Thank you, Chief Minister, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, District Collector Shri Arun Mahesh Babu and the district administration of Rajkot.

The joint efforts of the State Government, District Administration of Rajkot and VSSM have resulted in the construction of a  beautiful residential colony called Sanjeevani Society at Rajkot’s Rampart Beti. As a result, sixty-five nomadic families living in the woodlands for generations will soon move into houses made with love and compassion.

And the Chief Minister himself will grace the occasion of Gruh-Pravesh/House Warming ceremony for these families, overwhelming indeed!

The Prime Minister of India has pledged a home for each homeless family in this country, and the houses at Rampara Beti are an outcome of this pledge.

The entire district administration of Rajkot, especially the District Collector Shri Arunji, is very proactive; apart from the housewarming for 65 families, 400 homeless families belonging to various nomadic communities will also be allotted residential plots. Moreover, the 65 homes at Sanjeevani Society have electricity connections and access to water under Nal-se-Jal Scheme. All of these have been possible because of the enthusiasm of the district administration.

The District Collector and his team of officials visited the Sanjeevani Society recently when the families had the opportunity to express their gratitude (as seen in the picture). 

Apart from the government, our well-wishing donors have also contributed to construct these houses.

To all our well-wishing friends staying in and around Rajkot, who have always expressed the desire to meet us, we cordially invite you all to be part of the house warming ceremony.

રાજ્ય સરકાર, રાજકોટ વહીવટીતંત્ર અને વિચરતા સમુદાય સમર્થન મંચના નેજા હેઠળ રાજકોટના રામપરા બેટીમાં વિચરતી જાતિના 65 પરિવારોની સુંદર મજાની સંજીવની સોસાયટી નિર્માણ પામી છે.  

સદીઓથી વગડો ખુંદનાર આ પરિવારો વહાલપની વસાહતમાં રહેવા જવાના છે.

આ પરિવારોનો ગૃહપ્રવેશ રાજ્યના મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી પોતે કરાવવાના છે.. આનાથી મોટું આ પરિવારોનું સૌભાગ્ય શું હોઈ શકે?

આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીએ આવા ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને પોતાનું પાક્કુ ઘર આપવાનું સ્વપ્ન સેવ્યું ને આ આ આનંદની ઘડી નિર્માણ પામી... 

રાજકોટનું વહીવટીતંત્ર ને ખાસ કરીને કલેક્ટર શ્રી અરુણજી ખુબ જ સક્રિય.  65 પરિવારોના ગૃહપ્રવેશની પ્રક્રિયા તો થશે સાથે સાથે 400 જેટલા વિચરતી જાતિના ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ - આમ તો પાક્કુ સરનામુ આપવાનું આ કાર્યક્રમ થકી થશે...

આ ઉપરાંત આ વસાહતમાં રહેતા 65 પરિવારોને વિજળી મળી, નલ સે જલ યોજના અંતર્ગત પાણીની સુવિધા પણ થઈ ગઈ. બધુ જ સુંદર રીતે તંત્રની સક્રિયતાના લીધે થયું. 

કલેકટર શ્રી અને સમગ્ર તંત્રએ વસાહતની મુલાકાત લીધી અને આ પરિવારોની લાગણી સાંભળી.. જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે..

આ પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવા સરકાર ઉપરાંત VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોએ પણ મદદ કરી. સૌનો ઘણો આભાર...

રાજકોટ આસપાસમાં રહેતા અમારા સ્નેહીજનો જેઓ મળવું છે એવું કહેતા તે તમામને આ કાર્યક્રમમાં  પધારવા ભાવભીનું નિમંત્રણ.. 

આ પરિવારોની પહેલીપેઢી પોતાના એ પણ પાક્કા ઘરમાં રહેવા જઈ રહી છે...

Mittal Patel meets Hiteshbhai

                            

"As the wise saying goes – reap what you sow; I am enduring the results of my Karma. I once used to be a satta-matka gambler. I earned in lacs and was very generous with donations. But my occupation also ruined many families. The reason I am facing such difficult times is my bad Karma. Being a baniya I should never have got into such an illicit profession; unfortunately, I had lost my way." Hiteshbhai's voice choked as he narrated his current condition. I was seated in front of him but couldn't gather words to console him. Both of us remained in silence for a while. Finally, Hiteshbhai gained composure and began talking, "I became very ill; my blood sugar levels shot up. When one of my legs had to be amputated, I questioned my path and gave up my unlawful occupation. I continued to help others and gave away whatever why I had. The empty house and my brother are all I have now!" Hiteshbhai shares as he points at his autistic brother Alkeshbhai.

Given his mental condition, Alkeshbhai clings to Hiteshbhai,  like a child attached to his mother.

"I want him to pass on before I do. I won't be able to die in peace if I go before him." The brothers share a strong bond. 

Their economic condition is so bad that they cannot afford two meals a day, and both cannot work. So an arrangement is made at a Jain lodge where both could go and eat. But the dinner menu of khichri-kadhi was not fit for Hiteshbhai, who is diabetic. So he would buy Parath-sabji for Rs. 50-60 from a lodge in the neighbourhood. The sisters and nephews in the family also would help from time to time. But they still would fall short of money as there were medical expenses to support.

Looking at their condition and need, we had increased the support from Rs.. 1400 to Rs. 2500. "I am a baniya by birth, and I should be giving, not receiving. But this is enough!" Hiteshbhai responded when asked if the amount would be sufficient.

Hitesbhai believes in serving all living beings, he has arranged for water and feed for the  birds in front of his house, if some organisation donates food for cows, he takes the responsibility of feeding them, and the grains he gets through his ration card is also given away to families in need, "I give away because I don't need these supplies and my dharma (moral duties) will not allow me to sell it!"

Listening to Hiteshbhai's life events, the numerous stories I have read of princes turning into paupers came to life. While many never experience remorse for their wrongdoings, Hiteshbhai is repenting for his bad Karma. The almighty will surely forgive him for that; also, the blessings he has accumulated by taking such good care of his younger brother will help him seek forgiveness from the almighty.

 'કરેલા કર્મ નડ્યા વગર નથી રહેતા.. વલ્લી મટકા રમાડતો ત્યારે લાખો કમાતો લોકોને છુટા હાથે મદદેય ઘણી કરી. પણ કેટલાયાના ઘર એ વખતે મારા આ ધંધાના લીધે ઉજડ્યા. તે હાલ જે ભોગવું એ એનું કર્મ. આમ તો વાણિયાનો દીકરો આવા કામોમાં કોઈ દી નો પડે. પણ મારી મતી ફરી ગયેલી તે....'

આટલું કહેતા હીતેશભાઈના ગળે ડૂમો ભરાયો.. એ ઘડીક ચુપ રહ્યા. હું એમની સામે બેઠેલી. એમની વાત સાંભળી મારે શું કહેવું એ મનેય ન સમજાયું. હું મૌન રહી ત્યાં એમણે સ્વસ્થતા કેળવી પાછુ કહ્યું, 

'જ્યારે ભયંકર બિમાર પડ્યો. ડાયાબીટીસ ખુબ વધ્યું, પગ કપાવવાનો વારો આવ્યો ત્યારે જાણે ભાન થઈ.. બધુ મુક્યું. માંગતા જે આવ્યા એ બધાને જે હતું તે બધુ આપ્યું. બસ હવે આ ખોખુ મારી પાસે છે ને આ મારો ભાઈ.'એમ કહીને પાસે બેઠેલ એમના નિજાનંદીભાઈને બતાવ્યા. 

અલ્કેશભાઈની માનસીક સ્થિતિ નબળી. એ હિતેશભાઈની આસપાસ જ રહે. બાળક કેવું માને વળગીને રહે અદ્લ એ રીતે. 

હીતેશભાઈ કહે, 'મારી પહેલાં આ જાય ને તો સારુ. એ વાંહે રહી જશે તો મારો જીવ હખેથી નહીં જાય.' બે ભાઈઓ વચ્ચે અદભૂત પ્રેમ.. 

આર્થિક સ્થિતિ બે ટંક પોત મેળે જમી શકે એવી નથી.વળી  કામ થઈ શકે એ સ્થિતિ પણ નથી. જૈન ભોજનશાળામાં જમવાનું મળે એ માટેની ગોઠવણ કોઈએ કરી આપેલી. પરિવારમાં બહેન, ભાણેજ વગેરે થાય તે નાની મોટી મદદ કરે છતાં તૂટો તો પડે. 

વળી ભોજનશાળામાં સાંજે ખીચડી, કઢી એવું આપે એમને ખીચડી ડાયાબીટીસના કારણે ખવાય નહીં. તે પોતાના ઘરની બાજુમાં આવેલી લોજમાં જઈને સાંજે પચાસ - સાહીઠ રૃપિયામાં શાક, પરોઠા લઈ આવે. પાછી બેઉ ભાઈઓની દવાઓ પણ ચાલે..

અમે મહિને 1400નો ટેકો કરતા. પણ સ્થિતિ જોઈને 2500નો ટેકો કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.. જ્યારે અમે કહ્યું કે આટલી રકમ ચાલશે. ત્યારે એમણે કહ્યું, 'વાણિયાનો દીકરો તો દેતો સારો લાગે આમ કોઈ પાહેથી માંગવું ગમે? પણ આટલું ઘણું..'

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના હીતેશભાઈએ પોતાના ઘરની સામે પક્ષીઓ માટે પાણી અને ચણની વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવી છે. કોઈ સંસ્થા ગાયો માટે રોટલા આપે તે એ લઈ આવે ને ગાયોને આપે. એમની પાસે રાશકાર્ડ છે એ રાશનકાર્ડ પર મળતું અનાજ એ ગામના કોઈ દુઃખી વ્યક્તિને આપી દે છે. એ કહે, મારે એ ખપનું નથી ને વેચુ તો ધરમ લાજે... 

રાજાને રંક થતાનું વાર્તાઓમાં વાંચ્યુ હતું પણ હીતેશભાઈએ એમની જાહોજલાલીની વાતો કરી ત્યારે બધુ પ્રત્યક્ષ થયું ને ત્યાંથી હાલની સ્થિતિ પણ જોઈ...

ખેર દુનિયામાં ઘણા માણસો છે જેમને પોતે કરેલા સારા નરસાનું ભાન નથી જ્યારે હીતેશભાઈને તો ભારે પસ્તાવો છે એટલે એમના કર્મો ઈશ્વર ચોક્કસ માફ કરશે ને પાછી ભાઈની સેવા તો માની જેમ કરે એટલે એ તો મોટુ ભાથુ બાંધાયું...

અમે આવા નિરાધાર માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન અથવા તેમનો નિભાવ ખર્ચ આપીયે.. તમે પણ આવા માવતરોને દત્તક લઈ શકો એ જીવે ત્યા સુધી સાચવી ને અથવા તમારી ક્ષમતા હોય ત્યાં સુધી સાચવીને... અમને એ ટેકો મોટો થશે. આ માટે સંપર્ક 9099936019 પર કરવા વિનંતી..

Dashrath gets a new life, thanks to a concerned and empathetic doctor and VSSM team…

Dashrath belongs to Banaskantha’s Ucchosan village. Unfortunately, some genetic conditions resulted in their losing eyesight for Dashrath and his elder brother Dahyo just a few months after the birth.

Dashrath’s mother also suffers from poor eyesight. Dahyo gained his vision after receiving treatment, but the same could not be done for Dashrath because of the family’s frail economic condition. 

Dashrath studies in the village school; although he is a 9th grader, he cannot read or write.

Benap’s Valabhai informed us about Dashrath’s condition. Valabhai is a very humble human being; he does not prefer his image or name mentioned anywhere for the noble work. Hence, we have refrained from mentioning his surname, lest someone recognises him. He brought Dashrath to Ahmedabad, and made rounds of the Civil hospital but could not manage to get a date for surgery. Benap is the farthermost village of Gujarat, after which begins India Pakistan border. It is challenging for him to travel frequently from this far.

I discussed Dashrath’s case with a dear friend and ophthalmologist, Dr Shwetambari, who asked us to bring him to the hospital she works. We took Dashrath to the hospital and got a date for his surgery. The surgery was costly, but our US-based well-wishing friend Manishaben volunteered to fund the entire surgery. The collective efforts helped us proceed with the treatment; while one eye was operated upon second will follow soon. Dr Shewtambari also played a crucial role in reducing the overall medical expenses for Dashrath’s treatment.

Dashrath and Dahyo recently lost their father; the brothers are avid musicians. Sangeetaben, TDO of Suigaum, gifted musical instruments to them, but finding work on a regular basis is a challenge. 

Dashrath’s mother runs a kiosk in front of their house; we proposed to help them stock their store well so that the mother can at least earn a decent income. “Help us buy a fridge to stock milk and cold drinks,” requested Dashrath’s mother. It was a genuine request, and Manishaben came forward to fund it.

“Didi, please visit my house whenever you are near my village. I wish to work with you once I am old enough.” Dashrath had told me when he had come to meet us at the office before leaving for home after surgery. And I made it a point to visit him whilst I was in Banaskantha recently.

Dashrath’s kith and kin had gathered at his house,  the atmosphere looked festive, and everyone thanked us.

“Why thank me? Valabhai, Manishaben, and Dr Shewtambari are the actual recipients of their gratitude. We have merely facilitated the process with a prayer that we are given more opportunities to be instrumental in helping others.

દશરથ બનાસકાંઠાના ઊચોસણ ગામનો.. 

પરિવારમાં કાંઈક આનુવંશીક બિમારી તે દશરથને એનો મોટો ભાઈ ડાહ્યો બેય ને જન્મ્યાના થોડાક મહિનાથી આંખે દેખાવાનું બંધ થયું. 

દશરથની માને પણ આંખે ઓછુ દેખાય. ડાહ્યાને હોસ્પીલ લઈ ગયા એનું ઓપરેશન થયું ને એની આંખોની રોશની પાછી આવી. પણ દશરથને બતાવવાનું આર્થિક સ્થિતિ નબળી હોવાના કારણે પરિવાર કરી ન શક્યો. 

વળી પાછુ દશરથને ગામની નિશાળમાં દાખલ કર્યો તે દશરથ હવે નવમા ધોરણમાં આવી ગયો. જો કે વાંચતા લખતા એને નથી આવડતું પણ...

આ દશરથની વિગત અમને બેણપના વાલાભાઈએ કહી.. વાલાભાઈ એકદમ ભગવાનના માણસ. એમનું નામ લખાય એ ગમે નહીં ક્યાંય ફોટોમાં આવવું પણ ન ગમે. એટલે વાલાભાઈની જાતિ નથી લખી નહીં તો સૌ એમને ઓળખી જાય.

દશરથને એ પોતે અમદાવાદ લઈ આવ્યા. બે ચાર વાર સિવીલના ધક્કા પણ ઓપરેશનની તારીખ સેટ ન થાય.. બેણપ એટલે પાકિસ્તાનની બોર્ડર પર ત્યાંથી વારંવાર આવવું મુશ્કેલ પડે. 

આવામાં આંખોના ડોક્ટર ને મારા મિત્ર શ્વેતાંબરી સાથે વાત કરી ને એમણે કહ્યું હું જે હોસ્પીટલમાં કામ કરુ છુ ત્યાં લઈ આવો. બસ દશરથને ત્યાં લઈ આવ્યા. ઓપરેશન માટે તારીખ મળી. ખર્ચો ઘણો થાય એમ હતું. ત્યાં અમારા મનીષાબહેન પંડ્યા અમેરીકામાં રહે. સેવાપારાયણના સંસ્કાર એમના પિતા તરફથી એમને મળેલા તે એમણે કહ્યું હું ઓપરેશન માટે મદદ કરીશ. 

ને દશરથનું એક આંખનું ઓપરેશન થઈ ગયું, બીજીનું હવે થશે. જો કે શ્વેતાબંરીના પ્રયત્નોથી હોસ્પીટલે પણ બહુ ઓછા ખર્ચમાં દશરથનું ઓપરેશન કર્યું. 

દશરથના પપ્પા થોડા મહિના પહેલાં જ ગુજરી ગયા. દશરથ અને ડાહ્યો બંને સરસ સંગીત વગાડે. તે સૂઈગામ ટીડીઓ તરીકે કામ કરતા કાજલબેને સંગીતના સાધનો લઈ આપ્યા. પણ એમાં કામ કાયમી ન મળે. 

દશરથી મા ઘર આગળ નાની દુકાન ચલાવે. અમે આ દુકાનમાં વધારે સામાન ભરાવી આપવા કહ્યું જેથી બેઠા બેઠા એ ધંધો કરી શકે. 

પણ દશરથની માએ કહ્યું સામાન નહીં તમે અમને ફ્રીજ લઈ આપો તો અમે દૂધ અને ઠંડા પીણા રાખી શકીએ..

અમને વાત યોગ્ય લાગી. મનિષાબહેને એમાં પણ મદદ કરી. 

દશરથ ઓપરેશન પછી ઘરે જઈ રહ્યો હતો ત્યારે કહેતો ગયેલો મારા ઘર આવજો દીદી અને મારે તમારી સાથે સંસ્થામાં કામ કરવું છે તે હમણાં બનાસકાંઠા ગઈ ત્યારે એને મળવા ખાસ ગઈ..

દશરથના તમામ સગાવહાલા એના ઘરે આવેલા. ઉત્સવ જેવો માહોલ હતો. સૌએ અમારો આભાર માન્યો...

મને થયું આમાં કોનો આભાર માનવાનો હું તો નિમિત્ત માત્ર. બાકી વાલાભાઈ, મનીષાબહેન, શ્વેતાબંરી આ આભારના સાચા હકદાર..

પણ  ખેર કુદરત આવા કાર્યોમાં નિમિત્ત બનાવે તેવી પ્રાર્થના...

Mittal Patel visits Balodhan tree plantation site

Our continued tree plantation drive in Banaskantha is gradually catching momentum and making inroads into villages in the interiors.

The community and leadership of Balodhan village had called us for the tree plantation drive in 2021. The village crematorium was selected as the plantation site. More than 2000 trees were planted on the land that was once filled with ganda-baval trees. And a vriksh-mitr had been appointed for three years. In 2 years, the entire site will be beaming with native trees. VSSM does take special care to ensure that we get optimum results from such drives. Still, it would not be possible without the proactive support and participation of the village leadership and community.

The plantation at Balodhan village was supported by respected Shri Maheshbhai Shroff (Novex Polyfilm Pvt. Ltd).

It is important that we take immediate actions to plant as many trees as possible (if not for ourselves, at least for the sake of the coming generations) in each village  and create woodlands of 5 to 10 thousand trees.

વૃલક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું અમારુ અભીયાન બનાસકાંઠામાં હવે ધીમે ધીમે સમજણ પૂર્વક પ્રસરી વિસ્તરી રહ્યું છે..

બલોધણગામના લોકોએ પોતાના ગામના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા અમને 2021માં આમંત્રણ આપ્યું. ગાંડા બાવળથી ભરેલા આ સ્મશાનમાં અમે 2000 થી વધુ વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા ને એના ઉછેર માટે ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી વૃક્ષમિત્ર રાખ્યા..

બે વર્ષમાં આખુ સ્મશાન સરસ હરિયાળુ થઈ જશે. પણ ગામની ભાગીદારી અને સમજણ સારી એટલે આ કાર્ય થઈ શક્યું..

આ કાર્ય માટે અમને અમારા આદરણીય શ્રી મહેશભાઈ શ્રોફ (નોવેકસ પોલિ ફિલ્મ પ્રા લી.)એ મદદ કરી. 

આ ધરતી લીલીછમ થાય તે આજની તાતી જરૃરિયાત બસ આપણે સૌ વૃક્ષોના મહત્વને સમજીએ ને દરેક ગામમાં ઓછામાં ઓછા પાંચ થી દસ હજારના ગ્રામવન ઊભા કરીએ... આપણી આવનારી પેઢી માટે આ કરવું અત્યંત જરૃરી..

“We have to meet Aarab Ma,” Mohanbhai tells me while we were in Harij,  recently.

Accompanied by two friends, we walk down to her house after parking the car at a bit of a distance.

Watching us arrive, Aarab Ma laid down a charpoy. And both of us sit on it. While we were talking, many women walked up to her house. Almost 15-20 people gathered. Everyone remained quiet. But one of the talkative ones spoke,

“I left all my work and came here; I thought someone was here to…”

“We also thought so!” some replied in chorus.

The Hindu neighbours of Aarab Ma take good care of her. Her husband had passed away when their daughter was six years old. So she single-handedly raised her daughter and married her off.

“My neighbours are my family; they have stood beside me through thick and thin. They have helped me financially, even to build this house. I am fortunate. I don’t have a son, but this Pareshbhai compensates for it. Even in the middle of the night, he brings me to the doctor when I am unwell.” Aarab Ma tells me.

This was so amazing.

VSSM had supported Pareshbhai in buying an auto-rickshaw. He is someone who puts aside some money to help individuals like Aarab ma. Our team member Mohanbhai too, is someone who shares similar sentiments. Due to her age, Aarab ma is unable to work. Pareshbhai requested us to give her the monthly ration kit. We provide her with that, but the neighbours take good care of her. Old age can be lonely, but the beautiful neighbours of Aarab Ma provide her warm and loving company.

It was a delight to witness such pure and beautiful relations held together by nothing but love.

હારીજમાં આરબમાં રહે. હું હારીજ ગઈ ત્યારે અમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ કહ્યું, બેન આપણે આરબમાંને મળવાનું છે. ને હું ને મારી સાથેના બે મિત્રો અમે પહોંચ્યા આરબમાં જયા રહેતા ત્યાં. અમારી ગાડી થોડી છેટે ઊભી રાખી અમે સૌ પહોંચ્યા આરબ મા પાસે. 

અમને જોઈને આરબ માએ ખાટલો પાથર્યો હું ખાટલે બેઠી ને મારી સાથે એ પણ બેઠા. અમે વાતો કરતા હતા ત્યાં ધીમે ધીમે ઘણા બહેનો એક પછી એક આરબમાના ફળિયામાં આવ્યા. લગભગ પંદર વીસ લોકો આવી ગયા. પણ અમને જોઈને કોઈએ કશું કહ્યું નહીં. પણ એક બેન જરા બોલકણા તે એમણે કહ્યું, 

'લો હું મુ તો બધુ કોમ પડતું મેલી આઈ.. મન ઈમક્ આરબ માન કોક....

બધાએ એમની સામે જોયું ને પછી કહયું, 'અમન પણ ઈમજ થ્યું...'

આ આરબમાના પડોશી હીંદુ જે એમનું ઘણું ધ્યાન રાખે. આરબમાંની એકની એક દીકરી છ વર્ષની થઈ ને એમના ઘરવાળાએ આ દુનિયામાંથી વિદાય લીધી. એકલા હાથ મહેનત કરી એમને દીકરી મોટી કરી એને પરણાવી. 

આરબ મા કહે, 'મારા પડોશી મારો પરિવાર. આ ઘર ઊભુ કરવાથી લઈને મારા સુખ, દુઃખમાં બધા મારી પડખે રહ્યા. સૌએ આર્થિક મદદ પણ કરી. હું નસીબવાળી. દીકરો નથી પણ મને આ પરેશભાઈ દીકરાની કમી વર્તાવા ન દે. રાતવરત બિમાર પડુ તો એની રીક્ષામાં નાખી દવાખાને લઈ જાય...'

કેવી ઉત્તમ વાત... પરેશભાઈ રાવળ અમે એમને રીક્ષા ખરીદવા લોન આપેલી. એ જે પણ કમાય એમાંથી થોડું ધર્માદુ કરે ને આ રીતે આરબ મા જેવાની સેવા પણ.. અમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈ પણ એવા જ લાગણીવાળા...

આરબમાથી કામ ન થાય. તે એમને દર મહિને રાશન આપવા પરેશભાઈએ વિનંતી કરી ને અમે આપીયે. પણ ખરુ  ધ્યાન તો પડોશી જ રાખે.. ઘડપણમાં એકલું વધુ લાગે પણ આરબમાના નસીબે એમને સરસ પડોશ મળ્યો છે જે એમને એકલું લાગવા જ નથી દેતો.  

એક અનોખી પ્રેમની સગાઈ જોઈને જીવ રાજી થયો...

We cannot afford to make hue and cry about the water woes only during the summers and remain blissfully unaware of it for the rest of the year. It is high time we acknowledge the importance of water and pours our hearts and soul into saving this precious natural resource. It is our collective responsibility to work towards conserving water before it is too late.

The groundwater tables in north Gujarat have dropped to alarmingly low levels. We are drawing more water from the earth than we recharge. We must focus on creatingi new water bodies in each village.

Our wise old ancestors had been very mindful in their approach towards consuming water; they have handed us the rich legacy of community lakes, with each village having 5-7 lakes. It is the legacy they left for their next generation, but what are we planning to hand over to our coming generation is for us to decide.

These lakes were the best containers to hold water and recharge the groundwater tables. Unfortunately, the lakes began to fill up with soil, and we ignored to desilt them. We did not consider it necessary to maintain these water bodies because it was easier for us to draw underground water. The rural communities have now realised that if we will not recharge the groundwaters, leaving the village is the only option left.

After VSSM launched its Participatory Water Management efforts in 2017, it has desilted 170 lakes through its relentless efforts to conserve rainwater.

Recently, I was in Dhanera’s Shera village. Rameshbhai, the Sarpanch of the village, wanted to ensure that the largest lake of their village be deepened to be able to hold maximum water. One precondition VSSM puts forward is that the excavated soil should be ferried away by the community while VSSM bears the JCB expense to excavate the soil. Rameshbhai and the community mobilised the funds to transport the excavated soil,  and our well-wishing friends at Ajmera Reality enabled us to realise Rameshbhai’s wish. We are grateful to Ajmera Group for their thoughtful support.

We hope for each village to wake up to this urgent need to conserve rainwater and work towards repairing the traditional sources of water. We owe it to our coming generations!! Our responsibility is to save each drop of water falling from the sky.

પાણીના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવવાની જહેમત કરવાનો સમય આવી ગયો છે..

ખાલી ઉનાળો આવે એટલે પાણી પાણીની રાડો પાડીયે એ નહીં ચાલે.. પેલું પાણી પહેલાં પાળ બાંધવાનું પણ કરવું પડશે..

ઉત્તર ગુજરાત ભૂગર્ભજળ જોખમી સ્થિતિએ પહોંચ્યા. રીચાર્જ થાય એની સામે ઉલેચાવાનું બહુ થાય. આવામાં એક ગામમાં મોટા મોટા જળાશયો પાણી માટેના નિર્માણ થાય તે જરૃરી. 

આપણા ઘૈડિયા બહુ સમજદાર એટલે એક એક ગામમાં ઓછામાં ઓછા પાંચ સાત તળાવો એમણે ગાળ્યા.  ભાવી પેઢી એમને ગાળો ન ભાંડે એ માટે તળાવરૃપી વારસો આપણને એમણે આપ્યો. હવે આ વારસો આપણે આપણી આગલી પેઢીને આપવો કે નહીં તે આપણે નક્કી કરવાનું...

આ તળાવો પાણી રીચાર્જ - ભૂગર્ભમાં ઉતારવાનું ઉત્તમ વાસણ.. પણ આપણે આ વાસણની દશા બગાડી દીધી. તળાવો કાંપથી પુરાયા ને આપણે એને ફરી ખોદવાનું માંડી વાળ્યું મૂળ પેલું ભૂગર્ભમાંથી બોરવેલ વાટે પાણી મળતુ ને એટલે.. પણ હવે ખેડૂતોને સમજાયું કે ઉલેચેલું પાછુ નહીં આપીએ તો ગામ ખાલી કરી જવાનો વારો આવશે..

બસ તળાવો ગળાવવાનું આ અભીયાન અમે 2017થી સધન રીતે શરૃ કર્યું. 170 થી વધુ તળાવો ગાળ્યા ને આજેય આ કાર્ય અવીરત ચાલુ.

હમણાં ધાનેરાના શેરાગામમાં જવાનું થયું. ત્યાના સરપંચ રમેશભાઈ જાગૃત તે એમણે પોતાના ગામનું તળાવ કે જ્યાં મહત્તમ પાણી ભરાય છે એ છીછરુ થઈ ગયેલું ગળાવવાની ખેવના રાખી. તળાવની માટી એવી ફળદ્રુપ પણ નહીં ખેડૂતો નહીં ઉપાડે તો અમે તળાવ નહીં ગાળીએ એવી અમારી શરત. રમેશભાઈને ગ્રામજનોએ માટી ઉપાડવા ફાળો કરીને પૈસા ભેગા કર્યા. આમ અમારા સ્વનજ અજમેરા રીઆલ્ટી એન્ડ ઈન્ફ્રા ઈન્ડિયા લી.ની મદદથી સરસ રીતે તળાવ ગળાઈ રહ્યું છે..આભાર અજમેરા ગ્રુપની આ લાગણી માટે..

દરેક ગામ આ કાર્ય માટે જાગૃત થાય પોતાની રીતે પોતાના વરસાદી પાણી સંગ્રહ કરવાના વાસણો સરખા કરે તે ઈચ્છનીય. નહીં તો આવનારી પેઢી આપણને વઢશે.. ને કહેશે, મારા દાદા તમારા માટે તળ સાબદા મૂકીને ગયા પણ તમે શું કર્યું?  આવો વખત આવે તે પહેલાં ચેતીએ પાણીના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવવા તળાવો ગળાવીએ..

How important is a ration card for families who barely manage a square meal?

Asarva bridge is one of the many over bridges of Ahmedabad under which many homeless families live in makeshift huts. The families have strived to acquire ration cards for years, but their requests never reached relevant officials. As a result, they never had one.

Shri Shaid Saheb, Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, is a compassionate individual, and so is the department. He has given special instructions that no family from nomadic and de-notified communities should be left without a ration card. He also ensured that all got covered under NFSA.

Recently, Shri Jaswantbhai Jegoda was appointed as Civil Supply Chief of Ahmedabad city. Along with Shri Jegoda the entire team is sensitive to the needs of the poor.

The matter of families living under the Asarva overbridge was brought to the notice of these officials by VSSM, who was swift with resolving it. Shri Ronakbhai Modi, Dr Ravindra Solanki and their entire team arrive at the site to finish the required paperwork. VSSM’s Madhuben and Hirenbhai also joined the effort. The teams remained busy until 10 PM to fill up the forms and enrol the names on NFSA list so that the families begin to receive supplies the next day. The officials also did not take the form charge of Rs 20 from each family. Instead, they paid it from their pockets. This gesture spread cheer among the community. They did not expect such a long pending issue to be accomplished so soon. Well, we had to be grateful to compassionate officials for this achievement.  

The community members arrived at our office after receiving the ration cards and shared their sentiments on the same.

We hope that these officials get to be helpful to many such people in need.

રાશનકાર્ડ જેના ઘરમાં એક સાંધતા તેર તૂટે એના માટે કેટલું અગત્યનું?

અમદાવાદના અસારવામાં બ્રીજની નીચે ઘણા પરિવારો રહે. વર્ષોથી રેશનકાર્ડ મેળવવા એ લોકો મથે પણ યોગ્ય જગ્યાએ, યોગ્ય અધિકારી પાસે એમની વાત ન પહોંચે એટલે પરિણામ ન મળે.

અન્ન નાગરિક પૂરવઠા વિભાગ અને ખાસ તો તેમના સચિવ શ્રી શાહિદ સાહેબ ખુબ  સંવેદનશીલ અધિકારી. તેઓની ખાસ સૂચના વિચરતી જાતિનો એક પણ પરિવાર રેશનકાર્ડ વગર નો ન રહેવા જોઈએ વળી સૌને NFSAમાં જોડવા પણ એ તાકીદ કરે. 

આવામાં અમદાવાદ શહેરના પૂરવઠા અધિકારી તરીકે શ્રી જશવંતભાઈ જેગોડાની નિમણૂક થઈ. આ્રમ તો તેમની આખી ટીમ લાગણીવાળી..

અસારવામાં રહેતા પરિવારોની રેશનકાર્ડ મેળવવા માટેની મથામણ અમે વિભાગ સુધી પહોંચાડી પછી તો શું  સંવેદનશીલ વ્યક્તિઓ જ્યાં બેઠા હોય ત્યાં ઝાઝુ કહેવાનું નથી હોતું. પૂરવઠા વિભાગમાંથી શ્રી રોનકભાઈ મોદી, ડો.રવીન્દ્ર સોલંકી અને તેમની ટીમ વસાહતમાં રેશનકાર્ડના ફોર્મ લઈને આવી. એમની મદદમાં જોડાયા VSSM ના કાર્યકર મધુબહેન અને હીરેન.. રાતના દસ વાગ્યા સુધી ફોર્મ ભરાયા ને NFSAમાં નામ ચડાવવાની પ્રક્રિયા પણ કરી જેથી બીજા દિવસથી રાશન મળવાનું શરૃ થઈ જાય. 

ફોર્મ માટેના 20 રૃપિયા છાપરાંમાં રહેતા પરિવારોની દરિદ્ર સ્થિતિ જોઈને અધિ્કારી એ ન લીધા. એમણે પોતાના ગજવાના આપ્યા.. 

ફોર્મ ભરાયાના બે દિવસમાં 50 ઉપરાંત પરિવારોને રેશનકાર્ડ મળ્યા.. લોકો તો રાજી રાજી.. આટલું ઝડપથી કામ થાય તેવી તેમને અપેક્ષા નહોતી પણ અધિકારીગણની લાગણીથી આ થયું. તેમની આ લાગણીને પ્રણામ...કાર્ડ મળ્યા પછી હરખ વહેંચવા સૌ અમારા કાર્યલય પર આવ્યા એ વેળા ઘણી ભાવુક વાતો એક રેશનકાર્ડને લઈને થઈ... 

ખેર અધિકારીગણ માટે કુદરત તેમના હસ્તે વધારે લોકોનું શુભ કરાવે તેવી પ્રાર્થના...

Benap, one of the remotest village of Banaskantha is a village of extremes. Extreme cold, extreme heat and acute water shortage are the norm in this village.

In 2019, Benap’s sarpanch Paragbhai had requested for bringing the tree plantation drive to their village. As a result, we planted trees around the village crematorium. We were a little concerned if they would be cared for, but the vrukshmitra has done an excellent job, and Paragbhai has efficiently supervised the entire effort. Three years later, we have a small woodland growing around the crematorium.

In 2021,  Paragbhai shared a desire to raise a second woodland. The humble community members from the village set aside 9 acres of land. The District Development Officer of Banaskantha helped us clean the space, dig pits for plant trees, and buy saplings. The village community and our dear Krishnakant Uncle and Dr Indira auntie supported to enable us to plant and raise  10,000 trees and create a woodland named Sanjeev Upvan.

It has been eight months since we planted the trees to create Sanjeev Upvan, the second woodland in Benap. The care and nurturing by tree caregiver  Sava Ba, Sarpanch Paragbhai, the proactive youth of Benap and VSSM’s Bhagwan have all helped create a beautiful and calming woodland. The height of the trees has surprised us as well. At one point, we were uncertain if the trees would take roots in this harsh and arid land, but looking at the healthy and happy trees, we are sure of a thriving woodland coming up. The goodwill of all who have supported it has helped create wonders.

A site filled with the notorious gando-baval, Sanjeev Upvan is a sight to behold. Guava, Jamun, Neem, Gulmohar, Peepul, Indian Fig tree, Saru, Peltaform trees sway in joy as if they are eagerly waiting for their inhabitants to arrive.

We have created a small woodland and offered it to Mother Earth, and I wish you spare some resources to develop such forests in your village. A forest that will be home to thousands of living beings. If we can create such woodlands in the rain-starved Banaskantha, the Rain Gods will be compelled to bless the region. So let us all commit to raising Vruksh Mandir in every village.

વૃક્ષમંદિર નિર્માણ..

બનાસકાંઠાનું છેવાડ આવેલું ગામ બેણપ. ટાઢ અને તડકો બેય તોબા પોકારી દે એવા અહીં પડે. પાણીની અછતવાળો વિસ્તાર. ગામમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા સરપંચ પરાગભાઈએ અમને 2019માં કહેણ મોકલ્યું ને અમે સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. જો કે શંકા નહીં ઉછરેની હતી પણ વૃક્ષમિત્રની મહેનત ને સરપંચની દેખરેખના લીધે સૂકા વિસ્તારમાં નાનકડુ વન ઊભુ થઈ ગયું. 

પછી તો હિંમત આવી. 2021માં પરાગભાઈને બીજુ એક વન ઊભુ કરવા જગ્યા આપવા કહ્યું ને ગામના સજ્જન માણસોએ હોંશે હોંશે 9 એકરથી વધુ જગ્યા આપી. બનાસકાંઠાના જિલ્લા વિકાસ અધિકારીએ જગ્યાની સફાઈ, વૃક્ષો વાવવા ખાડા કરવામાં મદદ કરી. ઘણા વૃક્ષો પણ ખરીદીને આપ્યા. બાકીની મદદ ગ્રામજનો ને અમારા પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા નેેે ડો.ઈન્દીરા મહેતાએ કરી ને સરસ મજાનું સંજીવ ઉપવન ઊભુ થયું જ્યાં 10,000 વૃક્ષો લહેરાઈ રહ્યા છે. ગામમાં અમે ઊભુ કરેેલું આ બીજુ ઉપવન એમાં વૃક્ષ વાવે આઠ મહિના થયા છે પણ અમારા વૃક્ષમિત્ર સવા બા સરપંચ પરાગભાઈ ને ગામના અન્ય ઉત્સાહી યુવાનોની સક્રિયતા ઘણી વળી અમારા કાર્યકર ભગવાનની પણ દેખરેખ એટલે વૃક્ષો સારી રીતે ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. 

વૃક્ષોની ઊંચાઈ પણ નવાઈ લાગે તેવી.. આ વિસ્તાર જે રીતનો એ જોતા આવું સરસ વન ઊભુ થશે એની શંકા  હતી પણ થઈ ગયું. કદાચ મદદ કરનાર સૌનો પુણ્યભાવ પણ કામે લાગ્યો.

જામફળ,જાંબુ, કાશીદ, લીમડો, ગુલમહોર, પીપળ, સરૃ, ઉમરો વગેરે જેવા વૃક્ષો સંજીવ ઉપવનમાં લહેરાઈ રહ્યા છે. એક વખત આ જગ્યા ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલી હતી. ત્યાં હવે જાતજાતના ફૂલ ફળવાળા વૃક્ષો ઉગ્યા છે. આ વૃક્ષો મોટા થશે ને હજારો જીવોનું આ ઘર બનશે.. 

બેણપ ગામે નાનકડુ જંગલ બનાવીને મા ધરતીનેે આપવાનું કર્યું. તમે પણ તમારા ગામમાં એક નાનકડુ જંગલ - ભગવાનના ભાગરૃપે કાઢો તેવું ઈચ્છુ જ્યાં અબોલ જીવો કોઈ ભય વગર રહી શકે.  ગાઢ જંગલ 10000 થી 15000 વૃક્ષોનું ગામે ગામ થશે તો ઓછા વરસાદવાળા બનાસકાંઠામાં ભગવાને વરસવા મજબૂર થવું પડશે એ નક્કી તો ચાલો ગામે ગામ વૃક્ષમંદિરોનું નિર્માણ કરીએ...

The wise and aware community leaders of various villages have begun sending requests to VSSM for launching a tree plantation campaign in their respective villages. VSSM calls the plantation sites – vruksh-mandir/tree temples.

Maheshbhai from Tharad’s Duva village called us, and we reached the village to inspect the site around the village crematorium. The community had initiated clearing the area of wild baval trees and building a boundary wall around the chosen location. They had also made arrangements for water to set up the drip irrigation system.

VSSM will dig pits to plant trees, bring trees, install a drip irrigation system, and appoint and pay the vriksh-mitr (caretaker of the trees).

Duva’s Maheshbhai is a very humble and aware individual; he understands that the more vruksh-mandirs we raise, the better it is for Mother Earth. So he has convinced the sarpanch and community of Kalash Luvana village to raise a tree temple in their town.

We need individuals like Mahesbhai, who can play the catalyst and convince more villages to join in.

If the community of Banaskantha wakes up to this acute need for planting trees, we will soon be able to make Banaskantha green again!

પોતાના ગામમાં વૃક્ષમંદિર ઊભા કરવા ગામના જાગૃત વ્યક્તિઓના કહેણ આવવા માંડ્યા. 

થરાદના ડુવા ગામથી મહેશભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો ને અમે પહોંચ્યા ડુવાનું સ્મશાન જોવા. ખૂબ મોટુ સ્મશાન. અમારી શરત પ્રમાણે સ્મશાન ફરતે દિવાલ કરેલી ને ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલા સ્મશાનમાંથી ગાંડા બાવળ કાઢવાનું પણ ગામના જાગૃત નાગરિકોએ ભેગા મળીને શરૃ કર્યું. આ સિવાય પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા પણ ગામે કરી. 

અમે ખાડા કરી, વૃક્ષો લાવી વાવવાનું, ડ્રીપ લગાડવાનું ને ત્રણ વર્ષ માટે વૃક્ષમિત્રની નીમણૂક કરી વૃક્ષની માવજત કરવાનું કરીશું. 

ડુવાના મહેશભાઈ એકદમ સજ્જન માણસ ને જાગૃત પણ ખરા અમે એમને વધારે વૃક્ષમંદિર બનાવવા અન્ય પરિચીત ગામોને તૈયાર કરવા કહ્યું ને એમણે કળશ લુવાણાગામના સરપંચ શ્રી સાથે વાત કરીને ત્યાં વૃક્ષો વવાય તે માટે સૌને તૈયાર કર્યા. 

મહેશભાઈની જેવા જાગૃત નાગરીકોની અમને જરૃર જેઓ આંગળી ચિંધવાનું કરે. 

બસ બનાસકાંઠા જાગે ને સહયોગ કરે તો આપણે સૌ સાથે મળીને એને હરિયાળો કરીશું એ નક્કી..

“The community lake of our village receives enough rainwater, but the lake is very shallow and cannot hold the water it receives. If we deepen the lake, it will be able to serve its purpose. The community has wanted to deepen the lake for a long time; who would do it was the question that bothered us. Our desire was true; God answered our prayers and sent you all to help us deepen the lakes.” The Lakhani block’s Madal village community is wise enough to understand the gravity of the situation and work towards water conservation. VSSM is working with the local community to deepen the village lake.

VSSM covers the JCB cost while the community takes up the responsibility of lifting the excavated soil. If each village leadership comes forward, we would be able to deepen many lakes and make them fit to hold water through the year.

Water and trees are remembered the most when we are struck by the scorching summer sun, but our efforts to conserve these two have always remained deficient.

We plant and raise trees and also build water temples/deepen the village lakes. It is essential, that we hand over not just material affluence but also a legacy of greener and bluer earth to our coming generations.

We appeal to you to join our mission or undertake independent efforts to conserve every drop of water.

અમારા ગામના આ તળાવમાં વરસાદી પાણી ઘણું આવે પણ અમારુ આ તળાવ છીછરુ. ઝાઝુ પાણી ન ભરાય. ણ જો તળાવ સરખુ ખોદાય તો એમાં ઘણું પાણી ભરાય. ઘણા વખતથી અમારી આ ઈચ્છા હતી પણ શરૃ કોણ કરે એવું થતું. ભલુ થજો ભગવાનનું તે અમારી ભાવના હતી તે તમને અમારી કને મોકલી આપ્યા'

વાત છે લાખણી તાલુકાના મડાલ ગામના લોકોની. ગામની સીમનું તળાવ અમે ગામલોકો સાથે ભાગીદારીમાં ઊંડુ કરી રહ્યા છીએ. જેસીબીનો ખર્ચ અમે આપીએ ને માટી ઉપાડવાનું ગામલોકો પોતાની રીતે કરે..

દરેક ગામ આવી ભાગીદારી માટે તૈયાર થાય તોય ઘણા તળાવો ઊંડા થઈ જાય એ નક્કી..

ઉનાળાની શરૃઆત થઈ રહી છે. કાળઝાળ ગરમી પડશે ત્યારે આપણને છાંયડો ને પાણી બેય યાદ આવશે.. પણ આ બેય કાયમ મળે તે માટે આપણા પ્રયત્નો ઊણા..

અમે વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવાનું ને સાથે જળમંદિરો - તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ. આવનારી પેઢીને ધનદોલતની સાથે સાબદા પાણીના તળ આપવા આ કરવું જરૃરી... તમે પણ આ કાર્યમાં જોડાવ અથવા તમારી રીતે ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવવાના આયોજનો કરો તેમ ઈચ્છીએ..
