‘You did it, that too in such a short period!!”  Dhedhal’s Govakaka tells us.

VSSM and Dhedhal village share an old friendship. The proactiveness of Sarpanch Bharatbhai enabled us to deepen a lake, plant and raise 3000 trees around the village cemetery. Govakaka had asked us to deepen the lakes of  Dhedhal and Dama villages. VSSM accomplished these tasks with the support of Jewelex Foundation. A jubilant Govakaka dropped in to meet us while we were at the village to monitor the accomplished tasks. 

The community lake at the Dama village has turned into a shallow pit, to be visible only on the village map. As it has happened with all villages, as we began exploring groundwater the value of lakes diminished over the decades. How long can the groundwaters feed our greed? The waters depleted to as low as 1100 feet, there were no systems to recharge the groundwater while there were encroachments into the lake. Ultimately, the villagers worked together to remove the encroachments and we deepened the lake. The lake was linked with the Narmada pipeline hence, we expect the groundwater levels to rise in the coming few years.

Once we had planned for water we moved to tree plantation. Amratbhai from the village assured all possible support to make space to enable us to carry out the plantation drive. We will be planting and raising 3000 trees in Dama with support from GACL. Amratbhai, Dama’s Sarpanch and all friends are committed to supporting the environmental conservation efforts.

We hope other villages too rise to the occasion and support environmental conservation efforts in their respective villages.

ઢેઢાલના ગોવાકાકાએ કહ્યું, 'તમે કરી બતાવ્યું એય ટૂંકા સમયમાં જ..'

#ઢેઢાલ સાથે નાતો થોડો જૂનો. ત્યાં અમે તળાવ ગાળેલું ને ગામના સ્મશાનમાં ને સ્મશાન બહાર O2h ની મદદથી 3000થી વધુ વૃક્ષો ઉછેર્યા. સરપંચ ભરતભાઈએ એ માટે ખુબ મદદ કરી. 

ઢેઢાલ અને દામાની સીમનું તળાવ ગાળવા ગોવાકાકાએ અમને કહ્યું. ને અમે એ કાર્ય જવેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી પૂર્ણ કર્યું. એટલે હરખે ગોવાકાકાએ તળાવ જોવા ગઈ એ વેળા આ કહ્યું. 

દામાનું સીમ તળાવ ચોપડે ખરુ પણ ધીમે ધીમે એ ખાબોચિયા જેવું થઈ ગયેલું. મૂળ બોરવેલથી સિંચાઈ શરૃ થતા તળાવોનું મહાત્મય ઘટ્યું.. પણ બોરવેલેય ક્યાં સુધી પાણી આપ્યા કરે.. આખરે તળ પહોંચ્યા 1100 ફૂટથી વધુ ઊંડા તળ સતત રીચાર્જ થવા જોઈએ.. પણ એ ન થયું અને તળાવમાં દબાણ થયું. 

આખરે ગામના સૌએ મળીને દબાણ ખાલી કરાવ્યું ને તળાવ ગળાયું. નર્મદાની પાઈપલાઈન સાથે તળાવ લીંક એટલે આગળના ત્રણ ચાર વર્ષમાં આ વિસ્તારમાં જબરજસ્ત ફરક પડવાનો એ નક્કી...

પાણીનું આયોજન તો થયું હવે વાત હતી વૃક્ષ ઉછેરની..ગામના અમરતભાઈએ પંચાયતની જમીનમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા શક્ય તમામ મદદની ખાત્રી આપી. દામામાં આ વર્ષે GACLની મદદથી 3000 થી વધુ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરીશું. અમરતભાઈ, દામાના સરપંચ ને અન્ય મિત્રો વૃક્ષ ઉછેર માટે શક્ય તમામ સહયોગ કરવા કટીબદ્ધ..

આશા રાખીએ દરેક ગામ પાણી અને પ્રર્યાવરણની ચિંતા સેવે અને જાગે...

“This is rainwater,” Kataav sarpanch Maheshbhai clarified as we had assumed that the water in its village lake was from Narmada. It was the month of June and we weren’t expecting the lake holding water from the previous monsoon.

Mahesbhai added, “after the lake was de-silted and deepened it could hold the rainwater, the farmers around the lake were able to sink borewell and draw water from 100 feet. Kavaat’s earth belly was empty up till 500-600 feet while potable water was available at 1150 feet. VSSM’s efforts to deepen the lakes have recharged the groundwater tables to 100 feet.

“This lake has given water to our cattle all through the year,” shared a maldhari Kaka who had brought his cattle to the lake.

It did bring me great joy.

VSSM has been instrumental in the deepening of these lakes because of the financial support it has received from its well-wishing donors all of who have been blessed a hundred times.

 જૂન મહિનામાં વરસાદી પાણીથી ભરાયેલું કટાવનું તળાવ અમે જોયું. પ્રથમ થયું નર્મદાના પાણીથી ભરાયેલું હશે પણ ગામના સરપંચ મહેશભાઈએ ચોખવટ કરી કે ભરાયેલું પાણી વરસાદી.

ગામના સરપંચે કહ્યું, આ તળાવ ગળાયું ને એમાં પાણી ભરાવાના લીધે તળાવ આસપાસના ખેડૂતો સો ફૂટના બોર કરીને પાણી મેળવવા લાગ્યા..

કટાવમાં પાણીનું ઉપલુ તળ 500 -600 ફૂટનું ખાલી હતું. પીવાનું પાણી એ લોકો 1150 ફૂટના બોર કરીને મેળવે આવામાં તળાવ ગળાવવાથી 100 ફૂટના તળ રીચાર્જ થયા.

અમે તળાવમાં ગયા તો એક કાકા પોતાની ભેંસોને તળાવમાં પાણી પીવડાવવા લાવેલા. કાકાએ કહ્યું, 'અમારા જેવા માલધારીઓના માલ ઢોરને પણ આ તળાવે બારે મહિના પાણી આપ્યું'

સાંભળીને મન હરખાયું.

VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરે. આપણા ધર્મ શાસ્ત્રોમાં તળાવ ગળાવનારને સો યજ્ઞોનું પુણ્ય મળે એવું લખેલું તમે બધાય આ પુણ્યના હકદાર...

 “What can an officer do?”

Every time I am invited to speak at the newly appointed administrative  officers’ meet, the organiser invariably poses the above question, “What can an officer do?”

I can write a book on the sweet-sour experiences we have had with the officials as we engage with them for the work related to the communities we work with. However, I choose to share only the positive stories of our engagement with the officials.  One such officer is Shri Anand Patel.

Our team was thrilled when he was transferred to Banaskantha as its district Collector. There was hope and enthusiasm amidst the team for quicker redressal of long pending issues.

VSSM not just works with the marginalised communities but has also embarked upon participatory water conservation and tree plantation drives. We had the opportunity to meet Anandbhai to explore the ways to work with the administration, but the pandemic derailed the plans we had made.

We were hesitant to follow up on the plans as the authorities were busy tackling the situations emerging as a result of lockdowns and Covid waves. After the second wave subsided,  Anandbhai himself called up, “Covid cases have ebbed a little, we can now focus and work to resolve the work we had planned,” he conveyed on the call.

Subsequently, he convened a meeting of all regional officers, the District Development Officer, Chief of Forest Department, Supply Officials, Agriculture officer and all those concerned with our plans. He urged them to make the most of the opportunity bestowed upon them to work within the given time frame and redress the pending issues of the marginalised families. He also fixed updates for the follow-up meeting for the same.

Anandbhai is a deeply rooted and empathetic individual.  “As a child, I have witnessed nomadic communities in my village it would be an honour to work for their betterment,” he had shared during a meeting while he was district collector of Patan.

'એક અધિકારી શું કરી શકે?'

નવ નિયુક્ત અધિકારીઓની તાલીમમાં મારે વકતવ્ય આપવા જવાનું થાય ત્યાં દર વખતે વકતવ્ય ગોઠવનાર વ્યક્તિ આ પ્રશ્ન પુછે..

સરકારી કચેરીમાં બેઠેલા અધિકારીઓ સાથે થયેલા ખાટા - મીઠા અનુભવો તો પુસ્તક થાય એટલા.. પણ હંમેશાં હકારાત્મક ભાવથી કાર્ય કરનાર અધિકારીની વાત હું ઉ.દા. રૃપે રજૂ કરુ...

આવા અધિકારીઓમાંના એક આનંદ પટેલ..

બનાસકાંઠામાં એમની ટ્રાન્સફર થઈ. એ વખતે બનાસકાંઠાના અમારા કાર્યકરો હરખાયેલા.. મૂળ આપણા કામોને વેગ મળશે એવી એમને આશા..

વિચરતી જાતિઓના પડતર પ્રશ્નો સંદર્ભે તેમજ બનાસકાંઠામાં અમે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું ને જળ સંચયનું કાર્ય કરીએ.. આ કાર્યમાં વહીવટીતંત્ર કેવી રીતે સહયોગ કરી શકે તે માટે અમે એમને મળેલા પણ કોરોના આવતા બધુ ઠપ્પ થયું..

કોરોનાનો સમય એટલે કાર્યોની ફરી ઉઘરાણી કરતા જરા ખચકાટ થતો ત્યાં એમણે સામેથી  'કોરોનાનો પ્રકોપ હળવો થયો છે એટલે આપણા બીજા કામો જે થઈ નથી શક્યા તે ઉકેલવામાં મહેનત કરીએ' એવું કહ્યું.

એે પછી એમણે બનાસકાંઠાના તમામ પ્રાંતઅધિકારી, જિલ્લા વિકાસ અધિકારી, જંગલ વિભાગના મુખ્ય અધિકારી, પૂરવઠા અધિકારી, ખેતીવાડીના અધિકારી ટૂંકમાં લાગતા વળગતા સૌને બોલાવ્યા ને સૌને આપણને આવા સુંદર કાર્યો કરવાની તક આપી છે એમ કહીને સમયમર્યાદામાં કાર્યો પૂર્ણ કરવા તાકીદ કરી..ને ફોલોઅપ બેઠક પણ નક્કી કરી..

મૂળ આનંદભાઈ જમીન સાથે જોડાયેલા. એ પાટણ કલેકટર હતા તે વેળા કહેલું, 'નાનો હતો ત્યારે ગામમાં આવતા વિચરતી જાતિના લોકોને જોયા છે એમના માટે કાંઈ પણ કરી શકુ તો રુણ ઉતાર્યાનું લાગશે... '

તમે જમીન સાથે જોડાયેલા છો એટલે આ વિચારી શકો છો..  આપ જેવા અધિકારીઓને દેશ ઈચ્છે છે..

“This won’t convince me, take a vow!”

“Your word is our command, Ben. Yet if you insist I vow in the name of our community Goddess.”

And Sadik broke into pieces the bidi pack he was carrying with him.

“If you break your pledge the Goddess will be really angry.”

“Oh Ben, trust me, when I have committed to you, I will not break the pledge till the end of my life.”

“Think twice before committing, you cannot break Ben’s trust.” Sadik’s wife who was standing next to us  warned him.

Sadik and his wife have worked hard, borrowed money to buy a plot with a  dream to build a house upon it.

VSSM, with the support from its well-wishers  and  Government assistance  has helped 29 families of Chapi build houses of their own.  Sadik happened to see these houses coming up and approached us for some help. If you help me, I too will be able to build my own house,” he had shared while requesting for support.

“Why should we help you when you have enough money to waste on  bidi?” I had questioned him when he had come to meet us with this request, with bidi in hand. As I always do, I  gave him a long lecture on these life threatening habits. In his response to my lecture, Sadik pledged to leave smoking bidi.

Since the well-being of these humans is dear to me, I take the liberty to scold them if required. But what is important here is the right they  have given me to rebuke them. It truly is a blessings to have such dear ones. 

'તમે કો'છો તે આજથી આ બીડી મેલી..'

'એમ ન માનું. ખાવ તમારી માતાના હમ..'

'તમન કીધુ એટલે પતી જ્યું બુન તોય વિસવા ના આવતો હોય તો લો મા જોગણી ના હમ'

એમ કહીને સાદીકે બીડીની ઝૂડી મારી સામે તોડી મે કહ્યું,

'જો જો વચન તોડશો તો મા જોગણી તમને ઝાલશે હો...'

'મારી બુન તમન એક ફેરા કઈ દીધુ પસી બધુ આઈ જ્યું..'

સાદીક બોલી રહ્યો હતો ત્યારે એની ઘરવાળી એની બાજુમાં ઊભી હતી એણે કહ્યું,

 'જોઈ વિચારન્ વચન આલજે હો બુન આગળ ખોટા પડીએ એ ના ચાલ..' સાદીક ને એની ઘરવાળીએ મહેનત મજુરી કરીને અને થોડા ઘણા ઉછીના પાછીના કરીને છાપીમાં ઘર બાંધવા પ્લોટ ખરીદેલો. 

મૂળ #છાપીમાં #વિચરતી_જાતિના 29 પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવામાં સરકારની સહાય ઉપરાંત #VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મદદ કરે. આ પરિવારોના બંધાતા ઘર જોઈને સાદીકને સરકાર ને સંસ્થા મનેય મદદ કરે તો મારુયે ઘર થઈ જાય એવી લાગણી થઈ. તે આ વાત કરવા એ આવ્યો ને હાથમાં બીડી જોઈ મે એને બીડી પીવા પૈસા છે તો અમે શું કામ મદદ કરીએ વગેરે કહીને ટેવ પ્રમાણે લાંબુ લેક્ચર આપ્યું જવાબમાં સાદીકે બીડી છોડી..

આ બધા વહાલા છે એટલે એમને વઢી શકુ.. 

પણ અગત્યનું એમણે આ અધિકાર આપ્યો એ છે...કુદરતની કૃપા હોય તો જ આવા સ્વજનો મળે.. એ રીતે હું નસીબદાર

 “Where are you headed, Kaka?” someone asked Nathakaka while he passed through the village.

“Mahodiye!”

“to book your place?”

“No, to dig pits.”

The pits were for planting trees.

VSSM has carried out a tree plantation drive in Banaskantha’s Juna Deesa. Nathakaka, who loves nurturing the trees has been a great help in raising these trees. Once Kaka had shared the above incident which,  had cracked me into laughter. I so hoped for others also to follow suit.

We have taken up the task of planting trees in Banaskantha. This year the plan is to plant 1.5 lacs trees. We are in the process of finalising the villages where the plantation will be undertaken. As a part of the process, I was in Juna Deesa recently.

We have plans to plant and raise 2500 to 3000 trees with support from Rosy Blue (India) Pvt. Ltd. on the grounds of Ramapir Bhawan temple.

VSSM’s strategy to appoint a ‘vruksh mitr’ to care and nurture the planted trees has assured trees are well-looked after. The village youth too is enthused to do their best for the upcoming drive.

Banaskantha’s Forest Department has also assured all the support they can.

We have pledged to make Banaskantha green and bring rains to the region, to make it water sufficient and  make it prosperous once again…

 ગામની વચમાંથી પસાર થતા  નાથાકાકાને કોઈએ પુછ્યું,

ચમ જગ્યા રોકવા?''ના ખાડા કરવા..' આ ખાડા કરવા એટલે વૃક્ષો વાવવાના ખાડા...

બનાસકાંઠાના જૂના ડીસામાં અમે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરીયે. વૃક્ષપ્રેમી નાથાકાકા એની દેખરેખમાં ઘણી મદદ કરે.  તે કાકાએ એક વખત આ બીના કહેલી.. સાંભળીને ઘણું હસવું આવ્યું. પછી થયું કાશ આવા ખાડા સૌ કરતા થઈ જાય તો...

છેલ્લા બે વર્ષથી બનાસકાંઠામાં વૃક્ષ ઉછેરનું અભીયાન હાથ ધર્યું છે. આ વર્ષે દોઢ લાખ વૃક્ષ ઉછેરવાનો સંકલ્પ છે. ગામો નક્કી થઈ રહ્યા છે.. આ પ્રક્રિયાના ભાગરૃપે જૂના ડીસા જવાનું થયું. 

રામપીર ભગવાનના મંદિરમાં રોઝી બ્લુ (ઈન્ડિયા) પ્રા.લી.ની મદદથી  2500 થી 3000 વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું ને વાવ્યા પછી ઉછેરવાનું આયોજન છે. 

VSSMની આગવી પદ્ધતિ વૃક્ષ ઉછેર માટે પગારદાર વૃક્ષમિત્ર રાખવાની. ગામના યુવાનોની ટીમ પણ બહુ ઉત્સાહી.

જંગલવિભાગ બનાસકાંઠાએ પણ મદદ કરવાની ખાત્રી આપી.હરિયાળુ બનાસકાંઠાનો પ્રકલ્પ છે.. મૂળ વરસાદ આ વિસ્તારમાં ઓછો પડે વૃક્ષો વાવીશું તો વરસાદ થશે ને સુખાકારી વધશે..

Food, shelter and housing are the three fundamental needs of human life. Yet it is difficult to have these three together for some impoverished families. And when they face nature’s fury, the challenge to survive multiplies.  Life seems like a never-ending nightmare. 

 Covid’s second wave has snatched away livelihoods and for many, it has taken away the chief earning member of the family. As if this was not enough cyclone Taukatae ravaged the lives of many families of Saurashtra. 

 Come rain or shine, the human body will need food when it is time. With all food damaged it was either water or nothing to be fed especially for the kids in the family. Begging was the only option these families had been left with.

 Comprehending the need for time VSSM decided to supply ration kits to the affected families. So far we have been able to provide ration kits to 1500 families and we continue to reach more families. All of this has been possible because of the support we have received from our well-wishing friends who always choose to support us.

રોટી, કપડાં, મકાન માણસની પ્રાથમિક જરૃરિયાત.. પણ એક સાંધતા તેર તૂટે એવો તકાજો જેના ઘરે હોય એને આ ત્રણેય એક સાથે મેળવવું મુશ્કેલ. એમાં ક્યારેક કુદરત રુઢે ત્યારે તો જીવવું બહુ કપરુ લાગે.

કોરોનાની બીજી લહેરે કેટલાયની રોજી છીનવી તો કેટલાય પરિવારે ઘરની ધુરા સંભાળના મુખ્ય વ્યક્તિ ગુમાવ્યો. આવામાં ઓછુ હતું તે તૌકતે વાવાઝોડુ આવ્યું ને સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં કેટલાય પરિવારનું બધુ તહેસનેહસ કરી નાખ્યું..

ગમે એવી આફત આવે પણ પેટ તો સમય થાય એટલે ભાડુ માંગે જ. પણ ઘરમાં કશું હોય નહીં ને બાળકોનેય પાણી પીને સુવડાવવા પડે અથવા વાટકો લઈને માંગવા મોકલવા પડે એ લાચારી..

સ્થિતિ સમજીને અમે રાશનકીટ આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. 1500થી વધુ પરિવારોને આજ સુધી રાશન પહોંચાડી શક્યા અને આ યજ્ઞ અવિરત ચાલુ છે..આ સઘળું VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્નેહીજનોની મદદ વગર ક્યાં સંભવ હતું. 

પૂ. મોરારીબાપુ, શ્રી મહર્ષીભાઈ અને ઋતુ દવેએ સ્પર્શ થકી તો શ્રી મિલનભાઈ શાહે કુદરતી ઉપચાર ટ્રસ્ટ થકી એ સિવાય શ્રી અમીતભાઈ શાહ, શ્રી જયંતભાઈ અમીન, શ્રી બળવંતભાઈ મેતલિયા, માધવી મહેતાએે ઝાલાવાડ ચેમ્બર ઓફ કોમર્સ એન્ડ ઈન્ડસ્ટીઝ થકી તો કવિતાબેને રાજકોટની સેન્ટ મેરી સ્કૂલ થકી ટૂંકમાં ઘણા પ્રિયજનોએ મદદ કરી એટલે આ સંભવ થઈ શક્યું. આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા ભાવ વ્યક્ત કરુ છું.

આમ તો આદર્શ સ્થિતિ આવી મદદ આપણે કોઈને કરવી ન પડે એજ હોય ને એવી સ્થિતિ નિર્માણ કરવા માટે ભગવાનને પ્રાર્થના..

“These sheets (tarpaulin) are strong and sturdy. If used well, we need not worry for the next 2-3 years. The cyclone took away our roof and walls, but these sheets will ease our monsoon pains. This year we will experience some peace during monsoons.” Bhagwanbhai from Amreli’s Bagasara shared this sentiment on receiving a tarpaulin sheet given to cover their roof.  

Cyclone Tauktea devastated Saurashtra. VSSM,with support from Krishnakant Uncle and Indira  Auntie and Milanbhai Shah of Kudrati Upchar Trust provided tarpaulin sheets to 528 families from Amreli and surrounding regions whose roofs were blown away by the cyclone.

Ramjibhai shared how they tackled the onslaught of covid's
devastating second wave with Mittal Patel

Bharkawada is one unique village that did not register a single hospitalization or death during the Covid second wave.

While rarely has a village escaped the onslaught of Covid's  second wave, this narration by Ramjibhai of Bharakwada astounded me. Bharkawada had 3-4 cases and the infected recovered well. How did no one require hospitalization? 

“The village youth took up the responsibility of sensitizing individuals who were hesitating to take the vaccine. We also took advantage of our village WhatsApp group to share information on the benefits of vaccination,how vaccinated people escaped with minor symptoms etc. In short, vaccination saved them from facing severe consequences of the second wave. Apart from this the ones who were still awaiting vaccination took good care of themselves.” Ramjibhai shared how they tackled the onslaught of covid’s devastating second wave. 

There are many misconceptions making waves about the side effects of the vaccine. Many told me how they ran to the fields when the vaccination team visited their homes.

‘Infact, vaccination saved us, just like the polio eradication campaign, the 2 drops that have made polio cases almost non-existent, similar has to happen with Covid-19” shares Ramjibhai. 

Bharkawada is a village with a population of 2200 to 2500 people. VSSM is undertaking tree plantation drive in the village with the assistance of Rosy Blue (India) Pvt. Ltd. The village youth has been enshrined the responsibility of undertaking plantation drive. Apart from the crematorium,  VSSM plans to plant trees on either side of the lane leading from Palanpur Highway to the village’s main entrance. This would provide the much needed green shade to those walking into the village. 

Hope like Bharkawada other villages too wake up to the needs of current times…. 

 ભરકાવાડા એક એવું ગામ જ્યાં કોરોનાની બીજી લહેરમાં એક પણ વ્યક્તિનું મૃત્યુ નથી થયું ના કોઈને હોસ્પીટલમાં દાખલ થવું પડ્યું.

ગામના રામજીભાઈની વાત સાંભળી નવાઈ લાગી.. મૂળ કોરોનાની બીજી લહેરમાં ભાગ્યેજ કોઈ ગામ #કોરોના મુક્ત રહ્યું હશે. ત્યારે #ભરકાડાવાડામાં બે પાંચ લોકોને ખાલી કોરોનાના લક્ષણો દેખાયા વળી એ લોકો ઘરે જ સાજા થયા. હોસ્પીટલના દ્વારે કોઈને જવું જ ન પડ્યું. આવું કેવી રીતે થયું?

રામજીભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'કોરોનાની રસી માટે ગામમાં યુવાનો જે લોકો રસી ન લે એને ઘરે જઈને સમજાવીએ. અમારા ગામનું વોટ્સએપ ગ્રુપ ચાલે એમાં અમે રસીકરણના ફાયદા જેમને રસી લીધી હોય તેમને કોઈ નુકશાન નથી થયું વગેરે વાતો મુકીએ એના પ્રતાપે સૌને હિંમત આવી. આ રસીકરણે એમને બચાવ્યા. આ સિવાય રસી માટે જેમનો વારો નહોતો આવ્યો તેમણે પોતાની કાળજી બરાબર કરી'

રસીને લઈને કેટલી ગેરમાન્યતા લોકોમાં ફેલાયેલી છે. ઘણા લોકોએ કહેલું કે, બેન રસી વાળા આવે એટલે અમે ખેતરમાં ભાગી જઈએ. રસી લઈએ તો મરી જઈએ.. આ થાય ફલાણું થાય... 

પણ રામજીભાઈ કહે, 'રસી લઈએ તો જીવી જવાય. જેમ #પોલીયો નાબુદ કરવા બાળકોને રસીના બે ટીપા પીવડાવાય ને એના લીધે પોલીયોના કેસ હવે ક્યાંય જોવા નથી મળતા બસ આવું કોરોનાનું છે'

ભરકાવાડા 2200 થી 2500ની વસતિવાળુ જાગૃત ગામ..અમે આ ગામના સ્મશાનમાં રોઝી બ્લુ (ઈન્ડિયા) પ્રા.લી.ની મદદથી વૃક્ષો વાવના છીએ.. ગામના નિવૃત ફોરેસ્ટ અધિકારી આ વૃક્ષોની માવજતની જવાબદારી યુવાનોની ટીમ સાથે નિભાવાના છે..અમે સ્મશાન સિવાય #પાલનપુર હાઈવેથી ગામમાં પ્રવેશવાના રસ્તેથી છેક ગામ સુધી વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું આયોજન પણ કર્યું છે. જેથી રાહદારી રસ્તો લીલોછમ બને..

ભરકાવાડાની જેમ અન્ય ગામો પણ જાગૃત થાય એમ ઈચ્છીએ..

Across the villages there is a growing noise around dwindling groundwater tables. Since last several years, VSSM endeavours to recharge these water tables through it’s participatory water conservation efforts. As a part of these efforts VSSM engages with lake deepening in Banaskantha. This year the partial lock down as a result of the pandemic and government challenges has impacted our plans. This year the target we had set for ourselves was quite high and despite of the restrictions we managed to deepen 20 lakes.  

This year we teamed up with government under its Sujalam Sufalam scheme. This partnership helped deepen few lakes one of which is Aakoli. The village lake here was deepened in partnership with the government and with the support of  our well wishers

The lake is huge and we hope it fills up till the brim. It will receive rain water but the desire is to also get it filled with Sardar Sarovar water. This surely will help recharge the surrounding regions

પાણીના તળ ખાલી થઈ રહ્યાની ફરિયાદ લગભગ દરેક ગામલોકો કરે. અમે તળ રીચાર્જ કરવાની કામગીરીના ભાગરૃપે તળાવો ગાળવાનું કાર્ય છેલ્લા કેટલાક વર્ષોથી બનાસકાંઠામાં કરીએ. આ વર્ષે કોરોનાના લીધે એ કાર્ય થોડુ મોડેથી શરૃ થયું. વળી સરકારની મંજૂરીની માથાકૂટેય ખરી.. 

તેમ છતાં તળાવો ગળાવવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. લક્ષાંક ઘણો ઊંચો હતો છતાં  20 તળાવો આ સીઝનમાં ગાળી શક્યા. 

આ વખતે સરકાર સાથે રહીને સુજલામ સુફલામ અભીયાન અંતર્ગત અમે કેટલાક તળાવો ગાળ્યા. આમાનું એક આકોલી. સરકારનો સહયોગ ઉપરાંત VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા પ્રિયજનની મદદ અને માટી ઉપાડવાનું ગામલોકોએ કર્યું. આમ ત્રણેયની ભાગીદારીથી આકોલીનું તળાવ ઊંડુ થયું.

ખુબ મોટુ તળાવ વરસાદી પાણીથી તો એ ભરાય છે પણ નર્મદાના પાણી પણ એમાં નંખાય તો આખુ વર્ષ તળાવ ભરેલું રહે ને આસપાસના વિસ્તારને ઘણો ફાયદો થાય.

The farmers of Madhya Pradesh’s Devas district took out a funeral procession of the borewell pump. The farmers were using the borewells to irrigate their farms. The borewells had decreased their dependency on rainwater while enabling them to take three crops a year.  But this act of exploiting groundwater had diminished the groundwater tables to alarmingly low levels or no water at all. The villagers were compelled to migrate for employment as agriculture was not a gainful option.

Fed up with the poor water condition, a farmer decided to revamp the way they used water. He made a ‘khet talavdi,’ pond on his farm. As the water percolated from this pond,  the groundwater levels gradually came up. The soil also became rich in moisture content, while the need to irrigate the crops reduced. The success had a far-reaching impact as it inspired other farmers to follow suit. One visioner farmer was able to inspire farmers of the entire district. The farmers saved each possible drop of rainwater through ponds on-farm, compartment bunding, deepening of lakes… and this is how they managed to bid adieu to borewells.

For the past few years, we have commenced water conservation efforts in Banaskantha. There is a growing awareness of it now. This season we could deepen 20 lakes, we had plans to do many more but the Covid lockdown deterred our plans.

The deepening of lakes is underway in Jhalmor, Khaprol, Shiya, Katav and other villages in partnership with the government’s Sujalam Sufalam Abhiyan,  the undeterred support of our well-wishers and village participation.

મધ્યપ્રદેશનો દેવાસ જિલ્લો જ્યાં ખેડૂતોએ મળીને બોરવેલની સ્મશાન યાત્રા કાઢી. વાત જાણે એમ હતી કે, દેવાસના ધરતીના પેટાળમાંથી પાણી ઉલેચવાની સગવડ બોરવેલ થકી થઈ. ખેડૂતોની આકાશી ખેતી પરની આધારીતતા ઘટી ને ખેડૂતો ત્રણ પાક લેવા માંડ્યા.

પણ અમાપ પાણી ઉલેચાવાના લીધે પેટાળ ખાલી થયા. સ્થળાંતરની સ્થિતિ નિર્માણ થઈ. આખરે એક ખેડૂતે પોતાના ખેતરમાં ખેત તલાવડી કરી. ખેત તલાવડીમાં વરસાદી પાણી ભરાયું. તલાવડીના તળમાંથી જમીનમાં પાણી પરકોલેટ(ઝમ્યુ) થયું. દિવાલોમાંથી ખેતરની આજુબાજુ પરકોલેટ થયું. જમીનમાં ભેજનું પ્રમાણ વદ્યું. આમ પાકને દા.ત.પાંચ વખત પાણી આપવું પડતું એ ઘટ્યું.. ને તળ પણ ઉપર આવ્યા. એક ખેડૂતને મળેલી સફળતાથી અન્ય ખેડૂતો પ્રેરાયા ને પછી તો આખા જિલ્લામાં જાગૃતિ આવી.

સૌએ જળસંચય માટે તળાવો, ખેતતલાવડી, ખેતરમાં કંપાર્ટમેન્ટ બંડીગ ટૂંકમાં પાણીના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવ્યું ને પછી સામૂહીક રીતે નીકળી બોરવેલની સ્મશાન યાત્રા...

#બનાસકાંઠા અમે #જળસંચય અભિયાન છેલ્લા કેટલાક વર્ષથી ઉપાડ્યું.. આજે જાગૃતિ દેખાય છે. આ સીઝનમાં અમે 20 તળાવો ગાળ્યા. આશા તો ઘણા કરવાની હતી પણ કોરોના નડ્યો.

હાલમાં #જાલમોર, #ખાપરોલ, #શિયા, #કટાવ વગેરે ગામોમાં સરકારના #સુજલામ_સુફલામ_અભીયાન અંતર્ગત VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા પ્રિયજનની આર્થિક મદદથી અને ગામની ભાગીદારીથી તળાવ ઊંડા કરવાના કાર્યો ચાલે છે. 

દરેક ગામ જાગે સ્વંય આ કાર્યો કરતા થાય ને મેધરાજા પણ મહેર કરે ને તળાવો છલકાઈ જાય એ અભીલાષા....
