What will you do when a passenger travelling in your auto rickshaw goes away leaving behind packet containing Rs. 4,00,000 and if the packet is in your hand? I don’t come to the conclusion, but you must answer this...

The general impression of the people of Nomadic and De-Notified community is like thieves and burglars and the people at large are not willing to let them come close to themselves. Nanjibhai an ordinary person belonging to the said community found a sum of Rs.4,00,000 left by some passenger travelling in his auto rikshaw, he was terribly worried to see that. He knew about the person who forgot the money and  the purpose for it was to be used. Hence he was more concerned.

The money was to be used for Premlataben Gehlot who had come from Jodhpur and was to have a heart surgery at Sal Hospital. Nanjibhai terribly disturbed to think of the condition of Premlataben Gehlot and her husband if the money does not reach them. He took the auto rickshaw to the place where he had dropped the couple and asked people about them. After many efforts and search, he could finally locate them and handed over the money to them. Premlataben literally started crying and her husband asked Nanjibhai to take the amount he wants from those Rs.4,00,000.

Nanjibhai said “they were not rich people. They came to Ahmedabad with the savings of entire life”. What should I do by taking money from them? I said no but they happily gave me Rs.2,000.

In response to a question why he returned the money and did he not feel temptation to keep the entire amount. Nanjibhai's reply was simply wonderful.  He said “Ben, I can have only which is rightful. I can’t keep the money which is not rightfully gained. Though, they forgot that money, it was their hard earned money how can I be at rest if I swallow that? Further I am a leader of Bajaniya community. The behaviour of the leader should be exemplary. If I am caught with greediness then how can I contribute to my community? I should not do even a little wrong.  How wonderful! What should be the stature of a leader we should learn from a person belonging to the community whom we all neglect.

Our Governor appreciated Mr. Nanjibhai's honesty and gave him a prize of Rs 10,000. For Nanjibhai, this prize is more important than any award. A small man who is living in a constant deprived conditions still keeps aside greediness. Thereby he provides an example of how a good leader should be.

#વિચરતી #વિમુક્ત જાતિની છાપ ચોર, લુંટારા જેવી ને લોકો તેમને પોતાની નજીક રાખવાય રાજી નહીં. આવી છાપ ધરાવતી જાતિમાંનો એક સામાન્ય માણસ નાનજીભાઈ બજાણિયાને પોતાની રીક્ષામાં બેઠેલા પેસેન્જના ચાર લાખ જડી જાય છે ને એ પૈસા જોઈને એ ચિંતામાં આવી જાય છે. આ ચાર લાખ કોના છે ને એ ક્યાં વપરાવવાના છે તેની તેમને ખબર હતી એટલે ચિંતા ઔર વધી. જોધપુરથી આવેલા પ્રેમલતાબહેન ગેહલોતની સાલ હોસ્પીટલમાં હાર્ટ સર્જરી છે ને આ પૈસા એ માટેના છે. પૈસા એમને પાછા નહીં મળે તો પ્રેમલતાબહેન ને એમના પતિની હાલત શું થશે તે વિચારીને નાનજીભાઈને કંપારી આવી ગઈ. રીક્ષા દોડાવી જ્યાં આ દંપતીને ઉતાર્યુ હતું ત્યાં ને જઈને બધાને આવા દંપતીને જોયાનું પુછ્યુ. ઘણે ઠેકાણે દોડ્યા પછી દંપતી મળ્યું ને એમને હેમખેમ પૈસા આપ્યા. પ્રેમલતાબહેન તો રીતસર રડી પડ્યા તેમના પતિએ નાનજીભાઈને ચાર લાખમાંથી જેટલા જોઈએ એટલા લઈ લેવા કહ્યું. 

નાનજીભાઈ કહે, બેન એય કાંઈ બહુ મોટા માણસ નહોતા. આખી જીંદગીની જમા પુંજી લઈને અમદાવાદ આવેલા. એમની પાસેથી લઈને હું શું કરુ.મે ના પાડી પણ એમણે હરખથી મને બે હજાર આપ્યા. 

પૈસા પાછા આપવાનું કેમ કર્યું લાલચ ના થઈ એવા પ્રશ્નના જવાબમાં નાનજીભાઈએ અદભૂત વાત કરી. બેન મારા હકનું હોય એ મને ખપે અણહકનું લઉં તો મને ના પચે. વળી એ લોકો ભલે ભુલી ગયા પણ તેમની આંતરડી તો પૈસા પાછળ કકડી જ હોય ને આવા પૈસા લઉં તો હું કેવી રીતે સુખી થવુંં? પાછો હું બજાણિયા સમાજના મંડળમાં આગેવાન છું. આગેવાનનું વર્તન અનુકરણીય હોવું જોઈએ આવામાં હું જ લાલચમાં આવી જવું તો મારા સમાજના ઘડતરમાં હું શું યોગદાન આપી શકુ? મારાથી તો જરાય ખોટુ આચરણ ના કરાય. 

કેવી અદભૂત વાત. આગેવાન કેવો હોય એ સાવ નાનો ને આપણે સૌ જેને ધુત્કારીએ છીએ એવા સમાજના વ્યક્તિ પાસેથી શીખવાની જરૃર છે.

નાનજીભાઈની આ ઈમાનદારીની કદર આપણા રાજ્યપાલ શ્રીએ કરીને રૃા.૧૦, ૦૦૦નું ઈનામ તેમને આપ્યું. 

નાનજીભાઈ માટે આ પુરસ્કાર કોઈ પણ એવોર્ડ કરતા વધારે મહત્વનો છે.. એક નાનો માણસ જે સતત અભાવમાં જીવે છે છતાં ખોટી લાલચોને બાજુમાં હડસેલી ઉત્તમ આગેવાન કેવો હોય તેનું ઉદાહરણ પુરુ પાડે છે. આવા આગેવાન નાનજીભાઈની ઈમાનદારીને સલામ....

VSSM Helped a Nomadic Community Member Govind Build hid Dream House

“You have done more than a family member, I can never thank you enough!!”

“I can never thank you enough, Ben. You are my guardian angel! You were kind enough to notice me and take care of my problems. Can you imagine Govind building a pucca house without the support you have provided? Even relatives wouldn’t care as much as you have...” Govind was overwhelmed by  the fact that he will now be living in a pucca house and his debt ridden life is a problem of past.

I happened to meet Govind or rather Govabhai Bajaniyaa, a resident of Totana village during 2017’s floods that devastated Banaskantha. Govind earned his living through selling balloons, hairclips, rubber bands, hairbands etc.  The death of his mother had required Govind to borrow Rs. 7,000 from a private money lender. The money was to be spent on the last rites of his mother. Govind kept paying the instalments but,  somehow the amount just did not decrease.  The interest and principle amount kept increasing and ballooned up to Rs. 70,000. VSSM helped him free from this debt.

The floods had taken away his shanty and the dream of a house remained as shattered as his present. But, the kindness and support of the well-wishers of VSSM helped Govind realize his dream of a pucca house. Mumbai based Chainikabahen extended support of Rs. 25,000 to help build a house for Govind. Very soon Govind will move into his new home, a development that is still very surreal for him!!

ગુજરાતી અનુવાદ

‘તમે મારા #માવીતર સો બેન. તમે મને હોભળ્યો અન મારી હોમે તાચ્યુ. નકર આ ગોવિંદનું તે ઈમ કોય પાકુ ઘર થાય? હગાય ના રાખ એવી લાગણી તમે અમાર બલ્લે રાખી. તમાર તો ઓભાર મોનુ એટલો ઓસો..’

ગોવિંદ સાચુ નામ ગોવાભાઈ #બજાણિયા ટોટાણાનો વતની. બનાસકાંઠાના પુર વખતે તેને મળવાનું થયું.

મા મૃત્યુ પામીને એનું #કારજ કરવા ગોવિંદ વ્યાજવા સાત હજાર લાવેલો ને એ સાત હજારના એણે સીત્તેર હજાર ચુકવવાના આવ્યા. કમાઈ કમાઈને વ્યાજ ભર્યા જ કરે પણ મુદલ ઓછી ના થાય.. અમે મદદ કરીને એ વ્યાજમાંથી મુક્ત થયો. #ફુગ્ગા, બોરિયા, બકલ વગેરે વેચવાનું ગોવિંદ કરે.

પુરમાં છાપરુને બધુયે તણાઈ ગ્યું. પાકુ ઘર એતો સ્વપ્ન જેવું હતું પણ સંસ્થાને મદદ કરનાર દાતાઓના સહયોગથી ગોવિંદનું ઘર થયું. મુંબઈના ચૈનિકાબહેને પણ ગોવિંદને ઘર માટે 25,000ની મદદ કરીને. જુઓ ગોવિંદ હવે ટૂંક સમયમાં જ પોતાના અને એ પણ પાકા ઘરવાળો થવાનો...

આભાર પ્રિયજનો...

ગોવિંદ હાલ જ્યાં રહે છે એ છાપરુ તો જોવું જ રહ્યું ને બે મહિનામાં ગોવિંદ જે ઘરમાં રહેવા જવાનો એ પણ દેખાય.. 

‘તમે અંદરથી ઘરનું બોધકોમ જુઓ’ એવો હરખ ગોવિંદનો એટલે ગોવિંદનો એ સ્વપ્ન બંગલો ચણાતો અંદર બહારથી જોયો....

Vali Ma #Bajaniya, lives by the roadside near Viramgaum’s Handalpur cross-roads. Her abode is open to sky and her few belongings strewn across where she sits and sleeps near the roadside. Vali Ma is a #widow and physically challenged but she, has never received any assistance from any of the government schemes. Recently the efforts of #VSSM’s Kanubhai helped her obtain a ration card. However, a residential plot for which we have been trying since years, seems a distant dream!

Vali Ma has been staying on wasteland near this crossroads for years but the villagers have had some issues and made her leave the place hence, she now lives next to the road. She came all the way to Palanpur from Viramgaam she walks with her hands and that is what she did. “Can anyone think of giving my hands some rest, I have spent my entire life like so but a house remains out of reach.”

The people of #nomadic and de-notified communities have always believed that the government is their #guardian angel and will work to provide them better life since that has not happened these communities are now getting restless are asking #government to look at them, know that they also exist. They are sure the government will pay attention to their plight and struggle to #survive. Like Vali Ma, they are prepared to endure challenges to put their message across. If the government does not pay attention now, we will walk all the way to #Gandhinagar even with these hands but, will make them notice, ‘we also exist’.

Look how with great difficulty, Vali Ma reached the venue of the ‘We also Exist’ convention.

વિરમગામમાં હાંસલપુર ચોકડી પાસે આભનું ઓઢવાનું ને ધરતીનું પાથરણુ પાથરીને વાલીમા બજાણિયા રહે. વિધવા ને વિકલાંગ વાલી માને ના જડી વિધવા કે વિકલાંગ સહાય. રેશનકાર્ડેએ હમણાં VSSMના કાર્યકર કનુભાઈની મદદથી મળ્યું. બાકી પ્લોટ માટે તો વર્ષોની દોડાદોડી પણ તેનો અંત ના આવ્યો.

ચોકડી પાસેની ખરાબાની જગ્યામાં વર્ષોથી રેતા પણ હમણાં હમણાં ગામના લોકોને કાંઈક વાંધો પડ્યો તે ત્યાંથી કાઢી મુક્યા. હાલ તો રોડની બાજુમાં બે ચાર ગાભા ને ગોદડાં લઈને રહે છે.

અમે પણ છીએ કહેવા એ ઠેઠ વિરમગામથી પગે નહીં પણ હાથે ચાલીને આવ્યા. વાલી માં કે છે એમ ‘ભઈ સાબ હવે મારા હાથને વિશ્રોમ આલો. ઘર આલો. આખી જીંદગી ઓમ જતી રહી પણ ઘર નસીબ ના થ્યું.’

સરકાર અમારી માઈ- બાપ એવું માનનાર તમામ વિચરતી વિમુક્ત જાતિના લોકો હવે સરકાર પાસે જઈને ‘અમે પણ છીએ’ અમારી સામે જુઓની વાત કરવા માંડ્યા છે. વાલીમા જેવી લગન વિચરતી જાતિઓને થઈ છે. એટલે સરકાર અમારી હોમુ તાકશે જ ઈમો બે મત નહીં. ન ના તાક તો ઠેઠ ગોંધીનગર પગે ને પગ ના હોય 

તો હાથે હેડીન જઈશું પણ હવે તો અમાર કઈ જ દેવું સક અમે સીએ...

સંમેલનમાં કેવી મુશ્કેલી વેઠીને વાલી માં પહોંચ્યા એ જાતે જ જુઓ...

The nomadic  families who received assistance during  the
Garib Kalyan Mela

The Manav Garima and Manav Kalyan schemes by the government for the economically backward communities entitles them support to purchase tools to support or enhance their livelihoods. During the recently held  Garib Kalyan Mela in Patan district, VSSM’s Mohanbhai helped the 12 families belonging to Vansfoda and  Bajaniya communites living in Jesda, Boratwada, Baspa and Harij receive bicycles and hand-carts. 

The prerequisite to receive the benefits under the Manav Kalyan Scheme  the family has to be listed in the BPL list of a village whereas the Manav Garima scheme does not prescribe any such preconditions. Both these schemes serve the same objectives and can be termed as two sides of the same coin,  barring a  few  pre-requisites structurally both the scheme are quite similar. Since majority of the nomadic communities are not a part of any village expecting them to be part of the BPL list is a bit of too much for asking. While the Manav Kalyan Yojna is implemented by the Vikasti Jati Welfare Department it functions of limited budget - a conclusion drawn from our experience because every them an application gets rejected the reason cited is unavailability of funds!! Whereas the Manav Garima Scheme is executed through the Industry Department  hence has scope for more funds. Thus  if the BPL criteria is removed the benefits of such schemes can percolate to those who really need government assistance.

Well for now we are delighted that the truly deserving families benefited during the Garib Kalyan Mela and we are grateful to the authorities for their support...

રાજ્ય સરકાર દ્વારા આર્થિક રીતે પછાત પરિવારો આર્થિક રીતે સદ્ધર થાય તે માટે માનવ ગરીમા અને માનવ કલ્યાણ યોજના અંતર્ગત સાધનીક સહાય આપવામાં આવે છે. તાજેતરમાં પાટણ જિલ્લામાં આયોજીત ગરીબ કલ્યાણ મેળામાં vssmના કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈની મદદથી વાંસફોડા, બજાણિયા સમુદાયના જેસડા, બોરતવાડા, બાસ્પા અને હારીજમાં રહેતા કુલ 12 પરિવારોને હાથલારી તેમજ ફેરી કરવા માટે સાયકલની સહાય આપવામાં આવી.

માનવ ગરીમા યોજના અંતર્ગત જે પરિવારોના નામ બી.પી.એલ.યાદીમાં છે તેમને સાધનીક સહાય આપવામાં આવે છે જ્યારે માનવ ગરીમા યોજનાની મદદ મેળવવા વિચરતી –વિમુક્ત જાતિઓ બી.પી.એલ.માં હોવા જરૃરી નથી. બંને યોજનાનો હેતુ સમાન છે છતાં અમલીકરણમાં થોડો ફેર છે. વિચરતી જાતિઓ મોટાભાગે ગામનો હિસ્સો હોતી નથી આથી તેમના નામ બી.પી.એલ. યાદીમાં હોતા નથી આ સંજોગોમાં માનવ ગરીમા યોજનાની જેમ માનવ કલ્યાણ યોજનામાં પણ બી.પી.એલ. હોવાનો માપદંડ કાઢી નાખવામાં આવે તો મહત્તમ પરિવારો અને ખરેખર જેમને મદદની જરૃર છે તેમને મદદ મળશે. 

માનવ ગરીમા યોજનાનો અમલ વિકસતિ જાતિ કલ્યાણ ખાતુ કરે છે તેનું બજેટ મર્યાદીત હશે કારણ જ્યારે પણ અમે યોજનાની મદદ માટે અરજી કરીએ ત્યારે થોડાક લોકોની જ અરજી મંજુર થાય છે અરજી ના મંજુર થવાનું કારણ બજેટ નથી તેવું આપવામાં આવે છે. જ્યારે માનવ ગરીમા યોજના ઉદ્યોગ વિભાગ દ્વારા અમલી છે. જેની પાસે મોટું બજેટ છે. આમ વિચરતી જાતિઓને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને બી.પી.એલ.નો માપદંડ કાઢી નાખવું વધારે હીતાવહ લાગે છે.

ખેર ગરીબ કલ્યાણ મેળામાં વિચરતી જાતિના અમારા ખરા હકદારોને મદદ મળી તેનો આનંદ અને સરકારનો આભાર..

The tone and attitude of Mamlatdar Dantani was quite offending. It seemed as if the VSSM team member Tohid was in his office to beg for plots for the nomadic families and Mamlatdar Datani behaved as some land owner, refusing to do what was requested from him or rather do his job.
“We haven’t taken some contract to give plots to nomadic families in the region, don’t turn up everyday with new applications in hand. These people have settled here for many years now and we do not give plots to settled families, “ said Mamlatdar Dantani

“But, Sir although they are  staying  in Visnagar, they do not stay at one place. These families are required to changes places whenever they are shooed from one place, sometimes living near garbage dumps!!! Where do they have a permanent  place??  We had filled applications for these 12 Bajaniyaa families in the Collector’s office and they have asked me to bring it to you and  submit it here. I have also attached the letter by Collector in this regard where he has mentioned that  the applications be submitted to you.” replied Tohid.

“I do not understand all these and I am not going to accept any such applications.”  replied Shri Dantani,   rather rudely...

By now Tohid was getting really angry, but he remained calm and once again  tried explaining his point to Mamlatdar. “ Sir, these families cannot be called  settled families as the government is yet to allot them plots, these families move within Visnagar with  their bags and baggages. If the government has no reservation in allotting them the plots  why are you creating unnecessary obstacles!! Tohid was accompanied by Natubhai Bajaniyaa, one of the family members who had applied for the plot. He too tried explaining the matter but the Mamlatdar was in no mood to pay heed.

The Mamlatdar’s attitude saddened Natubhai who made the last attempt, “ Sir, you too belong to nomadic community, if you cannot understand our condition, who will!” said Natubhai.

Sadly though the Mamlatdar was no prepared to listen, it seemed as if the government was to  become landless if it began giving plots to such families. The families and VSSM team members are tired of such babudom by local authorities. When the VSSM team members aren’t heard imagine the plight of poor and ignorant nomads when they approach such officials on their own!!!

‘આખા વિસનગરમાં રહેતી વિચરતી જાતિને પ્લોટ આપવાનો અમે ઠેકો નથી રાખ્યો.આવી દરખાસ્તો લઈને રોજ રોજ નહીં આવવાનું. આ લોકો તો વર્ષોથી વિસનગરમાં સ્થાયી રહે છે તો એ સ્થાયી થઈ ગયા એમને પ્લોટ ના મળે.’

‘પણ સાહેબ વિસનગરમાં ભલે વર્ષોથી રહે પણ જ્યાં જગ્યા મળે ત્યાં છાપરાં ફેરવતા રહે છે. કાયમી જગ્યા એમની પાસે ક્યાં છે? ક્યારેક રોડની બાજુમાં તો ક્યારેક તળાવના કિનારે તો ક્યારેક ગંદકીની બાજુમાં રહેતા 12 બજાણિયા પરિવારોને કાયમી રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળે એ માટેની રજૂઆત અમે કલેક્ટર કચેરીએ કરી અને એમને આ દરખાસ્ત આપના મારફત જમા કરાવવા કહ્યું. આ સાથે કલેકટરે આ મુદ્દા પર લખેલો પત્ર છે જેમાં આપને દરખાસ્ત આપવા કહ્યું છે.’

‘આ બધુ હુ કાંઈ ના જાણુ. પણ આવી કોઈ દરખાસ્ત હુ લેવાનો નથી.’

મામલતદાર આર.કે.દંતાણીની વાત સાંભળી vssmના કાર્યકર તોહીદને બરાબર ગુસ્સો આવ્યો છતાં ફરીથી સમજાવવા કોશીશ કરી ‘સાહેબ જે વ્યક્તિને સરકારે પ્લોટ આપી દીધા હોય તે સ્થાયી કહેવાય પણ પ્લોટ મળ્યા જ નથી અને લબાચા લઈને ફરે છે તે અસ્થાયી જ છે અને સરકારને પ્લોટ ફા

ળવવામાં વાંધો નથી તો તમે કેમ રામાયણ કરો છો..’ તોહીદ સાથે બજાણિયા નટુભાઈ કે જેઓ કેટલાય વર્ષથી પ્લોટની માંગણી કરી રહ્યા હતા તેમણે પણ મામલતદારને સમજાવવાની કોશીશ કરી. પણ તેઓ કશું સાંભળવા જ તૈયાર નહોતા.

નટુભાઈ ખુબ હતાશ થઈ ગયા તેમણે છેલ્લુ કહ્યું, ‘સાહેબ તમે પણ વિચરતી જાતિના જ છો તમે અમારી સ્થિતિને નહીં સમજો તો કોણ સમજશે?’

પણ સાહેબને ક્યાં કશું સાંભળવું હતું. એમને તો બસ સરકારની જમીન આવા લોકો આવીને માંગી માંગીને લઈ જશે તો બિચારી સરકાર નાદાર થઈ જશે તેવું લાગી રહ્યું હતું. 

બાબુશાહીથી કાર્યકરો અને વિચરતી જાતિના આ પરિવારો થાકી જાય છે.સંસ્થાના કાર્યકરો તો બધા નિતીનિયમો જાણે છે છતાં તેમને હડધૂત કરવામાં આવે છે આવામાં વિચરતી જાતિના માણસો એકલા રજૂઆત માટે જાય તો કોણ જવાબ આપે? 

આ પરિવારો જે પરિસ્થિતિમાં રહે છે તે જોઈ શકાય છે.

VSSM organises a camp for nomadic families to file applications for U Win Card

The VSSM run  Bajaniya Boys hostel in Radhanpur recently organised a camp to file applications for U Win Cards  for the nomadic Bajaniyaa an Vansfoda families from  7 villages of Radhanpur and Santalpur blocks. The U Win Cards are for the labourers from unorganised sectors. During the camp applications for 200 U Win cards were filed.VSSM’s  Mohanbhai Bajaniyaa and the youth from the community played an important role in making this camp a success but one person whose contributed significantly during the camp is Somabhai Bajaniyaa a teacher from Bandhwad village and a leading volunteer. Somabhai also helps the children from the Bajaniya hostel with the challenges they face in their studies. He spends 2 houus every day with these students solving the difficulties they have. He also helps with the hostel management and ensures smooth functioning of the hostel. It is efforts of such youth that the we managed to file 200 applications.


During the camp 10 Vansfoda families living in Kukreja village of Harij block who did not have Voter ID cards had also come to seek help. Applications for their Voter ID cards were also filed.

પાટણના રાધનપુરમાં vssm સંચાલિત બજાણિયા કુમાર છાત્રાલયમાં vssm દ્વારા રાધનપુર અને સાંતલપુર તાલુકાના ૭ ગામોમાં રહેતાં વિચરતી જાતીમાંના બજાણીયા અને વાંસફોડા સમુદાયના વ્યક્તિઓને શ્રમ યોગી કાર્ડ – U win card મળે અએ માટેની અરજી કરવાં સંદર્ભે કેમ્પનું આયોજન કર્યું. જેમાં ૨૦૦ વ્યક્તિઓએ U win card માટે અરજી કરી.

કેમ્પમાં અરજી કરવામાં vssmના કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈને બજાણીયા સમુદાયના યુવાનો અને એમાં પણ બંધવડ ગામમાં શિક્ષક તરીકે ફરજ બજાવતાં સોમાભાઈ બજાણીયાએ વિશેષ મદદ કરી. સોમભાઈ હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણતાં બાળકોને રોજ સાંજે બે કલાક ભણાવે અને એ સિવાય પણ હોસ્ટેલ મનેજમેન્ટમાં સદાય મોખરે રહી મદદ કરે. આવા યુવાનો વિચરતા સમુદાય માટે આશાનું કિરણ છે અને યુવાનોના કારણે જ ૨૦૦ વ્યક્તિની અરજી કરવામાં vssmને સફળતા મળી.

કેમ્પમાં હારીજ તાલુકાના કુરેજા ગામમાં રહેતાં મતદારકાર્ડ વિહોણા ૧૦ વાંસફોડા વ્યક્તિ પણ આવ્યાં. આ વ્યક્તિઓને મતદાર કાર્ડ મળે એ માટેની અરજી પણ કેમ્પમાં કરવામાં આવી.
