In the village of Devkigalol in Jetpur District in Rajkot stays Panchabapa. The house of Panchabapa is right in the middle of the street. The small house is built with raw bricks. Panchabapa has no money to do the flooring so the house would get flooded in monsoon. He would keep on removing the water. The walls were weak and it would become damp in the monsoon. When there is lightning it feels that the house would collapse. 

Panchabapa does the work of a cobbler. He has a lot of self respect and would never ask for help from anyone. He has a son who was handicapped. & therefore could not work. Father & son stayed together in a small room.

Bapa's vision had also grown weak yet he would cook food. His neighbours would also take proper care of him but everyone has their own house to take care of. So Bapa would not like to bother them.

Bapa's house did not have proper vessels. We reached his home in the afternoon. There were Rotis made but there was no vessel to keep it safe. Rotis were kept in a wax bag.

Both father & son could not work. We provide them with the monthly food kit. This helps them to meet their daily food requirement and they live a respectful life. Our associate Smt Chhayaben has seen Bapa in distress because he did not have a proper roof in his house. She requested us to construct a proper house for Bapa. After meeting him we felt that we should make his home without any delay. 

We requested our well wisher Shri Kishorebhai Patel from USA,  He, in memory of his son Kushal, immediately agreed to build a "Kush" home for Bapa. He also gave vessels for the house for which we are extremely thankful. It is because of kind hearted people like him that such work gets done.

During storms the roof would fly off and during monsoon the floor would get flooded.   He would be put into very serious difficulty. It was his wish that the roof & floor be repaired & there would be one light and a fan in the house. Having spent his entire life repairing footwear he had no money to fulfill his wish. VSSM became instrumental in fulfilling Bapa's wish & we are happy about it.

રાજકોટના જેતપુરનું દેવકીગાલોલ ગામ. ગામમાં પાંચાબાપા રહે. આમ બાપા જ્યાં રહે તે શેરીમાં બાપાનું ઘર બરાબર વચ્ચો વચ.. કાચી ઈંટોમાંથી ચણેલી નાનકડી ઓરડી. ઓરડીનું તળિયું નાખવા પૈસા નહીં તે તળિયું નાખેલું નહીં. ચોમાસામાં ઘરમાં પાણી ભરાય. બાપા કહે, ચોમાસામાં સતત પાણી ઉલેચતો રહું. ભીંતો કાચી એટલે બધે ભેજ. ને વીજળીના કડાકા થાય ત્યારે તો ઘર પડી જશે તો એવું થાય..

પાંચાબાપા ગામમાં મોચી કામ કરતા. બાપા સ્વમાની કોઈ સામે હાથ લાંબો કરવો ગમે નહીં.. એમના એક દિકરા. પણ એ વિકલાંગ. ખાસ કામ ન કરી શકે. બાપ દીકરો એકલા ઓરડીમાં રહે.

બાપાને આંખો ઓછુ ભળાય. છતાં રસોઈ એમના ભાગે.. એમની બાજુમાં રહેતા કટુંબીજનો પણ બાપાને બરાબર સાચવે. પણ દરેક પોતાનું ઘર લઈને બેઠુ છે એટલે એમને બોજો ન અપાય એવું બાપા કહે.

ઘરમાં સરખી ઘરવખરી પણ નહી. અમે બપોરે પહોંચ્યા. એમણે રોટલીઓ બનાવેલી. પણ રોટલી ભરવા ડબ્બો નહીં તે એક મીણિયાની થેલીમાં રોટલીઓ એમણે ભરેલી..

કામ તો બાપ દીકરાથી થાય નહીં. અમે એ સ્વમાનભેર ખાઈ શકે તે માટે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે.

પણ બાપાના માથે સરખી છત નહીં. એમને હેરાન થતા જોઈ અમારા કાર્યકર  બાપાનું ઘર કરી દેવા અમને કહ્યું ને બાપાને મળ્યા પછી તત્કાલ ઘર કરી દેવાની લાગણી થઈ.

અમેરીકામાં રહેતા અમારા કિશોર અંકલ(કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ) ને કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં આ કુશ હોમ બનાવવા વાત કરીને અંકલે તુરત એ માટે હા કહી. અંકલે તો જરૃર પડે ઘરવખરી પણ કરી દેવાનું કહ્યું. અંકલની આ લાગણી માટે ઘણી આભારી છું... તેમના જેવા સ્વજનોના સહયોગથી જ આ બધા કામો થાય...

પાંચાબાપાને વાવાઝોડામાં પતરા ઉડી જાયની બીક લાગે, ચોમાસામાં પાણી ભરાય ને એ દુઃખી થઈ જાય. એમની ઈચ્છા આ પીડા દૂર થાય ને ઘરમાં એકાદ પંખો, લાઈટની સુવિધા થાય તેવું ઘર કરવાની હતી. પણ આખી જીંદગી ચંપલ સાંધવામાં ગઈ. એમાં કાંઈ ઝાઝુ ભેગુ ન કરી શક્યા.

બાપા અમારા એટલે એમનું સરસ ઘર થાય એમાં VSSM નિમિત્ત બનશે...

“What is that paper for?”

“That we do not know!”

That was my interaction with the very innocent Gadaliya families of Rajkot’s Moviya village.

The Gadaliya families practice the traditional occupation of selling oxen, for which they are required to wander across Saurashtra. They do stay in Moviya village but not for a prolonged period. As a result, they do not have any documents to prove their identity. In the beginning,  we helped them acquire voter id cards by collaborating with panchayat and local leaders. Once the voter id cards were obtained, we worked towards obtaining other documents. 

VSSM’s Kanubhai and Chayabahen tried convincing the families to make their base in Moviya village, then only it would be easy to get the documents and identity proofs processed. Once they settle here, each family can file for a residential plot and eventually build a house over it.

After a lot of convincing, the families agreed to stay in Moviya. VSSM helped them acquire caste certificates to access the welfare schemes by the government.

The once homeless and address less nomadic families are beginning to receive identity. There is, amongst them, a growing desire to lead a settled life, one that will allow their children to receive education and flourish. 

The administration of Rajkot has undertaken the task of providing them with residential plots; hopefully, they will be done with it soon.

રાજકોટના ગોંડલના મોવિયાગામના સાવ ભોળા અને નિર્દોષ ગાડલિયા પરિવારોએ આ કહ્યું. વાત જાણે એમ હતી... આ ગાડલિયા પરિવારો બળદો વેચવાનું કામ કરે અને એ માટે સૌરાષ્ટ્ર આખુ ભમે.  મોવિયામાં રહે વર્ષોથી પણ ઠરી ઠામ ન થાય. એટલે ઓળખના આધારો એમની પાસે ન મળે..   

અમે સ્થાનીક આગેવાનો અને પંચાયત સાથે મળી પ્રથમ મતદારકાર્ડ કઢાવી આપ્યા. પછી અન્ય દસ્તાવજો કઢાવવા માટેની પ્રક્રિયા હાથ ધરી... 

અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન આ પરિવારોને હવે મોવિયા સ્થિર રહેવા સમજાવે જેથી અહીંયાના તમામ આધાર પુરાવા બની જાય અને પછી તેમની મનછા પ્રમાણે રહેવા  પ્લોટ મળે ને એના  ઉપર ઘર પણ બંધાય.

ઘણી સમજાવટ પછી કેટલાક પરિવારો રહ્યા. જેમને જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર અમે કઢાવી આપ્યા જેથી અન્ય કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાઓની એ મદદ મેળવી શકે. 

સરનામા વિનાના આ માનવીઓને હવે ઓળખ  મળવા માંડી છે.  હવે તેમની ઈચ્છા સ્થિર જીવનની. સ્થિરતા આવશે તો બાળકો પણ ભણશે...

રાજકોટ વહીવટીતંત્રએ પણ આ બધા પરિવારોને રહેવા સત્વરે પ્લોટ ફાળવી આપવાની કામગીરી હાથ ધરી છે આશા રાખીએ  આ કાર્ય  સત્વરે પાર પડે.

We wander, we stray across the woodlands.

We endure the pain inflicted by generations of neglect.

The same  Mother Earth has birthed us, yet we face alienation.

Just like stray cattle, we have no address to call our own!

Without a home, village or identity to call our own, tell us where do we go,

Under the open sky, on the bare earth is how we survive.

We have found respite from the anguish we have suffered for centuries.

Noted poet, author and ex-president of VSSM,  Shri Madhavbhai Ramanuj penned the above lines expressing the painful sentiments of nomadic tribes.

Our Chief Minster had graced the house warming ceremony for 65 nomadic families at Rajkot’s Rampara Beti a few days ago. The houses have been built by VSSM in partnership with the government. A similar event is taking place in Banaskantha’s Kakar village on 20th May 2022 at 4.30 PM.

VSSM has facilitated the construction of homes for 90 nomadic families and a hostel with the capacity of hosting 180 children. At Kakar, the Chief Minister will perform a house warming ceremony for 90 families and the opening ceremony of the hostel. He will also give away residential plot documents to 700 families and E-Shram Card, Arogya Card, ration cards, caste certificates etc. to 3000 individuals.

We are grateful to the District Collector Shri Anandbhai and the local administration of Banaskantha; it is because of their compassion these families will receive these documents in such a short time.

We invite our well-wishing friends and supporters to be part of this public event.

The families who have been living in wild woodlands are on the threshold of moving into settlements made with care and compassion. Seven hundred more families will begin their journey of building a home, and their anguish will soon find respite.

Once again many thanks to the government and administration.

સદીઓ જૂના સંતાપોને હવે મળ્યો વિસામો....

આદરણીય માધવ રામાનુજ જાણીતા કવી, સાહિત્યકાર અને એક વખતે VSSM સંસ્થાના પ્રમુખ રહી ચુકેલા. તેમણે વિચરતી જાતિઓની લાગણી વ્યક્ત કરતી આ કવિતા લખેલી..

તાજેતરમાં આપણા રાજ્યના મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીએ રાજકોટના રામપરાબેટીમાં 65 વિચરતી જાતિઓને VSSM અને સરકારની મદદથી બંધાયેલા ઘરમાં ગૃહપ્રવેશ કરાવેલો. આવો જ એક અનોખો કાર્યક્રમ બનાસકાંઠના કાકર ગામમાં તા.20 મે 2022ના રોજ સાંજના 4.30 વાગે યોજાવાનો..

90 વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારો  તેમજ વિચરતી જાતિના 180 બાળકો રહી શકે તેવા છાત્રાલયની વ્યવસ્થા કાકરગામમાં અમે ઊભી.. મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી અહીંયા પણ 90 પરિવારોને ગૃહપ્રવેશ કરાવશે. તેમજ છાત્રાલયનું ઉદ્ધાટન કરશે. આ સિવાય 700 ઉપરાંત પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફળવાશે ને એ સિવાય  3000 થી વધુ લોકોને ઈ શ્રમકાર્ડ, આરોગ્ય કાર્ડ, રેશનકાર્ડ, જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર વગેરે મળશે... 

આ પરિવારો માટે લાગણી રાખનાર સૌને કાર્યક્રમમાં પધારવા ખાસ વિનંતી.. 

સદીઓ વગડો ખૂંદનાર આ પરિવારો વહાલપની વસાહતમાં રહેવા જશે... 

જ્યારે વગડોખૂંદતા 700 થી વધુને ઠરીઠામ થવાનું ઠેકાણું મળશે... તેમના સંતાપોને વિસામો મળશે...

Thank you, Chief Minister, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, District Collector Shri Arun Mahesh Babu and the district administration of Rajkot.

The joint efforts of the State Government, District Administration of Rajkot and VSSM have resulted in the construction of a  beautiful residential colony called Sanjeevani Society at Rajkot’s Rampart Beti. As a result, sixty-five nomadic families living in the woodlands for generations will soon move into houses made with love and compassion.

And the Chief Minister himself will grace the occasion of Gruh-Pravesh/House Warming ceremony for these families, overwhelming indeed!

The Prime Minister of India has pledged a home for each homeless family in this country, and the houses at Rampara Beti are an outcome of this pledge.

The entire district administration of Rajkot, especially the District Collector Shri Arunji, is very proactive; apart from the housewarming for 65 families, 400 homeless families belonging to various nomadic communities will also be allotted residential plots. Moreover, the 65 homes at Sanjeevani Society have electricity connections and access to water under Nal-se-Jal Scheme. All of these have been possible because of the enthusiasm of the district administration.

The District Collector and his team of officials visited the Sanjeevani Society recently when the families had the opportunity to express their gratitude (as seen in the picture). 

Apart from the government, our well-wishing donors have also contributed to construct these houses.

To all our well-wishing friends staying in and around Rajkot, who have always expressed the desire to meet us, we cordially invite you all to be part of the house warming ceremony.

રાજકોટનું વહીવટીતંત્ર ને ખાસ કરીને કલેક્ટર શ્રી અરુણજી ખુબ જ સક્રિય.  65 પરિવારોના ગૃહપ્રવેશની પ્રક્રિયા તો થશે સાથે સાથે 400 જેટલા વિચરતી જાતિના ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ - આમ તો પાક્કુ સરનામુ આપવાનું આ કાર્યક્રમ થકી થશે...

આ ઉપરાંત આ વસાહતમાં રહેતા 65 પરિવારોને વિજળી મળી, નલ સે જલ યોજના અંતર્ગત પાણીની સુવિધા પણ થઈ ગઈ. બધુ જ સુંદર રીતે તંત્રની સક્રિયતાના લીધે થયું. 

કલેકટર શ્રી અને સમગ્ર તંત્રએ વસાહતની મુલાકાત લીધી અને આ પરિવારોની લાગણી સાંભળી.. જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે..

આ પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવા સરકાર ઉપરાંત VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોએ પણ મદદ કરી. સૌનો ઘણો આભાર...

રાજકોટ આસપાસમાં રહેતા અમારા સ્નેહીજનો જેઓ મળવું છે એવું કહેતા તે તમામને આ કાર્યક્રમમાં  પધારવા ભાવભીનું નિમંત્રણ.. 

આ પરિવારોની પહેલીપેઢી પોતાના એ પણ પાક્કા ઘરમાં રહેવા જઈ રહી છે...

ખુબ હોંશ છે સૌને...શુભેચ્છા પાઠવવા જેમની પણ ભાવના છે એ સૌ પધારજો...

Mittal Patel meets Muktaba and Jagdishkaka

This smile on our faces is fake; we pretend to look happy. The beggars can beg for food, and we cannot even do that. We have no choice but to endure the pain poverty brings along. If there is no food, we drink water and spend the night but cannot stretch our hands...”  Muktaba was in tears as she narrated their anginous living condition.

Muktaba and Jagdishkaka’s son used to fend for them, but last year the couple lost her only son to a freak accident. Somehow the marriage of their son did not last long, but the income he earned helped sustain Muktaba and Jagdishkaka. The family lived in a rented house, and life just rolled on until the tragedy struck. Their daughter is married into a joint family and her financial condition too is fragile, so she also could not help her parents financially.

With no choice left, Muktaba began working as domestic help in the neighbourhood. Even though it was difficult for her to work as domestic help because of her age and body condition, she continued working because the couple had no other choice. Kaka had suffered a stroke that had paralysed his half body, Muktaba also had the added responsibility of tending to his needs.

After the death of their son, the couple had no resources to pay the rent; hence they reached out to a builder and requested a place to stay against taking care of the premises. The builder sympathised and gave them refuge. This eased their living situation for a year. But as the apartments reached the completion stage, they were asked to move out.

The family had a house in Lodhika, but their nephew cheated with them and made Kaka stamp on the transfer document pretending it be a pension application. The couple has no money to fight a case or hire a lawyer.

When they learnt about a room for a cleaner at a building, they approached the residents and requested a place to stay. They were allowed to move into the room on the condition that Muktaba would sweep the premises for free. Which she does apart from cleaning dishes at a couple of houses. The remuneration from these odd jobs is meagre; hence, meeting the medical and food expenses is difficult.

When our Chayabahen and Kanubhai learnt about the condition of this couple, they immediately brought them under Mavjat’s care program, and a ration kit began reaching them every month.

I made it a point to go and see them recently. It was heart-wrenching to learn how greedy individuals take no mercy and lynch such destitute elderly.

VSSM provides ration kits to 225 such elderly in need of care and support. It helps bring food on their plate. You, too, can choose to support the elderly by donating Rs. 1400/- a month.

'લાફો મારી ગાલ રાતો રાખવો પડે એવી અમારી હાલત છે. માંગણિયાર લોકો તો ગામ પાહે માંગી હકે પણ અમે તો એમેય નથી કરી હકતા. ખાવા ના હોય તો પાણી પીને પડ્યા રેવાનું પણ કોઈ પાહે...'

આટલું બોલતા બોલતા મુક્તા બાની આંખોમાં ઝળઝળિયા આવી ગયા. 

તેમનો દિકરો એક વર્ષ પહેલાં જ ગુજરી ગયો. દિકરાના લગ્ન કરાવેલા પણ કોઈક કારણસર એનું છુટુ થઈ ગયું. દીકરો દસ હજાર કમાવી લાવતો જેમાંથી તે મુક્તા બા ને જગદીશ કાકાને ખવડાવતો. 

ભાડાના ઘરમાં એ રહેતા. હખેડખે જિંદગી નીકળતી. ત્યાં અચાનક દીકરો ગૂુજરી ગયો. માથે આભ ફાટ્યું. એમને દીકરી ખરી પણ એ સંયુક્ત કુટુંબમાં રહે વળી એનીયે સ્થિતિ નાજુક એટલે એ કાંઈ એવડી મોટી મદદ ન કરી શકે.

આખરે મુક્તા બાએ  લોકોના ઘરે કચરા પોતા, વાસણ માંજવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. પણ આ કામ એમનાથી થાય નહીં. મૂળ શરીર ભારે, ઘૂંટણમાં પણ તકલીફ એટલે ભોંય પર બેસી કામ કરવામાં તોબા થઈ જાય પણ એ બધુ અવગણીને એ કામ કરે. 

વળી પાછુ કાકાને અડધા શરીરે લકવા થઈ ગયો. તે એમનેય ઉપાડી ઉપાડીને ફેરવવા પડે. 

આવામાં દિકરો ગયા પછી ભાડું આપી શકાય તેવા પૈસા રહ્યા નહીં. આથી નવા બંધાઈ રહેલા ફ્લેટના માલીકને માલ- સામાનની મુક્તાબા પોતે ચોકી કરશેનું કહી આશરો આપવા કહ્યું. બીલ્ડ઼રે વગર પગારે રહેવા સહમતી આપી ને એમનું વરસ નીકળી ગયું. 

ફલેટ બંધાઈ જતા જગ્યા ખાલી કરવાનું કહેણ આવ્યું. હવે પ્રશ્ન હતો રહેવા ક્યાં જશું નો? લોધિકામાં એમનું ઘર હતું પણ દીકરો ગુજરી ગયા પછી ભત્રીજો આવીને પેન્શનના કાગળ તૈયાર કરુ છુ અહીંયા સહી કરો એમ કહીને મકાનના કાગળ પર કાકાનો અંગૂઠો કરાવી લીધો ને મકાન એમના નામે કરાવી લીધું. એટલે એ રસ્તો બંધ થયો. હા કેસ કરવાનું મુકતાબા એ કહ્યું. પણ એ માટે એમની પાસે પૈસા નહીં. 

આમ રહેવાનો મોટો પ્રશ્ન ઊભો થયો. ત્યાં અચનાક એક બીલ્ડીંગમાં રહીશોએ એક નાનકડી ઓરડી બિલ્ડીંગનું સફાઈ કામ તેમજ વોચમેનનું કામ કરનાર માટે બનાવી હોવાનો ખ્યાલ આવ્યો...

મુક્તા બા ત્યાં પહોંચ્યા ને પોતાને એ ઓરડીમાં રહેવા દેવા વિનંતી કરી. બિલ્ડ઼ીંગના રહેવાસીઓએ બિલ્ડીંગમાં કચરો વાળવાનું કામ વિનામુલ્યે કરશો તો રહેવા દઈશુંનું કહ્યું. બુઢા માવતરોને તો આસરો જોતો હતો. એમણે એ કાર્ય માથે લીધું.

મુક્તા બા સવારે બિલ્ડીંગમાં કચરો વાળે. ને પછી બે ત્રણ ઘરના વાસણ ઘસવા જાય ને હજાર પંદરસો કમાઈ લે. પણ એમાંથી દવાઓ સાથે ઘરનું પુરુ કરવું મુશ્કેલ. એમની આ વિપદા અમારા કાર્યકર છાયાબહેન અને કનુભાઈના ધ્યાને આવી. તેઓ બેય માવતરોને મળ્યા ને તુરત સ્થિતિ સમજી અમે રાશનકીટ આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. 

હું હમણાં ગઈ ત્યારે એમને મળવા ખાસ ગઈ એ વખતે એમણે આ બધુ કહ્યું. સાંભળીને હૃદયદ્રવી ઊઠે. કેવો ફરેબ એમના પોતાના લોકોએ એમની સાથે કર્યો. 

ખેર આવા 225 થી વધુ માવતરોને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીએ છીએ જેથી એ પેટ ભરીને ખાઈ શકે.

 Radhaben, a resident of Ahmedabad’s Anesan has been requesting for electricity connection to her shanty under the government’s scheme of providing power to hutments and shanties. Yes, Radhaben in struggling to bring electricity to her house. “We are particularly afraid during monsoons. We fear being stung by snakes and scorpions.”Radhaben has shared her woes of surviving monsoons without electricity. Recently her worst fears came to life when Radhaben’s son was bitten by a snake, they could save him with great difficulty.

Only homeless families like these can value the importance of roof, power and water. Basic facilities of power and water do not exist on the wastelands the nomads set up their settlements. The women and girls of these communities have to bear the brunt of these fundamental deficiencies. VSSM strives to ensure these families are allotted residential plots and assistance to build their first homes. Apart from the government assistance, the families also receive support from our well-wishing donors.

We are in the process of constructing a settlement for the nomadic families at Rajkot’s Rampara. There have been tremendous challenges to avail water and power. Our dear Nileshbhai Munshi’s support has helped us get an electricity connection to the settlement.

VSSM purchased water worth Rs. 4 lacs for the construction of this settlement. But “if we cannot have drinking water in the settlement, the purpose behind these efforts would be lost,” we wrote to our Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani.

As a result of his instructions and continuous follow up by Shri Ashwini Kumar Sir, WASMO has agreed to work in the settlement. The community’s contribution of Rs. 1.4 lacs has been supported by Shri Piyushbhai Kothari of Jewelex Foundation,  as a result we had a ‘Nal se Jal’ like situation even before the construction of houses was accomplished. The settlement now has 50,000 litres tank and taps at each house.

Our heartfelt gratitude towards the government and Piyushbhai.

અમદાવાદના એણાસણમાં રહેતા રાધાબહેન વર્ષોથી પોતાનું ઝૂંપડું જે સરકારી જમીન પર છે ત્યાં વીજળીની માંગણી કરી રહ્યા છે. સરકારની ઝૂંપડાં વીજળીકરણ યોજના ખરી પણ રાધાબહેનને લાઈટ નથી મળતી. રાધાબહેન કહે, બેન ચોમાસાની રાતે બહુ બીક લાગે ક્યાંક સાપ, એરુ ડંખી જાય તો..

એમનો ભય સાચો ઠર્યો.એમના જુવાન દીકરાને હમણાં સાપ કરડ્યો. એ માંડ માંડ બચ્યો. 

ખુલ્લામાં રહેનાર આ પરિવારોને ઘર, વીજળી અને પાણીનું મહત્વ વધારે સમજાય.જ્યાં વિચરતી જાતિના આ પરિવારો ડેરા નાખે ત્યાં પાસે પાણી ન હોય. બહેન દીકરીઓ માટલાં ઉપાડી ઉપાડીને થાકી જાય.આવામાં અમે આ પરિવારોને સરકાર રહેવા પ્લોટ ને પ્લોટ પર ઘર બાંધવા મદદ કરે તે માટે મથીએ. ઘર બાંધવા સરકારી સહાય ઉપરાંત અમારી સાથે સંકળાયેલા દાતાઓ પણ મદદ કરે. 

રાજકોટના રામપરામાં અમે વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોની કોલોની બાંધી રહ્યા છીએ. પાણી અને વિજળી મેળવવા ઘણી હાલાકી વેઠી. વીજળી માટે તો પ્રિય નિલેશભાઈ મુનશીએ મદદ કરી ને વીજળી આવી.

 બાંધકામ માટે અમે 4 લાખનું વેચાતું પાણી લાવ્યા. પણ પીવા માટે પાણી ન મળે તો આ ઘરનો અર્થ નહીં રહે તેવી  રજૂઆત મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી વિજયભાઈને અમે કરી. તેમની સૂચના અને આદરણીય અશ્વીની કુમાર સરનું સતત ફોલોઅપ થવાના કારણે વાસ્મોએ આ કામ માટે હા પાડી. 

લોકફાળો 1.4 લાખ ભરવાનો હતો. જે અમારા પીયુષભાઈ કોઠારી - જ્વેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશને ભર્યો ને જુઓ મકાન પૂર્ણ થાય એ પહેલાં નલ સે જલ યોજના જેવું થઈ ગયું. 50,000 લીટર પાણીનો ટાંકો અને ઘરે ઘરે નળ આવી ગયા..

The Kangasiya families of Rajkot survive under conditions the shared images depict. When we first came in their contact, they possessed no identity proof. With the support VSSM provided and compassion, the officials showed they could acquire identity proof.

The pressing issue was to help them obtain residential plots. Our Prime Minister has pledged to provide housing to all by 2022.

 “Ben, when will we have a place to call our own, a place we will not ask to vacate?” the families invariably inquired whenever I visited them.

VSSM has helped file applications along with an appeal to the district collector of Rajkot with a request to expedite the allotment. We would also like to request the ever-supportive respected Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani to kindly help us with this matter. 

રાજકોટના કુવાળવાગામમાં કાંગસિયા સમુદાયના પરિવારો ફોટોમાં દેખાય એ હાલમાં રહે.

આ પરિવારોને અમે પહેલીવાર મળ્યા ત્યારે એમની પાસે ઓળખના એકેય આધારો નહોતા. અમે મદદ કરી અધિકારીએ લાગણી રાખી એટલે આધારો તો થઈ ગયા.

હવે મુખ્ય મુદ્દો તેમને સ્થાયી રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળે તે. 

આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીનું સ્વપ્ન 2022 સુધીમાં ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને ઘર આપવાનું. 

જ્યારે પણ આ પરિવારોની વસાહતમાં જવું ત્યારે પુછાતો પ્રશ્ન બેન ક્યારે અમને અમારી જગ્યા મળશે જ્યાંથી અમને કોઈ ખાલી ન કરાવે. 

રાજકોટ કલેક્ટર શ્રીને પ્લોટ ફાળવવા અરજી તેમજ દરખાસ્ત કરી દીધી છે. બસ તેમને ઝટ પ્લોટ ફળવાય તે માટે વિનંતી... 

આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રીશ્રી વિજયભાઈ પણ અમારા કાર્યમાં ઘણી મદદ કરે તેમને પણ આ બાબતે મદદરૃપ થવા વિનંતી...

Many nomadic families stay over the government wasteland in Morbi. Our team members Kanubhai and Chayaben work round the clock to help these families attain the documents of their identity, link them to the benefits of various government schemes for poverty elevation and much more. Our efforts received government support enabling us speed up the work. The district administration led by the respected District Collector remains on toes to address the issues of these communities.

Recently, I had the opportunity to hand over caste certificates to 143 nomadic families, very soon these families will also be allotted residential plots.

We are grateful to the officials and administration for their support, our well-wishers who are constantly by our side. It means a world to us!

મોરબી તાલુકામાં વિચરતી જાતિઓના ઘણા પરિવારો સરકારી પડતર અને ખરાબાની જમીનમાં રહે...

આ બધાને રહેવા જમીન, અનાજ મળે તેવું રેશનકાર્ડ ને સૌથી અગત્યનું વંચિતોના કલ્યાણ અર્થે બનાવેલી સરકારની કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાઓની મદદ મળે તે માટે જોઈતું જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર મળે તે માટે અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ, છાયાબહેન ઘણું મથે..

મોરબીમાં રહેતા વિચરતીજાતિના પરિવારો ને જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર આપવાનો મોકો મળ્યો. આમાંના 143 પરિવારોને ટૂંક સમયમાં રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ પણ ફળવાશે.

આમ જુઓ તો આમાં અમે નિમિત્ત માત્ર..

પણ મદદ કરનાર સૌ અધિકારીગણ, સ્વજનોનો આભાર.. આપે મદદ ન કરી હોત તો આ બધુ ક્યારેય સંભવ થવાનું નહોતું.

Mittal Patel meets Hansaben 

“Hansaben, will you feed me?”

Hanasaben did not respond to my question, she did not even blink as she kept watching me. 

“She has difficulties with hearing!” Chayaben tells me. 

“Didi is asking will you feed her?” Chayaben repeated my question to Hansaben. 

“Of course. Will feed her Dal-Bhaat and Shaak!” Hansaben gave a gentle smile and responded with a stammer. 

Hansaben wears a very calming smile, it was she stood with us while we talked for about 10 minutes. 

Hansaben, a resident of Rajkot’s Kubaliyapara must have been God’s favourite child, so were her 2 sons. They all begged as means to feed themselves. All three of them intellectually weak, they found difficulties with finding work and bothered the least about the world at large. The sons she had raised on begged food, continued begging as they grew. 

Setting out to beg at the beginning of the day was a daily ritual the trio followed. One day one of her sons did not return home, Hansaben kept searching for him but how would she have conveyed with her speech disability. How would she have convinced herself that her son is gone!? The wound of losing the first son was still fresh and the second son left the nest. The same search followed but in vain…

Hansaben also began forgetting her way back home, for hours she would remain seated at one place. Residents of the settlement would bring her back and leave her at the shanty she called home. 

Along with the fellow residents of Kubliyapara, we applied for a residential plot for Hansaben. The Kubaliyapara residents were allotted a plot at Ramparabeti. When the residents shifted their base to Ramparatbeti they also brought Hansaben along. 

It was difficult to sustain on begging in Ramparabeti as the living condition of the residents is not sound enough to give away food to people in need. We had not known about Hansaben’s existence it was Jeevabhai and Dungarbhai who lead our attention to Hansaben. 

The government assistance for building a decent house was substantiated by our dear Krishnakant Uncle and Indira Auntie, who donated Rs. 1.05 lacs to provide Hansaben with a proper roof over her head. 

The highest priority for Hansaben was ration, under the Maavjat program VSSM began supporting her with a monthly ration kit. The women in the neighbourhood help Hansaben prepare her meals. 

VSSM supports 150 needy elders with ration kits. Many of our well-wishers have chosen to become sponsors of elders in need. It is your support and well-wishes that enables us to meet the needs of thousands of families in need.

 'હંસાબહેન મને જમાડશો?'

મારી વાતનો હંસાબહેને કોઈ પ્રત્યુત્તર ન આપ્યો. એ અનિમેષ નજરે મને જોઈ રહ્યા.. 

અમારા છાયાબહેને મને કહ્યું, 'એમને ઓછુ સંભળાય છે..' એ પછી છાયાબહેને જ કહ્યું, 'દીદી પુછે છે તમે એમને જમાડશો?'

થોડું હસીને થોથવાતી જીભે એમણે કહ્યું, 'હા દાળ ભાત અને બટાકાનું શાક ખવડાવીશ..'

અમે એમની સાથે દસેક મીનીટ ઊભી રહ્યા. અમે ઘણું બોલ્યા ને એ બસ સુંદર સ્મિત સાથે અમારી સામે ઊભા રહ્યા.. હંસાબહેન ભગવાનના માણસ ને એમનું સ્મિત પણ નિજાનંદી. આમ તો તેમના બેય દીકરા પણ તેમના જેવા જ. દુનિયા સાથે આ ત્રણેયને ઝાઝી લેવા દેવા નહીં. 

હંસાબહેન રાજકોટના કુબલિયાપરામાં રહેતા. માનસીક સ્થિતિ નબળી ને કામ કરવાની સુઝ નહીં તે ભીખ માંગીને ખાય. બે દિકરાઓ પણ ભીખમાં માંગેલા ખાવાનાથી જ એમણે મોટા કર્યા. દીકરા પણ મોટા થતા માંગવા જતા. પણ એક દિવસ ઘરેથી નીકળેલા ત્રણેમાંથી મોટો દિકરો ઘરે પરત ન આવ્યો.  

હંસાબહેન થોડા દિવસ રધવાયા ફર્યા પણ ફરિયાદ કોને કરવી.. સરખુ બોલવાનુંયે ન ફાવે ને મન તો ચકળવકળ.. એમણે કેમ કરીને પોતાની જાતને સમાધાન આપ્યું હશે?

હજુ આ ઘા રુઝાયો નહોતો ત્યાં બીજો દિકરોય ચાલ્યો ગયો. હંસાબહેનની આંખોયે એનેય ઘણો શોધ્યો પણ...

બે નિજાનંદી કોણ જાણે કોના સાનિધ્યમાં હશે.. ખેર ઈશ્વરનું સાનિધ્ય તો આ ત્રણેયને હંમેશાં રહેવાનું...

આવા હંસાબહેન હવે ઘરનો રસ્તો ભૂલવા માંડ્યા. જ્યાં બેઠા હોય ત્યાં બેસી રહે. આ તો વસાહતના લોકોમાંથી કોઈ એમને ભાળી જાય તો સાથે તેડતા આવે ને એમના છાપરે જઈ બેસાડે. 

આવા હંસાબહેનને રહેવા પોતાનો પ્લોટ- ઘર મળે તે માટે કુબલિયાપરામાં રહેતા અન્ય પરિવારો સાથે અમે અરજીકરી ને તેમને રામપરા બેટીમાં પ્લોટ મળ્યો. કુબલિયાપરામાંથી સૌ રામપરા રહેવા આવ્યા ને હંસાબહેને પણ સાથે લાવ્યા. રામપરામાં માંગવા જવાય એમ નહોતું.  વિસ્તાર અજાણ્યો. એ બહુ મૂંઝાય. લોકો ખાવાનું આપે પણ બધાની સ્થિતિ એવી સદ્ધર નહીં.. 

અમને હંસાબહેનની સ્થિતિનો ખ્યાલ નહીં પણ જીવાભાઈ, ડુંગરભાઈએ  એ તરફ અમારુ ધ્યાન દોર્યું. 

ઘર બાંધવામાં સરકારના પૈસા ઉપરાંત 1.05 લાખ અમારા ખુબ પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ અને ઈન્દિરા આંટીએ આપ્યા. 

આ સિવાય જેની સૌથી વધુ જરૃર હતી તે રાશન આપવાનું અમે શરૃ કર્યું. આજુબાજુની બહેનોના ટેકાથી એ રાંધીને ખાય છે.

અમે આવા તકલીફમાં હોય ને પોતાનાથી થઈ શકતુ ન હોય તેવા 150  માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે..

ઘણા લોકો આવા માવતરો- વ્યક્તિઓના પાલક બન્યા છે.. આપ સૌની લાગણી અને શુભભાવનાથી આ કાર્યો થાય છે.

આપ સૌને પ્રણામ ને હંસાબહેનને તો કુદરતનું સાનિધ્ય.. એમને તો વહાલ જ કરાય્ ને હા, એક દિવસ એમના હાથનું બટેકાનું શાક ખાવાનું મારે બાકી..

Water, the joy to access this elixir is truly matchless!!

 “Ben, finally we have water at our settlement and  we can now bathe daily. We were always remarked and shooed by people for our body odour, they would keep us at a distance and tell we stink. It was not possible to bathe daily with water fetched from 3-kilometers away. Thankfully, we now  have water running through the tap at the settlement, please come to see it!!”

It will surprise anyone if called to view the sight of taps being installed at settlement. The Saraniya families of Morbi’s Trajpar had been requesting water for years. Despite frequent appeals access to water remained a dream. Every time Kanubhai, Chayaben or I would visit the settlement there was always hue and cry for water.

The Morbi District Collector is a compassionate officer, after we shared with him the plight of these families, his prompt instructions led to the installation of taps at the settlement. The water flows through them for 3 hours a day. Thankfully,  the families can now bathe daily.

It is after meeting such people you realise that bathing daily is a privilege not all can afford.

We are grateful to Morbi District Collector and the respected Chief Minister. It is your compassion that has enabled the resolution of such long-standing issues.

Of course, there was this mandatory photo-op with the tap!!

'અમારી વસાહતમાં પાણી આવ્યું બેન.. અધમણ મેલના ભરેલા અમે હવે રોજ નાઈએ છીએ.. લોકો પહેલાં કહેતા તમારી પાહે બેહીએ તો વાસ આવે. પણ હું કરીએ માથે ઉપાડીને ત્રણ કી.મી.દૂરથી પાણી લાવવાનું એમાં રોજ રોજ નાવાનું આખા ઘરનાને ક્યાંથી પોહાય? પણ બેન હવે અમારી વસાહતમાં નળ આવ્યા તે તમે  નળ જોવા હાલો..'

કોઈ પાણીના નળ જોવા બોલાવે તો નવાઈ તો લાગે જ.. 

મોરબીના ત્રાજપરમાં સરાણિયા પરિવારો વર્ષોથી રહે. પણ પાણીથી એમને ઘણું છેટું. ઘણી રજૂઆતો કરી પણ પાણીનો મેળ ન પડે..

હું અને અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન જ્યારે પણ વસાહતમાં જઈએ કે બહેનો પાણી માટેનું કાંક કરી દ્યોની રામાયણ કરે.

કલેક્ટર શ્રી મોરબી બહુ ઉમદા અધિકારી. એમને આ પરિવારોની સ્થિતિની વાત કરી.. એમણે સૂચના આપી ને થોડા વખતમાં પાણીના નળ નંખાયા.

દિવસમાં ત્રણ કલાક પાણી મળતું થઈ ગયું. હવે આ પરિવારો રોજ નહાય છે.

રોજ નાહવું એય કાંઈ બધાના નસીબમાં નથી હોતું..એ આવા પરિવારોને મળીયે ત્યારે સમજાય.

આભાર કલેક્ટર શ્રી તેમજ મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીનો...

તમારી લાગણીના કારણે વર્ષોથી પડતર પડેલા કાર્યો હવે થવા માંડ્યા છે.

બહેનોએ કહ્યું બેન નળ હારે ફોટો પાડીએ તો એ પાડ્યો..

Mittal Patel with Chaampabhai and his wife Jamnaben Bawri

Chaampabhai and his wife Jamnaben Bawri reside in Rajkot’s Vavdi area in a tethered hut that you see in the image shared here. There is a belief in Gujarati that the cat moves her kittens to seven homes/confines (so that they remain safe from the predators). The cats do so to protect their young, the homeless nomadic and de-notified communities need to be on the constant move because they have no choice. 

Chaampabhai too has moved his shanty to many places, maybe more than any cat would. They are a family of five brothers but none had any identity proof. After coming into contact with VSSM, they were assisted by Kanubhai and Chayaben in obtaining various documents of identity. However, their aspiration has always been to settle down. 

Responding to VSSM’s repeated appeals to the government to provide residential plots to numerous such families in Rajkot, the Chief Minister allotted 116 plots, Chaampabhai and Jamanaben are super happy with this development. The happiness and peace one achieves at the hope of moving into a pucca, decent house radiates on their face.

The families have been allotted plots at Rajkot’s Rampara Beti. The families shared their imagination of how their houses should look-like. Shri Ujamshibhai Khondla, who has always been the expert whose technical advice we seek designed a cost-effective yet charming home to perfectly meet the needs of these families. The design is also sent to our very dear Shri Rashminbhai who shall further advise us on the details we might have missed. VSSM plans to support not just the design aspect of these houses but also the actual construction and if required will assist them with interest-free loans. All of it to enable them to build a house of their dreams. 

VSSM has also written to the government for water connection to the plots where construction shall soon commence. When the water is supplied by the government the families save on the cost they incur on buying water for construction. I happen to visit Ramparabeti recently, the families are planning to move to the allotted plots so that they can provide labour for the construction of their homes. 

I appeal for support towards the construction of these homes, we shall begin with 58 homes in the first phase of construction. 

The families are the first generation homeowners, none of their previous generations has ever lived in a pacca house. The construction of each house will cost approximately Rs. 2.20 lakhs each, the government assistance will be of Rs. 1.40 lakhs for each house while rest of the amount needs to be contributed by the families.

I have always said, helping these poorest of the poor families attain a life of dignity is true religion. When we proclaim to follow ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumba/The world is one family,’ there are these members of our family who need our support, our help. It is only when society supports us, we can continue to support these families. I request you to join hands in this mission.

ચાંપાભાઈ અને તેમના પત્ની જમનાબહેન બાવરી રાજકોટમાં વાવડી વિસ્તારમાં ફોટોમાં દેખાય એમ ઝૂંપ઼ડું બાંધીને રહે.  બિલાડી બચ્ચાને જન્મ આપે પછી બચ્ચાને લઈને સાત ઘર ફરે એવી માન્યતા આપણે ત્યાં પ્રચલિત. પણ બિલાડી તો સ્વેચ્છાએ સાત ઘર ફરે પણ ઘરવિહોણા વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારો તો વખાના માર્યા લબાચા લઈને રઝળ્યા કરે. 

ચાંપાભાઈએ પણ બિલાડી બદલે એના કરતા વધારે જગ્યા પોતાના ઝૂંપડાં માટે બદલી. પરિવારમાં પાંચ ભાઈ પણ આમાંના એકેય પાસે ઓળખનો આધાર નહીં. અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ, છાયાબહેનના સંપર્કમાં આવ્યા પછી ઓળખનો આધાર તો બન્યો પણ ઝંખના હતી કાયમી સરનામાંની - ઠરી ઠામ થવાની..

રાજકોટમાં આવી અસ્થાયી વ્યવસ્થા કરીને રહેતા ઘણા પરિવારોને  સરકાર પ્લોટ ફાળવે એ માટે અમે રજૂઆત કરી ને માનનીય મુખ્યમંત્ર શ્રીના હસ્તે 116 પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા. ચાંપાભાઈ ને જમનાબેન તો રાજી રાજી.. 

હવે ઝટ ઘરવાળા થાશુનો રાજીપો એમને મળી ત્યારે મોંઢા પર વર્તાયો. 

રાજકોટ પાસેના રામપરા બેટીમાં આ પરિવારોને જગ્યા ફાળવાઈ. અમે આ પરિવારોને પુછ્યું કેવું ઘર બાંધવું છે તો બધાએ પોતાની કલ્પના જણાવી એ પ્રમાણે અમારા કાર્યોમાં બાંધકામમાં તકનીકી સહાય કરતા, ખૂબ સેવાભાઈ ઊજમશીભાઈ ખોંદલાને વાત કરી. ને એમણે સરસ ડીઝાઈન આ પરિવારોને ગમે એવી તૈયાર કરી આપી. ડીઝાઈન અમારા રશ્મીનભાઈને મોકલીશું. એમની નજર બહુ ઝીણી અમે ન જોઈ શકીએ એ બધી ચીજ એ જોઈ શકે ને માર્ગદર્શન આપે..ટૂંકમાં ઘરની ડીઝાઈન સિવાય મકાન બાંધકામમાં સહાય પણ કરીશું ને થોડી ઘણી વગર વ્યાજે લોન પણ આપીશું. તાકી આ પરિવારો પોતાની કલ્પના મુજબનું સુંદર ઘર તૈયાર કરી શકે. 

જ્યાં ઘર બાંધવાનું છે તે જગ્યાએ પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા કરવા પણ સરકારમાં લખ્યું છે. જેથી પાણી વેચાતું લાવવું ન પડે ને બાંધકામનો ખર્ચ થોડો ઓછો આવે. રામપરાબેટીમાં ફાળવાયેલી જગ્યા જોવા જવાનું થયું. આ પરિવારો પણ છાપરાં બાંધીને રહેવા આવવાની ગોઠવણ કરી રહ્યા છે. જેથી ઘર બાંધકામમાં પોતે મજૂરી કરી શકે..

આ પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધકામમાં આપને મદદરૃપ થવા અપીલ કરુ છુ...શરૃઆતમાં 58 ઘરો બાંધીશું પછી આગળનું આયોજન.

આ સમુદાયની આ પહેલી પેઢી છે જે પોતાના પાકા ઘરમાં રહેવા જવાની. ઘર બાંધકામનો ખર્ચ અંદાજે રૃા.2.20 લાખ થવાનો. સરકારમાંથી 1.40 મળશે. બાકીની વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવવાની છે. આવા વંચિતોને મદદ કરવી એ ખરો માનવ ધર્મ એવું મારુ માનવું છે. 

વસુંદેવ કુટુંબકમઃ બોલીએ ત્યારે આપણા આ કુટુંબમાં આ પરિવારો પણ છે જેને આપણા ટેકાની જરૃર છે..

Mittal Patel visited devipujak families of Dahisrda village

 8 Devipujak families reside in Dahisrda village in Rajkot’s Paddhari in miserable living conditions. The jute and tarpaulin tucked together makeup as their house. VSSM’s Kanubhai and Chayaben visit them often once after they complained of functioning once the sun goes down. We provided them with solar lanterns along with helping them apply for power connection.

“We don’t need a power connection,” they declared when the officials paid a visit to their settlement.

“Why did you refuse?” we asked.

“What if our hands get stuck in the fan?” they opined. The fear of sustaining injury made them refuse electricity connection to their homes. 

“We can have a table-fan, the power connection you’ll bring light to your hut. The light will help in making the evenings safer and productive.” We explained.

“Oh yes, You are right!” Jagabhai realised his mistake of denying electricity connection.

The families are very naïve and gullible. At times they take up the making alcohol. The Sarpanch and revenue officer are eager to settle these families in the village, provide them with the best available location. But the precondition was that they take up legit means of earning a livelihood and give up all the illegal occupations. The community was worried about the future of the children of these families.

Jagabhai requested for some time and assured to give up unlawful occupations. We have also pledged our support to them.

VSSM has helped these families file applications for allotment of residential plots, but they would never turn up to procure the missing documents. Kanubhai and Chayaben also got tired of this negligent behaviour. I have always maintained that it is VSSM’s moral responsibility to support these families. The educated and informed will always find their way,  but these humans need hand-holding to navigate through the nitty-gritties of life, VSSM should be that person to walk them through.  

The Sarpanch and Revenue Officer of this village are  dedicated and enthusiastic. They requested these families to mend their ways and helped them with their proofs of income. The Sarpanch himself handed the documents to them.

Not all villages offer a red-carpet welcome the nomadic communities, but the Panchayat of Dahisarda is an exception we all need to applaud.  

We hope these families soon have a proper roof over their head, that they move to socially and legally acceptable livelihoods.

Kanubhai and Chayaben persevere tirelessly for the betterment of these families. May God give them strength. We couldn’t be prouder to have them with us.

રાજકોટના પડધરીના દહીસરડાગામમાં 8 વેડુ દેવીપૂજક પરિવારો રહે..

સ્થિતિ દયનીય.. કંતાનની આડાશો કરીને રહે.. અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ ને છાયાબહેન એમની પાસે અવાર નવાર જાય. એક વખતે અંધારામાં ઘણી તકલીફ પડે છે ની ફરિયાદ વસાહતના જગાભાઈએ કરી. સોલાર લાઈટ અમે આપી. સાથે વીજ કનેક્શન માટે અરજી પણ કરી.

વીજ કનેક્શન માટે અધિકારી તપાસમાં ગયા તો અમારે લાઈટ નથી જોઈતું એવું એમણે કહી દીધું, કારણ તપાસ્યું તો ખબર પડી કે અમારા ઝૂંપડામાં પંખો નાખીએ ને ક્યાંક હાથ બાથ આવી જાય તો?

અમે વસાહતમાં ગયા તે વખતે આ બાબતે વાત થઈ અમે કહ્યું, ઝીણી જાળી વાળો ટેબલ પંખો પણ લાવી શકાય ને વળી લાઈટમાં ખાલી પંખો ન હોય. બલ્બ પણ હોય. જેનાથી ઝૂંપડામાં ને બહાર રાતના અજવાળુ રહે..

વાત સાંભળી જગાભાઈ કાન પકડીને એ હાસુ કીધું એવું બોલ્યા. આવા હૃદયના ભોળા વ્યક્તિઓએ વખાના માર્યા ક્યાંક આડા રસ્તા લઈ લીધેલા. દારૃ પણ ગાળવાનું કરી લે.. તે ગામના સરપંચ ને તલાટીએ કહ્યું અમારે આમને ગામમાં સારામાં સારી જગ્યા દેવી છે. પણ આ દારૃને બીજુ બંધ કરે તો. મૂળ તો એમની ચિંતા એમના બાળકો ક્યાંક આ બધુ ન શીખે તેને લઈને હતી.

આખરે જગાભાઈએ કહ્યું એમને વખત આપો અમે બદલાશું. અમે પણ એ માટે જે જોઈએ એ મદદ માટે કહ્યું.

આ પરિવારોને રહેવા પ્લોટ મળે એ માટે કલેક્ટરને અરજી કરેલી પણ ખૂટતાં પુરાવા તેઓ કઢાવવા આવે જ નહીં. કનુભાઈ તો કહે બેન થાકી ગ્યો..

પણ હું હંમેશાં કહુ આ પરિવારોને મદદ કરવી એ આપણો ખરો ધર્મ. સમજે એની પાસે તો સૌ જાય પણ જે નાસમજ છે તેમની પાસે જઈને કાર્ય કરવું એ VSSMનું કામ.

ગામના સરપંચ અને તલાટી બેઉં બહુ ઉત્સાહી એમણે પણ આ પરિવારોને અમારી સાથે કદમ મિલાવવા કહ્યું ને બીજા દિવસે પંચાયતમાં બોલાવીને સૌને આવકના દાખલા સરપંચ શ્રીએ પોતાના હસ્તે આપી દીધા.

વિચરતી જાતિઓના વસવાટ માટે દરેક ગામ લાલ જાજમ પાથરીને તૈયાર નથી હોતું. ત્યારે દહીસરડાના આ પરિવારોને પંચાયત મદદ કરવા ઈચ્છે છે તે સરાહનીય..

બસ આ પરિવારો ઝટ પોતાના ઘરવાળા થાય.. અને સમાજને સ્વીકૃત હોય તેવા કાર્યોમાં લાગી જાય એવું ઈચ્છીએ..

કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેનને દાદ દેવી પડે.. થાક્યા વગર લાગ્યા છે.. ઈશ્વર એમને વધુ તાકાત આપે...
