Hirama had two young sons. They got married, and daughters-in-law came into the family. Hirama thought that in the twilight years of her life, she would finally find some peace and comfort. But fate struck cruelly—both of her young sons passed away before her eyes.

Life now became a burden for Hirama. Her body had stopped supporting her, and even arranging food became a daily struggle. Yet hunger does not wait. With no other choice, she began walking through the village with the support of a stick, asking people for wheat, rice, or lentils just to fill her empty stomach.

When Rizwanbhai, a volunteer from our organization, met her in Ranasan village of Mehsana district, Hirama was returning home after seeking alms from the villagers. Opening the cloth bag hanging from her shoulder, she showed the wheat, rice, and lentils she had collected and said,

"Who likes to beg at this age? And that too, by knocking on every doorstep in the village! But what else can I do?"

We started providing her with monthly ration support, freeing her from the need to beg. But a different kind of burden began weighing on her heart.

She said,"You people are doing such a noble deed. God listens to people like you. Please pray to Him to take me away soon. I eat the food you provide, but surely I am indebted for it, am I not? I cannot repay this debt in this lifetime. To repay it, I may have to return to this world in my next birth."

Our country is a land of values and self-respect. Here, a poor person may be helpless because of circumstances, but the values flowing through their blood are never poor. Even in death, they find it difficult to live off another's generosity. Unearned grain pricks their conscience. Hearing Hirama speak about repaying this “debt,” the word khameer (strength of character and dignity) naturally came to mind.

Holding her trembling, wrinkled hands affectionately, I said,

"Ba, there is no debt. If we carry pride or a sense of ownership over giving, then all service loses its true meaning. Whatever we do, we offer it to Lord Krishna. Once everything is surrendered at His feet, where does any debt remain? The receiver is He, the giver is He—we are merely intermediaries in the transaction."

But Hirama was very tired. After enduring the harsh blows of life and witnessing the deaths of her young sons, her spirit had been deeply wounded. More than food, she now longed for freedom from the bonds of this worldly existence.

Seeing the pain in her heart, I was reminded of the poet Kag Bapu's lines:

""કાગ" એવા અવસર આપજે, જ્યારે જાય આ પાંજરું છૂટી;

બીજી આશા બધીય આ જગતની, જાય જડમૂળથી તૂટી.."

When all hopes in life fade away, the soul begins to yearn for the refuge of the Divine. Hirama, too, now waits for that final resting place.

If we can spend a little time with such elders, listening to them and offering them comfort, it can mean more to them than we can imagine.

હીરામાને બે જુવાનજોધ દીકરા હતા, એમને પરણાવ્યા ને ઘરમાં વહુઓ આવી. હીરા માને એમ કે હવે જિંદગીની સમી સાંજે થોડી નિરાંત થઈ, ત્યાં તો કાળનો કારમો પંજો ત્રાટક્યો ને બંને જુવાન દીકરાઓ માની નજર સામે દુનિયા છોડીને ચાલ્યા ગયા.

હીરા મા માટે હવે જિંદગી ભારરૂપ બની ગઈ. શરીર કામ કરતું બંધ થયું, ખાવા-પીવાની મોકાણ ઊભી થઈ. પણ પેટ તો સમય થાય એટલે ભાડુ માંગે. નાછૂટકે હીરામા લાકડીના ટેકે આખાય ગામમાં ફરીને કોકની પાસે ઘઉં, ચોખા કે દાળ માંગીને પેટનો ખાડો પૂરવા માંડ્યા.   જ્યારે અમારી સંસ્થાના કાર્યકર રીઝવાભાઈ બાને મહેસાણાના રણાસણગામમાંki મળ્યા ત્યારે હીરા મા ગામમાંથી માંગીને ઘરે પાછા ફરી રહ્યા હતા.   એમના ખભે લટકતી ભિક્ષાની થેલી ખોલીને બાએ ભીક્ષામાં માંગી આણેલા ઘઉં, ચોખા ને દાળ બતાવતા કહેલું, “ઉંમરના આ પડાવે માંગવું કોને ગમે? એ પણ આખા ગામના ઉંબરા ખૂંદીને! પણ શું કરુ?”

અમે એમને રાશન આપવાનું શરૂ કર્યું, એમને યાચનાવૃત્તિમાંથી મુક્તિ મળી, પણ હીરા માના મન પર એક જુદો જ પવિત્ર ભાર વર્તાવા માંડ્યો.   એમણે કહ્યું, "તમે આટલું પુણ્યનું કામ કરો છો, ભગવાન તમારું સાંભળે. તમે પ્રાર્થના કરો ને કે ભગવાન અહીંથી મને ઝટ લઈ જાય! આ તમે આપો છો એ ખાવું છું, પણ મારા માથે એનું ઋણ તો ખરું ને? આ ઋણ આ જન્મે તો નહીં ચુકવી શકું, પણ આવતા જન્મે એને ચુકવવા મારે અહીંયા પાછું આવવું પડશે ને?"

આપણો દેશ એ સંસ્કાર ને ખુમારીનો દેશ. અહીં ગરીબ માણસ કદાચ નસીબનો લાચાર હોઈ શકે, પણ એના લોહીના સંસ્કાર ક્યારેય ગરીબ નથી હોતા.   એ મરી જાય પણ કોઈનું ઓશિયાળું ખાવાનું પચાવી શકતો નથી. મફતનું ધાન એના કાળજાને ખૂંચે છે. હીરામાના મુખેથી 'ઋણ' ચુકવવાની આ વાત સાંભળીને ખરુ 'ખમીર' એવું અનાયાસે બોલાઈ ગયું.

મેં એમના ધ્રૂજતા, કરચલીવાળા હાથને પકડીને વ્હાલથી કહ્યું, "બા, કોઈનુંય ઋણ નથી. જો આપવાનો કે નિમિત્ત બનવાનો અહંકાર કે ભાર રાખીએ, તો કરેલી બધીયે સેવા એળે જાય. અમે જે કરીએ એ બધું 'કૃષ્ણાર્પણ'.   બધું એ ઠાકરના ચરણોમાં ધરી દઈએ, પછી ઋણના બંધન ક્યાં રહે? લેનારોય એ ને દેનારોય એ, આપણે તો માત્ર વચલા ગાળાના વહેવારિયા!"

પણ બા બહુ થાક્યા હતા. સંસારના કારમા ઘા સહન કરીને, જુવાનજોધ દીકરાઓની નનામીઓ જોઈને એ જીવ હવે ભીતરથી સાવ ભાંગી ચૂક્યો હતો. એમને હવે અનાજ કરતાંય આ સંસારના બંધનોમાંથી મુક્તિ જોઈતી હતી.  એમના મનની પીડા જોઈને કવિ કાગબાપુની પંક્તિઓ યાદ આવી,

"કાગ" એવા અવસર આપજે, જ્યારે જાય આ પાંજરું છૂટી;

બીજી આશા બધીય આ જગતની, જાય જડમૂળથી તૂટી.

જ્યારે જિંદગીની બધી આશા તૂટી જાય ત્યારે જીવ પરમાત્માના શરણની ઝંખના કરે. હીરા મા પણ હવે એ જ આખરી વિસામાની રાહ જોઈને બેઠા છે. આવા માવતરોની પાસે બે ઘડી બેસી એમને હાશકારો આપવાનું કરીએ તો ઘણું...

“This bed has never been empty…”

The moment one hears these words of Pravinbhai, the heart feels heavy.

Since childhood—first his father, then his mother, then his elder sister, then his younger sister… and even today, one sister is still confined to the bed.

Whoever lies on that bed, the entire responsibility falls on Pravinbhai’s shoulders. From helping with toileting to taking care of every daily need, everything is done by his own hands.

We asked him, “Don’t you ever complain about this life?”

Pravinbhai calmly replied, “Complain about what? Can you abandon your own? One has to fulfill what is written in one’s fate, isn’t it?”

Seeing Pravinbhai’s condition in Samedra village of Banaskantha, our hearts ached.

In the entire household, Pravinbhai is the only one blessed with understanding and a sense of responsibility. The rest of the brothers and sisters are mentally challenged.

Why did this happen? Pravinbhai has no answer. But the neighbours say, “At birth, they were all perfectly fine, but over the years, their mental condition slowly deteriorated.”

It feels as though God has given Pravinbhai a special strength for service. He cannot go out to work, as he has to take care of so many people at home. Yet he has not lost courage. Since he knows how to use a sewing machine, he stitches torn clothes for villagers.

For food, they receive ration kits from VSSM. In addition, a kind-hearted man from Palanpur also provides ration kits. With this help, meals are prepared at home.

From the ₹3,000 received from the government for three persons with disabilities, expenses such as medicines, milk, and vegetables are somehow managed.

Pravinbhai says, “When we receive ration, I can peacefully take care of everyone. Otherwise, it becomes very difficult.”

Truly, in today’s times, Pravinbhai is like Shravan as a son and like Lakshman as a brother.

He has never abandoned his parents and siblings, even while living in extreme hardship.

He carries his duty not as a burden, but as a sacred responsibility.

We are grateful that we could provide some comfort to this family through ration support.

May God always keep His hand over Pravinbhai’s head—this is our prayer, and we find contentment in being a small instrument in this service.

“આ ખાટલો ક્યારેય ખાલી નથી થયો…”

પ્રવિણભાઈના આ શબ્દો સાંભળતા જ મન ભરાઈ જાય.

નાનો હતો ત્યારથી પહેલા પિતા, પછી મા, પછી મોટી બહેન, પછી નાની બહેન… અને આજે પણ એક બહેન ખાટલે પડી છે.

જે ખાટલો પકડે, એની તમામ જવાબદારી પ્રવિણભાઈના ખભા પર. ઝાડો-પેશાબથી લઈને રોજિંદી તમામ સેવા એમના હાથેથી થાય.

અમે પૂછ્યું, “આ જીવન સામે ફરિયાદ નથી?”

જવાબમાં પ્રવિણભાઈ શાંતિથી કહે,“શાની ફરિયાદ? પોતાના હોય એને થોડા છોડી દેવાય? કરમમાં લખેલું તો પુરુ કરવાનું ને?”

બનાસકાંઠાના સેમેદ્રાગામમાં રહેતા પ્રવિણભાઈની સ્થિતિ જોઈને જીવ બળી ગયો.

આખા ઘરમાં એકમાત્ર પ્રવિણભાઈ જ એવા જેમને સમજ અને જવાબદારીની મતિ઼. બાકીના ભાઈ-બહેનો તો માનસિક રીતે નિજાનંદી.

આ બધું કેમ થયું? એનો જવાબ પ્રવિણભાઈ પાસે નથી. પણ પડોશીઓ કહે, "જન્મ્યા એ વખતે તો બધા સરસ હતા, પણ થોડા વર્ષોમાં ધીમે-ધીમે માનસિક સ્થિતિ બદલાતી ગઈ."

ઈશ્વરે પ્રવિણભાઈને ચાકરી કરવાની વિશેષ શક્તિ આપી હોય એવું સ્થિતિ જોઈને લાગ્યું. એ બહાર જઈને કામ કરી શકે નહીં. ઘરમાં આટલા બધાને સાચવવાના. પણ હિંમત હારી નથી. સિલાઈ મશીન ચલાવતાં આવડે એટલે ગામમાં કોઈના ફાટેલા કપડાં સાંધવાનું કરી આપે.

ખાવા-પીવા માટે VSSM તરફથી રાશનકીટ મળે. એ સિવાય પાલનપુરના એક સહૃદય ભાઈ પણ રાશનકીટ આપે. આ બે મદદથી ઘરમાં જમવાનું બની જાય.

સરકાર તરફથી ત્રણે દિવ્યાંગ માટે મળતા 3000 રૂપિયા માંથી દવા, દૂધ, શાકભાજી જેવા નાનામોટા ખર્ચો નીકળી જાય.

પ્રવિણભાઈ કહે છે, “રાશન મળે એટલે હું શાંતિથી આ બધાની સેવા કરી શકું છું.

નહીં તો બહુ અઘરું થઈ જાય.”

ખરેખર, પ્રવિણભાઈ આજના સમયમાં શ્રવણ જેવો દીકરો અને લક્ષ્મણ જેવો ભાઈ છે.

કપરી સ્થિતિમાં જીવતા માતા-પિતા અને ભાઈ-બહેનોને એમણે ક્યારેય ત્યજ્યા નથી.

ફરજને ભાર નહીં, પણ ધર્મ સમજીને વહન કરે.

અમે આવા પરિવારને રાશન થકી થોડી સાંત્વના આપી શક્યા એનો રાજીપો.

ઈશ્વર પ્રવિણભાઈના માથે હંમેશા હાથ રાખે એવી પ્રાર્થના ને અમને નિમિત્તનો સંતોષ.

“My dependence is gone”

“My husband passed away before the earthquake. At that time my hands and legs worked, so I could manage the kitchen work. But with age, my hands and legs stopped working.”

“Ba, how do you manage your livelihood?”

“I receive 1,200 rupees from the government and get ration through coupons. I try to manage with that.”

“Is that enough?”

“A little support comes from relatives and others.”

“So if we don’t give you ration, would it be okay?”

“No, it wouldn’t. Because of what you give, my dependence is gone. I can cook and eat by my own choice. From the 1,200 rupees I buy vegetables and milk, and if I need medicines, I buy those. If you don’t give ration, I would have to manage everything within those 1,200 rupees, right?”

“So are we doing a good thing?”

“You fill the stomachs of helpless people like us—that itself is called good work, isn’t it?”

This conversation took place with Nathiba, who lives in Madhapar, Rajkot. She has no son or daughter. The monthly ration we provide helps her survive.

Not having to live with dependence is a very big thing.

VSSM provides ration to 750 destitute elderly women and men. The voice of all of them is the same.

Our Kanubhai and Yash regularly take care of the elderly and deliver ration. Having such dedicated workers with us is a matter of pride.

"મારા ઘરવાળા તો ધરતીકંપ પહેલા વયા ગ્યા. પણ તે વખતે હાથ પગ હાલતા તે હું રસોડા કરવા જતી. પણ ઉંમર થાતા હાથ પગ ચાલવાના બંધ થ્યા."

"તે બા તમારુ ગુજરાન કેમ ચાલે?"

"સરકારના 1200 મળે ને કુપનનું રાશન મળે એમાંથી હંકારવા કોશીસ કરુ."

"તે ચાલી જાય?"

"થોડુ કુટુંબવાળા ને બીજા ટેકો કરતા."

"તો અમે રાશન ન આપીયે તો ચાલે?"

"ના ચાલે. તમે આલો એના લીધે મારી ઓશિયાળી મટી ગઈ. મારી મરજીથી રાંધીને ખાઈ હકુ. સરકારના 1200 મલે એમાંથી શાક, દૂધ લાવું. દવાની જરૃર પડે તો એ લઉં. જો તમે ન આપો તો મારે 1200માં જ હંકારવાનું ને?"

"તો અમે સારુ કામ કરીએ છીએ?"

"તમે અમ જેવા નિરાધારની આંતરડી ઠારો તે ઈ હારુ જ કેવાય ને?"

રાજકોટના માધાપરમાં રહેતા નાથીબા સાથે આ બધી વાતો થઈ. બાને દિકરા દીકરી નથી. આપણે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે એમાંથી એમનો ગુજારો ચાલે.

ઓશિયાળી વેઠવાની ન રહે એ બહુ મોટી વાત. VSSM 750 નિરાધાર બા -દાદાને રાશન આપે. એ તમામનો આ સૂર પણ આજ..

Mittal Patel meets Pravinabaa and her son Jaydip 

We saw boards reading “Rangilu Rajkot” (Colorful Rajkot) displayed in manyplaces across the city. Reading them engulfs our hearts with joy.

In this colorful Rajkot, our volunteer Kanubhai took us to the home of Pravinabaa. The house was neat and clean, but there lingered an air of heaviness within. Pravinabaa lives there with her son, Jaydeep.

Jaydeep is differently abled. Pravinabaa is his stepmother, but she loves him immensely. She said, “When I first came into this home after marriage, Jaydeep used to release his excrement and urine in his bed and rumpled them. But with patience, I taught him everything. These days, he is my support.”

Her worry, however, is what will happen to Jaydeep after she is gone. An unspoken fear lingers in her heart. She said, “After I pass away, people may place him in the Ashram. I am afraid of how he will survive there.”

While speaking about herself and Jaydeep, her eyes kept welling up with tears. We told her, “Baa, don’t bother. God leads everybody to the proper desired path.”

She replied, “I have deep faith in Him. It is He who has sent you. Otherwise, I am no longer able to manage. I was worried about food, but now that you are here, I have no longer any worries.” Every month, we provide Pravinabaa and Jaydeep with enough groceries so they can eat well.

The government provides her with a pension, which allows her to buy vegetables and milk. However, due to health problems, her monthly medicines cost about 400–500 rupees. She said, “Please do something about this, if you can.” Yet, there was no trace of lust in her asking for or demanding more or extra.

We keep providing comforts to elders like her and other families with the help of the well-wishers associated with VSSM. Every month, groceries are provided to more than 750 older, senior citizens. We pray that God may make us instrumental in the well-being of many more!!

રંગીલુ રાજકોટ એવા બોર્ડ રાજકોટ સીટીની વચમાં ઘણી જગ્યાએ મારેલા જોયા. આનંદ થાય આ વાંચીને. આ રંગીલા રોજકોટમાં અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અમને પ્રવિણાબાના ઘરે લઈ ગયા. સાફસુથરુ ઘર પણ ઘરમાં એક ઉદાસીનતા.

પ્રવિણાબા અને એમનો દિકરો જયદીપ એમાં રહે.જયદીપભાઈ દિવ્યાંગ. પ્રવિણાબા એમના નવી મા. પણ બાને જયદીપભાઈ પર ભારે પ્રેમ. બા કહે, “લગ્ન કરીને મને લાવ્યા ત્યારે તો જયદીપ ગોદડામાં ઝાડો, પેશાબ કરી નાખે ને પાછો એને ફેંદી નાખે. પણ મે ધીરજથી એને બધુ શીખવ્યુ. હાલ મારો એ આશરો.”

બાને ચિંતા એમના ગયા પછી જયદીપભાઈની. એ કહે, “મારા ગયા પછી આને કોઈ આશ્રમમાં લોકો મુકી આવશે. ત્યાં એને કેમ ફાવશે?.” બાની આંખો પોતાની ને જયદીપભાઈની વાત કરતા કરતા વારે વારે ભીની થઈ જતી. અમે કહ્યું, “બા ચિંતા ન કરો. ઈશ્વર સૌ માટે રસ્તા કરે.” બાએ કહ્યું, “એનો ભરોષો ભારે. એણે જ તમને મોકલ્યા. નહીં તો મારાથી હવે કામ નથી થતું. ખાવા પીવાની ચિંતા હતી પણ તમે આવ્યા તે મને એ ચિંતા ટળી.” અમે દર મહિને બા અને જયદીપભાઈ પેટ ભરીને ખાઈ શકે તેટલું રાશન આપીયે.

સરકાર એમને પેન્શન આપે તે એમાંથી શાક અને દૂધના પૈસા નીકળે. બા ને હવે તબીયતમાં કાંઈક તકલીફ છે તે મહિનાની 400 -500 ની દવા થાય છે. એમણે કહ્યું, “આનું કાંઈક થાય તો કરજો.” આમ માંગવાની કે વધારે કશું આપી દો એવી ભાવના બાની જરાય નહીં. આવા વડિલોને – પરિવારોને સાતા આપવાનું કાર્ય VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત કરીએ. દર મહિને 750થી વધુ બા-દાદાઓને રાશન આપવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ. ઈશ્વર અનેકોના શુભમાં નિમિત્ત બનાવે તેવી પ્રાર્થના...

Mittal Patel meets Jivatba 

Jivat Ba walks with difficulty, relying on the support of her two hands and feet.

Because of her physical condition, she never married and continued to live with her parents in their home.

As long as her parents were alive, things were manageable. But after their passing, life became a struggle.

She has no one to care for her on a daily basis.

Her neighbors and distant relatives offer occasional help, but her loneliness is deep.

She lives in Santokpura village, near Kheralu in Mehsana district.

Her house is not really a house — it’s a fragile mud hut, with severe leaks during monsoon.

There is no toilet or bathroom, and that adds to her daily hardships.

She also doesn’t have a ration card, which means no access to government food assistance.

When our volunteers Rameshbhai and Pareshbhai came to know about Ba’s condition, they included her in our Mavjat (care) program, and we began providing her with monthly ration.

But upon seeing her living conditions, Rameshbhai felt deeply moved and insisted that Ba should also get a proper house.

Around the same time, we received a call from Urvibahen from Canada.

She said:“If I can help build a home for a needy person, please let me know. When we first came to Canada, we had no home of our own, and I still remember what that felt like. Being a part of giving someone a home is a deep joy.”

We shared Jivat Ba’s story with Urviben, and she immediately agreed to help build Ba's home.

Because of the monsoon rains, removing Ba’s existing mud hut was a bit difficult, but it has now been taken down.

Before starting the foundation digging, Rameshbhai and Pareshbhai wished for a Bhumi Pujan (land worship) to be performed.

When we recently traveled near Kheralu, we visited Ba’s home.

Ba performed the Bhumi Pujan herself, and now, construction of her new house will begin.

When we asked Ba what kind of home she would like, she simply said:

“Just a single room with a porch, and a toilet and bathroom at the back. If the toilet is at the back, it’ll be easier for me.”

Her request was practical and touching, reflecting her physical limitations.

We will build her home exactly as she needs it.

Not everyone has the ability to use their God-given blessings for others.

Only those touched by divine grace can offer such selfless generosity.

Thanks to people like Urviben, we are able to carry out such meaningful work.

We are deeply grateful for the empathy and compassion shown by all such well-wishers.

Let us continue to pray for strength and resources to help many more people like Ba.

જીવત બા બે હાથ અને પગના ટેકાથી વાંકા ચાલે. શરીરની આ હાલતના લીધે એમના લગ્ન ન થયા. એ માતા પિતા સાથે પિયરમાં જ રહ્યા. મા - બાપ જીવતા હતા ત્યાં સુધી એમને વાંધો ન આવ્યો પણ એમના ગયા પછી તકલીફો ઊભી થઈ. 

એમની ચાકરી કરનારુ કોઈ નહીં. આમ પડોશી અને દૂરના એમના સગા એમનું ધ્યાન રાખે. પણ ઓશિયાળી તો ખરી જ. 

મહેસાણા જિલ્લાના ખેરાલુના સંતોકપુરા ગામમાં એ રહે. રહેવા સરખુ ઘર નહીં. કાચુ માટીનું છાપરુ. ચોમાસામાં સખત ચુવા થાય. ટોયલેટ બાથરૂમની સુવિધા નહીં તે એમાં પણ તકલીફ. રેશનકાર્ડ પણ એમની પાસે નહીં.

અમારા કાર્યકર રમેશભાઈ, પરેશભાઈને એમના વિષે ખ્યાલ આવ્યો ને એમણે બાને રાહત રહે તે માટે અમારા માવજત કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત દર મહિને રેશન આપવા અમને કહ્યું. બાને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. પણ એમના ઘરની હાલત જોઈને પણ રમેશભાઈને જીવ બળે. એમણે બાનું નાનકડુ ઘર થાય તે માટે પણ વાત કરી. 

આ દરમ્યાન જ અમને કેનાડાથી ઊર્વીબેનનો ફોન આવ્યો. એમણે કહ્યું. "કોઈ જરૃરિયાત મંદ પરિવારનું ઘર બાંધવામાં હું મદદરૂપ થઈ શકુ તો મને જણાવજો. અમે કેનેડા આવ્યા ત્યારે પોતાનું ઘર ન હોવાથી જે અનુભવ્યું એટલે થાય કે કોઈને ઘર આપવામાં નિમિત્ત બનવું એ મોટુ સુખ."

ઊર્વીબેનને જીવતબાની વાત કરીને એમનું બાંધવા મદદ કરવા કહ્યું. એમણે તુરત એ સ્વીકાર્યું.

બાનું છાપરુ ચોમાસા દરમ્યાન અને સતત વરસાદના કારણે હટાવવું થોુડુ મુશ્કેલ બન્યું. પણ હમણા એ હટાવ્યું. પાયા ખોદવાનું શરૃ કરતા પહેલા ભૂમીનું પૂજન થાય એવી પરેશભાઈ, રમેશભાઈની ઈચ્છા તે હમણાં ખેરાલુ બાજુ જવાનું થયું ત્યારે જીવતબાના ત્યાં પણ જવાનું થયું.

બાના હાથે જમીનનું પૂજન કર્યું. હવે ઘર બાંધકામ શરૃ કરીશું.

બાને પૂછ્યું કે કેવું ઘર જોઈએ તો કહે, "એક રૃમ ઓસરી અને ઘરના પાછળના ભાગમાં ટોયલેટ બાથરૃમ બાંધી આપજો. ઘર પાછળ બાથરૃમ ટોયલેટ હોય તો મને સારુ રહે."

બાની આ વાત સમજાય એવી હતી. એમને ચાલવામાં તકલીફ એટલે આ વ્યવસ્થા કરવા એમણે કહ્યું. અમે એમની ઈચ્છા મુજબનું ઘર બાંધી આપીશું. 

 પ્રભૂએ આપેલા પરમ ધનની લાહણી કરવાની તાકાત બધામાં નથી. પરમ કૃપાળુ પરમાત્માની જેના પર કૃપા થાય એ આવી લહાણી કરી શકે. ઊર્મીબેન જેવા અનેક સ્વજનો આવા કાર્યોમાં અમારી સાથે છે માટે આવા કામો થાય છે. આપ સૌની આ લાગણી માટે આભારી છું.

બા જેવા અનેકોને મદદ કરી શકીએ એવી ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના...

આમ તો જીંદગી આખી આનો જવાબ શોધવા મથ્યો.

કે છે ઈશ્વર ને તમે સાંભળવા મથો તો એ જવાબ આપે.

તે એનેય સાદ કર્યો પણ એનેય મારો અવાજ ન સંભળાયો.

મને એકલો, નિરાધાર કેમ રાખ્યો એ જ પુછવું'તુ એને.

પણ ખેર હવે તો પ્રશ્ન પુછવાથી પણ થાક્યો.

હવે વાટ એના સમીપની ને એ હેમખેમ લઈ જાય એની.."

"There is always turmoil in my heart, and I often wonder why I am alone. 

I have sought an answer throughout my life. 

It is said that He answers if you call Him, and I have tried to call out. 

Yet somehow, my voice seems unheard. 

I long to understand why I am kept at a distance and feel helpless. 

Alas, I have grown weary of asking repeatedly, 

Now just waiting for Him to embrace me, protect me, and keep me close."

We provide provisions to 700 destitute seniors who have no one in this world to call their own. Whenever we meet these seniors, they often express their feelings of loneliness. It saddens me to hear how they feel. Yet we remind them, "How can you say you are alone? You are not! You called out to God, and He sent people like us to be with you." Listening to us, many reflect, "What you say is absolutely true."

Bhikhabaapaa lives in Lodaraa, Gandhinagar. While his family takes care of him, he often seems unhappy being dependent on them. However, he has found comfort since we began providing him with rations. He says, "Now I eat with dignity." It is a wonderful feeling to enjoy one’s food with pride.

Many well-wishers support our mission, but the majority of assistance comes from the respected Pratulbhai Shroff of the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation. We are grateful for his help and the support of all our contributors.

જેમનું આ દુનિયામાં કોઈ નથી એવા 700 નિરાધાર માવતરોને અમે રાશન આપવાનું કરીએ. આ માવતરો પાસે જઈએ, બેસીએ ત્યારે બધાની લગભગ અમે એકલા કેમની વાત..

સાંભળીને મન ખિન્ન થાય. પણ પછી અમે કહીએ, "તમે એકલા ક્યાં? તમે હરીને સાદ કર્યો ને અમારા જેવા ને તમારી પાસે એણે મોકલી આપ્યા."

અમારી વાત સાંભળી બધા પાછા એ વાત હાવ હાચી એમ કહે..

ભીખાબાપા ગાંધીનગરના લોદરામાં રહે. તેમની ચાકરી કરનાર કોઈ નહીં. કુટુંબીજનો સાચવે પણ કાકાને ઓશિયાળી લાગતી. અમે રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું ને કાકાને એનાથી નિરાંત. રસોઈ કુટુંબીજનો બનાવી આપે પણ કાકા કહે, "હું સ્વમાનથી ખાવું."

સ્વમાનથી ખાવું બહુ મોટી વાત..

આ કાર્યમાં અનેક સ્વજનો મદદ કરે. પણ આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ -ડો. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનનો આમાં ઘણો મોટો સહયોગ એ માટે એમના ને મદદ કરનાર અન્ય સૌના આભારી..

Yash is a very young person with a "can-do" attitude. He provides regular funding for the social work we do, but we had never met before. This morning, he called and expressed his desire to meet. Coincidentally, I was in Ahmedabad, so I invited him to come over after four o'clock.

When he arrived, I found Yash to be very sensitive and well-read. He bought three of the books I have written and mentioned that he had read "Why Should We Give It Up?" He promised to read the other two books as soon as possible.

I asked him why he wanted to meet, and he simply replied, "Just like that!" Then he took out his cheque book and wrote a cheque for Rs. 50,000. Typically, at his age, young people spend their money on fun or to pursue their hobbies and dreams, but Yash is different—he is unique. He must have had this spirit of service since the beginning, which is why he is able to part with his money so generously.

However, not everyone is destined to use their money for charitable purposes. It requires unique qualities to be a donor, and only those chosen by God have the ability to give.

I was genuinely thrilled meeting him. So many young people like Yash represent the future of India. The progress of our country depends on such youngsters. Yash does not focus on his own happiness; instead, he aims to contribute to the happiness of others.

I pray that God blesses Yash with abundance and that he achieves tremendous success in his service endeavors. I also want to salute his parents for raising such a remarkable young person. Meeting him was a pleasure for me.

યશ એકદમ તરવરિયો જુવાન.

અમે જે સમાજ કાર્ય કરીએ તેમાં એ નિયમીત અનુદાન આપે. પણ મળવાનું ક્યારેય નહોતું થયું. આજે સવારે એનો ફોન આવ્યો ને મળવા આવવું છે એવું કહ્યું. અનાયાસે આજે હું અમદાવાદમાં હતી એટલે ચાર વાગ્યા પછી આવવા કહ્યું. 

એ આવ્યો. એકદમ સંવેદનશીલ એવો યશ વાંચે ખુબ. એણે મે લખેલા ત્રણે પુસ્તકો ખરીદ્યા. એમાંથી “ઈને જાકારો કેમ દેવાય” એણે વાંચ્યું. ને બાકીના પણ હું ઝટ વાચી લઈશ એમ કહ્યું. અણે ખરીદેલા મારા પુસ્તકમાં ઓટોગ્રાફ લખી આપવા કહ્યું. મે આશિષ લખ્યા...

મે પુછ્યું, “કેમ મળવું હતું.” તો કહે, “બસ એમ જ” એ પછી એણે ચેકબુક કાઢીને 50,000નો ચેક લખ્યો.

સામાન્ય રીતે આ ઉંમરે યુવાનો મોજ શોખમાં પોતાના સમણા પૂરા કરવા પૈસા ખર્ચે પણ યશ નોખો હતો. એનામાં આવી સેવા પારાયણ ભાવના પહેલાથી હશે એટલે જ એ આપી શક્યો.

બાકી દાન આપવું બધાના નસીબમાં નહીં.. દાન આપવા પાત્રતા જોઈએ અને ઈશ્વર જેને પસંદ કરે એ દાન આપી શકે.

યશને જોઈને રાજી થવાયું. યશ જેવા અનેક યુવાનો ભારતનું ભાવી.. આવા યુવાનો થકી જ દેશની પ્રગતિ થવાની.. યશ પોતાના સુખનો વિચાર નથી કરતો પણ એ અન્યોના સુખમાં સહભાગી બનવાનું વિચારે. 

આવા યશને ઈશ્વર ખુબ આપે તેવી પ્રાર્થના ને સેવાના ક્ષેત્રમાં એ ખુબ ઉન્નત થાય તેવી શુભભાવના...

Maniba gives blessings to Mittal Patel

 "I don’t go to anyone’s house. I just take care of my household and worship God by singing hymns (Bhajans).”

“Do you know how to sing Bhajan?”

“Yes.”

“Then sing a nice Bhajan for us.”

So, 'Mani Baa' from Surendranagar sang: “Where did old age come from, if the ears cannot hear and the eyes cannot see?”

Baa once had a large family, but Mother Nature had different plans. Two of her sons died when they were fifteen years old. Another son got married, but his kidney failed, and he too passed away. Her brother also left this world after her sons.

How does a family living on labor manage to sustain themselves? Neighbors sometime provide Mani Baa with food. She says, “Modi sends 1,200. That helps a little bit.”

At first, I didn’t understand what she meant by “Modi’s 1,200.” Then I realized she was referring to the Prime Minister.

She has a home, but it is supported by rough wooden beams on the inside. The wooden ceiling is infested with termites, which fall on her while she sleeps in her bed at night. You cannot discern these issues when observing her house from the outside, but they become apparent once you see the interior.

If ManiBaa receives her monthly ration, she would not have to rely on her neighbors for food. One senior living nearby, who receives monthly rations from us, shared this information with our activist, Harshadbhai.

Afterwards, Harshadbhai met with ManiBaa and learned about her situation. He began providing her with monthly rations. She told him, "Now I can prepare my own meals. Previously, they would come and give me food at their convenience. Now, I don’t have to wait for them."

We also plan to build a small house for her, complete with a toilet and bathroom. With the help of the respected Kishorebhai Patel, we will construct Baa's home in the style of KUSH Home, in memory of our dear friend Kushalbhai.

We are proud to be instrumental in providing monthly rations to 700 destitute seniors and are also involved in building homes for 1,751 families. We feel blessed that we can contribute to such meaningful work, and we express our gratitude to all who support this selfless endeavor.

“હું કોઈના ઘીરે નો જાવું. મારુ ઘર હંભાળું ને ભગવાનનું ભજન કરુ.”

“ભજન આવડે?”

“હા”

“તો એક સરસ ભજન અમને પણ સંભળાવો”

ને સુરેન્દ્રનગરના મણી બાએ ઘડપણ ક્યાંથી આવ્યું ઘડપણ, કાને સંભળાય નહીં આંખે દેખાય નહીં ગાયું. બા નો પરિવાર એક વખત ભર્યો ભાદર્યો હતો. પણ કુદરતને કાંઈક જુદું મંજુર હતું. બે દિકરા પંદર -પંદર વર્ષના થયા ત્યારે ગુજરી ગયા ને એક દિકરો પરણાવ્યો પણ એની કિડની ફેઈલ થઈ ને એ પણ દુનિયા છોડી ગયો. દિકરાઓ પછી કાકા પણ ગયા. 

મજૂરી પર નભનાર પરિવાર પાસે બચત તો ક્યાં હોય જેના પર નભાય?

આડોશી પાડોશી મણીબાને ખાવાનું આપે ને મણીબા કહે એમ, “મોદી 1200 આલે તે એના પર હખડ ડખળ હાલે”

પહેલા તો મોદીના 1200? મને સમજાયું નહીં. પછી ખ્યાલ આવ્યો વડાપ્રધાનની વાત કરે છે.

એમની પાસે ઘર ખરુ પણ અંદર ટેકા ઊભા કરેલા. લાકડાની પીઢો એમાં ઊધઈ થઈ ગઈ છે તે બા રાતના ખાટલામાં સુતા હોય તો ઉધઈ ખરે. ઘર બહારથી જોઈએ તો આ બધો ખ્યાલ ન આવે પણ અંદરથી જોઈએ ત્યારે ખ્યાલ આવે. 

આવા મણીબા ને દર મહિનાનું રાશન મળી જાય તો એમને પડોશીઓની ઓશિયાળી ન રહે. એવું એમની નજીકમાં રહેતા અને અમે જેમને દર મહિને રાશન આપતા અમારા એક માવતરે અમારા કાર્યકર હર્ષદભાઈને કહ્યું. 

એ પછી હર્ષદભાઈ મણીબાને મળ્યા. સમગ્ર સ્થિતિ જાણી અને દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. રાશન મળવાથી બાને નિરાંત થઈ. એમણે કહે, “હવે જાતે બનાવીને ખાઉં છું. પહેલા પડોશી એમના ટાઈમે આપવા આવતા હવે મારે એમની રાહ નથી જોવી પડતી.”

આવા બાનું નાનકડુ ઘર ટોયલેટ, બાથરૃમ સાથેનું બંધાય તે પણ કરીશું. આદરણીય કિશોરભાઈ પટેલની મદદથી પ્રિય કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં કુશ હોમના રૃપમાં બાનું ઘર બાંધીશું.

700 નિરાધાર માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન આપવામાં નિમિત્ત બનીએ. સાથે 1751 પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવામાં પણ નિમિત્ત થયા. આવા શુભકાર્યોમાં ઈશ્વર નિમિત્ત બનાવે છે એનો રાજીપો.. ને આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરનાર સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા.

"How to celebrate Diwali? Kaka and Dharmashikaka said, 'We don't have such conveniences. We like sweets, but we don't have the money to buy them. So, we make jaggery water and prepare small puris (called Suwaliya), which we call our sweet.'

Listening to this, my eyes filled with tears.

We provide monthly rations to 600 elderly destitute like Dharmashikaka. We also want their Diwali to be better. So, every year for Diwali, we give all the relatives sweets, jaggery, ghee, suji, whole wheat flour, gram flour, and also extra oil so they can prepare the sweets they like.

This year, many well-wishers helped with the task of giving sweets, and I am grateful to all of them.

With your help, you’ve not only made your own Diwali brighter, but you’ve also made the Diwali of these relatives shine. I thank you all for this.

To the 600 elderly people and to all those who are part of the many service activities through VSSM, I express my heartfelt gratitude. Wishing all of you a very happy Diwali.

દિવાળી કેવી રીતે ઊજવો કાકા ને ધરમશીકાકાએ કહ્યું, અમારી પાસે ક્યાં એવી સગવડ. મીઠાઈ ગમે ખરી પણ ખરીદવા પૈસા નહીં. એટલે અમે તો ગોળનું પાણી બનાવી એમાં સુવાળીઓ(પુરી) બનાવી હોય એને બોળી દઈએ. એ અમારી મીઠાઈ..

સાંભળીને આંખો ભીની થઈ ગઈ..

ધરમશીકાકા જેવા 600 માવતરોને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે. તેમની દિવાળી સુધરે એ પણ જોવાનું. એટલે દર વર્ષે દિવાળી નિમિત્તે તમામ માવતરોને મીઠાઈ, ગોળ, ઘી, સોજી, ઘઉંનો જાડો લોટ, ચણાનો લોટો અને દર મહિને આપીયે એના કરતા તેલ વધારે આપીયે જેથી એ એમને ગમતી મીઠાઈ બનાવી શકે...

આ વર્ષે મીઠાઈ આપવાના કાર્યમાં અનેક સ્વજનોએ મદદ કરી એ સૌની આભારી છું.

તમે તમારી દિવાળીની સાથે સાથે આ માવતરોની દિવાળી પણ ઝગમતી કરી એનો રાજીપો..

સૌને દિવાળીની ઝગમગતી શુભેચ્છા....

600 માવતરો અને VSSM થકી થતા અનેક સેવા કાર્યોમાં નિમિત્ત બનનારા આપ સૌ સ્વજનો પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા.. ને તમને સૌ દિવાળીની શુભેચ્છા..

Mittal Patel meets Daria Ba in Amodard village

Sunil, our worker from Vadodara, showed our driver Darshan the way to Amodard village, saying we were going to meet Daria Ba. We arrived at the Rathodiya Faliya in the village. The car stopped outside the Faliya, and we walked to Daria Ba's home.

Though we called it a home, whether to refer to it as such was questionable. Daria Ba was seated amidst the decay of her surroundings, her frail body barely visible. At first glance, it resembled the vision of hell.

One of her sons is mentally challenged. He wanders off but eventually returns to Daria Ba for food. Daria Ba survives with the help of her neighbors, who occasionally provide her with sustenance.

Realizing the situation, we started providing rations every month. The kind neighbors also bring firewood, enabling her to cook.

Food and drink seemed to be a distant luxury, but seeing the condition of the hut where she lives... words fail to capture the despair.

On the day we visited, it was unbearably hot. It was hard to imagine Ba living in such heat.

Even going to the toilet or bathroom was a huge struggle.

Given the situation, we decided to build her a small house. Our Kishor uncle (Kishorbhai Patel) helped with this. In memory of our dear Kushalbhai, we decided to prepare this new home and started the construction.

We express our gratitude to those who helped us provide rations to Daria Ba, and we bow to Kishor uncle for assisting in building her home.

Imagining the comfort Ba will find in this house is difficult. Just thinking about the monsoon and the conditions she endured is unsettling.

It’s a blessing to be a part of bringing relief to the lives of so many individuals.

આપણે દરિયા બાને મળવા જવાનું છે એમ કહીને વડોદરના અમારા કાર્યકર સુનિલે અમારા સારથી દર્શનને આમોદરદ ગામનો રસ્તો બતાવ્યો. ગામના રાઠોડિયા ફળિયામાં અમે પહોંચ્યા. ગાડી ફળિયા બહાર ઊભી રહી ને અમે ચાલતા દરિયાના ઘરે પહોંચ્યા. 

ઘર તો અમે બોલીયે પણ ઘર કહેવું કે કેમ એ સવાલ. કંતાનની આડાશોમાં જીર્ણ દેહધારી બા બેઠેલા. આંખે ઝાંખપ. પ્રથમ નજરે નર્કની કલ્પના આપણે કરીએ તેવું નર્ક જ જણાયું.

એમનો એક દિકરો માનસીક વિકલાંગ. એ ગમે ત્યાં ભટકે પણ ટાણુ થાય એટલે દરિયા બા પાસે ખાવા આવે. દરિયા બાને આડોશી પાડોશી વધેલું ઘટેલું આપે ને એ જીવે.

સ્થિતિ ખ્યાલ આવતા અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. પડોશીઓ સારા તે બળતણ  લાવી આપે એનાથી એમનો ચૂલો સળગે. 

ખાવા પીવાનું તો જાણે હખ થઈ ગયું. પણ એ જ્યાં રહે તે ઝૂંપડાની દશા જોઈને તો... ઘડિક તો શું બોલવું સમજાય નહીં.

જે દિવસે મળવા ગયા તે દિવસે સખત તાપ હતો. સહન ન થઈ શકે એવી ગરમીમાં બા રહે..

ટોયલેટ - બાથરૃમ જવાની પણ ભયંકર તકલીફ. 

સ્થિતિ જોઈને નાનકડુ ઘર કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. ને એ માટે મદદ કરી અમારા કિશોર અંકલે(કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ). પ્રિય કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં આ કુશ હોમ તૈયાર કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું ને એનું બાંધકામ પણ શરૃ કર્યું...

દરિયા બાને રાશન આપવામાં નિમિત્ત બનનાર સ્વજનોના અમે આભારી સાથે ઘર બનાવવામાં મદદ કરનાર કિશોર અંકલને પ્રણામ..

આ ઘરમાં બાને કેવી સાતા મળશે એની કલ્પના કરવી પણ મુશ્કેલ. ચોમાસુ તો એ જે સ્થિતિમાં રહેતા ત્યાં કેવું જતું હશે એ વિચારીને કમકમા આવી જાય..

આવા અનેક વ્યક્તિઓના જીવનને સાતા આપવામાં નિમિત્ત બન્યાનો રાજીપો.

Mittal Patel visits elderly couple in Ravindra village

"Narankaka eagarly looks for you a lot. Whenever I go to provide ration, the first question is when Ben(sister) will come to visit? We have spare time today. Shall we go to Ravindra village?"

The moment our Patan district co-ordinator Mohanbhai said this, Jivat Baa also appeared before my eyes vividly. I also had an indomitable desire to meet her. She was suffering from last stage cancer. Mohanbhai revealed that if she dies beofore meeting me she would die with her last desire to meet me, unfulfilled. I specially went to meet Jivat Baa. Within a few days of meeting, Baa passed away.

Narankaka's health is comparatively good. We wish him to live for a hundred years. If he continuously desires to meet me, I felt that I should go to meet him. I expressed my desire to go to Ravidra village. 

We reached Ravindra from Patan. Narankaka has a fragile hut in his field. His health is fragile due to recent surgery. His wife Taaraabaa looks after him.

Narankaka says, "before you started helping, family members and daughter were helping But I felt it burdensome. As against it, when you help, I don't feel burdened."

We sat on the cot next to him. We talked over many topics. He offered lemonade. His wished we should have lunch with him. We said we will come some other time for that. But, it was hard to convince him.  

Mohankaka kept constantly thanking us. We said, "We are just instruments.There are so many wellwishers to help. With their help, we just arrange to provide ration to 600 elderly people like you." Narankaka blessed us all.

Narankaka's caretaker guardian is Ashwinbhai Chaudhary of Palanpur. Many many thanks to him...

નારણકાકા તમારી ખુબ વાટ જુએ જ્યારે પણ રાશન આપવા જવું ત્યારે પહેલો સવાલ બેન ક્યારે આવશે એ પુછે તે આજે સમય છે રવિન્દ્રા જઈ આવીયે?

અમારા #પાટણ જિલ્લાના કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ આ કહ્યું ને મને જીવતમા યાદ આવ્યા. એમની પણ મને મળવાની અદમ્ય ઈચ્છા. એમને છેલ્લા સ્ટેજનું કેન્સર. કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ એ વખતે કહેલું તમે નહીં આવો તો તમારામાં એમનો જીવ રહી જશે.. એ પછી હું જીવતમાને ખાસ મળવા ગયેલી. મળીને આવ્યાના થોડાક જ દિવસમાં બા આ દુનિયા છોડી ગયા.

નારણકાકાની તબીયત ઘણી સારી એ સો વર્ષ જીવે એવું ઈચ્છીયે. પણ એ સતત યાદ કરે તો મળવા જવું જોઈએ એમ લાગ્યું ને મોહનભાઈને રવિદ્રા જશુંનું કહ્યું. 

પાટણથી #રવિન્દ્રા પહોંચ્યા. કાકાનું ખેતરમાં કાચુ છાપરુ. એમનું ઓપરેશન થયેલું એટલે તબીયત નાજુક. તારાબા એમના પત્ની એ એમને સાચવે.

કાકા કહે, તમે મદદ નહોતા કરતા ત્યારે કુટુંબીજનો, દીકરી મદદ કરતા. પણ એ બહુ રુચતુ નહીં. આ તમે આપો એનો ભાર નથી લાગતો..

એ ખાટલે બેઠેલા એમની બાજુના ખાટલામાં અમે બેઠા. ખુબ વાતો થઈ. એમણે લીંબુનું શરબત પીવડાવ્યું. એમની ઈચ્છા તો અમે રોટલા ખાઈએ એવી. એ માટે અમે ફરી આવીશુંનું કહ્યું. એ માંડ માન્યા. 

સતત આભાર માનતા કાકાને અમે કહ્યું, અમે તો નિમિત્ત બાકી મદદ કરનારા તો ઘણા સ્વજનો ને એમની મદદથી જ તમારા જેવા 600 બા દાદાઓને રાશન આપી શકીયે છીએ. કાકાએ સૌને આશિર્વાદ આપ્યા.

Mittal Patel meets Urmila Ba

 In Patel's place  they have done up a small room with metal sheets but there is no door. "Why don't you make a door for the home." Urmilaba requested. 

"If I have to go somewhere, I can close the door. Since you have started giving food grains it is getting stolen. I feel ashamed to ask Mohanbhai for more grains within a few days. He may think I have sold the grains that were given. That's why a door is important.

This was stated by Urmilaba, who lives in Patan. Her husband passed away some time ago. There is no one in the family who takes care of her now..

Neighbours are good and they often provide Urmilaba with food. However Ba does not like it. Earlier she had no choice but to take it from the neighbours but since VSSM started providing it , she does not have to borrow from any one. 

With old age pension and the ration, Ba can manage. She requested that if she can get some help for the medicine that she has to buy, it will be good. She doesn't like to ask for financial help but sometimes it becomes a compulsion..

'પટેલની જગ્યામાં આ પતરાની ઓરડી કરી છે પણ દરવાજો નથી તમે પતરાનો દરવાજો કરી આપો ને' 'કેમ દરવાજો નથી..'

'ના હું ક્યાંક જવું તો પતરુ આડુ કરીન જવું. પણ હમણા હમણાથી તમે જે અનાજ આપો એ ચોરાઈ જાય. મોહનભાઈ(vssm ના કાર્યકર) આપી જાવ એટલે ફરી પાંચ દાડામાં એમની પાહે માંગવામાં શરમ આવે. એમને થાય કે વેચી માર્યું હશે પણ ચોરી જાય હું કરુ. એટલે દરવાજો..'

પાટણમાં રહેતા ઊર્મીલાબાએ આ કહ્યું. એમના પતિ થોડા વખત પહેલા મૃત્યુ પામ્યા. પરિવારમાં કાળજી કરે એવું હવે કોઈ નથી. 

બાના પડોશીઓ ઘણા સારા એ લોકો ઘણી વખત ખાવાનું આપી જાય. પણ બાને એ ખાસ ગમે નહીં. ના છુટકે લેવું પડતું. પણ હવે દર મહિને રાશન મળતા એમને નિરાંત થઈ ગઈ. 

વૃદ્ધ પેન્શન મળે ને અમે આપીયે એ રાશનકીટ એનાથી એમનું ચાલી જાય. દવાનો ખર્ચ જરા વધારે થાય છે એ મદદ મળે તો સારુ એવું ભારે હૈયે એમણે કહ્યું. દરેક વ્યક્તિને માંગવું ગમે નહીં.. પણ ક્યારેક મજબૂરીમાં...

Mittal Patel meets Panchabhai and his son

In the village of Devkigalol in Jetpur District in Rajkot stays Panchabapa. The house of Panchabapa is right in the middle of the street. The small house is built with raw bricks. Panchabapa has no money to do the flooring so the house would get flooded in monsoon. He would keep on removing the water. The walls were weak and it would become damp in the monsoon. When there is lightning it feels that the house would collapse. 

Panchabapa does the work of a cobbler. He has a lot of self respect and would never ask for help from anyone. He has a son who was handicapped. & therefore could not work. Father & son stayed together in a small room.

Bapa's vision had also grown weak yet he would cook food. His neighbours would also take proper care of him but everyone has their own house to take care of. So Bapa would not like to bother them.

Bapa's house did not have proper vessels. We reached his home in the afternoon. There were Rotis made but there was no vessel to keep it safe. Rotis were kept in a wax bag.

Both father & son could not work. We provide them with the monthly food kit. This helps them to meet their daily food requirement and they live a respectful life. Our associate Smt Chhayaben has seen Bapa in distress because he did not have a proper roof in his house. She requested us to construct a proper house for Bapa. After meeting him we felt that we should make his home without any delay. 

We requested our well wisher Shri Kishorebhai Patel from USA,  He, in memory of his son Kushal, immediately agreed to build a "Kush" home for Bapa. He also gave vessels for the house for which we are extremely thankful. It is because of kind hearted people like him that such work gets done.

During storms the roof would fly off and during monsoon the floor would get flooded.   He would be put into very serious difficulty. It was his wish that the roof & floor be repaired & there would be one light and a fan in the house. Having spent his entire life repairing footwear he had no money to fulfill his wish. VSSM became instrumental in fulfilling Bapa's wish & we are happy about it.

રાજકોટના જેતપુરનું દેવકીગાલોલ ગામ. ગામમાં પાંચાબાપા રહે. આમ બાપા જ્યાં રહે તે શેરીમાં બાપાનું ઘર બરાબર વચ્ચો વચ.. કાચી ઈંટોમાંથી ચણેલી નાનકડી ઓરડી. ઓરડીનું તળિયું નાખવા પૈસા નહીં તે તળિયું નાખેલું નહીં. ચોમાસામાં ઘરમાં પાણી ભરાય. બાપા કહે, ચોમાસામાં સતત પાણી ઉલેચતો રહું. ભીંતો કાચી એટલે બધે ભેજ. ને વીજળીના કડાકા થાય ત્યારે તો ઘર પડી જશે તો એવું થાય..

પાંચાબાપા ગામમાં મોચી કામ કરતા. બાપા સ્વમાની કોઈ સામે હાથ લાંબો કરવો ગમે નહીં.. એમના એક દિકરા. પણ એ વિકલાંગ. ખાસ કામ ન કરી શકે. બાપ દીકરો એકલા ઓરડીમાં રહે.

બાપાને આંખો ઓછુ ભળાય. છતાં રસોઈ એમના ભાગે.. એમની બાજુમાં રહેતા કટુંબીજનો પણ બાપાને બરાબર સાચવે. પણ દરેક પોતાનું ઘર લઈને બેઠુ છે એટલે એમને બોજો ન અપાય એવું બાપા કહે.

ઘરમાં સરખી ઘરવખરી પણ નહી. અમે બપોરે પહોંચ્યા. એમણે રોટલીઓ બનાવેલી. પણ રોટલી ભરવા ડબ્બો નહીં તે એક મીણિયાની થેલીમાં રોટલીઓ એમણે ભરેલી..

કામ તો બાપ દીકરાથી થાય નહીં. અમે એ સ્વમાનભેર ખાઈ શકે તે માટે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે.

પણ બાપાના માથે સરખી છત નહીં. એમને હેરાન થતા જોઈ અમારા કાર્યકર  બાપાનું ઘર કરી દેવા અમને કહ્યું ને બાપાને મળ્યા પછી તત્કાલ ઘર કરી દેવાની લાગણી થઈ.

અમેરીકામાં રહેતા અમારા કિશોર અંકલ(કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ) ને કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં આ કુશ હોમ બનાવવા વાત કરીને અંકલે તુરત એ માટે હા કહી. અંકલે તો જરૃર પડે ઘરવખરી પણ કરી દેવાનું કહ્યું. અંકલની આ લાગણી માટે ઘણી આભારી છું... તેમના જેવા સ્વજનોના સહયોગથી જ આ બધા કામો થાય...

પાંચાબાપાને વાવાઝોડામાં પતરા ઉડી જાયની બીક લાગે, ચોમાસામાં પાણી ભરાય ને એ દુઃખી થઈ જાય. એમની ઈચ્છા આ પીડા દૂર થાય ને ઘરમાં એકાદ પંખો, લાઈટની સુવિધા થાય તેવું ઘર કરવાની હતી. પણ આખી જીંદગી ચંપલ સાંધવામાં ગઈ. એમાં કાંઈ ઝાઝુ ભેગુ ન કરી શક્યા.

બાપા અમારા એટલે એમનું સરસ ઘર થાય એમાં VSSM નિમિત્ત બનશે...
