VSSM provided ration kits to the affected families

Food, shelter and housing are the three fundamental needs of human life. Yet it is difficult to have these three together for some impoverished families. And when they face nature’s fury, the challenge to survive multiplies.  Life seems like a never-ending nightmare. 

 Covid’s second wave has snatched away livelihoods and for many, it has taken away the chief earning member of the family. As if this was not enough cyclone Taukatae ravaged the lives of many families of Saurashtra. 

 Come rain or shine, the human body will need food when it is time. With all food damaged it was either water or nothing to be fed especially for the kids in the family. Begging was the only option these families had been left with.

 Comprehending the need for time VSSM decided to supply ration kits to the affected families. So far we have been able to provide ration kits to 1500 families and we continue to reach more families. All of this has been possible because of the support we have received from our well-wishing friends who always choose to support us.

રોટી, કપડાં, મકાન માણસની પ્રાથમિક જરૃરિયાત.. પણ એક સાંધતા તેર તૂટે એવો તકાજો જેના ઘરે હોય એને આ ત્રણેય એક સાથે મેળવવું મુશ્કેલ. એમાં ક્યારેક કુદરત રુઢે ત્યારે તો જીવવું બહુ કપરુ લાગે.

કોરોનાની બીજી લહેરે કેટલાયની રોજી છીનવી તો કેટલાય પરિવારે ઘરની ધુરા સંભાળના મુખ્ય વ્યક્તિ ગુમાવ્યો. આવામાં ઓછુ હતું તે તૌકતે વાવાઝોડુ આવ્યું ને સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં કેટલાય પરિવારનું બધુ તહેસનેહસ કરી નાખ્યું..

ગમે એવી આફત આવે પણ પેટ તો સમય થાય એટલે ભાડુ માંગે જ. પણ ઘરમાં કશું હોય નહીં ને બાળકોનેય પાણી પીને સુવડાવવા પડે અથવા વાટકો લઈને માંગવા મોકલવા પડે એ લાચારી..

સ્થિતિ સમજીને અમે રાશનકીટ આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. 1500થી વધુ પરિવારોને આજ સુધી રાશન પહોંચાડી શક્યા અને આ યજ્ઞ અવિરત ચાલુ છે..આ સઘળું VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્નેહીજનોની મદદ વગર ક્યાં સંભવ હતું. 

પૂ. મોરારીબાપુ, શ્રી મહર્ષીભાઈ અને ઋતુ દવેએ સ્પર્શ થકી તો શ્રી મિલનભાઈ શાહે કુદરતી ઉપચાર ટ્રસ્ટ થકી એ સિવાય શ્રી અમીતભાઈ શાહ, શ્રી જયંતભાઈ અમીન, શ્રી બળવંતભાઈ મેતલિયા, માધવી મહેતાએે ઝાલાવાડ ચેમ્બર ઓફ કોમર્સ એન્ડ ઈન્ડસ્ટીઝ થકી તો કવિતાબેને રાજકોટની સેન્ટ મેરી સ્કૂલ થકી ટૂંકમાં ઘણા પ્રિયજનોએ મદદ કરી એટલે આ સંભવ થઈ શક્યું. આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા ભાવ વ્યક્ત કરુ છું.

આમ તો આદર્શ સ્થિતિ આવી મદદ આપણે કોઈને કરવી ન પડે એજ હોય ને એવી સ્થિતિ નિર્માણ કરવા માટે ભગવાનને પ્રાર્થના..

Shantibhai Raval

“Ben, will he be alright?”

“Everything will be fine. Have faith in God!”

“ I have decided to walk barefoot until he is alright and out of the woods,” by now Manjuben Raval  from Metrana was in tears.

Shantibhai Raval is merely 42 years old, the couple  has two sons but they aren’t grown up enough to take care of the family. Our presence provided solace but both of us knew it was tough especially navigating through a busy public hospital “I was scared!” Manjuben had shared. 

Dealing with Hospital situation can overwhelm even us, it was natural for Manjuben,  who seldom visited city like Ahmedabad to have apprehensions and fear of navigating through it on her own. I asked her to stay at civil hospital only mainly because  it was hard to find injections to treat mucor mycosis at private hospitals.  

Two days later, I called to inquire about Shantibhai’s health. Manjuben shared that he was not doing well, the swelling near eyes had grown, we showed his reports to our known doctor who advised not to delay surgery as it might prove to be fatal.

We decided to move Shantibhai to Sachi Hospital. The cost of treatment was going to be high, it was impossible for Manjuben to afford it. We decided to provide support under Sanjivani Covid Health program. The members of Raval community also pitched in. The surgery was important but we were concerned  about the availably of injections. We put trust in the doctors and our ability to run across to source the injections. On the same day of admission the doctors at Sachi hospital performed surgery on Shantibhai.

We could get injections for 2 days but they have been hard to access since yesterday. Apart from Shantibhai, Hairbhai and Laxmanbhai also have been waiting for injections post their surgeries.

We have made repeated rounds at L.G. Hospital, Sola Civil Hospital, Civil Hospital but in vain. We plan to keep repeating it until we have access to injections.

Manjuben, Laxmanbhai’s son Somabhai all the dear ones are worried about the injections. “Ben, we will get them, right?” they keep asking and  my earnest reply is a yes.

Our Nitin stands like a rock with the patients and families dealing with mucor mycosis, who have to travel from their villages for treating this serious infection. It is our pride to have team mates with such  strong conviction.

Yes, the government is dealing with a lot these days. But we request them to make arrangements to ensure the poor and marginalised too receive the required medicines.

બેન ઈમન હારુ તો થઈ જશે ન?'

'ભગવાનમાં શ્રદ્ધા રાખો થઈ જશે..'

'મે ઈમન હારુ ના થાય તો હુદી અડવોણા પગે ફરવાની બાધા રાખી હ્'

આટલું બોલતા બોલતા મેત્રાણાના મંજુબહેન રાવળ રોઈ પડ્યા.. 

દીલાસો તો આપીયે જ પણ શાંતિભાઈની ઉંમરેય 42 વર્ષની, બે દિકરા ખરા પણ એ ઘરની જવાબદારી સંભાળી શકે એવડા મોટા નહીં.. વળી દવાખાનાની માયાય મંજુબહેનને ખબર નહીં. એ કહે બેન, 'મું હીયાટી જઈ..'

આપણા જેવાય હીયાટી જાય ત્યાં ગામછોડીને ભાગ્યેજ શહેર જતા મંજુબેન ગભરાય એ સ્વાભાવીક છે. મે સિવીલમાં જ રહેવા કહ્યું, મૂળ કાળી ફુગના ઓપરેશન પછીના ઈન્જેક્શન બહાર મળવા મુશ્કેલ હતા માટે. 

અમારી વાત થયાના બે દિવસ પછી શાંતિભાઈ

ના સમાચાર પુછવા ફોન કર્યો હાલત ખરાબ થઈ રહ્યાનું મંજુબહેને કહ્યું. શાંતિભાઈને આંખે સોજો વધ્યો હતો. તેમના રીપોર્ટ મંગાવ્યા ને અમારા પરિચીત ડોક્ટરને બતાવ્યા એમણે કહ્યું, ઓપરેશન કરવું પડશે. વાર થાય એ હિતાવહ નથી.

અમે શાંતિભાઈને સચી હોસ્પીટલમાં ખસેડવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો. ખર્ચ મંજુબહેન કરી શકે એમ નહોતા. અમે VSSM ના સંજીવની કોવિડ હેલ્થ સપોર્ટમાંથી મદદ કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. એમના સમાજના લોકોએ પણ મદદ કરી. જો કે પ્રશ્ન ઓપરેશન પછીના ઈન્જેક્શનનો હતો. પણ ડોક્ટરનો ભરોષો ને ક્યાંક અમેય દોડાદોડી કરી લઈશુંની હામે અમે શાંતિભાઈને સચી હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ કર્યા ને એજ દિવસે ઓપરેશન પણ થઈ ગયું.

બે દિવસ તો ઈન્જેક્શન મળ્યા પણ ગઈકાલથી શાંતિભાઈ અને એ સિવાય અમે હરીભાઈ અને લક્ષ્મણભાઈના પહેલાં ઓપરેશન કરાવ્યા હતા તેમને ઈન્જેક્શન નથી મળ્યા. 

એલજી. સોલા સિવીલ, સીવીલ બધેય બે દિવસથી ધક્કા ખવાય છે પણ... 

આજે સિવીલમાં પાછા જઈશું.. 

મંજુબહેન, લક્ષ્મણભાઈના દીકરા સોમભાઈ બધાયને ઈન્જેક્શનની ચિંતા છે.. મળી તો જશે ને બેન? એવું એ લોકો પુછે છે.. ને હું એમને હા કહુ છુ... .

મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસના ગામોમાંથી આવેલા સ્નેહજનોની દેખરેખમાં અમારા કાર્યકર નિતીન ખડે પગે..આવા કાર્યકરો સંસ્થા પાસે હોવાનો ગર્વ છે..

બાકી સરકાર માટે કોરોનાની વચ્ચે આ આપતી બહુ મુશ્કેલ છે..છતાં દરેક ગરીબ તકવંચિતને ઈન્જેક્શન મળે તેવી વ્યવસ્થા કરવા વિનંતી...

Naranbhai

I sold my Mangalsutra to pay for my husband’s covid medical bills.

Laxmiben, a Pakistani Hindu sought government permission to migrate to India after facing challenges in Pakistan.  Laxmiben, her husband Naranbhai and their three children reside in a rented house in Ahmedabad. Naranbhai, her husband, is a tailor. The couple barely managed to pay their monthly bills, there were no savings to fall back on.

Naranbhai got infected with covid 19 at a time when it was hard to find a bed anywhere in Ahmedabad or Gujarat. His oxygen level dropped.

Youth from other immigrant families helped them get admission into a private hospital. The hospital stay was long and so was the bill. Laxmiben requested help from others too.

VSSM extends support to Asmitaben

Asmitaben from Mandavdhar village also reeled under similar circumstances, her husband Pareshbhai is a diamond polisher. Money and savings have always been a scarce possession with them. Times got tougher when Asmitaben infected Covid. Her condition deteriorated and soon needed hospitalization. With no room in any government hospital, she too had to be admitted into a private hospital. And as it goes with all private hospitals,  the bill was huge. The family requested support from their community, but the requirement surpassed the support they received.

VSSM learnt about the condition of these and many other covid affected families, without further delay, we extended support to them. It is the objective of our Sanjivani Arogya Setu initiative. VSSM is reaching to the Covid affected families from the support it receives from its well-wishers.

'મારા ઘરવાળાને કોરોનામાંથી બેઠા કરવા મે મંગળ સુત્ર વેચ્યું'

લક્ષ્મીબેન મૂળ પાકિસ્તાની હીંદુ. પણ ત્યાં ગોઠ્યું નહીં એટલે પરિવાર સાથે સરકારની મંજૂરીથી એ અમદાવાદ આવ્યા. ઘરવાળા નારાયણભાઈ સિલાઈ કામ કરે. ભાડાના ઘરમાં ત્રણ બાળકો સાથે રહે. માંડ માંડ પુરુ કરતા લક્ષ્મીબેન પાસે બચત તો ક્યાંથી હોય...

આવામાં તેમના પતિ નારાયણભાઈને ગુજરાતમાં જ્યારે સરકારી હોસ્પીટલોમાં જગ્યા મળતી નહોતી એ વેળા કોરોના થયો. ઓક્સિજન લેવલ ઘટ્યું. પાકિસ્તાનથી આવેલા અન્ય હીંદુ યુવાનોએ મદદ કરી અને નારાયણભાઈને એક ખાનગી હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ કર્યા. 

લાંબો સમય દવાખાનામાં રહેવું પડ્યું. બીલ પણ મસમોટુ આવ્યું. સમાજના ને એ સિવાય પણ જે લોકો મદદ કરી શકે તેવા લોકો પાસે એમણે મદદ માંગી. 

આવી જ સ્થિતિ માંડવધારગામના અસ્મિતાબેનની. પતિ પરેશભાઈ હીરા ઘસે. પાસે એવી કોઈ મોટી બચત નહીં. ત્યાં અચાનક અસ્મીતાબેન કોરોનામાં સપડાયા. સ્થિતિ નાજુક થઈ સરકારી દવાખાનામાં જગ્યા ન મળતા એમને પણ ખાનગી હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ કરવા પડ્યા. ખર્ચા અહીંયા પણ મસમોટા.. 

સમાજમાં ઉઘરાણું નાખ્યું. થોડી મદદ મળી પણ જરૃર વધારે હતી. આ બેઉ અને એ સિવાય નબળી સ્થિતિ ધરાવતા કોરોનાગ્રસ્ત પરિવારની વિગત અમારા ધ્યાને આવી. આવા વ્યક્તિઓને મદદ તો કરવાની જ હોય..  

VSSMના સંજીવની આરોગ્ય સેતુ અને સહાય કાર્યક્રમનો ઉદૃશ્ય પણ એ જ છે. આ બેઉ ને એ સિવાયનાને અમારા પ્રિયજનોની મદદથી મદદ કરવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ..

Haribhai who is fighting the deadly mucormycosis infection

Once the battle against Corona is won, there is a fear of contracting Black Fungal infection called mucormycosis by diabetic patients who were given steroids to fight covid infection. The steroids raise blood sugar levels to dangerously high levels, unmonitored and untreated high levels invites mucormycosis infection. The trailing story will help you understand the disease and support someone fighting it. 

 For the past couple of weeks, we have had to support the treatment of few dear ones fighting the deadly mucormycosis infection. 

 Mucormycosis is a rare but deadly fungal infection. The fungus begins with the nose and eyes and rapidly spreads in the mouth and other parts. At times, before the disease is diagnosed it reaches the brain from where it is difficult to remove it. Early diagnosis can save eyes otherwise a small surgery to remove the fungus from the nose and eyes also removes the infected eye. 

 Once the surgery is done, a course of injections to eradicate any minute fungus remaining in the body needs to be done. 2 injections daily. The rate of these injections ranges between Rs. 300 to Rs. 7000 (they are in short supply currently). It also requires carrying blood tests to rule-out any side effects on the kidney. Insufficient post-operative care might prove fatal for the patient.  

 Treating mucormycosis is an expensive affair. Timely treatment is crucial to curb mucormycosis, we have read of  Government opening special cells to treat this infection in Rajkot and Ahmedabad. 

Three days back,  I received a call from Somabhai informing me of his father and uncle contracting mucormycosis. Somabhai’s father remains associated with VSSM from its inception and is very affectionate towards me. We immediately brought them to the hospital. One private hospital asked for an immediate deposit of Rs. 8 lacs with a balance  7 lacs to be deposited later. Who can afford such expensive treatment? 

 I called up Dr Shwetambari,  a friend and eye-specialist, who spoke to specialist doctors treating such patients and arranged for the surgeries of the duo. After numerous tests and investigations, the operations were performed at Sachi Hospital in Maninagar, Ahmedabad by Dr Sapan Shah and Dr Dipen Thakkar. Both operations were done one after the other and carried on for 4 hours each. Dr Sapan stood with us like a dear friend and Dr Dipen took utmost care of the patients. While Dr Shwetambari constantly remained on phone.  

 The operation cost was also very less, the team of doctors supported us the way we would want them to during such agonizing times. 

 VSSM’s Nitin remained with Sombhai while Kiran (who was under the weather) took medication and constantly ran backend needs. 

The duo lost one eye each as fungus had reached their eyes. Next came injections, the hospital had only enough to last 2 days hence, we had to arrange for the rest. We amplified the word for the need of the injections but in vain. We also spoke to Mumbai based Maharshibhai, but he too found it difficult to find the required injections. 

 The injections were available for patients at the government hospital, we could have admitted the duo at the same but there was a long waiting as the numbers of infected was rising steeply. The surgery would have taken time, delaying treatment was not an option we had. So we first decided to get the surgery done and in the meantime search for the injections. The injections need to be administered every day without a miss. 

We began the process of finding ways to admitting our duo at Civil Hospital because here the government ensures enough stock of required medicines. We remembered  Dr Kamlesh Upadhyay and briefed him on the status of our duo, he requested us to speak to Dr Mihirbhai Parmar.  

 Mihirbhai asked us to bring the duo to Civil Hospital, we brought them there on 8th May. One of the doctors asked us to take them back to their hometown and admit them to Patan Civil Hospital. Once again we knocked on the doors of Kamleshbhai and Mihirbhai, who helped us admit our duo to Civil Hospital. The administration of injections needs to be monitored constantly with regular blood tests ( to ensure the kidneys are not damaged in the process). All these tests cost a bomb at any private hospital. 

Laxman and Haribhai too were tired with the everyday rounds of getting their reports and scans done. They are not used to remaining indoors, they have never hit the bed with any illness so this was difficult for them. We pepped their morale.

“They were not ready to come here,  but your voice clip assuring not to worry and things will be taken care of convinced them to come to Ahmedabad.” Sombhai shared. 

 “You need to get well soon, I still need your support in our work so make sure you don’t remain unwell for long.” I had told them when they were at the office before going to the hospital. 

 “Since you have faith, we will be fine soon!”

I  keep praying for giving them the strength to go on and fight this illness…

 Today after the morning rounds, the doctor asked us to buy injections from outside. We were shocked to learn that Civil had no injections. How do we go forward? We had read about Chief Minister ordering 5000 injections. What now?

We searched for it at 7 -8 stores outside the hospital, Nitin also contacted his friends at the pharma company, Maulik and I also spoke to our doctor friends but the injections were nowhere to be found. Finally, Nitin’s friend from the pharma company helped find injections. Laxmanbhai and Haribhai received their first injection today. 

 Low immunity teamed with high blood sugar and rampant use of steroids has resulted in the rise of this infection. While the country is already ravaged by the deadly wave of covid 19, the added pangs of mucormycosis are adding fuel to the fire. 

 While we fight both these evils, a thought crosses my mind. Why can’t the doctors equipped to treat such cases, who have the required infrastructure and skills open their doors to such patients? They can charge reasonably but at least the waiting at government hospitals might lessen. This also is an infection that needs a rapid response, if the infection reaches the brain it proves to be fatal. The patient has already fought Covid, and putting up another fight is nerve-wracking. If you are listening, can you please open your doors to treat these patients…. The nation needs your support. 

VSSM is also supporting hospital treatment of 5 patients with corona. Amongst them, Rajubhai was shifted to Palanpur hospital from Tharad hospital. We are supporting the treatment of individuals who need advanced treatment to fight covid but cannot afford it.

કોરોનાથી એક સ્ટેપ આગળ મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસ. આને સમજવા માટે આ વાંચજો.. ક્યાંક કોઈને મદદરૃપ થઈ શકાય..

કોરોના સામે ને કોરોના પત્યા પછી થતા મ્યકર માઈકોસીસ સામે લડી રહેલા કેટલાક પ્રિયજનોની સારવારમાં મદદરૃપ થવામાં હાલ લાગ્યા છીએ..

પ્રથમ વાત મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસની..બહુ ભયંકર રોગ. નાક અને આંખોમાં ફુગ થઈ જાય વળી આ ફુગનો વિકાસ પણ ઝડપથી થાય. રોગ વિષે કશું સમજીએ એ પહેલાં તો મગજ સુધી પહોંચી જાય. ને પછી એને દુર કરવી અઘરી. પ્રાથમિક સ્તરે ખ્યાલ આવી જાય તો માણસની આંખ બચે નહીં તો નાનકડા ઓપરેશનથી ફુગને આંખ નાકમાંથી કાઢવામાં આવે ને સાથે આંખને પણ...

એ પત્યા પછી શરીરમાં ક્યાંય ફુગ ન રહી જાય એ માટે ઈન્જેક્શનનો કોર્સ.દરરોજના બે ઈન્જેક્શન લેવાના. બજારમાં 300 થી લઈને 7000માં આ ઈન્જેક્શન મળે. (જો કે હાલ શોર્ટેજ છે)કીડની પર અસર ન થાય તે માટે દર ત્રણેક દિવસે રીપોર્ટને બીજુ કેટલું બધુ. દવાની સાથે સરખુ ધ્યાન ન આપીયે તો દર્દી જીવથી જાય.. 

હાલ કોરોનાથી બચવા સ્ટીરોઈડનો ઉપયોગ થઈ રહ્યો છે. પણ જે દર્દી ડાયાબીટીસથી પીડાતા હોય તેવા દર્દીઓની સ્ટીરોઈડના કારણે સુગર વધે ને એ બધાનું બરાબર ધ્યાન ન રહે સુગર રીપોર્ટ ને જરૃરી દવાઓ સમયસર ન થાય તો પછી મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસ વગર બોલાવે આવી જાય.

ખેર ડોક્ટર વધારે સારી રીતે આ રોગ વિષે કહી શકે..

પણ ખર્ચાળ સારવાર. સરકારે રાજકોટ, અમદાવાદમાં સ્પેશીયલ વોર્ડ ઊભા કર્યાના સમાચાર વાંચ્યા. સરકારનો આભાર.. મૂળ ઓપરેશન સમયસર થાય ને ઈન્જેક્શન મળી જાય એ અગત્યનું..

ત્રણ દિવસ પહેલાં રાધનપુરથી સોમભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો ને તેમના પિતા અને કાકાને મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસ થયાનું એમણે કહ્યું. એમના પિતાને મારા માટે બહુ લાગણી. મારી સાથે 2006થી એ સંકળાયેલા. સોમભાઈ તત્કાલ એમને હોસ્પીટલ લાવ્યા. એક ખાનગી હોસ્પીટલે આઠ લાખ જમા કરાવવા કહ્યું, બીજા સાત લાખ પછી થી આપવાના.

આંખના ડોક્ટર મારા મિત્ર શ્વેતાબંરીને ફોન કર્યો. તેમણે આંખ અને નાકના અન્ય ડોક્ટર સાથે વાત કરી અને આ બેય પેશન્ટના ઓપરેશન માટે વ્યવસ્થા કરી આપી. એ પછી કેટલાય રીપોર્ટ અને છેલ્લે મણીનગરમાં આવેલી સચી હોસ્પીટલમાં ડો. સપન શાહ અને ડો. દીપન ઠક્કરે ઓપરેશન કર્યું. બેય દર્દીના ઓપરેશન વારા ફરથી થયા. આઠ કલાકનો સમય લાગ્યો.  ડોં. સપન તો પ્રિયજન મદદ કરે એમ સાથે રહ્યા. તો ડો. દીપેને પણ એવું જ ધ્યાન રાખ્યું. 

સાથે શ્વેતાબંરીના ફોન પણ સતત ચાલુ..

ઓપરેશન ખર્ચ પણ બહાર કરતાં ઘણો ઓછો લીધો. મારા ખ્યાલથી આ કપરા કાળમાં ખરા અર્થમાં ડોક્ટરોએ જે રીતે વર્તવું જોઈએ એ રીતે તેઓ વર્ત્યા..

અમારા કાર્યકર નિતીન સોમભાઈ સાથે ખડે પગે. અમારો કીરણ એની તબીયત નાદુરસ્ત છતાં પેઈન કીલર લઈને દોડા દોડી કરે..

ઓપરેશન થઇ ગયું હવે વાત આવી ઈન્જેક્શનની. ડોક્ટરે કહ્યું એમની પાસેથી કદાચ એકાદ બે દિવસ ચાલે તેટલા ઈન્જેક્શન મળી જાય પછીની વ્યવસ્થા કરવી પડે. ઘણા લોકો સાથે વાત કરી. પણ ઈન્જેક્શન માર્કેટમાં ઉપલલબ્ધ ન હોવાનું કહ્યું. 

મુંબઈમાં રહેતા અને અમારા કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરતા મહર્ષીભાઈને વાત કરી પણ એમણે કહ્યું, મુંબઈમાં પણ નથી મળી રહ્યા. 

સરકારી હોસ્પીટલમાં પેશન્ટ દાખલ થાય તો ઈન્જેક્શન મળી જાય. એટલે એ દિશામાં કવાયત શરૃ કરી ત્યાં દાખલનું આમ તો પહેલાં પણ કરી શક્યા હોત પણ આ બિમારીવાળા કેસ વધી રહ્યા છે. સીવીલમાં પણ ઘણા દર્દી વેઈટીંગમાં  છે. ત્યાં ઓપરેશન માટે સમય લાગત. જ્યારે આ બિમારીની ખબર પડ્યા પછી ઓપરેશનમાં વિલંબ પોષાય નહીં. 

માટે ઓપરેશન પ્રથમ કરાવીને પછી લાગ્યા ઈન્જેક્શન ક્યાં મળે તેની માથાકૂટમાં... ઘણી ફોનાફોની કરી પણ કાંઈ મેળ ન પડે... કોઈ કહે એક બે આપુ.. પણ એક વખત ઈન્જેક્શન શરૃ કર્યા પછી સળંગ લેવા પડે.. વચમાં ન મળે તો પાછુ કોઈ કામનું નહીં...

સીવીલમાં સરકાર ઈન્જેક્શનની વ્યવસ્થા કરે એટલે ત્યાં તો ખુટવાનો પ્રશ્ન નહીં આવે એટલે સીવીલમાં લક્ષ્મણભાઈ અને હરીભાઈને દાખલ કરવા કવાયત આદરી. ડો કમલેશ ઉપાધ્યાય યાદ આવ્યા. પેશન્ટની સ્થિતિ વિષે એમને વાત કરી ને એમણે ડો.મીહીરભાઈ પરમાર સાથે વાત કરવા કહ્યું. 

મિહીરભાઈએ સીવીલ લઈ આવવા કહ્યું. તા. 8 મે ના રોજ સાંજના સીવીલ લઈ ગયા. પણ એક ડોક્ટરે એમના જિલ્લાની એટલે કે પાટણ સીવીલમાં લઈ જવા કહ્યું. પાછુ ડો. મિહીર અને ડો.કમલેશભાઈને હેરાન કર્યા. બેઉની મદદથી દર્દીઓને હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ કર્યા. હવે હાશ થઈ.. મૂળ ઈન્જેક્શનની સાથે સાથે દર બે ત્રણ દિવસે કીડનીના રીપોર્ટ કરવા પડે. કારણ આ ઈન્જેક્શનની અસર કીડનીને થઈ નથી ને એનું ધ્યાન પણ રાખવું પડે.  

જો કે લક્ષ્મણભાઈ હરીભાઈ આ દોડધામથી હવે થાક્યા હતા.. રીપોર્ટ,સીટીસ્કેલન, એમ.આર.આઈ એક જગ્યાએથી બીજી જગ્યાએ જવાનું.. વગેરે... ગામડાંમાં ખુલ્લામાં રહેલા અને ક્યારેય આવી રીતે પથારીમાં પડવાનું ન થયું હોય એમને આ બધુ બધુ આકરુ લાગે. પણ લક્ષ્મણભાઈને મે અને સોમભાઈએ હિંમત આપી. 

સોમભાઈએ કહ્યું એ અમદાવાદ આવવા તૈયાર નહોતા થતા પણ તમે મોકલેલી વોઈસ ક્લીપ ચિંતા ન કરો અહીંયા લઈ આવો વાળી સાંભળી પછી એ આવ્યા. સચી હોસ્પીટલ જતા પહેલાં ઓફીસ આવ્યા ત્યારે મે કહ્યું, 

'જુઓ ઝટ સાજા થઈને મારી સાથે સેવા કાર્યમાં પાછુ લાગવાનું છે એટલે ખાટલો ન પકડતા. એમણે કહ્યું, 'તમે કો છો ને બેન તો સરસ થઈ જશે...'

એમની આ શ્રદ્ધા દવાખાનું થકવાડે નહીં એની પ્રાર્થના રોજ કરુ છુ...

આજે સવારે ડોક્ટેર તપાસ્યા પછી બહારથી ઈન્જેકશન લખી આપ્યા. અમને મોટો ઝાટકો લાગ્યો. સીવીલમાં ઈન્જેકશન નથી. હવે શું? હોસ્પીટલ બહાર સાતેક મેડીકલ સ્ટોરમાં પુછ્યું પણ ક્યાંય નહીં.. આજે સવારે છાપામાં વાંચેલું કે મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીએ 5000 ઈન્જેક્શનનો ઓર્ડર આપ્યો છે. પણ એ તો ઓર્ડર હાલ શું?

નિતીન એના પરિચીચ ફાર્માવાળા મિત્રોના સંપર્કમાં લાગ્યો. હું ને મૌલિક અમારા સંપર્કના મિત્રો, ડોક્ટરમાં. પણ મેળ ન પડે. આખરે નિતીનના એક ફાર્માવાળા મિત્રએ ઈન્જેકશ મેળવી આપ્યા ને હમણાં લક્ષ્મણભાઈ, હરીભાઈને પહેલું ઈન્જેક્શન આપ્યું..

નબળી રોગપ્રતિકારણ શક્તિ ને ડાયાબીટીસવાળા દર્દીની સ્થિતિ સમજ્યા વગર સ્ટીરોઈડ અપાય છે માટે આ ખતરનાક બિમારીના કેસ વધી રહ્યા છે.. કોરોનાએ આખા દેશને હેરાન કરી મુક્યો. ત્યાં આ મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસ.. 

કોરોનાની સાઈડ ઈફ્કેટથી આ રોગના દર્દી વધ્યા. ભગવાનને પ્રાર્થના તો કરીએ..પણ એક વિચાર આંખ અને કાનના ડોક્ટરો જેઓની પોતાની હોસ્પીટલ છે ને જેની આ મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસના ઓપરેશન કરવાની આવડત છે. તેઓ આવા પેશન્ટોના ઓપરેશન માટે પોતાની હોસ્પીટલના દરવાજા ખુલ્લા ન કરી શકે? 

શક્ય ઓછી ફી લઈને કે આ ઓપરેશન કરી આપે તો વેઈટીંગમાં જે પેશન્ટો છે એ વેઈટીંગ ન રહે.. મૂળ રાહ જોવાથી આ ફંગશ ફટાફટ મગજ સુધી પહોંચવા માંડે છે અને માણસને ખોઈ બેસવાનું થાય છે..આ કપરા કાળમાં દેશ માટે આટલી મદદ તો કરી જ શકાય ને.. 

આ સિવાય કોરોના થયેલા પાંચ પેશન્ટ જેઓ હોસ્પીટલમાં છે એમની સારવારમાં અમે શક્ય મદદ કરીશું. એમાંના રાજુભાઈને તો આજે થરાદ હોસ્પીટલમાંથી પાલનપુર હોસ્પીટલ શીફ્ટ કર્યા છે..

આર્થિક સ્થિતિ નબળી હોય તેવા પેશન્ટને શક્ય આર્થિક મદદ કરવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ... 

VSSM ના સંજીવની આરોગ્ય સેતુ અને સહાય કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત સંજીવની કોવિડ સપોર્ટમાં મદદ કરનાર બહુ જ પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ અને ઈ્ન્દીરા આંટીનો આભાર.. આ સિવાય ભાવના પટેલ, પિયુષા અને કૌશિક પટેલનો પણ આભાર.

આપની હૂંફથી આ બધા પ્રિયજનોને શક્ય મદદ કરી શકીશું..હે ઈશ્વર તને પ્રાર્થના આ બધુ ઝટ ઠીક કર...

ને લક્ષ્મણભાઈ અને હરીભાઈને સારવારમાં મદદ કરનાર આપ સૌ પ્રિયજનોનો આભાર.. તમે મદદ કરી એટલે આટલું થઈ શક્યું.. ઈશ્વર બેઉને સાજા નરવા કરી દે તેવી પ્રાર્થના..

 “Ben, our Bhodadwala Gulabbhai has met with an accident. He was driving at night and could not see the tractor carrying steel rods. The rods pierced in his stomach. We took him around to 3 hospitals, borrowed money to spend on his treatment, have already spent Rs. 70,000 but he is not recovering.” Musabhai called up to share the news and seek some help. We asked him to bring Gulabbhai to Ahmedabad. We arranged for his treatment and Kiran awaited his arrival at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.  

Gubalbhai was unconscious when the ambulance carrying him reached Ahmedabad at 10 in the night. Kiran immediately got busy with arranging for a blood test, sonography, CT Scan, ECG etc. it was almost 4 in the morning by the time the required screening was completed. Gulabbhai’s wife and brother Salim were at the hospital, but it was hard for them to comprehend these pre-operative requirements. They had trust in us so remained calm and watched the proceedings. At 5 in the morning, Gulabbhai was taken into the operation theatre. The operation lasted for 6 hours, but it was all well at the end of it. 

The timely surgery helped save Gulabbhai’s life, he remained in ICU for two days after which he was moved to a general ward. He was recovering well when his health took a downturn after he tested positive for Covid 19. Since his immunity was low he was kept in the ICU for 5 days, the doctors remained perseverant and Gulabhai was out of danger soon. He was discharged recently after being in the hospital for 20 days. 

 Gulabbhai was at the office to express his gratitude, since I was unwell during that time I spoke to him recently. 

 “You all saved my life. Otherwise, I had lost hope. Salim took me to Dholka where I was kept there for two days, given IV medicines, spent Rs. 70,000 but my condition did not improve. There were blood clots around my stomach. The doctor referred us to a bigger hospital, but we had no money to seek treatment at a bigger hospital. We had spent whatever we had at Dholka. Whilst we were struggling to find a way forward, the thought of you crossed our mind. And look how you saved me. I am alive and able. I can walk across four farms. Kiranbhai has been a great help, he stood with us throughout. 

 I wonder why the doctors at Dholka hospital failed to understand the gravity of Gulabhai’s condition. We are grateful that he is alive!! We merely played our role of bridging the gap to help access proper medical treatment to those in need under the Sanjivani Arogya Setu initiative. 'બેન આપણા ભોળાદવાળા ગુલાબભાઈને અકસ્માત થયો છે. રાતના બાઈક લઈને ઘરે જતા રસ્તામાં સળિયા ભરેલું ટ્રેક્ટર દેખાયું નહીં ને પેટમાં સળિયા ઘુસી ગયા.. ત્રણ દવાખાના ફર્યા ઉછીના પાછીના કરીને 70,000નો ખર્ચ કર્યો પણ તબીયત બગડી રહી છે...'

મુસાભાઈએ ફોન પર આ કહ્યું. અમે ગુલાબભાઈને અમદાવાદ તેડી લાવવા કહ્યું. અમારો  કિરણ અમદાવાદ સીવીલ હોસ્પીટલમાં એમની વાટ જોઈને ઊભો.

બેભાન ગુલાબભાઈને લઈને એમ્બ્યુલન્સ રાતના 10 વાગે આવી પહોંચી.  

કિરણે ઝડપથી સારવાર માટે પ્રયત્નો આદર્યા ને બ્લડ રીપોર્ટ, સોનોગ્રાફી, સીટીસ્કેન, ઈસીજી વગેરે બધુ તાબડતોડ થયું.. આમ તો રીપોર્ટને બધુ પતાવતા સવારના 4 વાગ્યા. ગુલાબભાઈના પત્ની ને એમના ભાઈ સલીમ ભાઈને તો ડોક્ટર શું કહે છે આ બધુ શું થઈ રહ્યું છે કશુંયે સમજાય નહીં. પણ અમારા પર એમને ભરોષો.. આખરે સવારના 5 વાગે એમને ઓપરેશન થીયેટરમાં ખસેડ્યા...ઓપરેશન 5 થી 11 ચાલ્યું.. પણ બધુ હેમખેમ પત્યું... 

ગુલાબભાઈનો જીવ બચી ગયો. બે દિવસ ICUમાં રહ્યા બાદ જનરલ વોર્ડમાં શીફ્ટ કર્યા. તબીયત સરસ થઈ રહી ત્યાં અચનાક તબીયત બગડી તેમનો કોરોના રીપોર્ટ પોઝેટીવ આવ્યો..એક તો બિમાર, રોગ પ્રતિકારક શક્તિ પણ નબળી. ફરી ICUમાં 5 દિવસ..પણ ડોક્ટરોની મહેનતથી એ હેમખેમ બહાર આવ્યા. 20 દિવસ હોસ્પીટલમાં રહ્યા.. હમણાં એમને રજા મળી.. 

હું બિમાર હતી ઓફીસ નહોતી પણ એ ઓફીસ પર આવ્યા આભાર માનવા.. 

મારી તબીયત ઠીક થઈ એટલે આજે એમને ફોન કર્યો. 

ગુલાબભાઈ કહે, 'તમે બધાએ મને બચાવ્યો. નકર હું તો આશા જ ખોઈ બેઠો'તો. મને વાગ્યું એટલે સલીમ મને ધોળકા દવાખાને લઈ ગ્યો. ત્યાં બે દિવસ રાખ્યો. બાટલા ચડાયા. 70,000નો ખર્ચ થયો. પણ તબીયતમાં ફેર ના પડે. પેટમાં લોઈ જામી ગયું'તુ.  બે દિ પછી  ડોક્ટરે કહ્યું હવે મોટા દવાખાને લઈ જાવ.. પણ મોટા દવાખાને જવા પૈસાની સગવડ ક્યાં હતી. જે હતું એ બધુ પતી ગયું...પણ ખરા ટાણે તમે યાદ આવ્યા ને જુઓ આજે હું જીવતો છુ ચાર ખેતરવા ચાલી શકુ એવી તબીયત થઈ ગઈ હવે.. કિરણભાઈએ બહુ ધોડા કીધા... '

ધોળકા જે દવાખાનામાં ગુલાબભાઈ બે દિવસ રહ્યા એમણે ગુલાબભાઈની તબીયતની આટલી ગંભીરતા કેમ ન સમજી એ મને હજુયે નથી સમજાતું. ખેર એ બચ્યા એ અગત્યનું...બાકી અમે તો નિમિત્ત બન્યા..  

કોઈને યોગ્ય તબીબી સારવાર મળે તે માટે અમે સંજીવની આરોગ્ય સેતુ અને સહાય કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત બ્રીજની ભૂમિકા ભજવીયે.. આ ભૂમિકા બનવામાં મદદ કરનાર ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ, ઈન્દિરા આંટીનો આભાર...

“Ben, by God’s grace we have enough. Please do not worry about us, give whatever is necessary for people who have nothing at all. The efforts you have poured in inculcating the  habit of saving and financial planning have come to our rescue during these times.”

Khodubhai Kangasiya resides in Rajkot.  The lockdown has forced everyone to stay put.  The daily wage-earning labourers have braced the worst effects of it, nomadic communities are a major chunk of this marginalised section of society. VSSM decided to distribute ration kits to the families it has been working for. During such trying times  Khedubhai tells us, “Ben, we are in a position to look after 300-350 individuals, don’t worry about us. We respect your feelings, appreciate the care you take of us. But we cannot live on charity!!” Khedubhai’s response felt like a ray of sunshine.

Kangasiya leaders Khedubhai, Ravjibhai, Jagmalbapa and many were given interest-free loans to expand their business. They kept taking small loans to improve their business after the previous one would be paid off. The families have improved their financial health as a result of the flourishing businesses. And it is not just economic well-being that has improved, they are at peace mentally as well. Otherwise which economically weaker section would refuse to accept charity during such trying times?

Khodubhai and Ravjibhai arranged meals for the economically weaker members of their community during the lockdown. They also gave Rs. 1000 especially for tea to those who needed it, as tea is an addiction for many. “Ben, even we cannot live without tea, how can they. Once things are ok again, they will return the money if and when they want to. We did our duty?”

Truth be told, it is hard to find leaders as wise and compassionate as these Kangasiya leaders. They send donations for the girls studying in the hostel. It is our privilege to be associated with leaders like Khodubhai, Ravjibhai. Our Pranams to all these wise men.

It is the hard-work of VSSM’s Kanubhai and Chayaben, who instilled in these communities financial discipline. They did teach well. Believe me, it is both good faith and joy to have such a hard-working team.

'બેન અમારી પાહે તો ભગવાને દીધેલું હાલ પુરતુ સે. એટલે અમારી ચિંતા તમે નો કરતા. તમે એવા લોકોને દેજો જેની પાહે કશું નથ. બચત અને આયોજન તમે શીખડાવેલું તે અટાણે કામ લાઈગું'

કોરોનાને કારણે લોકડાઉન થયું અને જે જ્યાં હતાં ત્યાં થંભી ગયા. રોજે રોજ લાવીને ખાવાવાળીની હાલત માઠી હતી. અમે રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. પણ ખોડુભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'અમે બીજા ત્રણસો સાડા ત્રણસો માણસોને હાચવી હકીએ એમ સીએ બેન હાલ અમારી ચિંતા નો કરતા. તમે લાગણી રાખો સો એ માટે ધન્યવાદ પણ આ ધર્માદુ ખાઈને પસી ક્યાં જવું?'ખોડુભાઈની વાત સાંભળી રાજી થવાયું.

ખોડુભાઈ, રવજીભાઈ, જગમાલબાપા વગેરે કાંગસિયા આગેવાનોને અમે તેમના વ્યવસાય વધારવા વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપેલી. એક લોન પૂરી કરી બીજી લે આમ એક પછી એક લોન લઈને આજે એ સુખી થયા છે.આમ તો ભૌતિક સુખ જ નહીં માનસીક સુખ પણ મેળવ્યું છે એટલે જ ધર્માદુ નો ખપે વાળી વાત તેમણે કહી.

લોકડાઉનમાં પોતાના સમાજના નબળા વર્ગના તમામ લોકોને જમવાની વ્યવસ્થા તો ખોડુભાઈ , રવજીભાઈ સૌએ કરી. સાથે બધાને 1000 રૃપિયા ચા પીવા ખાસ આપ્યા. બંધાણી હોય બેન આપણને ચા વીના નો હોરવે તો ઈને ક્યાંથી હોરવે. કાલ હારા વાના થાશે પસી એને દેવા હોય તો દેશે બાકી અમે તો દઈ દીધા..

કાંગસિયા સમાજના આ આગેવાનો જેવા આગેવાનોનો જોટો જડે એમ નથી..

સંસ્થામાં ભણતી દીકરીઓ હાટુ દર મહિને ધર્માદુ આપે છે..

ખોડુભાઈ, રવજીભાઈ જેવા આગેવાનો અમારી સાથે છે એનો આનંદ અને તમને સૌને પ્રણામ..

આ બધાને બચતના પાઠ અને ધર્માદાનું સાચુ જ્ઞાન VSSMના અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેનનું.. આવા કર્મઠ કાર્યકરો આપણી પાસે હોવા એ પણ મોટુ સુખ છે..

Corona, at least for now,  has changed the way we function socially. 

The restrictions on public meetings and gatherings, fetes and celebrations are a new normal. The funerals too do not allow gathering of more than a few individuals.

 The livelihoods of folk artists from the nomadic communities who earn their living through their performances have been impacted as a result of these restrictions. The Bhavaiya, the Nats attract crowds whenever they host performances. The current situation cannot allow gatherings of this magnitude. I began receiving calls from individuals of Bhavaiya, Nat and Turi communities.

“Ben, we cannot step out. Summers are our season for performing, it is when we have our performances in the villages. Instead of performing, we are required to stay at home for our safety. How will we survive if we have to stay at home?” Kanubhai Bhavaia (Vyas) from Bala shared his turmoil. “We have no inheritance, we have no land handed over to us by our ancestors. Government has given relief packages to farmers, what about us, can’t they do something for us?” he continued.

Kanubhia is right. This needed to be brought to the government’s attention and I have done that. It would be great if folk artists were given some kind of assistance from the government.

કોરોનાએ સમાજિક વ્યવહારની પરિભાષા બદલી નાખી..

જાહેર સમારંભો, મેળાવડા બધુ જ બંધ થઈ ગયું. એ એટલે સુધી કે આપણું પ્રિયજન આ દુનિયામાંથી જાય ત્યારે એને વળાવવા પણ 15-20 થી વધુ સંખ્યામાં ન જઈ શકીએ..

આવામાં મનોરંજનના પરંપરાગત માધ્યમો થકી પેટિયું રળનાર કલાકારોની દશા માઠી થઈ છે.

ભવાઈ કે અંગકસરતના ખેલ જ્યાં થાય ત્યાં માણસો ભેગા થાય. જે હાલની સ્થિતિમાં શક્ય નથી..

ભવાયા, નટ અને તુરી સમાજના આવા કલાકારોના ફોન આવ્યા. બાળાના કનુભાઈ ભવાયા(વ્યાસે) કહ્યું,

'બેન ક્યાંય બારા નીહરાતું નથી. ઉનાળો અમારી સીઝન કેહવાય. રાતના ગામોમાં જઈને ભવાઈ ભજવતા એની જગ્યાએ સુરક્ષીત રહેવા ઘરમાં છીએ.. પણ આમ ઘરમાં બેઠે બેઠે જીવાશે કેમના?

અમારા બાપ દાદા પાસે જમી - જાગીર નથી.. સરકાર ખેડૂતો હાટુ રાહત પેકેજ જાહેર કરે એમ અમારી હાટુ નો કરી હકે?'

કનુભાઈની વાત સાચી હતી. સરકારમાં આ મુદ્દે રજૂઆત તો ચોક્કસ કરી શકાય જે મે કરી..

 How long can one survive without air?  A few seconds maybe !! And without water? Maybe for a few hours!  And yet we undervalue both these resources.

VSSM initiated deepening village lakes in Banaskantha

 We save money, to help us sustain during a crisis or special needs. I reckon all of you would agree if I claimed that our underground water reserves are like our savings. Meaning they have to be reached out for only in case of dire need and stop drawing from these reserves once we have other options available. However, we have failed to do that. We kept using our groundwater reserves without responsibly giving back what was taken from nature’s reserves. Despite crippling water crisis, we have never felt the need to save water.  Rainwater is the only source of fresh water and we have not considered it necessary to catch and conserve it. According to a study by 2080, we shall run out of drinking water. It is time we wake up to the looming crisis. Water is the biggest threat there is.

VSSM initiated deepening village lakes in Banaskantha but just deepening the lakes is not going to be enough. Farmers will have to build farm ponds and plan the slop in such a way that rain waters from the village are captured in these reservoirs. If planned well the water tables in this region will begin to rise.

 The COVID19 crisis has impacted our water conservation works, we had to delay the beginning of this year’s works. Nonetheless, we are confident about excavating at least 25 lakes this year. The leadership of Banaskantha’s Lavana and Makhanu village is aware and proactive hence, the works there have already begun (as seen in the pictures).  We have had a meeting in Waghpura too and more were in planned, but the lockdown has crippled our movement.  According to our work protocol, we only begin work in the village after a proper briefing of the initiative.

I am grateful for the insights of our respected Rashminbhai, who made us pay attention to the water crisis and pushed me into working on the issue. It should be noted that the entire water conservation initiative functions under the guidance of Shri Rashminbhai.

 If we do not act now ‘WATER-WATER EVERYWHERE, NOT A DROP TO DRINK’ will soon be a reality.

 પાણી..

હવા વગર થોડી સેન્કડો જીવી શકાય..જ્યારે પાણી વગર કેટલાક કલાકો..

આપણે કમાણીનો અમુક ભાગ બચત તરીકે જુદો મૂકીએ.. મૂળ તો તકલીફ અથવા પ્રસંગોમાં એ પૈસો કામ આવે..

ત્રેવડ એ ત્રીજો ભાઈ કહેવાય, એવું નાનપણથી આપણને મા- બાપ શીખવે..

ભૂગર્ભજળ એ બેંકમાં મૂકેલી આપણી બચત જેવું.. એને રોજ ન વપરાય ખાલી જઈ જાય. કોઈ આરો ન હોય ત્યારે એનો ઉપયોગ કરાય અને જેવી સગવડ થાય પાછી બચત કરવાનું કરવું પડે..

પણ આપણે એમ કરતા નથી. ભૂગર્ભજળ ને બસ કાઢે જઈએ પાછુ આપવાનું તો કરીએ જ નહીં..

મીઠા પાણીનો સૌથી મોટો સ્ત્રોત વરસાદ.. આપણે એ વરસાદના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવવું જોઈએ.. પણ આપણે ઊણા ઉતર્યા છે.

એક સમાચાર પ્રમાણે આજ સ્થિતિ રહી તો 2080 સુધીમાં પીવાનું પાણી પણ નહીં બચે...

માટે જાગવાનો વખતઆવી ગયો છે..

અમે બનાસકાંઠામાં તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું આરંભ્યું છે. પણ ફક્ત ગામના તળાવો ગાળે ચાલશે નહીં... ખેડૂતો પોતાના ખેતરમાં પણ ખેતતલાવડી બનાવે.

આ તળાવ અને ખેતતલાવડીમાં એવો ઢોળાવ આપે કે વરસાદનું બધું પાણી વહીને એમાં ભરાય..

બે - પાંચ વર્ષે એ વિસ્તારના ભૂગર્ભ જળના તળ ઊંચા આવવા માંડશે..

આ વર્ષે કોરોનાના લીધે તળાવ ગળાવવાનું કામ થોડું મોડેથી શરૃ કર્યું છતાં 25 તળાવો ગાળી નાખીશું..

બનાસકાંઠાના લવાણા અને મખાણું બેય ગામના સરપંચ જાગૃત.. આ ગામોમાં થઈ રહેલું કામ ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.

મીટીંગ અમે વાઘપુરા ગામમાં કરેલી. હમણાં તો બેઠકો માટે નથી જવાતું.. કોરોનાએ પગમાં બેડીઓ બાંધી દીધી છે..

પણ ગામલોકો સાથેનો એ વાર્તાલાપ યાદ કરુ છુ. એક સમજણ આપ્યા પછી પાણીનું કામ શરૃ કરવાની VSSMની પરંપરા..

આદરણીય રશ્મીનભાઈ જેમણે પાણીના કામોમાં મને વાળી જેમના માર્ગદર્શન હેઠળ અમે આ કાર્ય કરીએ.. આપનો આભાર તમે બહુ મોટુ કામ અમને સમજાવી દીધું.

પાણી ફક્ત મનુષ્ય માટે નહીં પણ સમગ્ર જીવ સૃષ્ટિ માટે જરૃરી...

The nomadic families received their ration kits

A couple of days back, Chainikaben called from Mumbai. Pihu, her daughter happened to watch the vlog on our work during the COVID crisis. Pihu is the same age as my daughter Kiara. After listening to the talk she conveyed her desire to make a  contribution to VSSM.

Kiara too has been overhearing my conversions with the leaders from settlements who call me all through the day asking for ration. “Ma, these people really don’t have anything to eat?” she asked one day. I shared some images and videos with her. “How can I help them, Ma?” she had asked.

 Both these daughters are way too small to earn for themselves. But they do have a piggy bank where they drop their daily saving. 

 Furthermore, both of them donated their savings to VSSM, their very first contribution for a cause.

The contribution by Pihu and Kiara was used to provide ration kits to families residing at Rethal village near Ahmedabad.

The current living condition of nomadic families

 The reason for this post is to share the need to inculcate empathy in children from a very early age.  Are we instilling the right values in our children? We mould them, educate them to earn in thousands and lacs but do we teach them to share part of that earning with those in need? Are we raising them to become socially responsible humans?

Since the kits were from Pihu and Kiara’s contribution I personally went to distribute the kits in  the community. 

મુંબઈથી ચૈનીકાબેનને ફોન આવ્યો. તેમની દીકરી પીહુએ વિચરતી જાતિઓ સાથે કરેલા કામોના અનુભવો અંગેના વિડીયો સાંભળ્યા.

પીહુ મારી કિઆરા જેવડી. એણે વાત સાંભળીને મારે પણ કશુંક આપવું છે એવું ચૈનિકાબહેનને કહ્યું.

મારી કિઆરા પણ રોજ વિવિધ વસાહતોમાંથી મારા પર આવતા ફોન સાંભળે. લોકો ખાવાનું નથીની રાવ કરતા. એક દિવસ એણે કહ્યું, તે મા સાચ્ચે આ લોકો પાસે ખાવા નથી? મે ફોટો અને વિડીયો બતાવ્યા અને એણે કહ્યું, હું આ લોકોને શું આપી શકુ મા?

બંને દીકરીઓ નાની. એ તો ક્યાંથી કમાય?

પણ એમના ગલ્લામાં એમની નાની બચત ખરી.

પીહુ અને કિઆરાએ એમની બચત VSSMમાં આપી.

દીકરીઓનું પહેલું અનુદાન..

સાણંદ પાસેના રેથળ ગામમાં રહેતા પરિવારોને આ અનુદાનમાંથી રાશન આપ્યું.

આ પોસ્ટ બાળકોને કેવા સંસ્કાર આપી શકીએ એ માટે ખાસ લખી છે. કોઈની મહત્તા સાબિત કરવા માટે નહીં..

લાખો કમાવવાનું આપણે બાળકોને રોજ શીખવીએ પણ એ કમાણીનો અમુક ભાગ સમાજ માટે કાઢવાનું સમાજ વિજ્ઞાન બાળકોને્ શીખવીએ છીએ?

Team efforts make feeding thousands possible...

“Congratulations, you did a splendid job of bringing ration kits at the doorsteps of the deprived and marginalized families!!” many of you called us up to commend us on our efforts to provide ration to our vast family of nomads. Thank you all for the warmth and support.

Nonetheless, this would not have been possible without the hard work of a committed team. VSSM is blessed to have a team to be proud of. Whilst people had to avoid stepping out of the house, the members of our team embraced the virus scare and extreme heat to bring happiness to the families in despair.

 Our Harshad fell ill after being overtly stressed of never-ending work. He needed to be hospitalised. Three days later he was out of the hospital and back to work.

“Ben, there is a COVID positive case in this village where I have to go for distributing kits. I am afraid,” Ishwar tells me one day. “Take care, maintain distance, we are with you!” I told him. Ishwar gathered strength, distributed the kits and returned home safe.

 Ramesh was unwell but he efficiently planned the distribution jobs.

 Naran included other marginalised families along with our families.

 Kanubhai, Tohid and Rizwan worked constantly and tirelessly in two districts.

 Shankarbhai and Mohanbhai poured their hearts out.

Paresh, Mahesh, Ilaben, Madhuben, Shardaben, Pravin, Rajnibhai, Chayaben worked endlessly, from early morning until late at night they travelled to reach hungry families. Never did they care about their hunger.

Kanubhai portered the heavy kits into the trucks.

Jayantibhai brought ration kits to the families in Ahmedabad so what if his wife pleaded and shouted at him to not leave the house. “My work needs me right now!” he would reply.

Along with this determined team we had the very committed leaders Balubhai, Lalitbhai, Kanubhai, Umarbhai, Pratap, Jeevabhai from the people’s association we have inspired and formed. They provided us with strength when we needed.

Linesh, Prajakta, Kajal, Jitu, Amiben, Keya, Palak, Kirtan, Bharat, Sachin, Nisha, Nitin, Prakash, Swati from our Ahmedabad office mobilised the efforts.

Maulik provided constant guidance during this entire endeavour. 

 Of course, as always there was a stamp of approval and support from our Trustees and financial assistance from our well-wishing patrons and friends.

 All of these together helped us provide ration kits to thousands of vulnerable families on the verge of hunger and starvation.

 'કોરોનાની મહામારીમાં વંચિતોને રાશન પહોંચાડવાનું સુંદર કાર્ય તમે કર્યું. અભીનંદન...'

આવું કહેતા ઘણા લોકોના ફોન અને સંદેશા આવ્યા. આપ સૌની લાગણીને પ્રણામ.

પણ એક મજબૂત ટીમ વગર કોઈ દરેક કોઈ કાર્ય સફળ થતું નથી.

આવી મજબૂત ટીમ અમારી પાસે છે. લોકો ઘરમાંથી બહાર નીકળવાનું ટાળતા એ વખતે vssm ટીમના મજબૂત સાથીદારો બળબળતા તાપમાં લોકોને સુખ વહેંચવા ફરી રહ્યા હતા.

અમારો હર્ષદ સતત દોડાદોડાની લીધે બિમાર પડ્યો. હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ કરવો પડ્યો. ત્રણ દિવસ પછી હોસ્પીટલમાંથી રજા આપીને ચોથા દિવસે એ પાછો ફીલ્ડમાં લાગી ગયો.

ઈશ્વરે કહ્યું બેન, આ ગામમાં કીટ આપવાનું નારણભાઈએ કહ્યું, પણ અહીંયા કોરાના પોઝીટીવના કેસ છે. મને બીક લાગે છે. અને મે કહ્યું, તુ ધ્યાન રાખજે એક અંતર રાખીને કીટ આપવાની તો તને કાંઈ નહીં થાય. અમે છીએ તારી સાથે અને ઈશ્વર હીંમતથી કીટ આપીને આવી ગયો.

રમેશની તબીયત નાદુરસ્ત પણ સુંદર આયોજન સાથે એણે કાર્ય કર્યું. નારણે બનાસકાંઠામાં રહેતા અન્ય સ્વજનોને પણ વંચિતો સાથે જોડ્યા.

તો કનુભાઈ, તોહીદ અને રીઝવાને બે જિલ્લામાં સખત દોડાદોડી કરી.

શંકરભાઈ, મોહનભાઈએ તો હૃદય ઠાલવી દીધું.

આવું જ પરેશ, મહેશ, ઈલાબહેન, મધુબહેન, શારદાબહેન, પ્રવિણ, રજનીભાઈ, છાયાબહેને કર્યું. રાતના મોડે સુધી સતત વસાહતોમાં એ ભૂખ્યા લોકોને રાશન આપવા પોતે ભૂખ વેઠીને ફર્યા.

કનુભાઈએ તો વજનવાળી ભારેભરખમ કીટ પોતાના ખભે ઉપાડી ગાડીઓ ભરાવી..

જયંતીભાઈ અમદાવાદમાં રાશન પહોંચાડવાનું કર્યું. પત્ની લલીતાબહેન ના જાવની બૂમો પાડે પણ એ કહે, અત્યારે જ મારુ કામ છે...

આવી મજબૂત ટીમને અમારા લોકસંગઠનના પ્રહરી એવા બલુભાઈ, લલીતભાઈ, કનુભાઈ, ઉમરભાઈ, પ્રતાપ, જીવાભાઈ વગેરેએ.. પણ બળ પૂરુ પાડ્યું.

ઓફીસમાં આ કાર્યને વેગ આપ્યો, લીનેશ, પ્રાજકતા, કાજલ, જીતુ, અમીબેન, કેયા, પલક,કીર્તન, ભરત, સચીન, નિશા, નિતીન, પ્રકાશ, સ્વાતીએ

અને માર્ગદર્શન આપ્યું મૌલિકે...

ટ્રસ્ટીમંડળની મહોરતો હંમેશાં હોય જ.. સાથે પ્રિયસ્વજનોનો આર્થિક સહયોગ પણ ..

હજારો લોકોને રાશન આપવાનું આપ સૌ થકી થયું.

આપ સૌ સાથીદારોને પ્રણામ..

“Ben, please take this cheque!”

“Who has given this?”

“The living conditions of our families will still deteriorate. People are still shouting for food. This is my contribution to the same.”

As I accept the cheque of Rs. 5000, the early days of 2006 when Jayantibhai had voluntarily joined me in my work with nomadic communities came flashing back. An angry young man, Jayantibhai could never tolerate any wrong. It was much later that I could offer him a very small remuneration for the work he was putting in until then, he never brought up any mention of money. Even today his remuneration does not match the amount of hard work he pours in. And yet to have this strength and graciousness to give from whatever he has is a trait I applaud.

Ravji Bhagat Bajaniya conveyed, “Ben has helped us so much, it is our turn now. If we decide to not to take things for free, that too shall be of big help!!”

 These words uttered by Ravji Bhagat calms my mind. 

 Bharat and Sanjay, our children in one of the VSSM run hostel broke their piggy bank and transferred Rs 2500, all of their savings of previous many years to us via Paytm to help us buy some more ration kits for our families. 

 Ravjibhai Bajaniya runs a small business, he sells wood. He donated Rs. 5000 as well. 

 Along with our well-wishing donors who make donations in lakhs we have our community members too sending their contributions to us. It is easy to give for people who have but to be able to give and offer when one has little or nothing calls for a lot of courage and a very big heart. 

 Many have said, “Ben, we will borrow some money to pass this time. Once we being working will return the borrowed money. How long can we eat food given as charity? It is a big obligation on us. How do we pay forward?” 

 Salute to all of you who have shown sentiments. 

 “I hope COVID teaches people to save and plan for a secured future. I have to push them to get into a habit of savings once this emergency is over. ” Jayantibhai shared a very honest observation. 

 Jayantibhai is often referred to as VSSM’s 108 – a person you reach out during emergencies. I am glad that you are part of us.

'કોણે આપ્યો?'

'આપણા પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ હજુ વણસવાની. લોકો ખાવાનું આપોની રાવ કરી રહ્યા છે. તે મારુ અનુદાન..'

5000ની રકમના અનુદાનનો ચેક.. મે હાથમાં લીધો ને જયંતીભાઈ બજાણિયા મારી સાથે સેવાકાર્યમાં જોડાયાનો વખત યાદ આવ્યો.

કેવા ગુસ્સાવાળા. ખોટું જરા પણ ન ચલાવે એવા તડને ફડ કરવાવાળા જયંતીભાઈ 2006 થી સ્વંયમભૂૂ મારી સાથે આવ્યા.

નાનકડી સેવક સહાય તો બહુ પાછળથી આપવાની શરૃ કરેલી પણ ક્યારેય પૈસાને લઈને અમે કોઈ વાત કર્યાનું મને યાદ નથી.. આજેય એમને અમે કાંઈ બહુ મોટું ચુકવતા નથી. પણ એમની પાસે જે છે એમાંથીયે થોડું આપવાની ભાવના કેળવાવી એ મારે મન અગત્યનું.

રવજીભગત (બજાણિયા) કહ્યું, 'બેને આટલી મદદ કરી હવે આપણો વારો.. આપણે મફતનું લેવાનું નહીં કરીએ એય બેનને કરેલી મોટી મદદ છે..'

ભગતના આ શબ્દો મારા મનને શાતા પહોંચાડે છે..

અમારી હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણતા ભરત અને સંજયે પોતાની વર્ષોની બચત જેમાં ભેગી કરી રાખી હતી તે ગલ્લો ખોલ્યો અને તેમાંથી નીકળેલા 2500 રાશનકીટ માટે પેટીએમ થકી અમને મોકલી આપ્યા.

તો રાવજીભાઈ બજાણિયા લાકડાનો નાનો વેપાર કરે. એમણે 5001નું અનુદાન જયંતીભાઈને ફોન કરીને લઈ જવા કહ્યું.

આ દિવસોમાં લાખોનું અનુદાન આપનાર અમારા પ્રિયજનોની લાઈનમાં આ લોકો ઊભા છે..

હોય એમાંથી આપવાનું બધા કરી શકે પણ થોડું હોય એમાંથી થોડું કાઢી આપવા દીલેરી જોઈએ..

કેટલાક પરિવારો એવા પણ મળ્યા જેમણે કહ્યું, બેન ઊછીના પાછીના કરીને આ દિવસો નીકળે એની વ્યવસ્થા કરીશું. ધંધા શરૃ થશે એટલે એ બધુ ભરાઈ જશે પણ ધર્માદુ ખાઈને એને ક્યાં ચુકવવું?

આવી ઉત્તમભાવના વાળા આપ સૌને પ્રણામ..

જયંતીભાઈ કહે, કોરાનાની આ મહામારીમાંથી લોકો બચત અને આયોજન શીખે તો ઘણું. મારે તો આ બધા પછી આ બાબતમાં વધારે કામે લાગવું છે...

જયંતીભાઈ જેમને હું VSSMની 108 કહુ છુ. તમે સાથે છો એનો આનંદ વ્યકત કરુ છુ.
