"In another 100 years it will not be possible for any one now present to come for a meeting  here in a crematorium. We all work here in the crematorium. However, we need a proper place to sit here. You have improved many crematoriums. Please help us in improving ours too.This crematorium  is the first place as soon as we enter the village". 

This was the conversation we had in Kuwata Village in Banaskantha District with Tejabhai & other elders of the village.

VSSM plants trees and takes care of the same till it grows.  We started this work in 2019 and till now we have developed 166 forests in the villages wherein 8.80 lakhs trees are planted.

In 2024 we plan to plant another 3 lakh trees. We are identifying the villages. We have received the request from Kuwata village & we have asked them what sort of help they can give us.

The elders of the village promised to protect the area, where trees will be planted, with barbed areas and also to install a shock machine. They will also arrange for water supply and clean the area. VSSM role will be to dig the land & plant the trees. Also to arrange for drip irrigation and to appoint a caretaker for the trees.

So with the co-operation of VSSM & the village, the work will be done.

However, Kuwata village is different  from other villages. They took an oath with water in their palms that they will take care of the trees in the crematorium. This oath is important to remind the villagers in case they fail in their duty to take care of the trees.

If all come together like Kuwata village , the earth will become a lovely green place and will be like a pasture.

Our associate Naranbhai, Maheshbhai & the entire team of care takers work very hard in this mission. We take pride in having such dedicated associates.

We wish more people would become aware of the benefits of planting trees.

બનાસકાંઠાના કુવાતાગામના તેજાભાઈ અને ગામના અન્ય આગેવાનો સાથે થયેલી બેઠકમાં એમણે આ વાત કરી. 

VSSM વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવાનું કરે. અમે 2019થી આ કાર્ય શરૃ કર્યું હાલમાં અમે 166 ગ્રામવનો ઊભા કર્યા જેમાં 8.80 લાખ વૃક્ષો ઉછરી રહ્યા છે.

આ વર્ષે એટલે કે 2024માં બીજા ત્રણ લાખ વૃક્ષો વાવવા છે. ગામોની પસંદગી થઈ રહી છે. એમાં દિયોદરના કુવાતાગામે અમને વિનંતી કરીને અમે ગામલોકો શું સહયોગ કરશેનું પુછ્યું.

ગામના આગેવાનોએ, સમશાન ફરતે વંડો છે પણ નીલગાય ઠેકી શકે તો ગામે ઈંગલો મારી તાર લગાડવાનું તેમજ ઝાટકા મશીન લગાડવાનું કરી આપવા કહ્યું. સાથે પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા પણ કરશે ને સફાઈ પણ કરી આપશે..

અમારી ભૂમિકા ખાડા કરી વૃક્ષો વાવવાના તેમજ ડ્રીપની વ્યવસ્થા અને પગારદાર માણસ જેને વૃક્ષમિત્ર કહીએ તેને રાખવાની..

ગામ અને સંસ્થાના સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી આ કાર્ય થશે.

જો કે કુવાતાગામ જરા નોખુ પણ ખરુ. સ્મશાનમાં એમણે વાવેલા વૃક્ષો બરાબર ઉછેરશેની પ્રતિજ્ઞા હાથમાં જળ લઈને એમણે કરી.

અમે અનુભવે શીખ્યા ઘણા ગામો ઉત્સાહથી આમંત્રણ આપે પણ પછી દરકારમાં પાછા પડે.. ત્યારે આ પ્રતિજ્ઞા અગત્યની..

બસ કુવાતા ગામની જેમ સૌ સહભાગી થાય તો આ ધરતી મા હરિયાળી થઈ જાય. ગામના ગૌચર બચી જાય..

Crematoriums are not the places we frequent; someone reading my stories might think I visit crematoriums often. And I do. Not to attend funerals but to further our efforts to make crematoriums of Banaskantha green to make them beautiful and relaxing.

Recently, I was in Gogapura village of Banaskantha’s Deesa block. We are deepening the lake in this village this year, but two years ago, we planted 1000 trees at the crematorium here. Since I was in the village, I thought of visiting the crematorium and seeing how the trees were doing! It was a beautiful site; the trees were growing well under the care of Bhupatji, the Vriksh Mitra.

On witnessing the trees flourish, the village youth, Sarpanch Kishansinhji, and Vice-Sarpanch Rajubhai, requested a similar tree plantation drive at the crematorium for the Dalit community. The proactiveness of local leadership plays a vital role in carrying out development work in the villages. Each village should have Sarpanch like Kishansinhji.

Planting native trees that help attract birds and bees with their fruits and flowers helps maintain the region's biodiversity.

મૃત્યુ જીવનની ઈતિશ્રી નથી પણ પૂર્ણવિરામ આપ્યા પછી નવીન અનુચ્છેદની પ્રગલ્ભ જીવનની પુનઃ શરૃઆત છે.  મૃત્યુ જીવનનું વિરામ સ્થળ છે. વિનોબા ભાવે કહેલી આ વાત જ્યારે પણ કોઈ સ્મશાનમાં જવું ત્યારે અચૂક યાદ આવે. 

આમ તો સ્મશાનમાં વળી કોણ જાય? કોઈ પહેલીવાર આ વાંચે ત્યારે એમને થાય પણ ખરુ કે આમ આ બેન આમ જાણે વારંવાર સ્મશાનમાં જતા હોય એમ કેમ લખે છે! પણ જવુ છું હું વારંવાર સ્મશાનમાં અને એનું કારણ સ્વજનને કે કોઈને સદેહે વળાવવા નહીં પણ જ્યારે દૈહિક રીતે વિરામ લીધા પછી શરીર જ્યાં રાખમાં મળે તે સ્મશાન કેવા મજાના હોવા જોઈએ એ વિચાર સાથે સ્મશાનને હરિયાળા કરવાનું અમે બનાસકાંઠામાં શરૃ કર્યું. એટલે વારંવાર સ્મશાનમાં જઈએ.

હમણાં બનાસકાંઠાના ડીસાના ગોગાપુરાગામમાં જવાનું થયું. આમ તો અમે ત્યાં તળાવ ઊંડુ કરી રહ્યા છીએ. પણ આ ગામના એક સ્મશાનમાં અમે બે વર્ષ પહેલાં 1000 વૃક્ષો વાવેલા. આ વૃક્ષો કેવા થયા એ જોવા ગયા ને જોઈને રાજી થવાયું. વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછર્યા. વૃક્ષમિત્ર ભૂપતજીએ સરસ સંભાળ રાખી. 

ગામના એક સ્મશાનમાં વાવેલા વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછર્યા એ જોઈને ગામના દલીત સમાજના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવા ગામના યુવા અને જાગૃત સરપંચ તેમજ ઉપસરપંચ શ્રી કિશનસીંહજી અને રાજુભાઈએ વિનંતી કરી. આ બેઉ ઘણા ઉત્સાહી છે ગામના વિકાસમાં પોતે સક્રિય રીતે કાંઈક નક્કર કરવાની ભાવના રાખે.. 

આવા સરપંચ દરેક ગામમાં ઈચ્છનીય. 

સાથે ગામના સ્મશાન અને ખરાબાની ખાલી પડેલી જગ્યાઓ પર સારા વૃક્ષો, ફળ અને ફૂલ આવે તેવા વવાય તે પણ ઈચ્છનીય. વૃક્ષ વાતાવરણને સમતુલીત રાખવામાં મદદ કરે છે. બસ એટલે વધારે વૃક્ષો વવાય તેમ ઈચ્છીયે.

Almost a year ago, Vishnubhai sent us an invite to help them raise trees at the crematorium of their village Maandala.

And they also agreed to VSSM’s pre-conditions of fencing the site and making arrangements for water during and after the plantation. What more could we ask for? So after a Vriksha Pujan ceremony, we began plantation at the  Mandala crematorium.

I had the opportunity to visit the Mandala crematorium to see the growth of the trees we planted a year ago. And we were happy with the progress the trees were making. VSSM appoints a Vrikhsa Mitra at each site; it is the Vriksh Mitra’s responsibility to nurture and protect each of these trees. VSSM also pays remuneration to each of these appointees.

However, the significant responsibility also falls on the Vrikrsha Mandali, the individuals who invite us to the village for the tree plantation. They ensure that the promises are kept, and the trees are raised well—our pranams to the Vriksha Mandali of Maandla village for diligently fulfilling their responsibilities.

The newly elected Sarpanch is equally sensitive; he has offered to provide land that can grow another 5000 to 7000 trees and fulfil all the raising requirements.

Our lessons with the tree plantation drive have given us an understanding that if each village works with a five-year plan to raise at least 20,000 to 25,000 trees, the mother earth will once again remain draped in a green cloak.

We hope for other villages to become as aware as Maandala village.

માંડલા ગામની સ્મશાનભૂમીમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું કહેણ એક વર્ષ પહેલાં વિષ્ણુભાઈ તરફથી આવ્યું.

અમારી શરત ગામની ભાગીદારીની. જેમાં પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા તેમજ તારની વાડ ગામ કરી આપે તે. 

બનાસકાંઠાના માંડલા ગામે આ મંજૂર હોવાનું કહ્યું. બસ પછી તો શું અમને તો ભાવતુ'તુને વૈદે કીધા જેવું.અમે વૃક્ષપૂજન કાર્યક્રમ કરીને સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો રોપ્યા. લગભગ વર્ષ પછી વાવેલા વૃક્ષો કેવા ઉછર્યા એ જોવા જવાનું થયું ને સ્મશાન જોઈને રાજી થવાયું. 

અમે વાવેલા વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા એની કાળજી કરવા અમે દરેક જગ્યાએ વૃક્ષમિત્ર મુકીએ જેને અમે પગાર ચુકવીએ. પણ વૃક્ષમિત્ર કરતા વધારે જવાબદારી ગામની વૃક્ષમંડળીની કે જેમણે અમને એમના ગામમાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવા આમંત્રણ આપ્યું હોય..

માંડલાની વૃક્ષમંડળીને પ્રણામ કરવા ઘટે. એમણે વૃક્ષોની  સરસ માવજત કરી.

મે વાવેલો પીપળો પણ સરસ ઉછર્યો છે જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.

ગામમાં નવા ચૂંટાયેલા સરપંચ પણ ખુબ સરસ.. એમણે ને વિષ્ણુભાઈ જેવા વૃક્ષમંડળીના અન્ય સભ્યોએ બીજી 5000 થી 7000 વૃક્ષો વાવી શકાય તેવી જગ્યા અમને આપવાનું કહ્યું. જ્યાં શરત પ્રમાણેની સગવડ એ કરી આપશે.

દરેક ગામ પાંચ વર્ષનો લક્ષાંક પોતાના ગામમાં ગ્રીનકવર એટલે કે ઓછામાં ઓછા 20,000 થી 25,000 વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછરવાનો રાખે તો આખી ધરતી લીલી થઈ જાય...

માંડલા ગામની જેમ અન્ય ગામો જાગે એમ ઈચ્છીએ...

“Can you help us plant trees at the ganda-baval infested crematorium of our village?” Banaskantha’s Samaumota village’s Sarpanch calls us with this request. VSSM’s Naranbhai and Maheshbhai visited the village to evaluate the onsite conditions.

The crematorium had live fencing, but the ganda-baval trees needed to be removed. The milk cooperative pitched in and we cleared the ganda baval bust from the site. And the Panchayat has helped bring water to the site. 

Once the basic requirements were met, it was time for VSSM  to begin digging the pits for the plantation. However, the soil is too tight to be drilled in; hence after digging 900 holes, we decided to wait for rain to soften the ground. We will dig up and plant the trees in one go. We will also set up a drip irrigation facility and appoint a Vriksh Mitra. We plan to plant 3000 trees at Samaumota.

The forest department will be helping us with the saplings. The collective efforts of village leadership, forest department and VSSM will ensure the village crematorium turns lush with trees.

 'અમારા ગામનું સ્મશાન ગાંડા બાવળથી ભરેલું છે. ત્યાં સારા વૃક્ષો વાવવા છે તમે મદદ કરશો?'

#બનાસકાંઠાના ડીસાના સમૌમોટાગામથી ગામના સરપંચ શ્રીનો ફોન આવ્યો ને અમારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ, મહેશભાઈએ સ્મશાનની મુલાકાત લીધી. 

સ્મશાન ફરતે વંડો કરેલો હતો. હવે જરૃર હતી ગાંડાબાવળને હટાવવાની. ગામની દૂધમંડળીએ એ માટે સહયોગ કર્યો ને સ્મશાનમાંથી ગાંડાબાવળને તીલાંજલી આપી. પાછુ પંચાયતે ત્યાં પાણીની સુવિધા પણ કરી આપી.

હવે અમારી ભૂમીકા શરૃ થઈ. અમે ખાડા કરવાની શરૃઆત કરી. પણ જમીન ઘણી કઠણ 900 ખાડા કરીને રહેવા દીધું. એક વરસાદ થઈ જાય પછી ખાડા કરી વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું સાથે સાથે કરી લઈશું. 

અંદાજે 3000 થી વધારે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાના સંકલ્પ સાથે વાવીશું. ડ્રીપની વ્યવસ્થા પણ કરીશું. સાથે પગારદાર માણસ જેને અમે વૃક્ષમિત્ર કહીએ તે પણ રાખી લઈશું.

વનવિભાગ પણ વૃક્ષો આપવામાં શક્ય મદદ કરશે. આમ ગામ, દૂધમંડળી, VSSM અને #વનવિભાગના સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી સમૌમોટાનું સ્મશાન #હરિયાળુ કરવાનો અમે પ્રયાસ કરીશું.

You are growing to be aware and mindful. Yet, I remember the time we had to struggle to make you comprehend the gravity of the looming environmental crisis. We fought with the inhabitants of your soil to make them understand the need and importance of water, to cover the dry ground of Banas with a green cloak.

My team and well-wishing friends often asked me, "don't you get tired?"

"We are sowing the seeds of change; a day will come when these  efforts will pay off!" I would respond. 

That day has arrived.

The village leadership is sending invites to help them deepen the village lakes. The community that once refused to lift the excavated soil is bringing their tractors to ferry that soil and contribute to the effort.

A positive change is also happening on the tree plantation front. "Ben, you come to our village and plant trees; just let us know the support you need from us," I often hear from village leadership.

To witness this transformation brings us much joy. 

Recently, I received a call from Hanifbhai from Tharad. "Ben, our graveyard is spread across 8-9 acres. Let us work together to make it green!"

We reached the proposed site. Hanifbhai and his companions offered to clean the area, provide water and contribute Rs. 25,000 to 30,000 to make pits to plant the saplings. We would make arrangements for drip irrigation, plant the trees and appoint a tree caretaker. We were happy to see the preparedness Hanifbhai and his friends portrayed. ઘણી ખમ્મા બનાસકાંઠા તને....

તુ હવે જાગતલ થઈ રહ્યો છે.. #જળસંચયના અને વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાના કામો માટે અમે કેવા મથતા.. તારી ધરા પર રહેતા ગામલોકો સાથે રીતસર માથાકૂટો કરતા.. સૌ પાણીના મહત્વને સમજે, બનાસની વેરાન ધરા પર વૃક્ષો ઉછેરે, મા ધરાને લીલુડો શણગાર ચડાવે તે માટે કેટલી માથાકૂટો કરતા... 

ક્યારેક મારા સાથીદારો, અમને મદદ કરનાર કહેતા તમને થાક નથી લાગતો? ને હું કહેતી  આ બધુ તો વાવેતર. એક દિવસ જરૃર ઊગી નકીળશે.. તે બસ હવે એ ઊગવા માંડ્યું...

ગામોમાંથી સામેથી પોતાના ગામના તળાવો ઊંડા કરવા કહેણ આવવા માંડ્યા. ને એક વખત માટી ઉપાડવાની ના પાડનાર લોકો હોંશે હોંશે ટ્રેક્ટર મુકે છે ને પાછો પોતાનાથી થાય તે ફાળો પણ આપે...

આવું જ વૃક્ષ ઉછેરમાં પણ થવા માંડ્યું છે. તમે આવો બેન અમારે શું સહયોગ કરવાનો કહી દો અમે કરીશું પણ તમે વૃક્ષો વાવો...કેવો હરખ થાય આ બધુ સાંભળીને...

હમણાં થરાદથી હનીફભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો. બેન અમારુ કબ્રસ્તાન લગભગ 8 થી  9 એકરનું એને હરિયાળુ કરીએ. ને અમે પહોંચ્યા કબ્રસ્તાન જોવા. હનીફભાઈ ને એમના સાથીદારોએ પાણીનો બોરવેલ, કબ્રસ્તાનની સફાઈ સાથે 25000 થી 30,000નો ફાળો મૂળ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા ખાડા કરવા આપવા કહ્યું.... અમે ડ્રીપ લગાડીશું, વૃક્ષો વાવીશું ને એની સંભાળ માટે માણસ રાખીશું... પણ હનીફભાઈની તૈયારીથી રાજી થવાયું.. તમે પણ હનીફભાઈ જેવી તૈયારી સાથે તમારા ગામમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા માંગો તો અમારો સંપર્ક ચોક્કસ કરશો. નારણભાઈ રાવળ - 9099936035 પર..

Benap, one of the remotest village of Banaskantha is a village of extremes. Extreme cold, extreme heat and acute water shortage are the norm in this village.

In 2019, Benap’s sarpanch Paragbhai had requested for bringing the tree plantation drive to their village. As a result, we planted trees around the village crematorium. We were a little concerned if they would be cared for, but the vrukshmitra has done an excellent job, and Paragbhai has efficiently supervised the entire effort. Three years later, we have a small woodland growing around the crematorium.

In 2021,  Paragbhai shared a desire to raise a second woodland. The humble community members from the village set aside 9 acres of land. The District Development Officer of Banaskantha helped us clean the space, dig pits for plant trees, and buy saplings. The village community and our dear Krishnakant Uncle and Dr Indira auntie supported to enable us to plant and raise  10,000 trees and create a woodland named Sanjeev Upvan.

It has been eight months since we planted the trees to create Sanjeev Upvan, the second woodland in Benap. The care and nurturing by tree caregiver  Sava Ba, Sarpanch Paragbhai, the proactive youth of Benap and VSSM’s Bhagwan have all helped create a beautiful and calming woodland. The height of the trees has surprised us as well. At one point, we were uncertain if the trees would take roots in this harsh and arid land, but looking at the healthy and happy trees, we are sure of a thriving woodland coming up. The goodwill of all who have supported it has helped create wonders.

A site filled with the notorious gando-baval, Sanjeev Upvan is a sight to behold. Guava, Jamun, Neem, Gulmohar, Peepul, Indian Fig tree, Saru, Peltaform trees sway in joy as if they are eagerly waiting for their inhabitants to arrive.

We have created a small woodland and offered it to Mother Earth, and I wish you spare some resources to develop such forests in your village. A forest that will be home to thousands of living beings. If we can create such woodlands in the rain-starved Banaskantha, the Rain Gods will be compelled to bless the region. So let us all commit to raising Vruksh Mandir in every village.

વૃક્ષમંદિર નિર્માણ..

બનાસકાંઠાનું છેવાડ આવેલું ગામ બેણપ. ટાઢ અને તડકો બેય તોબા પોકારી દે એવા અહીં પડે. પાણીની અછતવાળો વિસ્તાર. ગામમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા સરપંચ પરાગભાઈએ અમને 2019માં કહેણ મોકલ્યું ને અમે સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. જો કે શંકા નહીં ઉછરેની હતી પણ વૃક્ષમિત્રની મહેનત ને સરપંચની દેખરેખના લીધે સૂકા વિસ્તારમાં નાનકડુ વન ઊભુ થઈ ગયું. 

પછી તો હિંમત આવી. 2021માં પરાગભાઈને બીજુ એક વન ઊભુ કરવા જગ્યા આપવા કહ્યું ને ગામના સજ્જન માણસોએ હોંશે હોંશે 9 એકરથી વધુ જગ્યા આપી. બનાસકાંઠાના જિલ્લા વિકાસ અધિકારીએ જગ્યાની સફાઈ, વૃક્ષો વાવવા ખાડા કરવામાં મદદ કરી. ઘણા વૃક્ષો પણ ખરીદીને આપ્યા. બાકીની મદદ ગ્રામજનો ને અમારા પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા નેેે ડો.ઈન્દીરા મહેતાએ કરી ને સરસ મજાનું સંજીવ ઉપવન ઊભુ થયું જ્યાં 10,000 વૃક્ષો લહેરાઈ રહ્યા છે. ગામમાં અમે ઊભુ કરેેલું આ બીજુ ઉપવન એમાં વૃક્ષ વાવે આઠ મહિના થયા છે પણ અમારા વૃક્ષમિત્ર સવા બા સરપંચ પરાગભાઈ ને ગામના અન્ય ઉત્સાહી યુવાનોની સક્રિયતા ઘણી વળી અમારા કાર્યકર ભગવાનની પણ દેખરેખ એટલે વૃક્ષો સારી રીતે ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. 

વૃક્ષોની ઊંચાઈ પણ નવાઈ લાગે તેવી.. આ વિસ્તાર જે રીતનો એ જોતા આવું સરસ વન ઊભુ થશે એની શંકા  હતી પણ થઈ ગયું. કદાચ મદદ કરનાર સૌનો પુણ્યભાવ પણ કામે લાગ્યો.

જામફળ,જાંબુ, કાશીદ, લીમડો, ગુલમહોર, પીપળ, સરૃ, ઉમરો વગેરે જેવા વૃક્ષો સંજીવ ઉપવનમાં લહેરાઈ રહ્યા છે. એક વખત આ જગ્યા ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલી હતી. ત્યાં હવે જાતજાતના ફૂલ ફળવાળા વૃક્ષો ઉગ્યા છે. આ વૃક્ષો મોટા થશે ને હજારો જીવોનું આ ઘર બનશે.. 

બેણપ ગામે નાનકડુ જંગલ બનાવીને મા ધરતીનેે આપવાનું કર્યું. તમે પણ તમારા ગામમાં એક નાનકડુ જંગલ - ભગવાનના ભાગરૃપે કાઢો તેવું ઈચ્છુ જ્યાં અબોલ જીવો કોઈ ભય વગર રહી શકે.  ગાઢ જંગલ 10000 થી 15000 વૃક્ષોનું ગામે ગામ થશે તો ઓછા વરસાદવાળા બનાસકાંઠામાં ભગવાને વરસવા મજબૂર થવું પડશે એ નક્કી તો ચાલો ગામે ગામ વૃક્ષમંદિરોનું નિર્માણ કરીએ...

The wise and aware community leaders of various villages have begun sending requests to VSSM for launching a tree plantation campaign in their respective villages. VSSM calls the plantation sites – vruksh-mandir/tree temples.

Maheshbhai from Tharad’s Duva village called us, and we reached the village to inspect the site around the village crematorium. The community had initiated clearing the area of wild baval trees and building a boundary wall around the chosen location. They had also made arrangements for water to set up the drip irrigation system.

VSSM will dig pits to plant trees, bring trees, install a drip irrigation system, and appoint and pay the vriksh-mitr (caretaker of the trees).

Duva’s Maheshbhai is a very humble and aware individual; he understands that the more vruksh-mandirs we raise, the better it is for Mother Earth. So he has convinced the sarpanch and community of Kalash Luvana village to raise a tree temple in their town.

We need individuals like Mahesbhai, who can play the catalyst and convince more villages to join in.

If the community of Banaskantha wakes up to this acute need for planting trees, we will soon be able to make Banaskantha green again!

પોતાના ગામમાં વૃક્ષમંદિર ઊભા કરવા ગામના જાગૃત વ્યક્તિઓના કહેણ આવવા માંડ્યા. 

થરાદના ડુવા ગામથી મહેશભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો ને અમે પહોંચ્યા ડુવાનું સ્મશાન જોવા. ખૂબ મોટુ સ્મશાન. અમારી શરત પ્રમાણે સ્મશાન ફરતે દિવાલ કરેલી ને ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલા સ્મશાનમાંથી ગાંડા બાવળ કાઢવાનું પણ ગામના જાગૃત નાગરિકોએ ભેગા મળીને શરૃ કર્યું. આ સિવાય પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા પણ ગામે કરી. 

અમે ખાડા કરી, વૃક્ષો લાવી વાવવાનું, ડ્રીપ લગાડવાનું ને ત્રણ વર્ષ માટે વૃક્ષમિત્રની નીમણૂક કરી વૃક્ષની માવજત કરવાનું કરીશું. 

ડુવાના મહેશભાઈ એકદમ સજ્જન માણસ ને જાગૃત પણ ખરા અમે એમને વધારે વૃક્ષમંદિર બનાવવા અન્ય પરિચીત ગામોને તૈયાર કરવા કહ્યું ને એમણે કળશ લુવાણાગામના સરપંચ શ્રી સાથે વાત કરીને ત્યાં વૃક્ષો વવાય તે માટે સૌને તૈયાર કર્યા. 

મહેશભાઈની જેવા જાગૃત નાગરીકોની અમને જરૃર જેઓ આંગળી ચિંધવાનું કરે. 

બસ બનાસકાંઠા જાગે ને સહયોગ કરે તો આપણે સૌ સાથે મળીને એને હરિયાળો કરીશું એ નક્કી..

We have embarked on a massive campaign of planting and raisin trees, an imminent need of the current times…

As a human race, we are staring at difficult times if we do not pull our act together and begin planting and raising trees.

It is important to think in the direction of introducing diverse trees to the otherwise arid or ganda-baval packed village wasteland and crematorium compound.

VSSM has selected Banaskantha district for the implementation of its tree plantation campaign, and as part of our program, we do not stop at planting trees but also care for them to they are raised well.

In August 2021, with the help of the forest department and village community, we planted trees around Ramdevpir temple in Juna Deesa. The attached image shares a glimpse of how well the trees are growing. Within coming  3-4 years, these trees will have a canopy to provide shade to other living beings.

વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું અમારુ અભીયાન. આમ જુઓ તો આજના સમયની આ તાતી જરૃરિયાત.

 નવા વૃક્ષો નહીં વાવીએ ને જે વાવેલા છે એનું જતન નહીં કરીએ તો આવનારો વખત વધારે કઠીન આવવાનો..

ગામના ગૌચર, સ્મશાનભૂમી આજે બંજર અથવા ગાંડાબાવળથી ભર્યા પડ્યા છે ત્યારે આ ગૌચર જમીન અને સ્મશાનભૂમીને હરિયાળી કરવાનું આપણે કેવી રીતે કરી શકીએ તે દિશામાં ઝાઝુ વિચારવાની જરૃર છે. 

અમે બનાસકાંઠામાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ને ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી તેની માવજત એટલે કે સરખી રીતે ઉછરે તે જોવાનું નિર્ધારીત સંકલ્પ સાથે કરી રહ્યા છીએ.

જૂના ડીસાના રામદેવપીરના મંદિરમાં ગામ અને વનવિભાગની મદદથી અમે ઓગષ્ટ 2022માં વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. અમે વાવેલા વૃક્ષો કેવા સરસ ઉછર્યા તે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.

આ વૃક્ષો ઘટાટોપ થાય ને એના માંડવા નીચે સૌ જીવ સુખેથી બેસી શકે તેવું આવનારા ત્રણેક વર્ષમાં થશે.

We want to change the face of our crematorium," village elders tell us.

And then they launched the massive operation of clearing the 'ganda-baval' trees around the crematorium. They also constructed a boundary wall and fence. Supported by GACL, we planted the trees, installed drip irrigation facility and appointed a vriksh mitra.

The committed efforts of the tree committee ensured most of the planted trees survived.

If each village strives to work as dedicatedly as Vakha village, each of our village can turn into 'nandanvan'

ગામના વડીલોએ કહ્યું, અમારે અમારુ સ્મશોન અસલ કરવું હ્.

પછી તો શું ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલા આ સ્મશાનભૂમીની સફાઈ એમણે જાતે કરી. દિવાલ, વાડ બધુયે કર્યું ને અમે VSSM થકી વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા સાથે ડ્રીપની વ્યવસ્થા ને વૃક્ષોની સંભાળ રાખી શકે તેવા વૃક્ષમિત્રની નિમણૂક કરી. 

આ કાર્ય માટે મદદ કરી GACL સંસ્થાએ.. 

ગામની વૃક્ષમંડળીની ધગશ ઘણી એટલે વાવેલા વૃક્ષોમાંથી મહત્તમ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. 

દરેક ગામ વખા જેવી ધગશથી કાર્ય કરે તો દરેક ગામ નંદનવન બની જાય..

આભાર GACL અને ગ્રામજનોનો તમે અમને ધરતીમાને હરિયાળી કરવાનો મોકો આપ્યો.

“Is Banaskantha your native, or  is  it the only region you work in?” I have often been asked.

I am a believer of  Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. VSSM’s various initiatives are implemented in 22 districts, but the tree plantation campaign and the deepening of lakes are only implemented in Banaskantha. If we focus our resources and energy on one region, its far-reaching impact will be felt in 10-15 years.

Many get upset at our stance of focusing our environmental activities only in Banaskantha. They invite us to come and work in their region.

GACL organisation supports our tree plantation drive in  Banaskantha. They requested us to implement our tree plantation drive in 10 villages of Baroda while assuring financial support for the same.

There is an urgent need for such massive efforts in all the regions, and ‘if GACL supports, we can work in other regions,” the team opined.

We had an introductory meeting at the GACL office chaired by Shri Sanjaybhai Bhatt and the Sarpanchs of 10 shortlisted villages. We shall now arrange to visit these villages and launch our tree plantation campaign in the region.

We are delighted our universe expanded a little more; I am sure this must have delighted Mother Earth as well.

ઘણી વખત લોકો મને કહે, બેન તમારુ વતન બનાસકાંઠા? અથવા ફક્ત બનાસકાંઠામાં જ તમે કાર્ય કરો?

સાંભળીને હું તો વસુદૈવ કુટુંબમાં માનુ એમ કહુ. આમ તો અમે 22 જિલ્લામાં વિધવિધ પ્રવૃતિઓ કરીએ. પણ વૃક્ષોઉછેરવાનું ને તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું કાર્ય ફક્ત બનાસકાંઠામાં કરીએ. મૂળ એક જિલ્લામાં કાર્ય કરીએ તો દસ પંદર વર્ષે પછી એની ઈમ્પેક્ટ જોઈ શકીએ માટે..

પણ આ નિર્ણયથી ઘણા નારાજ પણ થાય. અમારા વિસ્તારમાં પણ તમે આ કાર્ય માટે આવો અમે મદદ કરીશુંનું કહેણ પણ ઘણા મોકલે..

#GACL સંસ્થા અમને #બનાસકાંઠામાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવામાં મદદ કરે. એમણે આ વખતે વડોદરામાં દસેક ગામોમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા અમને કહેણ મોકલ્યું ને આર્થિક મદદની ખાત્રી આપી. 

આમ તો પર્યાવરણનું કાર્ય ગામે ગામ થાય તે આજના સમયની તાતી જરૃર. વળી GACL મદદ કરે તો નવા વિસ્તારમાં પણ જઈએ એવું ટીમ સાથે નક્કી થયું.

બસ નક્કી થયાના ભાગરૃપે જે દસ ગામોમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું કરવાનું છે તે ગામના સરપંચો સાથે GACLના કાર્યાલય પર શ્રી સંજયભાઈ ભટ્ટના અધ્યક્ષ સ્થાને પ્રાથમિક બેઠક થઈ. હવે ગામોની મુલાકાત ગોઠવીશું ને જુન 2022 પછી ત્યાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું આયોજન કરીશું.

ફલક બહોળુ થયાનો આનંદ... ને મા ધરતી રાજી થશે એ નક્કી...
