Residential plots allotted..

The 6 saraniyaa and 4 Vansfoda families of Patan’s Chanasma have been allotted residential plots, today on 25th March 2015 the families received the commitment letters from the government. These families will now apply assistance for construction of homes.

પાટણ જીલ્લાના ચાણસ્મામાં રહેતાં ૬ સરાણીયા, ૪ વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને સરકાર દ્વારા રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા. આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફાળવણીની સનદો આજ રોજ (૨૫-૩-૧૫) આપવામાં આવી. હવે આ પરિવારો મકાન સહાય મેળવવા અરજી કરી શકશે.

For the nomads of Saurashtra change is yet to come…...

In Gujarat the largest concentration of nomadic families is found in and around the regions to its north. VSSM’s activities have been focused around these districts as well. Saurashtra is the other region where there are substantial numbers of nomadic settlements. VSSM is gradually reaching out in this region. With the limited resources we have it’s impossible to spread our scope this far. Not much has been done in this region and the conditions of the nomadic families in the region is pathetic. The officialdom to a great extent is non-coperative and lacks compassion. Culturally Saurashtra is a region with feudal mindset, so society here can’t be expected to do their part. It calls for concentrated and dynamic efforts. 

VSSM is gradually reaching out to the families here. Recently we made applications for ration cards for 12 families from Saraniyaa and Devipujak communities staying just opposite the office of the Mamlatdar in Chotila town of Surendranagar. These families have to an extent settled here, still their work does make them wander but this is the place they are most of the time of the year. AS a result of our efforts these families have received their Voter ID cards, the wait now is for the ration cards, the applications for which have been filed on 24th February.

સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં વિચરતા પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ ઘણી ખરાબ છે..

સુરેન્દ્રનગર જીલ્લાના ચોટીલાતાલુકા મથકે મામલતદાર કચેરીની સામે 12 સરાણીયા અને દેવીપૂજક પરિવારો વસવાટ કરે છે. આમ તો સરાણીયા છરી ચપ્પુની ધાર કાઢવાનો અને દેવીપૂજક ભંગાર વીણવાનો વ્યવસાય કરે અને તે માટે વર્ષનો કેટલોક સમય વિચરણ કરે પણ હવે વર્ષનો ઘણો ખરો ભાગ એ લોકો ચોટીલામાં જ સ્થાઈ રહ્યા છે. vssmની મદદથી એમનાં મતદારકાર્ડ પણ નીકળ્યા છે હવે રેશનકાર્ડ મળે એ માટે એમની અરજી કરી છે.. vssmના કાર્યકર હર્ષદ દ્વારા 12 પરિવારોની અરજી કરીને તા.૨૪ ફેબ્રુઆરીના રોજ મામલતદાર કચેરીમાં જમા કરાવી છે.. બસ કાર્ડ મળે એટલે અમને સ્થાઈ રહેવાં જગ્યા મળે એવી આ પરિવારોની ઝંખના છે. 

સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં વિચરતા પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ ઘણી ખરાબ છે ત્યાં કામ પણ બહુ થયું નથી. અલબત વહીવટીતંત્રનો બીજે મળે છે એવો સહયોગ અહિયાં મળતો નથી. કામ ન થવામાં એ પણ કારણભૂત છે પણ હવે મહેનત કરવાની છે...

The twists that were tuned in favour of the Vansfoda families…….

This is a story about 6 nomadic Vansfoda families who have settled in the Oon village of Banaskantha’s Kakrej block. Vansfoda is a nomadic tribe skilled at bamboo basketry, however with the availability  of bamboo diminishing they have began selling plastic tubs and buckets. Since Oon village is their monsoon settlement a request was made for allotment of residential plots in this village. Also the names of these families feature in the BPL list so under the Swarnim Gujarat initiative a government order  was issued in 2011 allotting th

em plots, its been 4 years and the families have still not received the possession of these allotted plots.

As is the case with most of the pending issues of nomadic communities we followed up and complained about the issue numerous times with no success. Finally, recently we got a reply from the office of the TDO saying, “these families are not ready to take land where the government is willing to give but want land where they are staying right now.” This was absolutely absurd, a framed reply by the collective creative genius (government officials)  at work.  They had   some how proved this on paper as well!!

Just as we got to know all these framed developments we  wrote to the TDO office on 23/2/15. VSSM’s Naran was handling the situation. He went to the TDO, who asked Naran, “how can you say the panchnama is false??” 

"The Vansfoda families are here with me, you may ask them and confirm the matter,” Naran replied. 

The Vansfoda families told the TDO that they are in dire need of residential plots to permanently settle at some. The TDO summoned the officials and a new panchnama was made. The TDO asked  once again if they shall move to any place where government allots them land??

Babubhai, one of the elderly family member present there replied, “ Ben, we shall go wherever you ask us to go, what can be better than a permanent place to build a shade for the family!!” No one in the office  had any further questions to ask…..

‘માથું ઢાંકવા કાયમનું સ્થાનક મળી જાય એનાથી રૂડું શું હોય’

બનાસકાંઠા જીલ્લાના કાંકરેજ તાલુકાના ઉણગામમાં ૬ વાંસફોડા પરિવારો વર્ષોથી વર્ષનો ચોક્કસ સમય રહે. કેટલાંક વાંસમાંથી સુડલા- ટોપલા બનાવીને તો કેટલાક પ્લાસ્ટીકના તબકડા વેચીને પોતાનો ગુજારો કરે.  આ પરિવારો વર્ષોથી ઉણગામમાં રહેવા કાયમ જમીન મળે એ માટે રજૂઆત કરે. વળી એમનો સમાવેશ BPL યાદીમાં એટલે સરકારના સ્વર્ણિમ ગુજરાતના સંકલ્પ વખતે ૨૦૧૧માં એમને ઘરથાળના પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યાના હુકમો પણ આપી દેવામાં આવ્યા હતાં. પણ કબજો આજ સુધી (૨૦૧૫) મળેલો નહિ. અવાર નવાર આ સંદર્ભની રજૂઆતનો હમણાં એમણે(તાલુકા વિકાસ અધિકારીની કચેરીએ) જવાબ આપ્યો કે, ‘આ પરિવારો સરકાર આપે છે, એ જગ્યા લેવા તૈયાર નથી. એમને એ લોકો જ્યાં છાપરાં બાંધીને રહે છે એ જગ્યા જ જોઈએ છે..’ આ વાત તદન વાહિયાત હતી. વળી આ સંદર્ભનું પંચનામું કરીને TDO કચેરીમાં અધિકારીઓ દ્વારા આપેલું. એટલે આ પરિવારોને જગ્યા નથી જોઈતી એમ કાગળ પર ખોટી રીતે પુરવાર કરી દીધેલું.

આ બાબત ધ્યાને આવતાં તા.૨૩-૨-૧૫ ના રોજ TDO શ્રી સમક્ષ પંચનામું ખોટું હોવા સંદર્ભની રજૂઆત કરી vssmના કાર્યકર નારણે કરી. TDO શ્રી એ નારણે કહ્યું, ‘ પંચનામું ખોટું છે તમે કેવી રીતે કહી શકો?’ નારણે કહ્યું, ‘મારી સાથે વાંસફોડા પરિવારો આવ્યા છે તમે એમની સાથે જ વાત કરી લો’ વાંસફોડા પરિવારો TDO શ્રી સમક્ષ આવ્યા અને પોતાને કાયમી અને સ્થાઈ રહેવા પ્લોટ જોઈએ છે એ સંદર્ભની રજૂઆત કરી. TDO શ્રીએ અન્ય અધિકારીને  બોલાવી ફરી પંચનામું કરાવ્યું અને સરકાર જ્યાં પણ પ્લોટ આપશે ત્યાં રહેવા જવા તૈયાર છો એ અંગે ફરી પૂછ્યું, વાંસફોડા પરિવારના આગેવાન બાબુભાઈએ કહ્યું, ‘બેન જ્યાં જગ્યા આપશો ત્યાં અમે જઈશું. માથું ઢાંકવા કાયમનું સ્થાનક મળી જાય એનાથી રૂડું શું હોય’ કચેરીમાં બેઠેલા એકેય પાસે બાબુભાઇને પૂછવા પ્રશ્ન નહોતો... બસ પંચનામું લખાયું અને ફોટોમાં દેખાય છે એમ પંચનામા પર એમનાં અંગુઠા લેવાયા..

Rejoice, the long walk for water is over, potable water reaches the settlement…

The struggle for acquiring the residential plots had been long and just  6 months back the Vansfoda families of Patan’s Sami block have been allotted the residential plots. After the struggle for land came struggle for water. The wait was long for this too and the walk to fetch water was long as well 1.5 kms. Finally after 6 months followups water has reached the settlement. It wouldn’t be wrong if we said that this solution to the long pending issue has been achieved after the Collector intervened!!! Better late than never. Still the construction of homes is yet to commence but the joy of having water in the settlement is no less than owning a house. For any nomadic family the to suffice even the basic need  is a hard task. Now all that needs to be ensured is the water is not wasted here….

One more pending issue that we are hopeful will find solution soon is opening up of the access roads that are blocked by the strong me

વર્ષોની મહેનત પછી વસાહતમાં પાણી આવ્યું...

પાટણ જીલ્લાના સમી તાલુકામાં વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફળવાય અને પાણીની સુવિધા થાય તે માટે આપણે ઘણા સમયથી રજૂઆત કરતા હતા. આખરે છ મહિના પહેલાં વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા. પરંતુ, પાણી તો એમણે દોઢ કી.મી. દુરથી જ લાવવું પડતું હતું. ઘણી રજૂઆતના અંતે હવે આ પરિવારોની વસાહતમાં પાણીની સુવિધા થઇ. આમ તો કલેકટર શ્રીની સીધી સુચનાથી આ કામ પૂરું થયું એમ કહીએ તો ચાલે. આ પરિવારોને મળેલાં પ્લોટ પર હજુ ઘર બાંધવાનું કામ શરુ થયું નથી પણ પાણી આવી ગયું એનાથી તેઓ રાજી છે. આમ તો ઘર મળ્યા જેટલો જ આનંદ છે... વર્ષોથી પાણી માટે જે રઝળપાટ એમણે વેઠ્યો છે એનો હવે અંત આવ્યો... પાણીનો બગાડ ના થાય તે જોવાનું રહ્યું...

હજુ વસાહતમાં જવાનાં રસ્તા પર ગામના માથાભારે લોકોએ દબાણ કરી દીધું છે એમનો રસ્તો બંધ કરી દીધો છે આ પ્રશ્ન ઉકેલવાનો બાકી છે. આ મુદ્દો પણ ઝડપથી ઉકેલાય એવી આશા રાખીએ...

The nomadic families are speaking up for their Rights….

The change in the level of confidence of the nomadic communities is very much evident provided one can notice  it. Having worked with these communities so closely for so long I can see and feel that much desired change. The year was 2007, I and some Bajaniya community members around 10 of them were required to go to the panchayat office of Karnnagar village in Mehsana’s Kadi block. We had to make applications for the residential plots for these families to settle permanently in this village. Just as we reached the Panchayat office all of these men just stopped. Instead of climbing the stairs of the office they stood outside and preferred to wait out while I go and do the talking inside. I could sense their fear…. they waited outside asking us to call them if there is a need.  We gave all the details to the sarpanch, “these Bajaniya families are staying in these village for many years, they consider this village their hometown, they want to settle in Karannagar which is not possible without the support of village.” The Sarpanch asked if the community members had come along, he summoned them inside, gave them a big lecture but eventually helped them settle in the village, plots were allotted and homes were built. 

Over the years, the nomadic communities have gained lot of confidence, now whenever there are matters that require demanding of rights be it at Panchayat or any government offices the members of these communities  do not hesitate to speak up.  Just recently the Vansfoda families of Patan’s Sami block had been allotted plots but the notorious groups within the village began harassing those families. They closed all the exits from these plots. The families were really confused and were under great trauma. They made presentation to the concerned  government offices  but most of all they went to the  Panchayat office and asked Sarpanch to do  justice. Few years ago these families too were timid and afraid to stand up for their rights but the support they have of VSSM they fear none. 

What if they were removed from he village,was the fear they always had, it was this fear that restrained them but now they are speaking up and we are glad they are doing so….

વિચરતા પરિવારો પોતાના અધિકારની વાત કરતા થયા છે...

૨૦૦૭માં મહેસાણા જીલ્લાના કડી તાલુકાના કરણનગરગામમાં રહેતાં બજાણિયા પરિવારોને કાયમી વસવાટ માટે પ્લોટ મળે એ માટેની રજૂઆત માટે પંચાયતમાં સરપંચ પાસે જવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. બજાણીયા પરિવારોમાંથી લગભગ ૧૦ માણસોને લઈને અમે પંચાયતમાં ગયા પણ જેવું પંચાયતઘર આવ્યું કે આ બધા જ બજાણીયા વ્યક્તિઓ બહાર જ ઉભા રહી ગયા. મને નવી લાગી. મેં કહ્યું, ‘ચાલો અંદર જવાનું છે’ એમણે ના પાડી અને કહ્યું, ‘બેન તમે જાવ અમે અહિયાં જ ઉભા રહીશું.’ અંદરથી ડર અનુભવતા હોય એમ લાગ્યું.. એ પછી એમને આ જગ્યા પર જ ઉભા રહેવા કહ્યું અને જરૂર પડે બોલાવું તો અંદર આવજો એમ કહીને અમે પંચાયતઘરમાં દાખલ થયા.. 

સરપંચને વિગતે વાત કરી ‘વર્ષોથી બજાણિયા પરિવારો તમારાં ગામમાં ઘણો બધો સમય રહે છે. ગામને પોતાનું વતન માને છે. એમને અહિયાં કાયમ વસવાની ઈચ્છા છે અને આ બધું ગામની મદદ વગર શક્ય નથી..’ સરપંચ આમ ખુબ ભલા માણસ. એમણે પૂછ્યું, ‘એ બધા તમારી સાથે આવ્યા છે’ મે હા પાડી.. અને એમને બહારથી બોલાવ્યાં. સરપંચે, પહેલાં તો જબરું ભાષણ આપ્યું પણ પછી એમણે સ્થાયી કરવામાં મદદ કરી. પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યા અને ઘરો પણ બંધાયા...

૨૦૦૭ થી લઈને ૨૦૧૫ સુધીમાં વિચરતી જાતિઓમાં ઘણો બદલાવ આવ્યો છે. પંચાયત કે અન્ય કોઈ પણ જગ્યાએ પોતાના અધિકારની વાત કરતાં ડરતાં આ પરિવારો હવે પોતાના અધિકારની વાત કરતા થયા છે... તાજેતરમાં જ પાટણ જીલ્લાના સમી તાલુકામાં વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને પણ રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા. પણ ગામના માથાભારે લોકોએ વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને ફાળવાયેલા પ્લોટમાંથી બહાર જવાનો રસ્તો બંધ કરી દીધો.. ખુબ મૂંઝાયેલા આ પરિવારોએ દરેક સરકારી કચેરીમાં રજૂઆત કરી અને સૌથી મહત્વની રજૂઆત એમણે પંચાયતઘરમાં જઈને સરપંચ અને પંચાયતના તમામ સભ્યોને પોતાની સાથે ન્યાય કરવા વિનંતી કરી.. આ પરિવારો પણ કરણનગરની જેમ જ પંચાયત કે સરપંચ પાસે જતા ડરતાં પણ હવે vssm સતત સાથે છે એટલે કોઈ ભય નથી અને એટલે જ પોતાના અધિકારની વાત જાતે કરતા થયા છે. 

મૂળ પંચાયતમાં કે ગ્રામસભામાં રજૂઆત કરશે અને ગામલોકો એમને ગામમાંથી કાઢી મુકશે એવો ભય હંમેશાં રહે છે એટલે જ પોતાના અધિકારની વાત કરવાનું ટાળતા આ પરિવારો હવે બોલતા થયા છે. જેનો આનંદ છે...

Construction of homes begins in Juna Deesa…

Initiating the construction  of houses  in Juna Deesa has been a long uphill task finally,  we have began the construction process there. The cost of each house is estimated to be Rs. 1.40 lacs, around 70 families will receive Rs. 40,000 and the other 73 families will be receiving Rs. 70,000 support from the government. The well wishers of VSSM will provide Rs. 25,000 for each of the house while Shri, Sudhirbhai Thakar is providing Rs. 15,000 (per house) for the construction of sanitation unit in each house. The balance funds will be managed by the families. The collective efforts of donors, community and government aid is  shaping up a beautiful future for these families……

જુના ડીસામાં વિચરતા પરિવારોના ઘરોનું બાંધકામ આરંભાયુ..

જુના ડીસામાં ઘણી મુશ્કેલી પછી વિચરતા પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવાનું શરૂ થયું. આ પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધકામમાં સરકાર દ્વારા ૭૦ પરિવારોને રૂ.૪૫,૦૦૦ મકાન સહાયના રૂપમાં આપવામાં આવ્યા છે તો બાકીના ૭૩ પરિવારોને રૂ.૭૦,૦૦૦ મળશે. એક ઘરનો અંદાજ અત્યારે રૂ.૧૪૦,૦૦૦ જેટલો થવા જાય છે. દાતાઓની મદદથી પ્રત્યેક પરિવારને રૂ.૨૫,૦૦૦ ની આર્થિક સહાય મકાન બાંધકામમાં vssm ના માધ્યમથી કરીશું. જયારે સેનિટેશન યુનિટ માટે શ્રી સુધીરભાઈ ઠાકરશી પરિવાર પ્રત્યેક પરિવારને રૂ.૧૫,૫૦૦ ની મદદ કરશે. જયારે બાકીની રકમની વ્યવસ્થા આ પરિવારો કરશે.. આમ સમાજ અને સરકાર એમ સૌના સહિયારા પ્રયાશોથી આ કામ આરંભાઈ ગયું છે.

Even the birds have a nest

On the 14th of March we along with the well wishers of VSSM Shri.Rashminbhai Sanghvi, Shri. Pravinbhai Shah, Shri. Dilipbhai Shah, Shri. Saileshbhai Shah, Shri. Mayurbhai Ramaiya visited the VSSM run hostel at Tharad. Just as we reached there was a large group waiting to welcome us. These were the families from Salat, Nath Vadee, Gadaliyaacommunities  who had recently acquired residential plots in Tharad.

149 nomadic families from Banaskantha’s Tharad were recently allotted residential plots, the wait was 6 years long. Finally Collector Shri. Dilip Rana and his team made it possible for these families to realise their life long yearning…..

So here they were,  all geared up to surprise us  with  the beats dhol,  flute melody,  busting fire crackers  and to show their joy, happiness and gratitude. And surprised we were to such joyous and cheerful welcome. The food too  was also collectively prepared by them. 

Soon the construction will commence on these plots. The long wait is over, as one of the elderly community men very aptly described it “for ages we have been wandering with our donkeys, our ancestors also did the same, even birds have nests but we never had one, like our forefathers we would have been left without any home or address but not any more.” VSSM thanks the administration and  well wishers for the support it has provided all through.

પારેવાનું પણ ઠેકાણું હોય..

બનાસકાંઠાના થરાદમાં ૧૪૯ વિચરતા પરિવારોને સરકાર દ્વારા રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા. ૨૦૦૮ થી કાયમી વસવાટ માટે જગ્યા મળે એ માટે અમે સૌ પ્રયત્ન કરતાં હતા. જેનો અંત આવ્યો. કલેકટર શ્રી દિલીપ રાણા અને એમની ટીમની લાગણીના કારણે આ બધું શક્ય બન્યું.

તા.૧૪મી માર્ચ ૨૦૧૫ના રોજ થરાદ vssmના શુભેચ્છક સ્વજન એવા શ્રી રશ્મીનભાઈ સંઘવી, શ્રી પ્રવીણભાઈ શાહ, શ્રી દિલીપભાઈ શાહ, શ્રી શૈલેશભાઈ શાહ, શ્રી મયુરભાઈ રામૈયા સાથે જવાનું થયું. રાતના ૮ વાગે અમે થરાદમાં અમારી હોસ્ટેલ પર પહોચ્યાં. અહિયાં આ ૧૪૯ પરિવારો અમને આવકારવા ઉપસ્થિત હતાં. સૌએ ઢોલ, મોરલી અને ફટાકડાથી સ્વાગત સાથે પ્લોટ મળ્યાનો હરખ વ્યક્ત કર્યો.. આમ તો આ બધું જ અમારા માટે સરપ્રાઈઝ હતું. આ વ્યવસ્થાથી અમે અજાણ હતાં. પણ એમનો ઉમળકો જોઇને ખુબ રાજી થયા. સલાટ, નાથવાદી અને ગાડલિયાના ૧૪૯ પરિવારોએ સમુહમાં એમની અને અમારી રસોઈ કરી હતી. બધા ખુબ નાચ્યાં, ફટાકડાં પણ ફોડ્યા અને એમણે પોતાની લાગણી પણ વ્યક્ત કરી. 

હવે પ્લોટ રૂપી મળેલાં કાયમી સરનામાં ઉપર ઘર બાંધવાનું આયોજન કરવાનું છે..આ પરિવારો કહે છે એમ ‘વર્ષોથી ગધાડાં લઈને રઝળ્યા કર્યું. અમારા ઘૈડીયા પણ આમ જ રઝળતાં – ભટકતા ગયા. પારેવાનું પણ ઠેકાણું હોય પણ અમારું કયાંય નહોતું. અમારાં ઘૈડીયાની જેમ અમે પણ ઠેકાણાની રાહમાં જતા રહેત...પણ હવે સરનામું મળ્યું..’ એમના આ આનંદ માટે વહીવટીતંત્ર અને vssm ટીમને સતત પ્રવૃત રાખવામાં મદદરૂપ થનાર દાતાઓનો આભાર વ્યક્ત કરીએ છીએ..

“Why don’t you bring your Saheb now to deposit the money, he hassled us so much with us for opening your bank accounts…?"

A major campaign VSSM initiated last year was to introduce the concept of saving and cultivate the habit of regular saving amongst the nomadic families. As a part of this initiative VSSM team members convinced hundred of nomadic families to open bank accounts and start to deposit atleast  a minimum amount every month. 

22 Salat community members  go to Dena bank at Vijapur between 1st to 5th of every month deposit their monthly savings. Since none of these individuals were able to read or write filling up the bank deposit slips was a big challenge. At the bank they requested one of the bank official to fill up the slips on their behalf. 22 slips together - the official didn’t like it at first, hesitated saying, “why, you Saheb has not come along to fill up these slips, he sat on our heads to make sure we opened your accounts with our bank, so why isn’t he accompanying you now??

“ there are so many like us, if Tohidbhai begins doing these work how will he complete other work he has? please fill these slips for us so we may deposit the money and go back home!!” replied one of the community members. 

The bank official had a smile on hearing the reply and began filling up the slips. The money was deposited. 

Next month again the same issue was to come up so these wise Salat families decided to split themselves in group of fives….first day was ok the following day the officer understood so he called up Tohid. “Bhai, why don’t you takes these deposit slips along and fill them up at your convenience, so that I am saved from all these trouble.” The official and Tohid had a sweet and sour working relationship. Both of them had mutual respect for each other. Tohid had been angry at  these officials when they were not cooperating enough with the families during the process of bank account. So these officials knew Tohid well. 

“Saheb in Vijapur alone I have 250 families to look after and apart from Vijapur there are many other regions and families who need my attention, I have to school to run, ensure their children go to school…. its difficult to reach and be at all the places. You are aware of the work my organisation does, so by filling up the slips you are doing your bit towards ensuring a better future for these families!!” replied Tohid. The officer could not argue further. He smiled and continued to do his bit….Now the bank officials, peons, security guards are all ready to help these families. 

These Salat dream of a decent home, educate their children and understand that regular saving will help them realise these dreams. Since last 8 months they have been saving on regular basis.  A minimum of Rs. 500 is what they save every month.

“કેમ અલ્યા તમારા સાહેબ નથી આયાં. ખાતા ખોલવા તો એમણે કેટલી માથાકૂટ કરીતી તો પૈસા મુકવા સાથે લાવવાંતા ને!” 

૨૨ સલાટ ભાઈ – બહેનો મહિનાની ૧ થી ૫ તારીખમાં વિજાપુર દેનાબેંકમાં પોતાની બચત જમા કરાવવા જાય છે. આ બધામાંથી એક પણ વ્યક્તિને વાંચતા કે લખતાં આવડતું નથી. બેંકના સાહેબને પૈસા મુકવાની ચિઠ્ઠી ભરી આપવાં વિનંતી કરે છે. એક સાથે ૨૨ જણાની ચિઠ્ઠી! સાહેબે થોડું મોઢું બગાડ્યું અને પછી કહ્યું, “કેમ અલ્યા તમારા સાહેબ નથી આયાં? ખાતા ખોલવા તો એમણે કેટલી માથાકૂટ કરીતી તો પૈસા મુકવા સાથે લાવવાંતા ને!” 

“અમારાં જેવા ચેટલાનું કોમ તોહીદભાઈ કરે. બધાનું આવું નોનું નોનું કોમ એ કરવાં બેહે તો સાહેબ એમને પાર જ ના આવે.. તમે આ કુપન ભરી આલો ને એટલે અમે પણ પૈસા મુકીને હેંડતા થઈએ..” બેંકના એ સાહેબ સલાટનો આ જવાબ સાંભળી થોડું હસ્યા અને બધાની ચિઠ્ઠી ભરી આપી.. સલાટ પણ પૈસા મુકીને પોતાના કામે લાગી ગયા.

વળી બીજો મહિનો શરુ થયો. એક સાથે ૨૨ જણા જઈશું તો સાહેબ વળી બોલશે એટલે પાંચ વ્યક્તિ પૈસા મુકવા ગયાં. સાહેબે ચિઠ્ઠી ભરી આપી. વળી બીજા દિવસે પાંચ .. સાહેબ સમજી ગયાં.. આમ તો તોહીદ જે vssmના કાર્યકર છે એમનાથી બેંકના તમામ અધિકારી પરિચિત. શરૂઆતમાં ખાતા ખોલવામાં જે તકલીફ પડી એ વખતે તોહીદે બેંકમાં જરા ઊંચા અવાજે બધા ઉપર આ પરિવારોના ખાતા નહિ ખોલવા સંદર્ભે ગુસ્સો પણ કરેલો એટલે તોહીદનો આવો મીઠો પરિચય બેંકના તમામને. સાહેબે તોહીદને ફોન પર કહ્યું, ‘ભાઈ તું પૈસા ભરવાની પહોંચ લઇ જઈને તારી પાસે રાખ અને જયારે આમને પૈસા ભરવા હોય ત્યારે તારી ફુરસદે તું ભરી આપે તો આમને તકલીફ ના થાય..’ તોહીદે કહ્યું, ‘સાહેબ વિજાપુરમાં જ ૨૫૦ કરતાં વધારે પરિવારો સાથે અને વિજાપુર સિવાય પણ ઘણી જગ્યાએ કામ કરું છું. વળી એમના બાળકોને ભણાવવાનું પણ ખરું. પહોંચી વળવું મુશ્કેલ છે. તમે તો અમારાં કામને જાણો છો. અને સાહેબ આ રીતે સેવા કરવાનો તમને પણ મોકો મળે છે.. ’ સાહેબે હાસ્ય જ વેર્યું..  હવે બેંકના ચોકીદારથી લઈને તમામ કર્મચારી આ પરિવારોને મદદરૂપ થવાં લાગ્યા છે. 

પોતાનું સારું ઘર બનાવવું છે, બાળકોને ભણાવવા છે એટલે આ પરિવારો બચતના મહત્વને સમજ્યા છે. ઓગસ્ટ-૧૪માં ખોલાવેલા બેંક એકાઉન્ટમાં ઓછામાં ઓછા રૂ.૫૦૦ તો તેઓ બચાવે જ છે. તેમની નિયમિતતાથી બેંકના અધિકારીઓ પરિચિત થઇ ગયા છે અને મદદરૂપ થઇ રહ્યા છે...

Kamuben’s earns to realise her wish to have savings…..

Kamuben Bajaniyaa is a resident of Ahmedabad’s Detroj town. Her husband Mohanbhai is a daily wage earner. The couple have 3 daughters and a son. While the daughters have been married off their son studies in 10 standard. Mohanbhai’s mother  also stays with the family. Since the old lady needed constant care and support Kamuben was required to stay at home to take care of her mother-in-law.  With only Mohanbhai earning the family hardly managed to fulfil its daily needs, saving many fro emergencies was out of question. And this always bothered Kamuben. She never liked to asking for money from anyone during financial emergencies but was left with no options!! She knew she had to support her husband but there was this question of taking care of the raging mother-in-law and attend to the house hold chores as well. 

VSSM’s Jayantibhai knew the couple. His advise Kamuben to start some venture to resolve their financial insecurities.  Kamuben had a knack and past experience of selling cosmetics and imitation jewellery. The husband-wife team had done this before but Mohanbhai found fabrication jobs more rewarding have they stopped their venture. Since Jayantibhai knew this he recommended Kamuben start it again. As a start-up capital  Kamuben took a loan of Rs. 10,000 from  VSSM. 

Now, Kamuben can take care of her mother-in-law, look after the house and do the business to support the family. Whenever she has someone to take care of her responsibilities at home she sets out to other villages to do the selling. She earns Rs. 700-800 every week, which goes into her saving kitty. No money is spent from her savings. So far she has repaid half of her loan. She is regular in depositing the money in her savings as-well. We wish Kamuben  realise her wish of having  decent savings as early as she can.

ખુબ સારી બચત કરવાનું કામુબેનનું સ્વપ્ન સાકાર થઇ રહ્યું છે...

કમુબેન બજાણિયા અમદાવાદ જીલ્લાના દેત્રોજ ગામમાં રહે. પરિવારમાં ત્રણ દીકરી અને એક દીકરો જે ધો. ૧૦માં ભણે. દીકરીઓ પરણીને સાસરે ગઈ. પતિ છૂટક વેલ્ડીંગનું કામ કરે અને વૃદ્ધ સાસુ જે પોતાનું કોઈ કામ જાતે કરી ના શકે. પતિ મોહનભાઈ જે કમાઈને લાવે એનાથી ઘરનો વ્યવહાર ચાલે પણ બચતના નામે મીંડું. કમુબેનને પોતાની બચત ના હોવા અંગે હંમેશા વસવસો રહે. પરિવારમાં પ્રસંગોપાત જરૂરિયાત વખતે કોઈની પાસે હાથ લાંબો કરવો પડે એ ગમે નહિ પણ કરે શું? સાસુને સાચવનાર કોઈ મળી જાય ત્યારે છૂટક મજૂરીએ જાય પણ એનાથી શું વળે? વળી રોજ કામ પણ ના મળે.

vssmના કાર્યકર જયંતીભાઈ સાથે કમુબેનના પરિવારને ઘરોબો એમણે કમુબેનની આ મૂંઝવણનું નિરાકરણ કંઈક ધંધા મારફત લાવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. કટલરીનો(શૃંગાર પ્રસાધનો) સામાન લાવીને વેચી શકવાની કમુબેનની આવડત. ભૂતકાળમાં એમનાં પતિ સાથે એમણે આ કામ કરેલું પણ પછી મોહનભાઈને વેલ્ડીંગનું કામ વધારે ફાવ્યું અને એમણે કટલરીનું કામ બંધ કર્યું. જયંતીભાઈ આ જાણે એટલે એમણે કમુબેનને કટલરી વેચવાનું કામ કરવાં કહ્યું. રૂ. ૧૦,૦૦૦ આ ધંધા માટે જોઈએ જે હતાં નહિ. એટલે vssm પાસેથી લોન લીધી. 

કમુબેન ઘરેથી વેચાય એટલો સામાન સાસુની સેવા કરતાં કરતાં વેચે અને સાસુ સાથે પરિવારમાંથી કોઈ રહી શકે એમ હોય એ સમયે આસપાસના ગામડાંમાં ફેરી કરે. અઠવાડિયે રૂપિયા ૭૦૦ -૮૦૦ મળે પણ એ એમની બચત. એમાંથી રૂપિયો પણ ઘર ખર્ચમાં ના વાપરે. બેંકમાં નિયમિત પૈસા જમા કરાવે. અત્યાર સુધી એમણે લીધેલી રૂ. ૧૦,૦૦૦ ની લોનમાંથી રૂ.૫,૦૦૦ તો એમણે પરત ભરી પણ દીધા છે. ખુબ સારી બચત કરવાનું કામુબેનનું સ્વપ્ન ઝડપથી સાકાર થાય એવી શેભેચ્છા..

"I will build my home myself……"

VSSM’s Tohid has been instrumental in opening bank accounts of  the nomadic families staying in Vijapur and ensuring that these families form a habit of saving money on regular basis. On Sunday I received a call from him. His sounded very cheerful and enthusiastic. 

“Bachubhai Salat has paid off the loan he had taken for buying a carrier rickshaw and in last 4 months he has saved Rs. 41,000,” informed Tohid. 

Bachubhai drove a rented rickshaw. Later he chose to buy his own rickshaw and instead of paying rentals pay the instalments. He worked really hard, paid of the loan and become debt free. 

All through this period Tohid has been guiding him in managing his money. Once the loan was paid of he asked him to begin saving so that he has savings in time of need. 

On Sunday Bachubhai showed his bank pass book to Tohid seeing which Tohid was extremely delighted. “I will build my house with my money” 

Its their sheer handwork that is pulling these families out of poverty.. may they rise always….

‘મારું ઘર હું જાતે બનાવીશ’

વિજાપુરમાં રહેતાં સલાટ પરિવારોને બેંકમાં ખાતા ખોલાવી અને નિયમિત બચત કરતા કરવાનું કામ vssmના કાર્યકર તોહીદે કરાવ્યું. દર મહીને દરેક વ્યક્તિ બેંકમાં પૈસા જમા કરાવવા જાય છે કે નહિ એનું પણ એ બરાબર ધ્યાન રાખે. રવિવારે તોહીદનો ફોન આવ્યો. ખુબ જ ઉત્સાહ એના અવાજમાં હતો. 

‘બચુભાઈ સલાટે ટેમ્પાની લોન ભરી દીધી અને છેલ્લા ૪ મહિનામાં રૂ.૪૧,૦૦૦ ની બચત કરી..’ 

ભાડાની રીક્ષા ચાલવતા બચુભાઈએ ભાડાની રીક્ષા ચલાવવા કરતા પોતાની  લોડીંગ રીક્ષા  ખરીદવાનું નક્કી કર્યું મૂળ તો ભાડું ભરે એટલા રૂપિયા લોનના રૂપમાં ભરે તો રીક્ષા પોતાની થઇ જાય. રીક્ષા ખરીદી અને દિવસ રાત મહેનત કરી. આખરે દેવા મુક્ત થયા. લોડીંગ રીક્ષા પોતાની થઇ ગઈ. 

તોહીદ બચુભાઈને કામ અપાવવામાં પણ મદદ કરે અને સાથે સાથે માર્ગદર્શન પણ આપે. લોન ભરપાઈના સમાચાર બચુભાઈ એ આપ્યા કે, તોહીદે બચત કરવાનું કહ્યું. આ બચત જયારે જરૂર પડે ઉપયોગમાં લઇ શકાય અને કોઈ સામે હાથ લાંબો ના કરવો પડે.

આ વાતને ચાર મહિના થાય. રવિવારે બચુભાઈએ તોહીદને પાસ બુક બતાવી. જે જોઇને તોહીદ રાજી થઇ ગયો. બચુભાઈ કહે છે, ‘મારું ઘર હું જાતે બનાવીશ’ અથાગ મહેનતથી આ પરિવારો ધીમે ધીમે દરિદ્રતામાંથી ઉપર ઉઠે એજ અભ્યર્થના ..
