“Hello, Ben I am calling from Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital. Deesa’s Virchandbhai has shared your reference with me, he asked me to call you and that you would help me!”

“Let me know how can I help you?”

“My husband’s eye has popped out, we took him to Palanpur hospital but the doctors there asked us to bring him to Ahmedabad Civil.”

A worried and anxious Manjuben from Patan called up to share her husband’s condition, from her talk we could comprehend that her husband is suffering from Mucormycosis.

This was in May, when the cases of mucormycosis were on the peak. It was difficult to procure injections to treat this deadly infection. I had asked them to remain in Civil and undertake the treatment.

All of a sudden, four days later, the thought of Manjuben crossed my mind. I called to inquire about Shantibhai’s her husband’s condition.

“He is not doing good, the condition of his eye has worsened. He is unable to open his one eye. I have vowed to not wear footwear until he recovers completely. I am afraid, what if he…”

I could sense that Manjuben was in tear at the other end, her voice choking. I asked her to have faith in God and send me her husband’s reports.

We showed the report to Dr. Dipenbhai and Dr. Sapanbhai who had already treated two of our patients. The recommended  immediate surgery.  But the issue was of injections. The doctors had 4 days’ worth of injection supply post which we would have to arrange ourselves.

We were in deep turmoil. What if we are unable to find more injections after withdrawing them from civil hospital.

For a moment I thought why did I call to inquire about his health. But then took it as an indication from Almighty. We moved Shantibhai from Civil hospital to another private hospital and an emergency operation was performed. Since Manjuben did not have enough financial resources we appealed for help to Chandrakant uncle who made some funds available. Apart from this the Raval community was also called for financial assistance. We had road blocks for injection but in the end everything fell into place.

“I want to meet you before leaving..” Manjuben called up after Shantibhai was discharged for the hospital after 21 days.

Next day the couple came to our office and showered lot of affection on us. VSSM’s Nitin had formed a bond with them as he remained by their side throughout the treatment.

“I want a picture of us together,” Manjuben posed next to me, with her hand behind my back just as friends would do!!

“Be grateful to the Almighty, and be ready to help anyone in need.” I told them as they kept thanking me for taking care of them.

Both agreed as they walked out of the office. I observed Manjuben had her footwear on, her faith us preserved…

 'હેલો બેન મુ અમદાવાદ સીવીલથી બોલું. ડીસાવાળા વિરચંદભઈએ તમારો નંબર આલ્યો. ઈમને કીધું કે બેન મદદ કરશે તે ઈમન ફોન કરજો..'

'શું મદદ જોઈએ?'

'માર જીગાન પપ્પાન ઓસ્યોમોં બળ્યું નોમય નઈ આવડતું પણ ડોળો આખો બાર આઈ જાય ઈમ હુજી ગ્યું હ્. પાલનપુર વતાડ્યું પણ ડોક્ટરે કીધુ ક અમદાવાદ સીવીલમાં લઈ જો તે..'

પાટણના મેત્રાણાના મંજુબહેને સેલફોન પર ચિંતાતુર આવજે આ કહ્યું. તેમના પતિને મ્યુકર માઈકોસીસ - કાળીફુગ થયાનો અમને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો.

મે મહિનાની આ વાત એ વખતે આ રોગના ઈન્જેકશનની ઘણી રામાયણ હતી એટલે સીવીલમાં રહીને સારવાર લેવા માટે મે એમને કહ્યું. 

એ પછી ચારેક દિવસ પછી મંજુબહેન અચનાક યાદ આવ્યા. એમના ધરવાળા શાંતીભાઈની તબીયત કેમ છે એ પુછવા મે ફોન કર્યો..

મંજુબહેને કહ્યું, 'નઈ હારુ બેન. એક ઓસ(આંખ) મોં રોગ થ્યો હ્. એ ઓખ હપ્પુજી નઈ ખુલતી. ઈમન હારુ ના થાય તો હુદી અડવોણા(ખુલ્લા) પગે રેવાની મોનતા મોની હ્. પણ મન બહુ બીક આવહ્. ઈમન કોક..'

મંજુબેનનો અવાજ ભીનો થઈ ગયો એ આગળ કશું બોલી ન શક્યા... મે એમને ભગવાન પર શ્રદ્ધા રાખવા કહ્યું ને શાંતીભાઈના રીપોર્ટ મંગાવ્યા.

કાળી ફુગના બે દર્દીઓની સારવાર અમે જેમની પાસે કરાવી હતી તે ડો. દીપેનભાઈ અને ડો.સપનભાઈને અમે રીપોર્ટ બતાવ્યા. એમણે તત્કાલ ઓપરેશન કરવા કહ્યું. પણ મુદ્દો ઈન્જેક્શનનો હતો. ડોક્ટરે કહ્યું ચાર દિવસના ઈન્જેકશન મારી પાસે છે પછીનું ગોઠવવું પડે. અમે ભારે મૂંઝવણમાં. સીવીલમાંથી એમને બહાર લઈ આવીએ પછી ઈન્જેક્શન ન મળે તો?

એક વખત તો સમાચાર પુછવા ફોન શું કામ કર્યો એવું પણ થયું પણ પછી ઈશ્વરનો જ સંકેત હોવાનું માની શાંતીભાઈને સીવીલમાંથી બહાર ખસેડ્યા ને તત્કાલ ઓપરેશન થયું. મંજુબહેન પાસે આર્થિક સગવડ નહીં અમારા આદરણીય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલને આ અંગે વાત કરીને એમણે એ માટે મદદ કરી. આ સિવાય રાવળ સમાજે પણ ઉઘરાણું કરીને મંજુબહેનને મદદ કરી. ખેર ઈન્જેકશન માટે થોડી તકલીફ થઈ પણ છેવટે બધુ ગોઠવાયું. 

હોસ્પીટલમાં 21 દિવસ રહ્યા પછી શાંતિભાઈને રજા આપી. મંજુબહેનનો ફોન આવ્યો, 'તમને મળીને જ ઓયથી હેડવું હ્'

બીજા દિવસે એ ઓફીસ પર આવ્યા ને ઘણો પ્રેમભાવ અમારા પર વર્ષાવ્યો. અમારો નિતીન શાંતીભાઈના ઓપરેશનથી લઈને હોસ્પીટલની દોડાદોડીમાં એમની સાથે રહેલો તે એ તો એમનો પોતિકો બની ગયેલો.

તમારી હારે ફોટો પડાબ્બો હ્ બેન એવું મંજુબહેને કહ્યું ને બહેનપણીની જેમ મારા ખભે હાથ મુકીને આમ સરસ ઊભા રહ્યા..બેઉ વારંવાર આભાર માનતા હતા. ત્યારે મે એમને કુદરતનો આભાર માનવા કહ્યું ને સમય આવે તમે પણ કોઈ વંચિતને મદદ કરજોનું ખાસ કહ્યું...શાંતીભાઈને મંજુબહેને હા પાડી ને એ બેઉએ વિદાય લીધી.. શાંતિભાઈની સાથે અમારા કેમ્પસમાંથી બહાર નીકળી રહેલા મંજુબહેનના પગ અડવાણા હતા. એમની તેમના શ્રદ્ધા ફળી હતી...

Banaskantha’s Bukoli village. As evident in the video clip, it’s cemetery filled with gando baval/the mad tree.

“Ben, when someone dies in the village it becomes difficult for all to enter the cemetery. The mad tree is a huge menace!” Sarpanch had shared.

The Sarpanch wanted to plant 10,000 trees in the village and had mentioned to remain by our side even if he did not hold the position of village head.

The community and Panchayat cleaned the cemetery grounds and VSSM committed to plant trees that were native to the region and helped bring rains. The earth of Banaskantha is filled with the mad tree, it helped solve the issue of fodder and fuel but never allowed native trees to flourish in the surrounding. If water facility is made available we plan to plant and raise tall native trees.

We have launched this massive campaign and aim to plant and raise 1 lac trees this year.

May you too choose to invoke Tree God in your village. It definitely will herald good times….

બનાસકાંઠાનું બુકોલીગામ

વીડિયોમાં દેખાય એ સ્મશાન ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલું. સરપંચે કહ્યું, બેન ગામમાં કોઈ ગુજરી જાય તો બધા ડાઘુઓ એક સાથે સ્મશાનમાં જઈ ન શકે એવો ગાંડો બાવળ આ સ્મશાનમાં. 

સરપંચની ભાવના ગામમાં દસ હજાર વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાની. એમણે કહ્યું હું સરપંચ ન હોવું તો પણ આ લક્ષાંકને પૂર્ણ કરવા હું તમારી સાથે... 

આવું સ્મશાન પંચાયત અને ગામે સાથે મળીને સાફ કર્યું ને એમાં વરસાદ લાવવા જવાબદાર વૃક્ષો vssm વાવશે અને ઉછેરશે..

બનાસકાંઠામાં કેટલાય એકર જમીન ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલી પડી છે. પાણી નહોતા ત્યારે ગાંડો બાવળ ઠીક પણ પાણીની સગવડ હોય ત્યાં એની જગ્યાએ ઊંચાઈવાળા વૃક્ષો વાવીએ તો એ વરસાદ લાવવામાં પણ ઉપયોગી થશે... 

અમે અભીયાન ઉપાડ્યું છે. આ વર્ષે 1 લાખથી વધુ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા છે.. 

તમે પણ તમારા ગામમાં વૃક્ષદેવની સ્થાપના કરો... એ ગામની સુખાકારી વધારશે એ નક્કી...

Recently, at a specially organised event we planted trees in Bharkawada village. A leading daily covered the event in a very meaningful way and rightfully named it ‘Shwasropan’- sowing breathes. Trees are the most giving souls, their generosity is so visible in our daily existence.

Benap is a remote village in the interior of Banaskantha. The landscape is filled with gando baval. VSSM in partnership of the community has decided to plant trees over 10 acres of village wasteland. But the land had to be cleared first, and clearing these trees is an expensive affair. We spoke to District Collector Shri Anandbhai, who agreed to extend support. Another compassionate and enthusiastic officer is Suigaum TDO Kajalben. Anandbhai and Kajalben sanctioned clearing this wasteland of wild babool trees under the MNREGA program. VSSM with support from its dear Chandrakant Uncle and Indira Auntie will build a fence, install drip irrigation pipelines and water tank. The village Panchayat will also share the cost of fencing.

Benap sarpanch Paragbhai is a noble soul, someone who works for the prosperity of the village and its inhabitants.

Once the wilderness is cleared we plan to plant native trees that will help bring rain to the region.

This year many villages have agreed for tree plantation program. Hopefully, entire Banaskantha will show such commitment.

 અમે ભરકાવાડામાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા સંદર્ભે કાર્યક્રમ કર્યો. દિવ્યભાસ્કરે એનું સરસ કવરેજ કર્યું ને નામ આપ્યું શ્વાસરોપણ...

ખરે જ વૃક્ષો આપણને કેટલું બધુ આપે વળી પાછું આપે એ બધુયે દેખાય પણ ખરુ....

#બનાસકાંઠાનું #બેણપ અંતરિયાળ ગામ. બાવળોનું પ્રમાણ પણ ઘણું. અહીંયા લગભગ 10 એકર જમીનમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનું VSSMએ ગામ સાથે રહીને નક્કી કર્યું.

પણ જમીન આખી બાવળથી ભરેલી. સફાઈ કામ પુષ્કળ કરવું પડે ને એ માટે ખર્ચ ઘણો થાય. કલેક્ટર શ્રી આનંદભાઈ સાથે આ બાબતે વાત થઈ ને એમણે કહ્યું, અમે સાથે રહીશું. તાલુકા વિકાસ અધિકારી તરીકે સૂઈગામમાં કાજલબેન. એમનો ઉત્સાહ તો આવા કાર્યોમાં જબરજસ્ત.. આમ આનંદભાઈ અને કાજલબેન બેઉની સંવેદનાના લીધે મનરેગા યોજનામાં જમીનની સફાઈ અને ખાડા કરાવવાનું કામ મંજૂર થયું. 

જમીન ફરતે તારની વાડ, પાણીની ટાંકી, ડ્રીપની ગોઠવણ કરવાનું અમે અમારા પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા (અંકલ) ને ઈન્દીરા આંટીની મદદથી કરીશું. વાડ કરવામાં પંચાયત પણ અડધી મદદ કરશે..

 A pledge to make Banaskantha green and water sufficient…

A couple of years ago, we launched a campaign to make Banaskantha green and water sufficient. This year we aim to plant and raise 1.5 lac trees from which 1.25 are already planted.

While selecting the villages for our tree plantation campaign, the primary consideration is the community’s outlook towards trees. During July and August this year, we plan to accomplish the plantation of ‘Bal-Taru’ in 35 villages. The auspicious beginnings of this happened from Vadgaum’s Bharkawada village. 2500 saplings were planted by the community and VSSM team around the village cemetery. The support from Rosy Blue (India) will help us raise these into trees. 

 The saplings were provided by the Forest Department free of cost. VSSM plans to support Virksha Mitra for three years. It would be the responsibility of the Vriksha Mitra and the community to ensure that the saplings are nurtured and raised well, VSSM will support the remuneration to Vriksha Mitra.

During one of the plenary meetings, we had proposed a plantation of trees from one end to another. “Can we plant 500 more trees?” we had inquired. The youth had agreed to plan for the same. The trees on both the side of the lane required tree-guards, very soon donors began to pitch in and we had sponsors for 250 tree guards. VSSM will support if needed as we intend to develop the village as a model for others to draw inspiration from.

There was also a discussion on recharging the well, VSSM supported 11 farmers for the same. It is a delight to see the community gearing up for environment and water conservation.

The 2500 Bal-Taru needed to be honoured and worshipped. Couples from the village volunteered and came forward to worship and plant these trees at the village cemetery.

Since there is a lot of mutual respect and a sense of brotherhood in the village, couples from all the communities including Dalits performed pooja and planted the saplings. 

Once the plantation event got over, the young team of volunteers began bringing saplings and tree-guards for the plantation of boulevard trees. It was such a heart-warming scene… to watch them work so responsibly.

Banaskantha is a rain-starved region, if we turn the land green the rain gods would send their blessings. If the communities who call this region their home begin to take proactive measures the region will become green and productive. There would be no reason for the rains to keep away from the region….

હરીયાળુ બનાસકાંઠા પ્રકલ્પ....

વૃક્ષ ઉછેર અભીયાન અમે બનાસકાંઠામાં ઉપાડ્યું... આ વર્ષે દોઢ લાખ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનો લક્ષાંક અમે રાખ્યો જેમાંથી 1.25 ઉપર તો પહોંચી ગયા...

વૃક્ષઉછેર માટે ગામોની પસંદગી ગામોની વૃક્ષો માટે મમતા કેટલી એને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને કરીએ..જુલાઈ ઓગષ્ટ - 2021માં કુલ 35 ગામોમાં બાલતરુની વાવણી ને એના ઉછેરનું કાર્ય કરવાનું.. જેનો શુભારંભ વડગામના ભરકાવાડાગામથી કર્યો. ભરકાવાડાના સ્મશાનમાં 2500 વૃક્ષ ગ્રામજનો અને VSSMની ભાગીદારીથી ઉછરશે. 

જંગલ વિભાગે પણ આ માટે વૃક્ષો વિનામુલ્યે આપ્યા. અમે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા પગારદાર માણસ તેમજ વૃક્ષો માટે જરૃરી સગવડ- ખર્ચ કરવાનું ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી કરીશું.

વૃક્ષ ઉછેર સંદર્ભે ગામલોકો સાથે ત્રણેકવાર બેઠક થઈ. ગામનો ઉત્સાહ જોઈને ગામની હદ શરૃ થાય ત્યાંથી લઈને હદ પૂર્ણ થાય ત્યાં સુધી આપણે બીજા 500 વૃક્ષો ન વાવી શકીએ? એવું પુછેલું.જવાબમાં સૌએ આયોજન કરીએ બેન એવું કહેલું. પણ રસ્તામાં વવાતા વૃક્ષોના સંરક્ષણ માટે પાંજરુ જોઈને તે એક પછી એક દાતા ઊભા થવા માંડ્યા. જોત જોતામાં લગભગ 250 ઉપર પાંજરાના દાતા મળી ગયા. ખૂટતાં VSSM આપશે પણ આ કાર્ય સફળતા પૂર્વક કરવું છે જેથી બીજા ગામના લોકોને પણ પ્રેરણા મળે.. 

આમાં વચમાં વળી કૂવા રીચાર્જની વાત આવી એમાં પણ ગામના 11 ખેડૂતોને મદદ કરવાનું અમે કર્યું. આમ પ્રકૃતિ- પર્યાવરણના કાર્યો માટે લોકો સજ્જ થયા..

સ્મશાનમાં 2500 બાલતરુની પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરવાની હતી. એનું પૂજન પણ થવું જોઈએ.. ગામના દંપતી સ્વંમ ભૂ પૂજન માટે આવ્યા ને સંપૂર્ણ ભાવ સાથે ગામના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વવાયા.

ગામનો સંપ ખુબ સરસ નાતજાતના ભેદ વગર વૃક્ષ પૂજનમાં વાલ્મીકી સમાજથી લઈને ગામના સૌ કોઈ જોડાયા અને પૂર્ણ ભાવથી પૂજન કર્યું.. 

કાર્યક્રમ પત્યા પછી ગામના યુવાનોની ટીમ પાછી રસ્તાની બે બાજુ વૃક્ષો વાવવા ને પાંજરા લગાવવામાં લાગી.. 

કેવું રૃડુ વાતાવરણ હતું.

બનાસકાંઠામાં વરસાદ ઓછો પડે.. વૃક્ષો વરસાદ લાવવા માટે જવાબદાર એટલે વૃક્ષ ઉછેરનું અભીયાન અમે આરંભ્યું. લોકો સ્વંયભૂ આ કાર્ય કરતા થઈ જાય તો આપણી ધરતીને હરિયાળી થતી કોઈ રોકી નહીં શકે.. દરેક ગામ વૃક્ષ ઉછેર માટે કટીબદ્ધ થાય તો આખો પ્રદેશ લીલોછમ થઈ જાય ને પછી વરસાદને તો આવવું જ પડે....

It was a dream come true for the farmers of the village who had been waiting for years to witness their lake filled with water.

I don’t think it needs an introduction.  

The waters of Narmada reached the lake of Banaskantha’s Dama, where the villagers were eager for its arrival. Last year, VSSM had deepened the lake with the support from Jewelex Foundation and community participation. 

The lake belongs to Dama but shares its boundary with Dhedhal. Hence, Dama’s Govakaka and Dhedhal’s Sarpanch Shri Bharatbhai had asked me to come to share the joy when water arrives in the lake... The lake and the joy in people’s hearts were overflowing when I reached the village to share their happiness. 

It was a dream come true for the farmers of the village who had been waiting for years to witness their lake filled with water. VSSM has also deepened the lake well, to ensure that the lake holds enough water and penetrates well to recharge the groundwater tables. 

The community at Dama have ushered water into their village with the utmost respect. We hope for each village to wake up to the need of conserving each drop of water.

Also hoping for the water to seep in and make the underground water table rich with water just like the lakes are…

પાણી..

વ્યાખ્યા આપવાની જરૃર છે?

માર ખ્યાલથી નહીં.

પાણીની કાગડ઼ોળે રાહ જોતા #બનાસકાંઠાના દામાની સીમના #તળાવમાં નર્મદાના નીર આવ્યા. આ તળાવ અમે આ વર્ષે જવેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશન અને ગામલોકોની ભાગીદારીથી ગાળેલું. તે ગામના ગોવાકાકા ને ઢેઢાલના સરપંચ શ્રી ભરતભાઈએ  (મૂળ તળાવ દામાનું કહેવાય પણ સીમ ઢેઢાલનીયે લાગે) તળાવમાં નીર આવે તો બેન પોણી વધાવવા આવવું પડશે એવું કીધેલું.. તે એ આગ્રહને લીધે ખાસ જવાનું થયું. 

ગામના સૌનો હરખ પાણી ભરાયા એને લઈને ગજબનો..

વર્ષોથી તળાવ છલોછલ ભરાય એ સ્વપ્ન તળાવ આસપાસના ખેડૂતો જોતા એ આખરે સાકાર થયું..  અમે તળાવને ઘણું ઊંડું કર્યું છે જેથી જમીનમાં મહત્તમ પાણી ઉતરે ને તળ રીચાર્જ થાય...  

નીર વધાવવાનો કાર્યક્રમ ઉત્તમ થયો.. 

લોકો પાણીનું મહત્વ સમજતા થયા છે એનો રાજીપો છે.. દરેક ગામ જાગૃત થાય ને વરસાદી પાણીના ટીપે ટીપાને બચાવે એવી અપેક્ષા....

દામા તેમજ ઢેઢાલના લોકો તો પાણીદાર છે હવે એમના ગામના અને સીમના તળ પાણીદાર બને એવી રહેમ નજર માટે કુદરતે પ્રાર્થના...

 “Thank you, Didi, these ration kits you send have been a great relief. Ever since I injured my back and leg in a major accident, I cannot walk long distance nor either can I engage in laborious work.”

Since Shakina was speaking in Hindi I had to ask her, “where is your native village?”

“We are from UP, but have made Gujarat our home. We have been staying here for years."

“And your husband?”

“He is no more!”

“Children?”

“I don’t have any!”

“How are you related to her?” I asked about a lady in a white salwar kurta standing near her.

“She is my elder sister, her husband is dead and she too never had children,” Shakinaben replied.

“How did you manage food before?”

“I cannot walk more, so Mumtaz would go and beg for both of us.”

The living condition of both these sisters was pathetic. They did not have a ration card, VSSM’s Maheshbhai helped them acquire one. They both are eligible to benefit under the widow-pension scheme but that hasn’t happened so far.

After the sisters were forced to vacate the space they had occupied for their shanty in Juna-Deesa we asked them to make a shelter in L P Savani Nagar.

With the support from its well-wishing donors, VSSM has been instrumental in providing ration kits to 165 destitute individuals under its Maavjat program.

Each time we see someone surviving under such abject poverty a prayer for everyone’s well-being escapes our heart!!

'આભાર દીદી.. આપ કે માધ્યમ સે રાશન મીલને સે બડી રાહત હો ગઈ. એક બડે અકસ્માતન મે મેરી કમર ઔર પાંવ મે કાફી ઈજા હુઈ મૈ જ્યાદા ચલ નહીં શકતી. ભારી કામ ભી નહીં હોતા..'

હીન્દીમાં વાત કરી રહેલા શકીનાબેનને મે તમે ક્યાંના વતની છો એ પુછ્યું,

'હમ તો યુપી સે હૈ.. પર કાફી સાલો સે ગુજરાત મે હૈ.. અબ તો યહા કે હી હો ગયે..'.

'આપ કે પતિ?'

'વો તો કબ કે ગુજર ચુકે.. '

'બચ્ચે?'

'નહીં હૈ...'

એમની બાજુમાં ઊભેલા સફેદ સલવાર કુરતો પહેરેલા મુમતાઝબેન સામે જોઈને, 'યે આપ કે ક્યા?'

મને વચમાં અટકાવીને શકીનાબહેને કહ્યું, 'વો મેરી બડી બહેન હૈ.. ઉસકા શૌહોર ભી નહીં હૈ. બચ્ચે ઉસકો ભી કભી નહીં હુએ..'

'પહેલે ખાના પીના કહાં સે કરતે થે?'

'મૈ જ્યાદા ચલ નહીં શકતી પર મુમતાઝ ધીરે ધીરે ચલકે કુછ ના કુછ માંગ લાતી...'

બેઉની સ્થિતિ ભયંકર. 

રાશનકાર્ડ નહોતું. જે અમારા કાર્યકર મહેશે કરાવ્યું. બાકી વિધવા અને વૃદ્ધ પેન્શન બેયના આ હકદાર પણ એ મળતું નથી..

જુના ડીસામાં જ્યાં છાપરુ વાળીને રહેતા આ બેઉને તે જગ્યા ખાલી કરાવતા આપણે એમને એલ.પી. સવાણી નગરમાં વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારો રહે ત્યાં છાપરુ નંખાવ્યું. 

VSSMના માવજત કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત દર મહિને 165 વ્યક્તિઓને સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા પ્રિયજનોની મદદથી રાશન આપવાનું કરીએ..

પણ આવી સ્થિતિમાં માણસોને જોઈએ ત્યારે જીવ બળી જાય.. ને પ્રાર્થના તો આવું દુઃખ કોઈનેય ન આપની તો થાય જ...

“Why thank them, it is the duty of authorities and government to work for the welfare of its subjects?” someone who read my post thanking the authorities for their support in helping redress the pending issues nomadic communities had left a comment.

“We may be want to skimp on money,  but why cut back on praising some good deeds? If each officer of this country performs her/his duty well,  the issues of this country would disappear. But there is an ‘if’ involved here hence,  when we come across officers who have been performing their duties with honesty and diligence it is our responsibility to applaud them.” I had responded.

One such officer is the extremely compassionate Surendranagar District Collector Shri K. Rajesh.

The obsolete occupations of nomads have required them to settle down in one place. These communities make settlements over government wastelands or any unoccupied plots. They would continue to live in the place until they are forced to vacate it and move out. Across many districts of Gujarat, VSSM has been striving to ensure that these families receive residential plots from the government so that they are not forced to vacate the space. The best results of these efforts have been achieved in Surendranagar district under the leadership of its Collector Shri K. Rajesh. If you ever get a chance to witness his work you will understand that he never gives up, he is on a relentless mission to help others. Very recently he allotted plots to 65 families.

VSSM team also perseveres hard to identify and ensure that help reaches those in need. At Surendranagar we have Harshad who never gives up and follows up the case right from filling up the form to the construction of the house.

Attainment of fundamental Human Rights is at the base of all the activities VSSM does, the other initiatives are built upon once the individuals attain the documents of their existence. The well-wishers who have supported the Human Rights initiatives of ours are unique as they have understood the gravity of these intangible efforts. Shri Piyushbhai of Jewelex Foundation never misses to send in his annual support, US-based Shri Kiritbhai Shah also acknowledged the necessity of these efforts and supports them, respected Dakshaben Shah and other well-wishers too have supported us with Human Rights efforts that have enabled thousands of individuals receive Ration Cards, Voter ID cards, a house… and benefits of government schemes for the welfare of poor.

We will always be grateful for the trust and support you have put in us.

 વિચરતી જાતિઓના કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરનાર અધિકારીની વાત અહીંયા લખુ તે એ વાંચીને એક વાચકે કહ્યું, 

'સરકાર કે અધિકારીની ફરજ છે આ બધા કાર્યો કરવાની એમાં આભાર શું કામ માનવાનો?'

મે એમને કહ્યું, 'આપણે ખીસ્સામાંથી પૈસા આપવામાં કંજુસાઈ દાખવીએ એ સમજી શકાય પણ શાબ્દીક નવાજમાં કંજુસાઈ કેમ? વળી, દેશના દરેક અધિકારી તેમનું કર્તવ્ય બરાબર નિભાવે તો દેશમાં જે તકલીફો અત્યારે દેખાય છે એ રહે જ નહીં. પણ સવાલ એ ફરજ નિભાવવાનો છે..આવામાં ફરજ નિભાવે તેને પોંખવા જોઈએ..'

આવા કેટલાક અધિકારીમાંના #સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લાના કલેક્ટર કે રાજેશ એક. વંચિતોના કાર્યો માટે એમને ભારે અનુકંપા.વિચરતી જાતિઓના વિચરણનો હવે મતલબ નહોતો. મૂળ કામ ધંધા પડી ભાંગેલા એટલે. આવા પરિવારો જ્યાં જગ્યા મળી ત્યાં અસ્થાયી પડાવો નાખીને રહે. આ બધાને પોતાની જગ્યા મળે જ્યાંથી કોઈ એમને કાઢી ન મૂકે તે માટે અમે કોશીશ કરીએ. પણ એ કોશીશનું સૌથી સારુ પરિણામ સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં  શ્રી કે.રાજેશ થકી મળ્યું..વળી સતકાર્યોમાં એમણે પોરો નથી ખાધો.. તાજેતરમાં એમણે બીજા 65 પરિવારોને પ્લોટ આપ્યા. આ બધા પરિવારો હવે ઘરવાળા થશે.

આવા વંચિતોને શોધવાનું કાર્ય અમારી ટીમ કરે. સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં અમારો હર્ષદ સક્રિય. અરજી કરવાથી લઈને સતત ફોલોઅપ કરવાનું એ બરાબર કરે.

VSSMનું વિચરતી જાતિઓને અધિકાર અપાવવાનું કાર્ય પાયાનું. હું હંમેશાં કહુ સંસ્થાની બાકીની સેવાકીય પ્રવૃતિની શરૃઆત જ આ કાર્યથી થાય. આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરનાર વ્યક્તિઓ પણ અનૂઠા.. જવેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશનના અમારા પિયુષભાઈ દર વર્ષે આ કાર્યો માટે આર્થિક સહયોગ કરે. તો અમેરીકામાં રહેતા આદરણીય કિરીટભાઈ શાહ પણ આ બહુ જરૃરી કાર્ય કહીને સહયોગ કરે એ સિવાય આદરણીય દક્ષાબહેન શાહ ને અન્ય પ્રિયજનોનો સહયોગ પણ ખરો.. જેના લીધે હજારો લોકોને રાશનકાર્ડ, મતદારકાર્ડ, ઘર ટૂંકમાં સરકારની કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાઓની મદદ મેળવવાના પુરાવા પુરા પાડવાનું અમે કરી શક્યા.

આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા ભાવ..

ને કલેક્ટર શ્રી કે રાજેશ પાસે કુદરત હંમેશાં આવા સુંદર કાર્યો કરાવે તેવી અભીલાષા....

Tejal with her three younger sisters

 “Didi, Tejal from Ghoghmba in Panchmahal is just 14 years old but has had to take up the role of a mother for her three younger sisters.” I was astonished with VSSM’s Vinodbhai shared this condition. Tejal lost her father when she was 12 and her mother passed away just 2 months back. Relatives from both the side of parents had abandoned them after the death of each parent.

The father worked as brick kiln labour and the family has a small crumbling place they call home, it is a structure that is falling apart with walls coming down it is not a place the girls would feel safe.

Tejal works as domestic help in bungalows near her house, the income helps her support her three sisters.  The girls are entitled to receive support from the government welfare scheme for orphaned children but obviously, they wouldn’t be aware of it.

As soon as Vinod learnt about these girls,  he sent them VSSM’s ration kit for destitute individuals and also wrote about them on Twitter. Jai Goswami spread it forward as a result official from the Department of Social Welfare paid a visit, filled up the form to enable her to receive monetary benefits under the  ‘Palak Mata-Pita Yojna’.

Well, we will keep sending her ration kit under the Maavjat program and repair the house too. “Once the hostel is operational all you sisters come here to study.” I had asked Tejal during one of our telephonic conversations.

“I do not wish to study, but take my younger sisters to the hostel and make them officers.” Tejal had replied.

Tejal is a little girl, I have yet to go and see her at Ghoghamba. I will bring her to the hostel once they start functioning.

We are providing ration to 165 destitute elderly to which these kids also have been included.

We are grateful for the moral and financial support of VSSM’s well-wishing dear ones that have enabled us to reach the poorest.

એવું અમારા કાર્યકર વિનોદે કહ્યું ત્યારે ભારે આશ્ચર્ય થયું.તેજલ 12 વર્ષની હતી ત્યારે મા ગુજરી ગઈ ને બે મહિના પહેલાં પિતા..પણ મા ગયા પછી માતૃપક્ષે સાથ છોડ્યો ને પિતા ગયા પછી પિતૃપક્ષે..

બાપા ઈંટો પાડવાનું કામ કરતા. તેમની પાસે નાનકડુ ઘર ખરુ. એટલે દીકરીઓ સાવ છત વગરની ન થઈ.  જો કે એ રહે એને ઘર કહેવું કે કેમ એ પ્રશ્ન.. એક બાજુની દિવાલ તુટી ગઈ છે આમ તદન અસુરક્ષીત જગ્યા....

તેજલ બંગલામાં કામ કરવા જાય ને ત્રણે બહેનોનું પુરુ કરે.. 

પાલક માતા પિતા અંતર્ગત સહાય મળે પણ એ નાનકીને આ બધો ખ્યાલ નહીં...

વિનોદના ધ્યાને આ વાત આવી અમે તત્કાલ રાશન તો આપ્યું.. પણ સાથે સરકારની મદદ મળે તે માટે ટ્વીટર પર લખ્યું. જય ગૌસ્વામી જેવા પ્રિયજનોએ એ વાતને આગળ વધારી ને સમાજ સુરક્ષા વિભાગના અધિકારી આજે મુલાકાતે આવ્યા.(ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે) તેમણે ફોર્મ ભરાવ્યું. હવે પાલક માતાપિતા સહાય અંતર્ગત તેમને આર્થિક મદદ મળશે. 

ખેર અમે દર મહિને માવજત કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત રાશન તો અમે આપીશું. ઘર પણ રીપેર કરી આપીશું. 'અમારી હોસ્ટેલ શરૃ થાય પછી ચારેય બહેનો હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણવા આવી જજો' એવું મે ફોન પર કહ્યું તો તેજલે કહ્યું, 'મારે હવે નથી ભણવું પણ મારી બે નાની બહેનોને હોસ્ટેલમાં લઈ જજો એમને અધિકારી બનાવજો...'

તેજલ નાનકી છે. હજુ એને મળવા ઘોઘંબા જવાનું બાકી છે. મળીશ ને હોસ્ટેલ શરૃ થશે એટલે એનેય ભણવા લઈ આવીશું...

દર મહિને 165 માવતરોને રાશન આપીએ હવે એમાં આવા ભૂલકાં પણ ઉમેરાયા.. 

VSSMના કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરનાર પ્રિયજનો આવા કાર્યો માટે બળ ને આર્થિક ટેકો કરે એ સૌનો આભાર...

પણ આવું દુઃખ કોઈનેય ન આપની ભગવાનને પ્રાર્થના...

Officers visited the Orphaned children 

I had recently shared a story about 14 years old Tejal who had upon her the responsibility of caring for her three younger sisters. The sisters had been recently orphaned with death of their mother.

As soon as VSSM learnt about their condition it has been providing monthly ration kit to these girls and also wrote for government assistance.

District Social Defence Officer Shri J. H. Lakhara and his team of Shri Roshan Choduhry, Shri Vinodbhai Dindor, Shri Rameshbhai Choudhry, Shri Jignesh Panchal, Shri Pushpendra Solanki visited the girls and filled up their forms. They also provided funds from their pockets for a tarpaulin to cover the roof over their head. And within a week they ensured each girls receives Rs. 4000, so a total of Rs. 16000 was deposited into their account.

Thanks to the officers for their concern and to Chief Minister and government for the their concern towards these children in need for protection.

ઘોઘંબામાં રહેતી 14 જ વર્ષની નાનકી તેજલ પોતાની સાથે એની ત્રણ બહેનોને સાચવે. મા- બાપની છત્રછાયા આ ચારેય ગુમાવેલી. 

આ અંગે થોડા દિવસ પહેલાં અહીંયા લખેલું

અમે આ દીકરીઓને દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. સાથે સરકાર મદદ કરે એમ પણ લખેલું. જેને ધ્યાને લઈને જિલ્લા સમાજ સુરક્ષા અધિકારી શ્રી જે.એચ લખારા, તેમજ તેમની ટીમના શ્રો રોશન ચૌધરી, શ્રી વિનોદભાઈ ડીંડોર, શ્રી રમેશભાઈ ચૌધરી, શ્રી જીગ્નેશ પંચાલ, શ્રી પુષ્પેન્દ્ર સોલંકીએ દિકરીઓની મુલાકાત લીધી ને મદદ માટેનું ફોર્મ ભર્યું.. સાથે ઘર પર ઢાંકવા તત્કાલ મીણિયાની વ્યવસ્થા સ્વખર્ચે કરી. 

વળી અઠવાડિયામાં જ એમણે પ્રત્યેક દિકરીઓના ખાતામાં 4000 લેખે 16,000 જમા કરાવ્યા. 

આટલું ત્વરાથી સરકારી કામ થાય તેનો રાજીપો તો વ્યકત કરવો જ પડે.. 

આભાર અધિકારીગણનો અને આવા બાળકોની ચિંતા કરનાર આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી તેમજ સરકારનો.. 

આ દિકરીઓ સુધી પહોંચવામાં નિમિત્ત બન્યા પ્રવિણભાઈ રાવળ તેમજ અમારા કાર્યકર વિનોદ તો હવે આ દિકરીઓના કાકા બની ગયા છે. કોઈ કાંઈ પણ કહે કે પુછે તો દીકરીઓ કહે, કાકાને પુછીને કહીશું.. 

ચાલો નવા સંબંધો બન્યાનો રાજીપો... એમની સુરક્ષા બાબતે ઘણાએ ચિંતા સેવી પણ અમે કોશીશ કરીશું ધ્યાન રાખવા. ને અમારી હોસ્ટેલ શરૃ થતા જ અહીંયા લઈ આવીશું એ નક્કી...

‘You did it, that too in such a short period!!”  Dhedhal’s Govakaka tells us.

VSSM and Dhedhal village share an old friendship. The proactiveness of Sarpanch Bharatbhai enabled us to deepen a lake, plant and raise 3000 trees around the village cemetery. Govakaka had asked us to deepen the lakes of  Dhedhal and Dama villages. VSSM accomplished these tasks with the support of Jewelex Foundation. A jubilant Govakaka dropped in to meet us while we were at the village to monitor the accomplished tasks. 

The community lake at the Dama village has turned into a shallow pit, to be visible only on the village map. As it has happened with all villages, as we began exploring groundwater the value of lakes diminished over the decades. How long can the groundwaters feed our greed? The waters depleted to as low as 1100 feet, there were no systems to recharge the groundwater while there were encroachments into the lake. Ultimately, the villagers worked together to remove the encroachments and we deepened the lake. The lake was linked with the Narmada pipeline hence, we expect the groundwater levels to rise in the coming few years.

Once we had planned for water we moved to tree plantation. Amratbhai from the village assured all possible support to make space to enable us to carry out the plantation drive. We will be planting and raising 3000 trees in Dama with support from GACL. Amratbhai, Dama’s Sarpanch and all friends are committed to supporting the environmental conservation efforts.

We hope other villages too rise to the occasion and support environmental conservation efforts in their respective villages.

ઢેઢાલના ગોવાકાકાએ કહ્યું, 'તમે કરી બતાવ્યું એય ટૂંકા સમયમાં જ..'

#ઢેઢાલ સાથે નાતો થોડો જૂનો. ત્યાં અમે તળાવ ગાળેલું ને ગામના સ્મશાનમાં ને સ્મશાન બહાર O2h ની મદદથી 3000થી વધુ વૃક્ષો ઉછેર્યા. સરપંચ ભરતભાઈએ એ માટે ખુબ મદદ કરી. 

ઢેઢાલ અને દામાની સીમનું તળાવ ગાળવા ગોવાકાકાએ અમને કહ્યું. ને અમે એ કાર્ય જવેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશનની મદદથી પૂર્ણ કર્યું. એટલે હરખે ગોવાકાકાએ તળાવ જોવા ગઈ એ વેળા આ કહ્યું. 

દામાનું સીમ તળાવ ચોપડે ખરુ પણ ધીમે ધીમે એ ખાબોચિયા જેવું થઈ ગયેલું. મૂળ બોરવેલથી સિંચાઈ શરૃ થતા તળાવોનું મહાત્મય ઘટ્યું.. પણ બોરવેલેય ક્યાં સુધી પાણી આપ્યા કરે.. આખરે તળ પહોંચ્યા 1100 ફૂટથી વધુ ઊંડા તળ સતત રીચાર્જ થવા જોઈએ.. પણ એ ન થયું અને તળાવમાં દબાણ થયું. 

આખરે ગામના સૌએ મળીને દબાણ ખાલી કરાવ્યું ને તળાવ ગળાયું. નર્મદાની પાઈપલાઈન સાથે તળાવ લીંક એટલે આગળના ત્રણ ચાર વર્ષમાં આ વિસ્તારમાં જબરજસ્ત ફરક પડવાનો એ નક્કી...

પાણીનું આયોજન તો થયું હવે વાત હતી વૃક્ષ ઉછેરની..ગામના અમરતભાઈએ પંચાયતની જમીનમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા શક્ય તમામ મદદની ખાત્રી આપી. દામામાં આ વર્ષે GACLની મદદથી 3000 થી વધુ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરીશું. અમરતભાઈ, દામાના સરપંચ ને અન્ય મિત્રો વૃક્ષ ઉછેર માટે શક્ય તમામ સહયોગ કરવા કટીબદ્ધ..

આશા રાખીએ દરેક ગામ પાણી અને પ્રર્યાવરણની ચિંતા સેવે અને જાગે...
