 "Do visit our crematorium once!"

If one isn’t aware of our work, such an invite to visit a crematorium can create a stir. But the community leaders of Ramsan village were inviting us out of their love, to showcase the beautiful place it had become.

However, eight months ago if there was a death in the village, 8-10 family members would first visit the crematorium to clean it, following which the body was brought for cremation. The place was briming with the wild growth of gando baval and litter all around. With the support from UNI Design Jewellery Pvt. Ltd and the local community, we planted 3500 trees, and almost all of them have taken roots and flourished.

The region's groundwater tables have dropped to alarming rates, and the communities have leased 4500 hector land to solar companies. But, unfortunately, the installation of solar plants means the trees had to give their sacrifice. The reason the land was leased is that it had no water, but if we plant trees and create an environment that helps attract rains, people will not be forced to give up their land but farm on it. This is the reason everyone now wishes to plant more trees. 

We hope Ramsan can inspire other villages to play their part; each village roughly needs to plant 20 to 25 thousand trees. This is the dire need for a sufficient water future.

'તમે એક વખત અમારા સ્મશાનમાં આવો!'

સ્મશાનમાં આવવા કોઈ આગ્રહ કરે અને અમારા કામથી પરિચીત ન હોય તો ઝઘડો જ થઈ જાય. પણ અમને તો પ્રેમવશ રામસણના આગેવાનો પોતાના સ્મશાનમાં આમંત્રણ આપી રહ્યા હતા. 

આઠેક મહિના પહેલાં ગામમાં કોઈ સ્વજનનું મૃત્યુ થાય તો સૌથી પહેલાં દસ પંદર લોકો સ્મશાન સાફ કરવા આવે અને સફાઈ થયા પછી ડાઘુઓ મૃતદેહને લઈને સ્મશાનમાં આવે. એવું ગાંડાબાવળ અને ગંદકીથી ભરેલું આ સ્મશાન.

જ્યાં ગામની ભાગીદારી અને અમારા સ્વજન યુની ડીઝાઈન જ્વેલરી પ્રા.લી.ની મદદ થી અમે 3500 વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. આ વાવેલા વૃક્ષો જબરા ઉછર્યા. 

આ વિસ્તારમાં પાણીના તળ ભયજનક સ્થિતિએ પહોંચ્યા છે. ગામની લગભગ 4500 હેક્ટર જમીન લોકોએ સોલારકંપનીઓને ભાડે આપી દીધી છે. સોલાર પ્લાન્ટ નંખાય એટલે વૃક્ષો કપાય. સાથે આ જમીનો આપી દેવાનું કારણ તળમાં પાણી નહીં. જો વૃક્ષો વવાશે તો વરસાદ આવશે ને તળ ઉપર આવશે. લોકો ફરી ખેતી કરતા થશે એવી ખેડૂતોને આશા છે. એટલે વૃક્ષો માટે સૌને હવે મમતા થવા માંડી છે. 

રામસણ પાસેથી અન્યગામો શીખે ને પોતાના ગામમાં ઓછામાં ઓછા 20 થી 25 હજાર વૃક્ષો ઉછેરે. આ થવું આવનારા સમય માટે ઘણું જરૃરી.

“Have you shared such a strong bond from the very beginning?”

“Yes, I think we were destined to live like sisters. Our husband passed away some time back; he was a little older than me, and so is she. My husband was not keeping good health; it was when I decided to work as a cook and domestic helper at a doctor’s house in Baroda. So I took up the responsibility of earning for the three of us and kept sending the money to my husband and step-wife!”

Manjula Ba’s talk did come as a surprise. She lost her husband to a long illness; his first wife is Savitriben, while Manjulaben is his second wife,  who also runs the household.

The yearning for a child made Kaka marry twice, but that aspiration was never fulfilled. Kaka operated a grocery store in Navsari, but as age and frail health caught up, he closed the business. The savings were exhausted on his age-related medical issues. Ultimately, they returned to  Chunel,  his native village in Kheda district. Kaka has left both of them a small house. However, both of them are incapable of working hence bringing food on the plate is a problem. The duo tries to survive on the quota available on their ration card and pension for older people, but money for medicine, etc., remains a challenge.

“I always prayed to Goddess Jagdamba to keep us under her wings. It was as if she answered my prayers and sent us to help through VSSM’s Rajnibhai. God bless Chunel’s Dilipbhai for talking about us to Rajnibhai, who now brings us a monthly ration kit.”

The Mavjat initiative helps 435 destitute elderly with food; the support we receive from our well-wishers helps us operate this much-needed initiative. You may also choose to adopt an elderly by offering financial contributions.

'તમારા બેઉ વચ્ચે પહેલેથી આવો મેળ?'

'હા. બધુ ઉપરવાળો નક્કી કરે. અમે તો બહેનોની જેમ રહીએ. અમારા ઘરવાળા હમણાં ગુજરી ગયા પણ એ બેઉ મારા કરતા થોડા મોટા. એમની તબીયત સારી નહોતી રહેતી ત્યારે હું વડોદરા એક ડોક્ટરના ત્યાં રસોઈ અને ઘરનું કામ કરવા રહી અને ત્યાંથી બેઉને પૈસા મોકલાવતી અને એમનું ગુજરાન ચાલતુ.'

નવાઈ લાગે એવી વાત મંજુલાબાએ કરી. તેમના પતિ લાંબી માંદગીમાં ગયા. એમના પહેલા પત્ની સાવિત્રીબહેન અને બીજા મંજુલાબા. 

ઘરનો કારભાર મંજુલાબા જ જુએ. ને સાવીત્રીબા એમનું બધુ માને. બાળક માટે થઈને કાકાએ બે લગ્ન કરેલા. પણ બાળક ભાગ્યમાં નહોતું.

કાકા નવસારીમાં નાનકડી દુકાન ચલાવતા. ઉંમર થઈ ધંધો બંધ થયો. માંદગીમાં ઘણો ખર્ચ થઈ ગયો. છેવટે હાથે પગે આવી ગયા. એટલે નવસારી મુકી પોતાના વતન ખેડાના ચુણેલગામમાં આવીને રહ્યા.

એક નાનકડુ ઘર બેઉ બા માટે કાકા મુકીને ગયા તે બેઉને માથુ ઘાલવાનું હખ છે. પણ કામ થતું નથી એટલે ખાવા પીવાની તકલીફ પડતી. 

રાશનકાર્ડ પર મળતા રાશન અને વૃદ્ધ પેન્શન પર આ બે નભવા કોશીશ કરે. પણ દવાઓને અન્ય જરૃરિયાતો તો ઊભી રહેતી. 

મંજુલાબા કહે, 'મા જગદંબાને રોજ પ્રાર્થના કરતી કે નોંધારા ના મુકતી. તે જાણે ભગવાને પ્રાર્થના સાંભળી હોય એમ ચુણેલના દિલીપભાઈએ રજનીભાઈ (VSSM ના કાર્યકર)ને વાત કરી અને એમણે સ્થિતિ જોઈ અમને દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું જેનાથી અમને ઘણી રાહત છે.'

VSSM થકી અને આપ સૌ સ્વજનોની મદદથી દર મહિને 435 નિરાધાર બા દાદાઓને રાશન આપવાનું ્અમે કરીએ.

It takes one sensitive individual to join the efforts, and like a rolling stone, their compassion will gather more people to connect and join the mission. Over the years, VSSM has grown as a family as an increasing number of compassionate individuals join its efforts to better the lives of marginalized families.

Since its early days, VSSM has been fortunate to receive support from many Mumbai-based well-wishers. Respected late Shri Pradeepbhai Shah and Respected Rashminbhai Sanghvi have held our hand at the beginning of this journey, they have championed our mission all the way, and as a result, many well-wishing friends from the Bombay Chartered Accountants Society joined VSSM’s efforts.

Whenever I am in Mumbai, I get to meet the numerous members of this BCAS. On my recent trip to Mumbai, they organized a special talk to share the work VSSM does. Our dear Meenabahen Shah initiated the idea while respected Mihirbhai Sheth, Mayurbhai Nayak, Krishnakumar Jhunjhunwala agreed. It was a beautiful evening spent in the company of like-minded people, discussing the matters that concern all of us. BCAS is completing 75 years of its foundation and plans to create a forest of 75000 trees in partnership with us.

I am grateful for the opportunity BCAS provided to share about VSSM’s journey.

એક વ્યક્તિ પહેલ કરે અને પછી તેની સાથે ધીમે ધીમે અનેક લોકો જોડાતા જાય ને સતકાર્યોની જ્યોત ચોમેર અજવાસ પાથરતી જાય.

અમે શરૃ કરેલા સેવાકાર્યોમાં આજ રીતે લોકો જોડાતા ગયા ને VSSM થોડા લોકોનું નહીં પણ અનેક લોકોનું બન્યું.

મુંબઈમાં ઘણા પ્રિયજનો શરૃઆતથી અમને સહયોગ કરે. એમાં આદરણીય પ્રદિપભાઈ શાહ જેઓ સદેહે આપણી વચ્ચે નથી પણ એ અને આદરણીય રશ્મીનભાઈ સંઘવી આ બેઉએ અમારો હાથ પકડ્યો ને પછી તો Bombay Chartered Accountants Societyના ઘણા પ્રિયજનો સાથે જોડાયા. વખતો વખત મુંબઈ જવું ત્યારે સોસાયટી સાથે સંકળાયેલા ઘણા સ્વજનોને મળવાનું થાય. હમણાં મુંબઈ જવાનું થયું ત્યારે એમણે ખાસ VSSM દ્વારા થતા સેવાકાર્યોની વાત કરવા નિમંત્રણ આપ્યું. પ્રિય મીનાબહેન શાહે પહેલ કરીને આદરણીય મિહીરભાઈ શેઠ, મયુરભાઈ નાયક, ક્રિષ્ણકુમાર ઝુનઝુનવાલા સૌ સ્વજનો એ પહેલને વધાવી. 

અને બસ સંધ્યા સમયે ઘણી વાતો થઈ. 

BCAS ની સ્થાપનાને 75 વર્ષ પુર્ણ થાય છે. આ નિમિત્તે 7500 વૃક્ષોનું જંગલ તેઓ અમારી સાથે રહીને કરશે. 

BCASએ પોતાના ત્યાં આવી વાત કરવાની તક આપી તે માટે સૌ સ્વજનોની આભારી છું..

Each year, as the realities of climate change and global warming become increasingly pronounced, the pressure on life-sustaining natural resources also turns acute. For example, it is believed that in the coming years, erratic weather patterns will impact the availability of potable water, and humans will face severe difficulties in accessing drinking water.

Under such circumstances, it becomes critical to have mandatory efforts to conserve and manage water in place. VSSM’s Participatory Water Management Initiative focuses on repairing and strengthening the existing water bodies and increasing sensitivity towards the looming water crisis. The ill-maintained community lakes can no longer hold rainwater for more than a few months after monsoon. As a result, they cannot recharge the groundwater tables. Therefore, VSSM takes up the deepening of village lakes, which has led to raising the groundwater levels and making water available for the local flora and fauna. Creating a maximum number of water shrines is the need of the day.

Until last year we have deepened 210 lakes in Banaskantha. We have barely launched the current year’s efforts and have already deepened eight lakes.

The water conservation efforts VSSM takes up are participatory; hence,  the community also shares the responsibility. VSSM appoints and bares the cost of the JCB machine while the community has to take up the cost of moving the excavated soil. As a result, the lakes are deepened with the joint efforts of VSSM, its well-wishers, and the community.

The lake at Bodal village in Banaskatha’s Deesa is being deepened with the support of Mumbai based respected Shri Ulhasbhai Paymaster. He doesn’t share any affinity with Banaskantha, but because water conservation is the need of the day, he opted to support us. We are grateful for his thoughtful contribution. 

Our religious scriptures associate the creation of public water facilities as the greatest act of charity and have equaled it the be as virtuous as performing 100 yagnas. We wish an increasing number of people to contribute to water conservation efforts just as they donate to crowdfunding efforts to build temples. We encourage you to contribute to our ongoing efforts of water conservation.

જળ બનાવી શકાતુ નથી માટે એને બચાવવું પડે. કહેવાય છે વિશ્વ આવાનારા સમયમાં આજે જે સંકટ વેઠી રહ્યું છે તેનાથીયે વધારે સંકટ વેઠશે.

ત્યારે પાણીના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવવું જરૃરી. અમે તળાવો ઊંડા કરીએ જેથી વરસાદી પાણીનો સંગ્રહ થઈ શકે. ગામના ખેડૂતોને તો એનો ફાયદો થાય જ પણ ભૂગર્ભજળ ઉપર આવે સાથે પશુ પંખીઓ પણ પાણી મેળવી શકે.

બનાસકાંઠામાં અમે ગત વર્ષ સુધી 210 તળાવો ઊંડા કર્યા. આ વર્ષનું જળસંચયનું કામ હમણાં શરૃ કર્યું અને બનાસકાંઠામાં આ સીઝનના પણ 8 તળાવો ઊંડા થઈ ગયા.

વધારે ને વધારે જલમંદિરો બને તે આજના સમાયની જરૃર.

અમે જેસીબી મશીન મુકીએ અને ગામલોકો માટી ઉપાડવાનું કામ કરે. આમ ગામ, VSSM અને VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોની મદદથી તળાવ ઊંડા થઈ રહ્યા છે.

બનાસકાંઠાના ડીસાના બોડાલગામનું તળાવ અમે મુંબઈમાં રહેતા આદરણીય શ્રી ઉલ્હાસભાઈ પેમાસ્ટરની મદદથી ખોદી રહ્યા છીએ. તેમનો ઘણો આભાર. બનાસકાંઠા એમનું વતન નથી પણ પાણીનું કામ કરવું જોઈએ એવું એ માને માટે મદદ કરે.

તમે પણ આ કાર્યમાં સહભાગી બની શકો. આપણા ધર્મશાસ્ત્રોમાં તળાવ ગળાવવાના પુણ્યને સો યજ્ઞના પુણ્ય સાથે સરખાવ્યું છે.

સાથે ગામલોકો પણ જાગે એ જરૃરી. જો કે પહેલાં કરતાં આજે પાણીને લઈને ઘણી જાગૃતિ આવી છે. બસ વધારે લોકો જેમ મંદિર બાંધવા લોકોફાળો કરે તેમ તળાવો માટે કરતા થાય અને સ્વયંમ આ કાર્યો કરવા માંડે તે ઈચ્છનીય..

In Banaskatha’s Vaghrol village, VSSM partnered with the Forest Department for the tree plantation drive and achieved excellent results. The Forest Department had pledged to plant 6000 trees in the village and requested our support to achieve the target. VSSM installed a drip irrigation system on the space the department had planted trees and also decided to supplement the remuneration the Forest Department pays to the Vriksh Mitra. As a result of these partnerships, almost all trees planted in Vaghrol are thriving.

VSSM has received support from Shri Piyushbhai Kothari of Jewelex Group to carry out this plantation.

In my opinion, organizations or civil society should always come forward and support the government in any endeavors meant for the greater good. It ensures a better outcome. The results have been great not just in Vaghrol but wherever VSSM has teamed up with the Forest Department.

And these splendid trees share the same opinion.

જંગલ વિભાગ સાથે ભાગીદારી કરી અમે ઉત્તમ પરિણામ મેળવ્યું. વાત છે બનાસકાંઠાના વાઘરોલગામની. વનવિભાગે 6000 થી વધારે વૃક્ષોગામમાં વાવવાનો નિર્ધાર કર્યો. તેમણે અમારો સહયોગ માંગ્યો. અમે જે જગ્યા પર વૃક્ષો વવાયા ત્યાં ડ્રીપ કરી અને વૃક્ષમિત્રને જંગલવિભાગ જે પગાર આપે તે ઉપરાંત અમે પણ સેવક સહાય દર મહિને આપવાનું કર્યું. જંગલ વિભાગ સાથે થયેલી આ ભાગીદારીના લીધે વાઘરોલમાં વાવેલા મોટાભાગના વૃક્ષો આજે ઉછરી રહ્યા છે.

આ કાર્ય માટે અમને આદરણીય શ્રી પિયુષભાઈ કોઠારી- જ્વેલેક્ષ ગ્રુપે મદદ કરી. 

મારા મતે સરકારના જે પણ કામો સાથે સંસ્થા કે સમાજની ભાગીદારી થઈ શકતી હોય તો તે કરવી જોઈએ. બેય સાથે મળે તો ઉત્તમ પરિણામ મળે છે.વાઘરોલ ને અન્ય જે પણ જગ્યાએ અમે જંગલ વિભાગ સાથે ભાગીદારીમાં કામ કર્યું તેમાં આ જોયું. તમે પણ વાવેલા ઝાડ કેવા સરસ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે તે જોઈ શકો છો..

Crematoriums are not the places we frequent; someone reading my stories might think I visit crematoriums often. And I do. Not to attend funerals but to further our efforts to make crematoriums of Banaskantha green to make them beautiful and relaxing.

Recently, I was in Gogapura village of Banaskantha’s Deesa block. We are deepening the lake in this village this year, but two years ago, we planted 1000 trees at the crematorium here. Since I was in the village, I thought of visiting the crematorium and seeing how the trees were doing! It was a beautiful site; the trees were growing well under the care of Bhupatji, the Vriksh Mitra.

On witnessing the trees flourish, the village youth, Sarpanch Kishansinhji, and Vice-Sarpanch Rajubhai, requested a similar tree plantation drive at the crematorium for the Dalit community. The proactiveness of local leadership plays a vital role in carrying out development work in the villages. Each village should have Sarpanch like Kishansinhji.

Planting native trees that help attract birds and bees with their fruits and flowers helps maintain the region's biodiversity.

મૃત્યુ જીવનની ઈતિશ્રી નથી પણ પૂર્ણવિરામ આપ્યા પછી નવીન અનુચ્છેદની પ્રગલ્ભ જીવનની પુનઃ શરૃઆત છે.  મૃત્યુ જીવનનું વિરામ સ્થળ છે. વિનોબા ભાવે કહેલી આ વાત જ્યારે પણ કોઈ સ્મશાનમાં જવું ત્યારે અચૂક યાદ આવે. 

આમ તો સ્મશાનમાં વળી કોણ જાય? કોઈ પહેલીવાર આ વાંચે ત્યારે એમને થાય પણ ખરુ કે આમ આ બેન આમ જાણે વારંવાર સ્મશાનમાં જતા હોય એમ કેમ લખે છે! પણ જવુ છું હું વારંવાર સ્મશાનમાં અને એનું કારણ સ્વજનને કે કોઈને સદેહે વળાવવા નહીં પણ જ્યારે દૈહિક રીતે વિરામ લીધા પછી શરીર જ્યાં રાખમાં મળે તે સ્મશાન કેવા મજાના હોવા જોઈએ એ વિચાર સાથે સ્મશાનને હરિયાળા કરવાનું અમે બનાસકાંઠામાં શરૃ કર્યું. એટલે વારંવાર સ્મશાનમાં જઈએ.

હમણાં બનાસકાંઠાના ડીસાના ગોગાપુરાગામમાં જવાનું થયું. આમ તો અમે ત્યાં તળાવ ઊંડુ કરી રહ્યા છીએ. પણ આ ગામના એક સ્મશાનમાં અમે બે વર્ષ પહેલાં 1000 વૃક્ષો વાવેલા. આ વૃક્ષો કેવા થયા એ જોવા ગયા ને જોઈને રાજી થવાયું. વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછર્યા. વૃક્ષમિત્ર ભૂપતજીએ સરસ સંભાળ રાખી. 

ગામના એક સ્મશાનમાં વાવેલા વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછર્યા એ જોઈને ગામના દલીત સમાજના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવા ગામના યુવા અને જાગૃત સરપંચ તેમજ ઉપસરપંચ શ્રી કિશનસીંહજી અને રાજુભાઈએ વિનંતી કરી. આ બેઉ ઘણા ઉત્સાહી છે ગામના વિકાસમાં પોતે સક્રિય રીતે કાંઈક નક્કર કરવાની ભાવના રાખે.. 

આવા સરપંચ દરેક ગામમાં ઈચ્છનીય. 

સાથે ગામના સ્મશાન અને ખરાબાની ખાલી પડેલી જગ્યાઓ પર સારા વૃક્ષો, ફળ અને ફૂલ આવે તેવા વવાય તે પણ ઈચ્છનીય. વૃક્ષ વાતાવરણને સમતુલીત રાખવામાં મદદ કરે છે. બસ એટલે વધારે વૃક્ષો વવાય તેમ ઈચ્છીયે.

"I did not have to spend a single penny for the election. I have worked a lot for the poor people of my village; hence the village elected me as their Sarpanch. Once again!"

Shri Kumbhabhai, Sarpanch of Delthi village of Banaskantha's Vav block, shared the above. And he was speaking the truth; he played a pivotal role in bringing the benefits of various government schemes to the widow, handicapped, impoverished elderly, and other low-income families in need to support. He took the necessary measures and followed up on each application with the government office.

Rani Maa is a destitute elderly from the village; after Kumbhabhai shared her plight with our team member Bhagwanbhai, we sent a monthly ration kit to her. Along with the widow pension, the ration kit helps provide food security to Rani Maa. Recently, when we were in the village to meet Rani Maa, Kumbhabhai was also present, and Rani Maa showered praises on him and all his excellent work. "It is my duty to work for you all!" Kumbhaji had said.

But isn't it the duty of all Sarpanchs? How many of them try to identify the people in need of support and bring it to the government's notice? And it continues; how many follow-ups until the issue has been resolved?

In fact, my meeting with Kumbhaji reminded me of my visit to a village in Sabarkantha, where I met 18 women, primarily destitute or widowed. All of them are poor, but none receive any welfare support from the government. And no one was keen to ensure these women were linked with government welfare programs. Only one woman, who was not related to any of these Ba but was empathetic towards their condition, made efforts to ensure some benefit reached them. All these older women stayed in mud houses, yet, their income certificates the Panchayat had issued were all above Rs. 1.20 lacs. On the other hand, Sarpanch, like Kumbhaji, makes sure the required is done to bring the government benefits to those who need them the most.

We salute Sarpanch like Kumbhaji and pray that this story inspires other sarpanches to fall in line!

 "ચૂંટણીમાં મારે એક રૃપિયો ખર્ચવો નથી પડ્યો. પણ મારા ગામના ગરીબગરબાની મે ખુબ સેવા કીધી. એટલે ગામે મને ફેર જીતાડ્યો."

બનાસકાંઠાના વાવતાલુકાના દેથળીગામના સરપંચ શ્રી કુંભાભાઈએ આ કહ્યું. એમની વાત પણ સાચી હતી. ગામમાં રહેતા વિધવા બહેનો, વૃદ્ધ નિરાધાર અને વિકલાાંગ વ્યક્તિઓ આ બધાને સરકાર દ્વારા જે સહાય મળે તે સહાય અપાવવામાં એમની ભૂમિકા મહત્વની. અલબત એમણે એ માટે ઘણી દોડાદોડી કરી. 

ગામમાં રહેતા નિરાધાર રાણીમાને VSSM માંથી રાશનકીટ મળે તે માટે તેમણે અમારા કાર્યકર ભગવાનભાઈને કહેલું ને અમે રાણીમાને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. મૂળ સરકારી પેન્શન સાથે અમારી કીટ રાણી મા માટે મોટા ટેકા જેવી. અમે રાણીમાને મળવા ગયા ત્યારે કુંભાજી પણ ત્યાં હાજર. રાણીમાએ એમના ભરપૂર વખાણ કર્યા. કુંભાજીએ કહ્યું, મારી ફરજ છે ને મારે કરવાનું હોય. 

પણ ફરજ તો દરેક ગામના ઘણી - સરપંચની પણ કેટલા સરપંચ ગામમાં રહેતા સાચા જરૃરિયાતમંદને શોધી તેમની તકલીફોની વાત સરકારી સુધી પહોંચાડે? વળી પહોંચાડવું જ પુરતુ નથી પહોંચાડ્યા પછી સમાધાન પણ શોધી કાઢે. 

સાચુ કહુ તો કુંભાજીને મળ્યા પછી હમણાં સાબરકાંઠાના એક ગામમાં ગયેલી તે ગામ યાદ આવ્યું. જ્યાં એક સાથે લગભગ અઢાર બાઓને હું મળેલી જેમાંના ઘણા નિરાધાર હતા, ઘણા વિધવા હતા. આર્થિક સ્થિતિ નબળી પણ તેમને સરકારની સહાય મળતી નહોતી. ગામના કોઈને એમને સહાય મળે તેમાં રસ નહોતો. એક બહેન જેમને આ બધા બા સાથે કોઈ નાતો નહીં પણ માનવતાના ધોરણે એ પ્રયત્નો કર્યા કરે. પણ આ બધા બા કાચા ઘરોમાં રહે. છતાં આ બાઓમાંથી કેટલાકને તો આવકના દાખલાય 1.20 લાખથી વધુની આવકના પંચાયતે કાઢી આપેલા. ત્યારે કુંભાજી તો સામે ચાલીને કોઈ બાકી રહી ન જાય તેનો ખ્યાલ રાખે. આવા સરપંચને સલામ કરવાનું મન થાય.. 

બાકી કુંભાજી જેવા સરપંચોને સલામ ને જેઓ હજુ આ ભૂમિકામાં નથી આવ્યા તેમને ભગવાન સદબુદ્ધી આપે તેવી પ્રાર્થના...

Poshina is a hilly region inhabited by various Adivasi tribes of Gujarat. The tribals have minimal needs and live close to nature, carrying terrace farming on this hilly terrain.

The forest regions of the eastern belt of Gujarat that are home to the Adivasis of the state are blessed with perfect monsoons but poor irrigation facilities. As a result, the population takes Kharif and Rabi crops. Mostly the families farm until wells have water, after which they migrate to distant regions like Palanpur, Ahmedabad, and Baroda in search of work. Many take up shared farming, but if the region has water, it could prevent many families from migrating for work. If there was water, cattle farming could also be possible for them.

We decided to deepen the lakes in this region. Respected Pratulbhai Shroff of Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation offered to donate for these efforts, but we wanted to try to bring such measures under the purview of the government’s Sujalam Sufalam Scheme. To make this possible, we received the support of Cabinet Minister respected Shri Rushikeshbhai Patel; his proactive instructions to authorities helped iron away the challenges we encountered in the process.

Poshina TDO Shri Nareshbhai Chowdhry helped acquire the documents required to take up the deepening of lakes. Shri Chowdhry is a very empathetic official who wants to work for the betterment of his region. As a result of his support, we could furbish documents for 25 lakes to the Jal Sampati Nigam, of which work orders for 11 lakes were allotted to us, and we launched the deepening work in Mama Pipla village after performing the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony. The community had gathered at the government school in the village; they expressed their gratitude for the efforts and welcomed our proposal to provide interest-free loans to families wanting to deepen wells that dry up during summer.

We hope to work for the progress and prosperity of the people of Poshina block through Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation. I am grateful to the administration of Poshina and respected Shri Rushikeshbhai.

પોશીના આદિવાસી જન સમુહ ધરાવતો ડુંગરાળ વિસ્તાર. લોકો ડુંગર પર ઢોળાવવાળી ખેતી કરે. મર્યાદીત સંસાધનો વચ્ચે જીવવાનુું. આમ તો આ બધા કુદરતની  નજીક. 

વરસાદ સારો પડે પણ પાણી રોકાણની વ્યવસ્થાઓ સરખી નહીં. પરિણામે ચોમાસુ અને શિયાળુ ખેતી થાય. આમ તો કુવા ભરેલા હોય ત્યાં સુધી ખેતી થાય. પણ જેવા કુવા ખાલી કે ત્યાંથી સ્થળાંતર શરૃ. પાલનપુર, અમદાવાદ, બરોડા જે મળે તે કામ માટે સ્થળાંતર કરે. ઘણા ખેતીના કામો માટે સાથી ભાગીયા તરીકે પણ કામ કરે. આ વિસ્તારમાં પાણીનું સુખ થઈ જાય તો કોઈને પોતાનું મુળ છોડીને બહાર નથી નીકળવું. 

પાણીનું સુખ થાય તો પશુપાલન પણ થાય. 

બસ અમે આ વિસ્તારમાં તળાવ ઊંડા કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશને એ માટે આર્થિક મદદ માટે કહ્યું. પણ પ્રયત્ન અમારે સરકારની સુજલામ સુફલામ યોજનામાં આ કામો લેવાય તેવો કરવાનો હતો. એ માટે આદરણીય ઋષીકેશભાઈ પટેલ માનનીય મંત્રી શ્રીએ ખુબ સહયોગ કર્યો. જ્યાં તકલીફ આવી ત્યાં એમણે સંલગ્ન અધિકારીને સૂચના આપી.

તળાવો માટે દસ્તાવેજો ભેગા કરવાનું કામ પણ ભારે મુશ્કેલી વાળુ. એ માટે પોશિના ટીડીઓ શ્રી નરેશભાઈ ચૌધરીએ ઘણી મદદ કરી. એકદમ ઉમદા અધિકારી. જેમનામાં પોતાના વિસ્તારના ભલા માટે કાંઈક કરી છુટવાની ભાવના ભારોભાર. એમણે મદદ કરી અને 25 તળાવોના ડોક્યુમેન્ટ અમે જળ સંપતિ નિગમમાં આપી શક્યા. 

જેમાંથી 11 તળાવો કરવાના વર્ક ઓર્ડર અમને મળ્યા ને અમે મામા પીપળાગામમાં તળાવમાં ભૂમીપૂજન કરીને તળાવ ગાળવાનું કાર્ય આરંભ્યું. ગામના સૌ પ્રાથમિકશાળામાં એકત્રીત થયા. સૌએ તળાવ ગાળવા માટે આભાર માન્યો. અમે તળાવો ઉપરાંત જેમના કુવા ઉનાળામાં સુકાઈ જાય છે તે તમામના કુવા ઊંડા કરવા લોન આપવાની પણ વાત કરી ને સૌએ એ વધાવી. 

પોશીના તાલુકામાં વસતા લોકોની સુખાકારીમાં ડો.કે.આર. શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન થકી મહત્તમ કામ કરી શકીએ તેવી આશા રાખીએ છીએ.. અને અધિકારીગણ તેમજ આદરણીય ઋષીકેશભાઈનો ઘણો આભાર માનુ છું.
