On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, as Bhishma Pitamah lay upon his bed of arrows, Yudhishthira asked him, “Grandfather, what is the noblest deed in this world?” Bhishma replied with profound wisdom, “The greatest virtue is to undertake work that nourishes Mother Earth and provides sustenance to thousands of living beings. Such work is the work of water conservation.”

In earlier times, prosperous and wealthy people built ponds, lakes, and stepwells. They regarded these efforts as their highest duty and a true expression of compassion toward all forms of life.

Today, while we generously support causes that benefit people, we often overlook the countless other creatures that share this planet with us. Helping fellow human beings is important, but we must also remember our responsibility toward nature and all living beings.

When we feed a hungry person, they may thank us. But an ant, a turtle, a bird, or a rabbit cannot express their gratitude in words. Perhaps that is why efforts that benefit nature and wildlife often receive less attention.

Tulsidas beautifully wrote in the Ramcharitmanas:

“Par hit saris dharma nahi bhai”

There is no religion greater than working for the welfare of others.

The true challenge lies in understanding this wisdom and putting it into practice.

Inspired by this eternal truth, VSSM has been carrying out water conservation and tree plantation initiatives for many years. So far, we have deepened 456 village ponds, creating storage capacity for billions of liters of water. These water bodies have become a source of life and relief for countless animals, birds, and farming families.

Several villages in Dahegam Taluka of Gandhinagar district are facing severe water scarcity. Groundwater levels have declined drastically. To address this challenge, we have set a goal of deepening 20 village ponds this year. Work has already begun on a Jal Mandir (Water Temple) in Anguthala village.

This project is being made possible through a small contribution from the Government of Gujarat’s Sujalam Sufalam Scheme, generous financial support from our respected donor Ullasbhai Paymaster, and the cooperation of local villagers who are helping remove the excavated soil. It is truly a collective effort.

This pond will not only harvest rainwater but will also receive water from Ma Reva—the sacred Narmada River. As a result, it will remain filled throughout the year and bring transformative change to the village.

If every village resolves to maintain and preserve its own ponds by mobilizing local resources and community contributions, there would be no need to wait for support from organizations or government agencies.

People like Ullasbhai understand that where there is water, there is life, and where there is life, there is true service and true dharma. We are deeply grateful for their support.

May God grant all of us the wisdom and inspiration to participate in this noble, life-giving mission. Water conservation is not merely an environmental effort—it is an act of compassion, a service to all living beings, and one of the highest forms of dharma.

કુરુક્ષેત્રના રણમેદાનમાં જ્યારે ભીષ્મ પિતામહ બાણશૈયા પર સૂતા હતા, ત્યારે યુધિષ્ઠિરે પૂછ્યું, “પિતામહ, આ જગતમાં સૌથી શ્રેષ્ઠ કર્મ કયું?” પિતામહે ગહન જવાબ આપતા કહ્યું, “જે કર્મ હજારો જીવોને તૃપ્તિ આપે, આપણી આ ધરતી માને પોષણ આપે, તેવું ‘જળનું કાર્ય’ કરવું એ સૌથી મોટું પુણ્યકર્મ”

પહેલાના સમયમાં સુખી-સંપન્ન લોકો તળાવો ગળાવતા, વાવ બંધાવતા. એ બધા આને સાચો ધર્મ માનતા. આમ તો એમની તમામ જીવસૃષ્ટિ પ્રત્યે આ સંવેદના. આજે આપણે દાન કરીએ છીએ, પણ ઘણીવાર તેમાં સમજણનો અભાવ દેખાય. આપણે માણસોના કાર્યો માટે દોડીને મદદ કરીએ. કરવી પણ જોઈએ, એમાં મારી ના નથી. પણ માત્ર મનુષ્ય કલ્યાણમાં મોખરે રહેનાર આપણે આ ધરતી પર અન્ય જીવો છે એને કેમ ભૂલી જઈએ છીએ.

કદાચ કોઈ ભૂખ્યાની આંતરડી ઠારીએ તો એ આભાર કહેશે. પણ કીડી, કાચબો કે સસલું એના માટે કરેલા શુભકાર્યને લઈને આપણને બોલીને આભાર નથી કહેતા કદાચ એટલે એમના કલ્યાણના કાર્યોમાં આપણને ઓછો રસ પડે છે?

તુલસીદાસજીએ રામચરિતમાનસમાં સુંદર વાત કહી છે, “પર હિત સરિસ ધર્મ નહિ ભાઈ |” એટલે કે બીજાના હિત જેવો કોઈ મોટો ધર્મ નથી. પણ આ બધુ સમજી વ્યવહારમાં ઉતારવું અગત્યનું.

VSSM આ શાશ્વત સત્યને પકડીને વર્ષોથી જળસંચય અને વૃક્ષારોપણનું કાર્ય કરે, અત્યાર સુધીમાં 456 જેટલા તળાવો ઊંડા કર્યા છે. જેમાં અબજો લીટર પાણીનો સંગ્રહ થયો છે. જે લાખો જીવો અને ખેડૂતોને સાતા આપે છે.

ગાંધીનગરના દહેગામ તાલુકાના ઘણા ગામોમાં પણ જળની સ્થિતિ કપરી. ભૂગર્ભજળ ખૂબ નીચે ગયા છે, આવા ગામોના 20 તળાવો આ વર્ષે ઊંડા કરવાનું લક્ષ્ય છે. જેમાંના અંગૂથલા ગામમાં જલમંદિરનું કાર્ય અમે આરંભ્યું.

સરકારશ્રીની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજનાનો નાનકડો ટેકો. અમારા આદરણીય ઉલ્લાસભાઈ પેમાસ્ટરની મોટી આર્થિક મદદ ને માટી ઉપાડવા ગામનો સહયોગ આમ સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી આ કાર્ય થઈ રહ્યું છે.

આ તળાવમાં હવે માત્ર વરસાદનું જ નહીં, પણ ‘મા રેવા’ (નર્મદા) ના નીર પણ આવશે. જેનાથી આખું વર્ષ તળાવ ભરેલું રહેશે ને ગામની કાયાપલટ થશે.

જો દરેક ગામ પોતે સંકલ્પ કરે ને ગામના જ લોકો ભેગા મળીને અનુદાન એકત્રિત કરી પોતાના ગામના તળાવોને કાયમ સાબદા રાખવાનું કરે તો અમારા જેવી કોઈ સંસ્થા કે સરકારની રાહ જોવી નહીં પડે. ઉલ્લાસભાઈ જેવા અનેક સ્વજનો જ્યાં જળ છે, ત્યાં જ જીવન છે ને ત્યાં જ સાચો ધર્મ છે એવું માને છે એટલે આવા કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરે છે. એમના અમે આભારી છીએ.

ઈશ્વર સૌને આ ભગીરથ કાર્યમાં જોડાવવાની સન્મતિ આપે એ જ પ્રાર્થના.

One Recharge Structure, Endless Benefits...

“We readily spend ₹50,000 on a mobile phone or a washing machine, but we hesitate to do work that is truly important. If a farmer builds a borewell recharge structure, the expense can be recovered within just one year — yet many are still unwilling to do it.”

These words were shared by village leaders T. P. Rajput and Ramabhai Rajput from Lavana.

In many ways, what they say is true.

When borewell technology first arrived, the first borewells were around 150 feet deep. Within a few years, those borewells ran dry, and farmers drilled new ones at 400 feet. Had they started recharging the abandoned borewells at that very time, today they would not have to dig 1,000 or even 1,200 feet deep for water. They would not face failed borewells, spend ₹8–10 lakh on new drilling, or have to add two or three extra pipe columns every year to chase falling water levels.

Sometimes it feels that while we think far ahead in securing our children’s future financially, we forgot one crucial thing — saving water and planning for it sustainably. Because of this neglect, groundwater conditions have worsened, and along with it, the condition of farmers too.

At VSSM, we have been carrying out water conservation work across North Gujarat for many years. Deepening ponds — what we call “Jal Mandirs” — has been one of our continuous efforts. So far, 380 ponds have been restored and deepened.

Now, with the support of Parikh Foundation, we have also started work on recharging abandoned borewells belonging to farmers.

If a farmer’s unused borewell is recharged and the monsoon is reasonably good, the benefit becomes directly visible within the very first season. In that sense, farmers should ideally take up this work voluntarily. Moreover, the cost is not extraordinarily high. Yet awareness among farmers is still limited.

Together with farmers and the support of the Parikh Foundation, we have decided to recharge more than 500 borewells. Structures for recharging more than 150 abandoned borewells have already been prepared.

Our hope is that farmers themselves begin adopting this work independently. We are making efforts to encourage at least 100 farmers to take initiative on their own — and we are confident this will happen.

The cost of constructing a borewell recharge system — around ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 — is not an unmanageable amount. By spending this, farmers can avoid the recurring expense of adding extra pipe columns every year as groundwater levels fall. In addition, crop yields will also improve.

Even if every farmer recharges just one borewell, the deteriorating groundwater situation of North Gujarat can begin to improve.

In Banaskantha’s Lavana village, a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony was performed before beginning the recharge structure for a farmer’s abandoned borewell. We hope such ceremonies become common in every farmer’s home.

બનાસકાંઠાના લવાણાગામના આગેવાન ટી.પી. રાજપૂત અને રામાભાઈ રાજપૂતે આ વિગત જણાવી. 

એક રીતે બેઉંની વાત સાચી. બોરવેલની ટેકનોલોજી આવી ને પહેલો બોરવેલ 150 ફૂટનો બન્યો. બે ચાર વર્ષમાં એ બારવેલમાં જળખૂટયા ને ખેડૂતે 400 ફૂટનો નવો બોરવેલ બનાવ્યો. આ નવો બોરવેલ બનાવ્યો એ વખતે જ બંધ પડેલા બોરવેને રીચાર્જ કરવાનું શરૃ કર્યું હોત તો એમને આજે 1000 કે 1200 ફૂટથી પાણી મેળવવું પડે અથવા બોરવેલ ફેઈલ જાય ને નવો બોર કરવા આઠ દસ લાખનો ખર્ચ કરવો પડે કે દર વર્ષે બે કે ત્રણ કોલમ ચાલુ બોરવેલમાં ઉતારવી પડે તે ન ઉતારવી પડત.

ક્યારેક થાય આપણી દીર્ઘ દૃષ્ટિ તો ઘણી. આપણે આપણા બાળકોનું ભવિષ્ય સુરક્ષીત બનાવવા માટે કેટલું બધુ ભેગુ કરીએ. પણ ખરેખર એ બચતની સાથે સાથે જળની બચત કરવાનું ને એમાં લાંબાગાળાનું આયોજન આપણે ભૂલ્યા. જેના કારણે ભૂગર્ભજળની દશા માઠી થઈને સાથે સાથે ખેડૂતોની પણ..

અમે ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં જળસંચયના કાર્યો કરીએ. જલમંદિર એટલે કે તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું કાર્ય તો વર્ષોથી ચાલે. 380 તળાવો અત્યાર સુધી ઊંડા કર્યા. તળાવની સાથે સાથે પરીખ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી હવે ખેડૂતોના બંધ પડેલા બોરવેલ રીચાર્જનું કાર્ય પણ આરંભ્યું.

આમ તો જે ખેડૂતનો બંધ પડેલો બોરવેલ રીચાર્જ થાય ને પહેલા ચોમાસે સરખો વરસાદ થાય તો ખેડૂતને એનો સીધો લાભ દેખાય. એ રીતે જોઈએ તો ખેડૂતે સ્વંયભૂ આ કાર્ય કરવું જોઈએ. વળી એ કરવામાં કાંઈ મસમોટા ખર્ચા પણ નથી. પણ આપણે ત્યાં દરેક ખેડૂત એ માટે જાગૃત નથી.

અમે ખેડૂત અને પરીખ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી 500 થી વધારે બોરવેલ રીચાર્જ કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું છે ને દોઢસો ઉપરાંત બંધ પડેલા બોરવેલને રીચાર્જ કરવાના સ્ટ્રક્ચર તૈયાર થઈ ગયા છે.

અમને આશા ખેડૂતો આ કાર્ય પોતાની મેળે કરાવતા થાય એવી છે. જો કે 100 ખેડૂતો એ માટે તૈયાર થાય એવા પ્રયત્નો અમારા છે ને એ થશે એવી ખાત્રી પણ છે.

પણ બોરવેલ રીચાર્જ માટે થનાર ખર્ચ  25,000 થી 30,000 એ કાંઈ બહુ મોટી રકમ નથી. ખેડૂત આ રકમ ખર્ચ કરશે તો દર વર્ષે બોરવેલમાં પાણી ઊંડા જાય ત્યારે કોલમ ઉતારીએ તે ખરીદવી નહીં પડે. એ ઉપરાંત પાક પણ સારો થશે.

ખેર દરેક ખેડૂત પોતાનો એક બોરવેલ રીચાર્જ કરે તો પણ ઉત્તર ગુજરાતની ભૂગર્ભજળની વણસી ગયેલી સ્થિતિ થોડી સરખી થશે.

From Borewells to Ponds: Ensuring Water Security in Soni...

Soni Village in Banaskantha – a village with 100% irrigated farming.

The village has around 400 borewells, and for the past 15 years, water has been available at a depth of 1,000 feet. Ashwinbhai from Soni Village has always stood firmly with our efforts. When we saw the situation, we decided to deepen the village ponds. VSSM constructed three ponds in the village.

These ponds were deepened with the help of the Mahendra Brother Parikh Foundation. When the ponds were completed, our enthusiasm was so high that we visited them even in the heavy rains to see the results.

To see the ponds, the entire team from the Mahendra Brother Parikh Foundation, along with members from Mumbai, came and understood firsthand the village’s condition during rainfall and why rain is so crucial.

We pray that God always allows us to be part of such noble work.

સોની ગામના અશ્વિનભાઈ અમારા કાર્યોમાં હંમેશ ખડે પગે રહે આ સ્થિતિ જયારે અમે જોઈ ત્યારે અમે આ ગામમાં તળાવ ઊંડા કરવાનું વિચાર્યું. ગામમાં ૩ તળાવ VSSM એ બનાવ્યા

આ તળાવ મહેન્દ્ર બ્રધર પરીખ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી ઊંડું કર્યું. જયારે આ તળાવ બન્યું એટલે અમારો ઉત્સાહ પણ એવો કે અમે આ તળાવ જોવા વરસતા વરસાદે પણ મળ્યા. 

આ તળાવ જોવા માટે મહેન્દ્ર બ્રધર પરીખ ફાઉન્ડેશનમાંથી આખી ટીમ આવી મુંબઈથી આવેલા સભ્યોએ પણ વરસાદમાં શું હાલત હોય અને વરસાદ કેમ જરૂરી છે તે પણ સમજ્યા.

 VardhanaMuwada village in , Gandhinagar district, has long struggled with water scarcity. Through the efforts of VSSM, the village pond was deepened, and today it is brimming with rainwater and water from the Narmada River.

The villagers came together to celebrate and joyfully welcomed the water. Along with the water, hope, prosperity, and new possibilities for the future have also arrived in the village. 💧🌾

વર્ધાના મુવાડા ગાંધીનગરનું ગામ. પાણી માટે બહુ સંઘર્ષ કર્યો. VSSM થકી તળાવ ઊંડું કર્યું તે તળાવ વરસાદ અને નર્મદાના નીરથી ભરાયું. ગામ લોકો સાથે વધામણાં કરી નીરને આવકાર્યું.

A pond is not merely a vessel to hold water — it is a lifeline for countless living beings. Indeed, the underbelly of a village also remains alive and vibrant only when the pond is full. We all believed this before technology took hold of our lives. However, once we discovered an easy and accessible solution to extract water from underground, we began to overlook the importance of ponds.

However, since ponds are the very foundation of the ecosystem, we began several years ago, the work of restoring these vital village waterbodies — the heart of the community. So far, we have rejuvenated 376 ponds, which we refer to as *Jal Mandir* (Water Temples). Our goal is to restore 1,000 such *Jal Mandirs* in the coming years.

Mojaru is a beautiful village in the old Banaskantha district. There, we deepened the village pond with the support of the government’s Sujalam Sufalam scheme and the respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff and the Dr. K.R. Shroff Foundation. In the next year or so, water from Maa Reva-Narmada is expected to reach this pond. Hence, we have prepared the pond to be capable of storing that water. The area’s MLA, Keshaji Chauhan, has made dedicated efforts to bring Reva’s waters to the region's ponds. To ensure that rainwater properly flows into the pond, we also thoroughly cleaned the water channels. We now hope for generous blessings from the rain gods.

Groundwater in the village has sunk to unimaginable depths. Borewells are no longer yielding sufficient water — because the aquifers are empty. When ponds fill, farmers will be able to irrigate directly from them. And when water seeps into the ground, the water table will rise again.

Our team members — Naranbhai, Jayeshbhai, Ratnabhai, Hareshbhai, Jorabhai, and others — remain actively involved in water and environmental initiatives, which makes this work possible. We take great pride in having such committed partners.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to the government and to Pratulbhai — it is thanks to their dedication that this mission has come to fruition. We invite everyone to join in this effort that is being carried out with the pure intent of collective well-being.

તળાવ પાણી ભરવાનું વાસણ માત્ર નથી પણ એ અનેક જીવોને ધબકતા રાખવાનું માધ્યમ. અલબત ગામનું પેટાળ પણ તળાવ પાણીથી ભરાયેલું રહે તો જ ચેતનવંતુ રહે. આ વાત ટેકનોલોજીએ આપણા જીવનમાં સ્થાન નહોતું લીધુ ત્યાં સુધી આપણે સૌ માનતા. પણ પેટાળમાંથી પાણી કાઢવાનો સરળ, હાથવગો ઉકેલ મળ્યો ને આપણે તળાવના મહત્વને ભૂલ્યા.

પણ તળા સમગ્ર જીવસૃષ્ટિનો આધાર એટલે અમે પાછલા કેટલાક વર્ષોથી ગામનું હૃદય એવા તળાવોના જીર્ણોદ્ધારનું કાર્ય આરંભ્યું.

376 તળાવ જેને અમે જલમંદિર કહીએ એનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર અત્યાર સુધી કર્યો. આવનારા વર્ષોમાં 1000 જલમંદિરના જીર્ણોદ્ધારનો સંકલ્પ.

મોજરુ જુના બનાસકાંઠાનું મજાનું ગામ. ત્યાંનું તળાવ અમે સરકારની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજના તેમજ અમારા આદરણીય શ્રી પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ ડો. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી ઊંડુ કર્યું. આ તળાવમાં આવનારા એકાદ દોઢ વર્ષમાં મા રેવા- નર્મદાના નીર આવવાના છે. એટલે નીરને ધારણ કરી શકે એવું તળાવ કર્યું. આ વિસ્તારના ધારાસભ્ય કેશાજી ચૌહાણની મહેનત પોતાના વિસ્તારના તળાવોમાં મા રેવાના પાણી આવે તે માટે જબરી.

વરસાદી પાણી તળાવમાં બરાબર આવે તે માટે અમે આવરા પણ બરાબર સાફ કર્યા છે. મેઘરાજા મહેર કરશે એવી આશા છે.

ગામના ભૂગર્ભજળ કલ્પના ન કરી શકાય એટલા ઊંડા પહોંચ્યા છે. બોરવેલ યોગ્ય માત્રમાં પાણી નથી કાઢી રહ્યા કારણ તળ ખાલી છે. તળાવ ભરાશે તો ખેડૂતો તળાવમાંથી પણ પિયત કરી શકશે. ને પાણી પેટાળમાં જશે તો તળ પણ ઉપર આવશે.

અમારા કાર્યકરો નારણભાઈ, જયેશભાઈ, રત્નભાઈ, હરેશભાઈ, જોરાભાઈ વગેરે સૌ પાણી અને પર્યાવરણના કાર્યોમાં સતત સક્રિય છે એટલે આ કાર્ય થાય છે. આવા સાથીદારો સાથે હોવાનો ગર્વ.

બસ સૌનું ભલું થાય એવી શુભભાવનાથી થઈ રહેલા આ કાર્યમાં સૌ જોડાય તેવી શુભભાવના.

Yogakshem refers to two important concepts: "yog," which is the attainment of what has not yet been achieved, and "kshem," which involves protecting what has already been attained. Both actions are essential for a fulfilling life. We must strive to gain what we lack while also ensuring that what we have is safeguarded.

You might wonder why I'm discussing Yogakshem today, but it is crucial to do so. The condition of our lakes - Jal Mandirs has deteriorated significantly, which should never have happened. Our ancestors built lakes, wells, and stepwells to ensure everyone had access to water. While the world has advanced and we have developed new technologies for easier access to water, we have neglected these traditional resources that served us for centuries.

The Jal Mandirs, or lakes, were meant to be preserved, and it was our responsibility to protect them. Unfortunately, we did not fulfill our duty, leading to critically low groundwater levels.

In response to this situation, we have decided to rejuvenate these Jal Mandirs. So far, 336 Jal Mandirs have been revitalized through the efforts of well-wishers associated with VSSM and the Vimukt Foundation.

This year, we have set a target to renovate 50 lakes. Additionally, we have included Satlasana in our water conservation projects in North Gujarat.

Kothasana is a resourceful village where we worked to deepen the lake with the assistance of the respected Chandravadanbhai Shantilal Shah. Villagers actively participated by removing soil from the lake. The efforts made by the villagers and well-wishers affiliated with our organization will benefit many residents.

 યોગક્ષેમ- જે મળ્યું નથી તેની પ્રાપ્તિ એટલે ‘યોગ’ અને જે મળ્યું છે તેનું રક્ષણ કરવું તે ‘ક્ષેમ’. જીવનમાં આ બે ક્રિયા આપણે સતત કરવાની. જે મળ્યું નથી તે મેળવવા મથવાનું ને મળ્યું છે તે છિનવાઈ ન જાય તેની કાળજી રાખવાની.

તમને થશે આ આજે કેમ યોગક્ષેમની વાત કરે છે?

પણ વાત પડે તેવી છે. જલ મંદિરોની આજે જે દશા થઈ છે એ દશા કોઈ કાળે ન થવી જોઈએ. આપણા વડવાઓએ સમગ્ર જીવસૃષ્ટિ જળ મેળવી શકે તે માટે તળાવો, વાવ, કૂવાઓનું નિર્માણ કર્યું. દુનિયા વિકસી અને આપણને પાણી સરળતાથી મળી શકે તેવા સાધનો ઉપલબ્ધ થયા એટલે આપણી પાસે સદીઓથી જે વ્યવસ્થાઓ હતી તે આપણે ભૂલ્યા.

પણ જલમંદિરો ને ભૂલવાના નહોતા. એના રક્ષણની જવાબદારી હતી. જે બરાબર ન નિભાવી એટલે આપણા ભૂગર્ભજળ ઊંડે પહોંચ્યા.

અમે આવા જલમંદિરોનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. અત્યાર સુધી 336 જલ મંદિરોનું નિર્માણ VSSM અને વિમુક્ત ફાઉન્ડેશન સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત કર્યું. 

આ વર્ષે પણ 50 તળાવોના નવીનીકરણનો લક્ષાંક નિર્ધારીત કર્યો. ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં થઈ રહેલા જળસંચયના કાર્યોમાં આ વર્ષે સતલાસણાનો ઉમેરો થયો. 

કોઠાસણા મજાનું ગામ. ત્યાં અમે તળાવ ઊંડું કરવાનું કામ આદરણીય ચંદ્રવદનભાઈ શાંતિલાલ શાહની મદદથી કર્યું. 

ગામલોકોએ માટી ઉપાડવાનું કર્યું. ગામ અને સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત થયેલા આ કામથી ગામના અનેકોને ફાયદો થશે.

The people of village Padardi regretted not filtering and deepening the lake every year, especially after seeing how it had become as shallow as a saucer. If they had maintained the lake regularly, it wouldn't have required a significant amount of money to restore it. Now, however, a large sum of money is needed to restore the lake, which, for them, is a "Jalmandir."

Kakar village is located next to Padardi in Banaskantha, where families of florists reside. We strive to support the welfare of these families. Whenever we visit Banaskantha, we stay in Kakar, which is why Paadardi has caught our attention during our travels back and forth.

The people of Paadardi are aware that we rejuvenate lakes and transform them into Jalmandirs. They requested our help to deepen their village lakes. With the assistance of the GIA organization, we worked on deepening the lakes located on the village border. As a result, water from the river Maa Reva-Narmada flowed in, filling the entire lakes to the brim.

In Paadardi village, the water level has dropped to between 1,000 and 1,100 feet deep, causing five to ten borewells to fail each year. Given this situation, recharging the lakes solely with monsoon water seemed impossible. However, the government supported the villagers through the Maa Narmada initiative. Two lakes, excavated with the assistance of VSSM and the Vimukta Foundation, were successfully filled with water. As a result, farmers will no longer need to lift water from a depth of a thousand feet. Traditionally, seventy to eighty horsepower motors have been required to operate borewells. However, only a five-horsepower motor is needed to run a machine placed in a lake to draw water for irrigation.

The reduction in electricity bills is a notable benefit. Additionally, the wells in the surrounding area are being recharged thanks to the water that percolates through the bottoms of the lakes. These lakes benefit not only the farmers of Padardi village but also those from neighborhood village of Nikoi.

Seeing the filled lakes, the eyes of many farmers in the village fill with tears. The villagers say, "If the lake was not dug, the billions of liters of water that have been filled with it today, would not have been filled."

When the Jalmandir is filled with water, it not only supports the lives of farmers but also brings happiness to all living beings in the surroundiing world!

Thanks to you, GIA,  and the support of many well-wishers like you, we have successfully rejuvenated 325 lakes so far.

We are committed to rejuvenating 1,000 Jalmandirs, and we pray to God to help us achieve this noble, divine goal.

કોઈ કહે અવસર આવ્યો,

ગામના છીછરી રકાબી જેવા થઈ ગયેલા તળાવો જોઈને દર વર્ષે તળાવ ગાળવાનું કેમ ન કર્યું એવો અફસોસ પાદરડીગામના સૌને થયો. જો દર વર્ષે તળાવ ગાળ્યું હોત તો બહુ મોટો ખર્ચો ન થાત. પણ રકાબી જેવા આમ તો એક હતું તળાવ એવી સ્થિતિએ પહોંચેલું તળાવ - જલમંદિર ગાળવા લાખો રૃપિયા જોઈએ. 

બનાસકાંઠાના પાદરડીની બાજુમાં કાકર ગામ ત્યાં ફૂલવાદી પરિવારો રહે. અમે આ પરિવારોના કલ્યાણના કામોમાં નિમિત્ત બનીએ. આમ તો બનાસકાંઠા હોઈએ ત્યારે રોકાણ પર કાકરમા. એટલે પાદરડી તો જતા આવતા ધ્યાને આવે. 

જલમંદિરના નિર્માણનું કાર્ય અમે કરીએ એવી પાદરડી વાસીઓને ખબર એટલે એમણે પોતાના ગામના તળાવોને ઊંડા કરવા વિનંતી કરી. ગામની સીમમાં આવેલું તળાવ અમે GIA સંસ્થાની મદદથી ઊંડુ કર્યું. આ ઊંડા કરેલા તળાવમાં મા રેવા- નર્મદાનું પાણી આવ્યું ને આખુ તળાવ સરસ ભરાયું.

પાદરડી ગામમાં પાણીના તળ 1000 થી 1100 ફૂટે પહોંચ્યા. દર વર્ષે પાંચ - દસ બોરવેલ ફેઈલ થઈ જાય. આવી સ્થિતિમાં માત્ર ચોમાસાના પાણીથી તળ રીચાર્જ થાય એ અસંભવ લાગતું હતું. પણ સરકાર મા નર્મદાના માધ્યમથી ગામલોકોની વહારે આવી અને VSSM, વિુમક્ત ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી ખોદેલા બેય તળાવો સરસ ભરાયા. જેના કારણે ખેડૂતોને હવે હજાર ફૂટથી પાણી ઉલેચવા નહીં પડે. બોરવેલમાં સીત્તેર એંસી હોર્સ પાવરની મોટર ચાલે. પણ તળાવમાં મશીન મુકી પાંચ હોર્સ પાવરની મોટરથી સિંચાઈ માટે પાણી લઈ જઈ શકાય છે.

વીજબીલમાં પણ ફાયદો થયો. વળી તળ પણ તળાવો ભરાવના કારણે રીચાર્જ થઈ રહ્યા છે. પાછુ આ તળાવ ભરાવવાથી માત્ર પાદરડી નહીં પણ નેકોઈ ગામના ખેડૂતોને પણ ફાયદો થયો.

ભરાયેલા તળાવ જોઈને ગામના અનેક ખેડૂતોની આંખમાં ઝળઝળિયા આવી જાય છે. ગામલોકો કહે છે, "જો તળાવ ખોદાયું ન હોત તો આજે જે કરોડો લીટર પાણી એમાં ભરાયું છે એ ન ભરાયું હોત."

જલમંદિરોમાં પાણી ભરાય તો ખેડૂતની સાથે સાથે સમગ્ર જીવ સૃષ્ટિ પણ રાજી...

આભાર GIA તમારા જેવા અનેક સ્વજનોની મદદથી આજે 325 તળાવોના નવીનીકરણ માં અમે નિમિત્ત બની શક્યા છીએ એનો રાજીપો.

 When the third lake is ready, the borewells will cease to exist in this village. We will become the first village in Banaskantha without a borewell. How wonderful !

This is the story of village Raviyana in Banaskantha. Our favourite village. This village has about 250 houses. Farming & animal husbandry are the main occupation of the villagers in this village. Heavy use of borewells in the past years have lowered the water levels.

About 5 years ago we had received a request to help in desilting the lake. We asked the villagers to become partners in the venture. They collected a reasonably good sum of money and also helped in the lifting of the mud which was excavated from the lake. With this the lake got deeper. 

Along with the rain water, the pipeline for Narmada was also connected to the lake. With this the lake  started getting filled even during the non monsoon period. 

In Raviyana about 100 borewells that are 1000 feet deep are functioning. Water is found at about 700 feet. If the lake was not desilted 5 years ago, even the Narmada pipeline would not have benefited the village. Due to desilting, the capacity of the lake to store water increased by crores of litres & the level of water at 700 feet was maintained. Farmers do not have to put new columns and also from the lake the water is directly used in the farms by putting the motor. The power bills have also been greatly reduced. Lifting of water from the depth has also stopped.

On seeing the benefits of desilting of one lake, in partnership with the village we did the second lake and now there is a request to do a third one.

We requested crowd funding from villagers. We explained that this would help us to dig more soil and increase the capacity of the lake.After much hesitation they all agreed. 

The village senior Umedbhai requested for the third lake. He said that" if we get the third lake, our village will not need Borewells. A time will come when we will manage our lives without Borewells. 

For the third lake,  we got help from respected Shri Ashishbhai Mehta- Rajabhai ( M/s Kantilal Chhotalal) . We are thankful for the same. It is because of well wishers like Shri Ashishbhai that we have been able to desilt 265 lakes for which we are extremely happy. We are obliged to all our well wishers & supporters who standby us in all our work.

'ત્રીજુ તળાવ ખોદાઈ જાય તો ભવિષ્યમાં બોરવેલની સ્મશાનયાત્રા કાઢનારુ બનાસકાંઠાનું અમે પ્રથમ ગામ બનીશું..'

કેવી મજાની વાત. બોરવેલની સ્મશાન યાત્રા એટલે બોરવેલને ગામમાંથી સંપૂર્ણ તીલાંજલી. 

વાત બનાસકાંઠાના રવિયાણાગામની. અમારુ ગમતીલું ગામ.. ગામમાં લગભગ 250 ઘરની વસતિ. ખેતી અને પશુપાલન ગામનો મુખ્ય વ્યવસાય. પાણીના તળ પાછલા વર્ષોમાં બોરવેલમાંથી સતત ઉલેચાવાના કારણે નીચે ગયા.

લગભગ પાંચેક વર્ષ પહેલાં ગામે અમને ગામનું તળાવ જે છીછરુ હતું તેને ઊંડુ કરવા મદદ કરવા વિનંતી કરી. અમે ભાગીદારીની વાત કરી. ગામે પણ સારો એવો ફાળો ભેગો કર્યો. એ ઉપરાંત માટી પણ ઉપાડી ને એમ કરીને ગામનું મુખ્ય તળાવ ઊંડુ થયું. વરસાદી પાણીની સાથે સાથે નર્મદા પાઈપલાઈન સાથે પણ સરકારે એને જોડ્યું. એટલે ચોમાસા સિવાય પણ તળાવ ભરાવા માંડ્યું. 

રવિયાણામાં 1000 ફૂટના 100 ઉપરાંત બોરવેલ ચાલે. પાણી 700 ફૂટે મળે. પણ પાંચ વર્ષ પહેલાં તળાવ ખોદાયું ન હોત તો નર્મદાની પાઈપલાઈનથી પણ ઈચ્છીત ફાયદો થયો ન હોત. તળાવ ખોદાવવાના લીધે પાણી ભરાવવાની ક્ષમતા તળાવની કરોડો લીટરની વધી. જેના લીધે પાણીના તળ 700 ફૂટે જળવાઈ રહ્યા છે. ખેડૂતોએ બોરવેલમાં નવી કોલમ ઉતારવી નથી પડતી. વળી તળાવમાં સીધી મોટર મુકીને પણ ખેડૂતો ખેતરમાં પિયત કરી રહ્યા છે. લાઈટબીલમાં પણ સખત ફાયદો  થયો અને ભૂગર્ભમાંથી પાણી ઉલેચાવાનું પણ બંધ થયું. 

એક તળાવથી થયેલા ફાયદા પછી અમે ગામનું બીજુ તળાવ ગામની ભાગીદારીથી VSSMએ પાછુ ખોદ્યું. અને ગામે હવે ત્રીજુ તળાવ કરવા અમને વિનંતી કરી. 

અમે લોકફાળો કરવા વિનંતી કરી. માટી ઉપાડવા ઉપરાંત લોકફાળો કરશો તો તળાવ વધારે ઊંડુ થશેનું કહ્યું ને સૌ થોડી આનાકાની વચ્ચે સહમત થયા.

પણ ગામના આગેવાન ઉમેદભાઈ તેમજ યુવા સરપંચ રસીકભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'જો અમારુ આ ત્રીજુ તળાવ ખોદાઈ જાય તો અમારા ગામમાં અમારે બોરવેલ ચલાવવો નહીં પડે.. સ્મશાન યાત્રા એની કાઢી શકાય એવો સમય આવી જશે..'

ત્રીજુ તળાવ ખોદવા માટે આદરણીય આશીશભાઈ મહેતા - રાજાભાઈ (મેસર્સ કાન્તીલાલ છોટાલાલ) એ મદદ કરી એ માટે એમના ઘણા આભારી છીએ.. VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા આશિશભાઈ જેવા સ્વજનોના લીધે અમે પાછલા સાત વર્ષમાં 265 તળાવો ઊંડા કરી શક્યા છીએ જેનો વિશેષ આનંદ છે.. VSSM ના કામોમાં મદદ કરતા સૌ સ્વજનો પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા... અને બનાસકાંઠામાં જળસંચયના કામો કરતી અમારી ટીમ નારણભાઈ, મહેશભાઈ, જોરાભાઈની કર્મઠતાને સલામ..

Raindrops get a sense of freedom from the clouds as they fall as rain on mother earth. Who doesn't like freedom ? Their freedom is temporary as we catch & confine them in our lakes.  We catch it for our benefit. It sounds a bit philosophical but it's nice.

We built lakes for our benefit. However, in this technological age the importance of lakes have reduced. In old days lakes/ponds were the heart of the village. All activities like bathing, washing clothes & vessels, water for animals etc used to take place at the lakes.

Then borewell came & water through pipes came into the tap of everyone's homes. Importance of lakes/ponds in the lives of people considerably reduced.

However to keep the water level from receding down lakes are important.

But we forgot the importance of lakes/ponds and today the water levels have fallen from 800feet to 12000feet.

We at VSSM have been actively enagaged in Banaskantha since 2016 to dredge, desilt lakes. Now in 2023 we have expanded our horizons to Patan, Mehsana & Sabarkantha areas. Lot of well wishers have been helping us in this activity but Shri Pratulbhai of. Shri K R Shroff Foundation have single handedly contributed towards the cost of 24 lakes. In fact we take pride in saying that we associated with Shri Pratulbhai in this task.

We dredged/desilted one lake with the help of villagers at Bodal in Banaskantha . Soon the rains arrived & in a very short time the lake got filled with water. Respected Ulhasbhai Paymaster contributed in desilting this lake. We are very much thankful to him for his very timely help.

It is our target to complete such 50 lakes in the year 2024. The society will help us in this noble cause.

વાદળ બંધન,

વરસાદ મુક્તિ..

ટીપાઓ વરસાદ થકી મુક્તિનો અનુભવ કરે.

મુક્તિ કોને ન ગમે? હરેક વ્યક્તિ મુક્તિ ઈચ્છે... છતાં બંધનો સાથે જીવવાનું..

ટીપાઓ વરસાદ રૃપે મુક્ત થયા પછી આપણે એને તળાવરૃપી બંધનમાં બાંધીએ.. આપણી સુખાકારી માટે આ કરીએ. વાત જરા ફીલોસોફીકલ લાગે.. પણ છે મજાની...

તળાવો બાંધવાનું માણસોએ પોતાની સુખાકારી માટે જ કર્યું.. ટેકનોલોજીના આ યુગમાં તળાવોનું મહત્વ ઘટ્યું. બાકી તળાવ ગામોનું હૃદય હોતા. નાહવાનું, કપડાં, વાસણ ધોવાનું, ઢોરને પાણી પીવાનું બધુંયે ત્યાં થતું. 

પછી બોરવેલ આવ્યા અને ઘરે ઘરે નળ પણ.. એટલે તળાવોનું અન્ય કામો માટેનું મહત્વ ઘટ્યું. પણ ભૂગર્ભજળની સપાટીને એકબંધ રાખવા એનું મહત્વ પાછુ એટલુ ને એટલું જ..

પણ આપણે તળાવની આ ભૂમિકા ભૂલ્યા. એટલે જ પાણીના તળ આજે 800 થી લઈને 12000 ફુટ સુધી પહોંચ્યા છે. 

અમે ભૂગર્ભજળ સાબદા થાય તે માટે તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું કરીયે. 2016 થી આ કાર્ય બનાસકાંઠાથી શરૃ કર્યું.  2023માં અમે પાટણ, મહેસાણા અને સાબરકાંઠામાં પણ આ કાર્ય વિસ્તાર્યું. ઘણા બધા સ્વજનોએ મદદ કરી પણ ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનના આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈએ એકલાએ 24 તળાવ કરવામાં સહયોગ કર્યો. આમ તો અમે સાથે રહીને આ તળાવો ગાળ્યા એમ કહેવું વધારે ઉચીત.

બનાસકાંઠાના બોડાલનું આ તળાવ. ગામલોકોની ભાગીદારીથી અમે ગાળ્યું ને મેઘરાજાની મહેર થકી એ સરસ ભરાયું. 

આદરણીય ઉલ્હાસભાઈ પે માસ્ટરે બોડાલનું તળાવ ગળાવવા માટે મદદ કરી. એ માટે તેમનો ઘણો ઘણો આભાર...

બસ આવતી સીઝન એટલે 2024માં 50 તળાવો ગાળવાનો લક્ષાંક છે. સમાજ સહયોગ કરશે તેવી આશા...

Men fell in love with stones and made beautiful statues & carvings out of it. Men's attention should fall on a particular thing and he will see an opportunity to create something useful & beautiful out of it. There are sadists & distortionists too who have created objects that cause destruction & loss of life. But fortunately the vast majority are creators who made this world a better place to live.

This creation is often out of necessity & sometimes to attain satisfaction & peace of mind.

For centuries, recognising the importance of preserving water led mankind to build wells & lakes. We have been preserving this from time to time.

However, it feels that since last few years men have disrupted the water conservation arrangements. With the result the water levels have gone down and even from such low levels we have removed a lot of water.

To correct this, we have been working in North Gujarat to desilt and excavate the lakes. Since last 7 to 8 years we have been building & desilting lakes. Till now we have built 250 lakes. This was possible because several people joined hands with us.

We at VSSM excavated a lake in Paldi Village of Banaskantha. The entire responsibility of lifting the soil was taken by the villagers. Pralin Public Charitable Trust helped us to excavate. We are extremely grateful to Pralin Public Charitable Trust for helping us in this noble cause which helps preserve lives of people.

Many years ago villagers used lake water only for drinking purposes. Then borewell technology was invented and lakes became not so important. In Paldi village due to indiscriminate use of borewell, the water levels fell to 1100 feet. Villagers realised that water has to percolate inside the land. Else no farming or animal husbandry would be possible. With the support of villagers we desilted the lake. Fortunately raingods blessed and today the lake is full of water again. If there will be intermittent rain , the lake will fill thrice which will help the water levels to rise. 

In 2024 we intend to desilt and excavate 50 such lakes. For that villagers and donors support is required. 

Our team in Banaskantha is very active in locating the villages that need lakes.  We are thankful to Naranbhai, Hareshbhai, Maheshbhai, Ishwarbhai, Ratnabhai & others for their dedicated efforts.

માણસને પથ્થર સાથે પ્રેેમ થયો એટલે એણે શીલ્પનું નિર્માણ કર્યું. બસ માણસનું કોઈ ચીજ પર ધ્યાન પડવું જોઈએ. એમાંથી એ સંભાવનાઓ શોધી કાઢે છે અને કાંઈક નવીનતમ ચીજોનું નિર્માણ કરે છે. હા વિકૃતીવાળા માણસો પણ આ દુનિયામાં છે જેનું ધ્યાન પડે તો વિનાશ સર્જે એવી ચીજોનું નિર્માણ પણ કરે.. જો કે મોટાભાગના તો સર્જન જ કરે. 

આ સર્જન ક્યાંક જરૃરિયાત પ્રમાણે હોય ક્યાં મનને ટાઢક થાય એ માટે પણ હોય. 

માણસે પાણીની જરૃરિયાતને ધ્યાનમાં લઈને તળાવ, કૂવા, વાવ વગેરેનું નિર્માણ સદીઓ પહેલાં કર્યું. આપણે એ બધુ જાળવવાનું પણ વખતો વખત કરતા આવ્યા.

પણ છેલ્લા કેટલાક વર્ષોથી પાણીના બચાવ માટેની આ પરંપરાગત વ્યવસ્થાઓ ખોરવાઈ હોય એવું લાગે. એટલે જ પાણીના તળ દિવસે દિવસે નીચે ગયા.

વળી અમાપ પાણી કાઢવાનું આપણે ઘણું કર્યું. 

ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં અમે તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું કરીએ. છેલ્લા સાત આઠ વર્ષથી અમે જલમંદિર નિર્માણ કાર્યમાં પ્રવૃત. અત્યાર સુધી 250 તળાવો પૂર્ણ કર્યા. આ બધુ ઘણા સ્વજનો સાથે આવ્યા માટે થઈ શક્યું.

બનાસકાંઠાના પાલડીનું તળાવ VSSM ગાળ્યું. માટી ઉપાડવાનું કામ ગામલોકોએ કર્યું અને ખોદકામ માટે અમને પ્રાલીન પબ્લીક ચેરીટેબલ ટ્રસ્ટે મદદ કરી. સમગ્ર જીવસૃષ્ટિને જીવંત રાખનાર પાણીના કાર્યમાં મદદ કરનાર ટ્રસ્ટના અમે સૌ ઋણી રહીશું.

વર્ષો પહેલાં પાલડીના આ તળાવનું પાણી ગામલોકો પીવા માટે આબાધીત રાખતા. પછી બોરવેલની ટેકનોલોજી આવી અને તળાવની જરૃરિયાત ન રહી. બોરવેલથી તળમાંથી સતત પાણી ખેંચવાના લીધે આજે પાલડીના તળ 1100 ફૂટથી વધુ ઊંડે ગયા. હવે ગામલોકોને સમજાયું કે પાણીને જમીનમાં ઉતારવું પડશે નહીં તો ખેતી કે પશુપાલન કશું નહીં થાય અને બસ ગામના સહયોગથી આ તળાવ ગાળવાનું થયું. મેઘરાજાએ મહેર કરીને તળાવ સરસ ભરાયું. હજુ વરસાદ પોરો ખાતો ખાતો આવે તો તળાવ આ સીઝનમાં ત્રણેક વખત ભરાય તો ભૂર્ગભજળમાં ઘણો ફાયદો થાય. 

આવતા વર્ષે  એટલે 2024માં 50 તળાવો ગાળવાની ભાવના છે. બસ સમાજ સાથે આવે એમ ઈચ્છીએ..

 If you wish to know water's actual value, ask those with the least access to it!

This statement often falls to our ears, but we got to experience it recently in Poshina.

We were in Poshina block's Chochar village; we met 4-5 men sitting in Rameshbhai's front yard as we walked across his house. VSSM has taken up deepening a  lake in the village and asked if it would benefit them, "if the lake is cleaned and deepened, it will hold more water, and we will experience some water relief. At present, we leave the village as soon as the winters are over. We are here for a ceremony we had to attend here in the village; otherwise, we work as agricultural laborers in Banaskantha,  Patan, Mehsana etc. Some go to work in stone quarries; who wants to leave home in search of work? But this place does not have water; hence we have no choice."

Poshina is a rain-rich region, but the reservoirs to hold all that rainwater need to be improved. As a result, the region experiences a water crisis once the rain waters have been used. It is also a hilly region; hence the check-dams are filled with mud that has been washed away from the hills or were broken,  as everywhere else, the lakes had ceased to exist. If intense efforts to conserve water were to be implemented in this region, it would bring lot of relief to its inhabitants.

The farmers here have small land holdings and engage in terrace farming, the wells help irrigate their small farms. But the wells also dry up, and irrigating the farms becomes challenging. As a result of the lack of water, they also do not undertake cattle farming. If the upkeeping of check dams and lakes happens, they would hold water and help recharge the wells.

We discussed all of these while walking to the lake site and held a small meeting there where people requested support to dredge the wells. They wanted to increase the depth of the wells to increase their water-holding capacity. If there is water, it will provide better opportunities for farming. VSSM agreed to support the efforts.

Respected Pratulbhai Shroff – Dr. K R Shroff Foundation and VSSM work in partnership in Poshina. The team of the Shroff Foundation and VSSM's Tohid work hard in the region. This year they have identified  25 lake sites for deepening in the region.

Our state minister, Respected Shri  Rushikeshbhai Patel, helped with the deepening of these lakes under Sujalm Sufalam Scheme hence the project received aid from the government, while Dr K R Shroff Foundation supported the balance amount.

We want to curtain the distress migration from this region, and we will strive to make that happen.

જ્યાં નથી ત્યાં પુછો પાણીની શું કિંમત છે?

આ વાક્ય વારંવાર સાંભળવામાં આવે પણ હમણાં સાબરકાંઠાના પોશીનામાં આ વાક્યને બરાબર અનુભવ્યું.

પોશિના તાલુાકના છોછરગામના રમેશભાઈના ઘર પાસેથી અમે પસાર થયા. એમના ઘરના આંગણામાં ચાર પાંચ પુરુષો બેઠેલા. અમે આ ગામમાં તળાવ ગળાવી રહ્યા હતા. તળાવથી એમને લાભ થશે કે કેમ તે અંગે પુછ્યું, તો કહે, 'તળાવ થાય, પાણી ભરાય તો અમને હખ થઈ જાય. હાલ તો શિયાળો ઉતરતા અમે ગામ છોડી ભાગી જઈએ. આ ગામમાં પ્રસંગ હતો એટલે આવ્યો. બાકી બનાસકાંઠા, પાટણ મહેસાણા બાજરી વાઢવા કે જે મળે તે ખેતમજૂરી કરવા ભાગી જઈએ. કેટલાક પથ્થરની ગાડીઓ ભરાવવા જાય. ઘર છોડી ભાગવું કોને ગમે? પણ અહીંયા પાણી નથી. એટલે મજબૂરીના માર્યા જઈએ.'

પોશીના વિસ્તારમાં વરસાદ સારો પડે.પણ વરસાદી પાણી સંગ્રહ કરવાના જલસ્ત્રોતો બહુ ઊંડા નહીં એટલે આ બધી મુશ્કેલીઓ. પહાડી વિસ્તાર ચેકડેમ પણ માટીથી ભરાઈ ગયેલા. ક્યાંક તૂટેલા પણ ખરા અને તળાવો તો તળાવ જેવા દેખાય જ નહીં. પણ આ વિસ્તારમાં સઘન કામગીરી પાણીને લઈને કરવામાં આવે અને બારે મહિના પાણી મળી રહે તો લોકોને ઘણી રાહત થઈ જાય. 

લોકો પાસે નાની નાની જમીન, પહાડમાં થાય તેવી ઢોળાવવાળી ખેતી કરે. કૂવાથી પીયત કરે. પણ કૂવામાં હોય તો અવાડામાં આવે ને? કૂવામાં પાણી જ ન હોય તો ખેતરમાં પિયત ક્યાંથી થાય. ઢોરને કેવી રીતે પીવડાવે.  જો તળાવો, ચેકડેેમ બરાબર સાફ, ગળાયેલા હોય તો વરસાદી પાણી એમાં બરાબર ભરાય ને એના લીધે લોકોના કૂવા પણ રીચાર્જ થાય. 

આ બધી વાતો કરતા કરતા રમેશભાઈ, સાહેબાભાઈ સાથે અમે તળાવ ગળાઈ રહ્યું હતું તે સ્થળે પહોંચ્યા. ને ત્યાં પાછી એક બેઠક કરી લોકોએ પોતાના કૂવા ગાળવા મદદ કરવા વિનંતી કરી. જો કૂવો વધારે ઊંડો હોય તો પાણી વધારે સમય રહે ને ખેતી, પશુપાલન થાય. માટે આકાર્યમાં પણ મદદ કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. 

પોશિનામાં આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ - ડો. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન અને VSSM ભગીની સંસ્થાની જેેમ કામ કરે. ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનની ટીમ અને VSSM ના કાર્યકર તોહીદ ટૂંકમાં બધાની જબરી મહેનત એ લોકોએ જ આ વર્ષે 25 તળાવ કરવાની જગ્યાઓ શોધી.

આદરણીય ઋષીકેશભાઈ પેટલ. માનનીય મંત્રી શ્રી એમણે આ તળાવો સુજલામ સુફલામ અભીયાન અંતર્ગત ગળાય તે માટે મદદ કરી. સરકારના પૈસા સિવાયના પૈસા Dr K R Shroff Foundation એ આપ્યા. આમ સૌના સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી સુંદર કામ થઈ રહ્યું છે....

આ વિસ્તારના લોકો સ્થળાંતર કરતા અટકે એ અમારો આશય. બસ એ આશય પુર્ણ થાય તે માટે મથીશું.
