“This settlement of ours is huge, yet some families still stay in mud homes; and most houses also lack access to water. It would be a relief if water reached these homes and the owners of mud houses can have brick-cement homes.

During a recent meeting, the community of Paandva village of Mahisagar’s Balasinor block shared the above sentiments. We ensured that their homes would not remain kuccha for long because our Prime Minister dreams of a pucca home for all the homeless families. We also briefed them that the government has implemented the ‘Nal-se-Jal’ scheme to ensure potable water reaches each household.

We have brought the living condition of this settlement to the notice of the district collector and will continue to follow up with the authorities until their issues are resolved. We hope the solution happens soon.

The Raval community of Paandva village earns their living through agriculture or small-scale independent ventures. We offered to support them in whatever way they deemed possible. The community members share a great bond we pray for their continued harmony and well-being.

 "અમારી વસાહત કેટલી મોટી છે પણ બધે પાણી નથી પહોંચતું. ઘણા પરિવારોના ઘરો હજુ પણ ગાર માટીના બનેલા છે. પાણી અને બધાના ઘરો પાક્કા થાય તો અમને ઘણી રાહત થઈ જાય.."

મહિસાગરના બાલાસિનોર તાલુકાના પાંડવા ગામના લોકો સાથે જ્યારે બેઠક થઈ ત્યારે એમણે આ લાગણી વ્યક્ત કરી. પ્રધાનમંત્રી શ્રીનું સ્વપ્ન દરેક વ્યક્તિનું પાક્કુ મજબૂત ઘરે બને તેવું એટલે તમારુ ઘર કાચુ નહીં રહે તેવી વાત વસાહતમાં અમે કરી સાથે નલ જે જલ યોજના સરકારે કાર્યાન્વીત કરી છે તે અંતર્ગત પણ નળથી ઘરે ઘરે પાણી પહોંચાડવાની સરકારની મૂહીમની પણ વાત થઈ.

અમે કલેક્ટર શ્રીને આ માટે રજૂઆત પણ કરી છે અને જ્યાં સુધી પ્રશ્નનું સમાધાન ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી રજૂઆત કરીશુંનું કહ્યું છે.  આશા રાખીએ આ પ્રશ્નનો ઝટ નિવેડો આવે.

પણ પાંડવાગામની રાવળ સમુદાયની આ વસાહતના લોકોનો સંપ જબરો. સૌ નાના મોટા ધંધા કરીને કે ખેતીકામ પર નભે. અમે એમાં કોઈ રીતે મદદરૃપ થઈ શકીએ કેમ તે અંગે પણ વસાહતના સૌ સાથે વાત થઈ.. બસ સૌના શુભમાં નિમિત્ત બનીએ તેવી પ્રાર્થના..

“Allotment of Ration Cards and that too BPL ration cards within such a short time is beyond our comprehension. It has taken us months and sometimes years of struggle to get our existing ration cards reissued upon splitting them.” Prahaladbhai Raval of Gandhinagar’s Lodra shared with great astonishment.

Ludra has a considerable population of Raval families who earn their living as menial labor. While some have pucca homes, others don’t, and many who do not even have a place to call home stay in rented properties. These individuals are enterprising but lack the capital to launch their independent ventures, and it is unaffordable to borrow money from private money lenders at a high-interest rate. We discussed these and many other aspects of their life during the meeting. Now that VSSM is with them, the families experienced a sense of relief. VSSM’s team member Rizwan has made great efforts to ensure the families receive their ration cards and other citizenry documents. We are grateful to the Mamlatdar of Mansa Shri  Vishalbhai Parmar and Additional Mamlatdar Shri Chiragbhai Shah for their promptness in issuing the ration cards. Shri Chiragbhai obliged our team member’s request and paid a visit to the settlement...

We are also grateful to the Public Supply Department of Mansa.

Incidentally, Shri Nimeshbhai Savla and Shilpaben, our well-wishing donors, traveled with us on that day and participated in this noble cause. Our best wishes to these families of Ludra.

 'આટલા જલદી રેશનકાર્ડ એ પણ બીપીએલ મળે એ કલ્પના બહારની વાત હતી પણ જુઓ આ બધું થયું. વિભાજીત રેશનકાર્ડ માટે પણ અમે ઘણા વખતથી મથતા પણ મેળ નહોતો પડતો.'

ગાંધીનગરના લોદ્રામાં રહેતા પ્રહલાદભાઈ રાવળે ભાઈએ આ કહ્યું. 

લોદ્રામાં રાવળ સમુદાયની વસતિ ઘણી મોટી. ઘણા છૂટક મજૂરી કરીને ગુજારો કરે. કેટલાક પાસે પાકા ઘર છે તો કેટલાક પાસે નથી. ઘણા પાસે રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા નથી. ભાડાના મકાનમાં ઘણા રહે છે. ધંધો કરવાની સમજણ છે પણ પાસે મૂડી નથી. વ્યાજવા લાવે તો પોષાય નહીં. આવી ઘણી વાતો તેમની સાથે બેઠક કરી તેમાં તેમણે કરી. 

પણ હવે સૌને નિરાંત એ વાતે હતી કે VSSM એમની સાથે છે. કાર્યકર રીઝવાન એમના માટે ઘણું મથે આ રાશનકાર્ડ માટે પણ એણે જ ફોર્મ ભરીને પ્રયત્ન કરેલા.

માણસા મામલતદાર શ્રી વિશાલભાઈ પરમાર અને નાયબ મામલતદાર શ્રી ચિરાગ શાહનો ઘણો આભાર. આ બેઉની આ સમુદાય માટે ખુબ લાગણી એટલે આ કાર્ય ઝડપથી થયું.

ચિરાગભાઈ તો અમારા કાર્યકર રીઝવાનની લાગણી ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને વસાહતમાં પણ આવ્યા.

The spread of VSSM’s work which has increased many-fold over the past couple of years. It is natural to expect community members to volunteer in resolving their issues. The need for the formation of community associations at district and block level and committees at settlement level has been observed since a while.

Recently, a meeting was organised in Banaskantha’s Kankrej with an objective to form VSSM inspired public associations. 15 members have volunteered to take up the responsibility of becoming part of the committee and contribute their time and efforts for the development of their communities. Kanubhai Raval has been selected as the President of the association while Bhagubhai Kangasiya has been assigned the responsibility of Association’s secretary. Shardaben Patni is the only female member of the association, a number both Shardaben and I  plan to increase in coming times

 It is the efforts of Naran, Ishwar and Kanubhai that have resulted into the formation of this association. We plan to strengthen the association so that it’s representatives become instrumental in bringing good in the lives of fellow community members.

વિચરતી જાતિઓ સાથેના કામોનો વ્યાપ ઘણો વધ્યો છે.

આવામાં તાલુકા અને જિલ્લા સ્તરે સમુદાયના સંગઠનો બને અને સંગઠનમાં જેમને પણ સ્વેચ્છાએ સેવાભાવથી કામ કરવાની ઇચ્છા હોય એવા લોકો જોડાય એ ઇચ્છનીય છે.

વળી જે લોકો જોડાય એમાંથી જ પંદર લોકોની કમિટી બને તો દરેક વસાહતોમાં રહેતા લોકોના પ્રશ્નો તરફ ધ્યાન પણ આપવું આ કમિટીના સભ્યો થકી સરળ બને.

કમિટીની રચનાની આ સમજણ સાથે બનાસકાંઠાના કાંકરેજમાં પ્રથમ વિચરતા સમુદાય સમર્થન મંચ પ્રેરિત લોક સંગઠનની રચના કરવામાં આવી. જેમાં ૧૫ વ્યક્તિઓએ સ્વેચ્છાએ પોતાના સમાજના વિકાસમાં સહભાગી બનવાનું સ્વીકાર્યું.

આ સંગઠનના પ્રમુખ તરીકે કનુભાઈ રાવળ અને મંત્રી તરીકે ભગુભાઈ કાંગસિયાની બેઠકમાં ઉપસ્થિત સૌએ સ્વેચ્છાએ વરણી કરી.

The warm and traditional welcome I received from the small girls of Harij ushered memories of the days when I too, as primary school student  be part of the welcome committee at most school functions.

There is a huge concentration of Raval families in Harij  living under pathetic conditions (as visible in the image). VSSM’s Mohanbhai filed residential plot applications for 46 of these families. On Patan District Collector Shri Anand Patel’s instructions his team was able to find land for these families.  As a result of this compassionate officer these families will soon receive papers to their little plots of land.

The efforts of district Social Welfare Officer Shri Vitthalbhai Patel enabled these families to acquire the very essential caste certificates. I had the good fortune of distributing these certificates to 40 families.

The issues relating to non-existence of sewage connections, basic roads to the settlement  in this thickly populated settlement shall be addressed soon was the promise given to us by the Vice President of  Town Corporation who was also present at the document distribution program.

હું મારા ગામની પ્રાથમિકશાળામાં ભણતી તે વખતે ગામમાં કોઈ પ્રસંગ હોય કે બહારથી મહેમાન આવવાના હોય ત્યારે ધડો લઈ તૈયાર થઈને અમે મહેમાનના સ્વાગત માટે જતા.

હારીજમાં રહેતા રાવળ પરિવારની દીકરીઓએ અમારુ સ્વાગત અદ્લ નાનપણમાં અમે કરતા એ રીતે કર્યું.

હારીજમાં રાવળ પરિવારો ખૂબ મોટી સંખ્યા રહે. પણ કટેલાક પરિવારોની હાલત ફોટોમાં દેખાય એ રીતની. અમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ 46 પરિવારોની રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળે તે માટેની અરજી કરી અને કલેક્ટર શ્રી આનંદ પટેલે આ પરિવારો માટે જમીન શોધવાનો આદેશ કરી દીધો ને જમીન શોધાઈ પણ ગઈ. ટૂંક સમયમાં કલેક્ટર શ્રીની લાગણીના લીધે આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળી જશે.

પ્લોટની દરખાસ્ત માટે જરૃરી જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર માટે જિલ્લા સમાજ કલ્યાણ કચેરીમાં અરજી કરેલી અને સમાજ કલ્યાણ અધિકારી શ્રી વિઠ્ઠલભાઈ પટેલની મદદથી 40 પરિવારોને પ્રમાણપત્રો મળી ગયા. જેનું વિતરણ કરવાનું સૌભાગ્ય પ્રાપ્ત થયું.

જો કે હારીજમાં હાલમાં જે સ્થળે રાવળ સમુદાયના પરિવારો બહોળી સંખ્યામાં રહે છે ત્યાં ગટર લાઈન, રોડ રસ્તાની જબરી તકલીફો છે. નગરપાલિકાના ઉપપ્રમુખ શ્રી પણ કાર્યક્રમમાં હાજર રહ્યા એમણે આ પ્રશ્નનો નિવેડો ઝટ લાવવાની ખાત્રી આપી.

વંચિતોને સુખી કરવામાં નિમિત્ત બનનાર સૌનો આભાર.. અને અંતે ઈશ્વરને

VSSM receives and values contribution it receives from its compassionate and caring  patrons. However,  when donations are made by individuals of the communities it works for, the joy increases many folds. We recently experienced the same joy.

Rajkot’s RavjibhaiKangasiya  assists his wife with her business of selling scrunchies, combs, fancy hair accessories, cosmetics, imitation jewellery etc. She is one of the many women retailers you might have seen selling their stuff along  the roadsides, each item neatly lined-up on the floor-spread. The mobile-shops are set up  each day on the urban streets.

VSSM’s team members Kanubhai, Chayaben help them and other numerous families with the tasks relating to application with government offices and likes. Kanubhai had asked Ravjibhai to expand their business with some aid from VSSM’s interest free loan program.

“That would be great!!” Ravjibhai readily  welcomed the idea.

“What will you plan to do with the loaned amount?” Kanubhai inquired.

“Increase the items on our spread!” Ravjibhai replied.

“No, not on the spread. You have to plan a shop to sell these items on wholesale rates.” Kanubhai recommended.

“That is beyond my capacity. Who will buy from me?”

 “The members of your community!”

“No, no!!”

“There is no time for your “no-no”, you have to do it!!” Kanubhai insisted.

Khodhubhai, the Kangasiya community leader and others extended their support and a shop happened. Enough stock was stored in the shop. The amount of loan in rotation increased gradually. Today Ravjibhai stocks goods worth Rs. 2.5 lacs. The members of Kangasiya community buy goods from him and Ravjibhai sells it at rates that are lower than the wholesale prices. It is happy days for Ravjibhai now. He never forgets to send some amount as donation to the organisation. “Help those who are poorer than me with this amount!” he would say while handing us the amount. He also never forgets the girls studying at our hostel. “The socks for these girls during winters will be from me always,” he would say. This year he not only remembered the girls but offered to buy socks for the boys as well. Kanubhai curtailed him from doing so, Ravjibhai felt offended but all was well later.

It brings us immense pride and joy to see names of individuals from nomadic community feature on the list of our donors, Ravjibhai you contribution holds great value for us.

You are a real hero for us and we are grateful for your being part of our VSSM family.

નિષ્ઠા અને શુદ્ધભાવથી વંચિતોના કલ્યાણ અર્થે દાન દેવા સંસ્થામાં ઘણા આવે. સંસ્થામાં આવનાર આ બધાય અમારા માટે શીરમોર..

પણ આ બધામાં જેમના કલ્યાણ અર્થે કામ થાય છે તે સમાજમાંથી કોઈ આવીને શક્તિ એવી ભક્તિ કરે તો વધુ રાજી થવાય.આજે એવો જ પ્રસંગ બન્યો.

રાજકોટમાં રહેતા રવજીભાઈ કાંગસિયા. એમના પત્ની કાંસકી, બંગડી, બોરિયા, બકલ વેચવા રાજકોટ શહેરમાં પથારો પાથરીને બેસે. તમે પણ નાના શહેરોમાં પથારો પાથરીને શૃંગાર પ્રસાધનો વેચતી આ બહેનોને જોઈ હશે. રવજીભાઈના પત્ની આ બધુ વેચે અને રવજીભાઈ તેમને મદદ કરે.

અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ, છાયાબહેન આ પરિવારોને નાના મોટા સરકારી કામોમાં મદદ કરે. કનુભાઈએ એક વખત રવજીભાઈને સંસ્થામાંથી વગર વ્યાજે લોન લઈને ધંધો વધારવા કહ્યું.

રવજીભાઈએ પણ 'તો તો બહુ હારુ' એમ કરીને વાતને વધાવી લીધી. કનુભાઈએ પૂછ્યું,

'લોનની રકમથી શું કરશો?'

'પથારામાં સામાનનો વધારો કરીશ'

'ના પથારો નહીં. પણ શૃંગારપ્રસાધનો વેચવા હોલસેલની દુકાન

કરવાની'

'મારી એ કેપેસીટી નહીં અને સામાન લાવું તો પણ મારી પાહેથી લે કોણ?'

'આપણા સમાજના લોકો'

'ના ના..'

'નાનાના નહીં એ કરવાનું છે'

પછી તો કાંગસિયા સમાજના ખોડુભાઈ અને અન્ય આગેવાનોએ પણ હામ આપી. છેવટે દુકાન થઈ અને એમાં સામાન ભરાયો. લોનનું રોટેશન વધ્યું આજે લગભગ બે થી અઢી લાખનો સામાન એમની દુકાનમાં ભર્યો છે અને કાંગસિયા સમાજના ફેરિયા તેમની પાસેથી સામાન લે છે. તે બજાર કરતા થોડા ઓછાભાવે સામાન આપે. આમ હવે રવજીભાઈ બં પાંદડે થયા.

સંસ્થાને દર મહિને લોનના હપ્તા સાથે અનુદાન તો ભૂલ્યા વગર મારાથીયે ગરીબ કોઈને મદદ કરજોનું કહીને આપી જાય. સાથે શિયાળો આવતા હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણતા દીકરીઓને પગના માંજા તો યાદ કરીને મારા તરફથી જ એમ કહીને કનુભાઈ છાયાબહેનને બોલાવીને આપી દે. જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.

આ વખતે તો એમણે એકલી દીકરીઓને નહીં પણ આપણી હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણતા દીકરાઓને પણ મોજા દેવાની વાત કરી. કનુભાઈએ એમના આ હરખને અટકાવ્યો. થોડા નારાજ થયા પણ પછી સમજ્યા.

દાતા તરીકે વિચરતી જાતિના એક વ્યક્તિનું નામ અમારા મેગેઝીનમાં છપાતું જોઈને રાજી થવાય..

Kokilaben Raval of Mitha Dharva greets Mittal Patel

“Ben, it has been decades  yet a decent house remained a distant dream. Thank God for Mohanbhai who showed us the way and the very empathetic  Collector Saheb who thought about our well-being. You know how we have survived without power, water and other basics!!” Kokilaben Raval of Chanasma block’s Mitha Dharva village shared this honest narrative.

 Many Raval families have made Mitha Dharva their home, most of these families had managed to construct houses with government support or through their own hard work. However, there were 20 families whose mud walled houses were in crumbling state (as seen in the picture). Also, the location of these houses was government wasteland and not their own plots. VSSM’s Mohanbhai had submitted applications for allotment of plots to these families. Collector Shri. Anand Patel is a very empathetic and compassionate officer. He instantly processed the applications and  granted plots to these 20 families.

While we were working on applications of these 20 families we came in contact with the Devipujak and other Raval families staying in vicinity where the plots have been allotted. We have also initiated the process of filing applications for these new found families as well.

It would have been impossible to process the applications without the support of Sarpanch Shri Hargovanbhai, who showed empathy for these families and helped us, remained by our side during  the entire effort.

Mohanbhai, our senior team member, remained constantly at it to ensure the families find a place to have a home. VSSM is blessed and proud to have team members like Mohanbhai who strive constantly for the welfare of the marginalised.

Mitha Dharva’s nomadic families was struggling with issues of sewage line, road etc. for which I was amidst them as always the welcome to these settlements feels like a warm embrace.  

'બેન વર્ષો નેહરી જ્યાં પણ રહેવા બલ્લે પાકુ ઘર નસીબ નતુ થતું. ભલુ થજો મોહનભઈનું તે ઈમને રસ્તો વતાડ્યો અન કલેટર સાહેબે અમારા ગરીબો હોમુ તાચ્યુ. નકર લાઈટ, પોણી વના અંધારામોં ચેવા પડ્યા સીએ તમે જોયુન?'

ચાણસ્મા તાલુકાના મીઠા ધરવા ગામમાં રેહતા કોકીલાબહેન #રાવળે આ વાત કરી.

રાવળ સમુદાયના ઘણા પરિવારો ગામમાં રહે. મોટાભાગના પરિવારોના ઘરો સરકારની મદદથી બન્યા તો ક્યાંક વ્યક્તિએ પોતાની મહેનતથી ઘર ઊભા કર્યા. પણ 20 પરિવારો એવા હતા જેઓના ઘરોની માટીની ભીંતો પડુ પડુ થઈ રહી છે. જે ફોટોમાં દેખાય છે. વળી તેમનું રહેવાનું પણ સરકારી ખરાબાની જમીનમાં. કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ આ પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવાય તે માટે અરજી કરેલી.

કલેક્ટર શ્રી આનંદ પટેલ બહુ ભલા અને ગરીબો પ્રત્યે લાગણી રાખનારા એકદમ અચ્છા અધિકારી. તેમણે 20 પરિવારોને તુરત પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યા.

જો કે આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફાળવાતા ત્યાં વસતા #દેવીપૂજક અને રાવળ સમાજના રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ન ધરાવતા અન્ય પરિવારો પણ સંપર્કમાં આવ્યા. તેમની પ્લોટની માંગણી કરતી દરખાસ્તો પણ કરી દીધી છે.

આ આખુ કામ ગામના સરપંચના સહયોગ વગર શક્ય નહોતું. હરગોવનભાઈની લાગણી આ પરિવારો માટે ઘણી તેમણે સતત સાથે રહીને આ કામ પાર પાડ્યું.

મોહનભાઈની દોડધામ વગર તો આ બધુ ક્યાં શક્ય હતું.. આવા સંનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકર અમારી સાથે છે એનો અમને ગર્વ છે.

મીઠા ધરવાના આ પરિવારોની વસાહતમાં ગટર લાઈન, રોડ વગેરેના પ્રશ્નો હતા એ માટે તેઓ ઘણા વખતથી વસાહતમાં આવવા આગ્રહ કરતા હતા એટલે જવાનું થયું. તેમણે સરસ ફુલ આપીને સ્વાગત કર્યું.

Mittal Patel listens to nomadic families

How much more will these families endure?

The current living condition of nomadic families

Since the last 40 years, the Devipujak and Raval families have called Delwada village of Gandhinagar’s Manasa their home. And their settlement is yet to receive primary facility like power. We have been trying for years to make it possible for these families to obtain plots upon which they could build their houses. The outcome  hasn’t been positive so far!!

Elders Narendrabhai Devipujak and Govindbhai Raval tell us as they share their pain, “even the Neem trees we planted are 35 years old now, they have found a place to grow and blossom but our condition continues to remain the dismal.”

Gandhinagar is at  the heart of Gujarat. When will these families who reel under tremendous difficulties receive place they can raise their home upon?

VSSM’s Tohid and Rizwan have stood beside  them like a rock. We will continue to try our best to ensure these families are not forced to evacuate their current place of residence and that they are provided plots to build their houses.

કેવી અસહ્ય યાતના આ પરિવારોને વેઠવાની થાય છે.

ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લાના માણસા તાલુકાના દેલવાડા ગામમાં દેવીપૂજક અને રાવળ પરિવારો છેલ્લા ૪૦ વર્ષ કરતા પણ વધારે સમયથી ગામમાં વસવાટ કરે છે. છતાં તેમની વસાહતમાં હજી સુધી લાઇટ જેવી પ્રાથમિક સુવિધા પહોંચી નથી.

રહેવા માટે પોતાનું ઘર થાય, પોતાની જગ્યા મળે એ માટે તેઓ વર્ષોથી પ્રયત્નો કરી રહ્યા છે પણ પરિણામ મળતું નથી.

નરેન્દ્ર ભાઈ દેવીપુજક અને ગોવિંદભાઈ રાવળ બંને જણા કે બેન અમે વાવેલા લીમડા આજે 35 વર્ષના થઈ ગયા એમનું ઠેકાણું પડી ગયું પણ અમારું ઠેકાણું પડ્યું નથી.

ગાંધીનગર જીલ્લો ગુજરાતનું હ્રદય. આ જિલ્લામાં અસહ્ય યાતનાઓ વેઠનાર વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોને પોતાનો આશરો પોતાનું ઘર ક્યારે મળશે?

એમને મળી ત્યારે એમણે પોતાનું હૈયું ઠાલવ્યું.

કાર્યકર તોહિદ અને રિઝવાન સતત એમની સાથે એમની મદદમાં..

આ પરિવારોને પોતાનું સરનામું મળે જ્યાંથી દબાણના નામે કોઈ એમના છાપરાં તોડે નહિ એ અપાવવામાં અમારાથી શક્ય મદદ કરીશું..

“The  floods took along everything we owned, not even a spoon was spared. VSSM helped me through the extremely difficult times, you advised me to  give up the habit of eating gutka and transformed my life for better. There was a time I felt how will I ever overcome such hard times, how will I survive? But look at me now, I am capable of giving employment to 5-7 people!” This  statement always comes forth when we think about Umri’s Lalabhai Raval, a person who personifies hard work humility and generosity.

We have shared Lalabhai’s story earlier on how after the devastating floods of 2017, VSSM supported Lalabhai with an interest free loan and that combined with his vision Lalabhai rebuild his life from scratch.

Within a span of 1.5 years, Lalabhai now owns 55 cattle. He sells milk worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs and his life has changed only for better. His hard work and  compassion is further reflected in his generosity towards others. Lalabhai makes  a monthly donation of Rs. 2000 to VSSM so that more individuals like him can be helped.  He is now an inspiration to others.

Individuals like Lalabhai are a blessing to the society and their inspiring deeds should be honoured and  stories need to  be told to the society. 

On 25th March, 2019, in a program organised to honour and appriciate the individuals who have been part of the Swavlamban program,  we felicitated  Lalabhai with a congratulatory letter and cash of Rs. 5000. However, the person that he is Lalabhai added Rs. 500 to the amount and  returned the cash amount to VSSM.

As Lalabhai becomes a role model for Swavlamban beneficiaries, we received numerous calls fter the program, saying “we too want to be like Lalabhai!” May these wishes come true is what we hope.  

It is Kanubhai who introduced us to Lalabhai and  Naran who constantly thinks about these families.

લાલાભાઈ #રાવળ

#બનાસકાંઠાના ઉમરીમાં રહે, એમનું એક વાક્ય બરાબર યાદ રહે, 

'2017ના પુરમાં મારુ બધીયે તણાઈ ગયું. એક ચમચી પણ નહોતી બચી. પણ સંસ્થાની મદદ અને પડીકી ખાવાની આદત તમે કહીને મે છોડી એ પછી મારા જીવનમાં ઘણો સુધાર આવી ગયો. એક સમય હતો જ્યારે મને થતું તું કે હું શું કરીશ, કેવી રીતે જીવીશ અને અત્યારે હું પાંચ, સાત માણસોને કામ આપી શકુ એવી ક્ષમતા ધરાવું છું.'

લાલાભાઈની આખી વાત ફેસબુકના આ પેજ પર પહેલાં લખી છે એટલે વધુ વાત નથી કરતી. પણ સંસ્થામાંથી મળેલી લોને એમને હિંમત આપી ને પોતાની કોઠાસૂઝ તો હતી જ.

દોઢ જ વર્ષમાં લાલાભાઈ 55 નાના મોટા ઢોરનો માલીક બની ગયા. મહિને દોઢ લાખનું દૂધ ભરાવતા થઈ ગયા. 

જીવન સાવ બદલાઈ ગયું. આજે લાલાભાઈ બધા માટે ઉદાહરણરૃપ બની ગયા.

આવા લાલાભાઈનું તા. 25 માર્ચના રોજ VSSMમાંથી લોન લઈને બે પાંદડે થયા હોય તેવા તેમજ સંસ્થાને નિયમિત ધર્માધુ એટલે કે અનુદાન આપતા હોય તે કેટેગરીમાં સન્માન કરવામાં આવ્યું. 

લાલાભાઈને અભીવાદન પત્રની સાથે રૃા. 5000 નો કેસ એવોર્ડ પણ આપવામાં આવ્યો. પણ લાલાભાઈએ એ કેસની રકમમાં બીજા 500 ઉમેરી સંસ્થાને પરત આપ્યા.

પેલું વિધાન મારાથીયે ગરીબને મદદ કરજોની વાત તેઓ બરાબર કહે છે.

આવા લાલાભાઈનો પુર પછી પરિચય કરાવનાર કનુભાઈ સંસ્થાના અચ્છા શુભેચ્છક..

કાર્યકર નારણની આ બધા પરિવારો માટે ચિંતા તો મોખરે...

Gangaram Raval congregate at Palanpur MahaSamelan

Karamshibhai Raval’s son Gangram was born with severe birth defects. The severity of these defects is such that Gangaram cannot manage to finish any of his personal tasks on his own. Karamshibhai works as labourer to fend for the family. They tried really hard to see if Gangaram’s physical condition could improve for better but, the doctors had announced that Gangaram will not improve and he will need to be carried like a small child his entire life!!

Gangaram studied till 3rd standard at Khakhal #primary #school but, bringing him to and from school every-day was a challenge because the parents had to be on work also our society is a difficult place for such differently abled children to lead a normal life…. the inquisitiveness and pranks he was subjected to made Gangaram drop out of school.

Ironically, Gangaram had a sharp mind compared to his weak body and Karamshibhai always took pride in him. In the recent floods the wall of his mud house came down, he made numerous appeals to the government for some assistance but no help came his way. The determined soul that he is Gangaram asked his father to carry him all the way to Gandhinagar. The action made the authorities ashamed of themselves who sanctioned Rs. 7,000 as cash dole.

The family is very poor and makes cement blocks at a plant in Thara. Gangaram is of no help so he remains home and keeps playing with mobile phone. He often sends us proposals for financial assistance under the #Swavlamban #program. We plan to support him in starting his own small business and aid him in re-building his house.

“The #poor like us have no space in society, no one hears us neither is anyone interested in helping us out. This is the reason I have decided to participate in this convention and let everyone know ‘we also exist’” Since, his physical condition did not allow him visit everyone in person Gangaram, made a video asking people to participate in the convention and sent it on #whatsapp. He was amongst the first few to arrive early in the morning at the venue.

“Ben, we want to show the world, we also exist!!” said Rameshbhai #Vansfoda from Boratwala. And like Gangaram thousands congregated at Palanpur to be seen and noticed…”

કરમશીભાઈ #રાવળના ઘેર ગંગારામનો જન્મ થયો. જન્મથી જ શારીરિક રીતે #વિકલાંગ ગંગારામ પોતાનું એક પણ કામ જાતે ના કરી શકે. પિતા કરમશીભાઈ મજુરી કરે ને પરિવારનું પુરુ કરે. ગંગારામ ઠીક થાય તે માટે કોશીશેય ઘણી કરી પણ ડોકટરે કહી જ દીધેલું કે ગંગારામને આમ જ નાના છોકરાંની જેમ તેડીને જ આખી જીંદગી કાઢવાની છે ને કમરમશીભાઈએ આ વાત સ્વીકારી લીધી.

ધો.3 સુધી ગંગારામ ખાખલગામની નિશાળમાં ભણ્યો. પણ પછી લેવા મુકવા જવાનું રોજ કોણ કરે ને આપણી સમાજ વ્યવસ્થામાં આવા બાળકો હંમેશાં હાસ્ય કે કુતુહલનું પાત્ર બની રહે છે ગંગારામને અન્યોની નજર કોરી ખાતી એટલે એણે #નિશાળ જવાનું પડતુ મુક્યું.

શારિરીક અનેક ક્ષતીઓ સાથે જીવતા ગંગારામમાં હોંશિયારી ઘણી ને કરમશીભાઈને એનું ઘણું ગુમાન. 2017માં પુર આવ્યું ને ગંગારામના માટીથી ચણેલા ઘરનો અમુક ભાગ પડી ગયો. સરકાર દ્વારા કેસડોલ કે અન્ય મદદ ઘણી રજૂઆત છતાં ના મળી. કંટાળેલો ગંગારામ બાપાના હાથમાં બેસી ઠેઠ ગાંધીનગર સચિવાલયમાં પહોંચી ગયો. અધિકારીઓને શરમ આવી ને ગંગારામને સાત હજાર #કેસડોલ પેટે ચુકવ્યા.

પણ પરિવારની ગરીબાઈ ઘણી. થરામાં સીમેન્ટ બ્લોક પાડવાનું કામ આ પરિવાર કરે. ગંગારામથી કશી મદદ ના થાય એટલે ખાટલે બેસીને બસ બધુ જોયા કરે. #મોબાઈલ ઓપરેટ કરતા આવડે એટલે અમને ગરબડિયા અક્ષરોમાં ધંધા માટે લોન આપવાને અન્ય મદદ માટે લખ્યા કરે.

અમે લોન આપીશું ને ઘરને રીપેર કરવા મદદ પણ કરીશું. પણ ગંગારામનું કહેવું છે કે, ‘આપણા જેવા ગરીબોનું કોય હોભળતું નહીં, ન કોય ન આપણામોં રસ નહીં.’ એટલે ‘અમે પણ છીએ’ કહેવા માટે કરેલા સંમેલનમાં તે હોંશભેર આવ્યો. પોતાના સમાજને સંમેલનમાં આવવા જાતે જઈને સમજાવી શકે તેવી તેની હાલત નહોતી એટલે #વોટ્સઅપમાં ‘હુ પણ સંમેલનમાં જવાનો છુ તમે આવશો ને?’ એવા વિડિયો કરીને બધાને એણે મોકલ્યા. 14મી #ઓક્ટોબરે વહેલાસર આવીને એણે પોતાની જગ્યા રોકી લીધી..

‘બધોન દેખઈએ એવું જ કરવું સ બુની’ બોરતવાળાના રમેશભાઈ વાંસફોડાએ આ કહ્યું ને ગંગારામ જેવા અનેક સ્વજનો બધાને દેખાવવા પાલનપુરમાં ઉમટી પડ્યા.

Our poverty isn’t hidden and yet we can’t feature in BPL list!!

This is Amratbhai Raval’s Bunglow that you see here! His bungalow just has a TV and the documents of his identity that he treasures more than his life. “The BPL list has names of the rich and influential from this village, when we request for including  our name to  the list they reply it is not possible  because we have a TV and cycle parked in the front yard of  our shanty made with twigs and  jute bags. They can see the TV but cannot see our poverty!!  My father died dreaming of a house and I am half way through mine but,  the dream of having a house is hard to come by in this lifetime. 

“All these years we were expecting our governments to help us with it, but…”

We are demanding for inclusion of all families living in shanties and do not have means of livelihood, in the village BPL list…..

બી.પી.એલ. યાદીમાં અમારુ નામ નહીં! અમે તો ભાઈ બંગલાવાળા.

‘BPL યાદીમાં ગામના પૈસાવાળાના નામ લો બોલો? અમે કહીએ કે અમારા નામ નાખો ને તો કે, તમાર ઘેર ટીવી ને #સાયકલ એટલે તમારુ નામ નહીં. મારુ હાળુ કોથળામોંથી બાંધેલું મારુ ઘર ના દેખાયુ ને ટીવી દેખઈ જ્યું. મારા બાપાની આખી જીંદગી ગઈ ને મારી અડધી તોય ઘર ભેગા ના થ્યા ના કોઈ દાડો થવાના એ નક્કી...

#સરકાર અમારી માઈ- બાપ મદદ કરશે એમ ધારેલું પણ.....’

We are Ravaldev, Devipujak and Bajaniya…

We survive in extreme poverty, when we do not have small piece of land to build a tiny house thinking of piece of land to earn livelihood would be ironical. Our work as agricultural laborers have taught us the nuances to farming. Later we began renting farmlands and orchards to work. But, when some natural calamity affects the crop the benefits are given to the framers who own the land! It is us who should be getting this support because we have invested our money and labour in the crop!! The loss is ours not landowners so why is it that they receive  the benefits and not us? We also farm on river beds but here too we face tremendous harassment.

The villages have lot of wasteland. So, can’t there be a policy where a society is formed and such spans of wasteland is given to landless people like us?

The landless farmers Ravaldev, Devipujak, Bajaniya are demanding formation of co-operate societies and allotment of small piece of land to landless farmers like them, they are demanding that the assistance during crop failure should reach them and not the farmers who own the land, they want better policies that allow them to rent the dry river beds to help them grown food!!

We are offer support  their demands, are you?

અમે ગરીબ. અમારાંમાંના મોટાભાગના પાહે રહેવાય જમીન નહીં તો ખેતીની તો ક્યાંથી હોય. પણ ખેતી આવડે ખરી. ભાગીયા તરીકે ખેડુના ત્યાં રેતા રેતા અમે ખેતી કરતાંય શીખ્યા. હવે ઉધેડ જમીન વાવીએ ને ફળાઉ ઝાડની વાડીઓય ઊધેડ રાખીએ. પણ પાકને નુકશાની થાય ઈમાં સરકાર ખેડુને વળતર આપે. ઉધેડ રાખવાવાળા અમે રોકાણ કરીએ તોય નુકશાનીનું વળતર અમને નહીં. આવું કેમ?

ગામમાં ખરાબાની ને પડતર જમીન ઘણી.

જમીન વિહોણા અમને મંડળી બનાવીને ખેતી માટે જમીન ના આપો?

નદીના ભાઠામાં અમે ખેતી કરીએ એમાંય ઘણી હેરાનગતિ...

ઊઘેડ જમીન રાખનાર રાવળ દેવ, દેવીપૂજક, બજાણિયા વગેરેની માંગ,કુદરતી પાક નિષ્ફળતાનું વળતર અમનેય, ખરાબાની જમીનમાંથી અમારી સામૂહીક મંડળીઓ બનાવી ખેતી માટે જમીન આપોની ને નદીના ભાઠાય પટ્ટે આપોની અમારી માંગ.

It was one those regular visits to the settlements when I chanced upon taking a tractor ride to Benavas in a tractor driven by Lalabhai Raval. On the way back, Lalabhai began talking but I observed he was talking in a different manner may be because of the tobacco he had stuffed in his mouth. I am against such addictions and tend to breakout in to a lecture when I find people wasting their health and money to such nuisances.

“Lalabhai, you are such wonderful human being, this habit of chewing tobacco does not suit you!!”

As if Lalabhai was waiting for my sermon, the tractor came to a sudden halt, Lalabhai got off it and took out all the tobacco packets he had in the pocket.

“Ben, you told me to leave tobacco and I am giving it up… I do not want to do anything that you do not approve!!”

I was delighted at his instant action but there was a feeling of apprehension as well giving up addictions is not an easy task. People commit to it in the spur of moment but usually fail hold up to that commitment. Honestly, I was expecting the same with Lalabhai!!!

After 20 days, I was again required to go to Benavas and once again got to meet Lalabhai. It was very natural for me pop up the question, “So, could you give up your tobacco addiction??”

“Yes Ben. Thank god you told me to give up the addiction. I have saved daily expense of Rs. 40-50 and the damage it did to my health. How can I make a wrong promise to you, Ben? That day was the last time I took tobacco…. Now it is going to be never ever!!

Once again, I was required to take a ride on his tractor to reach my destination but, this time there was a kind of #satisfaction and joy. Sometimes I do wonder should I keep on playing the normal ‘don’t take tobacco, gutka, or smoke bidi’ etc etc.. talks, does it make any difference but when we have someone like Lalabhai who was waiting for that nudge I feel, why not?

લાલાભાઈ રાવળ સાથે એમના ટ્રેક્ટરમાં બેસીને બેણાવાસમાં જવાનું થયું. બેણાવાસમાં રહેનારા તમામ સાથે બેઠક કરીને અમે ટ્રેક્ટરમાં પરત ફર્યા. લાલાભાઈએ ફરી વાતો શરૃ કરી પણ તેમના બોલવામાં થોડું જુદા પણુ લાગ્યું. મૂળ તો મોઢાંમાં નાખેલા તમાકુના કારણે આવું થઈ રહ્યાનું લાગ્યું. એમનું આવી રીતે તમાકુ ખાવું જરાય ગમ્યું નહીં. એટલે સાહજિક રીતે જ બોલાઈ ગયું, 

‘લાલાભાઈ તમે ખુબ સરસ માણસ છો આ તમાકુની લત તમને શોભતી નથી.’

આમ તો દરેક જગ્યાએ વ્યસન કરનારને જોવું ને અનાયાસે જ ભાષણ આપવાનું શરૃ કરી દઉ. એવું જ અહીંયા કર્યું. પણ મારુ બોલવાનું પુરુ થયું કે, તુરત ટ્રેક્ટર ચલાવતા ચલાવતા લાલાભાઈ ઊભા થયા ને ખીસ્સામાંથી તમાકુની કેટલીયે પડીકીઓ કાઢી ને, 

‘લો બેન તમે કીધુન તે આજથી મેલ્યું. તમન ના ગમે એવું એકેય કોમ નહીં કરવું.’

મન લાલાભાઈની વાતથી રાજી થયું મે હરખ વ્યક્ત કર્યો પણ વ્યસન છોડવું સહેલું નથી એવું બધા કહે એટલે મને લાગ્યું કદાચ લાલાભાઈથી નહીં છુટે... આજે ઉતાવળમાં આ કહી દીધું પણ...

આ વાત થયાના વીસેક દિવસ પછી પાછી બેણાવાસ ગઈ ને ફરી લાલાભાઈ મળ્યા.

‘શું થયું વ્યસનનું? છુટ્યું કે?’ આ પ્રશ્નના જવાબમાં એમણે કહ્યું, 

‘હા બેન હાવ ગ્યું. સારુ થ્યું તમે કીધુ તે, રોજના ચાલી – પચા રૃપિયાય બચ્યા ન તબીયતને નુકશોન થતું બચ્યું અને હા તમારી હોમે એક ફેરા મુચ્યુ તો મુચ્યુ હવ જીંદગીમાં ફરી કોય દાડો તમાકુ ન હાથ નઈ લાગડું. તમારી આગળ ખોટુ નીમ ના લેવાય...’

એમની સાથે ટ્રેક્ટરમાં ફેર બેસતા ફરી મન હરખાઈ ગયું..

“Look at the vast span, this is where my farm was, it has now turned into a river bed!! During the floods, we took refuge on trees and watched in distress as water swept away our homes with everything in it, our neem trees, everything!! We were planning to install a bore-well and all the required material we had bought the motor, pipes and likes was swept away as well. This land is ruined, it will never be the way it was, not even after 15 years…. Water melons and musk melons is all we can think of growing!” The apathy of the Rawal and Devipujak families of #Umri village was so harsh it could move you to tears….

“In our entire lives, we have never asked for help from anyone and now we need to extend our hands for tarpaulin, food and grains. We were the ones helping others and now we need to rely on charity and support of others!!”

The families are tremendously worried about their future, they are clueless on how to go about and face the consequences of this unprecedented natural calamity, with grace and dignity. They were requesting us to find jobs for their young boys.” The natural disasters of such magnitude do not distinguish between the rich and poor, they simply destroy everything that comes in its path.

We are committed to help these 35 families whose lives have been reduced to living under tarpaulin, rebuild their homes and livelihoods while making sure their dignity remains intact!!

'મારુ અહીંયા ખેતર હતું આજે નદીનો પટ થઇ ગયો. ત્રણ દિવસ ઝાડ માથે બેઠા રહ્યા ને અમારી નજર સામે જ અમારું ઘર, ખેતર અને ઘર આગળ ઉગાડેલા લીમડા ને બીજુ બધું જતું રહ્યું. ખેતીની જમીન હતી એટલે બોરવેલ કરાવવાની હોંશ કરી. પાઇપો, મોટર બધું લાવ્યા હજુ કાલ તો બોરવેલ માટે રિંગ આવવાની હતી ને એની પહેલા પાણી ધસમસતું આવ્યું ને બધું લઇ ગયું. 15 વર્ષ મહેનત કરીયે ને તોય આ જમીન ખેતી લાયક નહિ બને. તરબૂત અને ટેટી પાકે એવો નદીનો ભાઠો થઇ ગયો.'

'કોઈ દિવસ કોઈ સામે હાથ લાંબો નહોતો કર્યો. અમારી પાસે જમીન હતી પણ હવે અનાજ અને તાડપત્રી માંગવી પડી.'

રાજાને રંક બનાવી દેતી કુદરત આગળ આપણે લાચાર... કેમના બેઠા થશું એ ચિંતા સતાવી રહી છે. ક્યાંક નોકરી જડે તો જુવાન છોકરાઓને નોકરીએ લગાડવાની વિનવણી કરી..

અમે બધી જ મદદ કરીશું. પાકા ઘરમાંથી વાદળી પ્લાસ્ટિકમાં આવી ગયેલા 35 પરિવારોને ઘર બાંધી આપીશું.

સ્વમાનપૂર્વક મદદ કરીશું. એમનું જ એમને આપીશું એવા પવિત્રભાવ સાથે. બે બે ભેંસ લઇ શકે એ માટે વગર વ્યાજે લૉન અને ઘર તો બાંધીશું જ..

VSSM helped 30 nomadic families getting Antyoday Ration card

VSSM presented a request  for issuance of  Antyodaya Ration Cards to 30 nomadic families belonging to Vadee, Bharthari, Raval, Gadaliya communities staying in Bhabhar village of Banaskantha district. Fortunately the officials of Banaskantha are extremely understanding and supportive.  The efforts of Mamlatdar Shri. P. K. Oza and Deputy Mamlatdar Shri. Prakashbhai Chaudhry made it possible for these families acquire Antyoday Cards, which were allotted to them on 24th June 2014 by Shri P. K. Oza and Shri. Prakashbhai Chaudhry, officials instrumental in sanctioning the documents. During the program they informed Naranbhai to bring as many such families for Antyoday Ration Cards as possible, “these are teh families that truly deserve an  antyoday ration card and we will ensure the application is processed ASAP. 

We take this opportunity to thank all the officials working on the issue.

vssmની મદદથી ભાભરમાં રહેતાં ૩૦ વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડ ફાળવાયા

બનાસકાંઠાના ભાભરમાં રહેતા વિચરતી જાતિના ખુબ જ દયનીય સ્થિતિમાં રહેતાં ૩૦ વાદી, ભરથરી, રાવળ, ગાડલિયા પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડ મળે એ માટે vssm દ્વારા રજૂઆત કરવામાં આવી હતી. બનાસકાંઠાનું વહીવટીતંત્ર વિચરતી જાતિઓ માટે ઘણું સકારાત્મક છે. મામલતદારશ્રી પી.કે. ઓઝા અને નાયબ મામલતદાર શ્રી પ્રકાશભાઈ ચૌધરીના સક્રિય સહયોગથી તેમના જ હસ્તે આજરોજ તા.૨૪/૦૬/૨૦૧૫ના રોજ આ પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડનું વિતરણ કરવામાં આવ્યું. રેશનકાર્ડ આપતી વખતે બંને અધિકારીએ vssmના કાર્યકર નારણભાઈને કહ્યું, ‘આવા જરૂરિયાત વાળા પરિવારો ધ્યાન પર આવે તો અમારી પાસે લાવજો. આજ પરિવારો જ અંત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડના ખરા હકદાર છે.’ બનાસકાંઠા વહીવટી તંત્રનો આ તબક્કે આભાર વ્યક્ત કરીએ છીએ.. ફોટોમાં રેશનકાર્ડ સાથે પરિવારો..
