“Will you come to Morikha village? Please come and see our situation once. We are forced to stay in schools. Two to four families are crammed into a single room. It has been a month since water started entering our homes.”

Hearing this, my heart was shaken. When we went to Morikha, a villager named Valabhai said, “Come, see our homes.” We sat in a tractor, but it got stuck on the way. After that, everyone had to walk through the water.

Natubhai from the village was also with us. Natubhai has no children, and we had earlier helped him set up a small shop so he could earn a livelihood. But his shop was filled with water. He said, “My fridge and all my goods…” and as he spoke, his eyes filled with tears.

We told him, “Keep courage. You will stand back on your feet again. We are with you.”

But the entire village is submerged in water. It will take days for the water to drain out of the whole village.

We distributed ration kits. We wished to start a community kitchen, but there were disputes related to caste and community.

Anyway, we will continue to help whenever needed. But this area has been flooded in 2015, 2017, and 2025. In my opinion, there is a need to think seriously about rehabilitation for all of them. It is a fact that natural water channels have been blocked. We hope people can be resettled in higher areas.

We will also help people like Natubhai, whose businesses and livelihoods have been affected, to get back on their feet.

Thanks to the friends associated with VSSM. With their support, we were able to reach the affected families immediately and let them know—through ration support—that we stand by them.

"મોરીખા ચાણ આવશો? અમારી એક ફેરા દશા જુઓ. અમે નિશાળમો પડ્યા સીએ. એક એક રૃમમાં બે ચાર પરિવાર ભેગા સીએ. અમારા ઘરોમાંથી પોણી નેકળતા મહિનો થશે."

સાંભળીને હૈયુ હચમચી જાય. અમે મોરીખા ગયા તો ગામના વાલાભાઈએ કહ્યું, "અમારા ઘર જોવા હેડો." ટ્રેક્ટરમાં બેઠા પણ એ રસ્તામાં અટકી ગયું. પછી તો સૌ પાણીમાં ચાલ્યા.

ગામના નટુભાઈ પણ સાથે. નિસંતાન નટુભાઈને રોજી રળવા માટે અમે દુકાન કરી આપેલી. પણ દુકાનમાં પાણી ભરાયેલું. એમણે કહ્યું, "મારુ ફ્રીજ ન બધો સોમોન...." બોલતા બોલતા આંખો ભરાઈ ગઈ. 

અમે કહ્યું, "હીંમત રાખો, તમે ફેર બેઠા થશો અમે સાથે છીએ."

પણ ગામ આખુ પાણીમાં. આખા ગામમાંથી પાણી નીકળતા દિવસો થશે. 

અમે રાશનકીટ આપી. ઈચ્છા સામુદાયીક રસોડું થાય એવી હતી.પણ નાત જાત ની માથાકૂટો.

ખેર જરૃર પડે આગળ પણ મદદ કરીશું.. પણ 2015,2017 અને 2025માં આ વિસ્તાર પાણીમાં ગરકાવ થયો. મારા ખ્યાલથી આ બધાના પુનઃવસન માટે વિચારવું પડે. પાણીના માર્ગો અવરોધાયા છે એ હકીકત છે. ઊંચાણવાળા વિસ્તારમાં વસવાટ થાય એવું ઈચ્છીએ.

નટુભાઈ જેવા જેમના ધંધા રોજગાર ને અસર પહોંચી છે એમને ફેર બેઠા કરવા પણ મદદ કરીશું.

VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોનો આભાર. એમના ટેકાથી અમે તત્કાલ અસરગ્રસ્ત પરિવારો પાસે પહોંચી શક્યા, રાશન થકી એમની પડખે ઊભા છીએ એવું કહી શક્યા.

"मै कडी धूप में चलता हूं

ईस यकीन के साथे

मैं जलुंगा तो मेरे 

घर में उजाला होगा

घर मे चूला जलेगा.."

"I walk in the scorching sun

With this belief;

If I burn, 

my house will be lit and

Food would be cooked on the burning stove."

Proving these poetic lines, I happened to meet some families in the border area of the small desert of Paatdi, Dasaadaa, which is known for its saline soil in Gujarat. 

One notable village is Jaravala, where the Bajaniya families of nomadic tribe reside, located away from the main village. We arrived in the sweltering heat to find that these families live in clay huts on land owned by the forest department. Their livelihood depends on agricultural labor; however, the area's conditions mean they do not have consistent work throughout the year.

In this situation, we applied for the Antyodaya Ration Card to ensure food security for these families. The government is very responsive to this issue. The Honorable Chief Minister and the Welfare Department have been extremely supportive of our mission. With their cooperation, we have successfully provided Antyodaya cards to thousands of families so far.

After advocating for families living in Jarvalaa, they successfully received their Antyodaya cards. We also played a key role in helping these families obtain their Caste Certificates. Currently, we are working to secure a permanent place for them to live. The Honorable Chief Minister is also supportive of this cause, which gives us hope that this task will be completed quickly.

Surendranagar Collector Dr. Rajendra Kumar is a compassionate officer. We met him as well, and he has promised to assist homeless families from nomadic tribes living in Surendranagar district. We are thankful for his support.

Gelabhai expresses his happiness about receiving the ration card. "To be honest, we don't have the skills to handle the paperwork in government offices. But after getting the card, we receive 35 kg of grains, sugar, and sometimes pulses as well. This support means a lot to us."

Supporting families like Gelabhai's would be impossible without a strong team. This mission is made possible thanks to the support of Respected Pratulbhai Shroff and the Dr. K R Shroff Foundation, for which we are very grateful. 

All of this has been achieved through the hard work of our dedicated activists, Harshadbhai and Chhanabhai, from Surendranagar. We are fortunate to have such committed volunteers on our team.

આ પંક્તિઓને સાર્થક કરતા પરિવારોને હમણાં મળવાનું થયું. ગુજરાતનો ખારોપાટ એટલે પાટડી, દસાડાનો નાના રણની કાંધીએ આવેલો વિસ્તાર. 

ત્યાંનું જરવલા ગામ. બજાણિયા પરિવારો ગામથી દૂર રહે. બળબળતી ગરમીમાં અમે ત્યાં પહોંચ્યા. જંગલ  વિભાગની જમીનમાં ગાર માટીમાંથી બનાવેલા ઘરોમાં આ પરિવારો રહે. ખેતમજૂરી પર સૌ નભે. પણ વિસ્તાર  એવો તે બારે મહિના મજૂરી ન મળે. 

આવામાં આ પરિવારોની અન્ન સુરક્ષા જળવાય તે માટે અમે અત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડ માટે અરજી કરી. સરકાર વિચરતી જાતિઓના મુદ્દે ઘણી સંવેદનશીલ આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી તેમજ પૂરવઠા વિભાગ પણ અમને આ કાર્યમાં ખુબ સહયોગ કરે. એમના સહયોગથી અત્યાર સુધી હજારો પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ અમે અપાવી શક્યા છીએ. 

જરવલામાં રહેતા પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ મળે તે કરેલી રજૂઆતને પગલે તેમને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ મળ્યા. જાતિના પ્રમાણપત્ર આ પરિવારોને મળે તે માટે પણ નિમિત્ત બન્યા.

બસ હવે રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા મળે તે માટે મથી રહ્યા છીએ. આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીની લાગણી છે તો એ કાર્ય પણ ઝટ પતશે એમ લાગે છે. 

સુરેન્દ્રનગર કલેક્ટર શ્રી ડો. રાજેન્દ્રકુમાર પણ ઘણા ભલા અધિકારી. એમને પણ મળવાનું થયું. એમણે વિચરતી જાતિના સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લામાં રહેતા ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને મદદ કરવાની ખાતરી આપી છે. એમની આ લાગણી માટે પણ આભારી..

રેશનકાર્ડ મળ્યાનો હરખ કેવો એ અંગે ગેલાભાઈ કહે, “હાચુ કહીએ તો સરકારી કચેરીમાં કાગળિયા કરવાની અમારી આવડત નહીં. પણ કાર્ડ મળ્યા પછી અમને 35 કિ.ગ્રામ અનાજ, ખાંડ અને ક્યારેક દાળ પણ મળે છે. અમને એનાથી મોટો ટેકો..”

ગેલાભાઈ જેવા પરિવારોને ટેકો આપવાનું કાર્ય મજબૂત ટીમ વગર અશક્ય. આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ - ડો. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન આ કાર્યમાં મોટો ટેકો કરે એટલે આ બધુ થાય. પ્રતુલભાઈના અમે ઘણા આભારી.

સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં કાર્યરત અમારા હર્ષદભાઈ અને છનાભાઈની ઘણી મહેનતથી આ બધુ થયું. આ બેઉંની નિસબત માટે રાજીપો..

We have been waiting since long for you to come to Jamnagar

I wanted to come but time was a constraint. I was unable to decide the date. After having appointed  GhulamBhai to take care of the families, it took me almost a year to come.

Do not take such a long time for your next visit

No I will not.

Such pleasant talk happened with the locals of various villages of Jamnagar.

In Kana Chikari village of Lalpur District, there lives "Devipujak" & "Bhopa Rabari '' community. They are seen whenever they have to go towards Porbandar, Jamnagar. They move with a herd of sheep & goats. I feel sorry when I see children with them. I constantly wonder when they will go to school . I am determined to do something good for this community and for the children. 

The land in the village KanaChikari on which they have been located for many years is now bought by a private company. They are now worried where they will stay. They would ask me  " did not they have the first right on the land having stayed on it for so many years?" I have no answer to their question. They definitely would have a right. But being a very passive & non demanding community, they are ignored. Though they can be seen they are treated as if invisible. This is the sad state of affairs , so many years after independence.

However the present government & especially the Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel is a very sensitive person. In a real sense he is interested in ensuring that these people get a permanent address. The nomadic community of Jamnagar is lucky that they also have a very kind hearted Shah Saheb as the Collector. He had allotted the plots in Botad for this community and had seen the joy on the faces of those people. So he has put his machinery to work to allocate the plots near Jamnagar. We met Shri Shah Saheb to discuss all the problems faced by the community. With great clarity & determination he called his team of officers and gave instructions to get the job done rapidly. We need such collectors not only in all the Districts but in the whole country.

We are sure we will be able to do a lot of work in Jamnagar in the next one year.  Dwarka is not far from there. Will reach Dwarka too, very soon !!

 'તમે જામનગરમાં આવો એની કેદુની વાત જોતા'તા.'

'આવવાનું મન તો હતું જ પણ સમયની અનુકુળતા અને ક્યાંય જામનગર આવવાનો સમય નક્કી આમ તો ગોઠવાતો નહોતો નહીં તો કાર્યકર ગુલામભાઈને જામનગરમાં રહેતા આપણા પરિવારોની મદદ માટે ગોઠવ્યા પછી પણ અમારે આવવામાં એક વર્ષ થયું.'

'એ સાચુ પણ હવે લીધો એટલો ટેમ ફેર આવવામાં નો લેતા.'

'નહીં લઉં... '

આવી મીઠી વાતો જામનગર જિલ્લાના વિવિધ ગામોમાં રહેતા અમારા પરિવારો સાથે થઈ. 

લાલપુર તાલુકાનું કાના છિકારી ગામ. ત્યાં દેવીપૂજક અને ભોપા રબારી સમુદાય રહે. ભોપા રબારી સમાજને જ્યારે પણ પોરબંદર, જામનગર બાજુ જવાનું થાય ત્યારે જોવું. માલધારી સમુદાય ઘેટાં બકરાં સાથે વિચરણ કરે. તેમની સાથે નાના બાળકોને જોવું ત્યારે જીવ બળે. આ બાળકોને નિશાળ ભેગા કરવાનું ક્યારે કરીશું એવું સતત થયા કરે. તે હવે આ સમુદાયને મદદરૃપ થવાનું કરીશું ને ભવિષ્યમાં તેમના બાળકો માટે પણ નક્કર કરવાનું કરીશું.

કાના છિકારીગામમાં વર્ષોથી રહેતા વિચરતી જાતિના આ પરિવારોની જમીન એક ખાનગી કંપનીએ ખરીદી લીધી. એટલે આ પરિવારોને હવે ક્યાં જાસુની ચિંતા છે..

આ બધાને મળી ત્યારે અમે તો અહીંયા વર્ષોથી રહેતા તો અમારો હક પહેલાં નો લાગે એવો સવાલ પણ એમણે પુછ્યો..

જવાબ શું આપુ? 'હક લાગે જ. પણ આપણે રહ્યા દૃશ્ય છતાં અદૃશ્ય માણસો. વળી ઉપદ્રવી પણ નહીં એટલે બધા ધ્યાન હોવા છતાં બેધ્યાનપણું આપણને લઈને દાખવે એટલે આઝાદીના આટલા વર્ષે આ સ્થિતિ..'

જો કે હવેની સરકાર ખાસ કરીને મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલ ખુબ લાગણીશીલ. તેઓ ખરા મનથી આ પરિવારોને પાકકુ સરનામુ અપાવવા મદદરૃપ થઈ રહ્યા છે.

જામનગરમાં રહેતા પરિવારોના સદનસીબે હાલ કલેક્ટર તરીકે ત્યાં ફરજ બજાવતા શાહ સાહેબ પણ એવા જ ભલા વ્યક્તિ. એમણે બોટાદમાં વિચરતી જાતિના અમારા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ આપેલા ને એ પરિવારોનો હરખ એમણે જોયેલા એટલે અહીંયા પણ એમણે ટીમને કામે લગાડી દીધી.

જામનગર જિલ્લા વિવિધ વિસ્તારમાં રહેતા પરિવારોના પ્રશ્નોને લઈને શાહ સાહેબને મળ્યા. એમણે પુરી સજ્જતા અને નક્કર કરવાની ભાવનાથી પોતાની ટીમને બોલાવીને બધા કામો ઝટ ઉકલે એ દિશામાં સૂચના આપી. આવા અધિકારીઓની જરૃર દરેક જિલ્લે, તાલુકે આમ તો આખા દેશમાં છે.. 

ખેર અમને વિશ્વાસ છે આવનારા એક વર્ષમાં જામનગરમાં ઘણું કરી શકીશું.. ત્યાંથી પછી તો દ્વારકાય ક્યાંય છેટું.. ત્યાં પણ પહોંચીશું..

“We have grown up in a shanty, but after the birth of our children, we decided to move into a rented pucca room. Enduring monsoons in a shanty is difficult; the children remained ill through the season. Hence we had to move to a better place. But renting a place also comes with its challenges. We are daily wage earners; sometimes, when we are faced with financial difficulties and miss paying the rent, the landlord quarrels with us and throws us and our belongings out of the house. Those were painful days. But now that we have received plots, we are at peace; very soon, we will build the home of our dreams over it. We will now have a permanent address,” there was a pain in her voice when Sonalben, a resident of Surendranagar shared her plight.

VSSM has been striving to obtain plots for the homeless nomadic families of Surendranagar. Our team member  Harshadbhai is very compassionate toward the needs of these families. He helped file applications; consequently, 70 such families have been allotted plots in Khamisana village. 

The Human Rights endeavors VSSM carries need particular imputes, and respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff’s  (KRSF) support helps us work towards the attainment of fundamental rights of these families. Thank you, Pratulbhai.

We have filed applications for housing support for these families. A meeting was organized with the families to consult them on the type of houses they would wish to construct. And there was a unanimous agreement on building houses similar to Gondal’s Sanjivani Society-2. However, each such house costs around Rs. 3.5 lacs, and each family has shown readiness to contribute towards the construction because the house is built once in a lifetime, they feel. And it is rightfully so.

The families will receive Rs. 1.20 lacs for the construction; their houses will be built with the collective support of the government, VSSM, and beneficial families.

 "આખી જીંદગી છાપરામાં કાઢી. પણ છોકરાં આવ્યા પછી ભાડેથી એક રૃમના ઘરમાં રહેવા ગઈ. છાપરાંમાં ચોમાસુ કાઢવું અઘરુ પડે ને છોકરાં બિમારેય બહુ રેતા એટલે. પણ મજૂરી કરીને ઘર ચલાવવાની સાથે છોકરાં મોટા કરવામાં ક્યારેક ઘરનું ભાડુ ભરવામાં આઘુ પાછુ થઈ જાય તો મકાન માલીક આવી ગમે એમ મનફાવે એવું બોલે. ઘણી વખત ઘરમાંથી સામાન બહાર ફેંકી દે, કાઠી મુકે. એ વખતે બહુ રડવું આવતું પણ શું કરીએ? પણ હવે નિરાંત છે. તમે અમારી સાથે રહ્યા અમને રહેવા પોતાના પ્લોટ અપાવ્યા. અને હવે એના માથે ઘર પણ બંધાશે. અમે સરનામાંવાળા થાશું."

સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રહેતા સોનલબહેને ભારે પીડા સાથે આ કહ્યું. 

વર્ષોથી સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં એક જગ્યાએથી બીજે ને ત્યાંથી ત્રીજે રઝળતા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે VSSM મથે. અમારા કાર્યકર હર્ષદભાઈ આ બધા પરિવારો માટે ખુબ લાગણી રાખે.તે એમણે બધાની અરજી કરી અને 70 પરિવારોને ખમીસણાગામાં રહેવા પ્લોટ ફળવ્યા.

આ કાર્ય માટે અમને આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ (KRSF) ઘણી મદદ કરે તેમની મદદથી આ સમુદાયોને તેમના અધિકાર આપાવવાના કાર્યો અમે કરી શક્યા છીએ. તેમના અમે ઘણા આભારી છીએ. 

આ પરિવારોને ફળવાયેલા પ્લોટ પર મકાન બાંધવા સહાય મળે તે માટે અરજી થઈ ગઈ છે. બસ સહાય મળ્યા પછી કેવા ઘર બાંધવા તે બાબતે આ પરિવારો સાથે બેઠક થઈ. બધા પરિવારોએ અમે ગોંડલમાં બાંધેલી સંજીવની સોસાયટી -2 જેવા ઘરો બાંધવાની લાગણી દર્શાવી. પણ એ ઘર બાંધવા 3.5 લાખનો ખર્ચ પ્રત્યેક ઘર દીઠ થાય. 

બધા પરિવારોએ પોતે પણ ઘરમાં પૈસા ઉમેરશે એમ કહ્યું પણ અમારા ઘર સરસ બાંધો. વાત સાચી ઘર એક જ વખત બંધાય છે. 

સરકારના 1.20 લાખ,VSSM પણ ઉમેરશે ને જેમના ઘર બાંધવાના છે એ લોકો પણ પોતાના પૈસા ઉમેરશે. ટૂંકમાં સૌના સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી સરસ ઘર બંધાશે અને આ પરિવારો વગડાંમાંથી વહાલપની વસાહતમાં જશે..

“Allotment of Ration Cards and that too BPL ration cards within such a short time is beyond our comprehension. It has taken us months and sometimes years of struggle to get our existing ration cards reissued upon splitting them.” Prahaladbhai Raval of Gandhinagar’s Lodra shared with great astonishment.

Ludra has a considerable population of Raval families who earn their living as menial labor. While some have pucca homes, others don’t, and many who do not even have a place to call home stay in rented properties. These individuals are enterprising but lack the capital to launch their independent ventures, and it is unaffordable to borrow money from private money lenders at a high-interest rate. We discussed these and many other aspects of their life during the meeting. Now that VSSM is with them, the families experienced a sense of relief. VSSM’s team member Rizwan has made great efforts to ensure the families receive their ration cards and other citizenry documents. We are grateful to the Mamlatdar of Mansa Shri  Vishalbhai Parmar and Additional Mamlatdar Shri Chiragbhai Shah for their promptness in issuing the ration cards. Shri Chiragbhai obliged our team member’s request and paid a visit to the settlement...

We are also grateful to the Public Supply Department of Mansa.

Incidentally, Shri Nimeshbhai Savla and Shilpaben, our well-wishing donors, traveled with us on that day and participated in this noble cause. Our best wishes to these families of Ludra.

 'આટલા જલદી રેશનકાર્ડ એ પણ બીપીએલ મળે એ કલ્પના બહારની વાત હતી પણ જુઓ આ બધું થયું. વિભાજીત રેશનકાર્ડ માટે પણ અમે ઘણા વખતથી મથતા પણ મેળ નહોતો પડતો.'

ગાંધીનગરના લોદ્રામાં રહેતા પ્રહલાદભાઈ રાવળે ભાઈએ આ કહ્યું. 

લોદ્રામાં રાવળ સમુદાયની વસતિ ઘણી મોટી. ઘણા છૂટક મજૂરી કરીને ગુજારો કરે. કેટલાક પાસે પાકા ઘર છે તો કેટલાક પાસે નથી. ઘણા પાસે રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા નથી. ભાડાના મકાનમાં ઘણા રહે છે. ધંધો કરવાની સમજણ છે પણ પાસે મૂડી નથી. વ્યાજવા લાવે તો પોષાય નહીં. આવી ઘણી વાતો તેમની સાથે બેઠક કરી તેમાં તેમણે કરી. 

પણ હવે સૌને નિરાંત એ વાતે હતી કે VSSM એમની સાથે છે. કાર્યકર રીઝવાન એમના માટે ઘણું મથે આ રાશનકાર્ડ માટે પણ એણે જ ફોર્મ ભરીને પ્રયત્ન કરેલા.

માણસા મામલતદાર શ્રી વિશાલભાઈ પરમાર અને નાયબ મામલતદાર શ્રી ચિરાગ શાહનો ઘણો આભાર. આ બેઉની આ સમુદાય માટે ખુબ લાગણી એટલે આ કાર્ય ઝડપથી થયું.

ચિરાગભાઈ તો અમારા કાર્યકર રીઝવાનની લાગણી ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને વસાહતમાં પણ આવ્યા.

Tarlaben Shah (I prefer calling her Ma) from Valod invited me to talk about my learnings and experiences at a study meet; obviously, I was going to grab this opportunity.

The occasion also promised to provide an opportunity to refresh the memories of the late Shri Babubhai Shah ( in whose memory the study meet was organized) for his support and help in enrolling the children of nomadic communities in various Ashram Shala’s across Gujarat.

The campus of Vedhchhi Pradesh Sewa Samiti at Valod is a sacred place for many like me; it ushers memories of extraordinary human beings like Naranbhai Desai and many more.

It is the place that inspired me to work for the welfare of sugarcane workers. South Gujarat is the region that has significantly contributed to shaping the work I do at present, and all the memories rushed back as I travelled to the area.

At 85 years, Tarlaben (Ma) is tremendously active (can put any of us at shame), even on social media. I meet her son Urvinbhai for the first time and meeting them all always brings so much exuberance and warmth, like meeting our own.

As it is always said, ‘we attract our tribe’ the nature of my work has made me part of a wonderful extended family.

તરલાબેન શાહ મને તો એમને માં કહેવાનું જ ગમે. એમનું કહેણ વાલોડથી આવ્યું. વાંચન શિબીરમાં અનુભવોની વાત કરવાનું. 

તક ઝડપી લીધી. આમ પણ જેના સ્મરણમાં આ શિબીર યોજાય તે સ્વ. બાબુભાઈ શાહે વિચરતી જાતિઓના કલ્યાણનું કાર્ય શરૃ કર્યું તે વખતે આ સમુદાયના બાળકોને વિવિધ આશ્રમશાળાઓમાં દાખલ કરવામાં ઘણી મદદ કરેલી. એટલે એ યાદો પણ તાજી થવાની.

વેડછી પ્રદેશ સેવા સમિતી - વાલોડનું પરીસર જ કેવું પવિત્ર. નારણભાઈ દેસાઈથી લઈને અન્ય કેટલાય મહાનુભાવોની યાદ આવી જાય. 

શેરડીકામદારોએ મને સેવાકાર્યો કરવા માટે પ્રેરી એમ હું ચોક્કસ કહીશ. એમ એક રીતે દક્ષીણ ગુજરાતનો ફાળો આજે જે કાર્યો કરી રહી છું તેમાં ઘણો.. વાલોડ જતા એ બધુ પાછુ તાદૃશ્ય થયું.

ખુબ વહાલા તરલાબહેન (માં) 85 વર્ષની વયે યુવાનોને શરમાવે એવા પ્રવૃત. એમને જોઈને જ મજા પડી જાય. સોસિયલ મિડીયામાં પણ એ જબરા એક્ટીવ. એમના દિકરા ઉર્વીનભાઈને પહેલીવાર મળી પણ મજા પડી. બહુ પોતિકા લાગે આ બધા જ.

સેવાકાર્યો સાથે સંકળાવાના લીધે એક નોખો પરિવાર મને મળ્યો. અલબત રચાઈ ગયો એમ કહુ તો ચાલે.. 

આભાર માં તમે મને વાલોડ તેડાવી એ માટે ને મને સળંગ બે કલાક વિદ્યાર્થીઓ તેમજ અન્ય મહેમાનો, ત્યાંના કર્મચારીઓ સાથે વાતો કરવાની મજા પડી.

“Didi, we have requested them numerous times to come to the office, but they are not listening!”

VSSM’s Hiren and Madhubahen complained about the nomadic families of Dholka’s Chaloda village.

Kuvarjikaka stays in Chaloda settlement; he is a destitute elderly and receives a monthly ration kit from VSSM. Hiren often asks anyone to come and collect ration kit on their way to the settlement, yet no one would turn up despite Kuvarjikaka being their relative.

Ten families stay very far from the village; five have land allotted to them, and the rest don’t. All ten families have ration cards, but only 3-4 receive PDS ration.

If these families have documents like caste certificates and income proof, they can file applications for plots, and those who already have plots can file for house construction assistance. But all these processes can be completed only if they visit the office.

I met these families recently. “Why would we do that?” I questioned, to which none of them had any reply. But all of them promised to bring themselves anywhere Madhubahen and  Hirenbhai would call. Connecting the needy to government policies is at the core of VSSM’s activities.

After speaking to the families, I sat down to talk with Kuvarjikaka. “If we had listened to whatever you had said, we would have had a pucca house to stay in!” Currently, he lives in a hut that does not protect him from natural elements. The ration kit has relieved him from the worry of meals; he can at least cook and feed himself. “When this ration kit was unavailable, even if I was unwell I had to find work every day. The body is tired. I cannot work. The ration kit is sufficient to see through the month.” Kaka shared. 

Listening to such honest feedback makes all the effort worthwhile. I hope we reach more such people in need. You, too, can choose to help such elders.

'દીદી કેટલી વાર આ બધાને કચેરીએ આવવા કહ્યું પણ આવતા જ નથી...'અમારા હિરેન અને મધુબહેને ધોળકાના ચલોડાગામમાં રહેતા અમારા વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોની ફરિયાદ કરતા કહ્યું. 

વસાહતમાં કુંવરજીકાકા રહે. નિરાધાર એમને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે. ઘણી વખત હિરેન વસાહતમાંથી કોઈને રાશન લેવા બોલાવે તોય એ લોકો ન આવે. આમ તો કુંવરજી કાકા આ બધાના સગા છતાં..

લગભગ 10 પરિવારો ગામથી ઘણા છેેટે રહે. તેમાંના પાંચ પાસે જે જગ્યા પર રહે તેની આકારણી ખરી જ્યારે બાકીના પાસે નહીં. રાશનકાર્ડનું પણ એવું દસે પાસે કાર્ડ ખરા પણ અનાજ ત્રણ ચારને જ મળે. 

જાતિપ્રમાણપત્ર, આવકનો દાખલો નીકળે તો જેમની પાસે પ્લોટ નથી તેમની પ્લોટ માટે અરજી થાય. ને આકારણી છે તેમના ઘર બાંધવા સહાય માટે અરજી કરી શકાય. પણ એ માટે એમને કચેરીયે આવવું પડે. 

બસ હમણાં આ પરિવારો પાસે જવાનું થયું ને આવું શું કામ કરીએ એ પુછ્યું. પણ જવાબ કોઈ પાસે નહોતો. પણ બધાએ વચન આપ્યું હવે મધુબહેન, હિરેન જ્યાં બોલાવશે ત્યાં જશુંનું...

આ અમારુ ખરુ કામ જરૃરિયાતવાળાને શોધી તેમને સરકાર સુધી પહોંચાડવાનું..

વસાહતના લોકો સાથે રામાયણ કરીને કુંવરજીકાકા સાથે બેઠી એમણે કહ્યું, તમે જે ક્યો એ બધુ પેલણથી હમજી ગ્યા હોત તો મારી પાહે મારુ ઘર હોત. એ હાલ છાપરાંમાં રહે. જેમાં ટાઢ, તડકો, વરસાદ ત્રણેયમાં તકલીફ પડે. પણ એમને અમારા રાશનથી રાહત છે. એ જાતે બનાવીને ખાઈ લે. કાકા કહે, આ રાશન નહોતું મળતું ત્યારે કામ થાય કે ન થાય ગામમાં હલો કરવા, ભેંસો ચરાવવા જતો.. પણ હવે શરીર થાક્યુ ક્યાંય ન જવું તો પણ ચાલે.. તમે આપો એમાં આરામથી મહિનો થઈ રહે..

સાંભળીને સારુ લાગ્યું... બસ આવા પરિવારોને મદદ કરીએ.. તમે પણ અમારા આ કાર્યમાં મદદરૃપ થઈ શકો...

બાકી કુદરત સૌનું ભલે કરે તેવી શુભભાવના...

“It is believed the cat moves her kittens to 7 different homes, but our fate is worse than a kitten’s! We don’t even remember how often we have been compelled to move our house with bags and baggage. Life has been a constant struggle.”

Four years ago, the Bajaniya families living near Viramgam’s  Hansalpur crossroads had shared while narrating their apathy. Subsequently, we helped these families acquire their identity documents and made appeals from the collector’s office to that of the Chief Minister seeking a permanent resolution to issues relating to housing.

After a long wait and numerous rounds to the concerned offices, residential plots for the Bajaniya, Nat, Dafer, Saraniya, Vanzara families have been earmarked. The allotment of plots will also happen shortly.

Many families feared going to the allotted plots; hence, a meeting was arranged to inform and educate them about the developments. Finally, they did understand and agreed to move to the to-be-allotted plots. Amongst them, I liked Shakriba the most. At 65, she possessed an excellent spirit “I am ready to move to any place I am allotted land. Unfortunately, 4 of my peers passed away while waiting for their own houses; I wonder if they have been able to rest in peace! I do not want to suffer a similar fate.”

The Nat also feel whatever government allots is gold; in fact, after clearing their apprehensions, everyone believed the land they receive was worth gold. So I hope it helps everyone settle down nicely.

If they move to their own land, they will not have to fear encroachment drives; their children will be able to receive continuous education and much more.

We are grateful to the government and administration for allotting plots to these homeless families. And a special mention to the hard work and efforts of our team members  Madhubahen and Hiren for their constant follow-ups; it was their efforts of collecting the documents to filing applications that made the acquiring of plots possible. It is an honor to have such hardworking team members.

 "કહે છે કે બિલાડી બચ્ચાને જન્મ આપ્યા પછી સાત ઘરે ફરે...  પણ અમે તો જનમ્યા પછી કોણ જાણે કેટલી જગ્યા બદલીએ. આજે અહીંયા તો કાલે ક્યાંક બીજે.. કેટલીવાર છાપરાં પણ તુટે.. બહુ મુશ્કેલ જીંદગી.."

વિરમગામ હાંસલપુર ચોકડી પાસે રહેતા બજાણિયા પરિવારોએ ચાર વર્ષ પહેલાં આ કહેલું. એ પછી આ પરિવારોના ઓળખના આધારો અમે કઢાવ્યા ને કાયમી ધોરણે રહેવાની મુશ્કેલીનું નિવારણ આવે તે માટે મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીથી લઈને કલેક્ટર શ્રીને લખ્યું.

ઘણી લાંબી માથા કૂટો, ધક્કા પછી છેક હમણાં વિરમગામના બજાણિયા ઉપરાંત, નટ, ડફેર, સરાણિયા, વણઝારા વગેરે પરિવારોના પ્લોટની જગ્યા નીમ કરવામાં આવી. બસ ટૂંક સમયમાં આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ પણ ફળવાશે. કેટલાક પરિવારો જ્યાં જગ્યા મળી ત્યાં જવામાં ગભરાતા હતા આથી આ બધા સાથે ક્રમશઃ બેઠક કરી એમને સમજાવ્યા. 

આખરે બધા જ સહમત થયા. મને આ બધામાં એક શકરીબા બહુ ગમ્યા. એમણે કહ્યું, 'મને તો ક્યાંય પણ જગ્યા આપે લેવામાં કશો વાંધો નથી. મારી સાથેના ચાર જણા પોતાની જગ્યા, પોતાનું ઘરનું રટણ કરતા કરતા ગયા. જીવ અધૂરો રહ્યો હશે એમનો. પણ મારુ તો જીવતે જીવત થઈ જશે.'

 શકરીબા 65 થી વધુના પણ જુસ્સો જબરો..નટ સમાજને પણ સરકાર જે આપે તે સોનાનું એમ લાગે... જો કે હવે બધા સોનાનું માને. મૂળ જે બાબતને લઈને ભય હતો એ દૂર થયો માટે. 

બસ સૌ ઠરી ઠામ થાય. 

પોતાની જગ્યા મળે તો કોઈ કાઢી મુકશેનો ભય નહીં રહે. બાળકો ભણશે ને બીજુય ઘણું થશે... આ ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ આપવાનું કરનાર સરકાર, કલેક્ટર શ્રી તેમજ વહીવટીતંત્રના અમે આભારી છીએ.અમારા કાર્યકર મધુબહેન અને હીરેન આમાં સખત દોડે.. બેઉની મહેનતથી આ પરિવારોના ડોક્યુમેન્ટ ભેગા કરી દરખાસ્ત પૂર્ણ કરી શક્યા. આવા સંનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકરો સાથે હોવાનું ગૌરવ...
