલેક્ટર શ્રી આનંદભાઈ સાથે આ બાબતે વાત થઈ ને એમણે કહ્યું, અમે સાથે રહીશું. તાલુકા વિકાસ અધિકારી તરીકે સૂઈગામમાં કાજલબેન. એમનો ઉત્સાહ તો આવા કાર્યોમાં જબરજસ્ત.. આમ આનંદભાઈ અને કાજલબેન બેઉની સંવેદનાના લીધે મનરેગા યોજનામાં જમીનની સફાઈ અને ખાડા કરાવવાનું કામ મંજૂર થયું. 

જમીન ફરતે તારની વાડ, પાણીની ટાંકી, ડ્રીપની ગોઠવણ કરવાનું અમે અમારા પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા (અંકલ) ને ઈન્દીરા આંટીની મદદથી કરીશું. વાડ કરવામાં પંચાયત પણ અડધી મદદ કરશે..

 A pledge to make Banaskantha green and water sufficient…

A couple of years ago, we launched a campaign to make Banaskantha green and water sufficient. This year we aim to plant and raise 1.5 lac trees from which 1.25 are already planted.

While selecting the villages for our tree plantation campaign, the primary consideration is the community’s outlook towards trees. During July and August this year, we plan to accomplish the plantation of ‘Bal-Taru’ in 35 villages. The auspicious beginnings of this happened from Vadgaum’s Bharkawada village. 2500 saplings were planted by the community and VSSM team around the village cemetery. The support from Rosy Blue (India) will help us raise these into trees. 

 The saplings were provided by the Forest Department free of cost. VSSM plans to support Virksha Mitra for three years. It would be the responsibility of the Vriksha Mitra and the community to ensure that the saplings are nurtured and raised well, VSSM will support the remuneration to Vriksha Mitra.

During one of the plenary meetings, we had proposed a plantation of trees from one end to another. “Can we plant 500 more trees?” we had inquired. The youth had agreed to plan for the same. The trees on both the side of the lane required tree-guards, very soon donors began to pitch in and we had sponsors for 250 tree guards. VSSM will support if needed as we intend to develop the village as a model for others to draw inspiration from.

There was also a discussion on recharging the well, VSSM supported 11 farmers for the same. It is a delight to see the community gearing up for environment and water conservation.

The 2500 Bal-Taru needed to be honoured and worshipped. Couples from the village volunteered and came forward to worship and plant these trees at the village cemetery.

Since there is a lot of mutual respect and a sense of brotherhood in the village, couples from all the communities including Dalits performed pooja and planted the saplings. 

Once the plantation event got over, the young team of volunteers began bringing saplings and tree-guards for the plantation of boulevard trees. It was such a heart-warming scene… to watch them work so responsibly.

Banaskantha is a rain-starved region, if we turn the land green the rain gods would send their blessings. If the communities who call this region their home begin to take proactive measures the region will become green and productive. There would be no reason for the rains to keep away from the region….

હરીયાળુ બનાસકાંઠા પ્રકલ્પ....

વૃક્ષ ઉછેર અભીયાન અમે બનાસકાંઠામાં ઉપાડ્યું... આ વર્ષે દોઢ લાખ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનો લક્ષાંક અમે રાખ્યો જેમાંથી 1.25 ઉપર તો પહોંચી ગયા...

વૃક્ષઉછેર માટે ગામોની પસંદગી ગામોની વૃક્ષો માટે મમતા કેટલી એને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને કરીએ..જુલાઈ ઓગષ્ટ - 2021માં કુલ 35 ગામોમાં બાલતરુની વાવણી ને એના ઉછેરનું કાર્ય કરવાનું.. જેનો શુભારંભ વડગામના ભરકાવાડાગામથી કર્યો. ભરકાવાડાના સ્મશાનમાં 2500 વૃક્ષ ગ્રામજનો અને VSSMની ભાગીદારીથી ઉછરશે. 

જંગલ વિભાગે પણ આ માટે વૃક્ષો વિનામુલ્યે આપ્યા. અમે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા પગારદાર માણસ તેમજ વૃક્ષો માટે જરૃરી સગવડ- ખર્ચ કરવાનું ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી કરીશું.

વૃક્ષ ઉછેર સંદર્ભે ગામલોકો સાથે ત્રણેકવાર બેઠક થઈ. ગામનો ઉત્સાહ જોઈને ગામની હદ શરૃ થાય ત્યાંથી લઈને હદ પૂર્ણ થાય ત્યાં સુધી આપણે બીજા 500 વૃક્ષો ન વાવી શકીએ? એવું પુછેલું.જવાબમાં સૌએ આયોજન કરીએ બેન એવું કહેલું. પણ રસ્તામાં વવાતા વૃક્ષોના સંરક્ષણ માટે પાંજરુ જોઈને તે એક પછી એક દાતા ઊભા થવા માંડ્યા. જોત જોતામાં લગભગ 250 ઉપર પાંજરાના દાતા મળી ગયા. ખૂટતાં VSSM આપશે પણ આ કાર્ય સફળતા પૂર્વક કરવું છે જેથી બીજા ગામના લોકોને પણ પ્રેરણા મળે.. 

આમાં વચમાં વળી કૂવા રીચાર્જની વાત આવી એમાં પણ ગામના 11 ખેડૂતોને મદદ કરવાનું અમે કર્યું. આમ પ્રકૃતિ- પર્યાવરણના કાર્યો માટે લોકો સજ્જ થયા..

સ્મશાનમાં 2500 બાલતરુની પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરવાની હતી. એનું પૂજન પણ થવું જોઈએ.. ગામના દંપતી સ્વંમ ભૂ પૂજન માટે આવ્યા ને સંપૂર્ણ ભાવ સાથે ગામના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વવાયા.

ગામનો સંપ ખુબ સરસ નાતજાતના ભેદ વગર વૃક્ષ પૂજનમાં વાલ્મીકી સમાજથી લઈને ગામના સૌ કોઈ જોડાયા અને પૂર્ણ ભાવથી પૂજન કર્યું.. 

કાર્યક્રમ પત્યા પછી ગામના યુવાનોની ટીમ પાછી રસ્તાની બે બાજુ વૃક્ષો વાવવા ને પાંજરા લગાવવામાં લાગી.. 

કેવું રૃડુ વાતાવરણ હતું.

બનાસકાંઠામાં વરસાદ ઓછો પડે.. વૃક્ષો વરસાદ લાવવા માટે જવાબદાર એટલે વૃક્ષ ઉછેરનું અભીયાન અમે આરંભ્યું. લોકો સ્વંયભૂ આ કાર્ય કરતા થઈ જાય તો આપણી ધરતીને હરિયાળી થતી કોઈ રોકી નહીં શકે.. દરેક ગામ વૃક્ષ ઉછેર માટે કટીબદ્ધ થાય તો આખો પ્રદેશ લીલોછમ થઈ જાય ને પછી વરસાદને તો આવવું જ પડે....

 “Where are you headed, Kaka?” someone asked Nathakaka while he passed through the village.

“Mahodiye!”

“to book your place?”

“No, to dig pits.”

The pits were for planting trees.

VSSM has carried out a tree plantation drive in Banaskantha’s Juna Deesa. Nathakaka, who loves nurturing the trees has been a great help in raising these trees. Once Kaka had shared the above incident which,  had cracked me into laughter. I so hoped for others also to follow suit.

We have taken up the task of planting trees in Banaskantha. This year the plan is to plant 1.5 lacs trees. We are in the process of finalising the villages where the plantation will be undertaken. As a part of the process, I was in Juna Deesa recently.

We have plans to plant and raise 2500 to 3000 trees with support from Rosy Blue (India) Pvt. Ltd. on the grounds of Ramapir Bhawan temple.

VSSM’s strategy to appoint a ‘vruksh mitr’ to care and nurture the planted trees has assured trees are well-looked after. The village youth too is enthused to do their best for the upcoming drive.

Banaskantha’s Forest Department has also assured all the support they can.

We have pledged to make Banaskantha green and bring rains to the region, to make it water sufficient and  make it prosperous once again…

બનાસકાંઠાના જૂના ડીસામાં અમે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરીયે. વૃક્ષપ્રેમી નાથાકાકા એની દેખરેખમાં ઘણી મદદ કરે.  તે કાકાએ એક વખત આ બીના કહેલી.. સાંભળીને ઘણું હસવું આવ્યું. પછી થયું કાશ આવા ખાડા સૌ કરતા થઈ જાય તો...

છેલ્લા બે વર્ષથી બનાસકાંઠામાં વૃક્ષ ઉછેરનું અભીયાન હાથ ધર્યું છે. આ વર્ષે દોઢ લાખ વૃક્ષ ઉછેરવાનો સંકલ્પ છે. ગામો નક્કી થઈ રહ્યા છે.. આ પ્રક્રિયાના ભાગરૃપે જૂના ડીસા જવાનું થયું. 

રામપીર ભગવાનના મંદિરમાં રોઝી બ્લુ (ઈન્ડિયા) પ્રા.લી.ની મદદથી  2500 થી 3000 વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું ને વાવ્યા પછી ઉછેરવાનું આયોજન છે. 

VSSMની આગવી પદ્ધતિ વૃક્ષ ઉછેર માટે પગારદાર વૃક્ષમિત્ર રાખવાની. ગામના યુવાનોની ટીમ પણ બહુ ઉત્સાહી.

જંગલવિભાગ બનાસકાંઠાએ પણ મદદ કરવાની ખાત્રી આપી.હરિયાળુ બનાસકાંઠાનો પ્રકલ્પ છે.. મૂળ વરસાદ આ વિસ્તારમાં ઓછો પડે વૃક્ષો વાવીશું તો વરસાદ થશે ને સુખાકારી વધશે..

The awareness of VSSM’s tree plantation campaign is rising and we are invited to carry plantation drives...

 “Where is the meeting?”

“At the crematorium!”

So all of us would gather at the decided venue. Crematoriums are devoid of trees, and if there is any seating under their shade is not an option because the place is hardly clean. Ultimately, after a brief hesitation, all of us  seated on the platform where the pyre is lit.

“Why hesitate when one day all of us will come and rest here!” would be unanimous clamour.

The meeting begins to discuss turning crematoriums into green sanctuaries. 

There is a Mali community crematorium in Banaskantha’s Vakha, the expanse is huge but the grounds have no trees or greenery around.

The awareness of VSSM’s tree plantation campaign is rising and we are invited to carry plantation drives. The leaders of the Mali community of Vakha are informed and aware, they took up the responsibility of fencing the grounds and arranging for water and cleaning of the grounds.

The plantation drive will be carried in July, following which we will appoint a Vruksh Mitra to nurture and raise the trees.

We are hoping for such awareness to spread across Banaskantha to make it green again.

One should always be hopeful, right?

'બેઠક ક્યાં છે?'

ને જવાબ મળે સ્મશાનમાં.

ને અમે પહોંચીએ સ્મશાનમાં. ઝાડ તો હોય નહીં તે એના છાંયે બેસાય. ને હોય તોય નીચે બેસવા લાયક સફાઈ ન હોય. આખરે બેસવું ક્યાં એ વાત પર સૌ આવે ને બેઠક ગોઠવાય અગ્નીદાહ આપવાની છાપરીમાં.. 

પ્રથમ થોડો ખચકાટ સૌને થાય પણ પછી એક સાથે બધા જ કહે, આજ તો આપણું અંતિમ વિરામ સ્થાન ત્યાં બેસવામાં સંકોચ શાને? ને સૌ ગોઠવાઈ જઈએ..ને પછી ચર્ચા શરૃ થાય સ્મશાનને નંદનવન બનાવવાની..

બનાસકાંઠાના વખામાં માળી સમાજનું વિશાળ સ્મશાન. પણ એમાં ઝાડી ઝાંખરા સિવાય ભાગ્યે જ વૃક્ષો જડે.

અમે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું અભીયાન હાથ ધર્યું છે. લોકોને હવે એનો ખ્યાલ આવી રહ્યો છે. એટલે ઘણા ગામો પોતાના ગામમાં વૃક્ષારોપણ કરવા અમને નિમંત્રણ આપે ને અમે ત્યાં જઈએ.

વખાના માળી સમાજના આગેવાનો ઘણા જાગૃત. સ્મશાન ફરતે વાડ કરવાનું, સફાઈ ને પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા કરવાનું એમણે માથે લીધુ છે. 

જુલાઈમાં અમે વખામાં વૃક્ષો વાવીશું ને પછી એક વૃક્ષમિત્ર એ વૃક્ષોના ઉછેર માટે રાખીશું જે વૃક્ષોનું જતન કરશે. 

દરેક ગામ આ રીતે જાગે તો આખો બનાસકાંઠો હરિયાળો થઈ જાય. 

ખેર સૌ જાગે તેવી અભીલાષા...

In 2019, as a part of our efforts to make Banaskantha green again, we undertook tree plantation drive in villages that agreed to the preconditions for our plantation initiative.

Recently, I had to the opportunity to visit 3 such villages; Govali, Diyodar and Makhanu. We believe,  equally important to planting the trees is to ensure that the planted saplings are nurtured and looked after. Hence, we had a ‘Vruksh-Mitr’ appointed in the villages where the tree plantation drive was executed. These appointees were responsible to look after the planted trees, they were paid a remuneration that was shared equally by VSSM and community.

Today, as I visited tree-plantation site, it was evident that  ‘Vruksh-Mitr’ Narsinhbhai, Dharmabhai and Bachubhai had worked hard. Govali and Makhanu  villages have raised more than 850 trees each. While in Diyodar, 400 trees have been raised at the crematorium for Raval community.

 VSSM Naran has worked very hard to ensure this initiative is implemented well. Golvi and Makhanu leadership showed tremendous cooperation. It is because of their efforts that seem to have had this impact. Whereas,  youth from  Raval community worked had to ensure that trees are planted and raised well at the crematorium site.

As monsoon approaches, we hope more villages from Banaskantha decide to join the tree plantation drive this year, we hope the number of villages committing to make their villages free from the rise and spread of prosopis juliflora/gando baval grows rapidly…..

જે ગામોએ શરતો માન્ય રાખી એવાં ગામોમાંના ગોલવી, દિયોદર અને મખાણુ ગામની મુલાકાત લીધી.વૃક્ષારોપણમાં સૌથી અગત્યનું છે વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા પછી તેની માવજત નું કામ. આ માટે અમે ગામની ભાગીદારીથી વૃક્ષમિત્રોની પસંદગી કરી. આ વૃક્ષમિત્ર ઝાડ ની માવજત નું કામ કરે. જેમને મહેનતાણામાં અડધું મહેનતાણું ગામલોકો આપે અને અડધું VSSM માંથી મળે.

આજે મુલાકાત લીધેલા આ ત્રણેય ગામોમાં જ્યાં વૃક્ષારોપણ કર્યું છે તે સાઇટ પરના ત્રણેય વૃક્ષ મિત્રો નરસિંહભાઈ, ધરમાભાઈ અને બચુભાઈએ ખુબ મહેનત કરી છે.

ગોલવી અને મખાણુમાં તો સાડા આઠસો, આઠસો જેટલા વૃક્ષ ઉછેર્યા છે. જ્યારે દિયોદરમાં રાવળ સમાજની સ્મશાનભૂમિમાં ચારસો જેટલા વૃક્ષ થયા છે.

કાર્યકર નારણની આ બાબતે ઘણી મહેનત રહી.. તો ગોલવી અને મખાનું સરપંચે પણ ખૂબ સહયોગ કર્યો. અલબત્ત એમની ભાવના હતી માટે જ આ કામો થયા. તો રાવળ સમાજની સ્મશાન ભૂમિ માટે રાવળ યુવાનોની મહેનતને સલામ..

આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરનાર અમોલીબેન, જહાંગીર ભાઈ અને અન્ય સૌને પ્રણામ..

આવનારા ચોમાસામાં બનાસકાંઠાના વધારે ગામો આ કાર્યક્રમમાં જોડાયા અને પોતાના ગામની સાથે બનાસકાંઠાને હરિયાળો કરવાનું સ્વપ્ન જુએ એમ ઈચ્છિયે.

સૌથી સુંદર કામ જે ગામોમાં થશે એમને ઈનામ આપવાનું પણ કરીશું.

ડિસેમ્બર 2019 થી બનાસકાંઠામાં પાણી નું કામ પણ પાછું ચાલુ કરીશું. પાણી નું કામ શરૂ કરતા પહેલા રસ ધરાવતા ગામના સરપંચ અને આગેવાનોની એક સંયુક્ત બેઠક કરવાનું આયોજન કરીએ છીએ.

જેમને પણ આ બાબતે રસ હોય એ વ્યક્તિઓ અહીંયા પોતાનું નામ નોંધાવે અથવા અમારા કાર્યકર નારાણ રાવળ -૯૦૯૯૯૩૬૦૩૫ પા સંપર્ક કરે. જેથી જે તે ગામના વિકાસમાં અમે કેવી રીતે સહભાગી થઇ શકીએ તે અંગે મસલત થઈ શકે.

ગાંડા બાવળ મુક્ત ગામની એષણા રાખવાવાળા ગામોને પણ આવકાર...

આવતા ચોમાસા પહેલાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા માંગતા ગામોની વિગતો મળે તો વધારે સારું આયોજન થઈ શકે.

Banaskantha’s Makhanu village, a village in a far-fetched area of Gujarat. Despite its remoteness, the village is blessed with compassionate and visionary leadership. At the helm of it all is Sarpanch Ashokbhai who has wonderful support of sensitive fellow leaders.

Bhanabhai had expressed the desire to deepen the village lakes, we did deepen two lakes as well. The leadership, as well as the community, had understood VSSM’s precondition of participation and contribution. Hence, they had arranged for tractors to lift the excavated soil and collected contribution for excavation too. (The excavated lakes can be seen in the images).

After the lake deepening works have picked momentum we have also begun to share the idea of planting trees on the banks of the lake. The fencing for the protection of the trees is to be done by the village. Makhanu did the required to commence plantation around the village crematorium. The trees are nurtured by Narsinhbhai, nature loving soul. VSSM pays a small remuneration to Narshinhbhai for his services.

When a village begins to care about its water and trees and the ecosystem around it, prosperity is bound to follow. We hope to plant 10,000 trees in Makhanu, a target we can achieve if they find enough land, water and build a fence around the land.

Our wastelands are brimming with gando bawal, a tree that is of use to no one. If we uproot them and plant native trees like neem, peepul, banyan, rayan, mulberries, jamun trees the birds and the bees around it are bound to be happy.

ભાણાભાઈ જેવા જાગૃત સરપંચ, અશોકભાઈ જેવા સંવદેનશીલ ગામલોકોનો સાથ.. પછી ગામના વિકાસના કામોની ગતિ અટકે શાની?

તળાવો કરવાની મનછા ભાણાભાઈએ VSSM સામે વ્યક્ત કરી. અમે ગામના બે તળાવો સરસ ઊંડા કર્યા. લોકોભાગીદારીની અમારી વાતને એ બરાબર સમજે. એટલે માટી ઉપાડવા ટ્રેક્ટર ઉપરાંત ખોદકામ માટે ફાળો પણ ભેગો કરેલો. (કરેલા તળાવોના ફોટો જોઈ શકાય છે)

તળાવની સાથે વૃક્ષો વવાય તેની વાત પણ અમે દરેક ગામોમાં કરીએ.. તે મખાણુના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વવાય એ માટે પાણી અને ઝાડ જ્યાં વવાય તે જગ્યાએ તાર ફ્રેન્સીંગની વાડ ગામે કરી આપી. એ પછી અમે એમાં ઝાડ વાવ્યા.

ગામના જ વૃક્ષપ્રેમી નરસીંહભાઈ વૃક્ષમિત્ર તરીકે સેવા આપે. સંસ્થા એમને નાનકડી સહાય દર મહિને આપે.

પાણી અને વૃક્ષોની જે ગામ ચિંતા કરે ત્યાં સુખાકારી આપો આપ આવવાની.

અમારી ઈચ્છા મખાણુમાં 10,000 ઝાડ વાવવાની છે. ગામલોકો જગ્યા શોધી આપે અને ત્યાં પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા તેમજ તાર ફ્રેનસીંગ કે કાંટાળી વાડ કરી આપે તો આ લક્ષાંક પણ પૂર્ણ થઈ શકે.

આપણા ગામની ઘણી જગ્યા ગાંડા બાવળથી ભરી પડી છે. બાવળ કોઈ કામના નથી એ કાઢીને એની જગ્યાએ લીમડો, આંબલી, પીપળો, વડ, સરગવો, રાયણ, જાંબુ, સેતુર વગેરે જેવા ઝાડ થાય તો કુદરત રાજી થઈ જાય..પક્ષીઓના ઘર થાય,જમીનમાં પાણીનો સંગ્રહ કરવા આ બધા ઝાડ મદદ કરે..

મખાણુંમાં ગામલોકો સાથે કરેલી બેઠકો.. ખાટલામાં બેસવાની એમની પદ્ધતિ મને બહુ ગમે..

 Trees, Mutheda’s Natha Ba compares them with children and calls them Baltaru!!

Just as it is challenging to raise a child without a mother similarly, it is difficult to raise trees without caring for them.

1000 trees were planted in Golvi, 810 of them are a year old now. Here, the role of a mother or a friend was performed by Dharmabhai and Amrabhai. The two of them together nurtured and raised these trees beautifully.

During my recent visit to Golvi, I spotted a bird's nest on one of the trees of these woods we are birthing. My heart leapt with joy at the sight of it. All the efforts have been worth it, I felt.

This year too we are planning to undertake plantation at another spot in Golvi. The sarpanch of the village Babubhai has installed a drip irrigation system for watering these saplings. Our Naran has been looking over all these efforts.

It is time all of us wake up to the environmental emergency we are facing, do our bit and make the earth green again.

બાળકનો ઉછેર મા વગર શક્ય નથી એમ તરુ, છોડનો ઉછેર પણ મા વગર કેમ થાય?

ગોલવીમાં અમે 1000 ઉપરાંત તરુ વાવ્યા જેમાંથી 810 વરસના થઈ ગયા. વૃક્ષમિત્ર કે વૃક્ષની મા ક્યો એ ધર્માભાઈ અને એમની સાથે અમરાભાઈ પણ. બેયે મળીને સરસ ઝાડ ઉછેર્યા.

હું ગોલવી ગઈ ત્યારે એક ઝાડમાં પક્ષીએ માળો મુકેલો જોયો.

જીવ રાજી થયો, વાવેલું સાર્થક થયું.

આ વર્ષે ગોલવીની જ બીજી એક જગ્યાએ બીજા તરુ વાવવાનું આયોજન છે.

સરપંચ બાબુભાઈએ વૃક્ષો માટે ટપક પદ્ધતિથી પાણી આપવાની સરસ વ્યવસ્થા કરી આપી.

સૌ જાગે અને ઝાડ વાવે.. ધરતી આપણી મા એની શોભા અને શણગાર આ ઝાડ, પશુ પક્ષીઓ પતંગિયા, મધમાખી ટૂંકમાં તમામ જીવ.. આપણી માને આ શણગાર જે જાણે અજાણે છીનવ્યો છે એ પરત આપીએ..

Why is it that the desserts or rann have sparse  or no human inhabitants? Correct, because they are devoid of water and vegetation. They have no trees and hence no shade. Life does not exist without trees and water, a fact even a 4th grader would know!! How did we forget it? How did we loose the sensitivity towards nature and our environment.

VSSM’s core work is with the nomadic and de-notified communities, the communities that survive under the elements. For them to be able to live under the shades of the trees they will need trees and  they will  also need water from common resources. With the destruction of the green cover around us and water becoming increasingly scarce, the chances of nomads or even us living peacefully in near future are faint.

It is for this reason that we have decided to begin intensive work on water conservation and tree plantation.

VSSM has charted a list of prerequisites for conducting a tree plantation drive in a particular village, the village whose  leadership prepared to meet the listed requirements will be selected for plantation drive during the first phase.

After Banaskantha, we have had series of meetings in Mehsana’s Khanusa, Sodkha and Pilvai villages and Gandhinagar’s Charda village. The village leadership in all these villages is prepared to take the tree plantation drive forward in their village but the community has to be consulted for their participation. We have scheduled a second round of meetings with them for the same.

The sites selected for the plantation drive in these villages are very beautiful and appropriate. The next round of meetings will ensure how much the villages are  prepared to commit themselves for financial contribution as well as affirming to take care of the trees planted during the drive. VSSM is insisting for community partnership and contribution because we want them to take ownership of the initiative and not allow it to become VSSM driven program. For the trees to flourish and lakes to brim with water it is important that villagers treat these and other common resources are their own.

વૃક્ષ વગર જીવન શક્ય નથી એ વાત સૌએ સમજવી ખુબ અગત્યની..

આમ તો અમારુ મુખ્યકામ વિચરતી વિમુક્ત જાતિઓના ઉત્થાનનું પણ અમે જેમના માટે કામ કરીએ છીએ એ લોકોને પણ સુખેથી રહેવું હશે તો પાણી અને વૃક્ષ તો જોઈશે જ.

વળી પાણી બચાવવાની અને વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા માટે જોઈએ તેવી સંવેદનશીલતા આપણી છે નહીં. 

માટે એક અભીયાનના રૃપમાં આ દિશામાં કામ કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું છે.

પ્રથમ તબક્કામાં પોતાના ગામમાં વૃક્ષારોપણ માટે અમારી શરતોને આધિન કામ કરવા તૈયાર ગામોમાં અમે વૃક્ષારોપણ કરવાનું કરીશું.

મહેસાણાના ખણુસા, સોખડા અને પીલવાઈગામમાં તેમજ ગાંધીનગરના ચરાડાગામમાં આ બાબતે બેઠક થઈ. સરપંચ અને ગામના કેટલાક જાગૃત યુવાનો આ કામ માટે તૈયાર છે. 

પણ ગામના સૌ સહભાગીતા દર્શાવે એ માટે હજુ એક બેઠક ગામના

જાગૃત નાગરિકો સાથે કરવાનું કરીશું. પછી આ ગામોમાં વૃક્ષારોપણ કરીશું.

ગામે વૃક્ષારોપણ માટે જે જગ્યા પસંદ કરી છે તે ખુબ સરસ છે...

ખાલી જોવાનું છે ગામનો સહયોગ એમાં આર્થિક પણ અને ઝાડની માવજતનો પણ કેટલો મળે છે અને એ માટે તેઓ કેટલા કટીબદ્ધ છે.

કટીબદ્ધતા દર્શાવશે તો ત્યાં કામ કરીશું એ નક્કી... બાકી આ કાર્યક્રમ અમારો ના બનતા ગામલોકોનો બને તો જ કામ કર્યાનો ખરો આનંદ આવે...
