"There might be around five hundred families of ours throughout Gujarat. Just look at our situation; we are in a tough spot. We keep wandering around to find work. But our name is not listed among the nomadic communities..."

Rajubhai Oad, who lives in Vadodara, said this.

I couldn't understand why Rajubhai was saying this, given that the Oad community is included among the nomadic tribes. So, I told him, "The Oad community is indeed listed among the nomadic tribes."

"Yes, the Hindu Ods are included in the list, but we are Muslim Oads. The officials say that Muslim Oads are not part of the nomadic tribes, which is why we don’t receive certificates."

"Oh..."

"We have been living in makeshift shelters in Vadodara, Bhadrava, Baska, Himmatnagar, Kheda, Jethlod, and other villages for a long time. There are more than 500 of our shelters across Gujarat. Our financial condition is poor. We don’t have the means to buy land or a house. When we applied for residential plots for nomadic communities, the officials said, 'You don’t qualify as nomadic.'"

What a complicated issue... The population is quite small, yet we face difficulties in securing a permanent address.

Well, we will make a representation. But who knows when the fundamental issues of the nomadic communities will be resolved...

આખા ગુજરાતમાં અમારા પાંચસો પરિવાર માંડ હશે. સ્થિતિ તો તમે જુઓ છો અમે કેવામાં પડ્યા છીએ. માટી કામ કરવા અમે ફરતા રહેતા. પણ અમારુ નામ વિચરતી જાતિમાં નથી..’

વડોદરામાં રહેતા રાજુભાઈ ઓડ એ આ વાત કરી.

ઓડ સમુદાયનો સમાવેશ વિચરતી જાતિમાં થયો છે તો રાજુભાઈ આવું કેમ કહી રહ્યા છે મને સમજાયું નહીં. મે એમને કહ્યું,

‘ઓડ સમુદાયનો સમાવેશ વિચરતી જાતિમાં છે જ.’

‘હા, હિંદુ ઓડનો સમાવેશ યાદીમાં છે પણ અમે મુસ્લિમ ઓડ. અધિકારી કે છે કે મુસ્લિમ ઓડનો સમાવેશ વિચરતી જાતિમાં નથી. એટલે પ્રમાણપત્ર મળે નહીં.’

‘ઓહ...’

‘વડોદરા,ભાદરવા, બાસ્કા, હિંમતનગર ખેડા, જેઠલોદ વગેરે ગામોમાં અમે ઘણા વખતથી છાપરા કરીને રહીએ. આખા ગુજરાતમાં 500 થી વધુ અમારા છાપરા નથી. અમારી આર્થિક હાલત ખરાબ છે. જમીન કે ઘર ખરીદી શકીએ એવી તાકાત નથી. સરકાર વિચરતી જાતિઓને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવે તે અમે એ ઠરાવ હેઠળ અરજી કરી તો અધિકારી કે છે તમે વિચરતીમાં ન આવો..’

કેવો પેચીદો પ્રશ્ન.. જન સંખ્યા બહુ જ નાનકડી.. પણ કાયમી સરનામુ મેળવવામાં મુશ્કેલી.

ખેર અમે રજૂઆત કરીશું. પણ કોણ જાણે વિચરતી જાતિઓના પ્રાથમિક પ્રશ્નોનો ઉકેલ ક્યારે આવશે...

Mittal Patel visited devipujak families of Dahisrda village

 8 Devipujak families reside in Dahisrda village in Rajkot’s Paddhari in miserable living conditions. The jute and tarpaulin tucked together makeup as their house. VSSM’s Kanubhai and Chayaben visit them often once after they complained of functioning once the sun goes down. We provided them with solar lanterns along with helping them apply for power connection.

“We don’t need a power connection,” they declared when the officials paid a visit to their settlement.

“Why did you refuse?” we asked.

“What if our hands get stuck in the fan?” they opined. The fear of sustaining injury made them refuse electricity connection to their homes. 

“We can have a table-fan, the power connection you’ll bring light to your hut. The light will help in making the evenings safer and productive.” We explained.

“Oh yes, You are right!” Jagabhai realised his mistake of denying electricity connection.

The families are very naïve and gullible. At times they take up the making alcohol. The Sarpanch and revenue officer are eager to settle these families in the village, provide them with the best available location. But the precondition was that they take up legit means of earning a livelihood and give up all the illegal occupations. The community was worried about the future of the children of these families.

Jagabhai requested for some time and assured to give up unlawful occupations. We have also pledged our support to them.

VSSM has helped these families file applications for allotment of residential plots, but they would never turn up to procure the missing documents. Kanubhai and Chayaben also got tired of this negligent behaviour. I have always maintained that it is VSSM’s moral responsibility to support these families. The educated and informed will always find their way,  but these humans need hand-holding to navigate through the nitty-gritties of life, VSSM should be that person to walk them through.  

The Sarpanch and Revenue Officer of this village are  dedicated and enthusiastic. They requested these families to mend their ways and helped them with their proofs of income. The Sarpanch himself handed the documents to them.

Not all villages offer a red-carpet welcome the nomadic communities, but the Panchayat of Dahisarda is an exception we all need to applaud.  

We hope these families soon have a proper roof over their head, that they move to socially and legally acceptable livelihoods.

Kanubhai and Chayaben persevere tirelessly for the betterment of these families. May God give them strength. We couldn’t be prouder to have them with us.

રાજકોટના પડધરીના દહીસરડાગામમાં 8 વેડુ દેવીપૂજક પરિવારો રહે..

સ્થિતિ દયનીય.. કંતાનની આડાશો કરીને રહે.. અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ ને છાયાબહેન એમની પાસે અવાર નવાર જાય. એક વખતે અંધારામાં ઘણી તકલીફ પડે છે ની ફરિયાદ વસાહતના જગાભાઈએ કરી. સોલાર લાઈટ અમે આપી. સાથે વીજ કનેક્શન માટે અરજી પણ કરી.

વીજ કનેક્શન માટે અધિકારી તપાસમાં ગયા તો અમારે લાઈટ નથી જોઈતું એવું એમણે કહી દીધું, કારણ તપાસ્યું તો ખબર પડી કે અમારા ઝૂંપડામાં પંખો નાખીએ ને ક્યાંક હાથ બાથ આવી જાય તો?

અમે વસાહતમાં ગયા તે વખતે આ બાબતે વાત થઈ અમે કહ્યું, ઝીણી જાળી વાળો ટેબલ પંખો પણ લાવી શકાય ને વળી લાઈટમાં ખાલી પંખો ન હોય. બલ્બ પણ હોય. જેનાથી ઝૂંપડામાં ને બહાર રાતના અજવાળુ રહે..

વાત સાંભળી જગાભાઈ કાન પકડીને એ હાસુ કીધું એવું બોલ્યા. આવા હૃદયના ભોળા વ્યક્તિઓએ વખાના માર્યા ક્યાંક આડા રસ્તા લઈ લીધેલા. દારૃ પણ ગાળવાનું કરી લે.. તે ગામના સરપંચ ને તલાટીએ કહ્યું અમારે આમને ગામમાં સારામાં સારી જગ્યા દેવી છે. પણ આ દારૃને બીજુ બંધ કરે તો. મૂળ તો એમની ચિંતા એમના બાળકો ક્યાંક આ બધુ ન શીખે તેને લઈને હતી.

આખરે જગાભાઈએ કહ્યું એમને વખત આપો અમે બદલાશું. અમે પણ એ માટે જે જોઈએ એ મદદ માટે કહ્યું.

આ પરિવારોને રહેવા પ્લોટ મળે એ માટે કલેક્ટરને અરજી કરેલી પણ ખૂટતાં પુરાવા તેઓ કઢાવવા આવે જ નહીં. કનુભાઈ તો કહે બેન થાકી ગ્યો..

પણ હું હંમેશાં કહુ આ પરિવારોને મદદ કરવી એ આપણો ખરો ધર્મ. સમજે એની પાસે તો સૌ જાય પણ જે નાસમજ છે તેમની પાસે જઈને કાર્ય કરવું એ VSSMનું કામ.

ગામના સરપંચ અને તલાટી બેઉં બહુ ઉત્સાહી એમણે પણ આ પરિવારોને અમારી સાથે કદમ મિલાવવા કહ્યું ને બીજા દિવસે પંચાયતમાં બોલાવીને સૌને આવકના દાખલા સરપંચ શ્રીએ પોતાના હસ્તે આપી દીધા.

વિચરતી જાતિઓના વસવાટ માટે દરેક ગામ લાલ જાજમ પાથરીને તૈયાર નથી હોતું. ત્યારે દહીસરડાના આ પરિવારોને પંચાયત મદદ કરવા ઈચ્છે છે તે સરાહનીય..

બસ આ પરિવારો ઝટ પોતાના ઘરવાળા થાય.. અને સમાજને સ્વીકૃત હોય તેવા કાર્યોમાં લાગી જાય એવું ઈચ્છીએ..

કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેનને દાદ દેવી પડે.. થાક્યા વગર લાગ્યા છે.. ઈશ્વર એમને વધુ તાકાત આપે...

“Ben, we have been wandering for so many years. Do you feel that we will ever be able to settle down?? Here we are, living on the banks of a lake, everyone can see our pathetic living conditions yet they choose to ignore us. Nobody is willing to give us land for settling down!!”

Be it Bashirbhai Oad or Natubhai Bajaniya, whenever I happen to be in Visnagar for a meeting or a visit these men would come to meet me in person or callup at regular interval to inquire about the status of their applications and I would always assure them that things will move for sure. I remember once Natubhai lost his patience and had an outburst. A very annoyed Natubhai had lectured me for 15 minutes, telling me to stop giving false hope!!

Today Natubhai, Bashirbhai and like them 119 families of Gadaliya, Raval, Vansfoda, Vadi, Bajaniya, Oad communities have a reason to celebrate. Mehsana District Collector, the very compassionate  Shri Patel Saheb has allotted residential plots to these families. These families will now be able to fulfil their dream of a house which they will not be required to vacate or move away from.

VSSM and these families have been struggling to obtain residential plots for the last 10 years. Our team members Tohid and Rizwan have left no stone unturned to make the possibility of residential plots a reality for these families. There have been numerous occasions they have felt dejected, defeated but they never lost hope and continued to strive. The families receiving plots today is a result of their untiring efforts.

It is always said however hard you try things happen when the time is ripe, perhaps the time had ripened for these families.

 We are grateful to Mehsana District Collector for his empathetic decision. There are thousands of nomadic families in Mehsana, we humbly request you to help them realise their dream of a home!!

We are deeply grateful to  Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani, Shri Ishwarbhai Parmar, Minister Social Justice and Empowerment, K Kailashnathan Sir, D. H. Shah Saheb, Bhagwankaka (Panchal) and all our will well-wishing elders. It is your goodwill that makes all of these possible. May you continue to be instrumental in bringing joy and hope in the lives of the poor and deprived.

'બેન ચેટલા વરહથી રઝળીએ સીએ.. તે અમારુ હાચેન ચોય ઠેકોણું પડશે ક નઈ? આ તળાવની પાળે પડ્યા સીએ. બધાય અમન ભાળ પણ કોય રહેવા બલ્લે જમી આલતું નહીં..'

બશીરભાઈ ઓડ હોય કે નટુભાઈ બજાણિયા #વિસનગર જવાનું થાય કે કોઈ મીટીંગમાં એ લોકો આવ્યા હોય કે દર થોડા સમયે ફોન કરીને બસ આ એક જ વાત કર્યા કરે અને હું દર વખતે ધરપત રાખવાનું કહેતી. એક વખતે તો નટુભાઈ સખત ગુસ્સે થયેલા બેન તમારાથી ના થાય તો રહેવા દ્યો. પણ ખોટી આશા ના વતાડો... વગેરે જેવું લગભગ પંદર મીનીટ બોલી ગયેલા..

આજે નટુભાઈ અને બશીરભાઈ જેવા #ગાડલિયા, #રાવળ, #વાંસફોડા, #વાદી, #બજાણિયા, #ઓડ સમુદાયના 119 પરિવારોના જીવને સાતા મળશે.

#મહેસાણા #કલેક્ટર શ્રી પટેલ સાહેબે આ પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ સમજી તેમને રહેણાંર અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યા. હવે સ્વપ્નનું ઘર બનશે જ્યાંથી કોઈ એમને ખાલી નહીં કરાવી શકે.

છેલ્લા દસ વર્ષથી આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે VSSM દ્વારા અમે મથી રહ્યા હતા. કાર્યકર તોહીદ અને રીઝવાને તો સરકારી કચેરીના પગથિયાં ઘસી નાખેલા. તોહીદ તો ઘણીવાર નાસીપાસ થઈ જાય જોકે હારે થાકે ચાલે એમ નહોતું એટલે આવેલી નિરાશા ખંખેરી પાછો કામે લાગી જતો જેનું પરિણામ આજે એને મળ્યું.

કહેવાય છે દરેકનો એક સમય હોય છે એ સમય પહેલાં લાખ વલખાં મારીએ કાંઈ થતું નથી. બસ આ પરિવારોનો સમય હવે પાક્યો.

આભાર કલેક્ટર સાહેબ આપની લાગણીના લીધે જ આ શક્ય બન્યું. સાથે મહેસાણા જિલ્લામાં વસતા અન્ય વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોને પણ ઘર માટે જગ્યા અપાવવામાં નિમિત્ત બનવા આગ્રહભરી પ્રેમપૂર્વકની વિનંતી...

આપણા રાજ્યના વડા #મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી વિજયભાઈ રૃપાણી, #સામાજિક ન્યાય અને અધિકારીતા વિભાગના મંત્રી શ્રી ઈશ્વરભાઈ પરમાર, કે કેલાસ નાથન સર, ડી.એચ.શાહ સાહેબ, ભગવાનકાકા (પંચાલ) વગેરે સ્નેહીજનોનો આભાર.. આપ સૌની લાગણીના લીધે જ આ બધું શક્ય બન્યું..

“Kanu Saheb, can you please go through these documents to check if anything is missing?”

Mehboob Salat of Morbi’s Nava-Jambuliya appeared before us with a file containing the documents he wanted Kanubhai to review.

“Why don’t you check it for yourself, see if it has Aadhar card, ration card, voter id card, Ma card, caste and income certificates.” I replied.

“Ben, I will not be able to make-out! Kanubhai, tell me which of the document  that Ben just mentioned is missing.”

“Arre, why don’t you read and confirm by yourself.”

“I have not gone to school,” Mehboob replied hesitantly.

“Oh! So where did you get this nice looking file from? Who taught you to file the documents in such an organised  way?”

“I have followed Kanu Saheb to Mamlatdar’s office many a times. I would see the  officials  carry documents in  files. I too had decided that on the day  I obtain my identity documents I too will  file them in a good file. When I received Voter ID card I went to a shop and bought back the best looking file from many the shopkeeper showed me.” Mehboob gave a generous smile after narrating this.

“Good, now that we have a file the documents will be preserved well,” I said taking the file from his hand. I found an unopened envelope while going through the documents in the file. I looked at the envelope, before anyone could say a word Mehboob spoke up, “Glad you took a look at it. The letter has been with us for such a  long time since,  Kanu Saheb had  not come to the settlement, it is yet to be opened!” Mehboob replied.

“So every letter you receive needs to be opened by Kanu Saheb?”

“ Of course, what would we do after opening it, we can hardly read or understand. So we await his arrival.”

“You set-out of  the settlement, people can read it for you anywhere you have gone so why just Kanu Saheb.”

“That is true but Kanusaheb makes it very easy for us to understand.”

Kanubhai and Chayaben are in charge of Morbi and Rajkot district. The communities hold tremendous respect for this empathetic duo. In fact the entire team of VSSM always remains eager to help the nomadic communities.  

Mehboob has immense affability towards his file, he was happy he too had a proper file like other individuals and officials to hold his important documents. So much so that he has preserved the postal documents well too.

'કનુસાહેબ આ મારા કાગરિયા જોઈ દ્યોને આમાં કાંઈ ખુટે સે...'

આવું કહીને હાથમાં ફાઈલ લઈને મોરબીના નવા જાંબુડિયામાં રહેતો મહેબુબ સલાટ અમારી સામે આવ્યો. મે કહ્યું,

'તુ જાતે જ જોઈ લેને આધારકાર્ડ, રેશનકાર્ડ, મતદારકાર્ડ, મા કાર્ડ, જાતિપ્રમાણપત્ર અને આવકનો દાખલો હોવો જોઈએ એમાંથી શું નથી?'

'મોટાબેન એવી કાંઈ અમને ખબર નો પડે. ઓ કનુભાઈ આ બેન કેસે એમાંથી કોઈ કાગરિયું આ ફાઈલમાં ખુટે સે..'

'અરે તુ વાંચને એમાં કનુભાઈને શું પુછવાનું?' થોડું શરમાઈને મહેબુબે કહ્યું, 'હું નેહાળ નથ ગ્યો'

'ઓહ'

'તો આટલી સરસ ફાઈલ ક્યાંથી લાવ્યો અને એમાં કાગળિયા મુકાય એવું કોણે સમજાવ્યું?'

'હું કનુસાહેબ હારે મામલતદાર કસેરીએ ગ્યો તો ન્યાં હંધા આવી ફાઈલો લઈને આવ'તા. ઈ ટાણે તો મારી પાહે કોઈ પુરાવા નહોતા. પણ તે દિવસે નક્કી કઈર્યું તું કે જે દાડે પુરાવા જડશે તે દાડે આવી ફાઈલમાં જ હુંએ બધુ ગોઠવીશ. તે મતદારકાર્ડ જઈડું પસી દુકાને જઈને મે કાગરિયા ભીડાવવાની ફાઈલ માંગી. દુકાનવાળાએ ઘણી ફાઈલો બતાવી પણ મે એમાંથી હારામાં હારી અને મોંધી ફાઈલ લીધી'

આટલું બોલી મેહબુબ એકદમ મસ્ત હસ્યો.ચાલો ફાઈલ આવી એટલે કાગળિયા સચવાશે એમ કહીને મે એની પાસેથી ફાઈલ માંગી. ફાઈલના પાના ફંફોસતા. એક કવર શીલબંધ પડેલું જોયું. મે કવરહાથમાં લીધુ અને મહેબુબને કશું પુછુ એ પહેલાં જ એણે કહ્યું,

'આ લો તમે હારુ કઈર્યુ. આ ટપાલ કે'દીની આઈવીતી. પણ કનુસાહેબ આઈવા નહોતા એટલે ટપાલ ખોલી નોતી'

'તે દરેક ટપાલ આવે તે કનુસાહેબ જ ખોલે?'

'હાસ્તો.. અમે ખોલીને હું કરીએ. સાહેબ જ વાંસે અને પસી અમને કે આમ કરવાનું કે તેમ કરવાનું..'

'પણ ટપાલ તો વસાહતમાંથી તમે જ્યાં કામે જતા હોય તેમને બતાવો તો એ લોકો પણ કહી દે કે આમાં શું લખ્યું છે?'

'હા માળુ એ વાતેય રાઈટસે. પણ બેન કનુભાઈ ખોલે તો હારુ એ બધુ ગેડ પાડીને હજમાવે..'

કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન VSSMના મોરબી, રાજકોટ જિલ્લાના કાર્યકર. બંને માટે વસાહતના લોકોને બહુ માન અને બેય સદાય વંચિત પરિવારોના કામ માટે તત્પર. કનુભાઈ, છાયાબહેનની જેમ VSSMની આખી ટીમ એવી જ મજબૂત છે..

મહેબુબને ફાઈલ પ્રત્યે બહુ પ્રેમ હતો. ભણ્યો નથી પણ બધા સાહેબ રાખે એવી ફાઈલ એની પાસે છે એનો આનંદ એને છે વળી સૌથી અગત્યનું આ ફાઈલનો તેણે બરાબર ઉપયોગ કર્યો છે આ ઉપયોગ ત્યાં સુધી કે ટપાલના કવરો પણ એણે એટલી જ માવજતથી સાચવ્યા છે...

 “Do you have any knives to be sharpened, bring them, we are here!!” A heavy Saran loaded on their shoulders, mostly  travelling on feet, from village to village, shouting at the top of our voice. This is the image of  Saraniyaa or the Knife sharpeners most of us carry in our memory. The Saraniyaa families, with their entire household loaded on a bullock cart, travelling from village to village have now  settled on government wastelands. VSSM has been assisting them at various levels including processing  the applications and acquisition of residential plots.

We recently organised a gathering of Saraniyaa Community leaders at Anandpar in Morbi. The community leaders shared their woes, the general apathy and gratitude towards  the warmth and support they receive from VSSM’s committed team members Kanubhai and Chayabahen. “Bahen, we were unable to find one document. The entire village was against our residing in the village. Kanubhai and Chayabahen stood beside us  like a rock and asked the village to provide us land for permanent settlement.”

VSSM’s team has been instrumental in bringing hope, spreading joy in the lives of thousands of nomadic families. Only the fortunate are blessed with  strong, devoted and hardworking team. It is a team that brings laurels to VSSM and me. I feel immensely fortunate and proud to be a part of such a team.

Since several years, Takhubhagat has been residing on a small hill at some distance from Anandpar. Some individuals in the village were against granting permeant settlement to him. During the gathering we requested the village Sarpanch and other leaders to participate in the meeting. The case was presented and Sarpanch agreed to providing land to the families.

We also talked about the need for deaddiction, sending children to school, general awareness amongst the community. “VSSM is our guardian, never  ever leave our side.” Such sentiments are truly overwhelming.

The commitment of Kanubhai, Chayabahen, Vaaghabhai, Takhubhagat   ensured a productive gathering.

“Only the worthy can wear a  Paghdi/head-gear, it is not for everyone,” said Takhubhagat while placing the Paghadi on my head. Indeed, a true honour!!


ખભે ભારેભરખમ સરાણ લઈને ગામે ગામ છરી ચાકા હજાબ્બા હોય તો....ની બૂમ પાડતા સરાણિયાને તમે દીઠા હશે...

ગાડા લઈને એક ગામથી બીજે ફર્યા કરતા આ સરાણિયા પરિવારો આજે સરકારી ખરાબાની જગ્યામાં સ્થાયી થયા છે. સરકાર પાસે રહેવા પોતાના નામનો પ્લોટ તેમજ પોતાની ઓળખના તમામ પુરાવા મળે એ માટેની મથામણ VSSM સાથે રહી તેઓ કરી રહ્યા છે..

આવા સરાણિયા સમાજના આગેવાનોની એક બેઠક મોરબી જિલ્લાના આણંદપરમાં અમે કરી. બેઠકમાં સૌએ પોતાની વેદના વ્યક્ત કરી સાથે સંસ્થાના સંનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન થકી મળતી હૂંફની પણ વાત કરી.'બેન એક કાગળિયું જડતું નહોતું, ગામ આખુ અમારા વસાવટ હામે વિરોધ કરતું ન્યાં કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન અમારી પડખે રીયા અને આજે ગામે અમને રેવા હાટુ જમીન આપવાની કીધું..

'VSSMના કાર્યકરો થકી હજારો પરિવારોને સુખ અપાવવામાં નિમિત્ત બનવાનું થયું છે. મજબૂત કાર્યકરોની આવી ટીમ મળવી નસીબની વાત છે.. મને ગર્વ છે તમામ કાર્યકર પર જેમના થકી હું અને VSSM ઊજળા છીએ...

વર્ષોથી તખુભગત આણંદપરગામથી દૂર ટેકરા પર છાપરાં નાખીને રહેતા.. ગામ રહેવા કાયમી જગ્યા આપેની માંગ એમની વર્ષોની પણ ગામના કેટલાક આ બાબતે સહમત નહોતા.

સરાણિયા સમાજના આગેવાનોની બેઠકમાં ગામના સરપંચ અને અન્ય આગેવાનોને અમે ઉપસ્થિત રાખ્યા અને સરપંચ શ્રીએ જમીન આપવાની સહમતી દર્શાવી.

સરાણિયા આગેવાનોએ આ બેઠકમાં પોતાના સમાજમાં વધારે જાગૃતતા આવે, બાળકો ભણતા થાય તેમજ વ્યસન મુક્ત સમાજ બેને તે માટે પ્રયત્નો કરવાની વાત કરી અને સૌથી અગત્યનું 'સંસ્થા અમારી માવતર અમારો હાથ ઝાલી રાખજો'ની એમની વાત પર નતમસ્તક થવાયું.. કનુભાઈ છાયાબહેન, વાધાભાઈ, તખુભગત સૌની કટીબદ્ધતાના લીધે આ બેઠક સુંદર રીતે પૂર્ણ થઈ... પાઘડી બધાને નો પહેરાવાય.. લાયકને જ પહેરાવાય એવું કહીને તખુભગતે પાઘડી પહેરાવી...એમણે આપેલી આ ઈજ્જત માટે કૃતજ્ઞતાભાવ...

Mittal Patel meets the vansfoda families of Surendranagr

The  long pending applications of residential plots for  47 Vansfoda families living in Surendranagar  for centuries somehow never saw light of the day.

District Collector Shri K. Rajesh and his team took upon them to ensure these families get plots to build their first ever  homes on. After a month long procedure these 47 Vansfoda families have been allotted documents to 100 sq. ft. plots each. The land they have been allotted is located in the neighbouring village of Mulchand.

The current settlement is just next to a railway line in Surendranagar. While we were in the middle of a meeting, a train came to a halt there, the deafening noise required me to stop talking for a while as it was impossible to be heard. I resumed speaking once the train rolled by. “This is part of our  everyday life here, ben!!”

It is the responsibility of our society as well as the government to think and care about such communities. But, we have collectively missed responsibilities of these kind.

Officers like K. Rajesh are rare, he derives deep satisfaction from the work he does for the extremely poor, deprived, homeless  communities of our society. His concern and dedication commands respect and his work calls for both applaud and salute. Hope the team continues to work with same commitment irrespective of the district collector at the helm of it all.

It is also for the efforts of the Vansfoda youth who have worked really hard for it all, right from preparing the applications, compiling the documents, making rounds of the offices. Their efforts eventually paid off.  

Our Harshad always remarked, “Ben, when will the work in Saurashtra happen. Hope we too have some concerned officers come to  this part of world!!” The forces of the universe listened to his wishes and the ball of change and hope  is set rolling.

કલેક્ટર શ્રી અને તેમની ટીમે આ કામ હાથ પર લીધુ અને લગભગ એકાદ મહિનાની પ્રક્રિયાના અંતે આજે આ પરિવારોના હાથમાં 100 ચો.મી. પ્લોટની સનદો આવી ગઈ. સુરેન્દ્રનગરની બાજુમાં મૂળચંદગામમાં તેમને જગ્યા ફાળવાઈ.

સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રેલવે લાઈનની બાજુમાં આ પરિવારો રહે.

તેમની વસાહતમાં બેઠી હતી અને ટ્રેન આવી થોડીવાર તો કોઈ બોલે એ સંભળાય નહીં એવો ઘોંઘાટ રહ્યો.

હું વાત કરતી હતી પણ ઘોંઘાટના લીધે મે વાત બંધ કરી. લોકો સમજી ગયા. ટ્રેન ગયા પછી લોકોએ કહ્યું,

'અમે આમાં રોજ જીવીએ છીએ.'

ખેર આવા લોકોની ચિંતા સેવવાની ફરજ સમાજ અને સરકાર બંનેની. પણ...

કે. રાજેશ જેવા લાગણીવાળા અધિકારીઓ બહુ ઓછા છે જેમને કામનો સંતોષ આવા નોંધારા, સરનામાં વગરના માણસોને મદદ કરીને મળે છે..

સુરેન્દ્રનગર કલેક્ટર શ્રીને તો પ્રણામ કરવા પડે. સાથે તેમના થકી કટીબદ્ધ થયેલી ટીમ પણ કાયમ આમ જ કટીબદ્ધતા દાખવે એમ ઈચ્છીએ.

વાંસફોડા યુવાનો જેઓએ આ કામમાં ઘણી મહેનત કરી.

દરખાસ્તો તૈયાર કરવાથી લઈને કરેલી દોડાદોડીનું પરિણામ આજે મળ્યું.

અમારો કાર્યકર હર્ષદ હંમેશાં બેન સૌરાષ્ટ્રવાળાના કામો ક્યારે થશે કોઈ લાગણીવાળા અધિકારી આ બાજુ પણ આવે એમ ઈચ્છે ..

ભગવાને એની સાંભળી... કે. રાજેશ ત્યાં આવ્યા અને જુઓ કામો પૂરબહારમાં થવા માંડ્યા...

આભાર કલેક્ટર શ્રી ગોડ બ્લેસ યુ... કુદરત સારા કામમાં આપને હંમેશાં નિમિત્ત બનાવે...

“Ben, the officials are seated amidst us!! Looks like now our files will soon be cleared.” Sulemanbhai called up  from Amrapurpati  as the officials in Patan district had reached his settlement after District Collector Shri Anandbhai initiated efforts to address the current and pending issues of the nomadic and other destitute communities. The officials who never made an effort to step away from their chairs are now visiting settlements and preparing applications.

It is not just Sulemanbhai, but Ushaben Nat, Laxmanbhai Bajaniya and so many who were delighted at this turn of events.

The communities are overwhelmed, at last  their plight did get noticed. They were eager to honour the officer who was concerned for their well-being.

The nomadic communities reached Shri. Anandbhai’s office to thank him  for his concern and efforts. They expressed their gratitude in their own language, presented him flowers and a Murli too..

They also requested to be photographed with Shri. Anandbhai who delightfully obliged ( the nomads are photo fetish. Someday,  will share at length about this importance. For now District Collector Shri Anandbhai has acquired space in their photo albums, a space reserved only for their dear ones).

કલેક્ટર પાટણ શ્રી આનંદભાઈ પટેલની સંવેદનશીલતાથી તંત્ર ગતિમાન થયું.

વિચરતી જાતિઓની વસાહતમાં અધિકારીઓ આવ્યા અને જરૃરી અરજીઓ જાતે ફરી..

સુલેમાનભાઈનો અમરાપુરપાટીથી ફોન આવ્યો.

'બેન અધિકારી અમારી વચમાં બેઠા છે. હવે  

અમારા કામ થાશે એમ લાગે છે'

આ લાગણી ખાલી સુલેમાનભાઈ નહોતી. ઉષાબહેન નટ હોય કે લક્ષ્મણભાઈ બજાણિયા સૌની આજ લાગણી.

વંચિતો માટે પ્રેમ રાખનાર આવા સરસ અધિકારીનું સન્માન કરવું ઘટે જ..

આજે વિચરતી જાતિઓ એમની ભાષામાં આનંદભાઈનો આભાર માનવા કચેરીએ પહોંચી.

કાલીઘેલી ભાષામાં આભાર માન્યો સાથે વાદીએ મોરલી તો અન્યોયે ફુલોની ભેટ આપી.

વિચરતી જાતિના સૌએ તેમની સાથે ફોટો પણ પડાવ્યા. અને આનંદભાઈએ એકદમ હરખાતા ફોટો પડાવ્યા. (વિચરતી જાતિઓમાં આ ફોટોનું જબરૃ મહત્વ છે ક્યારેક એનીયે વાત કરીશું. પણ હાલ પુરતુ કહુ તો કલેક્ટર શ્રીએ વિચરતી જાતિઓના આલબમમાં સ્થાન મેળવી લીધું જ્યાં પોતીકાને જ સ્થાન હોય છે.)

આનંદભાઈ ફુલોની જેમ આપના કાર્યોની સુવાસ ચોમેર આમ જ પ્રસરેલી રહે એવી શુભેચ્છા...
