On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, as Bhishma Pitamah lay upon his bed of arrows, Yudhishthira asked him, “Grandfather, what is the noblest deed in this world?” Bhishma replied with profound wisdom, “The greatest virtue is to undertake work that nourishes Mother Earth and provides sustenance to thousands of living beings. Such work is the work of water conservation.”

In earlier times, prosperous and wealthy people built ponds, lakes, and stepwells. They regarded these efforts as their highest duty and a true expression of compassion toward all forms of life.

Today, while we generously support causes that benefit people, we often overlook the countless other creatures that share this planet with us. Helping fellow human beings is important, but we must also remember our responsibility toward nature and all living beings.

When we feed a hungry person, they may thank us. But an ant, a turtle, a bird, or a rabbit cannot express their gratitude in words. Perhaps that is why efforts that benefit nature and wildlife often receive less attention.

Tulsidas beautifully wrote in the Ramcharitmanas:

“Par hit saris dharma nahi bhai”

There is no religion greater than working for the welfare of others.

The true challenge lies in understanding this wisdom and putting it into practice.

Inspired by this eternal truth, VSSM has been carrying out water conservation and tree plantation initiatives for many years. So far, we have deepened 456 village ponds, creating storage capacity for billions of liters of water. These water bodies have become a source of life and relief for countless animals, birds, and farming families.

Several villages in Dahegam Taluka of Gandhinagar district are facing severe water scarcity. Groundwater levels have declined drastically. To address this challenge, we have set a goal of deepening 20 village ponds this year. Work has already begun on a Jal Mandir (Water Temple) in Anguthala village.

This project is being made possible through a small contribution from the Government of Gujarat’s Sujalam Sufalam Scheme, generous financial support from our respected donor Ullasbhai Paymaster, and the cooperation of local villagers who are helping remove the excavated soil. It is truly a collective effort.

This pond will not only harvest rainwater but will also receive water from Ma Reva—the sacred Narmada River. As a result, it will remain filled throughout the year and bring transformative change to the village.

If every village resolves to maintain and preserve its own ponds by mobilizing local resources and community contributions, there would be no need to wait for support from organizations or government agencies.

People like Ullasbhai understand that where there is water, there is life, and where there is life, there is true service and true dharma. We are deeply grateful for their support.

May God grant all of us the wisdom and inspiration to participate in this noble, life-giving mission. Water conservation is not merely an environmental effort—it is an act of compassion, a service to all living beings, and one of the highest forms of dharma.

કુરુક્ષેત્રના રણમેદાનમાં જ્યારે ભીષ્મ પિતામહ બાણશૈયા પર સૂતા હતા, ત્યારે યુધિષ્ઠિરે પૂછ્યું, “પિતામહ, આ જગતમાં સૌથી શ્રેષ્ઠ કર્મ કયું?” પિતામહે ગહન જવાબ આપતા કહ્યું, “જે કર્મ હજારો જીવોને તૃપ્તિ આપે, આપણી આ ધરતી માને પોષણ આપે, તેવું ‘જળનું કાર્ય’ કરવું એ સૌથી મોટું પુણ્યકર્મ”

પહેલાના સમયમાં સુખી-સંપન્ન લોકો તળાવો ગળાવતા, વાવ બંધાવતા. એ બધા આને સાચો ધર્મ માનતા. આમ તો એમની તમામ જીવસૃષ્ટિ પ્રત્યે આ સંવેદના. આજે આપણે દાન કરીએ છીએ, પણ ઘણીવાર તેમાં સમજણનો અભાવ દેખાય. આપણે માણસોના કાર્યો માટે દોડીને મદદ કરીએ. કરવી પણ જોઈએ, એમાં મારી ના નથી. પણ માત્ર મનુષ્ય કલ્યાણમાં મોખરે રહેનાર આપણે આ ધરતી પર અન્ય જીવો છે એને કેમ ભૂલી જઈએ છીએ.

કદાચ કોઈ ભૂખ્યાની આંતરડી ઠારીએ તો એ આભાર કહેશે. પણ કીડી, કાચબો કે સસલું એના માટે કરેલા શુભકાર્યને લઈને આપણને બોલીને આભાર નથી કહેતા કદાચ એટલે એમના કલ્યાણના કાર્યોમાં આપણને ઓછો રસ પડે છે?

તુલસીદાસજીએ રામચરિતમાનસમાં સુંદર વાત કહી છે, “પર હિત સરિસ ધર્મ નહિ ભાઈ |” એટલે કે બીજાના હિત જેવો કોઈ મોટો ધર્મ નથી. પણ આ બધુ સમજી વ્યવહારમાં ઉતારવું અગત્યનું.

VSSM આ શાશ્વત સત્યને પકડીને વર્ષોથી જળસંચય અને વૃક્ષારોપણનું કાર્ય કરે, અત્યાર સુધીમાં 456 જેટલા તળાવો ઊંડા કર્યા છે. જેમાં અબજો લીટર પાણીનો સંગ્રહ થયો છે. જે લાખો જીવો અને ખેડૂતોને સાતા આપે છે.

ગાંધીનગરના દહેગામ તાલુકાના ઘણા ગામોમાં પણ જળની સ્થિતિ કપરી. ભૂગર્ભજળ ખૂબ નીચે ગયા છે, આવા ગામોના 20 તળાવો આ વર્ષે ઊંડા કરવાનું લક્ષ્ય છે. જેમાંના અંગૂથલા ગામમાં જલમંદિરનું કાર્ય અમે આરંભ્યું.

સરકારશ્રીની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજનાનો નાનકડો ટેકો. અમારા આદરણીય ઉલ્લાસભાઈ પેમાસ્ટરની મોટી આર્થિક મદદ ને માટી ઉપાડવા ગામનો સહયોગ આમ સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી આ કાર્ય થઈ રહ્યું છે.

આ તળાવમાં હવે માત્ર વરસાદનું જ નહીં, પણ ‘મા રેવા’ (નર્મદા) ના નીર પણ આવશે. જેનાથી આખું વર્ષ તળાવ ભરેલું રહેશે ને ગામની કાયાપલટ થશે.

જો દરેક ગામ પોતે સંકલ્પ કરે ને ગામના જ લોકો ભેગા મળીને અનુદાન એકત્રિત કરી પોતાના ગામના તળાવોને કાયમ સાબદા રાખવાનું કરે તો અમારા જેવી કોઈ સંસ્થા કે સરકારની રાહ જોવી નહીં પડે. ઉલ્લાસભાઈ જેવા અનેક સ્વજનો જ્યાં જળ છે, ત્યાં જ જીવન છે ને ત્યાં જ સાચો ધર્મ છે એવું માને છે એટલે આવા કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરે છે. એમના અમે આભારી છીએ.

ઈશ્વર સૌને આ ભગીરથ કાર્યમાં જોડાવવાની સન્મતિ આપે એ જ પ્રાર્થના.

 The people living in the lower settlement of Dhroi village in Khedbrahma of Sabarkantha shared their concern with us:

‘As long as this pond holds water, we have the right to drinking water. We also use this water for farming. But the pond is shallow, so it cannot store much water. Because of this, we do not get enough water for the winter crop. Once the pond dries up, we have to carry pots on our heads or cans in our hands and walk long distances to fetch water. Even giving water to our cattle becomes difficult.’

The people living in the lower settlement receive water through a pipeline connected to the pond. But once the pond dries up, the pipeline also runs dry.

Through the joint partnership of the government’s Sujalam Sufalam Yojana and Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation,we undertook the work of deepening this pond. Earlier, the water in the pond would dry up by the end of winter. Now, after the excavation, the villagers are hopeful that water will remain available until summer. They also believe they will now be able to cultivate a proper winter crop.

Apart from this, the villagers requested that a hand pump be installed. Their economic condition is weak. Most of them own just one or two vighas of land. On these small farms, they grow enough maize or wheat to feed their families for the year. Beyond this, they work as laborers wherever they can find employment nearby. In such circumstances, constructing a hand pump on their own is impossible for them.

The government should ideally provide a water supply system, but for some reason it has not happened yet. ‘Nal Se Jal’ — water through taps to every household — still remains a distant dream here.

We will try our best to arrange a hand pump. And now that the pond has been deepened and can hold more water, there is hope that the hand pump too will have a sustainable water source.

When we asked the villagers when this pond was originally dug, they replied, ‘We do not remember.’

There are countless such ponds still waiting to be restored. If these ponds are revived and filled with water, many water-related problems can find lasting solutions.

We did whatever we could from our side. Special thanks to respected Pratulbhai Shroff. His partnership with the government made this pond restoration possible. Since the tribal families do not own tractors, the work of removing and transporting the excavated soil was carried out through his support.

So far, 380 ‘Jal Mandirs’ (water reservoirs) have been restored. In the coming years, the goal is to restore 1,000 Jal Mandirs. May God help fulfill this noble mission.”

આ તળાવમાં જેટલો સમય પાણી ભરાયેલું રહે એટલો સમય માટે અમને પીવાના પાણીનું હખ રહે. ખેતીમાં પણ અમે આ પાણી વાપરીએ. પણ તળાવ છીછરુ એટલે એમાં ઝાઝુ પાણી ન ભરાય. એટલે શિયાળુ પાકમાં અમને પુરતુ પાણી ન મળે. આ પાણી સુકાય એટલે અમારે માથે બેડા કાં હાથમાં ડબ્બા લઈને દૂર દૂર પાણી ભરવા જવું પડે. ઢોરને પાણી પીવડાવવામાં પણ તકલીફ પડે."

સાબરકાંઠાના ખેડબ્રહ્માના ધરોઈ(ધ્રોઈ)ગામના નીચા ફળિયામાં રહેતા લોકોએ આ વાત કરી. તળાવમાંથી એક પાઈપ વાટે નીચા ફળિયામાં રહેતા લોકોને પાણી મળે. પણ તળાવ સુકાય એટલે પાઈપમાં પાણી ન આવે. 

સરકારની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજના અને ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનની સંયુક્ત ભાગીદારીમાં અમે આ તળાવ ખોદ્યું. શિયાળો ઉતરતા તળાવમાંથી પાણી સુકાઈ જતું. હવે તળાવ ખોદાતા ઉનાળા સુધી પાણી રહે તેવી લોકોને આશા છે. શિયાળુ પાક પુરતો લઈ શકાશે એવી પણ એમને આશા છે. 

આ સિવાય લોકોએ એક હેન્ડપંપ બનાવી અપો તો સારુ એવી વાત કરી. એમની આર્થિક દશા નબળી છે. એક - બે વીધા જમીનના આ માલીકો. એમાં એ નાનકડી ખેતી કરે જેથી આખા વર્ષની મકાઈ કે ઘઉં એ પોતાના પરિવાર માટે પકવી શકે. આ સિવાય આજુબાજુ જ્યાં પણ મજૂરી મળે ત્યાં એ જાય. આવામાં પોતાના માટે હેન્ડપંપ જાતે બનાવવાનું તો એ કરી ન શકે. સરકાર દ્વારા પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા થવી જોઈએ પણ એ કોઈકકારણસર નથી થઈ. નલ સે જલ તો અહીંયા ક્યારે થશે એ સવાલ છે.

હેન્ડપંપ થાય એવો પ્રયત્ન કરીશું. ને તળાવ ખોદાયું એમાં પાણી ભરાયું એટલે હેન્ડપંપમાં પણ પાણી મળી રહેશે. 

આ તળાવ ક્યારે ખોદાયું તો એવું લોકોને પુછ્યું તો એમણે કહ્યું, અમને યાદ નથી. અસંખ્ય તળાવો છે જે ખોદાવવાની વાટ જોઈ રહ્યા છે. એ બધા ખોદાય ને એમાં પાણી ભરાય તો પાણીની સમસ્યાનો ઉકેલ આવી શકે..

ખેર અમે અમારાથી બનતું કર્યું. આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ નો ઘણો આભાર. સરકાર સાથે એમણે ભાગીદારી કરી એટલે આ તળાવ ખોદાવવાનું શક્ય બન્યું. કારણ આદિવાસી પરિવારો પાસે પોતાના ટ્રેક્ટર ન હોય એટલે માટી ઉપાડવાનું કામ એમણે કર્યું.

These utensils you have given us… we did not receive this many even at the time of my wedding. A saucer and kettle for tea, a rolling pin, a grater, a water pot, plates, bowls, cooking pots — what all should I count? With this, someone could start a completely new household. You have given us so much… May God bless you and everyone who contributed to this work…”

These heartfelt words were spoken by Shardaba, who had come from Achhuva village. Though she is much older in age, she affectionately tells me, “You are my sister.”

The floods of 2025 caused massive destruction in the border regions of Gujarat, especially in many villages of Banaskantha, Patan, and Kutch. During that time, we delivered ration supplies to more than 2,000 families. In some places, ration kits had to be distributed twice. Families taking shelter in schools received great relief from this support.

However, once the floodwaters receded and people reopened their homes, many discovered that the water had broken through the back walls of their houses and swept away their belongings. In other places, water remained stagnant for days, ruining household items. Many families were left without even basic utensils to cook food.

While sharing the pain and hardships they endured during the floods, tears welled up in the eyes of many.

We identified such families and decided to provide them with utensil kits. The distribution took place at the agricultural market in Vav. Seeing the utensils, many families emotionally remarked, “You have filled our mameru (a traditional gift given to a daughter from her maternal family).”

This work became possible with the support of many well-wishers associated with VSSM. We were merely instruments in this effort, but the real joy was in seeing so many loved ones come together in response to a single call for help.

The floods of 2015, 2017, and 2025 have repeatedly caused devastation to these families. Because of this, we have been thinking about relocating them from low-lying areas to safer, elevated land. Respected Bhagwanbhai (Kaka) Panchal discussed this matter with our Honorable Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, and discussions were also held with the Collector of the Vav–Tharad district. A proposal has already been submitted in the first phase to allot plots on higher ground to around 150 families. Details of more families will also be submitted soon.

If the government provides land to these families, then through the support of well-wishers associated with the organization, we will also help in constructing homes for them. We will continue striving to ensure that the plots are allotted as quickly as possible.

Our greatest happiness lies in being able to bring smiles back to the faces of these families.

We placed the utensil kits in front of the families rather than directly handing them over one by one, because we did not want it to feel like charity being imposed upon them.”

આ તમેં જે વાહણો(વાસણો) આલ્યા એવા તો મારા લગન ટાણે પૂરતમોય નતા મલ્યા. ચા પીવા રકેબી, કીટલી, ઓરસિયો, વેલણ, કોક ખોડવું હોય તો ખોડણી, પોણી ભરવા બેડું, થાળી, વાટકો, તપેલી. ચેટલું ગણાવું? આ કોકન્ નવું રહોડુ ચાલુ કરવું હોય તો થઈ જાય. એટલું તમે આલ્યું.. ભગવોન તમારુ ન આ બધુ દેવાવાળા બધોનું ખૂબ હારુ કર..."

આછુવાથી આવેલા શારદાબાએ ભાવથી આ કહ્યું.. શારદાબા ઉંમરમાં બહુ મોટા પણ મને કે, "તુ મારી બેનપણી."

2025માં આવેલા પૂરે ગુજરાતના સરહદી વિસ્તારો એટલે કે બનાસકાંઠા, પાટણ અને કચ્છના ઘણા ગામોમાં ભારે તારાજી સર્જી. એ વખતે અમે 2000 થી વધારે પરિવારોને રાશન પહોંચાડ્યું. કેટલીક જગ્યાએ તો બે વખત રાશન આપ્યું. નિશાળમાં આશરો લઈને બેઠેલા પરિવારોને એનાથી ઘણી રાહત થઈ. 

પણ પૂરના પાણી ઓસર્યા પછી ઘર ખોલ્યા તો ક્યાંક પાણી ઘરની પછીત તોડીને ઘરનો સામાન લઈને વહી ગયેલાનુું આ પરિવારોએ જોયું. તો ક્યાંક દિવસો સુધી પાણી ભરાયેલા રહ્યા એના કારણે સામાન બગડી ગયાનું થયું. ઘણા પાસે રાંધવા સરખા વાસણો પણ ન રહ્યા. 

પૂર વખતે જે પીડા વેઠી એની વાતો કરતા કરતા ઘણાની આંખોના ખૂણા ભીના થયા.     

અમે આવા પરિવારોને શોધી તેમને વાસણ આપવાનું કર્યું. વાસણ આપવાનું કાર્ય વાવના ખેતીવાડી માર્કેટમાં કર્યું. એ વખતે હાજર પરિવારોમાંથી ઘણાએ વાસણ જોઈને, "આ તો તમે મામેરુ ભર્યું" એવું કહ્યું. 

VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા અનેક સ્વજનોની મદદથી આ કાર્ય સંભવ બન્યું. અમે તો આમાં નિમિત્ત હતા. પણ આનંદ એક હાકલ પાડી ને ઘણા પ્રિયજનો સાથે આવ્યા એનો..

2015,2017 અને 2025 એમ સળંગ પૂરના પાણી આ પરિવારોને નુકશાન કરી રહ્યા છે. આવામાં એમને નીચાણવાળી જગ્યામાંથી ઊંચાણવાળી જગ્યામાં લઈ જવાનું કરવાનું વિચાર્યું. આપણા મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલ સાથે આદરણીય ભગવાનભાઈ(કાકા) પંચાલે વાત કરી સાથે વાવ-થરાદ જિલ્લાના કલેક્ટર શ્રી સાથે પણ આ બાબતે વાત થઈ. અંદાજે 150 પરિવારોની ઊંચાણવાળી જગ્યામાં પ્લોટ આપવાની દરખાસ્ત તૈયાર કરીને પ્રથમ તબક્કામાં આપી છે. હજુ પણ બીજા પરિવારોની વિગતો આપીશું.

આ પરિવારોને સરકાર જગ્યા આપશે તો મકાન બાંધવામાં સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત મદદ કરીશું અને પ્લોટ ઝટ મળે એ માટે અમે મથીશું પણ ખરા. 

અમને આનંદ આ પરિવારોના મોંઢા પર સ્મીત લાવી શક્યાનો...

From Borewells to Ponds: Ensuring Water Security in Soni...

Soni Village in Banaskantha – a village with 100% irrigated farming.

The village has around 400 borewells, and for the past 15 years, water has been available at a depth of 1,000 feet. Ashwinbhai from Soni Village has always stood firmly with our efforts. When we saw the situation, we decided to deepen the village ponds. VSSM constructed three ponds in the village.

These ponds were deepened with the help of the Mahendra Brother Parikh Foundation. When the ponds were completed, our enthusiasm was so high that we visited them even in the heavy rains to see the results.

To see the ponds, the entire team from the Mahendra Brother Parikh Foundation, along with members from Mumbai, came and understood firsthand the village’s condition during rainfall and why rain is so crucial.

We pray that God always allows us to be part of such noble work.

સોની ગામના અશ્વિનભાઈ અમારા કાર્યોમાં હંમેશ ખડે પગે રહે આ સ્થિતિ જયારે અમે જોઈ ત્યારે અમે આ ગામમાં તળાવ ઊંડા કરવાનું વિચાર્યું. ગામમાં ૩ તળાવ VSSM એ બનાવ્યા

આ તળાવ મહેન્દ્ર બ્રધર પરીખ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી ઊંડું કર્યું. જયારે આ તળાવ બન્યું એટલે અમારો ઉત્સાહ પણ એવો કે અમે આ તળાવ જોવા વરસતા વરસાદે પણ મળ્યા. 

આ તળાવ જોવા માટે મહેન્દ્ર બ્રધર પરીખ ફાઉન્ડેશનમાંથી આખી ટીમ આવી મુંબઈથી આવેલા સભ્યોએ પણ વરસાદમાં શું હાલત હોય અને વરસાદ કેમ જરૂરી છે તે પણ સમજ્યા.

In VardhanaMuwada village of  Gandhinagar district, the water scarcity was so severe that it was hard to forget. There was a time when no family would agree to give their daughter in marriage because of the lack of water. Even when guests visited, the lady of the house would worry about water. During vacations, it was common for children not to visit relatives because of water issues.

When the government started supplying water to the village pond through the Narmada pipeline, the situation improved slightly. However, since the pond had not been desilted for years, the water did not seep into the ground as needed. VSSM, with financial support from Priya Rishi and Sunita Ben and the active participation of the villagers, deepened the pond.

This monsoon, the pond filled with both Narmada water and rainwater, immediately benefiting nearby farmers. Next to the pond is the farmland of farmer Mahendragriri from Jaliya Mata village. He said, “My borewell is 320 feet deep. Every year, I had to lower the pipe further. Now, because the pond was deepened and the water recharged, I get water at 280 feet. I had to remove three columns, but earlier I ran a 20 HP motor, and now a 15 HP motor is enough. The borewell is now working perfectly.”

This is a living example of how desilting and restoring a pond can solve water problems. Many may not believe that Gandhinagar district faces water issues, but statistical data shows that over 300 villages in the district struggle with water scarcity. According to the Central Government’s Groundwater Report (2022), nearly 65% of borewells in Gandhinagar district are now deeper than 300 feet, whereas 15 years ago the average depth was 120–150 feet. The district uses approximately 2,200 million cubic meters of water annually, while the natural recharge capacity is only 1,600 million cubic meters, creating an annual deficit of 600 million cubic meters.

The government is attempting to recharge these depleted ponds by filling them with water from the Narmada. At the local level, arrangements such as ponds, wells, and check dams are also needed to recharge rainwater effectively.

In many villages of Gandhinagar district, the government fills ponds with Narmada water, but all these ponds must be properly desilted first for effective recharge. Hopefully, the government will launch the Sujalam Sufalam campaign this January and involve organizations and people genuinely interested in public welfare.

ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લાના વર્ધાના મુવાડા ગામે પાણીની કટોકટી ભૂલાય તેવી નહોતી. એક સમય ગામના છોકરાઓને લગ્ન માટે દિકરી આપવા કોઈ રાજી નહોતું. પાણીની અછત એટલે ઘરમાં મહેમાનો આવે તો પણ ઘરધણીને ચિંતા થાય. વેકેશનમાં ભાણેજીયા મામાના ઘરે ન આવવાના કિસ્સા અહીં સામાન્ય હતા.

સરકાર દ્વારા નર્મદા પાઈપલાઈન મારફતે ગામના તળાવમાં પાણી આપવાનું શરૂ થયું એટલે પરિસ્થિતિમાં થોડો સુધારો આવ્યો. તળાવ વર્ષોથી ગળાયેલું ન હોવાના કારણે પાણી જમીનમાં જોઈએ તેવું ઉતરતું નહોતું. VSSMએ પ્રિય ઋષી અને સુનિતાબેનની આર્થિક મદદથી અને ગ્રામજનોની ભાગીદારીથી તળાવ ઊંડુ કર્યું.

આ ચોમાસે નર્મદાના પાણીની સાથે સાથે વરસાદી પાણીથી તળાવ ભરાયું, જેના કારણે આસપાસના ખેડૂતોને તુરત જ લાભ થવા માંડ્યો. તળાવની બાજુમાં જાલિયાના મઠ ગામના ખેડૂત મહેન્દ્રગીરીની જમીન છે. એમણે જણાવ્યું કે, “મારો બોર 320 ફૂટનો. દર વર્ષે પાઈપ નીચે ઉતારવી પડતી. હવે તળાવ ખોદાવવાથી ને પાણી રીચાર્જના લીધે મને 280 ફૂટે પાણી મળવા માંડ્યું. મારે ત્રણ કોલમ બહાર કાઢવી પડી. પહેલા 20 હોર્સ પાવરની મોટર ચાલતી, હવે 15 હોર્સ પાવરની પૂરતી છે. બોર હવે સરસ રીતે ચાલે છે.”

તળાવનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર કરીએ તો પાણીની સમસ્યાનો ઉકેલ આવે તેનું આ જીવંત ઉદાહરણ.  ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લામાં જળ સમસ્યા હોઈ શકે એ વાત કોઈના માનવામાં ન આવે પણ આંકડાકીય વિગતો તપાસીએ તો જિલ્લાના 300થી વધુ ગામોમાં પાણીની તંગીનો સામનો કરી રહ્યા છે. કેન્દ્ર સરકારના ગ્રાઉન્ડ વોટર રિપોર્ટ (2022) અનુસાર ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લાના લગભગ 65% બોરવેલ 300 ફૂટથી ઊંડા છે, જયારે 15 વર્ષ પહેલાં સરેરાશ 120–150 ફૂટે હતા. જિલ્લો દર વર્ષે અંદાજે 2,200 મિલિયન ક્યુબિક મીટર પાણીનો ઉપયોગ કરે છે, જયારે કુદરતી રિચાર્જ ક્ષમતા માત્ર 1,600 મિલિયન ક્યુબિક મીટર છે. એટલે દર વર્ષે પાણીના ખાલીપામાં 600 મિલિયન ક્યુબિક મીટરનો વધારો થાય છે. જો કે સરકાર મા રેવાનું પાણી તળાવોમાં નાખી આ ખાલી થયેલા તળને રીચાર્જ કરવા પ્રયત્નશીલ છે. સ્થાનિક સ્તરે તળાવ, કૂવો, ચેકડેમ વગેરે થકી વરસાદી પાણીના રિચાર્જની વ્યવસ્થાઓ પણ કરવી પડશે. 

ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લાના ઘણા ગામોમાં સરકાર નર્મદાના પાણીથી તળાવ ભરે પણ એ બધા તળાવો એક વખત સરખા ખોદાય તે જરૃરી. એ ખોદાશે તો પાણી રીચાર્જ થશે. આશા રાખીએ સરકાર આ વખતે સુજલામ સુફલામ અભિયાન જાન્યુઆરીથી શરૃ કરે ને સાચા અર્થમાં જેમને લોકોના ભલામાં રસ છે એવા લોકો- સંસ્થાઓને આ કાર્યમાં જોડે.

 VardhanaMuwada village in , Gandhinagar district, has long struggled with water scarcity. Through the efforts of VSSM, the village pond was deepened, and today it is brimming with rainwater and water from the Narmada River.

The villagers came together to celebrate and joyfully welcomed the water. Along with the water, hope, prosperity, and new possibilities for the future have also arrived in the village. 💧🌾

We get a lot of rain in our area... and we truly consider that this time about 90 inches of rain fell... but the rainwater just flows away because our soil is very hard, so the water doesn’t stay.

When we went to see the eroding pond in Medh village of Sabarkantha, the village Sarpanch Narendra Singh Bhati told us:

"There are very large stones in the soil here, which we saw while digging the pond. Because of these stones, the water does not seep into the ground but flows away. So, we are constructing this pond with financial support from the respected Pratulbhai Shroff of Dr. K.R. Shroff and Dineshbhai Amin."

However, ponds are the foundation of all life, so for the past several years, we have been working on the restoration of these vital ponds, which are the heart of the village. So far, we have restored 376 ponds, which we call Jalmandirs. Our resolve is to restore 1,000 Jalmandirs in the coming years.

One thing I learned here that was new and also made me happy — the villagers practice two cropping seasons and give the earth a season to rest. If all villages adopt this pattern like Medh, it won’t take long before Mother Earth is rejuvenated.

અમારા ત્યાં વરસાદ બહુ પડે... અમે તે ગણીએ પણ ખરા... કે આ વખતે ૯૦ ઇંચ વરસાદ પડ્યો... પણ તે વરસાદનું પાણી વહી જાય કારણ કે અમારી જમીન બહુ જ હાર્ડ એટલે પાણી ટકે નહિ...  આ વાત જયારે અમે સાબરકાંઠાના મેધ ગામે ગળાઈ રહેલા તળાવને જોવા ગયા ત્યારે મેધના સરપંચ  નરેન્દ્રસિંહ ભાટીએ કહી… 

અહીની જમીનમાં બહુ મોટા પથ્થરો જે તળાવ ખોદતી વખતે અમે જોયા. જેના કારણે પાણી ભૂગર્ભમાં ના જાય અને વહી જાય. જેથી આ તળાવ અમે ડૉ. કે.આર.શ્રોફના આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ અને દિનેશભાઈ અમીનના આર્થીક સહયોગથી બનાવી રહ્યા છીએ.

પણ, તળાવ સમગ્ર જીવસૃષ્ટિનો આધાર એટલે અમે પાછલા કેટલાક વર્ષોથી ગામનું હૃદય એવા તળાવોના જીર્ણોદ્ધારનું કાર્ય આરંભ્યું.  376 તળાવ જેને અમે જલમંદિર કહીએ એનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર અત્યાર સુધી કર્યો. આવનારા વર્ષોમાં 1000 જલમંદિરના જીર્ણોદ્ધારનો સંકલ્પ.

એક વાત જાણીને બહુ નવી લાગી સાથે ખુશી પણ થઇ... અહી ગામલોકો બે જ સીઝન ખેતી કરે છે અને એક સીઝન આ ધરતીમાતાને આરામ આપે. આ મેધ જેવું વલણ જો બધા ગામો અપનાવે તો ધરતીમાતાને ફરી હતી તેવી થતા સમય નહિ લાગે....

A pond is not merely a vessel to hold water — it is a lifeline for countless living beings. Indeed, the underbelly of a village also remains alive and vibrant only when the pond is full. We all believed this before technology took hold of our lives. However, once we discovered an easy and accessible solution to extract water from underground, we began to overlook the importance of ponds.

However, since ponds are the very foundation of the ecosystem, we began several years ago, the work of restoring these vital village waterbodies — the heart of the community. So far, we have rejuvenated 376 ponds, which we refer to as *Jal Mandir* (Water Temples). Our goal is to restore 1,000 such *Jal Mandirs* in the coming years.

Mojaru is a beautiful village in the old Banaskantha district. There, we deepened the village pond with the support of the government’s Sujalam Sufalam scheme and the respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff and the Dr. K.R. Shroff Foundation. In the next year or so, water from Maa Reva-Narmada is expected to reach this pond. Hence, we have prepared the pond to be capable of storing that water. The area’s MLA, Keshaji Chauhan, has made dedicated efforts to bring Reva’s waters to the region's ponds. To ensure that rainwater properly flows into the pond, we also thoroughly cleaned the water channels. We now hope for generous blessings from the rain gods.

Groundwater in the village has sunk to unimaginable depths. Borewells are no longer yielding sufficient water — because the aquifers are empty. When ponds fill, farmers will be able to irrigate directly from them. And when water seeps into the ground, the water table will rise again.

Our team members — Naranbhai, Jayeshbhai, Ratnabhai, Hareshbhai, Jorabhai, and others — remain actively involved in water and environmental initiatives, which makes this work possible. We take great pride in having such committed partners.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to the government and to Pratulbhai — it is thanks to their dedication that this mission has come to fruition. We invite everyone to join in this effort that is being carried out with the pure intent of collective well-being.

તળાવ પાણી ભરવાનું વાસણ માત્ર નથી પણ એ અનેક જીવોને ધબકતા રાખવાનું માધ્યમ. અલબત ગામનું પેટાળ પણ તળાવ પાણીથી ભરાયેલું રહે તો જ ચેતનવંતુ રહે. આ વાત ટેકનોલોજીએ આપણા જીવનમાં સ્થાન નહોતું લીધુ ત્યાં સુધી આપણે સૌ માનતા. પણ પેટાળમાંથી પાણી કાઢવાનો સરળ, હાથવગો ઉકેલ મળ્યો ને આપણે તળાવના મહત્વને ભૂલ્યા.

પણ તળા સમગ્ર જીવસૃષ્ટિનો આધાર એટલે અમે પાછલા કેટલાક વર્ષોથી ગામનું હૃદય એવા તળાવોના જીર્ણોદ્ધારનું કાર્ય આરંભ્યું.

376 તળાવ જેને અમે જલમંદિર કહીએ એનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર અત્યાર સુધી કર્યો. આવનારા વર્ષોમાં 1000 જલમંદિરના જીર્ણોદ્ધારનો સંકલ્પ.

મોજરુ જુના બનાસકાંઠાનું મજાનું ગામ. ત્યાંનું તળાવ અમે સરકારની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજના તેમજ અમારા આદરણીય શ્રી પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ ડો. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી ઊંડુ કર્યું. આ તળાવમાં આવનારા એકાદ દોઢ વર્ષમાં મા રેવા- નર્મદાના નીર આવવાના છે. એટલે નીરને ધારણ કરી શકે એવું તળાવ કર્યું. આ વિસ્તારના ધારાસભ્ય કેશાજી ચૌહાણની મહેનત પોતાના વિસ્તારના તળાવોમાં મા રેવાના પાણી આવે તે માટે જબરી.

વરસાદી પાણી તળાવમાં બરાબર આવે તે માટે અમે આવરા પણ બરાબર સાફ કર્યા છે. મેઘરાજા મહેર કરશે એવી આશા છે.

ગામના ભૂગર્ભજળ કલ્પના ન કરી શકાય એટલા ઊંડા પહોંચ્યા છે. બોરવેલ યોગ્ય માત્રમાં પાણી નથી કાઢી રહ્યા કારણ તળ ખાલી છે. તળાવ ભરાશે તો ખેડૂતો તળાવમાંથી પણ પિયત કરી શકશે. ને પાણી પેટાળમાં જશે તો તળ પણ ઉપર આવશે.

અમારા કાર્યકરો નારણભાઈ, જયેશભાઈ, રત્નભાઈ, હરેશભાઈ, જોરાભાઈ વગેરે સૌ પાણી અને પર્યાવરણના કાર્યોમાં સતત સક્રિય છે એટલે આ કાર્ય થાય છે. આવા સાથીદારો સાથે હોવાનો ગર્વ.

બસ સૌનું ભલું થાય એવી શુભભાવનાથી થઈ રહેલા આ કાર્યમાં સૌ જોડાય તેવી શુભભાવના.

 It is estimated that more than 7,000 borewells have been abandoned in the Diyodar and Lakhani regions. Borewell technology has only emerged over the past 35–40 years. In these four decades, excessive water extraction has caused the water tables to drop drastically, leading to dried aquifers.

Since 2014, we have been engaged in water conservation efforts in North Gujarat. Now, even the government has become active in this matter—though it has become a necessity. Among the 150 districts in India facing severe water crises, Banaskantha is one, and Lakhani is part of that.

A workshop was organized with the village leaders from all villages in the Lakhani taluka under the guidance of Diyodar and Lakhani MLA Shri Keshaji Chauhan and through the collective efforts of VSSM (Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch).

During this meeting, the MLA formed committees in each village to carry out water-related work, and guidance was given to ensure the committees function effectively.

VSSM has constructed many ponds and check dams in the area. The local villagers have also agreed to raise water charges and clean and deepen all local reservoirs.

The construction of 'Jal Mandirs' (temples of water, or water bodies) is essential for future generations. If we don’t create a “bank of water” for them, what will they survive on? That is the critical question—hence the importance of water conservation efforts.

It was also stated in the workshop that in any village where people contribute ₹200,000 to ₹250,000 for the renovation of ponds and offer their tractors for the removal of soil, VSSM will contribute ₹350,000 for excavation work.

Water cannot be manufactured, so conserving it is crucial. The time has come to wake up and let go of selfish interests—otherwise, it may soon be too late.

દિયોદર અને લાખણી વિસ્તારમાં બંધ પડેલા બોરવેલની સંખ્યા 7000 થી વધારે હોવાનું તારણ છે. આમ તો બોરવેલની ટેકનોલોજી પાછલા પાંત્રીસ – ચાલીસ વર્ષમાં આવી. આ ચાલીસ વર્ષમાં અમાપ પાણી ઉલેચાયા એટલે તળ તૂટ્યા અને જળ ખૂટ્યા. અમે 2014 થી ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં જળસંચયના કાર્યો કરીએ. હવે તો સરકાર પણ આ બાબતે સક્રિય થઈ છે. જો કે થવું પડે એવી સ્થિતિ થઈ છે. ભારતના દોઢસો જિલ્લાઓ જેઓ જળ બાબતે ગંભીર સ્થિતિમાં છે એમાં બનાસકાંઠા એક છે. લાખણી પણ એમાંનો એક. 

લાખણી તાલુકામાં આવેલા તમામ ગામોના આગેવાનો સાથે એક કાર્યશાળા લાખણી અને દિયોદરના ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી કેશાજી ચૌહાણની નિશ્રામાં અને VSSM ના સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી આયોજીત થઈ. 

આ બેઠકમાં ગામે ગામ પાણીના કામો કરવા માટે કમીટીની રચના ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી દ્વારા કરવામાં આવી અને આ કમીટી સઘન કામ કરી શકે તે માટે માર્ગદર્શન પણ આપવામાં આવ્યું. 

આ વિસ્તારમાં vssm એ ઘણા તળાવો અને ગ્રામવનો કર્યા છે. આ કાર્ય માટે ગ્રામજનો પોતાની રીતે પણ જળકર ઉઘરાવી ગામના તમામ જળાશયોની સાફ સફાઈ તેમજ જળાશય ઊંડા કરવાનું કાર્ય કરે તે માટે પણ વાત કરવામાં આવી. 

જલમંદિરનું નિર્માણ ભાવી પેઢી માટે અગત્યનું છે. પાણીની બેંક જો ભાવી પેઢીને નહીં આપીએ તો ખાઈશું શું એ સવાલ છે. માટે જળસંચયના કાર્યો કરવા અગત્યના છે. જે ગામ જલમંદિર એટલે તળાવના નવીનીકરણ માટે બે થી અઢી લાખનો ફાળો એકત્રીત કરશે એને માટી ઉપાડવા માટે પોતાના ટ્રેક્ટર આપશે તે ગામોમાં VSSM પોતે સાડા ત્રણ લાખ ખોદકામ માટે આપશે એવી વાત પણ આ કાર્યશાળા દરમ્યાન કરવામાં આવી.

જળ બનાવી નથી શકાતું માટે એને બચાવવું અગત્યનું. હવે સ્વાર્થ મુકી જાગવાનો સમય આવી ગયો છે નહીં ખરેખર ઘણું મોડુ થઈ જશે.

Yogakshem refers to two important concepts: "yog," which is the attainment of what has not yet been achieved, and "kshem," which involves protecting what has already been attained. Both actions are essential for a fulfilling life. We must strive to gain what we lack while also ensuring that what we have is safeguarded.

You might wonder why I'm discussing Yogakshem today, but it is crucial to do so. The condition of our lakes - Jal Mandirs has deteriorated significantly, which should never have happened. Our ancestors built lakes, wells, and stepwells to ensure everyone had access to water. While the world has advanced and we have developed new technologies for easier access to water, we have neglected these traditional resources that served us for centuries.

The Jal Mandirs, or lakes, were meant to be preserved, and it was our responsibility to protect them. Unfortunately, we did not fulfill our duty, leading to critically low groundwater levels.

In response to this situation, we have decided to rejuvenate these Jal Mandirs. So far, 336 Jal Mandirs have been revitalized through the efforts of well-wishers associated with VSSM and the Vimukt Foundation.

This year, we have set a target to renovate 50 lakes. Additionally, we have included Satlasana in our water conservation projects in North Gujarat.

Kothasana is a resourceful village where we worked to deepen the lake with the assistance of the respected Chandravadanbhai Shantilal Shah. Villagers actively participated by removing soil from the lake. The efforts made by the villagers and well-wishers affiliated with our organization will benefit many residents.

 યોગક્ષેમ- જે મળ્યું નથી તેની પ્રાપ્તિ એટલે ‘યોગ’ અને જે મળ્યું છે તેનું રક્ષણ કરવું તે ‘ક્ષેમ’. જીવનમાં આ બે ક્રિયા આપણે સતત કરવાની. જે મળ્યું નથી તે મેળવવા મથવાનું ને મળ્યું છે તે છિનવાઈ ન જાય તેની કાળજી રાખવાની.

તમને થશે આ આજે કેમ યોગક્ષેમની વાત કરે છે?

પણ વાત પડે તેવી છે. જલ મંદિરોની આજે જે દશા થઈ છે એ દશા કોઈ કાળે ન થવી જોઈએ. આપણા વડવાઓએ સમગ્ર જીવસૃષ્ટિ જળ મેળવી શકે તે માટે તળાવો, વાવ, કૂવાઓનું નિર્માણ કર્યું. દુનિયા વિકસી અને આપણને પાણી સરળતાથી મળી શકે તેવા સાધનો ઉપલબ્ધ થયા એટલે આપણી પાસે સદીઓથી જે વ્યવસ્થાઓ હતી તે આપણે ભૂલ્યા.

પણ જલમંદિરો ને ભૂલવાના નહોતા. એના રક્ષણની જવાબદારી હતી. જે બરાબર ન નિભાવી એટલે આપણા ભૂગર્ભજળ ઊંડે પહોંચ્યા.

અમે આવા જલમંદિરોનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. અત્યાર સુધી 336 જલ મંદિરોનું નિર્માણ VSSM અને વિમુક્ત ફાઉન્ડેશન સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત કર્યું. 

આ વર્ષે પણ 50 તળાવોના નવીનીકરણનો લક્ષાંક નિર્ધારીત કર્યો. ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં થઈ રહેલા જળસંચયના કાર્યોમાં આ વર્ષે સતલાસણાનો ઉમેરો થયો.

ગામલોકોએ માટી ઉપાડવાનું કર્યું. ગામ અને સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત થયેલા આ કામથી ગામના અનેકોને ફાયદો થશે.

Once the lake, which was once thriving with life, has dried up, the terrain, farming, cultural traditions, and the environment suffer significant decline. When the lake is filled with water, the soil remains lustrous, moist and fertile. Understanding this, our mission is to rejuvenate the lakes—Jal Mandirs. Since our campaign began in 2014, we have renovated 340 Jal Mandirs, and the mission continues to progress well.

Wardhana Muwada is a lovely village in the Gandhinagar district. However, water has vanished from the lower regions of this village, making it difficult to obtain drinking water. As a result, no one was willing to marry off their daughters to this village. Nephews also refused to visit their maternal uncles during vacations due to the water shortage. (Visiting and staying in maternal uncles' homes used to be a well-established tradition in villages many years ago.) 

Whenever water trucks were announced, both children and elders would rush to fetch water using whatever utensils they could find. Kalpeshbhai from the village recalls, "We would even fill the pot we used in the toilet. Women had to carry water pots on their heads from far-off places, which led to many women losing their hair." The water scarcity in the village resulted in tragic consequences.

Eventually, the government noticed the dire situation in this village. Gandhinagar's Dehgam had been classified as a dark zone, which refers to areas where water levels have reached dangerously low levels. In response, the government filled the lake in Wardhana Muwada with water from the Narmada River, alleviating the village's water scarcity issue. Once the lake was filled, the village dug a borewell nearby, bringing joy to the residents as they finally accessed drinking water. 

Although the village lake is large, it is not deep enough. If the lake were dug deeper, its capacity to hold water would increase. We began the deepening of the lake during the Diksha event for Sunitaben and Hrushi, with blessings from Pujya Hematnasuri Swarji Maharaj, who is beloved by the younger generation. The villagers also participated in this endeavor.

We organized a small gathering at the lake on the day we began excavating. The Gandhinagar MLA and local villagers were in attendance. As the lake deepens, its capacity for water retention will expand, allowing farmers to use the water for their crops for a longer period.

A great deal of energetic effort was contributed by our activists Tohidbhai and Maheshbhai in collaboration with village leader Kalpeshbhai.

એક વખત જીવનથી ધબકતું તળાવ જ્યારે સુકાય ત્યારે વરસાદ, ખેતી, પરંપરા અને પર્યાવરણ પણ સુકાય છે.

તળાવ પાણીથી ભરેલા રહે તો જમીન પણ પાણીદાર રહે. અમે આ વાતને સમજીએ માટે જ જલ મંદિરના જીર્ણોદ્ધાર ના કામો કરીએ. 2014થી આરંભેલી આ ઝૂંબેશથી અત્યાર સુધી 340 જલમંદિરોનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર કર્યો ને આ કાર્ય હજુ આગળ વધતું જ જાય છે.

ગાંધીનગરનું વર્ધાના મુવાડા. મજાનું ગામ. ધરતીકંપ પછી આ ગામના પેટાળમાંથી પાણી ગાયબ થઈ ગયું. પીવાના પાણી માટે તકલીફ પડે. પોતાની દીકરી આ ગામમાં આપવા કોઈ રાજી નહીં. તે ત્યાં સુધી કે વેકેશનમાં ભાણેજીયા મામાના ઘરે ન આવે.

પાણી આવ્યાની બૂમ પડે કે ઘરમાં નાના મોટા સૌ પાણી ભરવા બેસી જાય. ને જેટલા વાસણમાં ભરી શકાય એટલા વાસણમાં પાણી ભરી લે. ગામના કલ્પેશભાઈ કહે, "શૌચાલય જવા માટે વપરાતુ ડબલુ પણ અમે ભરી લઈએ. બહેનોના માથાના વાળ પાણી ઊંચકી ઊંચકીને જતા રહ્યા." ગામની પાણી પારાયણ બહુ મોટી.

ખેર સરકારનું ધ્યાન આ ગામ પર પડ્યું. જો કે ગાંધીનગરનું દેહગામ ડાર્કઝોન માં. ડાર્ક ઝોન એટલે જેના પેટાળ જોખમી સ્થિતિએ પહોંચ્યા છે તે વિસ્તાર.

સરકારે વર્ધાના મુવાડા ગામના તળાવમા મા નર્મદાના નીર નાંખ્યા. જેનાથી ગામને રાહત થઈ. તળાવ નજીક ગામે બોરવેલ કર્યોને હવે ગામને પીવના પાણીનું સુખ થયું. 

ગામનું તળાવ ઘણું મોટુ પણ એ બરાબર ઊંડુ નહીં.જો સરખુ ખોદય. ડેમ જેવું થાય તો પાણી ધારણ કરવાની ક્ષમતા વધી જાય. બસ અમે યુવા હૃદય સમ્રાટ પૂ. આચાર્યશ્રી હેમત્નસૂરી સ્વર્જી મહારાજના આશીર્વાદથી સુનિતાબેન અને ઋષિની દીક્ષા નિમિત્તે તેમજ ગ્રામજનોના સહયોગથી તળાવ ઊંડુ કરવાનું કાર્ય આરંભ્યું. 

તળાવ ખોદવાનું શરૃ કરવું હતું તે દિવસે તળાવમાં જ નાનકડો કાર્યક્રમ આયોજીત કર્યો. જેમાં ગાંધીનગરના ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી બલરાજસિંહ ચૌહાણ તેમજ ગ્રામજનો ખાસ ઉપસ્થિતિ રહ્યા. તળાવ ઊંડુ થતા એની જળ ધારણની ક્ષમતા વધશે. જેથી ખેડૂતો પણ ખેતીમાં પાણીનો લાંબા વખત સુધી ઉપયોગ કરી શકશે. 

અમારા કાર્યકર તોહીદભાઈ તેમજ મહેશભાઈની ગામના આગેવાન કલ્પેશભાઈ સાથે મળી તળાવ ઊંડુ થાય તે માટે ઘણી મહેતન..

પાણીની સ્થિતિ જ્યાં કપરી સ્થિતિ છે તેવા 34 તાલુકાઓમાંથી શક્યમાં જળસંચયના કાર્યો આરંભ્યાનો  VSSM ને આનંદ છે.

આવનારા વર્ષોમાં 1000 જલમંદિરોના નિર્માણનો સંકલ્પ છે. ઈશ્વર એ મનોરથ પૂર્ણ કરાવે તેવી અભ્યર્થના...

Padardi is a delightful village...

It’s one of those villages you can never forget...

We dug the village's main lake about four years ago. The lake filled with rainwater, but the government also made permanent provisions to fill it with Narmada water.

As soon as you enter the village, you see the beautiful lake, which was dug and then filled with water, bringing immense joy to the entire village.

On the bank of the lake, the villagers together built the Jogani Mata temple. The inauguration ceremony of this temple was organized, and the villagers extended an invitation. The contribution of VSSM in making the village water-sufficient is significant—how can we forget that? The invitation was extended with great respect, and the program honored them as well.

Seeing the lake filled with water brought great joy. The villagers said, "Every year, the water level of the lake goes down. So, every year, about ten new borewells are made. The cost of making one borewell is 10 to 12 lakhs. In addition, every year, the columns in some borewells need to be replaced. But VSSM dug the lake and filled it with water, so in the last three years, we haven't had to make a single new borewell, nor have we needed to replace any columns. In this way, we have saved around 3 crores. Additionally, 75 to 80 horsepower motors were needed to operate the borewells. This increased the electricity bill. Now, water is being used in the fields with a Rajkotiyu machine or a 5-horsepower motor. The benefits in animal husbandry and farming are tremendous."

We received help from Star Chemicals - Mumbai, especially from the respected Shri Sanjaybhai Shah, for digging Padardi's lake. We are grateful to him. Every year, he actively supports water conservation efforts. We are also thankful to the government for appropriately utilizing water resources. Narmada has become a lifeline for millions of people and animals...

Our team in Banaskantha, led by Naranbhai and other dedicated workers, has also made this a success. It's an honor to be part of such dedicated efforts.

પાદરડી મજાનું ગામ.. 

આમ તો ગણ ન ભૂલે એવું ગામ..

અમે ગામનું મુખ્ય તળાવ ચારેક વર્ષ પહેલા ખોદ્યું. આ તળાવમાં ચોમાસાનું પાણી તો ભરાયું. પણ સરકારે એને નર્મદાના પાણીથી ભરવાની જોગવાઈ પણ કાયમી ધોરણે કરી આપી. 

ગામમાં પ્રવેશતા જ અવાવરુ અને ખાલીખમ નજર આવતું તળાવ સરસ ખોદાયું ને પછી પાણીથી ભરાયું એનાથી આખુ ગામ રાજી રાજી.

ગામમાં તળાવની પાળે જોગણીમાતાનું મંદિર ગ્રામજનોએ સાથે મળીને બાંધ્યું. આ મંદિરનો પ્રતિષ્ઠા મહોત્વ આયોજીત થયો ને એમાં ગ્રામજનોએ આમંત્રણ પાઠવ્યું. ગામને પાણીદાર કરવામાં VSSM નો ફાળો મહત્વનો એ ગણ કેવી રીતે ભૂલાય? એવું ગામ માને એટલે આમંત્રણ પણ ભાવથી આપ્યું ને કાર્યક્રમમાં સન્માન પણ કર્યું. 

પાણીથી ભરાયેલું તળાવ જોઈને હરખાઈ જવાયું. ગામલોકોએ કહ્યું, “દર વર્ષે પાણીના તળ ઊંડા જાય. એટલે દર વર્ષે ગામમાં લગભગ દસ બોર નવા બને. એક બોર બનાવવાનો ખર્ચ 10 થી 12 લાખ થાય. આ સિવાય દર વર્ષે કેટલાક બોરમાં કોલમ ઉતારવી પડે. પણ VSSM એ તળાવ ગાળ્યું ને પાણીથી એ ભરાયું. એટલે પાછલા ત્રણ વર્ષમાં એક પણ નવો બોર બનાવવો નથી પડ્યો. કોલમ પણ બોરમાં નાખવી નથી પડતી. એ રીતે ગણીએ તો લગભગ 3 કરોડથી વધારેની બચત તો સીધી થઈ. આ સિવાય 75 થી 80 હોર્સ પાવરની મોટર બોરવેલ ચલાવવા ચલાવવી પડે. એનાથી બીલ વધારે હવે. હવે રાજકોટીયુ મશીન અથવા 5 હોર્સ પાવરની મોટરથી ખેતરમાં પિયત થાય. પશુપાલન અને ખેતીમાં થયેલો ફાયદો તો નોખો”

પાદરડીનું તળાવ ખોદાવવા અમને સ્ટાર કેમીકલ્સ - મુંબઈ આદરણીય સંજયભાઈ શાહે મદદ કરી. એમના અમે આભારી છીએ. દર વર્ષે જળસંચયના કામોમાં એ સક્રિય સહયોગ કરે. મા રેવાનું પાણી યોગ્ય રીતે ઉપયોગમાં લાવવાનું કરનાર સરકારના આભારી છીએ. નર્મદા કરોડો લોકો, જીવો માટે જીવાદોરી સાબિત થઈ.. 

બનાસકાંઠાની અમારા કાર્યકરોની ટીમ નારણભાઈ અને અન્ય તમામ કાર્યોકરોની મહેનત પણ રંગ લાવી રહી છે.. આવા સંનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકરો સાથે હોવાનું ગૌરવ..
