“Many thanks, Saheb, we have been struggling for many years to obtain ration cards and residential plots. At last, a District Collector has paid attention to our needs, and our work is accomplished.” The madari families of Kheda’s  Taiyabpur village were a happy bunch. While most Madari families living in Taiyabpur had received residential plots, a few had been left out. VSSM’s Rajnibbhai had helped them file applications. After Collector Shri Bachani Saheb and DDO Shir Mehul Dave took charge of the Kheda district, they began working on the pending applications.

Thirteen families received plots, while 34 remain due to a lack of support documents. The families do not have ration cards. VSSM has filed applications for these 34 families and other families who did not have ration cards. Consequently, 60 families received ration cards. We are hoping they will soon begin to receive grains too.

Once the elections are over, we will also follow up on the allotment of residential plots.

We are grateful to the Kheda administration for their sensitive approach towards these families; it has helped us accomplish many long pending tasks. Hopefully, with the continued pace, we will achieve the remaining tasks.

તૈયબપુરામાં રહેતા ઘણા મદારી પરિવારોને રહેવા પ્લોટ મળી ગયેલા પણ કેટલાક પરિવારો બાકી. બાકી રહેલા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈએ અરજી કરેલી. 

કલેક્ટર શ્રી બાચાણી સાહેબે  અને જિલ્લા વિકાસ અધિકારી શ્રી મેહુલ દવે સાહેબે ખેડાનો કાર્યભાર સંભાળ્યો ને અમારી કરેલી અરજીઓ પર કાર્યવાહી શરૃ થઈ. 

13 પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફળવાયા. 34 જેટલા પરિવારો હજુ બાકી પણ એમના પુરાવામાં તકલીફો. મૂળ રેશનકાર્ડ એમની પાસે નહીં. અમે આ 34 ને એ સિવાયના કે જેમની પાસે કાર્ડ નહોતા તે પરિવારોની અરજી કરી અને 60થી વધુ પરિવારોને કાર્ડ મળ્યા. હા અનાજ મળવાનું હજુ શરૃ નથી થયું. પણ એ પણ ઝડપથી થશે.  

સાથે બાકી રહેલા પરિવારોને પણ ચૂંટણી પતે પછી પ્લોટ ફળવાય તે માટે અમે પાછી રજૂઆત કરીશું.

પણ ખેડા વહીવટીતંત્રનો ખાસ આભાર એમની લાગણીના લીધે આ બધા કાર્યો સરસ થાય છે.. હજુ કેટલુંક બાકી છે એ બધુ પણ પતે એવી આશા...

A decent roof over our heads is a dream most of us work to achieve. Although many of us would migrate to other regions or foreign lands to earn a decent living, the journey begins with finding a rented house that grows to own as soon as possible. After that, most of us aspire to have a permanent address, a home where time stops.

VSSM strives to find addresses for the nomadic and de-notified communities. We had filed applications for allotment of plots for homeless families of Kheda, but the applications moved only after District Collector Shri Bachani Saheb and DDO Shri Mehul Dave took charge. Many sluggish-moving files found wings after the duo came to the office.

Recently, the TDO allotted plots to 20 Vadi and Madari families in Kapadvanj’s Aantroli and Taiyabpur villages.

We are grateful to the Kheda administration. Hoping that the few files still waiting to see the light of the day also progress to completion.

VSSM’s Rajnibhai Raval has worked hard to ensure these families are linked with government welfare schemes. He liaised with the government authorities along with the community members. As a result, they have allotment letters to their plots. Hopefully, soon they will have their own houses too.

 બસ માથુ ઘાલવા મારુ પોતાનું ઘર થઈ જાય તો ઘૈઈક.. આવી એષણા એક વ્યક્તિની નહીં અનેક વ્યક્તિઓની. આપણે પણ મૂળ વતન છોડી રોજી રોટી અર્થે દેશ કે દુનિયા ફરીએ ભલે તે બધી જગ્યાએ શરૃઆત ભાડાના ઘરમાં કરીએ પણ ઝંખના તો પોતાના ઘરની, સરનામાંની તો હોય જ.

વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોને પણ આવું સરનામુ મળે તે માટે અમે કોશીશ કરીએ. ખેડામાં ઘણા ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે અમે અરજી કરેલી. પણ કલેક્ટર તરીકે બાચાણી સાહેબ અને ડીડીઓ તરીકે મેહુલ દવે આવ્યા પછી અરજીઓને પગ આવ્યા. ઘણા કામો જે નહોતા થતા તેમાં ઝડપ આવી.

તાજેતરમાં જ કપડવંજના આંતરોલી અને તૈયબપુરામાં રહેતા 20 વાદી અને મદારી પરિવારોને ટીડીઓ શ્રીએ રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યા. 

આભાર ખેડા વહીવટીતંત્રનો.. બસ હજુ કેટલુંક આપની કચેરીમાં પડતર છે જે ઉકેલાય તેની રાહ છે. એ પૂર્ણ કરવા પણ વિનંતી..

અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈ રાવળની આમાં ઘણી મહેનત. અધિકારીઓ સાથે એ સતત સંપર્કમાં રહ્યા અને વસાહતના લોકોએ એમને સહયોગ કર્યો જેના લીધે આ પરિવારો પ્લોટવાળા થયા હવે ઝટ એ ઘરવાળા પણ થશે. 

હાલ આ પરિવારો જે સ્થિતિમાં છે તે જોઈ શકાય છે અને હવે તેમને પોતાના પ્લોટની સનદ મળી તે પણ જોઈ શકાય.

 ‘Bahen, we want to settle down. We live on these government wastelands devoid of basic facilities like power and water while enduring the constant fear of vacating the place. Can’t you help us find a permanent space?” Manaanath Madari and Arvindbhai Vansfoda appealed the above with a great deal of sadness.

The settlement Arwindbhai and 47 other families live in is Pandit Dindayal Nagar; it even has a board with this name. However, it is not a legit settlement. We have requested the District Collector to do the needful and provide these families official residential plots and make them residents of an official Pandit Dindayal Nagar.

VSSM has helped these families file applications for allotment of plots; the authorities are also very positive; all we need is quick approval of these applications and actions to help these families live a life free of fear.

VSSM’s Vinodbhai continuously strives to ensure these families receive the benefits of various government welfare schemes, and he is the reason these families have reached us.

We are hopeful for the administration to respond quickly on the appeal because it is also our respected Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi’s dream to provide home to each homeless family!!

'બેન અમારે થાળે પડવું છે. આ સરકારી જગામાં છાપરાં નાખીને રહીએ છીએ પણ આ જંગલમાં ના મળે લાઈટ કે ના મળે પાણી. કોઈ ખાલી કરાવી દેશોનો ભય સતત લાગે તે અમને કાયમી જગ્યા મળે એવું કરી આપો ને?'

બાલાસિનોરમાં રહેતા મણાનાથ મદારી તેમજ અરવીંદભાઈ વાંસફોડાએ ભારે હૈયે આ કહ્યું.

અરવીંદભાઈ સાથે 47 પરિવારો જે જગ્યા પર રહે તે વસાહતનું નામ કોઈએ પંડિત દિનદયાળ નગર આપ્યું છે. આ નામ લખેલું બોર્ડ પણ ત્યાં છે. 

અમે કલેક્ટર શ્રીને આ પરિવારોને સત્વરે પ્લોટ આપી ખરા અર્થમાં પંડિત દિનદયાળ નામાભિધાન એમની નવી વસાહતનું કરવા વિનંતી કરીએ છીએ. 

રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મેળવવા દરખાસ્ત પણ કચેરીમાં કરી દીધી છે. અધિકારી હકારાત્મક છે બસ ઝટ નિર્ણય લઈને આ પરિવારોને પોતાનું ભય મુક્ત જીવી શકે તેવું સરનામુ આપે એમ ઈચ્છીએ.

અમારો વિનોદ આ પરિવારોને સરકારની કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાઓની મદદ મળે તે માટે ખુબ મથે એજ આ બધા પરિવારોને અમારા સુધી લઈ આવ્યો..

જોકે આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રી નરેન્દ્રભાઈનું પણ ઘરવિહોણાને ઘર આપવાનું સ્વપ્ન... એટલે તંત્ર ઝટ નિર્ણય લે તેવી આશા છે.

“Sister, I am Amarat Vadi, do you remember me? I stay in Kakar. You have to do one thing. If you have seen Janata Hospital then kindly call the doctor.”

“what happened?” I asked.

“My brother fell down and he had a hemorrhage. I took him to the hospital. The doctor operated and saved him. But it cost eighty thousand rupees. From where should I get this amount of money? I had a card issued by the government which Naranbhai (VSSM worker) gave me so they forgave ten thousand rupees. The doctor said that if you still need a discount then you need another card. My brother is doing well now. But I had to take him with me to get the new card to get his thumb prints there. But the doctor is not cooperating. Can you please tell the doctor that I will bring him back to the hospital once his thumb prints get done.”

On the one hand, I felt like laughing and on the other hand, I was sad.

Laughter on the thought that man will not run away from the hospital and sorrow for trouble he is facing to get the card. We definitely helped and I talked to our worker Naranbhai and asked him to make the rest of the arrangements.

"But when Naranbhai runs behind you to get the card, you don't take care and now you are digging a well when there is a fire.” I said that with a few reprimands. 

In reply Amratbhai said, "We are illiterate people, When you explain, we don’t understand but when a problem comes, we remember you”. What should I say to them? My anger disappeared in a moment.

We made representations to the government to link the snake charmers with the Snake Research Institute. They all agreed at the primary stage. A certain number of snake charmers, fulvadi, Lalvadi- madari will get licenses to catch snakes. Now it was time for a man to take care of the snakes in an institution. We said let's just involve the snake charmers in this work. We called a meeting with them and they said,

“Whatever you told is right. We will catch the snake and give it to them. But it is not possible for us to live in one place. For that we will do whatever you say.”

After explaining them with little anger, they agreed to involve the young in this work.

It is a little difficult to stabilize the people who keep on moving, moving and moving…  It is a very difficult task to settle people like Amratbhai in one place. We always have to explain to these families the small things like we explain to the child. 

'બેન હું અમરત વાદી.. ઓળખ્યો મન્? મુ કાકરમાં રહુ હુંં...તમાર એક કોમ કરવાનું હ્. જનતા હોસ્પીટલ જોઈ ક નઈ તો ફોન કરી દો ન ડોક્ટરન્'

'શું થયું?'

'મારો ભઈ ઊભો ઊભો પડી જ્યો ઈન હેમરેજ થઈ જ્યું. દવાખોને લઈ આયો. ડોક્ટેરે ઓપરેશન કરીન બચાઈ લીધો. પણ ખરચ થ્યો રૃપિયા એંસી હજાર. આટલા રૃપિયા ચોથી લાબ્બા?  મારી પાસે સરકારનું નારણભઈ(VSSMના કાર્યકર) એ કાઢી આલેલું કાર્ડ હતું તે ઈમોં દસ હજાર માફ થ્યા. વધારે માફી કરાબ્બી હોય તો બીજુ કેડ કઢાબ્બુ પડ એવું ડોક્ટરે કીધુ. મારા ભઈન હવ હારુ હ્. પણ નવું કેડ કઢાબ્બા ઈન હારે લઈ જવો પડ્. તો કણ ઈનો અંગુેઠો અલાબ્બો પડ એટલ.. પણ ડોક્ટર મોનતા નહીં...તમે ડોક્ટરન્ કોન ઈન ઘડીકવાર મારી હારે મેલે.. અંગુઠો અલઈ જાય પસી પાસો મુકી જઈશ....'

સાંભળીને એક બાજુ હસવુ આવ્યુ ને બીજી બાજુ દુઃખ પણ થયું.

હસવું માણસ દવાખાનામાંથી ભાગી જાય નહીં એ માટે ડોક્ટરની ગોઠવણ માટે ને દુઃખ મા કાર્ડ કઢાવવા માટેની મથામણને લઈને.. મદદ તો કરવાની જ હોય અમારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ સાથે વાત કરીને બાકીની વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવવા કહ્યું..

'પણ કાર્ડ કઢાવવા નારણભાઈ તમારી પાછળ ફરે ત્યારે તમે હાથમાં ન આવો ને હવે તરસ લાગે એટલે કૂવો ખોદવા બેસવાનું'

એવું થોડા ઠપકા સાથે મે કહ્યું તો જવાબમાં અમરતભાઈએ કહ્યું, 

'અમે રીયા અણભણ મોણસ.. તમે હજમાવો ઈમ અમે ના હમજીએ પણ ભીંહ પડે ને તાર તમે યાદ આવો...'

શું કહેવાનું ગમે એટલો ગુસ્સો કરીએ તોય એમને સાંભળીએ ને બધો ગુસ્સો હવામાં...

સાપના ખેલ કરનાર વાદી, મદારીઓને સર્પ સંશોધન સંસ્થાન સાથે જોડવા અમે સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરી. પ્રાથમિક તબક્કે હા થઈ ગઈ. સાપ પકડવાનું લાયસન્સ તો ચોક્કસ સંખ્યામાં ફૂલવાદી, લાલવાદી-મદારીને મળશે. હવે વાત હતી આ સંસ્થાનમાં સાપની દેખરેખ માટે માણસની. અમે કહ્યું આ કાર્યમાં સાપના ખેલ કરનારને જ જોડીએ. અમે એમની બેઠક બોલાવી તો કહે, 

'આ તમે બહુ હારુ કીધુ. હરપ પકડી પકડીને દઈ દેવાનું અમે કરી લઈશું. પણ બાપલા એક જગ્યાએ રેવાનું અમારાથી ના બને.. ઈમોં તમાર જેમન્ રાખવા હોય ઈમન રાખો...'

પ્રેમથી સમજાવ્યા પછી થોડું ગુસ્સે થયા ત્યારે જતા યુવાનોને આ કાર્યમાં જોડ઼વા એ સહમત થયા.. 

પગમાં જેમના ભમરી એમને સ્થિર કરવા થોડા મુશ્કેલ ને વળી વ્યવસ્થામાં ગોઠવવા તો અમરતભાઈની જેમ સૌથી વધારે અઘરા....

હંમેશાં આપણને લાગતી નાની નાની બાબતો આપણે જેમ બાળકને સમજાવીએ એમ આ પરિવારોને અમારે સમજાવવાની...

“I may not be a golden lamp, but it would be enough for me if I can lit up a house of a poor like a lamp of clay…”

Since my childhood I have been extremely fond of this poem. I am unaware of its origins,  but the message never fails to evoke a thought, “What if each individual lived like this lamp of clay. The world would be such a magical place to live…”

The District Collector of Surendranagar, Shri K. Rajesh lives these lines. He has committed himself and his team to resolve the issues of the nomadic communities of  Surendranagar.  Recently, he personally  visited the Madari settlement of Thangadh, understood their living conditions and announced that they shall receive Antyoday ration cards and residential plots. And like a concerned member of the family he also  expressed his resentment towards all who have been addicted to tobacco etc.

Compassion and sensitivity aren’t the qualities one can borrow. They lie  deep within us. We are glad that officers like Shri K. Rajesh have never allowed their sensitivity to be overtaken by power and position, that they have never walked away from their line of duty, they have always performed their duties with great humility and integrity.

It is often said that the king gets to know about the status of his subjects only when he sees it for himself, he lives within them in disguise. This was true for Shri Rajesh too, who on witnessing the living conditions of the madari families instructed his officers to issue Antyoday ration card to all these families.

We are delighted to have Shri Rajesh as the head of Surendranagar. The files that have piled on for ages are sure to be dusted off.

Our gratitude and appreciation for the officer Shir K. Rajesh. We wish other officers draw inspiration from individual like Shri Rakesh.

May we be instrumental in changing the lives of thousands of poor.

'છોને હું ના કનક દીવડી કોડિયું માટીનું થઈ

આ પંકિત્ નાનપણથી ખુબ ગમે.. કોણે લખી છે એ ખ્યાલ નહીં પણ આ પંક્તિમાં લખ્યા પ્રમાણેનું જીવન સૌ જીવે તો દુનિયા કેવી રૃડી થઈ જાય એવું સતત થયા કરે....

સુરેન્દ્રનગર કલેક્ટર શ્રી કે. રાજેશ પણ આ પંક્તિને ચરીતાર્થ કરતું કાર્ય કરી રહ્યા છે.. સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રહેતી વિચરતી વિમુક્ત જાતિના તમામ પ્રશ્નોના ઉકેલ માટે તેઓ કટીબદ્ધ છે.

થાનગઢમાં આવેલી મદારી વસાહતમાં તેઓ પોતે પહોંચ્યા અને સૌની સ્થિતિ જોઈને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ તેમજ સૌને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ આપવાની જાહેરાત કરી. 

સાથે વ્યસન કરનાર લોકોને મીઠી ટકોર પણ કરી.

સંવેદનશીલતા કોઈ પાસેથી ઉધાર નથી લઈ શકાતી. માણસમાં એ પડી જ છે. પણ ક્યાંક એના ઉપર ધૂળ ચડી ગઈ હોય છે.. પણ કે. રાજેશન જેવા અધિકારીઓએ ક્યારેય તેમની સંવેદનશીલતા પર ઘૂળ ચડવા નથી દીધી જેનો રાજીપો છે...

રાજા દેશાટન માટે નીકળે તો એને પ્રજાની સાચી સ્થિતિ સમજાય...આ વાત પણ કલેક્ટર શ્રીના કિસ્સામાં સાચી ઠરી...

અમે તો મદારી પરિવારોને રહેવા પ્લોટ આપવાની જ વાત કરેલી પણ કલેક્ટર શ્રીએ આ પરિવારોની હાલત જોઈને તમામને અંત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડ આપવા માટે પણ પૂરવઠા અધિકારીને સૂચના આપી..

કલેક્ટર શ્રી પ્રત્યે રાજીપો વ્યક્ત કરુ છું.

વર્ષોથી સુરેન્દ્નનગરમાં કચેરીમાં રવડતી ફાઈલો પર કામ થવાનું એ નક્કી છે.. 

શ્રી કે.રાજેશ પ્રત્યે આદરભાવ... અને આભાર...

હજારો વંચિતોના જીવનમાં ઊજાસ પાથરવામાં કુદરત નિમિત્ત બનાવે તેવી પ્રાર્થના.... 

અમારો કાર્યકર હર્ષદ સતત વિચરતી જાતિઓની આ વસાહતોમાં થાક્યા વગર લાગ્યો રહ્યો છે. તેની મહેનતનું આ પરિણામ છે...

 A recent event reaffirmed our belief in the government officers who have been appointed after clearing GPSC exams. Since last couple of years we have observed that these young officials are very  compassionate and sensitive towards the needs of the poor. “We have been given an opportunity to perform our duty…” they go above and beyond their line of duty to help the poor and marginalised.

There is a substantial number of Vadee Madaree families staying in Surendranagar’s Thangadh. The families do not have substantial documents to prove their identity. The district collector Shri. Rakesh is a very sensitive individual. He has wished to provide plots and housing for the homeless in his district, he has ensured his team works to turn  this wish into  reality. The team is visiting the settlements and filling up the forms. VSSM’s Harshad  always remains present during these visits to make sure no one is left out.

Additional Collector Shri. Ashish Miyatra is also completely invested into these efforts and works hard for the same. Every application for plot needs to be attached  with a caste certificate. But these communities do not have required  documents to acquire a caste certificate.  The duly filled forms were given to the authorised officials who refused to process because of insufficient documents. The officials also did not pay heed to Harshad’s explanation of the VSSM influenced  government resolution that simplifies the process of issuance of caste certificate for homeless nomadic communities. Both, Harshad and community members were a little disheartened by the official’s approach. When Additional Collector Shri. Ashishbhai got a word about this he said, “ Don’t worry, we shall find a way out.” He studied the resolution  which has a mention of panchnama that can be issued after an official visits  the place of residence of the applicant. Shri Ashish instructed his officials follow that instruction. All the applicants will be receiving their caste certificates in two days.  

I happen to meet Ashishbhai during my recent Than visit. “We salute you and your sensitivity. How we wish all officials began working like you do. So much of our load would ease out!!” I told him.

“Please, don’t thank us . This is our duty. This work brings me great satisfaction, I am happy to be instrumental in this entire process.”

The team at the helm of Surendranagar administration, Collector Shri K. Rakesh, Shri Ashish Miyatra, Shri Vijaybhai Patni is very strong. The long pending files of Surendranagar will be delighted to see light of the day under this team. The will be happy to the fact that the  dust accumulated over the years over them will at last be dusted.

છેલ્લા કેટલાક વર્ષોમાં GPSC પાસ કરી સરકારમાં કાર્યરત થયેલા યુવા અધિકારીઓ બહુ આશાસ્પદ જણાય છે. ‘કુદરતે તક આપી છે’ એવું કહી ક્યાંક નિયમથી ઉપર ઉઠીને મદદ કરનાર અધિકારીઓને પણ મળવાનું થાય છે.

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના થાનગઢમાં મદારી પરિવારો વસે. આ પરિવારો પાસે તેમની ઓળખ સાબિત કરવાના ઝાઝા પૂરાવા નહીં. કલેક્ટર શ્રી કે રાજેશ બહુ સંવદેનશીલ. તેમની ઈચ્છા સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રહેતા વિચરતી જાતિના તમામ ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને ઘર આપવાની અને તે માટે તેઓએ પોતાની ટીમને કટીબદ્ધ કરી. અધિકારીઓ વસાહતો ખૂંદી રહ્યા છે અને ફોર્મ ભરી રહ્યા છે. 

આ કાર્યમાં અમારો હર્ષદ તો સતત એમની સાથે..

મદારી વસાહતને પ્લોટ આપવા પ્રાંત કલેક્ટર શ્રી આશીષ મિયાત્રા પણ કલેક્ટર જેવા જ ઉત્સાહથી મથે. પ્લોટ મેળવવાની અરજી સાથે જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર જોડવા પડે. પણ એ માટેના પૂરાવા આ લોકો પાસે બહુ નહીં. ફોર્મ ભરીને તાલુકામાં બેસતા જવાબદાર અધિકારીને આપ્યા પણ એમણે ઠોસ પૂરાવા નથી માટે આપી નહીં શકાય તેમ કહ્યું.

હર્ષદે તેમને વિચરતી જાતિઓની સ્થિતિ સમજી તેમને સરળતાથી જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર મળે તે માટે VSSMના પ્રયત્નથી થયેલો વર્ષ 2017નો ઠરાવ બતાવ્યો. જેમાં સ્થળ તપાસ કરીને જાતિપ્રમાણપત્ર આપી શકાય તેવો ઉલ્લેખ હોવાનું બતાવ્યું. પણ આ અધિકારીએ બહુ દાદ આપી નહીં.

હર્ષદ અને વસાહતના લોકો થોડા નિરાશ થયા. ત્યાં પ્રાંત કલેક્ટર શ્રી આશીષભાઈને આ ખ્યાલ આવ્યો એમણે કહ્યું,

‘ચિંતા ના કરો આપણે રસ્તો કરીશું’ તેમણે ઠરાવનો અભ્યાસ કર્યો અને સ્થળ તપાસ કરીને પંચનામુ કરીને જાતિપ્રમાણપત્ર આપી શકાયનું વાંચ્યું. એમણે એ પ્રમાણે કર્યુ. બે દિવસમાં તમામ પરિવારોને જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર મળી જશે.

થાન જવાનું થયું ત્યારે આશીષભાઈ પણ વસાહતમાં આવ્યા. મે એમને કહ્યું, ‘તમને અને તમારી સંવેદનાને સેલ્યુટ કરીએ છીએ. આવી રીતે સૌ અધિકારી કામ કરતા થઈ જાય તો અમારા જેવાનો ભાર હળવો થઈ જાય’

એમણે કહ્યું, ‘એમાં આભાર હોય જ નહીં મારી ફરજ છે અને આ કામથી ખૂબ સંતોષ મળે છે. હું નિમિત્ત બનું એનો રાજીપો છે’

કલેક્ટર શ્રી કે.રાજેશ અને તેમની સાથે આશીષભાઈ મિયાત્રા, વિજયભાઈ પટણી જેવા અધિકારીઓની મજબૂત ટીમ છે. વર્ષોથી વિચરતી જાતિઓના પેન્ડીંગ કામોની ફાઈલો સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લામાં પડી છે. આ બધી જ ફાઈલો પર પરિણામલક્ષી મહોર મરાવવાની છે.. ફાઈલોનેય રાજીપો થશે...આખરે કોઈક તો આવ્યા જેમણે એના પરની ધૂળ ઊડાળી..

આભાર આપ સૌ સંવેનશીલ અધિકારીઓનો.. તમારા કારણે આ દુનિયા ઊજળી છે....

જે પરિવારોને રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા અને પછી ઘર મળવાના છે તેને ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે. સાથે પ્રાંત કલેક્ટર શ્રી આશીષભાઈ સાથે વસાહતમાં થયેલી વાતનો ફોટો પણ...

Why are we against our own kind??

“Water…. There is no water for drinking or our usage. We have been staying Banaskantha’s Thur village of Vadgaum block for years, but no one is allotting us  plots to build a house.”

“We have made numerous requests, have even presented our case to the Collector, but don’t know when will we find solution to it??The kids are grown up now. They refuse to go to school without proper bath. Our traditional occupation of snake charming is illegal now. The elders beg while the youngsters earn living by engaging in manual labour. This requires us to be out of the Thur for months. The generation now understands the importance of education hence, even if we go out our children stay back so that they can continue going to school. We too wish to settle down,  need a proper roof to cover our heads. Every time the harsh winds blow they sweep our roofs along with it. We are tired of repairing them every time. Just one request to our government, give us a plot we need nothing else.”

This was Thur’s Babunath Madari and Aminaben Madari narrating their plight.

We will once again request the government to help these homeless and address-less families get a life.

This frustration that Babunath narrates comes with treatment they have suffered for decades. The villages are against their settling in the village, those staying in huge landed houses refuse to offer them water… such ill treatment to  patient and tolerant folks.

It is us who needs to rethink our approach towards our own kind.

આપણા જ લોકો આપણને કેમ સહન નથી થતા....

'પીવા અને વાપરવાનું પાણી ક્યાંય જડતું નથી. વર્ષોથી બનાસકાંઠાના વડગામ તાલુકાના થુરગામમાં રહીએ પણ ઘર બાંધવા પોતાની જગ્યા કોઈ ફાળવતું નથી.

કલેક્ટર શ્રીને રજૂઆત કરી છે પણ આ બધુ ક્યારે મળશે એની ખબર નથી.

છોકરાં મોટા થયા હવે નાહ્યા વગર નિશાળે જતા નથી. 

સાપના ખેલ હવે ચાલતા નથી. મોટીયાર ભીખ માંગીને અને બાકીના મજૂરી કરીને ગુજારો કરે અને એ માટે થૂર બારા ઘણો વખત રહે. પણ છોકરાં ભણાવવાની સમજણ આવી ગઈ છે. બારા જઈએ તોય છોકરાંને મૂકીને જઈએ જેથી એ લોકો ભણી શકે.

અમારે પણ સ્થાયી રહેતા અન્યોની જેમ જીંદગી જીવવી છે પણ માથુ ઢાંકવા પોતાની જગ્યા નથી મળતી.

ચોમાસામાં અને ઉનાળામાં વાયરો ખુબ વાય એમાં અમારા છાપરાં કેટલીયે ફેરા તુટી જાય. હવે થાક્યા છીએ.

સરકારને એક જ વિનતી રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા આપે બાકી કશું જોતું નથી.'

થુરમાં વર્ષોથી રહેતા બાબુનાથ મદારી અને અમીનાબહેને અમે થુર ગયા ત્યારે પોતાની કથની કહી સંભળાવી.

સરનામાં વગરના આ માણસોને પોતાનું સરનામું મળે એ માટે સરકારમાં તો રજૂઆત કરીશું.

ક્યાંક ગામનો આવા પરિવારોના વસવાટને લઈને વિરોધ જોવું છું તો ક્યાંક બાજુમાં જ રહેતા બંગલા વાળા પીવાનું પાણી ના આપે આ બધુ જોવું ત્યારે દુઃખી થવાય.. અને પ્રશ્ન પણ થાય આપણે કેવી સહિષ્ણુ પ્રજા.. આપણા જ લોકો આપણને સહન નથી થતા...

What a lie and what false image people who do not know carry about Vadee community. The black the Vadee women wear might scare the ignorant but, the Vadee have enough children of their own to feed lest they abduct children of others. Yes, people who abduct children do exist in our society but they aren’t these Vadee!!

Recently, I had an opportunity to interact with the children of a school in Valsad. The teachers there asked this question, “Don’t Vadee abduct children?”

As a matter of fact, when I meet these women dressed in black, they shower me with tons of blessings, these women who beg as means to earn living give me the right to pick up a Rs. 5 coin from their begging plate.

They are humans to just like you and me, try to think empathetically and you wouldn’t be afraid of them!

Look at how these black dressed women flanked me when I visited their Juna Kakar settlement, they even blessed me … am so glad I am one of them!!

‘વાદીની બાઈયું છોકરાં ઉપાડી જાય. કેવા કાળા કપડાં પહેરે. એમને જાદુ ટોણા આવડે ને છોકરાં ઉપાડીને લઈ જાય પછી એમની પાસે ભીખ મંગાવે...’

લો બોલો કેવી વાહીયાત વાતો #વાદી અને #મદારી સમાજને જરાય ના જાણનારા કરે. ડર પેલા અંધારાના કલરનો (#કાળા કપડાં)નો લાગે.... બિચારા વાદીના ઘેર એના છોકરાં ઓછા છે તે આપણા ઉપાડીને લઈ જાય... બાળકોને ઉપાડીને લઈ જનારાય સમાજમાં પડ્યા છે પણ એ અમારા વાદી નહીં હો...

વલસાડ પાસેની એક નિશાળમાં બાળકો સાથે વાત કરવાનો મોકો મળ્યોને શિક્ષકોએ વાદી તો આપણા બાળકોને ઉપાડી ના જાય? તેવો ભય દર્શાવીને પ્રશ્ન પુછેલો...

મને તો આ કાળા #કપડાં પહેરેલી બહેનો મળે ત્યારે ઢગલો #આશિર્વાદ આપે ને ભીખ માંગનાર આ બહેનો પ્રેમથી એમની થાળીમાંથી પાંચ રૃપિયા ઉપાડી લેવાનો અધિકારેય આપે...

પોતાના માની વાત કરજો... પછી એમનાથી ડર નહીં લાગે... એય માણસ છે મારા તમારા જેવા ને સૌથી અગત્યનું પ્રમાળ પણ....

જુઓને કાકારની વાદી વસાહતમાં કાળા કપડાંવાળા આ બહેનો મને ઘેરી વળ્યા ને મારા દુઃખણા પણ લીધા... આનંદ આનંદ ને તેમનામાંના એક હોવાનું ગૌરવ

Remember the image that is often associated with India, the country of snake charmers. Well, Vadee are the snake charmers of bygone era, with turban on the head and a cotton jholi hanging on the shoulder they charm us with their tricks. The Vadee today are required to beg as a means to earn living. They are ok with the Wildlife Protection Act and the resultant ban on capturing snakes, what hurts them is the fact that the policy makers overlooked the need to rehabilitate them. The Vadee has a strong presence in Gujarat, with an estimated population of more than 2 lacs.

“Look at us, this is just us from one settlement. Imagine all of us coming together on 14th October.

We will be coming to Palanpur. Not for anyone else but, we will be there for ourselves and our children. We have been asking for a Snake Park very similar to Chennai’s Erula Snake Park. It is an initiative designed to rehabilitate the snake-charmers of Tamil Nadu. We do not like to beg hence, want some kind of gainful employment.”

’વાદી’

માથે પાઘડી, ખભે ઝોળી ને હાથમાં મોરલી. ઝોળીમાંથી અવનવા દાગીના કાઢે ને આપણને બતાવે. સાપના ખેલ કરનાર આ વાદી આજે ભીખારી બન્યા. સાપ લઈ લીધા ઈનો વાંધો નહીં પણ બીજો વિકલ્પેય ના આપ્યો?

‘અમે એકલ દોકલ નથી બે લાખ કરતાં વધુ ને એય ફક્ત ગુજરાતમાં લો બોલો?

સાપ લઈ લીધા તે અમારે ક્યાં બાપીકી જાગીર હતી? શું ખાવુંને ખવરાવું ઈનીએ અમે જેને માઈ બાપ માનતા ઈમને ચિંતા ના કરી!

અમે એકલ દોકલ નથી લો જોઈ લો. એક જ વસાહતના અમે આટલાં જો બધા ભેગા થાશું તો?

પણ હવે થાશું. કોઈના માટે નહીં અમારાં માટે ભેગા થાશું...

ને તમીલનાડુમાં વાદી જેવી ઈરુલા જાતિને સરકારે જેમ થાળે પાડી એમ અમનેય પાડોની અમારી માંગ કહીશું ...’
