Mittal Patel meets Jivi Ma

My life is at peace now; God will bless you with abundance and happiness!”  Jivi Ma showered us with her blessings. A resident of Zainabad of Patdi’s Dasada block, Jivi Ma, lost her young son to a heart attack two years ago. Madhuben, her daughter-in-law, could not take the shock; she lost her mental strength and suffered a stroke. Gradually she lost her ability to speak and remains confined to bed.

“It was better if god had taken me; this pain is unbearable….! But death does not come when asked for!” Jivi Ma reels under constant anguish.

Jivi Ma is a very senior citizen. Although ideally, Madhuben should be her caregiver, instead, at this age, it is Jivi Ma who has to take care of Madhuben.

Jivi Ma has a mentally challenged granddaughter, while the grandson is small. And sustaining all of them is now upon Jivi Ma. It is an everyday battle she fights to provide for the family.

The family lives near Bajaniya settlement, and the neighbors are supportive and help whenever possible, but they, too, survive under tremendous financial stress, so Jivi Ma, too cannot expect much from them.

VSSM began providing a monthly ration kit after we learned about this family. Our Kanubhai and Chayaben bring the kit to this family.

Recently, I had the opportunity to go see them, it seemed Madhuben was trying to convey something, but it was difficult for me to comprehend; her painful condition was difficult to witness. So I prayed for her well-being and that she may find freedom and peace.

 હવે મને ઘણી શાંતી સે બાપા. ભગવાન તમારુ હારુ કરશે. તમારુ અભરેભરાશે.. '

આ આશિર્વાદ સુરેન્દ્રનગરના દશાડાના જૈનાબાદમાં રહેતા જીવીમાંએ આપ્યા. જીવામાંના જુવાન દીકરાને બે વર્ષ પહેલાં હાર્ટ એટેક આવ્યો ને એ ગુજરી ગયો. પણ દીકરાના ગયા પછી તેમની પુત્રવધુ મધુબહેન આ આઘાત સહન ન કરી શક્યા. એ માનસીક રીતે પડી ભાંગ્યા. લકવો થઈ ગયો અને ધીમે ધીમે બોલવાનું પણ બંધ થઈ ગયું. આજે એ પથારીવશ છે. 

જીવી મા કહે, 'આનુ દુઃખ નથી જોવાતું ભગવાન એને લઈ લે તો સારુ...' પણ મોત ક્યાં માંગ્યું મળે?

જીવીમાની ઉંમર ઘણી. પુત્રવધુ તરીકે મધુબહેને એમની ચાકરી કરવી પડે પણ સ્થિતિ એવી નિર્માણ થઈ કે જીવીમાને મધુબહેનની ચાકરી કરવી પડે છે.

જીવીમાને એક પૌત્રી જે માનસીક રીતે વિકલાંગ. ને એક નાનો પૌત્ર.. જીવામા આ બધાનું પુરુ કરવા કોશીશ કરે.. પણ પહોંચી ન શકે. 

એ જ્યાં રહેતે તે બજાણિયા વસાહતના લોકો તેમને મદદ કરે પણ એમની આસપાસમાં રહેતા સૌની સ્થિતિ પણ એક સાંધે ત્યાં તેર તુટે એવી. આમાં કાયમી મદદ કરવી તો મુશ્કેલ.

અમારા ધ્યાને આ પરિવારની સ્થિતિ આવી અમે ત્યાં રાશનકીટ આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. અમારા કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન ત્યાં કીટ પહોંચાડે..

હમણાં આ પરિવારને મળવા ગયા તો મધુબહેન બે હાથ જોડી કશુંક કહેવા માંગતા હોય એવું લાગ્યું. જો કે મને કશું સમજાયું નહીં.

તેમની સ્થિતિ દયનીય છે. 

મધુબહેનના જીવને સાતા આપે અને તેમને ઝટ આ દુનિયામાંથી મુક્તિ આપે તેવી પ્રાર્થના તેમના માથે હાથ મુકીને કરી..

આવા માવતરો કે પરિવારોને અમે દર મહિને રાશનકીટ આપીયે..

"Ben, next time you are in Harij,   I want you to meet a Ba whom we have been providing a ration kit every month." Mohanbhai had requested.

And that is what I did. We reached Vansa, walking through a paved lane. We arrived at a front yard gate and walked slightly uphill to find some people gathered around a house. The Ba whom we had to meet was seated on the floor dressed in an orange saree. The folks gathered around were Dahi Ma's maternal family. Vision-impaired Dahi Ma doesn't have a house, and she stays in a small makeshift place whose tinned roof leaks during monsoons. So it has been a challenged existence for Dahi Ma.

Dahi Ma's husband passed away long back, and her young son, too, had died three years ago. Hence, her family had come by to help her repair her shade by replacing the tinned roof with a cement roof rested on concrete rests. Dahi Ma's eyes had welled up when she remembered her son/ Although her family had been persuading her to come to stay with them, she to leave the soil her son had lived upon was not an option she wanted.

Sureshbhai had shared a word about destitute Dahi Ma to VSSM's Mohanbhai. Dahi Ma would beg for food, and Sureshbhai would provide in whichever way he could, but that was not enough. Since he knew about VSSM's Mavjat initiative, Sureshbhai requested to give a monthly ration kit to Dahi Ma. Eventually, we began sending a ration kit to Dahi Ma.

Dahi Ma manages to cook with the ration that reaches her; she no longer needs to beg for food.

"How are you Dahi Ma?" I inquired.

"It has been a great relief now that you have helped with the ration kit. I don't need to stretch my hand for food." Dahi Ma had said with tears rolling down her eyes. "The family will build a roof over my head, but it will not protect me from cold and rains." Dahi Ma wished for a small room to protect her from the elements.

As I bid her farewell,  I assured her of helping her build a tiny house. I had the strength to give her this assurance because of our donors' faith in us. It is challenging to spend the later years of life yearning for basic needs to be sufficed. Nevertheless, we will fulfil her need for a small house.

“બેન આપણે એક બાને રાશનની કીટ આપીએ છીએ. એમને તમે હારીજ આવો છો તો મળી લઈએ. તમે એમને ખાસ મળો એવો મારો આગ્રહ છે”

આમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ આ કહ્યું ને અમે પહોંચ્યા વાંસા. પાક્કી સડકવાળી એક શેરીમાં ચાલતા ચાલતા એક વાડનું કડલું ખસેડી અમે ઢાળ ચડ્યા તો કેટલાક માણસો ત્યાં ઊભેલા. જે બાને મળવાનું હતું તે કેસરી સાડી પહેરીને ભોંય પર બેઠેલા. જે માણસો આવ્યા હતા તે આ ડાહીમાના પિયરીયા. ડાહી મા પાસે ઘર નહીં. એ ઢાળિયામાં રહે. પણ ઢાળિયાના પતરા કાણા. ચોમાસામાં એમાંથી પાણી પડે. એટલે એ ખૂબ હેરાન થાય. વળી ડાહીમાને આંખે દેખાતું નથી.

પિયરીયા કાંઈ સક્ષમ નથી પણ સીમેન્ટના પતરાંને થાંભલીઓ લઈને એ ઢાળિયું બનાવી આપવા આવેલા. 

ડાહીમાના પતિ વર્ષો પહેલાં ગુજરી ગયા. જુવાન દીકરો ત્રણેક વર્ષ પહેલાં ગુજરી ગયો. પણ એનો આઘાત ડાહીમાને ઘણો. એ દીકરાને યાદ કરી રડ્યા કરે.પિયરીયાએ પોતાના ત્યાં રહેવા આવવા કહ્યું પણ ડાહીમા કહે, જ્યાં મારો દીકરો મોટો થયો એ ભોમકા કેમ છોડાય?

એ નિરાધાર. 

ગામના સુરેશભાઈએ મોહનભાઈનો ડાહીમા સાથે પરિચય કરાવ્યો. તેઓ ગામમાંથી માંગીને ખાતા. સુરેશભાઈ પણ શક્ય મદદ કરે. પણ એનાથી ચાલે નહીં. અમે આવા નિરાધાર માવતરોને દર મહિને તેમને ચાલે એટલું રાશન આપીયે એવી સુરેશભાઈને ખબર ને એટલે એમણે ડાહીમાને રાશન આપવા વિનંતી કરી. ને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું.

ડાહી મા એ રાશનથી રસોઈ કરી ખાય. આખો મહિનો રાશન ચાલી જાય છે એમને કોઈ પાસે માંગવા જવું નથી પડતું. ડાહી માને તમે કેમ છો એમ પુછ્યું તો એ રડી પડ્યા. ઓશિયાળી વેઠવાની તમે મદદ કરો તે હખ છે હવે એવું એમણે કહ્યું. એમની ઈચ્છા એક ઓરડી જેવું ઘર બને એવી. ઢાળિયું પિયરીયા બનાવી આપશે પણ એમાં ડાઢ ન રોકાય ને વરસાદની વાછઠ તો આવે..

હું એમને મળીને નીકળી ત્યારે કહેતી આવી કે અમે ઘર બાંધી આપવામાં મદદ કરીશું. મદદનો ભરોષો તમે સૌ અમને મદદ કરશોના આધારે આપ્યો... પણ આખુ જીવન આમ વલવલતું કાઢ્યું એમની ઈચ્છા ઘરની તો પુરી જ કરવી જ રહી. 

તમે પણ ડાહીમાનું ઘર બાંધી આપવા શક્ય મદદ કરજો.. સાથે મળીને એકમને ઘર બાંધી આપીશું. મદદની રકમ 9099936013 પર પેટીએમ કરી શકાય. અથવા નીચેના બેંક એકાઉન્ટમાં પણ ભરી શકાય.

“She went away, leaving me alone,” having lost his wife just 15 days ago, Ashok kaka was in tears as he uttered these words. Kaka lives in Surendranagar and sold datan to make a living. But as age progressed, both Kaka and Kaki’s health deteriorated. They could not go out for work. The neighbours would help as much as possible, but that could not be an everyday affair. Also, neighbours are not family; they cannot care how a family does. Kaka-kaki depended on each other, and Kaki’s demise had left Kaka mentally broken. 

Surendranagar’s Shivakaka and Nanuma shared similar plight. They have no children of their own, and despite financial constraints, their nephew does help in whichever way he can. Kaka-kaki are aware of his financial limitations, so they try to sustain themselves on the ratio they get through their ration card. 

VSSM’s Harshadbhai’s compassionate and persistent efforts identified these elderly individuals. 

“We do not like to extend our hands, but we are helpless. The ration you provide us is a great help.” Shivakaka and Ashokkaka told me when I had met them recently. 

VSSM has been a support to numerous such elderly. Many of our well-wishers have adopted these elderly, the reason we can continue extending help to the ones in need. Today there are 205 elderly who receive monthly ration kits from VSSM. Usually, parents are our caretakers, but with these elderly, society needs to step up and take up the role of caretakers.  એ તો જતી રઈ.હું એકલો થઈ ગ્યો, આટલું કહેતા સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રહેતા અશોકકાકા રડી પડ્યા

એમના પત્નીનું દેહાંત 15 દિવસ પહેલાં થયું. કાકા સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં દાતણ વેચતા. પણ ઉંમર થતા કાકા કાકી બેયની તબીયત નરમગરમ રહેવા માંડી.

કામ બંધ થયું. પડોશીઓ શક્ય સાચવવા કોશીશ કરે પણ કાયમ સાચવવું મુશ્કેલ વળી  પરિવારમાં સાચવી શકે તેવું કોઈ નહીં. કાકા કાકીને એકબીજાનો સહારો હતો પણ કાકી જતા કાકા મનથી ભાંગી પડ્યા. 

આવા જ નોંધારા શીવાકાકા ને નાનુમા. એય સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રહે. તેમને સંતાન નહીં તેમનો ભત્રીજો તેમને શક્ય મદદ કરે. મૂળ એ ભાઈએ કલરકામ કરી પેટિયું રળે.  કાકા કાકીને સાચવવાની એ ના ન પાડે પણ એમનીય સ્થિતિયે ઠીક. કાકા ને કાકી બેઉ રેશનકાર્ડ પર મળતા અનાજ પર નભવા કોશીશ કરે. 

આ બેઉને અમારા હર્ષદે ખોળી કાઢ્યા. મૂળ એય લાગણીવાળો ને આ બધા કાર્યોમાં પાછો સતત લાગેલો રહે. 

અશોકકાકા ને શીવાકાકાને મળવાનું થયું ત્યારે એમણે કહ્યું, તમે રાશનની મદદ કરી શકો તો સારુ. માંગવું ગમે નહીં પણ શું કરીએ...

અમે આવા નોંધારા માવતરોનો આધાર બનવાની કોશીશ કરીએ. આવા માવતરોને ઘણા પ્રિયજનોએ દત્તક લીધા છે ને એટલે આ કાર્યો થઈ શકે છે.. માવતરોની સંખ્યા 205 ઉપર પહોંચી.. જેમને દર મહિને અમે રાશનકીટ આપીએ... 

આમ તો મા-બાપ પાલક હોય પણ અહીંયા સમાજે એમના પાલક બનવું રહ્યું....

To some, ageing is a punishment. How to survive years when living even a moment seems an eternity?

Lilakaka and Dhulikaki reside in Patan’s Jasupura. The couple has no children. They worked as labourers until body supported; they are old and weak now, kaka is bedridden due to some medical condition. Kaki cannot leave his side. Recently, kaka’s health condition worsened, he lost his ability to speak.

It is their neighbours who sustain them. VSSM has been providing a monthly ration kit to them so that they do not have to be at the mercy of others.

I recently visited the Kaka-Kaki to inquire about their well-being. Kaka sat upon his charpoy, he was trying to tell me something, but he couldn’t speak. We could not comprehend what he was trying to say, but we assured him that we will be with him all the way.

VSSM’s Shankarbhai was the first to reach and identify this couple who reside in a remote region. And many like them need support to spend their silver years with dignity.

VSSM nurtures 185 such destitute elderly, each of whom receives a monthly ration kit of Rs. 1200.

It is believed one should give away 10% of their income for the welfare of those in need.

ઘડપણમાં ઘડી કાઢવી મુશ્કેલ ત્યાં દિવસો કેમના નીકળે?

#પાટણના #જસુપુરામાં નિસંતાન લીલાકાકા ને ધુળીકાકી રહે.

મજૂરી થતી ત્યાં સુધી કરી. પછી શરીર થાક્યુ.. ને છેલ્લા કેટલાક વખતથી તો કાકાએ ખાટલો ઝાલ્યો. હવે કાકી એમને મુકીને ક્યાંય ન જઈ શકે.

જો કે આટલું ઓછુ હતું ત્યાં હમણાં કાકાની વાચા ગઈ.

પડોશીઓના સહારે નભતા આ દંપતીને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીએ મૂળ કોઈની ઓશિયાળી વેઠવીન પડે માટે...

હમણાં એમની ખબર પુછવા ગઈ. અમને જોઈને કાકા ખાટલામાં બેઠા થયા. કશુંક કહેવું હતું પણ બોલી ન શક્યા. મે રજા માંગી ત્યારે પણ બોલવું હતું પણ ન બોલાયું..

એ શું કહેવા માંગે છે તે ન સમજાયું પણ અમે સાથે છીએ ચિંતા ન કરોનું અમે કાકાને કહ્યું.. 

અમારા કાર્યકર શંકરભાઈએ આ માવતરને શોધ્યા.. અંતરિયાળ ગામડાંઓમાં કેટલાય લોકો છે જેમને આપણી મદદની જરૃર છે.. ત્યારે અમે અમારાથી થતું કરીએ..

આવા 185 થી વધુ  માવતરોને અમે સાચવીએ.. પ્રત્યેકને માસીક રાશન આપવાનો ખર્ચ 1200 રૃપિયા. 

કહે છે કમાણીનો દસમો ભાગ સતકાર્યો માટે કાઢવો જોઈએ..

To hold the hand and affectionately kiss it.

A medical condition in her left leg required Saarbai to opt for its amputation till the knee. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law but felt guilty to do so. “How can I eat at my daughter’s house?” Like most parents dependant of their daughters,  Saarbai too questioned herself. VSSM provides her a monthly ration kit under it’s Maavjat initiative.

I was in the region to look at the plots the Dafer families of Surendranagar’s Bhadvana village had been allotted as they will soon begin construction on the same.

Hakimbha mentioned that Saarbai had been eagerly awaiting my visit. And when I went to meet her she showered me with affection (as seen in the picture).

I feel so lucky to receive so much love and affection from these communities!!

સારબાઈને એક પગમાં તકલીફ થઇ તે ગુઠણથી નીચેનો પગ કાપવો પડ્યો..

જમાઈના ઘરે રહે પણ દીકરીના ઘરનું નો ખવાય એવું થયા કરે. અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે..

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના ભાડવાણામાં રહેતા ડફેર પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળ્યા હવે ઘર બાંધવાના થશે તે પ્લોટ ફળવાયાની જગ્યા જોવા ગઈ.

સારબાઈ કાગડોળે વાટ જોઈ રહ્યાનું હકીમભા એ કહ્યું..

ને જેવી એમની પાસે ગઈ કે ફોટોમાં દેખાય એ લાગણી વ્યક્ત થઇ..
