Meeting with the villagers of Waghpura 

 How long can one survive without air?  A few seconds maybe !! And without water? Maybe for a few hours!  And yet we undervalue both these resources.

VSSM initiated deepening village lakes in Banaskantha

 We save money, to help us sustain during a crisis or special needs. I reckon all of you would agree if I claimed that our underground water reserves are like our savings. Meaning they have to be reached out for only in case of dire need and stop drawing from these reserves once we have other options available. However, we have failed to do that. We kept using our groundwater reserves without responsibly giving back what was taken from nature’s reserves. Despite crippling water crisis, we have never felt the need to save water.  Rainwater is the only source of fresh water and we have not considered it necessary to catch and conserve it. According to a study by 2080, we shall run out of drinking water. It is time we wake up to the looming crisis. Water is the biggest threat there is.

VSSM initiated deepening village lakes in Banaskantha but just deepening the lakes is not going to be enough. Farmers will have to build farm ponds and plan the slop in such a way that rain waters from the village are captured in these reservoirs. If planned well the water tables in this region will begin to rise.

 The COVID19 crisis has impacted our water conservation works, we had to delay the beginning of this year’s works. Nonetheless, we are confident about excavating at least 25 lakes this year. The leadership of Banaskantha’s Lavana and Makhanu village is aware and proactive hence, the works there have already begun (as seen in the pictures).  We have had a meeting in Waghpura too and more were in planned, but the lockdown has crippled our movement.  According to our work protocol, we only begin work in the village after a proper briefing of the initiative.

I am grateful for the insights of our respected Rashminbhai, who made us pay attention to the water crisis and pushed me into working on the issue. It should be noted that the entire water conservation initiative functions under the guidance of Shri Rashminbhai.

 If we do not act now ‘WATER-WATER EVERYWHERE, NOT A DROP TO DRINK’ will soon be a reality.

 પાણી..

હવા વગર થોડી સેન્કડો જીવી શકાય..જ્યારે પાણી વગર કેટલાક કલાકો..

આપણે કમાણીનો અમુક ભાગ બચત તરીકે જુદો મૂકીએ.. મૂળ તો તકલીફ અથવા પ્રસંગોમાં એ પૈસો કામ આવે..

ત્રેવડ એ ત્રીજો ભાઈ કહેવાય, એવું નાનપણથી આપણને મા- બાપ શીખવે..

ભૂગર્ભજળ એ બેંકમાં મૂકેલી આપણી બચત જેવું.. એને રોજ ન વપરાય ખાલી જઈ જાય. કોઈ આરો ન હોય ત્યારે એનો ઉપયોગ કરાય અને જેવી સગવડ થાય પાછી બચત કરવાનું કરવું પડે..

પણ આપણે એમ કરતા નથી. ભૂગર્ભજળ ને બસ કાઢે જઈએ પાછુ આપવાનું તો કરીએ જ નહીં..

મીઠા પાણીનો સૌથી મોટો સ્ત્રોત વરસાદ.. આપણે એ વરસાદના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવવું જોઈએ.. પણ આપણે ઊણા ઉતર્યા છે.

એક સમાચાર પ્રમાણે આજ સ્થિતિ રહી તો 2080 સુધીમાં પીવાનું પાણી પણ નહીં બચે...

માટે જાગવાનો વખતઆવી ગયો છે..

અમે બનાસકાંઠામાં તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું આરંભ્યું છે. પણ ફક્ત ગામના તળાવો ગાળે ચાલશે નહીં... ખેડૂતો પોતાના ખેતરમાં પણ ખેતતલાવડી બનાવે.

આ તળાવ અને ખેતતલાવડીમાં એવો ઢોળાવ આપે કે વરસાદનું બધું પાણી વહીને એમાં ભરાય..

બે - પાંચ વર્ષે એ વિસ્તારના ભૂગર્ભ જળના તળ ઊંચા આવવા માંડશે..

આ વર્ષે કોરોનાના લીધે તળાવ ગળાવવાનું કામ થોડું મોડેથી શરૃ કર્યું છતાં 25 તળાવો ગાળી નાખીશું..

બનાસકાંઠાના લવાણા અને મખાણું બેય ગામના સરપંચ જાગૃત.. આ ગામોમાં થઈ રહેલું કામ ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.

મીટીંગ અમે વાઘપુરા ગામમાં કરેલી. હમણાં તો બેઠકો માટે નથી જવાતું.. કોરોનાએ પગમાં બેડીઓ બાંધી દીધી છે..

પણ ગામલોકો સાથેનો એ વાર્તાલાપ યાદ કરુ છુ. એક સમજણ આપ્યા પછી પાણીનું કામ શરૃ કરવાની VSSMની પરંપરા..

આદરણીય રશ્મીનભાઈ જેમણે પાણીના કામોમાં મને વાળી જેમના માર્ગદર્શન હેઠળ અમે આ કાર્ય કરીએ.. આપનો આભાર તમે બહુ મોટુ કામ અમને સમજાવી દીધું.

પાણી ફક્ત મનુષ્ય માટે નહીં પણ સમગ્ર જીવ સૃષ્ટિ માટે જરૃરી...

Kiara and Pihu's invaluable contributuon...

The nomadic families received their ration kits

A couple of days back, Chainikaben called from Mumbai. Pihu, her daughter happened to watch the vlog on our work during the COVID crisis. Pihu is the same age as my daughter Kiara. After listening to the talk she conveyed her desire to make a  contribution to VSSM.

Kiara too has been overhearing my conversions with the leaders from settlements who call me all through the day asking for ration. “Ma, these people really don’t have anything to eat?” she asked one day. I shared some images and videos with her. “How can I help them, Ma?” she had asked.

 Both these daughters are way too small to earn for themselves. But they do have a piggy bank where they drop their daily saving. 

 Furthermore, both of them donated their savings to VSSM, their very first contribution for a cause.

The contribution by Pihu and Kiara was used to provide ration kits to families residing at Rethal village near Ahmedabad.

The current living condition of nomadic families

 The reason for this post is to share the need to inculcate empathy in children from a very early age.  Are we instilling the right values in our children? We mould them, educate them to earn in thousands and lacs but do we teach them to share part of that earning with those in need? Are we raising them to become socially responsible humans?

Since the kits were from Pihu and Kiara’s contribution I personally went to distribute the kits in  the community. 

મુંબઈથી ચૈનીકાબેનને ફોન આવ્યો. તેમની દીકરી પીહુએ વિચરતી જાતિઓ સાથે કરેલા કામોના અનુભવો અંગેના વિડીયો સાંભળ્યા.

પીહુ મારી કિઆરા જેવડી. એણે વાત સાંભળીને મારે પણ કશુંક આપવું છે એવું ચૈનિકાબહેનને કહ્યું.

મારી કિઆરા પણ રોજ વિવિધ વસાહતોમાંથી મારા પર આવતા ફોન સાંભળે. લોકો ખાવાનું નથીની રાવ કરતા. એક દિવસ એણે કહ્યું, તે મા સાચ્ચે આ લોકો પાસે ખાવા નથી? મે ફોટો અને વિડીયો બતાવ્યા અને એણે કહ્યું, હું આ લોકોને શું આપી શકુ મા?

બંને દીકરીઓ નાની. એ તો ક્યાંથી કમાય?

પણ એમના ગલ્લામાં એમની નાની બચત ખરી.

પીહુ અને કિઆરાએ એમની બચત VSSMમાં આપી.

દીકરીઓનું પહેલું અનુદાન..

સાણંદ પાસેના રેથળ ગામમાં રહેતા પરિવારોને આ અનુદાનમાંથી રાશન આપ્યું.

આ પોસ્ટ બાળકોને કેવા સંસ્કાર આપી શકીએ એ માટે ખાસ લખી છે. કોઈની મહત્તા સાબિત કરવા માટે નહીં..

લાખો કમાવવાનું આપણે બાળકોને રોજ શીખવીએ પણ એ કમાણીનો અમુક ભાગ સમાજ માટે કાઢવાનું સમાજ વિજ્ઞાન બાળકોને્ શીખવીએ છીએ?

Team efforts make feeding thousands possible...

“Congratulations, you did a splendid job of bringing ration kits at the doorsteps of the deprived and marginalized families!!” many of you called us up to commend us on our efforts to provide ration to our vast family of nomads. Thank you all for the warmth and support.

Nonetheless, this would not have been possible without the hard work of a committed team. VSSM is blessed to have a team to be proud of. Whilst people had to avoid stepping out of the house, the members of our team embraced the virus scare and extreme heat to bring happiness to the families in despair.

 Our Harshad fell ill after being overtly stressed of never-ending work. He needed to be hospitalised. Three days later he was out of the hospital and back to work.

“Ben, there is a COVID positive case in this village where I have to go for distributing kits. I am afraid,” Ishwar tells me one day. “Take care, maintain distance, we are with you!” I told him. Ishwar gathered strength, distributed the kits and returned home safe.

 Ramesh was unwell but he efficiently planned the distribution jobs.

 Naran included other marginalised families along with our families.

 Kanubhai, Tohid and Rizwan worked constantly and tirelessly in two districts.

 Shankarbhai and Mohanbhai poured their hearts out.

Paresh, Mahesh, Ilaben, Madhuben, Shardaben, Pravin, Rajnibhai, Chayaben worked endlessly, from early morning until late at night they travelled to reach hungry families. Never did they care about their hunger.

Kanubhai portered the heavy kits into the trucks.

Jayantibhai brought ration kits to the families in Ahmedabad so what if his wife pleaded and shouted at him to not leave the house. “My work needs me right now!” he would reply.

Along with this determined team we had the very committed leaders Balubhai, Lalitbhai, Kanubhai, Umarbhai, Pratap, Jeevabhai from the people’s association we have inspired and formed. They provided us with strength when we needed.

Linesh, Prajakta, Kajal, Jitu, Amiben, Keya, Palak, Kirtan, Bharat, Sachin, Nisha, Nitin, Prakash, Swati from our Ahmedabad office mobilised the efforts.

Maulik provided constant guidance during this entire endeavour. 

 Of course, as always there was a stamp of approval and support from our Trustees and financial assistance from our well-wishing patrons and friends.

 All of these together helped us provide ration kits to thousands of vulnerable families on the verge of hunger and starvation.

 'કોરોનાની મહામારીમાં વંચિતોને રાશન પહોંચાડવાનું સુંદર કાર્ય તમે કર્યું. અભીનંદન...'

આવું કહેતા ઘણા લોકોના ફોન અને સંદેશા આવ્યા. આપ સૌની લાગણીને પ્રણામ.

પણ એક મજબૂત ટીમ વગર કોઈ દરેક કોઈ કાર્ય સફળ થતું નથી.

આવી મજબૂત ટીમ અમારી પાસે છે. લોકો ઘરમાંથી બહાર નીકળવાનું ટાળતા એ વખતે vssm ટીમના મજબૂત સાથીદારો બળબળતા તાપમાં લોકોને સુખ વહેંચવા ફરી રહ્યા હતા.

અમારો હર્ષદ સતત દોડાદોડાની લીધે બિમાર પડ્યો. હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ કરવો પડ્યો. ત્રણ દિવસ પછી હોસ્પીટલમાંથી રજા આપીને ચોથા દિવસે એ પાછો ફીલ્ડમાં લાગી ગયો.

ઈશ્વરે કહ્યું બેન, આ ગામમાં કીટ આપવાનું નારણભાઈએ કહ્યું, પણ અહીંયા કોરાના પોઝીટીવના કેસ છે. મને બીક લાગે છે. અને મે કહ્યું, તુ ધ્યાન રાખજે એક અંતર રાખીને કીટ આપવાની તો તને કાંઈ નહીં થાય. અમે છીએ તારી સાથે અને ઈશ્વર હીંમતથી કીટ આપીને આવી ગયો.

રમેશની તબીયત નાદુરસ્ત પણ સુંદર આયોજન સાથે એણે કાર્ય કર્યું. નારણે બનાસકાંઠામાં રહેતા અન્ય સ્વજનોને પણ વંચિતો સાથે જોડ્યા.

તો કનુભાઈ, તોહીદ અને રીઝવાને બે જિલ્લામાં સખત દોડાદોડી કરી.

શંકરભાઈ, મોહનભાઈએ તો હૃદય ઠાલવી દીધું.

આવું જ પરેશ, મહેશ, ઈલાબહેન, મધુબહેન, શારદાબહેન, પ્રવિણ, રજનીભાઈ, છાયાબહેને કર્યું. રાતના મોડે સુધી સતત વસાહતોમાં એ ભૂખ્યા લોકોને રાશન આપવા પોતે ભૂખ વેઠીને ફર્યા.

કનુભાઈએ તો વજનવાળી ભારેભરખમ કીટ પોતાના ખભે ઉપાડી ગાડીઓ ભરાવી..

જયંતીભાઈ અમદાવાદમાં રાશન પહોંચાડવાનું કર્યું. પત્ની લલીતાબહેન ના જાવની બૂમો પાડે પણ એ કહે, અત્યારે જ મારુ કામ છે...

આવી મજબૂત ટીમને અમારા લોકસંગઠનના પ્રહરી એવા બલુભાઈ, લલીતભાઈ, કનુભાઈ, ઉમરભાઈ, પ્રતાપ, જીવાભાઈ વગેરેએ.. પણ બળ પૂરુ પાડ્યું.

ઓફીસમાં આ કાર્યને વેગ આપ્યો, લીનેશ, પ્રાજકતા, કાજલ, જીતુ, અમીબેન, કેયા, પલક,કીર્તન, ભરત, સચીન, નિશા, નિતીન, પ્રકાશ, સ્વાતીએ

અને માર્ગદર્શન આપ્યું મૌલિકે...

ટ્રસ્ટીમંડળની મહોરતો હંમેશાં હોય જ.. સાથે પ્રિયસ્વજનોનો આર્થિક સહયોગ પણ ..

હજારો લોકોને રાશન આપવાનું આપ સૌ થકી થયું.

આપ સૌ સાથીદારોને પ્રણામ..

The language of Love...

“Ben, you are our parent. May God give you a long life.”

“I don’t want to live a  hundred years. And just saying that you respect me   doesn’t work!!”

“Why, what do we do then?”

“Leave smoking bidi and chewing tobacco, only then will I feel that you consider me one of your own and  that you respect me.”

“Arre Ben, when there was so much you could have asked all you ask for is Bidi? Here,  I give it up from today.”

Whilst this pleasant discussion was going on in Thawar’s Bharthari settlement many gave up their addiction and as you see in the last image one of the elders stood up to once again bless me and wish me a long life, live to be hundred years old.

The language of love.

I am reading Pujya Ravishankar Maharaj (Dada) these days. And his statement echo...

“When you do anything with the pure intention it will always bear great results!!”

I see this statement is coming alive….

'બુન તમે અમાર માવીતર.. ભગવોન તમન હો વરહનું આયુષ આલ..'

'મારે હો વરન નથી જીવવું. અને આવું મોન ખાલી બોલીન આલો એય ના ચાલ..'

'તાણ હું જોવ?'

'આ બીડી અને તમાકુ મેલો તો મોનું ક તમે મન હાચે તમારી મોનો અન મોનય ઘણું આલ..'

'અરે મારા બુન મોંગી મોંગી ન બીડી માજી.. લો મેલી બસ આજથી અબ ઘડીથી મેલી..'

થાવરની ભરથરી વસાહતમાં આવી મીઠી વાતો થતી હતી અને પછી તો ચપચપ કેટલાયે વ્યસન મુકી દીધું.. અને છેલ્લે ફોટોમાં દેખાય એ કાકાએ ઊભા થઈને માથે હાથ મૂકીને પાછા સતાયુના આશિર્વાદ આપ્યા..

પ્રેમની ભાષા..

આ દિવસોમાં પૂ.રવીશંકર મહારાજ (દાદા)ને વાંચી રહી છું દાદાનું એક વાક્ય બરાબર ગૂંજે છે..

'તું ઊંચી ભાવનાથી જે કંઈ કરશે તેનું ફળ ઉત્તમ આવશે'

આ વાક્ય એકદમ ચરીતાર્થ થઈ રહ્યું છે..

Respected Shri MorariBapu during the Ramkatha

 How do you react when someone very dear to you, whom you deeply adore suddenly calls you up?

It leaves you speechless, right?

“Bapu will be calling from Mahuva!” respected Madhavbhai, VSSM’s President had called up to inform. 

“Okay,” I had replied. 

While I was waiting for his call, I started framing my talk as I had already anticipated the reason behind his call. I knew he would have been worried about my large family like he has always been. 

 I was taking my lunch, must have gulped five morsels when Madhavbhai had called. I was unable to eat anymore. The phone rang, the person on the other end informed that Shri Morari Bapu was on the call, inquiring if I could take the call?

 Of course, it was convenient for me to take the call. After all, it was Bapu calling. 

 And suddenly I was at a loss of words. Someone like me who cannot keep quiet did not know what to talk. 

  I said yes and the person on the other end transferred the call to Bapu, my anxious heart was beating rapidly. 

 “How are you? How is the family? And how is our vast family?” Bapu was inquiring about me and my nomadic communities. 

“We are all good, Bapu. Pranam. Jai SiyaRam!”

Bapu inquired what how were we coping through the current crisis. I talked about our work. How we were handling the situation. 

“We will be sending our offering for your mammoth task,” Bapu said.

I thanked him. 

I had so much to tell him. But when it was time to talk, like always I was overwhelmed and speechless. But this time I conveyed it to Bapu that I am at a loss of words!!

 Bapu smiled, blessed us and said his Jai Siya Ram before disconnecting the call. 

 Strange, I was unable to speak even when Bapu had dedicated his Ram Katha to the nomads for the very first time. I never sat through and heard the entire Katha Bapu discoursed. Later, I conveyed everything I had to say through my letter. 

 Respected and dear Bapu you have always stood by our side, you have played a very important role in bringing before the world the plight of our nomadic and de-notified communities.

 I respect and adore your sentiments for the deprived. 

 I am yet to meet a saint-like Bapu. 

 Sharing one of my favourite images taken during the Ramkatha Bapu had dedicated to the nomadic communities. 

કોઈ એવું જે તમને ખૂબ વહાલું હોય, જેમના માટે અનહદ પ્રેમ હોય તેમનો અચનાક ફોન આવી જાય તો શું થાય?

ઘડીક તો શું બોલવું એ સુઝે જ નહી ને?

આદરણીય માધવભાઈ અમારી સંસ્થાા પ્રમુખ એમણે કહ્યું, મહુવાથી બાપુનો ફોન આવશે..

મે હા કહ્યું, હવે વાટ હતી ફોનની.. અંદાજ હતો.. મારા બહોળા પરિવારની ચિંતા માટે જ બાપુનો ફોન હશે.. છતાં શું બોલવું એ હું ગોઠવવા માંડી...

હું જમવા બેઠી હતી. પાંચ કોળિયા ખાધા હશે ત્યાં માધવભાઈએ સમાચાર આપ્યા પછી જાણે કોળિયો ગળેથી ઉતરે જ નહીં. ત્યાં ફોનની ઘંટડી વાગી અને સામેથી કોઈએ કહ્યું, પૂ. મોરારીબાપુ મહુવાથી વાત કરશે અનુકૂળ છે ને?

અનુકૂળતા કેમ ન હોય.. બાપુ વાત કરવાના હતા..

પણ કેટલુંયે ચબડ ચબડ બોલતું મારુ મોઢું આ ઘડીએ સાવ જ સિવાઈ ગયું.

હા કહ્યું ને એ ભાઈએ બાપુને ફોન આપ્યો..

હૃદયના ધબકારાની ગતિ વધી ગઈ..

કેમ છે? પરિવાર કેમ છે? અને આપણો બહોળો પરિવાર કેમ છે? વિચરતી જાતિઓના અને મારા ખબર અંતર બાપુ પુછી રહ્યા હતા.

સૌ સારા છીએ.. બાપુ.. પ્રણામ, જયસીયારામ બાપુ..

બાપુએ પુછ્યું હાલમાં શું કરી રહ્યા છો? જવાબમાં હાલમાં VSSM દ્વારા થઈ રહેલા સેવાકાર્યોની વાત કરી.

એમણે કહ્યું, તમે સૌ જે કરી રહ્યા છો એમાં થોડી પ્રસાદ મોકલી આપીશું..

મે આભાર માન્યો..

આમ તો મારે ઘણું કહેવું હતું..

પણ જ્યારે પણ એમની સામે બોલવાનું આવે ત્યારે મોઢું સિવાઈ જ જતું.

આજેય એવું જ કાંઈક થયું.. પણ આ વખતે મે બાપુને કહી દીધું..

બાપુ શબ્દો ખુટી ગયા છે..

બાપુએ સ્મિત કર્યું અને આશિર્વાદ કહ્યા ને મે જય સીયારામ અને પ્રણામ કહીને ફોન મૂક્યો..

કેવું છે.. બાપુએ પહેલીવાર વિચરતી જાતિઓ માટે રામકથા આપેલી ત્યારે પણ આવી જ દશા થયેલી.. કોઈ દિવસ બાપુની આખી કથાય નહોતી સાંભળેલી.. ત્યારે પણ એક પત્ર લખીને મનની ભાવના વ્યક્ત કરેલી..

પૂ. અને વહાલા બાપુ તમે હંમેશાં અમારી સાથે રહ્યા છો. વિચરતી જાતિઓની ઓળખ દુનિયામાં પ્રસ્થાપિત કરવામાં આપની ભૂમિકા અગત્યની રહી.

તમારી આ લાગણીને વંદુ છું બાપુ અને તમને બહુ બધો પ્રેમ પણ...

બાપુ જેવા સંત મે આજ સુધી દીઠા નથી...

વિચરતી જાતિઓને આપેલી રામકથામાં અમે લીધેલા ફોટોમાંનો સૌથી ગમતો ફોટો... બાપુ પ્રત્યેનું હેત દર્શાવવા મુક્યો છે..

“Ben, please take this cheque!”

“Who has given this?”

“The living conditions of our families will still deteriorate. People are still shouting for food. This is my contribution to the same.”

As I accept the cheque of Rs. 5000, the early days of 2006 when Jayantibhai had voluntarily joined me in my work with nomadic communities came flashing back. An angry young man, Jayantibhai could never tolerate any wrong. It was much later that I could offer him a very small remuneration for the work he was putting in until then, he never brought up any mention of money. Even today his remuneration does not match the amount of hard work he pours in. And yet to have this strength and graciousness to give from whatever he has is a trait I applaud.

Ravji Bhagat Bajaniya conveyed, “Ben has helped us so much, it is our turn now. If we decide to not to take things for free, that too shall be of big help!!”

 These words uttered by Ravji Bhagat calms my mind. 

 Bharat and Sanjay, our children in one of the VSSM run hostel broke their piggy bank and transferred Rs 2500, all of their savings of previous many years to us via Paytm to help us buy some more ration kits for our families. 

 Ravjibhai Bajaniya runs a small business, he sells wood. He donated Rs. 5000 as well. 

 Along with our well-wishing donors who make donations in lakhs we have our community members too sending their contributions to us. It is easy to give for people who have but to be able to give and offer when one has little or nothing calls for a lot of courage and a very big heart. 

 Many have said, “Ben, we will borrow some money to pass this time. Once we being working will return the borrowed money. How long can we eat food given as charity? It is a big obligation on us. How do we pay forward?” 

 Salute to all of you who have shown sentiments. 

 “I hope COVID teaches people to save and plan for a secured future. I have to push them to get into a habit of savings once this emergency is over. ” Jayantibhai shared a very honest observation. 

 Jayantibhai is often referred to as VSSM’s 108 – a person you reach out during emergencies. I am glad that you are part of us.

'કોણે આપ્યો?'

'આપણા પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ હજુ વણસવાની. લોકો ખાવાનું આપોની રાવ કરી રહ્યા છે. તે મારુ અનુદાન..'

5000ની રકમના અનુદાનનો ચેક.. મે હાથમાં લીધો ને જયંતીભાઈ બજાણિયા મારી સાથે સેવાકાર્યમાં જોડાયાનો વખત યાદ આવ્યો.

કેવા ગુસ્સાવાળા. ખોટું જરા પણ ન ચલાવે એવા તડને ફડ કરવાવાળા જયંતીભાઈ 2006 થી સ્વંયમભૂૂ મારી સાથે આવ્યા.

નાનકડી સેવક સહાય તો બહુ પાછળથી આપવાની શરૃ કરેલી પણ ક્યારેય પૈસાને લઈને અમે કોઈ વાત કર્યાનું મને યાદ નથી.. આજેય એમને અમે કાંઈ બહુ મોટું ચુકવતા નથી. પણ એમની પાસે જે છે એમાંથીયે થોડું આપવાની ભાવના કેળવાવી એ મારે મન અગત્યનું.

રવજીભગત (બજાણિયા) કહ્યું, 'બેને આટલી મદદ કરી હવે આપણો વારો.. આપણે મફતનું લેવાનું નહીં કરીએ એય બેનને કરેલી મોટી મદદ છે..'

ભગતના આ શબ્દો મારા મનને શાતા પહોંચાડે છે..

અમારી હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણતા ભરત અને સંજયે પોતાની વર્ષોની બચત જેમાં ભેગી કરી રાખી હતી તે ગલ્લો ખોલ્યો અને તેમાંથી નીકળેલા 2500 રાશનકીટ માટે પેટીએમ થકી અમને મોકલી આપ્યા.

તો રાવજીભાઈ બજાણિયા લાકડાનો નાનો વેપાર કરે. એમણે 5001નું અનુદાન જયંતીભાઈને ફોન કરીને લઈ જવા કહ્યું.

આ દિવસોમાં લાખોનું અનુદાન આપનાર અમારા પ્રિયજનોની લાઈનમાં આ લોકો ઊભા છે..

હોય એમાંથી આપવાનું બધા કરી શકે પણ થોડું હોય એમાંથી થોડું કાઢી આપવા દીલેરી જોઈએ..

કેટલાક પરિવારો એવા પણ મળ્યા જેમણે કહ્યું, બેન ઊછીના પાછીના કરીને આ દિવસો નીકળે એની વ્યવસ્થા કરીશું. ધંધા શરૃ થશે એટલે એ બધુ ભરાઈ જશે પણ ધર્માદુ ખાઈને એને ક્યાં ચુકવવું?

આવી ઉત્તમભાવના વાળા આપ સૌને પ્રણામ..

જયંતીભાઈ કહે, કોરાનાની આ મહામારીમાંથી લોકો બચત અને આયોજન શીખે તો ઘણું. મારે તો આ બધા પછી આ બાબતમાં વધારે કામે લાગવું છે...

જયંતીભાઈ જેમને હું VSSMની 108 કહુ છુ. તમે સાથે છો એનો આનંદ વ્યકત કરુ છુ.

“Ben, can you give me your number?”

“where do I write it? Do you have a piece of paper?”

Thus begins the rush to search for paper from the garbage hip nearby while some organised one would have a slim diary in his pocket. There are chances that the diary they give me would be upside down as none of them is equipped to read a written word. To the ones taking the number on a  piece of paper lifted from the garbage I would warn to not lose it, “this is dearer than our life, I can never miss it. This is our friend in need!!” they would reply.

The current times have made them feel the need to call. Some call for help while others call to say take care and stay at home!!

I am grateful for your concern and care.

'બુના તમારો નંબર આલો..'

'શામાં લખી આપું? કાગળ આપો..'

અને પછી શરૃ થાય આજુબાજુ કચરામાં પડેલા કાગળિયા શોધવાની કવાયત અથવા કોઈના ખીસ્સામાંથી નીકળે પાતળી નાની ડાયરી. આ ડાયરી ખોલી આપનાર પાછા ડાયરી ઊંધી આપે..

સીધું લખાણ ક્યાંથી લખાય એનીયે ખબર નહીં...

કાગળિયામાં નંબર લખનારને હું કહુ કે,

'કાગળિયું તો ખોવાઈ જશે' સાંભળીને એ લોકો કહે, 'ના બુના ઓન તો જીવ ઘોડે હાચવીશું. વખો પડ તાણ કોમ આવ..'

આજે વખો પડ્યો તો ઘણાના ફોન મદદ માટે તો ઘણાના ફોન ઘરબારા ના નીહરતા, હાચવજો એવું કહેવા આવ્યા..

તમારા સૌની આ હૃદયભીની લાગણી માટે પ્રણામ..

Summers are a lean season for agriculture. Farms that have irrigation facilities might have some work potential for rest however these are no workdays. Our communities are asking for work in the regions they have been required to stay put.

 The Government has instructed for the MNREGA works to begin but there is not much work happening at the rural level,  maybe because people are afraid!! How long shall we fear is a question that repeatedly pops up a lot these days!!

There are still calls for ration coming in. We are trying to reach as many families as we can with the ration kits. VSSM has not yet stopped its efforts to provide ration to the families in distress.

Ration kits have been distributed at Gundada Crossroads, Umada crossroads, a settlement near  Jetalpur Tree Hotel areas in Rajkot; Bhimpura, Parsa, Lodra, Fatehpura, Amrapur, Mahudi, Aajol, Bilodra villages of Mehsana and Gandhinagar. The support we have received from all of you has helped us reach thousands of these families.

હા જ્યાં પિયત વાળી જમીન હોય ત્યાં કદાચ થોડું કામ મળે બાકી તો નવરા ધૂપ..

આવામાં કામ આપોની થોડી ઝીણી પણ બૂમો તો છે જ..

સરકારે મનરેગામાં કામ શરૃ કરવાની સૂચના આપી છે પણ ગ્રામ્ય સ્તરે ઝાઝો અમલ થતો નથી.. મૂળ તો લોકો ગભરાઈ ગયા છે.

પણ ગભરાઈને ક્યાં સુધી બેસી રહીશું?

ખાવાનું આપોની માંગ જ્યાંથી આવી રહી છે તેમાંથી શક્ય સુધી પહોંચવા કોશીશ કરી રહ્યા છીએ..

રાજકોટમાં ગુંડાળા ચોકડી , ઉમાડા ચોકડી ,જેલતપુર ટ્રી હોટલ પાસે આવેલી વસાહતમાં મહેસાણા અને ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લાના ભીમપુરા ,પરસા ,લોદરા , ફતેહપુરા, અમરાપુર ,મહુડી ,આજોલ ,બિલોદરા વિવિધ ગામડામાં આવેલી વિવિધ વસાહતમાં રાશન કીટનું વિતરણ અમારા પ્રિયજનોના સહયોગથી કરી રહ્યા છીએ..

Respected Shri Mansukhbhai Mandviya is a very compassionate and sensitive individual. Some 8 months back he was at our office in Ahmedabad. The visit provided us with an opportunity to discuss some pressing issues revolving around the nomadic and de-notified communities.

A few days back he called us up to inquire about the conditions of the nomadic communities reeling under the COVID 19 induced lockdown. It indeed is a moment to rejoice when people in power show their concern about the citizens and call up workers like us to understand the real conditions the poor and deprived are enduring.

Some four days ago, I once again received a call from his office to inquire if we needed more ration to provide to the families we are working providing ration kits during the lockdown. “there is no dearth of need, we have more takers than we can reach…”

“Many industrial houses offer help and support, Sir felt it would be apt to link them to the nomadic communities through your organisation. Sir has already asked a particular industrial house to connect with you,” shared Raddiyabhai, secretary to Mansukhbhai Mandviya.

A lot of well-wishing friends have been directing help towards us. Shri Masukhbhai has been thoughtful for remembering us, VSSM is grateful for his kind gesture towards the nomadic communities.

We value leaders who share the plight of the people they serve and Mansukhbhai is in a league of his own!!!

Hoping this pandemic becomes a pass soon and life gets back to normal soon…

આદરણીય શ્રી મનસુખભાઈ માંડવિયા...

બહુ લાગણીશીલ વ્યકિત. આઠેક મહિના પહેલાં અમારી ઓફીસ પર આવેલા. એ વખતે વિચરતી જાતિઓના કામો અંગે ઘણી વાત થયેલી..

થોડા દિવસ પહેલાં એમનો ફોન આવેલો.. કોરોનાને લીધે ગરીબોના જીવનમાં પડી રહેલી અસરો, લોકડાઉન વગેરે સંદર્ભે પણ તેમણે ઘણું પુછ્યું અને વિસ્તારથી તેમની સાથે વાત થઈ હતી.

સત્તા સ્થાને બેઠેલા વ્યક્તિઓ આ રીતે પ્રજાની ચિંતા કરી તેમની સ્થિતિ અંગે અમારા જેવા સેવકો સાથે વાત કરી સ્થિતિનો સાચો જાયજો લે એ ઘડી આનંદની..

ચારેક દિવસ પહેલાં પાછો તેમના કાર્યાલય પરથી ફોન આવ્યો અને વિચરતી જાતિઓ, ગરીબ માણસોને તમે રાશન આપવાનું કરી રહ્યા છો તેમાં જરૃરિયાત છે એ અંગે પુછ્યું. મે કહ્યું, આભ ફાટ્યું છે અમે તો થીગડાં દેવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ.

મનસુખભાઈના સેક્રેટરી રાદડિયાભાઈએ કહ્યું, સાહેબને ઘણા ઉદ્યોગકારો મદદ માટે ક્યાંય જરૃર હોય તો કહેજો એવું કહેતા હોય છે. તે સાહેબે તમારા માધ્યમથી વિચરતી જાતિઓને મદદ પહોંચાડવા એક ઉદ્યોગગૃહને કહ્યું છે.

આ દિવસોમાં આંગણી ચિંધવાનું પુણ્ય ઘણા કરી રહ્યા છે.. મનસુખભાઈએ પણ એ કર્યું. આભાર તો માનવાનો જ હોય.. પણ વિચરતી જાતિઓ માટે દાખવેલી વિશેષ લાગણી માટે કૃતજ્ઞતાભાવ પણ વ્યક્ત કરુ છુ

પ્રજાના પ્રહરી પ્રજાની આવી ચિંતા કરે એ ગમે જ.. આમ પણ મનસુખભાઈ બહુ નોખી માટીના માનવી છે.

દેશ માથે આવી પડેલું આ સંકટ ઝટ ટળે અને આપણે ઝડપથી બેઠા થઈ જઈએ એવી શ્રદ્ધા....

Water Management work beguns in Banaskantha

Yes, the COVID19 pandemic has brought life to a standstill, for a very long time it will be safe to stay at home. However,  as they say, life must go on and we will have to begin working soon. The cycle of nature does not wait for anything, it keeps changing.

 The monsoons will arrive in a month and a half, the water crisis is all around it’s just that the news of it is buried under the weight of COVID news.

 If the times had been normal, the water conservation works we initiated a few years ago would have been progressing at full swing this summer,  especially in Banaskantha.

 VSSM's team at the grassroots shared the concern and opined that it was crucial we initiated the lake excavation works as soon as possible. The team has been up and about during this pandemic induced lockdown, they fearlessly ventured out and supplied ration kits to the families in need in some of the most remote corners of our state. And now they are willing to move away from whatever comforts they have in their villages to stay on the outskirts of some other village and begin the lake deepening works.

We spoke to the villagers, they too showed preparedness to provide tractors if the works commenced. We requested the district collector to provide us with permissions to do the same under the government’s Sujlam Suflam Scheme, to our great relief things are falling in place.

Lake deepening works have begun in Khorda and Rajkot villages of Banaskantha’s Tharad. VSSM works in partnership with the government and village.

 Water is life and we cannot afford to let it slip by even during this crisis. I am sure mother nature will agree to this….

ઘરમાં રહીએ સુરક્ષીત રહીએ એ સાચુ પણ કામ તો કરવું પડશે ને?

કુદરત તો એના નિત્યક્રમ પ્રમાણે ચાલવાની જ.. એ કોઈની રાહ જોઈને નથી બેસતી..


આગામી એકાદ દોઢ મહિનામાં વરસાદ પડવાનો. પાણીનું સંકટ પણ માથે છે જ ખાલી એના સમાચાર અત્યારે કોરાનાની મોટી બૂમના કારણે સંભળાતા નથી.


પાણી બચાવવાની અમારી ઝૂંબેશના ભાગરૃપે બનાસકાંઠામાં તળાવ ગળાવવાની અમારી ઝૂંબેશ અત્યારે તો પૂર બહાર શરૃ થઈ ગઈ હોત પણ કોરોનાએ આ વખતે જરા બ્રેક મારી..


VSSMની મજબૂત ટીમે તળાવોના કામ ઝટ આરંભીએ એવી ભાવના વ્યક્ત કરી. ડર્યા વગર રાશનકીટનું વિતરણ તો એમણે કર્યું હવે પોતાના ઘરથી છેટે કોઈ બીજા ગામમાં સુખ સુવિધાઓ વગર રહીને તળાવોના કામ કરવા બધા તૈયાર હતા.


ગામલોકો સાથે તળાવો ગળાવવા બાબતે વાત કરી અને એ લોકો પણ તળાવો ગળાય તો ટ્રેક્ટર આપવાની સહમતી આપી.


સરકારે શરૃ કરેલા સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજના અંતર્ગત તળાવો ગાળવામાં સરકારનો સહયોગ મળે તે માટે કલેક્ટર શ્રીને વિનંતી કરી અને બધુ સમુ સુતરુ ગોઠવાયું.


બનાસકાંઠાના થરાદના ખોરડા અને રાજકોટગામમાં તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાના કામો શરૃ કર્યા.

સરકાર, VSSM અને ગામની ભાગીદારીથી તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું શરૃ કર્યું છે... જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.


પાણી સમગ્ર જીવસૃષ્ટિ માટે જરૃરી.. કુદરતને પણ સમગ્ર જીવ સૃષ્ટિ માટે થઈ રહેલા આ કાર્યને લઈને રાજી થશે....
