An old carpenter used to make furniture for every sample house of a builder — and he did it wholeheartedly.

After working for many years, he decided to retire and informed the builder that he wanted to leave the job. The builder requested him, “Just complete the furniture for one last house before you retire.”

Reluctantly, the carpenter agreed. He completed the furniture work, but for the first time in his life, he compromised on quality and effort. Once the work was finished, he called the builder, handed over the house, and asked for permission to leave.

The builder stopped him, placed a key in his hand, and said, “You worked with complete honesty and dedication for so many years. As a reward for your sincerity, this house is my gift to you.”

The carpenter did not know whether to feel happy or regretful. The house was beautiful, but the furniture inside it was the one piece of work in his life where he had compromised. Yet, he could not even confess this truth to the builder.

This story carries a powerful message.

Even in water conservation projects, many responsible people fail to carry out their duties with sincerity. The government allocates funds for deepening ponds and restoring water bodies, but due to greed and the desire for personal gain, proper work is often not done. As a result, the quality suffers, and entire villages — along with future generations — bear the loss.

If every rupee spent by the government on water conservation were used honestly and responsibly, the problem of water scarcity could be solved to a great extent. But somewhere, greed weakens commitment…

At VSSM, we carry out water conservation work with the support of dedicated well-wishers. So far, we have restored and deepened 380 “Jal Mandirs” (water reservoirs).

One such pond was restored in Thuravas village of Sabarkantha through the joint efforts of the village, VSSM, and respected Binaben Kanani. She chose to dedicate the restoration of the Thuravas pond on the birthday of her husband, respected Harish Uncle. Very few people in the world possess the wisdom to celebrate by giving such meaningful gifts. We are deeply grateful to Binaben Aunty. Every year, she contributes towards the creation and restoration of Jal Mandirs. We bow to her noble sentiments.

Thuravas had been facing severe water scarcity. Once the pond was deepened, water from the Harnav Dam was also directed into it during non-monsoon months. As a result, farmers’ wells were recharged, and farmers became able to cultivate crops in all three seasons.

Beyond farming, countless living creatures also benefited — and that became the true profit of this work.

The continuous support of the village made this effort successful. Special appreciation goes to our workers Tohidbhai and Maheshbhai for their tireless dedication.

એક સુથાર એક બીલ્ડરના દરેક સેમ્પલ હાઉસનું ફર્નીચર બનાવે એ પણ પુરા દીલથી.

વર્ષો કામ કર્યા પછી એણે નિવૃતી લેવાનું નક્કી કર્યું ને માલીકને છુટા કરવા કહ્યું. બીલ્ડરે કહ્યું એક ઘરનું ફર્નીચર બનાવી દો પછી નિવૃત થાવ.

સુથારે કમને હા પાડી. એણે ફર્નીચર બનાવી દીધું. પણ જિંદગીમાં પહેલીવાર એણે ફર્નીચર બનાવવામાં વેઠ વાળી. ફર્નીચર તૈયાર થયા પછી એણે માલીકને બોલાવીને ઘર તૈયાર છે એમ કહી જવાની રજા માંગી.  

બિલ્ડરે એને રોકી એના હાથમાં ચાવી મુકી. સુથારે શાની ચાવી છે એમ પુછ્યું.

બિલ્ડરે કહ્યું, તે વર્ષો મારી સાથે પુરી નિષ્ઠાથી કામ કર્યું એ નિષ્ઠાના વળતર રૃપે આ ઘર તને ભેટમાં..

સુથારને હરખાવું કે દુઃખ કરવું એ સમજાયું નહીં. ઘર સરસ હતું પણ ફર્નીચરમાં એણે જિંદગીમાં પહેલીવાર વેઠ વાળી. એ બિલ્ડરને વેઠ વાળ્યાનો ખુલાસો પણ ન કરી શક્યો.

વાર્તા બહુ સૂચક છે. જળસંચયના કાર્યોમાં પણ ઘણી વખત જવાબદાર વ્યક્તિ પોતાની ફરજ નિષ્ઠાથી બજાવતા નથી. સરકાર તળાવો ઊંડા કરવા માટે નાણાં ફાળવે પણ અણહકનું મેળવી લેવાની લાલચમાં એ યોગ્ય કામ ન કરે. આમાં ગુણવત્તાવાળુ કામ ન થાય. પરિણામે આવનારી પેઢીથી લઈને આખા ગામને નુકશાન થાય.

સરકાર જળસંચય પાછળ જેટલા પૈસા ખર્ચે એ બધા જો પૂરી નિષ્ઠાથી ખર્ચાય  તો પાણીની તંગીનો પ્રશ્ન ઘણા ખરા અંશે હલ થઈ જાય પણ પેલી લાલચ તો ક્યાંક વેઠના લીધે...

ખેર અમે જળસંચયના કાર્યો VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત કરીએ. 380 જલમંદિરો અમે અત્યાર સુધી ઊંડા કર્યા. 

સાબરકાંઠાના થૂરાવાસ ગામનું તળાવ અમે ગામ, VSSM અને આદરણીય બીનાબહેન કાનાણી કે, જેમણે એમના ઘરવાળા આદરણીય હરીશ અંકલના જન્મદિવસ નિમિત્તે થૂરાવાસનું તળાવ ગળાવ્યું. આવી ભેટ આપવાની સમજણ દુનિયામાં ઝાઝા લોકો પાસે નથી. આદરણીય બીના આંટીના અમે આભારી છીએ. એ દર વર્ષે જલમંદિર નિર્માણ માટે મદદ કરે. એમની લાગણીને પ્રણામ.

થૂરાવાસમાં પાણીની સખત તકલીફ હતી તળાવ ઊંડુ થયું. હરણાવ ડેમનું પાણી પણ ચોમાસા સિવાય એમાં નાખવામાં આવ્યું. એટલે ખેડૂતોના કૂવા રીચાર્જ થઈ ગયા. ખેડૂતો ત્રણે સીઝન ખેતીની લેતા થઈ ગયા.

આ સિવાય જીવસૃષ્ટિને મદદ થઈ તે નફાની... આ કાર્યમાં ગામનો સહયોગ સતત રહ્યો. અમારા કાર્યકર તોહીદભાઈને મહેશ બંનેની ભારે જેહમત..

Gujarat Government penalised ?

For inappropriate arrangement of underground.water management systems, the Central Ground Water Authority has levied a penalty of Rs 12.32 crores on Gujarat Government. Was it because the government did not follow the rules in a disciplined manner ? It can also mean that Gujarat Government is solely responsible for the underground water mismanagement. No doubt it is the duty of the government to lay down strict rules for the usage of underground water. At the same time what are the duties of people at large?

Instead of greed for 3 harvests , farmers will have to settle for 2 harvests.

Government will have to take greater care in equitable distribution & supply of water.

The dams have been built on Narmada &  Gharoi reservoirs. Further a network of canals & pipelines have been created to store water in small lakes. However, in this arrangement we are still lacking as the water is not always available in these small lakes.

In the report by Ground Water Resources India , a central government agency, it is mentioned that Banaskantha, Patan & Mehsana Districts have made indiscriminate use of underground water. The situation has turned precarious. The Government is worried. Through various schemes like "Sujalam & Sufalam" it is attempting to raise the levels of underground water. It is important to have a social audit done to ensure that rules are followed properly. The water as a resource is so valuable that we cannot afford to waste a single drop of water.

Alongwith the government, people also have to be worried. Government will not be able to do everything. We are very much aware of our rights. We force the government to enforce our rights but when it comes to our duties we remain ignorant. It is important that we are conscious of our duties. This is not an issue for debate. It is an issue which is most closely connected to our existence & well being. When we go to a place where there is no water, we realise its importance. To retain the prosperity that we got because of borewells, we will have to constantly remind ourselves of our role irrespective of whether the government thinks about it or not. After reading the news of the Government being penalised, we at VSSM have become more resolved of our role in water management. What will you resolve ??

ભૂગર્ભજળના અયોગ્ય વ્યવસ્થાપનને લઈને સેન્ટ્રલ ગ્રાઉન્ડ વોટર ઓથોરેટીએ ગુજરાત સરકારેને 12.32 કરોડનો દંડ ફટકાર્યો. સરકાર નિતીમાં કડકાઈ ન દાખવી શકી એટલે આ દંડ?સવાલ આ પરિસ્થિતિ માટે ફક્ત સરકાર જ જવાબદાર એવો પણ થાય.

સરકારની ફરજ ભૂગર્ભજળને અમાપ રીતે ઉલેચવાની સામે કડક નિતીનિયમો બનાવવાની તો છે જ પણ સાથે સાથે પ્રજા તરીકે આપણી ફરજ શું? 

ક્યાંક ત્રણ પાકની લાલસાને મુકીને બે પાક લેવા પર આવવાનું આપણે કરવું પડશે. જ્યારે સરકાર પણ પાણીની યોગ્ય વહેંચણી કરવા ઘણી કોશીશ કરે છતાં ક્યાંક આ કોશીશમાં હજુ વધારો કરવાની પણ જરૃર.

નર્મદા, ધરોઈ વગેરે જળાશયો પર ડેમ બંધાયા અને તેમાંથી કેનાલો, પાઈપોનું જાળુ વિકસાવ્યું એ જાળામાંથી તળાવો, નાના જળાશયોમાં પાણી ભરાય તેવી વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવી પણ સતત પાણી રહે તેવી નક્કર ગોઠવણીમાં આપણે હજુ ક્યાંક ઊણા..

કેન્દ્ર સરકારના ડાયનેમીક ગ્રાઉન્ડ વોટર રિસોર્સ ઈન્ડિયાના રીપોર્ટ મુજબ 2022માં બનાસકાંઠા, પાટણ અને મહેસાણા જિલ્લામાં સૌથી વધુ પાણી ઉલેચાયા.. સ્થિતિ વણસી છે. સરકાર ચિંતીત છે એટલે એ સુજલામ સુફલામ ને અન્ય કેટલીયે યોજનાઓ થકી ભૂગર્ભજળને ઉપર લાવવા મથે. પણ ક્યાંક સરકારી યોજનાઓથી થયેલા જળસંચયના કાર્યોનું સોસીયલ ઓડીટ થાય તે પણ જરૃરી. મૂળ કાર્યોની ગુણવત્તા સુધારવા માટે.. કારણ પાણીનું કાર્ય એવું છે કે એના માટે એક રૃપિયો ખોટો થાય એ આપણને કોઈને પોષાય એવું નથી. વળી સરકારની સાથે સાથે પ્રજા તરીકે આપણે પણ ચિંતા કરવા જેવું છે. બધુ જ સરકાર નહીં કરી શકે. પણ આપણે હકો બધા યાદ રાખીશું આપણી ફરજ યાદ રાખવાનું આપણે નથી કરતા. આ ફરજ યાદ રાખવી હવે જરૃરી છે.. 

આ વાદ વિવાદનો મુદ્દો નથી પણ જીવન સાથે સંકળાયેલો સૌથી મહત્વનો મુદ્દો છે. પાણી વગરના પ્રદેશમાં જઈશું તો ત્યાંની હાડમારી આપણને સમજાશે. જે સમૃદ્ધી બોરવેલના કારણે આવી એ સમુદ્ધીને ટકાવવા પાણી વિશે સરકાર વિચારે કે ન વિચારે આપણે- સમાજે વિચારવાનું કરવું પડશે...

Raindrops get a sense of freedom from the clouds as they fall as rain on mother earth. Who doesn't like freedom ? Their freedom is temporary as we catch & confine them in our lakes.  We catch it for our benefit. It sounds a bit philosophical but it's nice.

We built lakes for our benefit. However, in this technological age the importance of lakes have reduced. In old days lakes/ponds were the heart of the village. All activities like bathing, washing clothes & vessels, water for animals etc used to take place at the lakes.

Then borewell came & water through pipes came into the tap of everyone's homes. Importance of lakes/ponds in the lives of people considerably reduced.

However to keep the water level from receding down lakes are important.

But we forgot the importance of lakes/ponds and today the water levels have fallen from 800feet to 12000feet.

We at VSSM have been actively enagaged in Banaskantha since 2016 to dredge, desilt lakes. Now in 2023 we have expanded our horizons to Patan, Mehsana & Sabarkantha areas. Lot of well wishers have been helping us in this activity but Shri Pratulbhai of. Shri K R Shroff Foundation have single handedly contributed towards the cost of 24 lakes. In fact we take pride in saying that we associated with Shri Pratulbhai in this task.

We dredged/desilted one lake with the help of villagers at Bodal in Banaskantha . Soon the rains arrived & in a very short time the lake got filled with water. Respected Ulhasbhai Paymaster contributed in desilting this lake. We are very much thankful to him for his very timely help.

It is our target to complete such 50 lakes in the year 2024. The society will help us in this noble cause.

વાદળ બંધન,

વરસાદ મુક્તિ..

ટીપાઓ વરસાદ થકી મુક્તિનો અનુભવ કરે.

મુક્તિ કોને ન ગમે? હરેક વ્યક્તિ મુક્તિ ઈચ્છે... છતાં બંધનો સાથે જીવવાનું..

ટીપાઓ વરસાદ રૃપે મુક્ત થયા પછી આપણે એને તળાવરૃપી બંધનમાં બાંધીએ.. આપણી સુખાકારી માટે આ કરીએ. વાત જરા ફીલોસોફીકલ લાગે.. પણ છે મજાની...

તળાવો બાંધવાનું માણસોએ પોતાની સુખાકારી માટે જ કર્યું.. ટેકનોલોજીના આ યુગમાં તળાવોનું મહત્વ ઘટ્યું. બાકી તળાવ ગામોનું હૃદય હોતા. નાહવાનું, કપડાં, વાસણ ધોવાનું, ઢોરને પાણી પીવાનું બધુંયે ત્યાં થતું. 

પછી બોરવેલ આવ્યા અને ઘરે ઘરે નળ પણ.. એટલે તળાવોનું અન્ય કામો માટેનું મહત્વ ઘટ્યું. પણ ભૂગર્ભજળની સપાટીને એકબંધ રાખવા એનું મહત્વ પાછુ એટલુ ને એટલું જ..

પણ આપણે તળાવની આ ભૂમિકા ભૂલ્યા. એટલે જ પાણીના તળ આજે 800 થી લઈને 12000 ફુટ સુધી પહોંચ્યા છે. 

અમે ભૂગર્ભજળ સાબદા થાય તે માટે તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું કરીયે. 2016 થી આ કાર્ય બનાસકાંઠાથી શરૃ કર્યું.  2023માં અમે પાટણ, મહેસાણા અને સાબરકાંઠામાં પણ આ કાર્ય વિસ્તાર્યું. ઘણા બધા સ્વજનોએ મદદ કરી પણ ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનના આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈએ એકલાએ 24 તળાવ કરવામાં સહયોગ કર્યો. આમ તો અમે સાથે રહીને આ તળાવો ગાળ્યા એમ કહેવું વધારે ઉચીત.

બનાસકાંઠાના બોડાલનું આ તળાવ. ગામલોકોની ભાગીદારીથી અમે ગાળ્યું ને મેઘરાજાની મહેર થકી એ સરસ ભરાયું. 

આદરણીય ઉલ્હાસભાઈ પે માસ્ટરે બોડાલનું તળાવ ગળાવવા માટે મદદ કરી. એ માટે તેમનો ઘણો ઘણો આભાર...

બસ આવતી સીઝન એટલે 2024માં 50 તળાવો ગાળવાનો લક્ષાંક છે. સમાજ સહયોગ કરશે તેવી આશા...

It has been a few years since we began water conservation efforts in Banaskantha. As of today, we have deepened 163 lakes. It is not just  Banaskantha that requires such interventions; with the depleted water tables, other districts also need intensive water conservation efforts. However, we have our limitations; hence, despite communities calling us to their regions, we cannot reach them.

Amidst all the requests and denials, we had the opportunity to meet respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff, who invited us to initiate water harvesting and conservation efforts in Sabarkatha’s Poshina.

Shri Pratulbhai is the founder of Dr K. R. Shroff Foundation, an organisation working extensively in education. Poshina is the region where the organisation has been actively involved; we visit and survey the area to understand the ground realities to help us plan better interventions. Eventually, a collective visit to the region also happened.

Poshina is a prominent tribal town towards the east of Gujarat. Although the region receives good rains during the monsoon, sourcing even drinking water becomes challenging during summers. The villagers own agricultural land, but the water insufficiency means there is no means to earn a living during summers when the region becomes dry.

As we transverse through 5 villages, each village shared their water woes and the need to find a solution so that they do not have to escape to the cities. The population here is forced to migrate to urban areas in search of living during the summer months. If there is sufficient water, they can engage in dairy farming and earn a decent living.

We visited Aambamahuda, Tuta-bungalow, Tadhivedhi, Kajawas and Mathasara to have meetings with the village community. We also surveyed the areas capable of holding water. 

We have decided to launch the water conservation efforts to deepen lakes, wells and khet talavdi at Aambamahuda village. We also plan to rope in government support in these efforts.

Thank you, Pratulbhai, for inviting and supporting such efforts for a new region. I am hopeful that our collective efforts will have a more significant impact!!

બનાસકાંઠામાં જળસંચયના કાર્યો અમે ઘણા વખતથી કરીએ 163 તળાવો અમે અત્યાર સુધી ઊંડા કર્યા. બસ આ કાર્યો જોઈને અન્ય જિલ્લામાં વસતા ને પાણીના મહત્વને સમજતા લોકો અમારા વિસ્તારમાં પણ જળસંચયનું કાર્ય કરોનું કહે પણ અમારી મર્યાદાના લીધે એ થતું નહોતું.

આવામાં એક દિવસ અચાનક આદરણીય શ્રી પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફને મળવાનું થયું ને એમણે સાબરકાઠાના પોશીના વિસ્તારમાં જળસંચયના કાર્યો કરવા માટે આમંત્રણ આપ્યું. 

પ્રતુલભાઈ ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનના સ્થાપક. શિક્ષણ ક્ષેત્રે એમની સંસ્થા ખુબ કાર્ય કરે. પોશીના વિસ્તારમાં પણ એમનું ઘણું કાર્ય. પોશીના વિસ્તારને સમજી ત્યાં શું કરવું તે નક્કી કરીશુંનું  અમે કહ્યું ને પછી પોશીના એમની ને અમારી ટીમ સાથે જવાનું થયું. 

આદિવાસી વિસ્તાર વરસાદ સારો પડે. લોકો પાસે ખેતીલાયક જમીનો પણ ખરી પણ ચોમાસા અને શિયાળામાં પાણી મળે જ્યારે ઉનાળામાં આખો વિસ્તાર સુક્કો ભઠ્ઠ. પીવાનું પાણી મેળવવાય સાંસા.

અમે લગભગ પાંચ ગામો ફર્યા ને દરેક ગામના લોકોએ પાણીની સમસ્યાનું સમાધાન થાય તો અમારે શહેરમાં નાહવું ન પડે એવું કહ્યું. 

શહેરમાં નાહવાનું રોજગાર અર્થે થાય. પણ પાણીની યોગ્ય વ્યવસ્થા થાય તો પશુપાલન પણ સારો વિક્લપ બની શકે ને લોકોને પોતાનું વહાલું વતન છોડવું ન પડે એવું પ્રાથમિક દૃષ્ટિએ જણાયું.

અમે આંબામહુડા, ટુટા-બંગ્લો, ટાઢીવેડી,કાજાવાસ, મથાસરા ગામમાં ગ્રામજનો સાથે બેઠક કરી ને ગામમાં પાણીનો સંગ્રહ ક્યાં થઈ શકે તે વિસ્તાર જોયો.

મુલાકાત લીધેલા બધા ગામોમાંથી આંબામહુડામાં તળાવ ઊંડા કરવાથી લઈને, કૂવા ગાળવાનું, ખેતતલાવડી બનાવવાનું કાર્ય હાથ પર લેશું.

આ સિવાય તળાવના કાર્યો સઘન થાય એ માટે સરકારને પણ સાથે જોડીશું. 

આભાર પ્રતુલભાઈ એક નવા વિસ્તારમાં કાર્ય કરવા કહેણ મોકલવા. સાથે રહી સરસ કરીશું એ નક્કી...

“This is rainwater,” Kataav sarpanch Maheshbhai clarified as we had assumed that the water in its village lake was from Narmada. It was the month of June and we weren’t expecting the lake holding water from the previous monsoon.

Mahesbhai added, “after the lake was de-silted and deepened it could hold the rainwater, the farmers around the lake were able to sink borewell and draw water from 100 feet. Kavaat’s earth belly was empty up till 500-600 feet while potable water was available at 1150 feet. VSSM’s efforts to deepen the lakes have recharged the groundwater tables to 100 feet.

“This lake has given water to our cattle all through the year,” shared a maldhari Kaka who had brought his cattle to the lake.

It did bring me great joy.

VSSM has been instrumental in the deepening of these lakes because of the financial support it has received from its well-wishing donors all of who have been blessed a hundred times.

 જૂન મહિનામાં વરસાદી પાણીથી ભરાયેલું કટાવનું તળાવ અમે જોયું. પ્રથમ થયું નર્મદાના પાણીથી ભરાયેલું હશે પણ ગામના સરપંચ મહેશભાઈએ ચોખવટ કરી કે ભરાયેલું પાણી વરસાદી.

ગામના સરપંચે કહ્યું, આ તળાવ ગળાયું ને એમાં પાણી ભરાવાના લીધે તળાવ આસપાસના ખેડૂતો સો ફૂટના બોર કરીને પાણી મેળવવા લાગ્યા..

કટાવમાં પાણીનું ઉપલુ તળ 500 -600 ફૂટનું ખાલી હતું. પીવાનું પાણી એ લોકો 1150 ફૂટના બોર કરીને મેળવે આવામાં તળાવ ગળાવવાથી 100 ફૂટના તળ રીચાર્જ થયા.

અમે તળાવમાં ગયા તો એક કાકા પોતાની ભેંસોને તળાવમાં પાણી પીવડાવવા લાવેલા. કાકાએ કહ્યું, 'અમારા જેવા માલધારીઓના માલ ઢોરને પણ આ તળાવે બારે મહિના પાણી આપ્યું'

સાંભળીને મન હરખાયું.

VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરે. આપણા ધર્મ શાસ્ત્રોમાં તળાવ ગળાવનારને સો યજ્ઞોનું પુણ્ય મળે એવું લખેલું તમે બધાય આ પુણ્યના હકદાર...

The farmers of Madhya Pradesh’s Devas district took out a funeral procession of the borewell pump. The farmers were using the borewells to irrigate their farms. The borewells had decreased their dependency on rainwater while enabling them to take three crops a year.  But this act of exploiting groundwater had diminished the groundwater tables to alarmingly low levels or no water at all. The villagers were compelled to migrate for employment as agriculture was not a gainful option.

Fed up with the poor water condition, a farmer decided to revamp the way they used water. He made a ‘khet talavdi,’ pond on his farm. As the water percolated from this pond,  the groundwater levels gradually came up. The soil also became rich in moisture content, while the need to irrigate the crops reduced. The success had a far-reaching impact as it inspired other farmers to follow suit. One visioner farmer was able to inspire farmers of the entire district. The farmers saved each possible drop of rainwater through ponds on-farm, compartment bunding, deepening of lakes… and this is how they managed to bid adieu to borewells.

For the past few years, we have commenced water conservation efforts in Banaskantha. There is a growing awareness of it now. This season we could deepen 20 lakes, we had plans to do many more but the Covid lockdown deterred our plans.

The deepening of lakes is underway in Jhalmor, Khaprol, Shiya, Katav and other villages in partnership with the government’s Sujalam Sufalam Abhiyan,  the undeterred support of our well-wishers and village participation.

We hope for greater awareness of the villagers and the Rain Gods to bless us and fill up the deepened lakes…

મધ્યપ્રદેશનો દેવાસ જિલ્લો જ્યાં ખેડૂતોએ મળીને બોરવેલની સ્મશાન યાત્રા કાઢી. વાત જાણે એમ હતી કે, દેવાસના ધરતીના પેટાળમાંથી પાણી ઉલેચવાની સગવડ બોરવેલ થકી થઈ. ખેડૂતોની આકાશી ખેતી પરની આધારીતતા ઘટી ને ખેડૂતો ત્રણ પાક લેવા માંડ્યા.

પણ અમાપ પાણી ઉલેચાવાના લીધે પેટાળ ખાલી થયા. સ્થળાંતરની સ્થિતિ નિર્માણ થઈ. આખરે એક ખેડૂતે પોતાના ખેતરમાં ખેત તલાવડી કરી. ખેત તલાવડીમાં વરસાદી પાણી ભરાયું. તલાવડીના તળમાંથી જમીનમાં પાણી પરકોલેટ(ઝમ્યુ) થયું. દિવાલોમાંથી ખેતરની આજુબાજુ પરકોલેટ થયું. જમીનમાં ભેજનું પ્રમાણ વદ્યું. આમ પાકને દા.ત.પાંચ વખત પાણી આપવું પડતું એ ઘટ્યું.. ને તળ પણ ઉપર આવ્યા. એક ખેડૂતને મળેલી સફળતાથી અન્ય ખેડૂતો પ્રેરાયા ને પછી તો આખા જિલ્લામાં જાગૃતિ આવી.

સૌએ જળસંચય માટે તળાવો, ખેતતલાવડી, ખેતરમાં કંપાર્ટમેન્ટ બંડીગ ટૂંકમાં પાણીના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવ્યું ને પછી સામૂહીક રીતે નીકળી બોરવેલની સ્મશાન યાત્રા...

#બનાસકાંઠા અમે #જળસંચય અભિયાન છેલ્લા કેટલાક વર્ષથી ઉપાડ્યું.. આજે જાગૃતિ દેખાય છે. આ સીઝનમાં અમે 20 તળાવો ગાળ્યા. આશા તો ઘણા કરવાની હતી પણ કોરોના નડ્યો.

હાલમાં #જાલમોર, #ખાપરોલ, #શિયા, #કટાવ વગેરે ગામોમાં સરકારના #સુજલામ_સુફલામ_અભીયાન અંતર્ગત VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા પ્રિયજનની આર્થિક મદદથી અને ગામની ભાગીદારીથી તળાવ ઊંડા કરવાના કાર્યો ચાલે છે. 

દરેક ગામ જાગે સ્વંય આ કાર્યો કરતા થાય ને મેધરાજા પણ મહેર કરે ને તળાવો છલકાઈ જાય એ અભીલાષા....

Banaskantha’s Bhadvel village.

“Our village lake needs to be deepened. Can you please come and have a look at it?”

It surprises us when someone approaches us with such a request. We keep writing about the value of unkept and unattended community lakes and the need to deepen them but it hardly draws the required attention.

So when Kamleshbhai Acharya, the young and sensitive Sarpanch of Bhadvel village approached us with this request,  it did cheer us up. It was not just Kamleshbhai,  but the well-informed farmers of the village also were equally eager to initiate water conservation work in Bhadvel. And all of them participated in the meeting we had in the village.

Under the participatory water conservation efforts, VSSM contributes the cost of JCB machine used to excavate the soil, while the community needs to ferry the excavated soil and each household is also required to contribute in cash for the upkeeping of the deepened lake. The moment we talk about community contribution and their responsibility in facilitating the soil lifting their enthusiasm diminishes. But Bhadvel community absorbed the concept and were prepared to play their part. During the meeting itself, they offered to mobilize Rs. 1 lac for the task.

I am sure if we receive such acceptance from every village all lakes would be deepened within no time. The groundwater tables in Bhadvel have shrunk to 700 feet and below. And the villagers are hopeful that once the lake is excavated,  the groundwater table will rise. The community is also prepared to set apart land for the tree plantation campaign along with a fence and water to irrigate the saplings.

Hope to come across more and more villages that follow Bhadvel’s path…..

'અમારા ગામમાં તળાવ ગાળવાની ખાસ જરૃર છે. તમે એક ફેરા તળાવ જોઈ લોને?'

સામેથી કોઈ વ્યક્તિ તળાવ ગળાવવાની વાત કરે એ વાત જ નવાઈ પમાડે. બાકી નોધારા તળાવોનું મહત્વ ને એ કેમ ગાળવું જોઈએ વગેરે બાબતે તો કેટલું લખ્યા અને બોલ્યા કરીએ.ખેર આનંદ થયો

બનાસકાંઠાના વાવના ભડવેલગામના જાગૃત અને યુવા સરપંચ કમલેશભાઈ આચાર્યની તળાવ ગાળવા માટેની લાગણી જોઈને.. જો કે આ લાગણીમાં સહભાગીતા આખા ગામની.. ભડવેલ ગઈ ત્યારે સરપંચ સહીત ગામના જાગૃત ખેડૂતો આ વાત કરવા હાજર હતા.

અમે તળાવ ગાળવા જેસીબી આપીએ, માટી ઉપાડવાનું કાર્ય ગામના શીરે એ ઉપરાંત ગામલોકો યથાશક્તિ ફાળો ભેગો કરે. જેનો ઉપયોગ તળાવ ખોદાવવામાં જ અમે કરીએ.. જેમાં ફાળાની વાત સમજાવવામાં અમને ખુબ મહેનત પડે. પણ ભડવેલગામના ખેડૂતો આ બાબતે એકદમ સહમત થયા. અમે ત્યાં બેઠા હતા એ દરમિયાન જ એમણે 1 લાખનો ફાળો ભેગા કરવાનું કહી દીધું. 

આવો ઉત્સાહ દરેક ગામમાં જોવા મળે તો ગામનું એકેય તળાવ ઊંડુ થયા વગરનું ન રહે. 

ભડવેલમાં પાણીના તળ 700 ફૂટથી વધુ નીચે ગયા છે. જો તળાવ ગળાય ને એમાં પાણી ભરાય તો પાણીના તળ ઉપર આવવાના એ નક્કી... 

ભડવેલમાં વૃક્ષારોપણ માટે પણ જગ્યા ફાળવવા ગામલોકોને વાત કરી ને એ લોકો એ માટે પણ તૈયાર થયા. તારની વાડ અને પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા વૃક્ષારોપણની જગ્યા માટે એ કરી આપશે... 

તળાવના કાર્યો સક્રિય રીતે થાય એ માટે અમારા કાર્યકર નારણ ખુબ જહેમત ઉઠાવે. ગામને શોધવા, તેમની સાથે વાત કરવી વગેરે જેવું થકવાડનારુ કાર્ય એ ઉત્સાહથી કરે. બાકી દરેક ગામ ભડવેલની જેમ જાગૃત થાય એમ ઈચ્છીએ...

Almost four years ago, VSSM initiated Participatory Water Management efforts in Banaskantha. 117 community lakes are deepened so far. Amitbhai Joshi is a well informed and aware citizen residing in Banaskantha’s Bhachli village. On learning of VSSM’s initiative, he invited us for the same in his village.

As the name of this initiative suggests, the first precondition to launching any lake deepening initiative is community participation. VSSM bears the cost of JCB expenses, rest all the costs including contributions by individual households, have to be borne by the village community. The funds collected from the families are to be used for the upkeeping of the deepened lakes. However, despite of the fact that these efforts obviously benefited the village,  many villages do not agree to this preconditions. Even if the village leadership agrees to raise Rs. 500 from each house, it will add up to be a substantial collection. But the leaders remain reluctant to do even that.

But not the village of Bhalicha.

A joint meeting with village elders and youth was organised at the Ram temple premises. To our surprise, there were no questions raised when we shared the preconditions and the need to collect contribution. “It will be done!!” Amitbhai and other youth spoke in unison. We were elated to find such young men who are prepared to work proactively for the development of their village.

The Sardar Sarovar Canal remains in the vicinity to Bhalicha, it the canal overflows the water may spill over into the lake, but as a result of neglect of years the lake has become extremely shallow, there is no scope for water to accumulate. If efforts were made to deepen it, there was the potential of collecting more water and benefiting the farmers. It would enable the farmers to take all three seasons. Like everywhere else in Banaskantha, water scarcity has triggered migration from Bhalicha too. Since the arrival of Sardar Sarovar canal, many have returned and agriculture is flourishing. If all three lakes of Bhalicha were to deepened, the village is bound to prosper.

 The Gando Bawal/Prosopis juliflora or the Mad ZTree dominates the landscape around Bhalicha, we also proposed tree plantation drive in the village. The youth is prepared but that needs to be firmed up well. The lake will be deepened for sure.

બનાસકાંઠામાં તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું અભીયાન અમે છેલ્લા ચાર વર્ષથી ચલાવીએ. અત્યાર સુધી 117 તળાવો અમે ઊંડા કર્યા. આ અંગે અમીતભાઈને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો ને એમણે ભાચલીમાં આ કાર્ય માટે અમને નિમંત્રણ આપ્યું.

અમારી શરત લોકભાગીદારીની..

તળાવ ખોદકામ માટે જેસીબી અમારુ, બાકી માટી ગામલોકો ઉપાડે ને શક્ય નાનકડો ફાળો પણ ગામલોકો આપે જે તળાવ ખોદવામાં જ વપરાય. પણ ઘણા ગામો આ ફાળા માટે તૈયાર ન થાય.. મને ખુબ નવાઈ લાગે.. શું કામ આપણા પોતાના ભલા માટે આમ તો ચોખ્ખા દેખાતા ફાયદા માટે ગામલોકો તૈયાર નથી થતી? ગામ આખુ ભેગુ થઈને ઘર દીઠ 500 ઉધરાવે તોય સારી એવી રકમ એકત્રીત થઈ જાય.. પણ આ દિશામાં આપણે બધા બહુ મોળા છીએ...

પણ ભાચલી નોખુ..

ગામના રામજીમંદિરમાં ગામના યુવાનો ને વડિલો સાથે બેઠક થઈ ને એમાં ભાગીદારીની વાત કરી. અમારા આશ્ચર્ય વચ્ચે કોઈએ સામે એકેય સવાલ કર્યો નહીં. એ થઈ જશે બેન... એવો અમીતભાઈ ને અન્ય મિત્રોનો સૂર.. પોતાના ગામના વિકાસ માટે આવો ઉત્સાહ દાખવનાર આવા મિત્રોને મળીને રાજીપો થયો..

ભાચલીની નજીક નર્મદા કેનાલ જાય. કેનાલ ઓવરફ્લો થાય એટલે એક તળાવમાં પાણી ભરાય પણ આ તળાવ ગળાયે વર્ષો થઈ ગઈ ગયેલા. તળાવ તદન છીછરુ. જો ગળાય તો વધુ પાણી સમાય ને લોકો ખેતીની ત્રણેય સીઝન લઈ શકે..

એક વખતે પાણીના અભાવે ગામના મહત્તમ લોકોએ સ્થળાંતર કરેલું. પણ પાણી આવતા ઘણા લોકો ગામમાં પરત આવ્યા ને ખેતી અને પુશપાલન કરવા માંડ્યા. ગામના ત્રણેક તળાવ ગળાય ને એમાં પાણી ભરાય તો ગામની સમૃદ્ધીમાં ઘણો વધારો થાય.

આમ તો ગામમાં ને ગામના ચરામાં મહત્તમ બાવળ જોઈ શકાય. અમે આ બાવળની જગ્યાએ બીજા ઝાડ વાવવા માટેનું આયોજન પણ ગામની ભાગીદારીથી કરવા ગામના યુવાનોને કહ્યું. એ લોકોએ હાલ તો એ માટે પણ તૈયારી દર્શાવી છે. બાકી તળાવ તો સાથે મળીને ગાળીશું એ નક્કી...

Sutharnesdi village Sarpanch Dineshbhai is an enthusiastic human being. I had to spoke to him regarding the Bharathari families staying in the village. During the conversation, I could sense his aspiration to work towards the development of the village he led. Hence I very casually inquired, “Has the village lake deepened recently?” Well, these casual questions have become a habit these days.

“Ben, I have been thinking about it!” he had responded.

We were quick to grab this opportunity. We shared details of  VSSM’s participatory water management program.

“Ben, the village will contribute and so will I!” Such generous intention.

Under the lake deepening initiative, VSSM funds JCBB expenses for mud excavation, the village community needs to move the excavated soil through tractors and contribute in cash towards creating the maintenance fund. Sutharnesdi’s sarpanch and the community agreed to these clauses.

We became a little more greedy once the community agreed to lake deepening. “We should also carry tree plantation drive in the village,” I suggested.

Dineshbhai agreed to that too.  Later we visited the lake to be deepened. 

If the leadership of other villages are as proactive as Dineshbhai,  grassroots development will not remain a distant story!!

આમ તો દિનેશભાઈ સાથે મારી વાત ગામમાં રહેતા #ભરથરી પરિવારોના વસવાટને લઈને થયેલી.. 

પણ એ વાતચીતમાં એમનો ગામના વિકાસ માટેનો ભાવ પ્રબળ દેખાયો. તેમની આ લાગણી જોઈને તમારા ગામનું તળાવ ગળાયેલું છે? એવું સાહજિક પુછાઈ ગયેલું.. પેલું સુથારનું મન બાવળિયે એ કહેવાતની જેમ જ..

દિનેશભાઈએ કહ્યું, બેન તળાવ ગળાવવાની મારી ભાવના છે બસ પછી તો અમે તક ઝડપી લીધી.. લોકભાગીદારીથી તળાવ ગળાવવા બાબતની અમે વાત કરીને એમણે કહ્યું, બેન ગામ સહકાર આપશે વ્યક્તિગત હું પોતે પણ આપીશ...કેવી ઉમદા ભાવના..

અમે તળાવ ગાળીએ એટલે માટી ઉપાડવાનું કાર્ય ગામલોકોએ કરવાનું, જેસીબી અમે મુકીએ એ ઉપરાંત ગામલોકો યથાશક્તિ ફાળો ભેગો કરે જે ખોદકામમાં વપરાય એવી અમારી લાગણી..

સુથારનેસડીના સરપંચ અને ગ્રામજનોએ અમારી આ શરત સાથે તળાવ ગળાવવાની મંજૂરી આપી.. 

આ સહમતી પછી પાછી લાલચ વધી અમે કહ્યું, ગામમાં વૃક્ષારોપણ પણ કરીએ.. ને દિનેશભાઈને અન્ય સૌએ કહ્યું હા એ પણ કરીએ...એ પછી ગામનું જે તળાવ ગાળવાનું છે એ જોયું.. 

દરેક ગામ આ રીતે જાગે તો ગામોના વિકાસને ઝાઝી વાર ન લાગે...

It is impossible to imagine life without water. Yet, we have overexploited one of the most precious resources on earth. The groundwater reserves that had to remain untouched are on verge of exhaustion. Numerous city dwellers share that unavailability of water forced them to migrate to cities despite having land and house in their native village. Migrations like these should not have happened in the first place. 

It is important that along with water conservation efforts, we also educate the population on the value of pure water. And sooner we do that better it is. 

VSSM has deepened 115 lakes in Banaskantha 

During the past 4 years, VSSM has deepened 115 lakes in Banaskantha, this year the target is to deepen 50 more. Of course, all this happens with community participation. 

It is not just the youth but the entire Bhatasana village that is quite aware of water conservation. Last year we deepened one of its lake, good monsoon and surplus water from Sardar Sarovar helped fill up the lake to the brim. Once the lakes fill up the groundwater gets recharged and the farmers also stand to benefit. 

The residents of Bhatasana very well understood the philosophy behind deepening of lakes; Chandrakantbhai, a youth wind leader called up to ensure his entire team is prepared in whichever way possible to support VSSM undertake water conservation efforts in their village. 

During the recent meeting with the Bhatasana community, the villagers agreed to contribute Rs. 50,000 and lift all the excavated soil. Such sensitive communities need to applauded to the fullest.

To me planting trees and conserving water are holy deeds, they spread the goodness around, bring much needed respite to those who rely on it. 

Bhatasana residents have woken up to the need for conserving water and environment but the residents of Banaskantha and Patan must understand the gravity of the growing water crisis in their region.  

In the attached video Bhatasana residents Kirtibhai and others share the benefits of the water conservation efforts in their village. The entire water conservation efforts are taken forward by VSSM Naranbhai, who puts in a lot of hard work and enthusiasm in this work.

જળ - જેના વગર આ ધરતી જીવ વિહોણી બજંર થઈ જાય..છેલ્લા ઘણા વર્ષોમાં પાણીનો બેફામ ઉપયોગ ને જમીનમાંથી પાણીનું અમાપ દોહન જોઈને ખેડૂતોને મોંઢે સાંભળેલું ત્રીસ પાંત્રીસ વર્ષ પહેલાં શું હતું તે યાદ  આવી જાય....

શહેરમાં આવીને વસેલાં લોકોમાંથી ઘણા કહે ગામમાં ઘર ને ખેતર બધુયે છે પણ પાણી નહોતું એટલે જીવવા શહેરોમાં આવ્યા.. મારા મતે આ ઈચ્છીત સ્થળાંતર નથી.. 

આનો ઉકેલ પાણી બચાવવાની સાથે સાથે એનું મૂલ્ય સમજવામાં હવે ઝાઝી વાર ન લગાડીએ તે..અમે બનાસકાંઠાના 115 તળાવોને છેલ્લા ચાર વર્ષમાં ઊંડા કર્યા..આ વર્ષે પણ ગ્રામજનોની ભાગીદારીથી 50 તળાવો કરવાનો લક્ષાંક છે.. 

#ભટાસણા ગામના યુવાનો ને આમ તો આખુયે ગામ બહુ જાગૃત.. ગયા વર્ષે અમે ગામનું એક તળાવ ગાળ્યું. ચોમાસુ સારુ હતું તે વરસાદથી અને પછી સરકારે પણ નર્મદા કેનાલમાંથી કાઢેલી પાઈપલાઈનથી આ તળાવને#vssm ભર્યું. તળાવમાં પાણી ભરાય ને એ પાણી જમીનમાં ઉતરે તો તળ ઉપર આવે સાથે સાથે પશુપક્ષીઓને પણ પાણી મળે.. ને ખેડૂતોને ખેતીમાં પણ ફાયદો થાય..

એ ફાયદો ગામલોકો બરાબર સમજ્યા. એટલે જ ગામના જાગૃત યુવાન ચંદ્રકાન્તભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો ને ગામના તમામ ને પોતાની આખી ટીમ ગામનું તળાવ ગાળવા જરૃરી તમામ મદદ કરશેનું કહ્યું. ભટાસણાવાસીઓ સાથે તળાવ ગાળવા સંદર્ભે બેઠક કરી. જેમાં ગ્રામજનોએ સામેથી માટી ઉપાડવા સિવાય 50,000નો ફાળો પણ તળાવ ખોદકામ માટે આપવાની વાત કરી... આવા સંવેદનશીલ ગ્રામવાસીઓને તો પ્રણામ કરવા ઘટે... 

મારા મતે #તળાવ ગળાવવું ને ઝાડ વાવવું આ બેય પુણ્યના કામો.. હજારો જીવોને એનાથી સાતા મળે... ભટાસણાવાસીઓ તો જાગ્યા પણ બનાસકાંઠા, પાટણ વિસ્તારના અન્ય ગ્રામજનો ઝટ જાગે એમ ઈચ્છીએ... 

ભટાસણાગામનું VSSM ની મદદથી ગળાયેલા તળાવથી થયેલા ફાયદાની વાત કરતા ગામના કીર્તીભાઈની અન્ય સ્નેહીજનો.. તથા ગયા વર્ષે ભરાયેલું તળાવ, GACL માંથી સંસ્થાના કાર્યોને જોવા આવેલા આસ્થા ને અન્ય ગ્રામજનો..

પણ ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય

As a young boy, I too would be part of the entourage that went to repair the community lakes… these memories are from 30-35 years ago. The times have changed now people want water but do not wish to contribute towards maintaining  the water sources!!”

Bhagwanbhai, Sarpanch of Banaskantha’s Suigaum had mentioned this while we were discussing the water conservation efforts for their village.

The lake got filled up this year because rains have been sufficient in this drought-prone region of Gujarat.

It is impossible to drill borewell in Dudhwa village as the groundwater is saline. If the lakes fill-up the farmers can use the water in farming even after October. Also,  if the lakes fill-up it will prevent the salinity to rise further, the community had shared.

In this arid and drought-prone region,  farmers await rains more so after the lakes were deepened. Last year there were no rains in the region, the lake of Dudhwa  village remained dry but his year the rain gods have blessed them all, the lakes are brimming with water. In this saline regions, they cannot deepen the lakes instead of we have to widen them. “Ben, this year is going to be bountiful. We shall be able to take two crops.

The regions like Banaskantha that primarily depend on agriculture and dairy it is crucial to implement water conservation works on a wider scale. The simple people of this region survive on minimum needs. One good monsoon every 2-3 years is enough to sustain them for a couple of years.

I am grateful to the well-wishing dear ones of VSSM who have supported our water conservation efforts.

Environment and water conservation are non-negotiables now, it is better we realise the gravity of the emerging situation and act ASAP.

બેન મુ નેનો હતો તાણ નવોણી અગિયારસના દાડે ગોમમોં રેતા નેના મોટા ટૂંકમોં કોમ કરી હક એ બધા તળાવ ગાળવા જતા...

આ તરી પોતરી વરહ પેલાની વાત કરુ સુ. મુયે નેનો હતો તાણ તળાવ ગાળવા જેલો... પણ હવ કળજુગ શરૃ થ્યો. લોકોન્ પોણી તો જોવ પણ તળાવ ગાળવામોં ભાગીદાર નઈ થવું...

બનાસકાંઠાના સૂઈગામ તાલુકાના દૂધવાગામના સરપંચ ભગવાનભાઈએ એમના ગામમાં VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોની મદદથી ખોદાઈ રહેલું તળાવ ગળાતું હતું તે વખતે આ વાત કરેલી..

આ તળાવ કુદરતની મહેરથી આ વર્ષે એટલે ભરાયું.

દૂધવાગામમાં બોરવેલ શક્ય નથી. પેટાળમાં સાત થી દસ ફૂટે ખારુ પાણી છે. તળાવ ભરાય તો ખેડૂતો નવરાત્રી પછી આ તળાવમાંથી પાણી લઈને ખેતી કરી શકે. વળી તળાવ ભરાય તો જમીનમાં ખારાશ આગળ વધતી અટકે એવું પણ ભગવાનભાઈ અને ગ્રામજનોનું કહેવું છે...

આવા સૂકા દુષ્કાળગ્રસ્ત વિસ્તારોમાં તળાવ ગળાયા પછી મેધાની વાટ અમે બધા જોઈએ પણ એ વરસે મેધો ના પણ પડે.. જેમ દૂધવામાં ગયા વર્ષે વરસાદ જરાય ન આવ્યો. અમારુ ગળાયેલું તળાવ કોરુ ધાક્કોર રહ્યું. પણ આ વર્ષે ખેડૂતોએ કહ્યું બેન લહેર છે. ચોમાસુ અને શિયાળુ બેય પાક સરસ થશે..

આ વિસ્તારમાં તળાવ ઊંડા નથી ગળાતા પણ એને પહોળા ગાળવાના... કારણ પેટાળમાં ખારાશ છે માટે...

આવા વિસ્તારોમાં મહત્તમ પાણીના કામો થાય તે જરૃરી છે. જ્યાં લોકોનો જીવવાનો આધાર માત્ર ખેતી અને પશુપાલન છે..

લોકો બહુ ઓછી જરૃરિયાતો સાથે જીવે છે. બે ત્રણ વર્ષે એક ચોમાસુ સારુ આવી જાય તો બે વર્ષ જીવી જવાય એવું એ લોકો કહે...

આવા આ વિસ્તારમાં મદદરૃપ થનાર પ્રિયજનોનો આભાર માનુ છું...

પાણી અને પર્યાવરણ બેયની ચિંતા કરવી આજના સમયની તાતી જરૃર છે. સમાજ, લોકો આ બાબતે જાગૃત થાય તેમ ઈચ્છીએ...

To understand the kind of  progress and change selfless leaders at the realm can bring in, one should  pay a  visit Tharad’s Aasodar village. 

There have been some vested interest groups brewing up after we decided to link up our lake deepening works with Sujalam Suflam scheme by the government. A large number of VSSM well-wishers are donating for this initiative, we felt the government support will reduce the pressure on donations.

Never has anyone asked for any favours in return or money from us in the past. However, when leadership in some villages got the sense that we will be working in partnership with the government “what is in for us?” they asked without any qualms. 

This attitude brought in shock and sadness.

 Amidst this, Padmabhai from Asodar came forward, called in the village and told them firmly that the conservation efforts were for our benefit and not the organisation. VSSM is not gaining any financial rewards to form this work. “We have to bring in the tractors,” he shouted and everyone listened to him. 

 I was thrilled at the sight of countless tractors lined up at the site when I reached Asodar. As seen in the image, Padmabhai and Lalabhai met me at the banks of the lake. And all this is the result of the tenacious efforts Shardaben and Naran have poured in. 

નિસ્વાર્થ માણસો જ્યાં બેઠા હોય ત્યાં કાર્યો કેવા રૃડા થાય એનું ઉદાહરણ થરાદનું આસોદર ગામ

સરકારની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજના અને સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્નેહીજનોની મદદથી તળાવ ગાળવાનું અમે નક્કી કર્યું કે, ગામોમાં રહેતા કેટલાકના સ્વાર્થ જાગ્રત થયા.

VSSM દ્વારા જળસંચયના કામો થતા એમાં કોઈ દિવસ કોઈએ અમારી પાસે પૈસોય માંગ્યો નહીં. પણ અમુક ગામોમાં જેવી ખબર પડી કે આ વખતે તળાવો સરકારની સહભાગીતાથી કરવાના છીએ એટલે તુરત બર્શમ થઈને અમારુ શું? એવું કેટલાકે કહ્યું.

દુઃખ થાય આવું સાંભળીએ ત્યારે..

ખેર આવામાં આસોદરમાં રહેતા પદમાભાઈ જેવા માણસો આગળ આવ્યા જેમણે આખા ગામને એક કર્યું અને આ કામ તો આપણા હીતનું છે. સંસ્થાનો આમાં કોઈ સવારથ નથી. આપણે ટ્રેક્ટર આપવા પડશે એવું મોટી બૂમ પાડી એમણે કહ્યું ને ગામે એમની વાત માન્ય રાખી.

હું આસોદર પહોંચી તો અધધધ કહી શકાય એટલા ટ્રેક્ટર જોઈને જ મજા પડી. પદમાભાઈ અને લાલાભાઈ તળાવની પાળે મને મળ્યા. જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે..

The participatory water management works have allowed me to meet and interact with numerous Sarpanchs, while some sarpanches portrayed appalling attitude there was Sarpanch like that of Lavana who assured there was hope for a better future.

Shri Ramabhai Rajput is a proactive sarpanch of Lavana. Equally enthusiastic is Shri T. P Rajput, a BJP leader from Banaskantha. I happened to meet both these selfless humans recently while I was in the region to monitor the lake deepening works and evaluate the places identified for tree plantation program for this year. There is not a single widow or dependent in the village who has not received the benefits of appropriate Government schemes. Ramabhai has ensured that their forms are filled and applications processed to positive conclusions.

Shri T. P. Rajput very rightly said, “Ben, when it comes to the progress of a village we have to put aside all our numerous differences including the political ones!!”

When the reins of village administration are in hands of an understanding individual who also has the required cooperation of a regional leader like T. P. Rajput, Lavana sure is on the path of progress.

Lavana is one of the 25 villages we plan to select to develop them as model villages. 

 Our Naran has been successful in establishing VSSM’s correct image, he works extremely hard for the development of poor and marginalised. Along with Naran is our Chirag who even under blazing sun monitors the works under progress. As I always claim, it is a blessing to have such a hard-working team.

I am grateful to Lavana Sarpanch Ramabhai and Shri T. P Rajput for hosting me in their village. Both these gentlemen aspire not just for the economic progress of their region but also to make the region water-rich and green once again. Hope the farmers of the region decide to join hands to make these dreams a reality.

 વાત લવાણાની..

ગામનો વિકાસ સરપંચ કેવી લાગણીવાળા આમ તો લાગણીવાળા કરતાં વૃતિવાળા છે એના ઉપર આધારીત..

વિચરતી જાતિઓ સાથેના તેમજ જળસંચયના કાર્યો દરમ્યાન ઘણા ગામોના સરપંચોને મળવાનું થાય જેમાં કેટલાકની વૃતિને જોઈને ભારે દુઃખ થાય તો ક્યાંક લવાણા ગામના સરપંચ જેવા ને જોઈને દેશ પ્રગતિ કરી શકશેનો ભરોષો થાય.

લવાણાના સરપંચ રામાભાઈ રાજપૂજ અને એમના જેવા જ ઉત્સાહી ટી.પી. રાજપૂત જેઓ બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લાના ભાજપના અગ્રણી..

આ બેય પરગજુ માણસોને મળવાનું થયું. લવાણાનું તળાવ સરકાર તેમજ સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા પ્રિયજનની મદદથી ખોદી રહ્યા છીએ એ જોવા તેમજ આ ચોમાસે ગામની કેટલીક જગ્યામાં VSSM અને ગામની ભાગીદારીથી વૃક્ષારોપણ કરવું છે તે જોવા જવાનું થયું.

ગામમાં એક પણ વિધવા કે નિરાધાર વ્યક્તિ એવા નથી કે જેમને સરકારની મદદ ન મળતી હોય. આ માટે સરપંચે પોતે સામે ચાલીને આવા વ્યક્તિઓની અરજીઓ કરાવેલી અને ઠેઠ પરિણામ સુધી કાર્યને પહોંચાડ્યું.

ટી.પી. રાજપુતે તો કહ્યું, બેન ગામના વિકાસના કામોમાં અન્ય તમામ ભેદ એ પછી રાજકીય હોય કે અન્ય એ બધાયે બાજુમાં મૂકીને વિચારવાનું..

ગામમાં એક પુસ્તકાલય ચાલે જેમાં ગામના યુવાનો સ્પર્ધાત્મક પરિક્ષાની તૈયારી કરે.

સમજદાર વ્યક્તિઓના હાથમાં ગામની સત્તા હોય અને ટીપી રાજપૂજ જેવા અગ્રણીઓનો સહયોગ હોય તો લવાણાની પ્રગતિ ઝડપથી થવાની જ.

બનાસકાંઠામાં 25 ગામો પસંદ કરવા છે જેને આદર્શ બનાવવા છે લવાણા એમાંનું એક છે.

કાર્યકર નારણે આ વિસ્તારમાં VSSMની સાચી ઓળખને પ્રસ્થાપીત કરી છે. ગ્રામ વિકાસ અને વંચિતો માટે કંઈક કરી છૂટવાની તેની ભાવના જબરજસ્ત છે.

અમારા કાર્યકર ચીરાગ તળાવના કામોમાં ખરા તડકામાં નારણ સાથે ખભેખભા મીલાવી દોડી રહ્યા છે. આવી સુંદર ટીમ સાથે હોવી એ નસીબની વાત છે.

લવાણા સરપંચ અને જાગૃત આગેવાન ટી.પી. રાજપૂતે પોતાના ગામમાં આવકાર આપ્યો, સત્કાર કર્યો એ માટે આભારી છું.

આ બેય પ્રગતીશીલ વ્યક્તિઓનું સ્વપ્ન લવાણાની સાથે સાથે પોતાના પ્રદેશને પાણીવાળો કરવા માટેનું છે..આ વિસ્તારના ખેડૂતો સાથે આવે તો આ બધુયે શક્ય...
