Mittal Patel visited these families to see the alloted land 

“If you cannot find a solution to our problem, tell us so. But please don’t ask us to be patient, how long do we need to remain patient?”

“Who are you?”

“My name is Natubhai. I have called up to convey that  you just make promises but don’t work towards fulfilling those promises!”

“What work?”

“In Visnagar, the government destroyed our shanties, we complained to you regarding the same. It has been four years but you have not taken any action.”

“You are right, but our work is to inform the government  and continue to follow up until the issue is redressed. We have been following up your case with the government. We are confident that one day all of you will have an address to call home.”

“Leave it, you will  not be able to do anything!”

“I am no the Chief Minister of Gujarat, nor am I an official authorised to issue residential plots. My job is to represent your issues to the concerned authorities and I will continue to follow it up until it has been solved.”

But Natukaka was not prepared to listen me out, he continued to spew in anger. It did annoy me,  but I allowed him to vent out his anger. He did not know I was not  part of any government.

After 6 years of representation, Natukaka and 120 families were recently sanctioned residential plots in Visnagar. On insistence of these families I paid them a visit, to see the allotted land as well as  discuss about the construction of houses on the allotted land.

“Ben, I am Natubhai!” Kaka introduced himself after walking up to me.

I smiled.

“I was a little drunk that day, the frustration of moving with bags and baggage made me shout at you.”

“You can vent our your anger, Kaka. I have not taken it to my heart.”

Natukaka and his wife live alone, on their own as they do not have any children to depend on. Growing age had impacted their ability to work.  After our Tohid and Rizwan recommended,   we provided a monthly ration kits to them. But on meeting Kaka I told him, “Kaka, you will still be able to work for a year or so. Start a vegetable cart along with a weighing scale. We will provide you with weighing scale. It would not have been possible for you to find work if you had been staying in a village. However, it will be easy for you to sell vegetables in Visnagar. How about accepting charity only when your body refuses to work?”

“I agree with you completely, but I don’t have funds to buy a hand-cart. Can you buy it for me?”

Natukaka refused to accept the ration kit for the second month. This month, we will buy him a hand cart.

Many have asked about my learnings of working with this society.  

Each day I  learn something new. My interaction with Natukaka taught me humility.

 I hope the government works hard to fulfil our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s dream of housing for all the homeless by the end of 2022. Recently, the families living in Bavla experienced the same plight as the families of Visnagar. And this was not for the first time, it has happened twice before. We have also filed applications for allotment of plots to these families. Hopefully, they soon receive plots.  

'તમારાથી ના થાય તો ના પાડી દો પણ ઓમ ધીરજ રાખો ધીરજ રાખો ક્યો સો તે મોણસ ચો હુદી ધીરજ રાખ?'

'તમે કોણ?'

'હું કોણ તે નટુભઈ.. તમે ખાલી વાયદા જ કરો. કોમ બોમ તમારાથી ના થાય'

'શું કામ?'

'વીસનગરમાં અમારા છાપરાં સરકારે તોડ્યા. એ વખતે તમન રજૂઆત કરેલી. પણ ઈન ચાર વરહ થ્યા તમે કોય ના કર્યું.. '

વાત સાચી પણ અમારુ કામ સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરવાનું ને જ્યાં સુધી કામ ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી એની પાછળ રહેવાનું અને એ અમે કરી રહ્યા છીએ. વળી તમને સરનામુ મળશે. એવો મને વિશ્વાસ છે'

'કોય ના થાય તમારાથી...'

'હું રાજ્યની મુખ્યમંત્રી કે પ્લોટ આપવા માટે જવાબદાર અધિકારી નથી, કે નથી મારા હાથમાં કોઈ સત્તા હું તો માત્ર રજૂઆત કરી શકુ અને એ રજૂઆત કામ પૂર્ણ ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી હું કરીશ'

પણ નટુકાકાને મારુ ક્યાં સાંભળવું હતું. એ તો ઘણુંયે અનાપસનાપ બોલ્યા. એ વખતે તો મને ગુસ્સો પણ આવેલો પણ પછી થોડુ વિચારતા એમનો બળાપો સાચો હોવાનું લાગ્યું. હું સરકાર નથી એ વાત એ ક્યાં જાણે..

હમણાં નટુકાકાને એમની સાથેના 120 પરિવારોને લગભગ છ વર્ષની મહેનત પછી વિસનગરમાં રહેવા જમીન ફળવાઈ. લોકોનો આગ્રહ એટલે ફળવાયેલી જમીન જોવા ગઈ મૂળ ઘર કેવા બાંધીશું તેની ચર્ચા જ કરવા. ત્યાં કાકા ધીરે રહીને મારી પાસે આવ્યા ને કહ્યું, 

'બેન હું નટુભઈ...'

મે સરસ સ્મીત કર્યું.. કાકા કે, 'એ વખતે થોડુ પી ગ્યો'તો એટલે બોલાઈ જ્યું. રોજ લબાચા લઈને ઓમથી તેમ ખસેડવાનું થાય એટેલ...'

'તમે બોલી જ શકો કાકા.. મને માઠુ નથી લાગ્યું...'

નટુકાકા ને એમના પત્ની બેઉ એકલા રહે. નિસંતાન. ઉંમર થઈ કામ બહુ થાય નહીં. એટલે અમારા તોહીદ અને રીઝવાને કાકાને દર મહિને રાશનકીટ આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. તે અમે કીટ આપી. 

પણ કાકાને મળ્યા પછી મે કહ્યું,  'કાકા હજુ એકાદ વર્ષ મહેનત થાય એમ છે. તમે શાકભાજીની લારી કરો. લારી ને વજનકાંટો, વજનિયા અમે આપીએ. તમે ગામડાંમાં રહેતા હોત તો કામ ન મળત. પણ વીસનગરમાં રહો છો તો શાકભાજી વેચવાનું થઈ શકશે. જ્યારે હાથ પગ સાવ ના પાડે ત્યારે ધર્માદુ લઈએ તો કાકા?'

'તમારો વિચાર એકદમ બરાબર. લારી માટે પૈસા નથી તમે લઈ આપો હું ધંધો કરીશ..'

આમ એક રાશનકીટ લીધા પછી બીજી લેવાની એમણે ના પાડી. લારી તો આ મહિનામાં લઈ આપીશું.

 ઘણા પુછે સમાજ સાથેના કામે તમને શું શીખવ્યું?

હું કહુ છુ નીત ઘણું શીખુ છુ.. જેમ કે નટુકાકાના એક ફોને મને વિનમ્રતા શીખવી...

પણ હા આપણા વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ 2022માં તમામ ઘરવિહોણાને ઘર આપવાનું સ્વપ્ન સેવ્યું છે. સરકાર એમાં વધુ મહેનત કરે એમ ઈચ્છીશ. 

હમણાં જ બાવળામાં વિચરતી જાતિના કેટલાય પરિવારો જેઓ વર્ષોથી બાવળામાં જ રહેતા તેમના છાપરાં તૂટ્યા.. વળી આ છાપરાં એક વખત નહીં પણ ત્રણ વાર ખસ્યા અને તુટ્યા...આ પરિવારોનું પુનઃવસન થાય તે માટે વિધીસર દરખાસ્તો થઈ ગઈ છે. બસ સત્વરે કાર્યવાહી થાય એ માટે સરકારને વિનંતી....

 “When will we  find a place to call home,  how long will we have to lug our belongings ? We are tired of this never ending wandering!!” The 47 homeless nomadic families of Harij would often share their woes with us.

More than 3 years ago, VSSM’s Mohanbhai had made a written application to the district collector for allotment of plots to these families. Sadly, the file is yet to move forward.

Our Prime Minister dreams of proving housing to all homeless families by 2022, and we talk about making this dream a reality with the concerned authorities and legislators.

In August 2021, as a result of our persistent follow-ups the district collector allotted plots to these families. The joy of owning a house soon has brought immense joy to these families for whom VSSM has played an integral role in getting caste certificate and other identity proofs issued.  

The families have been extremely patient all this while, we are glad their patience has finally paid off.

We are grateful to the government. VSSM is particularly thankful to respected Shri Kiritbhai Shah (US based) and Jewelex Foundation for supporting the remuneration of VSSM team who remain persistent and consistent in their work towards the families VSSM works with.

અમારુ ઠેકાણું ક્યારે પડશે? આ લબાચા લઈને અહીંયાથી ત્યાં ને ત્યાંથી અહીંયા રખડીએ પણ હવે થાક્યા..એવું હારીજમાં રહેતા ઘરવિહોણા વિચરતી જાતિના 47 પરિવારો કહે. 

અમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે કલેક્ટર શ્રીને લેખીતમાં રજૂઆત કરી. પણ એક- બે - ત્રણ વર્ષ નીકળી ગયા પણ ફાઈલ આગળ ચાલે જ નહીં...

આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીનું સ્વપ્ન આવા ઘરવિહોણા તમામ પરિવારોને 2022 પહેલાં પ્લોટ આપવાનું બસ એ સ્વપ્નની વાત અધિકારથી લઈને રાજકીય આગેવાનો સાથે કરીએ. 

સતત રજૂઆત પછી કલેક્ટર શ્રીએ લાગણી રાખી આ પરિવારોને ઓગષ્ટ-21માં પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યા..

પરિવારો તો રાજી રાજી.. એમના જાતિપ્રમાણપત્રથી લઈને અન્ય પુરાવાઓ એકત્રીત કરવામાં પણ VSSMની ભૂમિકા મહત્વની..

જો કે આ પરિવારોએ પણ ધીરજ રાખી.. ને આપણામાં કહેવત છે ને ધીરજના ફળ મીઠા તે મીઠા ફળ એમને ચાખવા મળ્યા...

It is always ‘better late than never.’ At last, the Rain Gods decide to shower their blessings in Gujarat.

In the last five years, VSSM deepened 138 lakes in Banaskantha.

In 2021 VSSM deepened the lake at Suigaum’s Katav village. The lake needed to be deepened because on the banks of it was a borewell by the water supply department that provided water to 13 villages around it.

The deepening of lakes was undertaken with the support of Shroff Family Charitable Trust and the Government’s Sujalam Sufalam Scheme.

It was a joy to witness it fill up to the brim.

ભલે મોડા મોડાય પણ મેઘરાજા પધાર્યા ખરા...

બનાસકાંઠામાં અમે 138 તળાવો છેલ્લા પાંચેક વર્ષમાં ઊંડા કર્યા.

2021માં સૂઈગામના કટાવનું તળાવ ઊંડુ કર્યું. આ તળાવના કિનારે પાણી પુરવઠા વિભાગે બોરવેલ કર્યા ને આજુબાજુના 13 ગામને એ પીવાનું પાણી આપે.

એટલે આ તળાવ તો ઊંડુ કરવું જ રહ્યું...

સરકારની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજના અંતર્ગત અને VSSMના પ્રિયજન શ્રોફ ફેમીલી ચેરીટેબલ ટ્રસ્ટની મદદથી ખોદયું. જે મોડ મોડેથી મેઘરાજાએ મહેર કરીને ભરાયું...

The Rain Gods are upset with us…

When rains fail, it is the farmers who face the worst impact.

“Ben, there is hardly any water left for our borewells to draw out.” The farmers complained. It was tough to watch such pathetic condition of individuals who grow our food. The regions where the water of Narmada has reached through the Sardar Sarovar Canal are not undergoing any turmoil but regions like Lakhni, Tharad, Disa, Dhanera are struggling for water.

Farmers from numerous regions are appealing to the government to make provision for the Narmada water to reach their village. VSSM will do the needful and appeal to the government but until that happens we need to plan for our greener future, we are planting trees that help bring rain. VSSM is striving to achieve its goal of making Banaskantha green and water sufficient through a massive tree plantation campaign.

We are planting 7500 trees in Achwadiya village with the support of our dear and respected Krishnakant uncle and Indira auntie. To ensure that each planted tree survives and grows well, we will also appoint a Vriksha Mitr for three years.

Despite changing climate, rising temperatures and dwindling natural resources,  we haven't to value the significant role they play in our existence. It is our responsibility to pass on a planet that is environmentally healthy and blooming with an abundance of natural resources. We need to rewire our environmental priorities and remain committed to achieving those. 

 વાત અછવાડિયાથી...

મેઘરાજા રુઠ્યા...

ખેડૂતોએ ત્રાહીમામ પોકાર્યું...

બેન અમારા બોર ડચકા લે છે તો કોઈ કહે, અમારા બોરવેલ ફેઈલ થઈ ગયા.. જગતના તાતની આ દશા સાંભળી દુઃખ થાય.

બનાસકાંઠામાં મા રેવાના પાણી પહોંચવાથી ઘણા વિસ્તારને ફાયદો થયો. પણ લાખણી, થરાદ, ડીસા, ધાનેરા વગેરે વિસ્તારો પાણી ઝંખી રહ્યા છે. નર્મદાના પાણી પહોંચે એ માટે ગામે ગામથી ખેડૂતો રજૂઆત કરી રહ્યા છે. 

સરકારના કાને એ વાત નાખીશું ને નક્કર કામ થાય તે માટે પ્રયત્નો પણ કરીશું પણ ત્યાં સુધી વરસાદ લાવવામાં ઉપયોગી વૃક્ષોનો ઉછેર થાય તે માટે અમે મથી રહ્યા છીએ.

અછવાડિયાગામના સ્મશાનમાં અમે આદરણીય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અને ઈન્દિરા મહેતા અમે પ્રેમથી અંકલ આન્ટી કહીએ તેમની અને ગામની મદદથી 7500 વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ. 

વાવેલા વૃક્ષો ઉછરે એ માટે ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી પગારદાર માણસ પણ રાખીશું. 

દુષ્કાળની પરિસ્થિતિ સર્જાય ત્યારે આપણને પાણી અને વૃક્ષોનું મહત્વ વધારે સમજાય છે. પણ મારા ખ્યાલથી આપણે આ દિશામાં ઘણું કરવાનું બાકી છે. આપણી આવનારી પેઢીને સાબદા પાણીના તળ આપવાની સાથે સાથે સૌ સુખેથી રહી શકે તેવું ઓક્સિજન યુક્ત જગત આપવા માટે આપણે કટીબદ્ધ થવાની જરૃર છે.

Mittal Patel meets Kantama

Kantama resides in Dungrasan village, she bears the responsibility of being caregiver to her only mentally unstable son. Her self-esteem prevents her from reaching out for help. It was the very humble Surdas Kaka who introduced Kantama to VSSM’s Ishwarbhai.

“It would be a great relief if you could give me some ration!” Kantama had replied when asked what can we do to ease her work load. VSSM began providing monthly ration kit to her.

Recently, I had the opportunity of meeting her. “I am at peace, life feels good now. I do not have to stretch my hands for help. The ration kit reaches me on time every month,” Kantama shared. The peace was visible on her face.

We are grateful to all our well-wishing donors who are responsible for bringing this peace to numerous individuals like Kantama.

કાંતામા ડુંગરાસણગામમાં રહે. તેમને એક દીકરો જેની માનસીક અવસ્થા નબળી. 

આમ દીકરાની જવાબદારી કાંતામાને શીરે. 

કાંતામા ખુદ્દાર કોઈ પાસે હાથ લાંબો કરવો ગમે નહીં.

ગામના એકદમ ભલા સૂરદાસ કાકાએ અમારા કાર્યકર ઈશ્વરને કાંતામા સાથે મેળવ્યા. 

મા તમારા માટે શું કરીએ એવું પુછતા એમણે, 

રાશન આપો તો રાહત રહે એવું કહ્યું ને અમે એ આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું.

હમણાં હું એમને મળી એમણે કહ્યું, મારા જીવને હવે સાતા છે.. કોઈ સામે હાથ લાંબો નથી કરવો પડતો ટેમ ટુ ટેમ મને આ રાશન મળી જાય છે...

હાશકારો એમના મોંઢા પર હતો...

 Radhaben, a resident of Ahmedabad’s Anesan has been requesting for electricity connection to her shanty under the government’s scheme of providing power to hutments and shanties. Yes, Radhaben in struggling to bring electricity to her house. “We are particularly afraid during monsoons. We fear being stung by snakes and scorpions.”Radhaben has shared her woes of surviving monsoons without electricity. Recently her worst fears came to life when Radhaben’s son was bitten by a snake, they could save him with great difficulty.

Only homeless families like these can value the importance of roof, power and water. Basic facilities of power and water do not exist on the wastelands the nomads set up their settlements. The women and girls of these communities have to bear the brunt of these fundamental deficiencies. VSSM strives to ensure these families are allotted residential plots and assistance to build their first homes. Apart from the government assistance, the families also receive support from our well-wishing donors.

We are in the process of constructing a settlement for the nomadic families at Rajkot’s Rampara. There have been tremendous challenges to avail water and power. Our dear Nileshbhai Munshi’s support has helped us get an electricity connection to the settlement.

VSSM purchased water worth Rs. 4 lacs for the construction of this settlement. But “if we cannot have drinking water in the settlement, the purpose behind these efforts would be lost,” we wrote to our Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani.

As a result of his instructions and continuous follow up by Shri Ashwini Kumar Sir, WASMO has agreed to work in the settlement. The community’s contribution of Rs. 1.4 lacs has been supported by Shri Piyushbhai Kothari of Jewelex Foundation,  as a result we had a ‘Nal se Jal’ like situation even before the construction of houses was accomplished. The settlement now has 50,000 litres tank and taps at each house.

અમદાવાદના એણાસણમાં રહેતા રાધાબહેન વર્ષોથી પોતાનું ઝૂંપડું જે સરકારી જમીન પર છે ત્યાં વીજળીની માંગણી કરી રહ્યા છે. સરકારની ઝૂંપડાં વીજળીકરણ યોજના ખરી પણ રાધાબહેનને લાઈટ નથી મળતી. રાધાબહેન કહે, બેન ચોમાસાની રાતે બહુ બીક લાગે ક્યાંક સાપ, એરુ ડંખી જાય તો..

એમનો ભય સાચો ઠર્યો.એમના જુવાન દીકરાને હમણાં સાપ કરડ્યો. એ માંડ માંડ બચ્યો. 

ખુલ્લામાં રહેનાર આ પરિવારોને ઘર, વીજળી અને પાણીનું મહત્વ વધારે સમજાય.જ્યાં વિચરતી જાતિના આ પરિવારો ડેરા નાખે ત્યાં પાસે પાણી ન હોય. બહેન દીકરીઓ માટલાં ઉપાડી ઉપાડીને થાકી જાય.આવામાં અમે આ પરિવારોને સરકાર રહેવા પ્લોટ ને પ્લોટ પર ઘર બાંધવા મદદ કરે તે માટે મથીએ. ઘર બાંધવા સરકારી સહાય ઉપરાંત અમારી સાથે સંકળાયેલા દાતાઓ પણ મદદ કરે. 

રાજકોટના રામપરામાં અમે વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોની કોલોની બાંધી રહ્યા છીએ. પાણી અને વિજળી મેળવવા ઘણી હાલાકી વેઠી. વીજળી માટે તો પ્રિય નિલેશભાઈ મુનશીએ મદદ કરી ને વીજળી આવી.

 બાંધકામ માટે અમે 4 લાખનું વેચાતું પાણી લાવ્યા. પણ પીવા માટે પાણી ન મળે તો આ ઘરનો અર્થ નહીં રહે તેવી  રજૂઆત મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી વિજયભાઈને અમે કરી. તેમની સૂચના અને આદરણીય અશ્વીની કુમાર સરનું સતત ફોલોઅપ થવાના કારણે વાસ્મોએ આ કામ માટે હા પાડી. 

લોકફાળો 1.4 લાખ ભરવાનો હતો. જે અમારા પીયુષભાઈ કોઠારી - જ્વેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશને ભર્યો ને જુઓ મકાન પૂર્ણ થાય એ પહેલાં નલ સે જલ યોજના જેવું થઈ ગયું. 50,000 લીટર પાણીનો ટાંકો અને ઘરે ઘરે નળ આવી ગયા..

સરકાર અને પિયુષભાઈ બેઉ પ્રત્યે રાજીપો....

These Madaris have got it all, but despite of us staying right next to them we continue to be homeless. The officials tell us we cannot benefit because we haven’t been censused accordingly. Badiyu…”

A lady from Kheda’s Kapadwanj was sharing her woes with us. I have never liked asking anyone their caste or creed, but I was left with no choice here, “What is your caste?”“Mal-Makwana,” she replied.

I know there is no Mal-Makwana community under the OBC category. I could comprehend this was the reason these families could not receive  government benefits.  But I also know that it would be a long process to bring this community under government’s records.

How strange are the issues of such humble human beings. It is a fact that it takes years to redress the issues of poor and humble human beings.

Shri P.L. Deshpande’s ‘Bhat Bhat ke Log’ crossed my mind.  

If the government can allot plots to poor and homeless who do not feature as nomads, it can certainly allot plot to these families. We request the government to do the needful!

'બેન અમારે સરકાર પાહેથી ઝાઝુ નથી જોતું અમને રહેવા પ્લોટ ને ઘર માટે થોડી ઘણી મદદ મળી જાય તો ઘણું. પણ આ મદારીઓને બધુ મળ્યું અમે એમની બાજુમાં જ બેઠા છીએ પણ અમને આ બધુ ના મળે એવું અધિકારી કે છે.. એ લોકો કે છે તમે ગણતરીમાં નથી આવતા...'

'ગણતરીમાં?  મને સમજાયું નહીં...'

એમ કહીને મારી સાથે વાત કરનાર ખેડાના કપડવંજના બહેન ચુપ થઈ ગયા. મે પુછ્યું તમારી જાતિ કઈ? આમ તો કોઈને જાતિ પુછવી મને જરાય ગમે નહીં પણ અહીંયા એના વગર છુટકો નહોતો..

એમણે કહ્યું, 'મલ મકવાણા!'

મલ મકવાણા એવી કોઈ જાતિ OBCમાં નથી.. એટલે સહાય નથી મળતી.. એ હું સમજી.

ગણતરીમાં નથી એવા આ પરિવારો ને ગણતરીમાં લાવવા ઘણી લાંબી કવાયત કરવાની થશે..

ભોળુડા માણસોની તકલીફોય નિરાળી છે... ને આ તકલીફોનો નિવેડો આવતા વર્ષો લાગવાના છે એય સાચુ છે...

મને પુ.લ.દેશપાંડેનું ભાતભાત કે લોગ યાદ આવ્યું.

અને રહી વાત આ લોકોને પ્લોટ ને ઘર આપવાની તો સરકાર #વિચરતીજાતિમાં ન આવતા હોય તેવા ગરીબ માણસોને ગામતળમાં પ્લોટ આપવાનું કરે છે 

એ અંતર્ગત પ્લોટ ને ઘર આપી જ શકે છે.. 

ખેર એ માટે સરકારને વિનંતી.

The Kangasiya families of Rajkot survive under conditions the shared images depict. When we first came in their contact, they possessed no identity proof. With the support VSSM provided and compassion, the officials showed they could acquire identity proof.

The pressing issue was to help them obtain residential plots. Our Prime Minister has pledged to provide housing to all by 2022.

 “Ben, when will we have a place to call our own, a place we will not ask to vacate?” the families invariably inquired whenever I visited them.

VSSM has helped file applications along with an appeal to the district collector of Rajkot with a request to expedite the allotment. We would also like to request the ever-supportive respected Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani to kindly help us with this matter. 

રાજકોટના કુવાળવાગામમાં કાંગસિયા સમુદાયના પરિવારો ફોટોમાં દેખાય એ હાલમાં રહે.

આ પરિવારોને અમે પહેલીવાર મળ્યા ત્યારે એમની પાસે ઓળખના એકેય આધારો નહોતા. અમે મદદ કરી અધિકારીએ લાગણી રાખી એટલે આધારો તો થઈ ગયા.

હવે મુખ્ય મુદ્દો તેમને સ્થાયી રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળે તે. 

આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીનું સ્વપ્ન 2022 સુધીમાં ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને ઘર આપવાનું. 

જ્યારે પણ આ પરિવારોની વસાહતમાં જવું ત્યારે પુછાતો પ્રશ્ન બેન ક્યારે અમને અમારી જગ્યા મળશે જ્યાંથી અમને કોઈ ખાલી ન કરાવે. 

રાજકોટ કલેક્ટર શ્રીને પ્લોટ ફાળવવા અરજી તેમજ દરખાસ્ત કરી દીધી છે. બસ તેમને ઝટ પ્લોટ ફળવાય તે માટે વિનંતી... 

આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રીશ્રી વિજયભાઈ પણ અમારા કાર્યમાં ઘણી મદદ કરે તેમને પણ આ બાબતે મદદરૃપ થવા વિનંતી...

Instances of female infanticide for the ‘centuries-old preference’ of a male child is a practice many follow.

Although prohibited and outlawed,  recently there were arrests made in Rajkot of personnel who performed gender determination tests.

“Sons will support us as we age, will perform our last rites and ….” The parents will list out many emotional and cultural reasons for them to prefer sons over daughters. 

I know many parents who have taken refuge in old age homes despite of having sons, of sons beating their parents… it makes me question the medieval mindsets and practices.

We provide ration to Hajjan Ma and Jagshi Kaka, who do have a son. VSSM does not provide ration kits to couples or individuals who have son/s, we compel the son to care for their parents.  “Their son does not even ask their well-being, their living condition is pitiable. They live like destitute.” Ishwarbhai had told us.

Hence, we began providing monthly rations to them. However, the question of why isn’t the son looking after them always bothered me.

I had the opportunity to meet the couple during my visit to Dungarsan. I inquired about their son, “he comes and sees us once in a year, doesn’t even support us financially. We have lost hope in him. This is our destiny.”

“What will he give, these people have to feed him when he is here! It is better…” Surdaskaka speaks after he overhears our conversation.

I decided to stop the conversation here. It was better to not put them through more pain.

But examples like these should be brought to light for the understanding of ‘son-crazy’ parents.

દીકરાની તમન્નામાં દીકરીઓને ગર્ભમાં જ મારી નાખવાનું ઘણા કરે. 

રાજકોટમાં હમણાં જ આવી રીતે ગેરકાયદેસર ગર્ભપરીક્ષણ કરનારા પકડાયા..

દીકરાની ઘેલછા રાખનાર વ્યક્તિઓને પુછીએ કે દીકરો કેમ જરૃરી તો કહે, ઘડપણની લાઠી, મરીએ ત્યાંરે કાંધ આપે વગેરે વગેરે...

હું કેટલાય માવતરોને મળુ છુ જેઓના દીકરા છે છતાં તેઓ વૃદ્ધા આશ્રમમાં જીવે છે. દીકરા મારતા હોવાનું પણ સાંભળુ છું અને રહી વાત કાંધ આપવાની તો ક્યા જમાનામાં જીવીએ છીએ એ પ્રશ્ન સતત થાય.

હજ્જનમા અને જગશીકાકાને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીએ. આ બેઉને દીકરો છે. દીકરો હોય તેમને અમે રાશન ન આપી. દીકરાને અમે મા-બાપની ચાકરી કરવા સમજાવીએ પણ અમારા કાર્યકર ઈશ્વરે કહ્યું, આ બેઉનો દીકરો તો ભાળ કાઢવાય આવતો નથી. ઓશિયાળા છે બેઉ.  હાલત પણ ખરાબ છે. 

એટલે અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું પણ દીકરો કેમ ચાકરી કરતો નથી એ પ્રશ્ન મને મૂંઝવતો.

ડુંગરાસણ ગઈ એ વખતે આ માવતરને મળવા ખાસ ગઈ ને દીકરા અંગે પુછ્યું, કાકા કહે, 'એ બારો રે. વરસે કોક દાડે યાદ આવે તો આવે. પણ પૈસા બૈસા કે ટેકો ન કરે. અમેય હવે આશા નથી રાખતા.. અમારા કરમ..'

અમારી વાતો ગામના સુરદાસકાકા સાંભળે તે એમણે કહ્યું, 'એ શું આપે? આવે તો એના ખવડાવવાની ચિંતા આમને કરવાની આના કરતા....'

કાકા- કાકી બેઉ દુઃખી હતા વધારે પુછીને એમને દુઃખી ન કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.

પણ દીકરા પાછળ ઘેલા મા-બાપ માટે આ દાખલો સમજવા જેવો છે.. 

ખેર આવા 185 થી વધુ માવતરોને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીએ. તેમની નાની મોટી જરૃરિયાતો પણ સાચવીએ... 

આપને મદદની ઈચ્છા હોય તો 90999- 36019 પર સંપર્ક કરવા વિનંતી. અથવા 90999-36013 પર પેટીએમ પણ કરી શકાય.

"Please give me poison I do not wish to live any longer!” pleads Ranjitbhai to his father Devrajbhai after making constant rounds of various clinics for the last seven months. Ranjitbhai lives in Lodhiyana village of Amreli and earned his living from applying sequins on sarees. Seven months ago, a truck hit him while he was on his way to Una. One of his legs suffered a severe injury and had to be operated on to insert a rod. The family spent their savings on this surgery. While recuperating he developed some infection in the same leg, once again he was making rounds of hospitals in Rajkot, Junagadh, Mahuva… but no one could treat his condition and severe pain persisted. Finally, when they learnt about a free treatment program in Timbi, the father-son duo reached Timbi.

Pareshbhai from Timbi Hospital administration department called me up with a request to help Ranjitbhai receive treatment from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Ranjitbhai had no money to travel to Ahmedabad hence, Pareshbhai arranged for an ambulance while Kiran took care of the formalities for his admission into Civil Hospital.

Now it was a matter of waiting and being patient. Ranjitbhai’s wound was dressed daily, the doctor made daily visits but would not talk much to the patient. The father-son duo was very confused with this approach. It made them restless. Why are they operating Ranjitbhai when other doctors had advised the same? The question bothered them. But how to find an answer to the same!?

In the meanwhile,  cyclone Tauktae blew away the roof over their house in their hometown and their livelihood also suffered.

VSSM’s Kiran would regularly visit the father-son duo at the hospital. One day the father requested Kiranbhai, ‘Please get us relieved from here. It is better for Ranjit to be amidst the family instead of dying a lonely death here at the hospital.”

Kiran mentioned this to me, I called Devrajbapa to the office. Ranjit’s younger brother who was visiting him also accompanied his father to the office.

Devrajbapa was in tears describing the silence of the doctors and the condition of their cyclone ravaged house. Ranjit was much better but the men had lost hope, primarily because the doctor would not provide regular updates on Ranjit’s medical condition and they were not confident to speak to the doctor on their own.

I spoke to Shri Kamleshbhai Upadhyay who works at Civil Hospital, he spoke to the doctors treating Ranjitbhai. The doctors asked for  Devrajbapa to meet him. Kiran accompanied Devrajbapa and his younger son to meet the doctor. Devrajbapa asked all the questions that bothered him about Ranjitbhai’s condition, and the doctor patiently replied and resolved to each one of them.

“Now we will be here for as long as it takes for Ranjit to fully recover…” a relieved Devrajbapa tells us.

We provided the younger son with a tarpaulin and some cash while assuring him of support to start some business. Devrajbapa was at peace by now.

The reason for my sharing this rather insignificant story here is to draw your attention to the improving conditions of public hospitals and the need for them to pay attention to matters like so, to improve the communication with the patients and their relatives and ease their worries.

Yesterday the doctors performed plastic surgery on Ranjitbhai’s wound that had finally healed, he will be able to leave for Lundhiya in the next few days.

 'મને ઝેર દઈ દ્યો મારે હવે નથી જીવવું..'

છેલ્લા સાતે મહિનાથી એક દવાખાનામાંથી બીજે ને ત્યાંથી ત્રીજે ધક્કા ખાતા રણજીતભાઈએ પોતાના પિતા દેવરાજભાઈને આ કહ્યું.મૂળ અમરેલીના લોંધિયાગામના વતની રણજીભાઈ દેવીપૂજક સાડીઓમાં ટીલડીઓ લગાડવાનું કરે. સાત મહિના પહેલાં ઉના જતા ટ્રકે અડફેટે લીધા. ઢીંચણથી નીચેના ભાગમાં ફેક્ચર આવ્યું. ઓપરેશન થયું સળિયા નંખાયા. બચત ખર્ચાઈ ગઈ. ઘરે આવ્યા પછી પગમાં રસી થઈ. ફરી દવાખાનાના ધક્કા, દેવરાજાબાપા કહે, જુનાગઢ, રાજકોટ, મહુવા વગેરે કાંઈ કેટલાય દવાખાને ધક્કા ખાધા પણ દરદ મટે નહીં. છેવટે ટીંબીમાં મફત સારવારની જાણ થઈ. તે પહોંચ્યા ટીંબી.

ટીંબી હોસ્પીટલના સંચાલનમાં પરેશભાઈ કાર્યરત એમણે મને ફોન કર્યો ને રણજીતભાઈને સીવીલમાં સારવાર કરાવવામાં મદદ કરવા કહ્યું. અમદાવાદ આવવા પૈસા નહીં તે પરેશભાઈએ એમ્બ્યુલન્સ બાંધી આપી. અહીંયા આવતા વેત અમારા કાર્યકર કીરણે એમને દાખલ કરાવી દીધા. હવે મુદ્દો હતો ધીરજનો. રોજ ડ્રેસીંગ થયા. ડોક્ટર આવે ફટાફટ રજીભાઈને જોઈને જતા રહે. પણ દેવરાજબાપા કે રણજીતભાઈ સાથે ઝાઝી વાત ન થાય. બીજા ડોક્ટરોએ તો ઓપરેશનનું કહેલું ત્યારે અહીંયા એમાનું કેમ કરતા નથી તે પ્રશ્ન પણ થાય. પણ પુછી ન શકે. 

તૌકતે વાવાઝોડુ એમના ગામમાં આવીને ગયું અને એમનું છાપરુ ઊડી ગયું. રોજગારના  પણ કોઈ ઠેકાણા નહીં.  

માનસીક રીતે ભાંગી પડેલા રણજીભાઈ અને બાપાના હાલચાલ પુછવા અમારો કિરણ નિયમીત જાય. તે એક દિવસ એમણે કિરણને કહ્યું, 'અમને રજા દઈ દ્યો. ઘીરે અમારા બધાની વચમાં રણજીત મરશે તો ચાલશે પણ આંયા...'

કીરણે મને વાત કરીને અમે દેવરાજાબાપાને ઓફીસે બોલાવ્યા. તેમનો નાનો દીકરો પણ ખબર પુછવા આવેલો તે બાપ દીકરો બેઉ ઓફીસે આવ્યા. 

ડોક્ટર કાંઈ કહેતા નથી ને ઘરની સ્થિતિ તો બોલતા બોલતા દેવરાજબાપાની આંખમાં આસુ આવી ગયા. રણજીતભાઈને ઘણું સારુ હતું છતાં આ લોકો હિંમત હારી ગયેલા. મૂળ પ્રશ્ન ડોક્ટરે તેમની સાથે વાત નહોતી કરી. ક્યાંક આ લોકો ડોક્ટરને પુછી ન શક્યા.

આખરે સીવીલમાં કાર્યકરત અને ખુબ સંવેદનશીલ શ્રી કમલેશભાઈ ઉપાધ્યાયને આ વાત કહી. તેમણે વિભાગના ડોક્ટરને વાત કરી. ડોક્ટરે કહ્યું કાકાને મોકલી આપો હું વાત કરીશ. અમે કીરણ સાથે દેવરાજાબાપાને તેમના નાના દીકરાને સીવીલ મોકલ્યા. બાપાએ ડોક્ટરને ઘણા પ્રશ્નો પુછ્યા ને ડોક્ટરે દરેક વાતનું સમાધાન આપ્યું. કાકાના જીવને શાંતિ થઈ એ પછી એમણે કીરણને કહ્યું, 'હવે જેટલા દી રાખશે એટલા દી રેશું ને રણજીતને હાજો નરવો લઈને આંયાથી જશું..'ગામડેથી આવેલા એમના નાના દીકરાને તોરપોલીન ને થોડા પૈસા આપ્યા. સાથે નવો ધંધો કરવા મદદ કરવા કહ્યું. કાકાને જીવને હવે સાવ શાંતિ થઈ. 

આ વાત સાવ નાનકડી છે.. મૂળ સારવારની સાથે ક્યાંક વાત કરવાનું થાય તો શું પરિણામ આવે એ દર્શાવવા આ લખ્યું. 

સરકારી હોસ્પીટલોમાં પહેલાં કરતા સુવિધા ઘણી સરસ થઈ છે. એમાં આવી વાતો પર ધ્યાન દેવાય તો સોને પે સુહાગા જેવું થઈ જાય.  ખેર ગઈ કાલે જ રણજીતભાઈને પગમાં જ્યાં પસ થયું હતું તે લાંબા સમયના ડ્રેસીંગ પછી સારુ થયું ને એમની પ્લાસ્ટીક સર્જરી પણ થઈ ગઈ. બે ચાર દિવસમાં હવે એ લુંધિયા જઈ શકશે..
