“This bed has never been empty…”
The moment one hears these words of Pravinbhai, the heart feels heavy.
Since childhood—first his father, then his mother, then his elder sister, then his younger sister… and even today, one sister is still confined to the bed.
Whoever lies on that bed, the entire responsibility falls on Pravinbhai’s shoulders. From helping with toileting to taking care of every daily need, everything is done by his own hands.
We asked him, “Don’t you ever complain about this life?”
Pravinbhai calmly replied, “Complain about what? Can you abandon your own? One has to fulfill what is written in one’s fate, isn’t it?”
Seeing Pravinbhai’s condition in Samedra village of Banaskantha, our hearts ached.
In the entire household, Pravinbhai is the only one blessed with understanding and a sense of responsibility. The rest of the brothers and sisters are mentally challenged.
Why did this happen? Pravinbhai has no answer. But the neighbours say, “At birth, they were all perfectly fine, but over the years, their mental condition slowly deteriorated.”
It feels as though God has given Pravinbhai a special strength for service. He cannot go out to work, as he has to take care of so many people at home. Yet he has not lost courage. Since he knows how to use a sewing machine, he stitches torn clothes for villagers.
For food, they receive ration kits from VSSM. In addition, a kind-hearted man from Palanpur also provides ration kits. With this help, meals are prepared at home.
From the ₹3,000 received from the government for three persons with disabilities, expenses such as medicines, milk, and vegetables are somehow managed.
Pravinbhai says, “When we receive ration, I can peacefully take care of everyone. Otherwise, it becomes very difficult.”
Truly, in today’s times, Pravinbhai is like Shravan as a son and like Lakshman as a brother.
He has never abandoned his parents and siblings, even while living in extreme hardship.
He carries his duty not as a burden, but as a sacred responsibility.
We are grateful that we could provide some comfort to this family through ration support.
May God always keep His hand over Pravinbhai’s head—this is our prayer, and we find contentment in being a small instrument in this service.
“આ ખાટલો ક્યારેય ખાલી નથી થયો…”
પ્રવિણભાઈના આ શબ્દો સાંભળતા જ મન ભરાઈ જાય.
નાનો હતો ત્યારથી પહેલા પિતા, પછી મા, પછી મોટી બહેન, પછી નાની બહેન… અને આજે પણ એક બહેન ખાટલે પડી છે.
જે ખાટલો પકડે, એની તમામ જવાબદારી પ્રવિણભાઈના ખભા પર. ઝાડો-પેશાબથી લઈને રોજિંદી તમામ સેવા એમના હાથેથી થાય.
અમે પૂછ્યું, “આ જીવન સામે ફરિયાદ નથી?”
જવાબમાં પ્રવિણભાઈ શાંતિથી કહે,“શાની ફરિયાદ? પોતાના હોય એને થોડા છોડી દેવાય? કરમમાં લખેલું તો પુરુ કરવાનું ને?”
બનાસકાંઠાના સેમેદ્રાગામમાં રહેતા પ્રવિણભાઈની સ્થિતિ જોઈને જીવ બળી ગયો.
આખા ઘરમાં એકમાત્ર પ્રવિણભાઈ જ એવા જેમને સમજ અને જવાબદારીની મતિ઼. બાકીના ભાઈ-બહેનો તો માનસિક રીતે નિજાનંદી.
આ બધું કેમ થયું? એનો જવાબ પ્રવિણભાઈ પાસે નથી. પણ પડોશીઓ કહે, "જન્મ્યા એ વખતે તો બધા સરસ હતા, પણ થોડા વર્ષોમાં ધીમે-ધીમે માનસિક સ્થિતિ બદલાતી ગઈ."
ઈશ્વરે પ્રવિણભાઈને ચાકરી કરવાની વિશેષ શક્તિ આપી હોય એવું સ્થિતિ જોઈને લાગ્યું. એ બહાર જઈને કામ કરી શકે નહીં. ઘરમાં આટલા બધાને સાચવવાના. પણ હિંમત હારી નથી. સિલાઈ મશીન ચલાવતાં આવડે એટલે ગામમાં કોઈના ફાટેલા કપડાં સાંધવાનું કરી આપે.
ખાવા-પીવા માટે VSSM તરફથી રાશનકીટ મળે. એ સિવાય પાલનપુરના એક સહૃદય ભાઈ પણ રાશનકીટ આપે. આ બે મદદથી ઘરમાં જમવાનું બની જાય.
સરકાર તરફથી ત્રણે દિવ્યાંગ માટે મળતા 3000 રૂપિયા માંથી દવા, દૂધ, શાકભાજી જેવા નાનામોટા ખર્ચો નીકળી જાય.
પ્રવિણભાઈ કહે છે, “રાશન મળે એટલે હું શાંતિથી આ બધાની સેવા કરી શકું છું.
નહીં તો બહુ અઘરું થઈ જાય.”
ખરેખર, પ્રવિણભાઈ આજના સમયમાં શ્રવણ જેવો દીકરો અને લક્ષ્મણ જેવો ભાઈ છે.
કપરી સ્થિતિમાં જીવતા માતા-પિતા અને ભાઈ-બહેનોને એમણે ક્યારેય ત્યજ્યા નથી.
ફરજને ભાર નહીં, પણ ધર્મ સમજીને વહન કરે.
અમે આવા પરિવારને રાશન થકી થોડી સાંત્વના આપી શક્યા એનો રાજીપો.
ઈશ્વર પ્રવિણભાઈના માથે હંમેશા હાથ રાખે એવી પ્રાર્થના ને અમને નિમિત્તનો સંતોષ.
