Ramilaba works in making ICs

Diwali has arrived, and all of us have started preparing for the festival…

We have around seven hundred fifty elderly men and women who have no one to look after them. So, to brighten their Diwali as well, we all come together and give them sweets, extra jaggery, semolina, and other items, so that they too can celebrate Diwali.

Ramilaben, who lives in Vinoba Bhave Nagar in Ahmedabad, had her mother with her until recently, and she was her emotional support.

She works in making ICs (integrated circuits) used in modern technology.

For assembling various components used in ICs, she gets paid 10 paise per piece, and her monthly income is around three thousand rupees.

She lives in a rented house, and the rent itself is three and a half thousand rupees.

We helped her by filling out the forms required for her to receive old-age pension…

When we met her for Diwali, she began sharing her life stories, which we will upload on YouTube.

 દિવાળી આવી ગઈ છે આપણે બધા દિવાળીની તૈયારીઓમાં લાગી ગયા છીએ...

અમારા સાડા સાતસો બા-દાદા કે જેમની આગળ પાછળ કોઈ નથી અમે તેમની દિવાળી પણ સુધરે તે માટે બધાને મળીને દિવાળી નિમિત્તે મીઠાઇ, વધારે ગોળ, સોજી અને ગોળ વગેરે આપીએ કે જેથી તેઓ પણ દિવાળી ને ઉજવી શકે

અમદાવાદનાં વિનોબાભાવે નગરમાં રહેતા રમીલાબેન આમની મમ્મી હતા ત્યાં સુધી તેમણે માનસિક સહારો હતા.

તેઓ અત્યારની ટેકનોલોજીમાં વપરાતા આઇસી બનાવવાનું કાર્ય કરે.

આઈસીમાં લગાવવામાં આવતા વિવિધ કમ્પોનેંટ્સના 10 પૈસા લેખે આપે અને તેમની મહિનાની કમાણી થાય ત્રણ હજાર રૂપિયા. બ જે ભાડાના ઘરમાં રહે તેનું ભાડું સાડા ત્રણ હજાર.

તેમને વૃદ્ધ પેન્શન મળે માટે અમે તેનું ફોર્મ વગેરે ભરવાનું કર્યું...

આ દિવાળી નિમિત્તે મળ્યા તો તેઓ એમના કિસ્સાઓ કહેવા લાગ્યા. જે અમે યુટ્યુબમાં મૂકીશું.

After 6 years of representation, 120 nomadic families were recently sanctioned residential plots in Visnagar...

Mittal Patel visited these families to see the alloted land 

“If you cannot find a solution to our problem, tell us so. But please don’t ask us to be patient, how long do we need to remain patient?”

“Who are you?”

“My name is Natubhai. I have called up to convey that  you just make promises but don’t work towards fulfilling those promises!”

“What work?”

“In Visnagar, the government destroyed our shanties, we complained to you regarding the same. It has been four years but you have not taken any action.”

“You are right, but our work is to inform the government  and continue to follow up until the issue is redressed. We have been following up your case with the government. We are confident that one day all of you will have an address to call home.”

“Leave it, you will  not be able to do anything!”

“I am no the Chief Minister of Gujarat, nor am I an official authorised to issue residential plots. My job is to represent your issues to the concerned authorities and I will continue to follow it up until it has been solved.”

But Natukaka was not prepared to listen me out, he continued to spew in anger. It did annoy me,  but I allowed him to vent out his anger. He did not know I was not  part of any government.

After 6 years of representation, Natukaka and 120 families were recently sanctioned residential plots in Visnagar. On insistence of these families I paid them a visit, to see the allotted land as well as  discuss about the construction of houses on the allotted land.

“Ben, I am Natubhai!” Kaka introduced himself after walking up to me.

I smiled.

“I was a little drunk that day, the frustration of moving with bags and baggage made me shout at you.”

“You can vent our your anger, Kaka. I have not taken it to my heart.”

Natukaka and his wife live alone, on their own as they do not have any children to depend on. Growing age had impacted their ability to work.  After our Tohid and Rizwan recommended,   we provided a monthly ration kits to them. But on meeting Kaka I told him, “Kaka, you will still be able to work for a year or so. Start a vegetable cart along with a weighing scale. We will provide you with weighing scale. It would not have been possible for you to find work if you had been staying in a village. However, it will be easy for you to sell vegetables in Visnagar. How about accepting charity only when your body refuses to work?”

“I agree with you completely, but I don’t have funds to buy a hand-cart. Can you buy it for me?”

Natukaka refused to accept the ration kit for the second month. This month, we will buy him a hand cart.

Many have asked about my learnings of working with this society.  

Each day I  learn something new. My interaction with Natukaka taught me humility.

 I hope the government works hard to fulfil our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s dream of housing for all the homeless by the end of 2022. Recently, the families living in Bavla experienced the same plight as the families of Visnagar. And this was not for the first time, it has happened twice before. We have also filed applications for allotment of plots to these families. Hopefully, they soon receive plots.  

'તમારાથી ના થાય તો ના પાડી દો પણ ઓમ ધીરજ રાખો ધીરજ રાખો ક્યો સો તે મોણસ ચો હુદી ધીરજ રાખ?'

'તમે કોણ?'

'હું કોણ તે નટુભઈ.. તમે ખાલી વાયદા જ કરો. કોમ બોમ તમારાથી ના થાય'

'શું કામ?'

'વીસનગરમાં અમારા છાપરાં સરકારે તોડ્યા. એ વખતે તમન રજૂઆત કરેલી. પણ ઈન ચાર વરહ થ્યા તમે કોય ના કર્યું.. '

વાત સાચી પણ અમારુ કામ સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરવાનું ને જ્યાં સુધી કામ ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી એની પાછળ રહેવાનું અને એ અમે કરી રહ્યા છીએ. વળી તમને સરનામુ મળશે. એવો મને વિશ્વાસ છે'

'કોય ના થાય તમારાથી...'

'હું રાજ્યની મુખ્યમંત્રી કે પ્લોટ આપવા માટે જવાબદાર અધિકારી નથી, કે નથી મારા હાથમાં કોઈ સત્તા હું તો માત્ર રજૂઆત કરી શકુ અને એ રજૂઆત કામ પૂર્ણ ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી હું કરીશ'

પણ નટુકાકાને મારુ ક્યાં સાંભળવું હતું. એ તો ઘણુંયે અનાપસનાપ બોલ્યા. એ વખતે તો મને ગુસ્સો પણ આવેલો પણ પછી થોડુ વિચારતા એમનો બળાપો સાચો હોવાનું લાગ્યું. હું સરકાર નથી એ વાત એ ક્યાં જાણે..

હમણાં નટુકાકાને એમની સાથેના 120 પરિવારોને લગભગ છ વર્ષની મહેનત પછી વિસનગરમાં રહેવા જમીન ફળવાઈ. લોકોનો આગ્રહ એટલે ફળવાયેલી જમીન જોવા ગઈ મૂળ ઘર કેવા બાંધીશું તેની ચર્ચા જ કરવા. ત્યાં કાકા ધીરે રહીને મારી પાસે આવ્યા ને કહ્યું, 

'બેન હું નટુભઈ...'

મે સરસ સ્મીત કર્યું.. કાકા કે, 'એ વખતે થોડુ પી ગ્યો'તો એટલે બોલાઈ જ્યું. રોજ લબાચા લઈને ઓમથી તેમ ખસેડવાનું થાય એટેલ...'

'તમે બોલી જ શકો કાકા.. મને માઠુ નથી લાગ્યું...'

નટુકાકા ને એમના પત્ની બેઉ એકલા રહે. નિસંતાન. ઉંમર થઈ કામ બહુ થાય નહીં. એટલે અમારા તોહીદ અને રીઝવાને કાકાને દર મહિને રાશનકીટ આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. તે અમે કીટ આપી. 

પણ કાકાને મળ્યા પછી મે કહ્યું,  'કાકા હજુ એકાદ વર્ષ મહેનત થાય એમ છે. તમે શાકભાજીની લારી કરો. લારી ને વજનકાંટો, વજનિયા અમે આપીએ. તમે ગામડાંમાં રહેતા હોત તો કામ ન મળત. પણ વીસનગરમાં રહો છો તો શાકભાજી વેચવાનું થઈ શકશે. જ્યારે હાથ પગ સાવ ના પાડે ત્યારે ધર્માદુ લઈએ તો કાકા?'

'તમારો વિચાર એકદમ બરાબર. લારી માટે પૈસા નથી તમે લઈ આપો હું ધંધો કરીશ..'

આમ એક રાશનકીટ લીધા પછી બીજી લેવાની એમણે ના પાડી. લારી તો આ મહિનામાં લઈ આપીશું.

 ઘણા પુછે સમાજ સાથેના કામે તમને શું શીખવ્યું?

હું કહુ છુ નીત ઘણું શીખુ છુ.. જેમ કે નટુકાકાના એક ફોને મને વિનમ્રતા શીખવી...

પણ હા આપણા વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ 2022માં તમામ ઘરવિહોણાને ઘર આપવાનું સ્વપ્ન સેવ્યું છે. સરકાર એમાં વધુ મહેનત કરે એમ ઈચ્છીશ. 

હમણાં જ બાવળામાં વિચરતી જાતિના કેટલાય પરિવારો જેઓ વર્ષોથી બાવળામાં જ રહેતા તેમના છાપરાં તૂટ્યા.. વળી આ છાપરાં એક વખત નહીં પણ ત્રણ વાર ખસ્યા અને તુટ્યા...આ પરિવારોનું પુનઃવસન થાય તે માટે વિધીસર દરખાસ્તો થઈ ગઈ છે. બસ સત્વરે કાર્યવાહી થાય એ માટે સરકારને વિનંતી....

Mittal Patel asking Sadik to give up smoking

 “Because you are asking me to, I give up smoking bidi from today!”

“This won’t convince me, take a vow!”

“Your word is our command, Ben. Yet if you insist I vow in the name of our community Goddess.”

And Sadik broke into pieces the bidi pack he was carrying with him.

“If you break your pledge the Goddess will be really angry.”

“Oh Ben, trust me, when I have committed to you, I will not break the pledge till the end of my life.”

“Think twice before committing, you cannot break Ben’s trust.” Sadik’s wife who was standing next to us  warned him.

Sadik and his wife have worked hard, borrowed money to buy a plot with a  dream to build a house upon it.

VSSM, with the support from its well-wishers  and  Government assistance  has helped 29 families of Chapi build houses of their own.  Sadik happened to see these houses coming up and approached us for some help. If you help me, I too will be able to build my own house,” he had shared while requesting for support.

“Why should we help you when you have enough money to waste on  bidi?” I had questioned him when he had come to meet us with this request, with bidi in hand. As I always do, I  gave him a long lecture on these life threatening habits. In his response to my lecture, Sadik pledged to leave smoking bidi.

Since the well-being of these humans is dear to me, I take the liberty to scold them if required. But what is important here is the right they  have given me to rebuke them. It truly is a blessings to have such dear ones. 

'તમે કો'છો તે આજથી આ બીડી મેલી..'

'એમ ન માનું. ખાવ તમારી માતાના હમ..'

'તમન કીધુ એટલે પતી જ્યું બુન તોય વિસવા ના આવતો હોય તો લો મા જોગણી ના હમ'

એમ કહીને સાદીકે બીડીની ઝૂડી મારી સામે તોડી મે કહ્યું,

'જો જો વચન તોડશો તો મા જોગણી તમને ઝાલશે હો...'

'મારી બુન તમન એક ફેરા કઈ દીધુ પસી બધુ આઈ જ્યું..'

સાદીક બોલી રહ્યો હતો ત્યારે એની ઘરવાળી એની બાજુમાં ઊભી હતી એણે કહ્યું,

 'જોઈ વિચારન્ વચન આલજે હો બુન આગળ ખોટા પડીએ એ ના ચાલ..' સાદીક ને એની ઘરવાળીએ મહેનત મજુરી કરીને અને થોડા ઘણા ઉછીના પાછીના કરીને છાપીમાં ઘર બાંધવા પ્લોટ ખરીદેલો. 

મૂળ #છાપીમાં #વિચરતી_જાતિના 29 પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવામાં સરકારની સહાય ઉપરાંત #VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મદદ કરે. આ પરિવારોના બંધાતા ઘર જોઈને સાદીકને સરકાર ને સંસ્થા મનેય મદદ કરે તો મારુયે ઘર થઈ જાય એવી લાગણી થઈ. તે આ વાત કરવા એ આવ્યો ને હાથમાં બીડી જોઈ મે એને બીડી પીવા પૈસા છે તો અમે શું કામ મદદ કરીએ વગેરે કહીને ટેવ પ્રમાણે લાંબુ લેક્ચર આપ્યું જવાબમાં સાદીકે બીડી છોડી..

આ બધા વહાલા છે એટલે એમને વઢી શકુ.. 

પણ અગત્યનું એમણે આ અધિકાર આપ્યો એ છે...કુદરતની કૃપા હોય તો જ આવા સ્વજનો મળે.. એ રીતે હું નસીબદાર

Gulabbhai his wife and brother Salim came to VSSM

 “Ben, our Bhodadwala Gulabbhai has met with an accident. He was driving at night and could not see the tractor carrying steel rods. The rods pierced in his stomach. We took him around to 3 hospitals, borrowed money to spend on his treatment, have already spent Rs. 70,000 but he is not recovering.” Musabhai called up to share the news and seek some help. We asked him to bring Gulabbhai to Ahmedabad. We arranged for his treatment and Kiran awaited his arrival at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.  

Gubalbhai was unconscious when the ambulance carrying him reached Ahmedabad at 10 in the night. Kiran immediately got busy with arranging for a blood test, sonography, CT Scan, ECG etc. it was almost 4 in the morning by the time the required screening was completed. Gulabbhai’s wife and brother Salim were at the hospital, but it was hard for them to comprehend these pre-operative requirements. They had trust in us so remained calm and watched the proceedings. At 5 in the morning, Gulabbhai was taken into the operation theatre. The operation lasted for 6 hours, but it was all well at the end of it. 

The timely surgery helped save Gulabbhai’s life, he remained in ICU for two days after which he was moved to a general ward. He was recovering well when his health took a downturn after he tested positive for Covid 19. Since his immunity was low he was kept in the ICU for 5 days, the doctors remained perseverant and Gulabhai was out of danger soon. He was discharged recently after being in the hospital for 20 days. 

 Gulabbhai was at the office to express his gratitude, since I was unwell during that time I spoke to him recently. 

 “You all saved my life. Otherwise, I had lost hope. Salim took me to Dholka where I was kept there for two days, given IV medicines, spent Rs. 70,000 but my condition did not improve. There were blood clots around my stomach. The doctor referred us to a bigger hospital, but we had no money to seek treatment at a bigger hospital. We had spent whatever we had at Dholka. Whilst we were struggling to find a way forward, the thought of you crossed our mind. And look how you saved me. I am alive and able. I can walk across four farms. Kiranbhai has been a great help, he stood with us throughout. 

 I wonder why the doctors at Dholka hospital failed to understand the gravity of Gulabhai’s condition. We are grateful that he is alive!! We merely played our role of bridging the gap to help access proper medical treatment to those in need under the Sanjivani Arogya Setu initiative. 'બેન આપણા ભોળાદવાળા ગુલાબભાઈને અકસ્માત થયો છે. રાતના બાઈક લઈને ઘરે જતા રસ્તામાં સળિયા ભરેલું ટ્રેક્ટર દેખાયું નહીં ને પેટમાં સળિયા ઘુસી ગયા.. ત્રણ દવાખાના ફર્યા ઉછીના પાછીના કરીને 70,000નો ખર્ચ કર્યો પણ તબીયત બગડી રહી છે...'

મુસાભાઈએ ફોન પર આ કહ્યું. અમે ગુલાબભાઈને અમદાવાદ તેડી લાવવા કહ્યું. અમારો  કિરણ અમદાવાદ સીવીલ હોસ્પીટલમાં એમની વાટ જોઈને ઊભો.

બેભાન ગુલાબભાઈને લઈને એમ્બ્યુલન્સ રાતના 10 વાગે આવી પહોંચી.  

કિરણે ઝડપથી સારવાર માટે પ્રયત્નો આદર્યા ને બ્લડ રીપોર્ટ, સોનોગ્રાફી, સીટીસ્કેન, ઈસીજી વગેરે બધુ તાબડતોડ થયું.. આમ તો રીપોર્ટને બધુ પતાવતા સવારના 4 વાગ્યા. ગુલાબભાઈના પત્ની ને એમના ભાઈ સલીમ ભાઈને તો ડોક્ટર શું કહે છે આ બધુ શું થઈ રહ્યું છે કશુંયે સમજાય નહીં. પણ અમારા પર એમને ભરોષો.. આખરે સવારના 5 વાગે એમને ઓપરેશન થીયેટરમાં ખસેડ્યા...ઓપરેશન 5 થી 11 ચાલ્યું.. પણ બધુ હેમખેમ પત્યું... 

ગુલાબભાઈનો જીવ બચી ગયો. બે દિવસ ICUમાં રહ્યા બાદ જનરલ વોર્ડમાં શીફ્ટ કર્યા. તબીયત સરસ થઈ રહી ત્યાં અચનાક તબીયત બગડી તેમનો કોરોના રીપોર્ટ પોઝેટીવ આવ્યો..એક તો બિમાર, રોગ પ્રતિકારક શક્તિ પણ નબળી. ફરી ICUમાં 5 દિવસ..પણ ડોક્ટરોની મહેનતથી એ હેમખેમ બહાર આવ્યા. 20 દિવસ હોસ્પીટલમાં રહ્યા.. હમણાં એમને રજા મળી.. 

હું બિમાર હતી ઓફીસ નહોતી પણ એ ઓફીસ પર આવ્યા આભાર માનવા.. 

મારી તબીયત ઠીક થઈ એટલે આજે એમને ફોન કર્યો. 

ગુલાબભાઈ કહે, 'તમે બધાએ મને બચાવ્યો. નકર હું તો આશા જ ખોઈ બેઠો'તો. મને વાગ્યું એટલે સલીમ મને ધોળકા દવાખાને લઈ ગ્યો. ત્યાં બે દિવસ રાખ્યો. બાટલા ચડાયા. 70,000નો ખર્ચ થયો. પણ તબીયતમાં ફેર ના પડે. પેટમાં લોઈ જામી ગયું'તુ.  બે દિ પછી  ડોક્ટરે કહ્યું હવે મોટા દવાખાને લઈ જાવ.. પણ મોટા દવાખાને જવા પૈસાની સગવડ ક્યાં હતી. જે હતું એ બધુ પતી ગયું...પણ ખરા ટાણે તમે યાદ આવ્યા ને જુઓ આજે હું જીવતો છુ ચાર ખેતરવા ચાલી શકુ એવી તબીયત થઈ ગઈ હવે.. કિરણભાઈએ બહુ ધોડા કીધા... '

ધોળકા જે દવાખાનામાં ગુલાબભાઈ બે દિવસ રહ્યા એમણે ગુલાબભાઈની તબીયતની આટલી ગંભીરતા કેમ ન સમજી એ મને હજુયે નથી સમજાતું. ખેર એ બચ્યા એ અગત્યનું...બાકી અમે તો નિમિત્ત બન્યા..  

કોઈને યોગ્ય તબીબી સારવાર મળે તે માટે અમે સંજીવની આરોગ્ય સેતુ અને સહાય કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત બ્રીજની ભૂમિકા ભજવીયે.. આ ભૂમિકા બનવામાં મદદ કરનાર ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ, ઈન્દિરા આંટીનો આભાર...

Mittal Patel handed over caste certificates to 143 nomadic
families

Many nomadic families stay over the government wasteland in Morbi. Our team members Kanubhai and Chayaben work round the clock to help these families attain the documents of their identity, link them to the benefits of various government schemes for poverty elevation and much more. Our efforts received government support enabling us speed up the work. The district administration led by the respected District Collector remains on toes to address the issues of these communities.

Recently, I had the opportunity to hand over caste certificates to 143 nomadic families, very soon these families will also be allotted residential plots.

We are grateful to the officials and administration for their support, our well-wishers who are constantly by our side. It means a world to us!

મોરબી તાલુકામાં વિચરતી જાતિઓના ઘણા પરિવારો સરકારી પડતર અને ખરાબાની જમીનમાં રહે...

આ બધાને રહેવા જમીન, અનાજ મળે તેવું રેશનકાર્ડ ને સૌથી અગત્યનું વંચિતોના કલ્યાણ અર્થે બનાવેલી સરકારની કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાઓની મદદ મળે તે માટે જોઈતું જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર મળે તે માટે અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ, છાયાબહેન ઘણું મથે..

પણ અમારી મથામણમાં સરકારી ટેકો ભળ્યો ને કામ ઝડપથી થવા માંડ્યું.. 

મોરબીનું સમગ્ર વહીવટીતંત્ર આદરણીય કલેક્ટર શ્રી જે બી પટેલની અધ્યક્ષતામાં વંચિતોના કાર્યો માટે ખડે પગે...

મોરબીમાં રહેતા વિચરતીજાતિના પરિવારો ને જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર આપવાનો મોકો મળ્યો. આમાંના 143 પરિવારોને ટૂંક સમયમાં રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ પણ ફળવાશે.

આમ જુઓ તો આમાં અમે નિમિત્ત માત્ર..

પણ મદદ કરનાર સૌ અધિકારીગણ, સ્વજનોનો આભાર.. આપે મદદ ન કરી હોત તો આ બધુ ક્યારેય સંભવ થવાનું નહોતું.

Mittal Patel meets Hansaben 

“Hansaben, will you feed me?”

Hanasaben did not respond to my question, she did not even blink as she kept watching me. 

“She has difficulties with hearing!” Chayaben tells me. 

“Didi is asking will you feed her?” Chayaben repeated my question to Hansaben. 

“Of course. Will feed her Dal-Bhaat and Shaak!” Hansaben gave a gentle smile and responded with a stammer. 

Hansaben wears a very calming smile, it was she stood with us while we talked for about 10 minutes. 

Hansaben, a resident of Rajkot’s Kubaliyapara must have been God’s favourite child, so were her 2 sons. They all begged as means to feed themselves. All three of them intellectually weak, they found difficulties with finding work and bothered the least about the world at large. The sons she had raised on begged food, continued begging as they grew. 

Setting out to beg at the beginning of the day was a daily ritual the trio followed. One day one of her sons did not return home, Hansaben kept searching for him but how would she have conveyed with her speech disability. How would she have convinced herself that her son is gone!? The wound of losing the first son was still fresh and the second son left the nest. The same search followed but in vain…

Hansaben also began forgetting her way back home, for hours she would remain seated at one place. Residents of the settlement would bring her back and leave her at the shanty she called home. 

Along with the fellow residents of Kubliyapara, we applied for a residential plot for Hansaben. The Kubaliyapara residents were allotted a plot at Ramparabeti. When the residents shifted their base to Ramparatbeti they also brought Hansaben along. 

It was difficult to sustain on begging in Ramparabeti as the living condition of the residents is not sound enough to give away food to people in need. We had not known about Hansaben’s existence it was Jeevabhai and Dungarbhai who lead our attention to Hansaben. 

The government assistance for building a decent house was substantiated by our dear Krishnakant Uncle and Indira Auntie, who donated Rs. 1.05 lacs to provide Hansaben with a proper roof over her head. 

The highest priority for Hansaben was ration, under the Maavjat program VSSM began supporting her with a monthly ration kit. The women in the neighbourhood help Hansaben prepare her meals. 

VSSM supports 150 needy elders with ration kits. Many of our well-wishers have chosen to become sponsors of elders in need. It is your support and well-wishes that enables us to meet the needs of thousands of families in need.

 'હંસાબહેન મને જમાડશો?'

મારી વાતનો હંસાબહેને કોઈ પ્રત્યુત્તર ન આપ્યો. એ અનિમેષ નજરે મને જોઈ રહ્યા.. 

અમારા છાયાબહેને મને કહ્યું, 'એમને ઓછુ સંભળાય છે..' એ પછી છાયાબહેને જ કહ્યું, 'દીદી પુછે છે તમે એમને જમાડશો?'

થોડું હસીને થોથવાતી જીભે એમણે કહ્યું, 'હા દાળ ભાત અને બટાકાનું શાક ખવડાવીશ..'

અમે એમની સાથે દસેક મીનીટ ઊભી રહ્યા. અમે ઘણું બોલ્યા ને એ બસ સુંદર સ્મિત સાથે અમારી સામે ઊભા રહ્યા.. હંસાબહેન ભગવાનના માણસ ને એમનું સ્મિત પણ નિજાનંદી. આમ તો તેમના બેય દીકરા પણ તેમના જેવા જ. દુનિયા સાથે આ ત્રણેયને ઝાઝી લેવા દેવા નહીં. 

હંસાબહેન રાજકોટના કુબલિયાપરામાં રહેતા. માનસીક સ્થિતિ નબળી ને કામ કરવાની સુઝ નહીં તે ભીખ માંગીને ખાય. બે દિકરાઓ પણ ભીખમાં માંગેલા ખાવાનાથી જ એમણે મોટા કર્યા. દીકરા પણ મોટા થતા માંગવા જતા. પણ એક દિવસ ઘરેથી નીકળેલા ત્રણેમાંથી મોટો દિકરો ઘરે પરત ન આવ્યો.  

હંસાબહેન થોડા દિવસ રધવાયા ફર્યા પણ ફરિયાદ કોને કરવી.. સરખુ બોલવાનુંયે ન ફાવે ને મન તો ચકળવકળ.. એમણે કેમ કરીને પોતાની જાતને સમાધાન આપ્યું હશે?

હજુ આ ઘા રુઝાયો નહોતો ત્યાં બીજો દિકરોય ચાલ્યો ગયો. હંસાબહેનની આંખોયે એનેય ઘણો શોધ્યો પણ...

બે નિજાનંદી કોણ જાણે કોના સાનિધ્યમાં હશે.. ખેર ઈશ્વરનું સાનિધ્ય તો આ ત્રણેયને હંમેશાં રહેવાનું...

આવા હંસાબહેન હવે ઘરનો રસ્તો ભૂલવા માંડ્યા. જ્યાં બેઠા હોય ત્યાં બેસી રહે. આ તો વસાહતના લોકોમાંથી કોઈ એમને ભાળી જાય તો સાથે તેડતા આવે ને એમના છાપરે જઈ બેસાડે. 

આવા હંસાબહેનને રહેવા પોતાનો પ્લોટ- ઘર મળે તે માટે કુબલિયાપરામાં રહેતા અન્ય પરિવારો સાથે અમે અરજીકરી ને તેમને રામપરા બેટીમાં પ્લોટ મળ્યો. કુબલિયાપરામાંથી સૌ રામપરા રહેવા આવ્યા ને હંસાબહેને પણ સાથે લાવ્યા. રામપરામાં માંગવા જવાય એમ નહોતું.  વિસ્તાર અજાણ્યો. એ બહુ મૂંઝાય. લોકો ખાવાનું આપે પણ બધાની સ્થિતિ એવી સદ્ધર નહીં.. 

અમને હંસાબહેનની સ્થિતિનો ખ્યાલ નહીં પણ જીવાભાઈ, ડુંગરભાઈએ  એ તરફ અમારુ ધ્યાન દોર્યું. 

ઘર બાંધવામાં સરકારના પૈસા ઉપરાંત 1.05 લાખ અમારા ખુબ પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ અને ઈન્દિરા આંટીએ આપ્યા. 

આ સિવાય જેની સૌથી વધુ જરૃર હતી તે રાશન આપવાનું અમે શરૃ કર્યું. આજુબાજુની બહેનોના ટેકાથી એ રાંધીને ખાય છે.

અમે આવા તકલીફમાં હોય ને પોતાનાથી થઈ શકતુ ન હોય તેવા 150  માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે..

ઘણા લોકો આવા માવતરો- વ્યક્તિઓના પાલક બન્યા છે.. આપ સૌની લાગણી અને શુભભાવનાથી આ કાર્યો થાય છે.

આપ સૌને પ્રણામ ને હંસાબહેનને તો કુદરતનું સાનિધ્ય.. એમને તો વહાલ જ કરાય્ ને હા, એક દિવસ એમના હાથનું બટેકાનું શાક ખાવાનું મારે બાકી..

Water, the joy to access this elixir is truly matchless!!

Mittal Patel visits trajpar settlement to view the sight of 
taps being installed

 “Ben, finally we have water at our settlement and  we can now bathe daily. We were always remarked and shooed by people for our body odour, they would keep us at a distance and tell we stink. It was not possible to bathe daily with water fetched from 3-kilometers away. Thankfully, we now  have water running through the tap at the settlement, please come to see it!!”

It will surprise anyone if called to view the sight of taps being installed at settlement. The Saraniya families of Morbi’s Trajpar had been requesting water for years. Despite frequent appeals access to water remained a dream. Every time Kanubhai, Chayaben or I would visit the settlement there was always hue and cry for water.

The Morbi District Collector is a compassionate officer, after we shared with him the plight of these families, his prompt instructions led to the installation of taps at the settlement. The water flows through them for 3 hours a day. Thankfully,  the families can now bathe daily.

It is after meeting such people you realise that bathing daily is a privilege not all can afford.

We are grateful to Morbi District Collector and the respected Chief Minister. It is your compassion that has enabled the resolution of such long-standing issues.

Of course, there was this mandatory photo-op with the tap!!

'અમારી વસાહતમાં પાણી આવ્યું બેન.. અધમણ મેલના ભરેલા અમે હવે રોજ નાઈએ છીએ.. લોકો પહેલાં કહેતા તમારી પાહે બેહીએ તો વાસ આવે. પણ હું કરીએ માથે ઉપાડીને ત્રણ કી.મી.દૂરથી પાણી લાવવાનું એમાં રોજ રોજ નાવાનું આખા ઘરનાને ક્યાંથી પોહાય? પણ બેન હવે અમારી વસાહતમાં નળ આવ્યા તે તમે  નળ જોવા હાલો..'

કોઈ પાણીના નળ જોવા બોલાવે તો નવાઈ તો લાગે જ.. 

મોરબીના ત્રાજપરમાં સરાણિયા પરિવારો વર્ષોથી રહે. પણ પાણીથી એમને ઘણું છેટું. ઘણી રજૂઆતો કરી પણ પાણીનો મેળ ન પડે..

હું અને અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન જ્યારે પણ વસાહતમાં જઈએ કે બહેનો પાણી માટેનું કાંક કરી દ્યોની રામાયણ કરે.

કલેક્ટર શ્રી મોરબી બહુ ઉમદા અધિકારી. એમને આ પરિવારોની સ્થિતિની વાત કરી.. એમણે સૂચના આપી ને થોડા વખતમાં પાણીના નળ નંખાયા.

દિવસમાં ત્રણ કલાક પાણી મળતું થઈ ગયું. હવે આ પરિવારો રોજ નહાય છે.

રોજ નાહવું એય કાંઈ બધાના નસીબમાં નથી હોતું..એ આવા પરિવારોને મળીયે ત્યારે સમજાય.

આભાર કલેક્ટર શ્રી તેમજ મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીનો...

તમારી લાગણીના કારણે વર્ષોથી પડતર પડેલા કાર્યો હવે થવા માંડ્યા છે.

બહેનોએ કહ્યું બેન નળ હારે ફોટો પાડીએ તો એ પાડ્યો..

 “Alcohol abuse has damaged his liver; there are a tumour and bile collection. Medication will dry up the bile,  but removing the tumour will need surgery.” The doctor shared this clinical diagnosis for Sureshbhai,  who resides on a footpath in Ahmedabad. The financial condition did not allow Sureshbhai to go consult a doctor and he did not possess a government-issued Ma Card or Ayushman Card to access free public health services.

CT Scan, Sonography, blood tests, medicines will all mount up the expenses. We asked Sureshbhai to get admitted to a government hospital as it would give us the ability to reduce the billed amount. The name of the government hospital made Sureshbhai run away from treatment. But we convinced him to opt for a government hospital and promised to be beside him through his treatment. Our Kiran was the one who would connect with the doctor and through the course of treatment.

Actually, it was Shri Krishnakant Uncle and Indira Aunty who inspired us to start Sanjivani Arogya Setu and Support Program. They also provided the required financial assistance for the same. Kiran came on board to coordinate this initiative.

Sureshbhai’s surgery was fixed at Sola Civil Hospital.  As promised,  Kiran was present to provide the support and coordinate the treatment. He succeeded in offsetting a lot of expense. Recently, Sureshbhai was at the office after recuperated well from the surgery, he was here to express his gratitude. Well, it is Krishnakant Uncle and Indira Auntie who need to be thanked for their magnanimity, we simply facilitated the process.

'લીવરમાં રસી અને ગાંઠ છે... આ ભાઈએ દારૃ પીને લીવરને ખલાશ કરી નાખ્યું છે..  દવાઓથી રસી સુકાય પણ ગાંઠ કાઢવા ઓપરેશન તો કરવું પડે' 

ડોક્ટરે સુરેશભાઈનું નિદાન કર્યું. 

અમદાવાદની ફુટપાથ પર રહેતા સુરેશભાઈ પાસે આર્થિક સગવડ નહીં ને મફત સારવાર થાય તે માટે આયુષ્માન કાર્ડ કે મા કાર્ડ નહીં.

સીટીસ્કેન, સોનોગ્રાફી, રીપોર્ટ, દવાઓના બીલો તો ચડવા માંડવાના.

સરકારી દવાખાનામાં દાખલ થઈ જાવ સુરેશભાઈ. ત્યાં ઓછા ખર્ચમાં ને શક્ય હશે તો વિનામુલ્યે સારવાર થાય એ માટે અમે કોશીશ કરીશું.

સરકારી દવાખાનાનું નામ આવ્યું કે એ ભાગ્યા પણ અમે હામ આપી. 

દવાખાનામાં ડોક્ટર સાથે જરૃર પડે અન્ય વિગતે મદદ કરવાનું કાર્ય અમારો કિરણ કરે. 

મૂળ ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ ને ઈન્દિરા આંટીએ સંજીવની આરોગ્ય સેતુ અને સહાય કાર્યક્રમ શરૃ કરવા માટેની પ્રેરણા આપી ને સાથે જરૃરી મદદ પણ કરી.. 

આમ કીરણ ફુલટાઈમ આ કાર્ય સાથે જોડાયો.

સોલા સિવિલમાં સુરેશભાઈનું ઓપરેશન ગોઠવાયું ને જ્યાં જરૃર પડી ત્યાં કીરણ ખડે પગે રહ્યો.

હોસ્પીલના અધિકારી સાથે વાત કરી જે થોડો ઘણો ખર્ચ થતો એ માફ કરાવ્યો.

સુરેશભાઈ હવે એકદમ સ્વસ્થ છે. આભાર માનવા એ ઓફીસ આવ્યા..

આભાર તો અંકલ આન્ટીનો ને કુદરતનો માનવો રહ્યો. અમે તો નિમિત્તમાત્ર..

પણ તમારા ત્યાં કોઈને ગંભીર બિમારી હોય સારવાર કરાવવા પૈસા નહોય તો કિરણનો - 84017 26987 પર સંપર્ક કરવા વિનંતી..અમે હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ કરાવીને સારી સારવાર થાય તે માટે શક્ય મદદ કરીશું.

VSSM helps destitute elderly like Laxmi Ma with ration and other medical needs...

A couple of weeks ago I had written about Laxmi Ma and the care she provided to her son who was not keeping well. Since she did not have money they could not visit a doctor, the son lay under a blanket on a charpoy near the house.  “Can you see what is wrong with him?” she had requested. The condition of Maheshbhai had shaken us.

 I returned to Ahmedabad but the images of Laxmi Ma and ailing Maheshbhai refused to move away from my sight. I asked our team member Rajnjibhai to take him to a doctor. Sanjaybhai also lived in the vicinity so both of them together took  Maheshbhai to a clinic. The oxygen level in the body was very low. We spoke to Janakiben, the local political leader who helped us get Mahesbhai admitted to a local hospital. Further investigations revealed that Mahesbhai’s organs are failing, for a week the medical staff worked hard to treat him.  Rajnibhai was with Laxmi Ma all the while, she was relieved that treatment was reaching him but not happy with the fact that her son was in the hospital.

 Almost after a week, Maheshbhai breathed his last at the hospital. It was tough to break the news and explain this to Laxmi Ma. The last rites were also performed by Rajnibhai, Sanjaybhai and other friends.

 VSSM helps destitute elderly like Laxmi Ma with ration and other medical needs. The project that started with one elderly now reaches 150.

 The support you provide helps us reach and provide them with the peace they need during the fag end of their life. The work does bring peace and contentment to all. We are grateful for all that you are to the initiative.

Our hardworking team at the office and field is the backbone of this project. They ensure that the ration reaches these elderly between the 1st to 5th of every month.

 The elders who are not capable of cooking for themselves are helped by neighbours. A system has been worked out where the neighbours cook for them. We must bring everyone together in this effort of the greater good. “We are not at anyone’s mercy now, we are not destitute anymore!!” these elders share whenever I meet them.

This indeed is a huge impact.

 Thank you, Almighty for leading us through this.

ખેડાના લક્ષ્મીમાની વાત અહીંયા લખેલી. બિમાર દીકરાને એ સાચવે. દવા માટેના પૈસા નહીં ને મહેશભાઈ માથે ગોદડું ઓઢી પડ્યા રહે. હું એમને મળી ત્યારે લક્ષ્મીમાએ ફરિયાદ કરતા કહેલું જુઓને આ કશું ખાતો નથી.. સ્થિતિ જોઈને હું હચમચી ગયેલી. 

અમદાવાદ પરત આવી પણ લક્ષ્મીમા ને એમનો દીકરો મહેશભાઈ આંખો સામેથી જાણે ખસે જ નહીં. દવાખાને લઈ જવા અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈને કહ્યું. ત્યાં નજીકમાં સંજયભાઈ પણ રહે. બેઉ મિત્રો મહેશભાઈને દવાખાને લઈ ગયા. ઓક્સિજન લેવલ ઘણું ઓછુ આવ્યું. કોઈ દાખલ ન કરે. મૂળ સતત ગોદડું ઓઢેલું એટલે કદાચ ઓક્સિજન ઓછો પણ આ કોને સમજવું હતું?

સ્થાનીક રાજકીય આગેવાન જાનકીબેનની મદદથી એમને બીજા દિવસે દાખલ કર્યા. તપાસ કરતા ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે, શરીરના બધા જ પુરજા બગડી રહ્યા છે. હોસ્પીટલના સ્ટાફે એક અઠવાડિયું  મહેશભાઈ બચે એ માટે કોશીશ કરી. અમારા રજનીભાઈ પણ સતત ખડે પડે. લક્ષ્મીમા ને તો દીકરાની દવા થાય એ ગમે પણ હોસ્પીલમાં રાખ્યાે એ ગમે નહીં..

આખરે મહેશભાઈએ અંતીમ શ્વાસ દવાખાનામાં જ લીધો. લક્ષ્મીમાને રજનીભાઈ માંડ સમજાવી શકેલા.. અંતિમવીધી પણ રજનીભાઈને સંજયભાઈ જેવા લાગણીશીલ મિત્રોએ મળીને કરી. 

આવા ખુબ તકલીફમાં જીવતા માવતરોને રાશન આપવાનું અમે દર મહિને કરીએ. 

એક માવતરથી શરૃ કરેલું આ કાર્ય 150 માવતરો સુધી પહોંચ્યું.. 

સમાજ સહયોગ કરે માટે આ બધુ થઈ શકે.. પણ સાચુ કહુ જીવને સાતા આપનારુ આ કાર્ય.. મદદ કરનાર પ્રિયજનોનો ઘણો આભાર..

અમારા સંનીષ્ઠ નિષ્ઠાવાન કાર્યકરોના લીધે આ બધુ થાય 1 થી 5 તારીખમાં અચૂક રાશન માવતરોને પહોંચી જાય એવું એ લોકો કરે.. ઓફીસમાં બેઠેલા ને ગામોમાં ફરતા બેઉ કાર્યકરોની ભૂમિકા આમાં મહત્વની...

જે માવતર રાંધી ન શકે તેને આડોશી પાડોશી રાંધીને જમાડે તેવી વ્યવસ્થાઓ પણ કરી.. મૂળ માનવતાનું કાર્ય બધાને જોડવા તો પડે...

માવતરોને મળુ ત્યારે એ લોકો કહે, અમે નોધારા નથી.. ને હવે કોઈની ઓશિયાળી નથી. 

કેટલી મોટી વાત..

હે રામ તારો આભાર.. તે જ તો આ સુઝાડ્યું...

Some incident help us better understand the living conditions of many such families...

Five individuals along with their family members came 
to VSSM's head office

“Does anyone remove roof shades without permission? Did you like being labelled  a thief?”

“I am sorry, it was a grave mistake on my part. But, what should we do? Our children are shivering in cold, the condition was worst as they drenched in rains.”

“Where do you stay?”

“Our shanties are on the banks of a river!”

“What are your means to earn a living?”

“We grow vegetables.”

“How much does that fetch you?”

“You only tell me, how much can a basket of brinjals earn me?”

“Have you eaten your meal?”

 “No, Ben…”

This is an incident from a settlement we had built. 4-5 individuals had removed roof shades of the houses we had built and used those roofs to cover their own homes. Incidentally, their theft was caught. VSSM’s Jayantibhai and community leader Gorakhnathji believed to talk to them instead of handing them over to the police. Hence, these five individuals had come to our office along with their families, they feared consequences. As we learnt they hadn't eaten, we immediately arranged for their meal, a thought that left them amazed.

“Ben, we are sorry. We will never repeat  this in our life.”

“I am sure you will never do this again. But I want to help improve your economic condition. Can’t you do something else in life? Think about it!! If you wish to do that we are ready to help you. And about the house, you already have plots sanctioned by the Government,  we shall try to speed up the allotment process and ensure you receive aid to build a house on it. But remember not to repeat your mistake.” I ensured and instructed.

Later we talked about religion and karma and before parting, they took a pledge of their deity to never engage in any unlawful activity. I am sure they will remain committed to their pledge.

“Why didn’t we hand them over to police, there are chances they might turn into repeated delinquents,” one of our team members remarked.

“Instead of questioning a hungry why did he steal a roti, to ensure he receives proper meal is more important to me. Also, no one is delinquent at birth, it is the circumstances that make to take such unfortunate steps. We must act compassionately and guide them towards the right path.”

I have refrained from using the name of the village for a very obvious reason. But such episodes help us better understand the living conditions of many such families.

 'પુછ્યા વગર કોઈના ઘરનાં પતરાં કાઢી લેવાય? તમારા માથે ચોરનું લેબલ લાગ્યું તમને એ ગમ્યું?'

'ભૂલ થઈ ગઈ. માફ કરી દ્યો..પણ વખાના માર્યા આ કર્યું. અમારાં છોકરાં ટાઢે ઠરે, ચોમાસામાં તો હાલત ખરાબ થઈ જતી એટલે'

'તમે ક્યાં રહો?'

'નદીના ભાઠામાં. છાપરાં કરીને'

'કામ શું કરો છો?'

'શાકભાજી વાવીએ'

'તે મળે કેટલું?'

'શું મળે બેન? બખડિયું રીંગણાં નીકળે એ વેચીયે ને એમાંથી જે મળે તેમાંથી ગુજારો ચાલે..'

'તમે જમીને આવ્યા છો?'

'ના બેન..' અમે એક વસાહત બાંધેલી ને એ વસાહતમાં બાંધેલા ઘરો પરથી પાંચેક વ્યક્તિઓએ પતરાં કાઢી લીધા ને પોતાના છાપરે ઢાંક્યા. પણ ચોરી પકડાઈ ગઈ. અમારા કાર્યકર જયંતીભાઈ ને ગોરખનાથની લાગણી આ પરિવારોને પોલીસને સોંપવા કરતા આપણે એમની સાથે વાત કરીએ એવી. એટલે પતરાં લેનાર પાંચેય વ્યક્તિ બહુ બીતા બીતા ઓફીસ આવેલા. સાથે એમની પત્ની ને નાના બાળકો પણ આવ્યા. અમારી વચ્ચેના આ વાર્તાલાપમાં એ જમ્યા નહોતા નો ખ્યાલ આવ્યો ને તુરત એમના માટે પહેલાં ચા - નાસ્તાની વ્યવસ્થા કરવા કહ્યું..

પાંચેય વ્યક્તિને આ વર્તનથી સખત નવાઈ લાગી.. એકે કહ્યું, 

'બેન ભૂલ થઈ ગઈ હવે જીંદગીમાં નહીં કરુ..' મે કહ્યું, 

'મને ખાત્રી છે તમે ફરી નહીં કરો. પણ તમારી સ્થિતિ સુધરે એવું કાંઈક કરવું છે.. તમે બીજા વ્યવસાય ન કરી શકો? વિચારીને ક્યો.. જો એ કરવું હોય તો અમે તમને મદદ કરીશું.. ને રહી વાત ઘરની તો સરકાર અને કલેક્ટર શ્રીએ લાગણી રાખી તમને પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યો છે એનો કબજો ઝટ મળી જાય ને એના ઉપર ઘર બાંધવા તમને મદદ પણ કરીશું.. પણ હવે પછી આવી ભૂલ નહીં કરવાની...'

એ પછી ધર્મ કર્મ બધાની ઘણી લાંબી વાતો થઈ... છેલ્લે બધાએ પોતાની કુળદેવીના નામે ચોરી ન કરવાના સોગંદ લીધા.. એ લોકો સોગંદ પાળશે અનો મને વિશ્વાસ છે.. 

અમારા એક કાર્યકરે પુછ્યું, 'આપણે પોલીસને કેમ ન સોંપ્યા, કદાચ એ રીઢા ગુનેગાર બની પણ બની શકે?' ને મારો જવાબ, 

'રોટલી ચોરનારને ચોરી કેમ કરી એમ કહીને સજા કરવી એના કરતા એને ભરપેટ ભોજન કેવી રીતે મળી શકે તેની વ્યવસ્થા કરવી મારે મન વધારે ઊચીત છે.. વળી દરેક વ્યક્તિ જન્મજાત ગુનેગાર નથી હોતા. સંજોગો એને ગુનેગાર બનાવે છે. ત્યારે એણે અપનાવેલા માર્ગેથી એને પ્રેમથી પાછો વાળવો એજ વધારે ઊચીત..'

ગામનું નામ નથી લખ્યું મૂળ એ જણાવવું યોગ્ય ન લાગ્યું. પણ કેવી બાબતો આપણી સામે આવતી હોય છે તેનો આછેરો ખ્યાલ આવે માટે આ પ્રસંગ લખ્યો..

The modern-day narrative is full of instances of young children/married couples abandoning their parents. Hence, when you come across an instance of a vision-impaired son caring and serving his mother in a way even a normal son wouldn’t, it does melt your heart.

Bhikhabhai stays with his mother Dhuliben in Nadiad’s Daavda village. Bhikhabhai had never had any issues with his sight, but some ailment led to a gradual loss of vision. As we were headed to his house, Bhikhabhai with a dhol hanging over his shoulder and walking with the aid of stick crossed us.  The poverty he endured was written all over him. Dhoodhima was asleep on a charpoy in the aanagan. Their living condition unnerved me. Since Ma had trouble hearing,  our  Rajnibhai loudly announced our arrival and Ma was in tears. “People have beaten me, here and here, can you please share this news with my sister…” she spoke with tears in eyes. Even though she was not very audible,  we could understand her pain. Wonder what people get from harassing handicap beings like her. The society we are part of is brimming with sadists. Bhikhabhai tried consoling her, but Ma was unable to comprehend all of that and kept talking about her pain.

Although Bhikhabhai is in no position to take up the responsibility of anyone else, he is the sole caregiver to frail and bedridden Dhudi Ma.  He bathes her, cook for her and feed her, caring for her mother was a task he performed wholeheartedly.

The support VSSM receives from its well-wishers enables it to take care of 143  destitute and needy individuals. Every month VSSM provides them with a ration kit to help them cook meals and eat well. Dhudi Ma also receives a ration kit under this initiative.

They were unable to avail any benefit from the government schemes as they had lost their ration card and were unaware of the handicap pension benefits. But, Bhikhabhai at least has the ration we provide to fall back on, he very carefully stores it the ration and keeps the house locked to prevent food theft.

We believe in the theory of Karma and it is said that our fate depends on our Karma, but looking at families and individuals like these pains me. I fail to understand what Bhikhabhai and Dhudi Ma karma are that they live under such painful conditions. Prayers to Almighty to never make anyone undergo such traumatic living conditions.

 હું મળી આજના શ્રવણને..

મા-બાપને ત્યજી દેતા સંતાનોની ઘણી વાતો આપણે સાંભળીએ.  ત્યારે એક અંધ દીકરો પોતાની માની આંખે દેખતા દીકરા ન કરી શકે તેવી સેવા ચાકરી કરે એ જોઈને રાજી થવાયું.નડિયાદના દાવડાગામમાં ભીખાભાઈ રાવળને તેમની મા ધૂળી મા રહે. આમ તો ભીખાભાઈની આંખો સાજીનરવી હતી પણ અચાનક આંખમાં તકલીફ થઈ ને પછી ધીમે ધીમે અંધાપો આવ્યો. 

અમે એમના ઘરે જઈ રહ્યા હતા ત્યારે હાથમાં લાકડીના સહારે ચાલી રહેલા ભીખાભાઈને અમે રસ્તામાં જોયા. દીદાર પરથી જ દરિદ્રતા દેખાય. ઘરના આંગણામાં ધૂળીમાં સુતેલા. હાલત જોઈને હૈયુ દ્રવી ઊઠે. 

અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈએ ભીખાભાઈને અમે મળવા આવ્યા છેની વાત જરા જોશથી કહી. મૂળે એ ઓછુ સાંભળે એટલે. પણ અમારી વાત સાંભળી એ રડવા માંડ્યા ને રડતા રડતા જ મને લોકોએ માર્યો, અહીંયા ધબ્બો માર્યો, તમે મારી બેનને સમાચાર મોકલજો ને વગેરે વગેરે.. એમના શબ્દો ચોખ્ખા નહોતા સંભળાતા. પણ એમની તકલીફ સમજાતી હતી. આવા વિકલાંગ વ્યક્તિને હેરાન કરીને લોકોને મળે શું? પણ ખેર સમાજમાં વિકૃતિ બધે જ પડેલી છે.. 

ભીખાભાઈને દીલાશો આપવા કોશીશ કરી પણ એ અમારી વાત સ્પષ્ટ સાંભળી શકતા નહોતા. પણ એ સતત કશુંક બોલે જતા હતા.. 

ભીખાભાઈ રોજ ધૂળી માને નવડાવે, રસોઈ બનાવી એમને ખવડાવે ટૂંકમાં ખરા હૃદયથી તેમની ચાકરી કરે.ભીખાભાઈની ક્ષમતા કામ કરવાની નથી.. ને ધૂળી મા તો ખાટલામાંથી કોઈની મદદ વગર ઊભાય નથી થઈ શકતા. 

આવા 143 માવતરોને સાચવવાનું સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્નેહીજનોની મદદથી અમે કરીએ.. દર મહિને આ પરિવારોને પેટ ભરીને ખાઈ શકાય તેટલું રાશન અમે આપીએ... એ અંતર્ગત ધૂળી માને પણ રાશન આપીએ.. 

સરકારમાંથી રાશન મળે છે? તેવું બહુ મોટેથી પુછ્યું ત્યારે ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે, રાશનકાર્ડ જ ખોવાઈ ગયું છે... વિકલાંગ સહાય મળે છે કે કેમ ખબર નહીં.. પણ અમે અનાજ આપીએ એ અનાજ ભીખાભાઈ ઘરમાં સાચવીને મુકે ને મોટુ તાળુ ઘરના દરવાજે મારે જેથી એ અનાજ કોઈ ચોરી ન જાય...

આવી સ્થિતિમાં જીવતા લોકોને જોઈને જીવ બળે. 

લોકો કહે દરેક પોતાના કર્મનું ફળ ભોગવે... 

આ મા - દીકરો ક્યાં જન્મનું કર્મ ભોગવી રહ્યા છે એ ખબર નહીં પણ ભગવાનને આવી તકલીફ કોઈન ન આપની પ્રાર્થના..

As we all know there are numerous poverty elevation and welfare schemes the state and central government launch time to time. If the benefits of these schemes were to reach the people they are designed for there would be no hunger, poverty or backwardness in this country. VSSM strives to ensure that the communities it works with access to these schemes and benefit from it. The government authorities also play their role in ensuring this happens. At times when the going gets tough as suggested we also draw the attention of our Chief Minister on matters that need his intervention, he takes due notice and instructs the officials to do the needful.

The proactiveness of the government has resulted in the clearance of files pending for years. The authorities are compassionately trying to resolve the pending issues.  And for this, I will be every grateful to our Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani. Our Prime Minister is also empathetic towards these communities, he remains updated on the progress of schemes implemented for these poor communities.

I have experienced the power and ability to get things done when political and bureaucracy decide to work together. When they join hands they can resolve any challenges they face. I am grateful to everyone in government for the support they provide in solving chronic issues the marginalised communities face.

Recently, a meeting chaired by District Collector of Gandhinagar to discuss and find solutions to the long pending issues of marginalised communities of Gandhinagar. The Collector instructed his officials to find solutions to these challenges,  “bringing joy and happiness to the poor and destitute families is the most rewarding work. These families are really in need to experience your compassion. The satisfaction it will bring you will be incomparable!” he shared.

After the meeting 84 Devipujak families of Gandhinagar’s Delvada, Chrada, Aajol, Ridrol villages were issued BPL ration cards and many received caste certificates.

Since the families have received the documents that are fundamental to processing applications for residential plots, the authorities are working towards ensuring the same. These address-less humans will soon receive a place to build permanent houses.

The speed at which the papers are moving assures the challenges these families are facing shall be resolved soon. I salute these efforts the government is steering in to make the marginalised part of the mainstream.

VSSM team persevere very hard to resolve the issues these families tackle on daily basis. They make numerous rounds of the settlement. In Gandhinagar  Rizwan and Tohid worked hard. Govindbhai, Deepakbhai, Girdharbhai Kiranbhai etc.  from the settlement joined hands in these efforts. It is this collective hard work that is paying off. Almighty too is working to ensure our families encounter lesser challenges. Gratitude and prayers to almighty to give us the strength we need to continue persevering.  

વાત ગાંધીનગરના દેલવાડા, ચરાડા,  આજોલ અને રિદ્રોલમાં રહેતા વંચિતોની.

સરકારની કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાઓ ઘણી.. આ બધી યોજનાઓની મદદ છેક તળીયે પહોંચે તો દેશનું ખરેખર કલ્યાણ થઈ જાય.. અમે યોજનાઓની મદદ છેવાડે રહેતા વંચિત - વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોને મળે તે માટે સતત મથીએ.. અધિકારીગણનો સહયોગ પણ મળે.. 

પણ ક્યારેક કોઈ તકલીફ જણાય તો આપણા મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીએ કહેલું, મારુ ધ્યાન દોરવાનું ને અમે ધ્યાન પણ દોરીએ ને એમના તરફથી જરૃરી સૂચના પણ અપાય..આમ સરકારની સક્રિયતાના લીધે વર્ષાથી સરકારી કચેરીઓમાં પડેલી ફાઈલોનો નિકાલ હવે આવવા માંડ્યો છે. અધિકારીઓ સંવેદનાથી ઉકેલ માટે કોશીશ કરવા માંડ્યા છે. આ માટે મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી વિજયભાઈ રૃપાણીની હું ખરેખર ઋણી છું. 

આપણા વડાપ્રધાન પણ આ સમુદાયોની ચિંતા કરે છે.. એટલે જ વખતો વખત તેમના માટે થઈ રહેલા કાર્યોનો એ જાયજો પણ લે છે.. અધિકારીગણ ને રાજકીય પાંખ ભેગી થાય તો કેવું સુંદર કાર્ય થાય એ અમે છેલ્લા કેટલાક સમયથી અનુભવીએ છીએ..સરકારમાં બેઠેલા આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે રાજીપો વ્યક્ત કરુ છું..

તાજેતરમાં ગાંધીનગર કલેક્ટર શ્રીની અધ્યક્ષતામાં ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લામાં રહેતા વંચિત સમુદાયના પ્રશ્ને બેઠક થઈ ને એમણે તમામ અધિકારીને આ પરિવારોના પ્રશ્નો ઉકેલવા સૂચના આપી. તેમણે કહ્યું, આ કાર્ય મન અને હૃદયને સાતા આપનારુ અને આ પરિવારો ખરેખર જરૃરિયાતવાળા. તેમનું કાર્ય કરશો તો એનો સંતોષ અનેરો હશે..

આ બેઠક પછી #ગાંધીનગરના #દેલવાડા, ##ચરાડા #આજોલ, #રિદ્રોલમાં રહેતા રાવળ અને દેવીપૂજક સમુદાયના 84 પરિવારોને BPL રેશનકાર્ડ તેમજ ઘણા બધા વ્યક્તિઓને જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર આપવામાં આવ્યા. આ પ્રાથમિક પુરાવા મળતા હવે આ પરિવારોને ઝડપથી રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા ને ઘર મળે તે માટે પણ અધિકારીગણે તજવીજ હાથ ધરી છે. ટૂંકમાં સરનામાં વિનાનાં માનવીઓને ઝટ સરનામુ મળશે.જે ત્વરાથી કાર્ય થઈ રહ્યું છે એ જોતા ઘણા પ્રશ્નો ઉકેલાઈ જશે તેવું લાગે છે.. મુખ્યધારામાં વંચિત પરિવારોને લાવવાના સરકારના પ્રયાસોને વંદન કરુ છું. 

VSSMની ટીમ ખુબ સંવેદનાથી આ બધા પ્રશ્નોના ઉકેલ માટે સતત દોડાદોડી કરે.. ગાંધીનગરમાં રીઝવાન અને તોહીદની જબરી મહેનત ને એમને ટેકો કરે.

વસાહતના લાગણીશીલ ગોવિંદભાઈ , દિપકભાઈ, ગીરધરભાઈ, કીરણભાઈ વગેરે... આપ સૌ સ્વજનોની મહેનત હવે રંગ લાવી રહી છે.. કુદરત હવે આપણા આ પરિવારોની તકલીફ દુર થાય તે માટે એક હકારાત્મક વાતાવરણ રચી રહી છે.. આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતાભાવ..ને ઈશ્વરને હજુ વધુ બળ આપવા પ્રાર્થના...

 No food on the plate or larder when children are crying of hunger is heart-wrenching for any parent.

At the age when it is time to be at peace, retire and relax, Rajkot’s  Pooni Maa and Valabha were buried under the responsibility of raising their grandchildren after the death of their son and daughter-in-law walking away from the children.

They were physically incapable of working are manual labourers. Hence, Pooni Maa would take her grandchildren to pick scrap or beg. “Why did God choose this pain for us??’ was the constant question in their mind.

While there is Ramankaka who constantly worries for her mentally challenged daughter. His physical condition is not favourable and so is Jivat maa’s. Both are frail and weak to work and earn for themselves. The couple waits for their neighbour Keshabapa to finish meals so that the leftovers can reach them.

The living conditions of such destitute elderlies is pathetic, to say the least.

We have been working with the needy and marginalized for years, but this section of the society never caught our attention. Maybe because we thought their needs could be met through the programs we have for the needy. However, the destitute elderly have special needs. It was obvious we had to plan some special remedial program for them. We decided to care and nurture the destitute elderly who needed support.  We launched Maavtar, elderly care and support program with one elderly. Today we support 124 of which 16 elderly eat at one kitchen.

It is a work that brings solace to the soul and people it supports.

Again, as we always say VSSM has just been a medium, it is the support you provide that enables us to reach people in need. It is not difficult at all  Manishabahen Rajput, Nishabahen Bhutani, Prajakta Bhave,  Darshita, Heena Desai…have adopted our elderly parents for life.

And well-wishing friends Bhavnabahen Mehta, Shri Rashmikant Shah, Kusumbahen Shah, Lions Club of Shahibaugh. Estate of Bomi Sohrabji Bulsara, Madhvi Mehta, Amolibahen Shah, Maheshbhai Dave… have been consistently supporting us with Maavtar.

It is hard to mention all whose contribution has enabled us to continue with our work, and we are grateful for their support. It is your generosity that has helped us continue our work. May Almighty provide you with the opportunities to continue your noble deeds.

ભૂખ લાગી હોય પણ પાસે ખાવા ના હોય એ સ્થિતિ બહુ કપરી છે..રાજકોટમાં પૂનીમા ને વાલાભાને હરી ભજવાના સમયે પૌત્રપુત્રીને ઉછેરવાની જવબાદારી આવી. દીકરો હરી નાની ઉંમરે બાળકોને અને માવતરોને નોંધારા મુકીને ભગવાનના ઘરે પહોંચી ગયો ને વહુને પિયરીયા તેડી ગયા..મજુરી કરવા તો શું જવાય. નાના ભૂલકાં ક્યાંક પ્લાસ્કીટક વિણવા ને પુની માં ભીખ માંગવા જાય. પણ પાછલી અવસ્થાએ આ પીડા સીદ આપી એવું એમને થાય.

તો રમણકાકાને પોતાના કરતાં પોતાની માનસીક અસ્થિર દીકરીની ચિંતા વધારે. વળી એમના પણ હાથપગ કામ ન કરે. જીવત માથી તો સીધુ ચલાય પણ નહીં. તો કેશાબાપા જેવા પડોશીઓના ત્યાં ઝટ બપોરો ને સાંજનું વાળુ પાણી પતે તેની રાહ જુએ. મૂળ તો જમ્યા પછી વધે તો એમને મળે માટે..કેવી કપરી સ્થિતિમાં ઘડપણ જીવવાનું..

વર્ષોથી સમાજ કાર્યો સાથે સંકળાયેલી પણ ક્યારેય આ દિશામાં ધ્યાન નહોતું ગયું. પણ અચાનક કુદરતે ધ્યાન દોર્યું ને પછી આવા માવતરોને સાચવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.. એક માવતરથી શરૃ કરેલું આ કાર્ય આજે 124 માવતરો સુધી પહોંચ્યું છે અને 16 માવતરો એક જગ્યાએ સાથે બેસીને જમે છે..

રાહત આપનારુ, મનને સાતા આપનારુ કાર્ય.. 

ફરી કહુ તો અમે નિમિત્ત માત્ર બાકી મદદ કરવાવાળા કરે ને આ કાર્ય આગળ ધપે.. જો કે આ કાંઈ બહુ અઘરુયે નથી.. મનીષાબહેન રાજપૂત , નીશાબહેન ભૂતાણી, પ્રજકતા ભાવે, દર્શીતા, હીના દેસાઈએ તો પોતાની ક્ષમતા મુજબ માવતરોને દત્તક લીધા જ્યાં સુધી જીવે ત્યાં સુધી એમને સાચવશે..

આ સિવાય ભાવનાબહેન મહેતા, શ્રી રશ્મીકાંતભાઈ શાહ, કુસુમબહેન શાહ, લાયન્સ કલ્બ શાહીબાગ, એસ્ટેટ ઓફ બોમી સોહરાબજી બુલરાસા, માધ્વી મહેતા, અમોલીબેન શાહ, મહેશભાઈ દવે . વગેરે જેવા ઘણા પ્રિયજનો આ કાર્યમાં સતત મદદ કરી રહ્યા છે માટે આ કાર્યો થાય છે.

અહીંયા તમામ સ્વજનોના નામ નથી લખી શકી પણ આપ સૌના અનુદાનની નોંધ લઈને આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા વ્યક્ત કરુ છું..આપ સૌ સાથે છો માટે જ આ કાર્યો થઈ રહ્યા છે.. આપની લાગણીને પ્રણામ ને ઈશ્વર આપને વધુ સેવાની તક ખુબ આપે તેવી શુભભાવના...
