In Anawada of Patan, on the banks of the Saraswati River, there is a gaushala (cow shelter). The shelter has separate enclosures for cows, bulls, calves, and young calves. Although the number of sick cows is high, it is clear that all of them are being well cared for.

We are planting and growing trees in the Anawada Gaushala.

We planted 2,300 trees in one plot and 1,500 trees in another plot of the gaushala. The trees are growing beautifully. The land is sandy, so there was some concern about whether they would grow, but the sacred feelings behind this work seem to be playing a role. These two local forests are supported by two very sacred individuals.

Respected Bipinbhai Shah – from the AnuhPharma family, originally from Patan, a family with noble intentions. With their help, we planted 2,300 trees. With the help of another respected individual, Viralbhai Vyas and his wife Heena Vyas, we planted 1,500 trees. The trees were provided by Jaybhai Shah from Mehsana. The arrangements for drip irrigation, digging the pits, and maintaining the trees were made through the help of these two dear friends associated with VSSM.

All three individuals are wonderful. They help with great love and care, which is why the planted trees are growing so well. We are grateful to all of you.

The individuals managing the gaushala, especially Respected Dineshbhai and other friends, are equally hardworking. Our tree friend, and the one who continuously supervises these sites, is our worker, Hiteshbhai. The effort of our workers Narayanbhai and Mohanbhai also plays a crucial role as they constantly visit and take care of the trees.

When we take care and supervise the trees, they grow well. The affection and attention are also important. When someone cares for them and asks about them, the trees thrive.

Together with VSSM and KRSF, we have planted more than 1.4 million trees, and they are growing magnificently. Many relatives have supported this work, and we are grateful to all.

We are pleased to have played a part in decorating Mother Earth with greenery.

પાટણના અનાવાડામાં સરસ્વતી નદીના કાંઠે ગૌશાળા. ગૌશાળામાં ગાયો, નંદી, આખલા અને વાછરડાના નોખા નોખા વાડા. બિમાર ગાયોની સંખ્યા ઘણી પણ આ બધાની સરસ માવજત લેવાઈ રહ્યાનું જોઈ શકાય.

અમે અનાવાડાની ગૌશાળામાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ.

ગૌશાળાના બે પ્લોટમાં ક્રમશઃ 2300 અને 1500 વૃક્ષો અમે વાવ્યા. વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. આમ તો જમીન રેતાળ એટલે થોડી ચિંતા પણ થાય કે ઉગશે કે કેમ પણ ક્યાંક પવિત્ર ભાવનાઓ પણ કામ કરે. આ બે ગ્રામ વન માટે અમને જેમણે મદદ કરી એ બેય બહુ પવિત્ર વ્યક્તિઓ.

આદરણીય બિપીનભાઈ શાહ – અનુહફાર્મા પરિવાર. મૂળ પાટણના વતની ને એકદમ ઉમદા ભાવનાવાળો પરિવાર. એમની મદદથી 2300 વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા ને બીજા આદરણીય વિરલભાઈ વ્યાસ અને તેમના પત્ની હીના વ્યાસની મદદથી 1500 વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. વૃક્ષો વાવવા આપ્યા મહેસાણાના જયભાઈ શાહે. ડ્રીપ, ખાડા, વૃક્ષની દેખરેખ માટે વૃક્ષ મિત્ર આ બધી ગોઠવણ VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા આ બેય સ્વજન મારફત કરી.

ત્રણે વ્યક્તિ મજાના. ખુબ ભાવથી મદદ કરે એટલે વાવેલા વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછરે. આપ સૌના અમે આભારી છીએ.

ગૌશાળાનું સંચાલન કરનાર સ્વજનો આદરણીય દિનેશભાઈ ને અન્ય મિત્રો પણ એવા જ ખંતીલા. અમારા વૃક્ષ મિત્ર અને સતત આ સાઈટોનું સુપરવિઝન કરે તે અમારા કાર્યકર હરેશભાઈની પણ મહેનત એટલે વૃક્ષો સરસ થાય. અમારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ અને મોહનભાઈ પણ સતત આવતા જતા રહે.

માવજત અને દેખરેખ રાખીએ તો વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછરે. વળી ભાવ પણ અગત્યનો. એનું જતન કરનાર, ખબર પુછનાર કોઈક છે એ વાતથી વૃક્ષ પણ રાજી થાય.

VSSM, KRSF સાથે મળીને 14 લાખથી વધારે વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા જે મજાની રીતે ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. આ કાર્યમાં અનેક સ્વજનોની મદદ મળી છે. સૌના આભારી છીએ.

"A unique village in Sabarkantha that nurtures trees with love. Entering the boundaries of Ghadi gam, you immediately realize that this village is environmentally conscious. The village has orchards of mangoes, jamun, and many other trees, along with a place for the 'Ram Ki Chidiya' (a type of bird) and 'Ram Ka Khet' (Ram's farm). The trees here are full of life, and the birds fill their bellies.

The mangoes and jamuns from the trees are a treat for everyone. There is no intention to profit from the sell of these trees; it’s all about the love and care for the environment.

In Ghadi gam, we were asked to help plant and nurture trees. With the help of the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation, we planted more than 4500 trees there. The trees, planted by the village's Kishorbhai Suthar, Piyushbhai Shukla, and other community members, are flourishing.

Our visit to the village was filled with warmth. Our volunteers, Tohidbhai and Maheshbhai, accompanied us to the village. The villagers gave us a warm welcome, and we met with underprivileged families in the village who are facing various hardships. After that, we took a tour of the Gramvan (village garden).

The village sarpanch (head), expressed the wish to plant even more trees next year. He said, “Let’s all work together for this cause…” What a noble thought!

May everyone, like Ghadi gam, make their village a green heaven, filled with trees.

સાબરકાંઠાનું ઘડી વૃક્ષો માટે મમતા રાખનારુ અનોખુ ગામ.

ઘડીગામની હદમાં પ્રવેશો કે તમને ખબર પડી જાય કે આ ગામ પર્યાવરણ પ્રેમી છે. ગામમાં આંબા, જાંબુની વાડિયો.ને પેલુ,

રામ કી ચિડીયા, રામ કા ખેત.

ખાલે ચિડીયા ભર ભર પેટ.

એમ આંબા પરની કેરીઓ ને જાંબુ સૌ કોઈ મન ભરીને ખાઈ શકે. પંચાયતની વેચાણ કરીને આવક લેવાની કોઈ જ ભાવના નહીં. 

ઘડીએ અમને ગામમાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવામાં મદદ કરવા કહ્યું. અમે ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન ની મદદથી ત્યાં 4500 થી વધુ વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. ગામના કિશોરભાઈ સુથાર અને પિયુષભાઈ શુકલ તેમજ અન્ય સ્વજનો ખડે પગે એટલે વાવેલા વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે.

ગામની ભાવના અમે ગ્રામવનની મુલાકાત લઈએ તેવી. અમારા કાર્યકર તોહીદભાઈ અને મહેશભાઈ સાથે અમે  ખાસ ઘડી પહોંચ્યા. પંચાયતમાં ગામના સૌ સ્વજનોએ સત્કાર કર્યો અને ગામમાં રહેતા વંચિત પરિવારો કે જેમને નાની મોટી પીડા છે તેમને મળવાનું થયું. એ પછી અમારા ગ્રામવનની મુલાકાત લીધી.

ગામના સરપંચ શ્રીએ કહ્યું, આવતા વર્ષે હજુ વધારે વૃક્ષો ગામમાં વવાય તેવી ઈચ્છા છે. આપણે સાથે મળીને આ કાર્ય કરીએ.. કેવી ઉમદા ભાવના...

બસ ઘડીની જેમ સૌ કોઈ પોતાના ગામને વૃક્ષ આચ્છાદિત કરે તેવી શુભભાવના..

To harm someone is violence. In my view, such a broad definition of violence cannot be accepted. There are also subtle forms of violence that we engage in. For example, making someone homeless is also violence. In the last hundred to one hundred fifty years, we have taken away the homes of millions—perhaps billions—of animals and birds. We have cut down trees and stripped them of their shelter. In my opinion, this is a very significant form of violence.

Humanity continues to strip countless people of their shelter, while trees and forests are still being cut down. We must try to compensate for the damage humanity has done to nature. We are currently working to plant 1.25 million trees in 125 villages, with the help of friends associated with VSSM.

In the cremation ground of the Thakore community in Ludra, Banaskantha, we planted over 5,000 trees three years ago with the help of Astral Pipes and the respected Tusharbhai Shah. The planted trees are growing beautifully. There was a time when the question was where to sit during cremations, but now there is shade everywhere in the cremation ground. Countless lives have made this place their home. You can also carry out such initiatives in your village; this will please nature.

કોઈને મારવું એજ હિંસા.. મારા ખ્યાલથી હિંસાનો આવો સ્થૂળ અર્થ ન કરી શકાય. કેટલીક સૂક્ષ્મ હિંસા પણ આપણે કરીયે...

દા.ત. કોઈને બેઘર કરી દેવું એ પણ હિંસા. પાછલા સો દોઢસો વર્ષમાં આપણે લાખો - કરોડો પશુ પક્ષીઓના ઘર છીનવી લીધા. વૃક્ષો કાપી તેમનો આશરો છીનવી લીધો છે.. મારા મતે આ બહુ મોટી હિંસા....

માનવજાત અસંખ્ય લોકોનો આશરો છીનવીને પણ ક્યાં અટકી હજુ વૃક્ષો- જંગલો કપાઈ જ રહ્યા છે. માનવજાતે પ્રકૃતિનું જે નુકશાન કર્યું તેને સરભર કરવા અમે કોશીશ કરીએ. 12.50 લાખ વૃક્ષો 125 ગ્રામવનોમાં વાવી ઉછેરવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ. એમાં VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મદદ કરે.

બનાસકાંઠાનું લુદ્રા - ઠાકોર સમાજની સ્મશાન ભૂમિમાં અમે 5000 થી વધારે વૃક્ષો એસ્ટ્રલ પાઈપ અને આદરણીય તુષારભાઈ શાહની મદદથી ત્રણેક વર્ષ પહેલા વાવ્યા. 

વાવેલા વૃક્ષો એકદમ સરસ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે.  એક સમય હતો સ્મશાનમાં મૃતદેહના અગ્નિ સંસ્કાર થતા હોય એ વખતે ક્યાં બેસવું એ સવાલ હતો આજે સ્મશાનમાં છાંયડો જ છાંયડો. અસંખ્ય જીવો સ્મશાનમાં પોતાનું ઘર બનાવ્યું. તમારા ગામમાં પણ તમે આવા કાર્યો કરી શકો.. એનાથી પ્રકૃતિ રાજી થશે...

Did you know that in the last 8 lakh years, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has not increased as much as it has in recent years? The atmosphere is getting polluted, and we are inhaling this polluted air every day.

The government and organizations like ours talk about creating oxygen parks and take pride in contributing to environmental improvement, but the reality is that such small efforts won’t be enough to fix the situation. To ensure that future generations can survive, millions of trees need to be planted—that is certain.

However, if everyone makes small efforts, improving the situation is not impossible. We are establishing gramvans (community forests) in North Gujarat. With the help of various volunteers, we are growing 1.25 million trees in 225 gramvans.

This year, the GIA company from Mumbai helped us plant 31,000 trees. With their support, we established a gramvan with over 10,000 trees in Changda village. The employees of GIA held a tree worship program at the cemetery, and everyone enthusiastically participated in planting trees.

In Changda village, a substantial amount was contributed for fencing. The largest contribution was made by the village's Shantibhai, who donated ₹100,000. When such enjoyable partnerships happen in the village, the work truly flourishes. Other villagers also helped in planting trees at the cemetery. The youth of the village assisted in building a water tank and installing steel poles for the cemetery as well.

Such community participation in collective efforts makes volunteers associated with organizations like VSSM happy when working on gramvan or water conservation projects. Moreover, when there’s partnership, accountability also increases.

This accountability was clearly visible in Changda. We are properly maintaining the gramvan of 12,000 trees established with the help of Rosy Blue Pvt. Ltd. Seeing their maintenance encouraged us to start another gramvan in the cemetery with the help of GIA.

The villagers have shown a commitment to plant 100,000 trees in their village and have promised to provide possible assistance. If every village prepares like Changda, our land will become green—that’s for sure.

GIA is not only helping with tree planting but also with water conservation efforts, for which we are very grateful.

તમને ખબર છે પાછલા 8 લાખ વર્ષોમાં વાતાવરણમાં જેટલો કાર્બન ડાયોક્સાઈડ ભેગો નહોતો થયો એટલો પાછલા કેટલાક વર્ષોમાં થયો.. વાતાવરણ પ્રદુષીત થઈ રહ્યું છે ને પ્રદુષણવાળી હવા આપણે રોજ શ્વાસો શ્વાસમાં લઈ રહ્યા છીએ.

સરકાર કે અમારા જેવી સંસ્થાઓ ઓક્સિજન પાર્ક બનાવ્યાની વાતો કરી પર્યાવરણને સુધારવામાં ક્યાંક નાનકડુ યોગદાન આપ્યાનો હરખ લે પણ સ્થિતિ આટલા નાનકડા કામથી સુધરવાની નથી એ હકીકત. આવનારી પેઢી હખેથી રહી શકે એ માટે  કરોડોની સંખ્યામાં વૃક્ષો વાવવા પડશે એ નક્કી..

જો કે સૌ નાનકડો પ્રયત્ન કરે રાખે તો સ્થિતિ સુધારવી અશક્ય પણ નથી. અમે ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં ગ્રામવનો ઊભા કરીએ. વિવિધ સ્વજનોની મદદ કરેલા 225 ગ્રામવનોમાં 12.50 લાખ વૃક્ષ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે ને ઘણા સ્વજનો આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરે છે.

મુંબઈની GIA કંપનીએ આ વર્ષે 31,000 વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવા અમને મદદ કરી. એમની મદદથી અમે બનાસકાંઠાના ચાંગડાગામમાં 10,000 થી વધુ વૃક્ષોનું ગ્રામવન કર્યું. GIA ના કર્મચારીગણના હાથે સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષ પૂજન કાર્યક્રમ રાખ્યો. સૌએ હોંશથી વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા.

ચાંગડા ગામે તાર ફ્રેન્સીંગ માટે ઘણી મોટી રકમ ફાળા પેટે આપી. સૌથી મોટુ અનુદાન ગામના શાંતીભાઈએ રૃા. 1 લાખનું આપ્યું. આવી મજાની ભાગીદારી ગામમાં થાય તો કામ કેવું દીપી ઊઠે.. સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વાવવા ગામના અન્ય સ્વજનોએ પણ એમનાથી શક્ય મદદ કરી. પાણીની ટાંકી બનાવવા તેમજ સ્મશાનમાં સ્ટીલની નનામી માટે પણ ગામના યુવાનોએ મદદ કરી.

સામૂહીક કાર્યો માટે ગામોની આવી સહભાગીતા થી ગામમાં ગ્રામવન કે જળસંચયના કાર્યો માટે મદદ કરનાર VSSM સાથે સંક્ળાયેલા સ્વજનો પણ રાજી થાય. વળી ભાગીદારી હોય તો જવાબદેહીતા પણ વધે... 

ચાંગડામાં આ જવાબદેહીતા બરાબર જોઈ. અમે રોઝી બ્લુ પ્રા લી. કંપનીની મદદથી કરેલું 12000 વૃક્ષોનું ગ્રામવન ગામ બરાબર સાચવે. એમની સાચવણી જોઈને જ આ બીજુ ગ્રામવન ગામના સ્મશાનમાં GIA  ની મદદથી કર્યું. 

ગામલોકોએ તો પોતાના ગામમાં 1 લાખ વૃક્ષો વાવવાની કટિબદ્ધતા દાખવી ને શક્ય મદદ પણ કરશેનું કહ્યું.

દરેક  ગામ ચાંગડા જેમ તૈયાર થાય તો આપણી ધરા હરિયાળી થઈ જાય.. એ નક્કી..

GIA એ વૃક્ષ વાવી ઉછેરવાની સાથે સાથે જળસંચયના કાર્યોમાં પણ એમને મદદ કરી રહ્યા છે એમનો ઘણો ઘણો આભાર..

We hope everyone learns from Yavarapura...

Valajibhai placed his hand on my head and said, "May God
give you the strength to carry out such works." 

Valajibhai, Sarpanch of Yavarapura Village, is a Wonderful Person

He is very active in developmental works of the village. During his tenure as Sarpanch, he has done admirable work. We all wish to have such a Sarpanch in every village.

In 2019, we planted and nurtured three thousand trees in the crematorium of Dhedhal, Banaskantha. Valajibhai saw those trees and requested Bharatbhai, the Sarpanch of Dhedhal, for our contact number to plant trees in the Yavarapura crematorium as well.

Besides Valaji, other young people in the village are also active. They cleared the entire crematorium of wild bushes and built a surrounding wall. They also arranged for water facilities. Later, with the help of the esteemed Krishnakant Mehta and Indira Mehta (uncle and aunty), we planted more than 5000 trees there. With their assistance, a small pond was also created in the crematorium. We are grateful for uncle and aunty’s love for nature.

When we started planting trees, we conducted a prayer ceremony and established the trees. This was in 2021.

I visited the crematorium again in 2024. Our workers, Narayanbhai and Maheshbhai, mentioned that the planted trees were growing well, but I hadn't visited since then. Recently, while passing through Deesa, I decided to visit Yavarapura. I called Valajibhai, and he joined me at the crematorium.

As soon as I entered the crematorium, I was delighted to see how well the trees had grown. The village maintained them wholeheartedly, not just for the sake of planting. It is heartening to see individuals and villagers with such dedication to tree maintenance.

Dineshbhai’s hard work as a tree friend is also evident in all of this. He spent the entire day at the crematorium, caring for the trees like children. Such dedication deserves our respect.

Valajibhai placed his hand on my head and said, "May God give you the strength to carry out such works." I felt blessed by his words.

The residents of Yavarapura never complained about the trees we planted. They arranged all necessary facilities for the growth of the trees on their own. Finding such villages brings us immense joy.

વાલાજીભાઈ યાવરપુરાગામના સરપંચ ને એકદમ મજાના માણસ.

ગામના વિકાસના કામો માટે એ એકદમ સક્રિય. સરપંચ તરીકેના એમના કાર્યકાળમાં એમણે ખુબ સુંદર કાર્ય કરી રહ્યા છે. આવા સરપંચ ગામે ગામ આપણે સૌ ઈચ્છીયે..

2019માં અમે બનાસકાંઠાના ઢેઢાલના સ્મશાનમાં અમે ત્રણ હજાર વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેર્યા. એ વૃક્ષોને એમણે જોયા ને એ વખતા ઢેઢાલના સરપંચ ભરતભાઈ પાસેથી નંબર મેળવી યાવરપુરાના સ્મશાનમાં પણ તમે વૃક્ષો વાવવા પધારો એવું કહ્યું.

વાલાજી સિવાય ગામના અન્ય યુવાનો પણ સક્રિય. આખી સ્મશાનભૂમીમાં ગાંડો બાવળ સાફ કર્યો ને ફરતા દિવાલ કરી. પાણીની સુવિધા પણ કરી.

એ પછી અમે આદરણીય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા ને ઈન્દીરા મહેતા (અંકલ આન્ટી)ની મદદથી ત્યાં 5000 થી વધારે વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. આ સ્મશાનમાં નાનકડી તલાવડી પણ એમની મદદથી કરી. અંકલ આન્ટીના પ્રકૃતિ પ્રેમ માટે એમના અમે આભારી છીએ.

વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું શરૃ કર્યું એ વખતે ત્યાં જવાનું થયેલું. અમે પૂજા કરીને વૃક્ષોનું સ્થાપન કરેલું.

આ વાત 2021ની..

એ પછી છેક 2024માં હું આ સ્મશાનભૂમીમાં ગઈ. વાવેલા વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછરી રહ્યાની વાત અમારા કાર્યકરો નારણભાઈ, મહેશભાઈ કરે એટલે જવાનું ન કર્યું. પણ હમણાં ડીસાથી નીકળતા યાવરપુરા આંટો મારી લઈએ એવું થયું ને વાલજીભાઈને ફોન કર્યો ને એ પણ પહોંચ્યા મુક્તિધામમાં..

મુક્તિધામમાં પ્રવેશતા જ વૃક્ષોનો જે રીતે ઉછેર થયો હતો એ જોઈને મન રાજી થઈ ગયું..

ખાલી વવડાવવા ખાતર નહીં પણ પૂર્ણ મનથી એની જાળવણી ગામે કરી. વૃક્ષો માટે આવી મમતા રાખનાર વ્યક્તિઓ, ગ્રામજનો મળે તો હૈયુ હરખાઈ જાય.

યાવરપુરા વાસીઓએ અમે વૃક્ષ વાવ્યા પછી ક્યારેય આ નથી તે નથી વગેરે જેવી ફરિયાદ નથી કરી. એમણે જે વૃક્ષ ઉછેર માટે જેની પણ જરૃર પડે એ તમામ વ્યવસ્થાઓ જાતે કરી.

આવા ગામો મળે તો અમને હરખ થાય.

By making frequent visits and spending time in the crematorium turned my mind Shivmay. In beginning death looked fearful. This is how most people feel, and I also felt the same way, but now I am fearless.

It is said that whoever is egoistic, arrogant should visit the crematorium. This helps explain the real situation. It was these visits that taught and explained that it is good to stay connected to the native land and use oneself for the welfare of society at large.

It is said that elders have a wealth of knowledge. Vajapur is small town of Bhabhar in Banaskantha district.We have planted more than 5000 trees in the cemetery. It happened that we went to see how the planted trees grew. At that time, while sitting under one of the neem trees we planted, we had good conversation about water and environment with the elders of the village. That time, an elderly uncle of the village blessed us to keep doing such good selfless work. With such divine blessings, mind was saturated with full of joy and happiness....

It's just a natural feeling that I always feel blessed with this life.....and thank God everyday for giving me such an opportunity to serve Him!

સ્મશાનમાં આ રીતે બેઠકો થવાથી, વારંવાર જવાથી મન જાણે શીવમય બન્યું. મત્યુથી પહેલાં ભય લાગતો. આમ તો મોટાભાગનાને લાગે જ મનેય લાગતો પણ હવે ભયમુક્ત થઈ છું..

કહે છે, જેને ગુમાન આવી જાય એને સ્મશાનની મુલાકાત લેવી. આ મુલાકાતોએ જ જમીન સાથે જોડાયેલા રહેવાનું ને પોતાની જાતને અન્યોના કલ્યાણમાં ઉપયોગી બનાવી શકાય તો એ ઉત્તમ.. એ શીખવ્યું, સમજાવ્યું.. 

કહે છે, વડિલો પાસે જ્ઞાનનો ભંડાર હોય.. વજાપુર બનાસકાંઠાના ભાભરનું મજાનું ગામ. સ્મશાનમાં અમે વડીલો સાથે બેઠા વાતો કરી. એક કાકાએ આવા સતકાર્યો કરતા રહોના આશિર્વાદ પણ આપ્યા... મન બસ આનંદીત આનંદીત... 

બસ આ જીવનથી ધન્યતા અનુભવુ છું..... ને રોજ કુદરતનો આભાર માનુ છું...

Ongoing Lake deepening work

Gadhaa Village in Sabarkantha District.

Availability of water is a big issue there. If the lake of the village gets filled then farmers get water from the well. It will help them to use the water for farming & cattle care purposes.

The villagers have been requesting us since last two years to desilt the lake as it had become quite shallow. The lake's capacity to store water had reduced.

VSSM employed the dredging JCB machine and villagers helped in lifting the soil. The soil removed from the lake was used to repair the road alongside the lake. The good soil was used by the farmer for their farms. In the spirit of co-operation the work of desilting got underway.

Shri Chandravadan Shantilal Shah of Mumbai provided us the financial support for this work.

After desilting, the capacity of the lake to hold water increased The wells which used to get empty by February will have water for a longer time.

The water scarcity is a big issue in many parts of the world. In North Gujarat too water is scarce. In many villages, Narmada Dam has helped water becoming available. We wish that every village will have sufficient water but till that happens every lake, well, ponds, borewells will have to be kept in proper condition. We will also have to be very disciplined in our use of water. Every drop will have to be saved.

સાબરકાંઠાનું ગઢા ગામ.

પાણીની ત્યાં ઘણી વિપદા. ગામનું તળાવ ભરાય તો ખેડૂતોના કૂવામાં પાણી આવે. ખેડૂતો કૂવાના પાણીથી ખેતી અને પશુપાલન કરે. 

ગામનું મુખ્ય તળાવ ગાળવા ગામલોકો પાછલા બે વર્ષથી અમને વિનંતી કરે. મૂળ તો તળાવ છીછરુ થઈ ગયેલું એટલે પાણી ભરાવવાની ક્ષમતા ઓછી થઈ ગયેલી.

VSSM એ જેસીબી મશીન મુક્યુ ને ગામલોકોએ માટી ઉપાડવાનું કર્યું. તળાવમાંથી નીકળેલી માટીથી ગામલોકોએ સીમના રસ્તા રીપેર કર્યા. સારી માટી ખેડૂતોએ એમના ખેતરમાં નાખી. આમ સહભાગીતાથી તળાવનું કામ શરૃ કર્યું.

મુંબઈમાં રહેતા આદરણીય ચંદ્રવદનભાઈ શાંતિલાલ શાહે અમને આ તળાવ ગાળવા આર્થિક ટેકો કર્યો જેના લીધે તળાવ ઊંડુ કરી શકાયું.

તળાવ ઊંડુ થતા પાણી ધારણ કરવાની ક્ષમતા વધી. ગામલોકોના કૂવા જે ફેબ્રુઆરીમાં ખાલી થઈ જતા તે લાંબો સમય સુધી ભરાયેલા રહેશે..

પાણીની મુશ્કેલી દેશ દુનિયાના ઘણા વિસ્તારોમાં પડી રહી છે. ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં પણ કિલ્લત છે. ઘણા ગામોમાં સરકારે નર્મદા, ધરોઈ ડેમના પહોંચાડ્યા છે. આશા રાખીએ દરેક ગામમાં પાણી પહોંચે પણ ન પહોંચે ત્યાં સુધી હાથવગા આપણા વાસણો એવા તળાવ, કૂવા, વાવ, રીચાર્જ બોરવેલ ટૂંકમાં પાણી બચાવવા જે પદ્ધતિ અપનાવવી પડે તે અપનાવી પાણીના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવીએ...

“Ben, we believe in actions, not just words. When you had first visited this crematorium to discuss the tree plantation drive, you had apprehensions if we would have the same enthusiasm in raising the trees as much as we had in planting them. And we had requested you to trust us with it. Now tell us if we have been able to uphold that trust?”

Chandubhai from Banaskantha’s Ludra village asks us. Chandubhai is now the Sarpanch of Ludra, but when we began the plantation drive, he was a very enthusiastic local leader. 

With the support from Estral Pipes and Mumbai based Tusharbhai – Jyotiben, we planted more than 5000 trees at Ludra’s Thakor community crematorium.

It has been more than nine months, and as seen in the image these  trees are flourishing well. The back-breaking effort by Vriksh Mitr – Balvant Kaka and the personal attention of the community leaders have helped the trees to  grow well.

Even the Thakor community of Ludra has paid personal attention to keeping the plantation site clean and weed-free to help the trees grow well.

Along with bringing saplings and planting them, VSSM supports the remuneration of Vriksh Mitra and makes arrangements for drip irrigation. It also bears occasional expenses of pesticides etc. At the same time, the onus of clearing the site remains on the community.

Our team consisting of Naranbhai, Maheshbhai and Hareshbhai work very hard to ensure the trees are looked after, and it is their efforts that have helped helps bring success to such actions. 

These woodlands result from the partnership between VSSM and communities; imagine the number of forests we would be able to create if the also government joins in. We are working towards roping the support of  Banaskantha government and administration. We are on our way to finding some success with it. Hopefully, soon we shall have some successful outcomes from our combined efforts.

'બેન ખાલી વાતો નહીં અમે કરી બતાવવામાં માનીએ... તમે પહેલીવાર અમારા સ્મશાનમાં આવેલા અને  એ વખતે  વૃક્ષ ઉછેર બાબતે વાત  થઈ હતી ત્યારે તમે કહેલું કે, હાલ ઉત્સાહ બતાવો છો પણ એવો ઉત્સાહ વૃક્ષ વાવ્યા પછી એની જાણવણીમાં બતાવશો? અને અમે બધાએ હા પાડી અમારામાં વિશ્વાસ મુકવા કહેલું. તો આજે હવે ક્યો તમારો વિશ્વાસ અમે જાળવ્યો કે નહીં?'

બનાસકાંઠાના લુદ્રાગામના સરપંચ જો કે સરપંચ અમે ગ્રામવન ઊભુ કર્યા  પછી બન્યા એવા ચંદુભાઈએ કહ્યું..

ઠાકોર સમાજની સ્મશાનભૂમીમાં અમે એસ્ટ્રલ પાઈપ અને મુંબઈમાં રહેતા તુષારભાઈ - જ્યોતીબહેનની મદદથી 5000થી વધુવૃક્ષો વાવ્યા... 

આમ તો વૃક્ષ વાવે નવેક મહિનાનો સમય થયો હશે પણ વાવેલા બધા કેવા સરસ ઉછર્યા એ ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.       

વૃક્ષમિત્ર  તરીકે કાર્ય કરતા બળવંતકાકાએ  કરેલી કાળી મજૂરી આપણને દેખાય. એમની મહેનતના લીધે અને ઠાકોર સમાજના આગેવાનોની દેખરેખના લીધે વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે.

વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા પછી વર્ષમાં ત્રણ થી ચાર વાર વૃક્ષોની વચ્ચેની જગ્યામાં સરસ ખેડ થાય તો વૃક્ષોનો ઉછેર સારો થાય.. લુદ્રાગામની આ સ્મશાનભૂમી જેમની છે તે લોકોએ સાથે મળીને  સફાઈનું બરાબર ધ્યાન રાખ્યું.

અમે વૃક્ષમિત્રને પગાર આપીએ. સાથે પાણી માટે ડ્રીપની વ્યવસ્થા કરીએ.  એ ઉપરાંત નાનો  મોટો ખર્ચ દવાઓ વગેરે કરવાનો કરીએ. હા વૃક્ષો લાવી વાવવાનું અમે કર્યું. ગામે સ્મશાનમાંથી ગાંડો બાવળ કાઢ્યો...

વૃક્ષ ઉછેર  માટે સતત મથતી અમારી ટીમ નારણભાઈ,મહેશભાઈ અને હરેશભાઈની પણ આ બધામાં જબરી મહેનત.. તેમની સતત દેખરેખથી આ બધુ સફળ પાર પડ્યું. 

આમ ગામની સહભાગીથી અમે આ કર્યું. આ કાર્યમાં સરકાર પણ જોડાય તો ગામે ગામ સરસ જંગલો ઊભા થઈ જાય... સરકાર ખાસ તો  બનાસકાંઠાનું વહીવટીતંત્ર અને વન વિભાગ અમારી સાથે જોડાય તેવા પ્રયત્નો છે અને એ પ્રયત્નો સફળ પણ થઈ રહ્યા છે..આગામી દિવસો આ પ્રયત્નોના સફળ પરિણામો પણ જોઈ શકીશું...
