 No food on the plate or larder when children are crying of hunger is heart-wrenching for any parent.

At the age when it is time to be at peace, retire and relax, Rajkot’s  Pooni Maa and Valabha were buried under the responsibility of raising their grandchildren after the death of their son and daughter-in-law walking away from the children.

They were physically incapable of working are manual labourers. Hence, Pooni Maa would take her grandchildren to pick scrap or beg. “Why did God choose this pain for us??’ was the constant question in their mind.

While there is Ramankaka who constantly worries for her mentally challenged daughter. His physical condition is not favourable and so is Jivat maa’s. Both are frail and weak to work and earn for themselves. The couple waits for their neighbour Keshabapa to finish meals so that the leftovers can reach them.

The living conditions of such destitute elderlies is pathetic, to say the least.

We have been working with the needy and marginalized for years, but this section of the society never caught our attention. Maybe because we thought their needs could be met through the programs we have for the needy. However, the destitute elderly have special needs. It was obvious we had to plan some special remedial program for them. We decided to care and nurture the destitute elderly who needed support.  We launched Maavtar, elderly care and support program with one elderly. Today we support 124 of which 16 elderly eat at one kitchen.

It is a work that brings solace to the soul and people it supports.

Again, as we always say VSSM has just been a medium, it is the support you provide that enables us to reach people in need. It is not difficult at all  Manishabahen Rajput, Nishabahen Bhutani, Prajakta Bhave,  Darshita, Heena Desai…have adopted our elderly parents for life.

And well-wishing friends Bhavnabahen Mehta, Shri Rashmikant Shah, Kusumbahen Shah, Lions Club of Shahibaugh. Estate of Bomi Sohrabji Bulsara, Madhvi Mehta, Amolibahen Shah, Maheshbhai Dave… have been consistently supporting us with Maavtar.

It is hard to mention all whose contribution has enabled us to continue with our work, and we are grateful for their support. It is your generosity that has helped us continue our work. May Almighty provide you with the opportunities to continue your noble deeds.

ભૂખ લાગી હોય પણ પાસે ખાવા ના હોય એ સ્થિતિ બહુ કપરી છે..રાજકોટમાં પૂનીમા ને વાલાભાને હરી ભજવાના સમયે પૌત્રપુત્રીને ઉછેરવાની જવબાદારી આવી. દીકરો હરી નાની ઉંમરે બાળકોને અને માવતરોને નોંધારા મુકીને ભગવાનના ઘરે પહોંચી ગયો ને વહુને પિયરીયા તેડી ગયા..મજુરી કરવા તો શું જવાય. નાના ભૂલકાં ક્યાંક પ્લાસ્કીટક વિણવા ને પુની માં ભીખ માંગવા જાય. પણ પાછલી અવસ્થાએ આ પીડા સીદ આપી એવું એમને થાય.

તો રમણકાકાને પોતાના કરતાં પોતાની માનસીક અસ્થિર દીકરીની ચિંતા વધારે. વળી એમના પણ હાથપગ કામ ન કરે. જીવત માથી તો સીધુ ચલાય પણ નહીં. તો કેશાબાપા જેવા પડોશીઓના ત્યાં ઝટ બપોરો ને સાંજનું વાળુ પાણી પતે તેની રાહ જુએ. મૂળ તો જમ્યા પછી વધે તો એમને મળે માટે..કેવી કપરી સ્થિતિમાં ઘડપણ જીવવાનું..

વર્ષોથી સમાજ કાર્યો સાથે સંકળાયેલી પણ ક્યારેય આ દિશામાં ધ્યાન નહોતું ગયું. પણ અચાનક કુદરતે ધ્યાન દોર્યું ને પછી આવા માવતરોને સાચવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.. એક માવતરથી શરૃ કરેલું આ કાર્ય આજે 124 માવતરો સુધી પહોંચ્યું છે અને 16 માવતરો એક જગ્યાએ સાથે બેસીને જમે છે..

રાહત આપનારુ, મનને સાતા આપનારુ કાર્ય.. 

ફરી કહુ તો અમે નિમિત્ત માત્ર બાકી મદદ કરવાવાળા કરે ને આ કાર્ય આગળ ધપે.. જો કે આ કાંઈ બહુ અઘરુયે નથી.. મનીષાબહેન રાજપૂત , નીશાબહેન ભૂતાણી, પ્રજકતા ભાવે, દર્શીતા, હીના દેસાઈએ તો પોતાની ક્ષમતા મુજબ માવતરોને દત્તક લીધા જ્યાં સુધી જીવે ત્યાં સુધી એમને સાચવશે..

આ સિવાય ભાવનાબહેન મહેતા, શ્રી રશ્મીકાંતભાઈ શાહ, કુસુમબહેન શાહ, લાયન્સ કલ્બ શાહીબાગ, એસ્ટેટ ઓફ બોમી સોહરાબજી બુલરાસા, માધ્વી મહેતા, અમોલીબેન શાહ, મહેશભાઈ દવે . વગેરે જેવા ઘણા પ્રિયજનો આ કાર્યમાં સતત મદદ કરી રહ્યા છે માટે આ કાર્યો થાય છે.

અહીંયા તમામ સ્વજનોના નામ નથી લખી શકી પણ આપ સૌના અનુદાનની નોંધ લઈને આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા વ્યક્ત કરુ છું..આપ સૌ સાથે છો માટે જ આ કાર્યો થઈ રહ્યા છે.. આપની લાગણીને પ્રણામ ને ઈશ્વર આપને વધુ સેવાની તક ખુબ આપે તેવી શુભભાવના...

“Ben, we married our daughter when she reached marriageable age. She had two children. Some illness affected her brain as a result, she lost her mental balance. Her husband kept the children and sent our daughter back to us. I traded stuff on my handcart, our savings and income were largely spent on our daughter’s treatment. We are left with nothing. As age catches up, we are unable to work as we did in the past. These oldies eat whatever the ration card helps us avail,  the pension for the elderly is used for our daughter’s medical expenses. We are left with nothing when we need medication at this age. Whatever we receive from the government is not enough…” tears started flowing from  Ranchodkaka’s eyes and he could barely speak further.

We comforted Ranchodkaka and assured a monthly ration kit under VSSM’s Maavjat - elderly and destitute care initiative. We are also striving to link differently-abled Geetaben with government’s handicap assistance scheme.

Ranchodkaka and Kaki continuously worry about their daughter’s welfare, about who would care for her after their demise. The world around us is very different sadly, we have never taken the time to look around and notice the numerous individuals like Ranchodkaka. Unfortunately, privileged us cannot even comprehend their pain. 

The support you provide enables VSSM care and nourish 124 such destitute elderly under its Maavjat initiative. There is deep pain and anguish when we come across such individuals and couples; a prayer escapes our heart, urging the Almighty to provide wellbeing to one and all. 

'બેન મારી દીકરી જુવાન થઈ એટલે એને પરણાવી. એને બે બાળકો થયા. પછી એને કાંઈક બિમારી થઈ ને એ પોતાની સુધબૂધ ખોઈ બેઠી. એના ઘરવાળાએ બે બાળકો રાખી લીધા ને દીકરીને અમારી પાસે મોકલી દીધી. હું હાથલારી પર સામાન ઢોંવાનું કરતો.  થોડી ઘણી બચત દીકરીને સાજી કરવા કરેલા વાના પાછળ ખર્ચાઈ. હવે હાથ, પગ ને હૈયા સિવાયનું કશુંયે રહ્યું નથી. પાછી મારી ઉંમર પણ થઈ. હવે મજૂરી નથી થતી. ડોહા, ડોહીને રેશનકાર્ડમાં જે અનાજ મળે એનાથી ખાઈએ. સરકારની વૃદ્ધ પેન્શનની રકમ આવે એમાં મારી ગાંડી દીકરીની તો ક્યારેક અમારા મનખાને જરૃર પડે એ દવા પાછળ ખર્ચીએ..પણ અમારી હાલત ખરાબ છે બેન...પુરુ નથી થતું...' 

આટલું બોલતા બોલતા ખેડામાં રહેતા રમણકાકાની આંખો ભરાઈ આવી. 

દિલાસો તો આપવાનો જ હોય. કાકાને દર મહિને પરિવારના ત્રણે પેટ ભરીને ખાઈ શકે તેટલું અનાજ તો અમે આપીશું. સાથે માનસીક રીતે વિકલાંગ ગીતાબેનને સરકાર દ્વાર મળતી વિકલાંગ સહાય મળે તો આ પરિવારને ટેકો રહે એ માટે પણ કોશીશ કરીશું.

રમણકાકા ને કાકીને પોતે આ દુનિયામાંથી જાય તે પહેલાં દીકરી જતી રહે તો સારુ નહીં તો એનું કોણ કરશે ની સતત ચિંતા સતાવી રહી છે. 

આપણી આસપાસ એક જુદુ વિશ્વ વસે છે. સુખ સમૃદ્ધિમાં જીવતા આપણને ક્યારેય આવી તકલીફોમાં જીવતા માણસોની તકલીફોનો અંદાજ પણ ન આવે..

આવા 124 માવતરોનું ધ્યાન રાખવાનું અમે આપ સૌ સ્નેહીજનોની મદદથી સ્વીકાર્યું છે... 

ખેડાના અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈએ રમણકાકાને શોધી આપ્યા. આવા સરસ કાર્ય સાથે છે એનો આનંદ.. 

પણ આવા માવતરોને મળુ છું, જોવું ત્યારે હૈયુ કંપી ઊઠે છે.. 

કુદરત પૃથ્વી પર વસતા આવા તમામ જીવોને સાતા આપે તેવી પ્રાર્થના..

Mittal Patel meets homeless nomadic families of kheda

“We have been staying at Hanuman Tekra on the banks of Vatrak river for years. Of course, this is government land devoid of any basic facilities. The constant fear of being asked to move from the land constantly lingers. Ben, can’t we get some land to build  a permanent house.”

Ranchodbhai Bajaniya was speaking for 24 families living on Hanuman Tekra. A similar request was also made by families living opposite Kheda police station. The families living in extremely poor conditions wander to neighbouring regions for work. 

“Everything around us has developed and moved ahead but we are at the same position,” says Rameshbhai Vansfoda.

The families need a permanent address. A place they can call their own.

VSSM’s Rajnibhai has prepared the applications for these families and submitted it to the concerned department.

Our Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani wants to ensure that every homeless family gets a residential plot as soon as possible. Similar sentiments are also shared by Shri Ishwarbhai Parmar, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment. He has ensured that the families do not face challenges with regards documents like caste certificate etc.

In short, the combined efforts will ensure the fulfilment of our Prime Minister’s pledge to provide a home to all homeless by the end of 2022.  The forces are working for the marginalised. Hopefully, these Bajaniya families of Kheda will soon receive residential plots.

'વર્ષોથી ખેડામાં વાત્રક નદીના પટ પાસે, હનુમાન ટેકરા પર અમે રહીએ.. અહીંયા નથી ટોયલેટ કે નથી અન્ય સુવિધાઓ.. સરકારી જમીન પર રહીએ. કાલે કોઈ ખાલી કરાવી નાખશે નો ભય સતત રહ્યા કરે. તે હેં બેન અમને રહેવા કાયમી જગ્યા ન મળે?'

રણછોડભાઈ બજાણિયાએ ટેકરા પર રહેતા 24 પરિવારો વતી અમને રજૂઆત કરી. આવી જ રજૂઆત ખેડા પોલીસસ્ટેશન સામે રહેતા 16 વાંસફોડા પરિવારોએ પણ કરી..

ખૂબ કપરી સ્થિતિમાં જીવતા આ પરિવારો વર્ષોથી આ જગ્યા પર રહે ને કામ ધંધા માટે આજુ બાજુના વિસ્તારમાં વિચરણ કરે. 

રમેશભાઈ વાંસફોડા કહે, શહેર વિકસી ગયું પણ અમે જ્યાં છીએ ત્યાંના ત્યાં જ રહ્યા.આ પરિવારોને પોતાનું કાયમી સરનામુ જોઈએ. જ્યાંથી કોઈ એમને ખસેડી ન શકે. 

અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈએ આ પરિવારોની પ્લોટની માંગણીની અરજી તૈયાર કરીને કચેરીમાં આપી દીધી છે.

આપણા મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી વિજયભાઈ રૃપાણીની લાગણી આવા તમામ પરિવારોને પોતાનું સરનામુ ઝટ મળે તે માટેની છે. સામાજિક ન્યાય અધિકારીતા વિભાગ તરીકે શ્રી ઈશ્વરભાઈ પરમાર પણ જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્રને અન્ય બાબતમાં આ વંચિત પરિવારોને તકલીફ ન પડે તેનું ધ્યાન રાખે છે. 

ટૂંકમાં સૌની સંવેદના અને 2022 સુધીમાં ઘરવિહોણા તમામ પરિવારોને ઘર આપવાનું આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીનું સ્વપ્ન..

બધુયે વંચિતોની તરફેણમાં... એટલે ખેડામાં રહેતા બજાણિયા અને વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને પણ ઝટ પ્લોટ ફળવાય તેવી આશા રાખીએ.

 Banaskantha’s Makhanu, my favourite village.

With an extremely  progressive Sarpanch  Bhanabhai at its realm, the village is in good hands.

The trees planted near its crematorium  have gained roots, almost 1200 of them. Narsinhbhai, the Vriksh Mitr has nurtured them well.

The care and protection the trees received prompted us to request Bhanabhai for another spot to carry out some more plantation, which he did with the support and approval from the village. 3000 trees were planted at the new spot and 2918 have taken roots.  The villagers contributed towards site cleaning, fencing and watering of the plants.

Not all villages are so supportive. Of course, if they would be doing it on their own, we would not be required. I firmly believe that if each household makes an annual contribution of Rs. 500 to 1000 for the development of their village, no government support to aid  lake deepening or tree plantation would be required.

The community at Makhnu has proved this belief to be true. It was their support that has bloomed in form of the trees. Our responsibility is to provide trees, organic pesticides and manure  if required, monthly remuneration of the Vriksh Mitr. The Vashi Foundation has supported us towards the mentioned expenses. Gratitude to Makhanu community and Vashi Foundation for their proactiveness that has resulted into such wonderful work.

We hope Makhanu community will also help identify plantation spots for 2021 where we can plant 5000 trees.

Yes it was the Sarpanch and zealous villagers who made this all possible but the support  Darghabhai and Ashokbhai  have been to the Sarpanch has helped him  accomplish this plantation drive.

We were at Makhanu to monitor the plantation efforts. Darghabhai fed us with lot of love. Our team members Naranbhai and Ishwarbhai have been the force behind these efforts. They identified the villages well.

The benefits of trees need to understood not just studied in the school. It is time village heads wake-up to the need of planting trees. And wake-up soon. 

બનાસકાંઠાનું મખાણુ.. 

મને ગમતુ ગામ..સરપંચ ભાણાભાઈની ગામના વિકાસ માટેની લાગણી જબરી...

2019માં ગામની સ્મશાનભૂમીમાં વાવેલા વૃક્ષોમાંથી 1200 જેટલા સરસ થઈ ગયા છે.  વૃક્ષમિત્ર નરસીંહભાઈએ વૃક્ષોને સરસ સાચવ્યા.ગામની વૃક્ષો માટેની મમતા જોઈને અમે ભાણાભાઈને બીજી એક જગ્યા પસંદ કરી આપવા કહ્યું. ને ગામની સહમતી અને મદદથી એમણે સરસ જગ્યા શોધી આપી. જ્યાં 3000 વૃક્ષો અમે વાવ્યા. જેમાંથી 2918 ઉછરી રહ્યા છે.આ જગ્યાની સફાઈ, જગ્યા ફરતે કરવાની વાડ, પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા આ બધા માટે ગામના સૌએ માતબર ફાળો કર્યો. 

દરેક ગામ આવું નથી કરતું. જો કરત તો અમારા જેવાની જરૃર જ ન પડત. 500  કે 1000 રૃપિયા વાર્ષિક ગામના વિકાસ માટે ઘર દીઠ કાઢવામાં આવે તો પણ ગામના તળાવ ખોદવા કે વૃક્ષો વાવવા સરકાર કે કોઈની ખરેખર જરૃર ન પડે.. આ મારુ દૃઢ પણે માનવું છું...

ખેર મખાણુના નાગરિકોએ સહભાગીતાથી આ કરી બતાવ્યું એટલે ત્યાં આટલા સરસ વૃક્ષો વાવી શકાયા. અમારી જવાબદારી વૃક્ષોની ખરીદીની તેમજ વૃક્ષોની માવજત માટે રાખેલા વૃક્ષમિત્રને માસીક મહેનતાણુ આપવાની તેમજ જરૃર પડે ઝાડ માટે ખાતર, દવા લાવી આપવાની. 

આ માટે અમને મદદ કરી વાશી ફાઉન્ડેશને.. ગામ અને વાશી ફાઉન્ડેશનના અમે આભારી છીએ.. 

આપ બેઉંની સક્રિયતાથી આ કાર્ય થઈ શક્યું. 

અમને આશા છે, મખાણુ વાસીઓ જુન 2021 માટે પણ પોતાના ગામની એક બીજી જગ્યા શોધી આપશે જ્યાં 5000 ઝાડ વાવી શકાય.. આમ તો આ કાર્યમાં ઉત્સાહી સરપંચ સાથે ગામના સૌ જોડાયા પણ ગામના દરઘાભાઈ અને અશોકભાઈ સરપંચ સાથે ખડે પગે રહ્યા એટલે આ કાર્ય થઈ શક્યું.  

મખાણું વૃક્ષારોપણ સાઈટ જોવા જવાનું થયું એ વેળા દરઘાભાઈએ તો બહુ પ્રેમથી અમને સૌને જમાડ્યા પણ ખરા.. 

અમારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ, ઈશ્વરભાઈની મહેનત પણ જબરી. ગામને શોધવા એમને આ કાર્યો માટે તૈયાર કરવાનું એમણે સરસ કર્યું..

વૃક્ષના ફાયદા લખવાના નહોય આપણે સૌ એના ફાયદા જાણીએ જ છીએ...બસ વખત થઈ ગયો છે દરેક ગામે જાગવાનો... અને એ ઝટ જાગે એમ ઈચ્છીએ...

Mehulbhai Oad will inspire many of us who throw complaints at drop of a hat...

 Many of you following VSSM on Facebook know Mehul.

We had met Mehul Oad when he was severely ill. His father Pareshbhai Oad had come to our office with a picture of Mehul, for once we thought will he survive?

It was Pareshbhai’s faith and the generous support and prayers from VSSM’s well-wishing donors that pulled Mehul back from the claws of death,  the donations amounted to Rs. 5.50 lacs. 

Mehul is a truck driver, whenever he would drop by at the office to meet us along with his wife and daughter I would suggest him to quit truck driving and take up a less demanding job instead. I had also offered financial support if needed. Mehul had agreed to the idea.

“I wish to buy a car to rent it as a taxi. Need some support to make the down payment, rest I will pay the loan instalments. I wish to be self-employed, this way I will stress less and my health also will be taken care of,” Mehul had called to share his plans after recuperating well from his long battle to survive.

I was glad to see Mehul beginning to dream again. Pareshbhai had spent all his savings on Mehul’s treatment hence, he did not have money to support Mehul’s dreams.

VSSM provided him with an interest-free loan of Rs. 70,000. The remaining amount was taken as a loan from a bank. The money loaned from VSSM was paid off within a year while the bank loan is still on.  Mehul’s life is back on track, he had recovered well. The family was relieved to have put the traumatic past behind.

But life had to throw some googlies. Mehul met with a major accident when the car he was driving hit a blue-bull and tumbled. By God’s grace, he escaped while his motor car suffered substantial damage. For someone who had just managed to get his life back on track, this came as a huge financial blow. Car insurance could not cover all the expenses.

Mehul is like family to VSSM,  so he decided to share about his accident and the unforeseen expenses. “I do not like asking for such help,  but I need your support to get my car repaired,” he shared. The ongoing loan did not leave enough to permit any savings, and now this!! The amount he needed wasn’t huge, we agreed to give him another loan. And just the mention of it brought a big smile on his face.

As I always say, things are destined, we just need to play our role when called. And we shall forever remain grateful to the doctors and medical workers who saved Mehul, our well-wishing donors who generously supported his treatment. Also, all who provide support to our Swavlamban initiative that helps individuals like Mehul to re-invent their livelihoods.

Mehul now doesn’t feel defeated or get tired, he no longer blames almighty for his fate. “I need to perform my Karma,  I shall do it well,” he says.

મેહુલ.. પ્રેરણાદાયી વ્યક્તિત્વ..

ફેસબુક પરના જુના મિત્રોને મેહુલનો પરિચય છે જ...

કેવો ભયંકર બિમાર.. એના પિતા પરેશભાઈ ઓડ જ્યારે અમારા ત્યાં આવ્યાને મેહુલનો ફોટો બતાવ્યો ત્યારે એક વખત માટે તો આ બચશે કે કેમ એવું થઈ ગયેલું..પણ પિતાની શ્રદ્ધા સાથે ફેસબુકના મિત્રોએ મળીને લગભગ સાડા પાંચ લાખની મદદ એની સારવાર માટે કરી સાથે બધાની દુવા કામ લાગીને મેહુલ સાજો નરવો થઈ ગયો. 

ટ્રક ચલાવવાનું કામ કરતો મેહુલ એની પત્ની ને એની નાનકડી દીકરી સાથે જ્યારે મળવા આવ્યો ત્યારે હવે કાંઈ શાંતીવાળો વ્યવસાય કરજે ને એ માટે કાંઈ મદદની જરૃર હોય તો કહેજેનું અમે કહેલું. એણે હા પાડી.. 

થોડા મહિનાના આરામ પછી એણે,

'ટેક્ષી તરીકે ચલાવી શકાય તેવી ગાડી ખરીદવી છે. ડાઉનપેમેન્ટ ભરવા તમે થોડી મદદ કરો બાકીની લોન કરુ. પોતાની રીતે વ્યવસાય કરુ તો મને બહુ હળબળાટી ન થાય અને મારી તબીયત પણ સચવાય'

એક વખતે જીંદગીથી હારી ગયેલો મેહુલ સમણાં જોતો થયો હતો..   

મેહુલના પિતા પરેશભાઈ મેહુલની સારવારમાં જ આર્થિક રીતે ઘસાઈ ગયેલા એટલે એવી કોઈ મૂડી એમની પાસે નહોતી. VSSMએ સીત્તેર હજારની લોન આપી. બાકીની લોન એણે બેંકમાંથી લીધી. અમે આપેલી લોનના હપ્તા તો એણે વરસમાં જ ભરી દીધા. બાકી બેંકમાંથી લીધેલી લોનના હપ્તા ભરાયે જતા હતા. જિંદગી હવે પાટે ચડી ગઈ હતી. તબીયત પણ સારી હતી.. પરિવારને પણ માથેથી મોટી ઘાત ટળ્યાનો હાશકારો હતો..

ત્યાં અચનાક મહેુલની ગાડીને અકસ્માત થયો. રોડ વચ્ચે નીલગાય આવીને ગાડી પલટી ગઈ. એ બચી ગયો.. પણ ગાડીને ઘણું નુકશાન થયું. આર્થિક રીતે એ માંડ માંડ પાટે ચડ્યો હતો ત્યાં પાછો ખર્ચો. ગાડીને વિમો હતો પણ બધો ખર્ચો મળે એમ નહોતું. મેહુલ પરિવાર ભાવનાથી અમારી સાથે સંકળાઈ ગયો છે. એણે મુશ્કેલીની વાત કરી. મદદ માંગવી ગમતી નથી પણ હજુ મને ટેકાની જરૃર છે એવું એણે કહ્યું...બચતની શરૃઆત બેંકની લોન પતે પછી કરવાની હતી ત્યાં આ બધી જફા..આ વખતે એને બહુ મોટી રકમની જરૃર નહોતી. અમે નાનકડી લોન ફરી આપવાનું કહ્યું.. ને મેહુલના મોંઢે ચમક આવી...

હું હંમેશાં કહુ છુ..આપણે તો નિમિત્ત માત્ર બાકી બધુ તો ગોઠવાયેલું જ હોય છે.. સમય આવે એ નિયત કરેલું કરવાનું બસ..

બાકી મેહલુને જીવનદાન આપનાર ડોક્ટરથી લઈને એને સારવારમાં મદદ કરનાર સૌનો આભાર સાથે સાથે મેહુલને આર્થિક રીતે ફેર બેઠો કરવામાં મદદ કરનારનો પણ આભાર..

મેહુલની વાત લખવા પાછળનો આશય. તે હવે હારતો નથી થાકતો નથી ના કુદરતને દોષ દે છે.. મારા ભાગે કર્મ કરવાનું છે ને એ હુ બરાબર કરીશ.. એવું એ કહે છે.. નાની નાની વાતોમાં થાકનાર માટે મેહુલ પ્રેરણા આપનારો છે...

The community participation helped us take the tree plantation drive forward Kankrej’s Shiyagaum where we planted 2000 trees in and around the cemetery. Participatory tree plantation program requires commitment from the community to identify a spot, make water arrangements, protection fence while VSSM clears the space, brings the saplings and pays monthly remuneration to Vriksh Mitra/tree caretaker.

The community of Shiyagaum is very proactive and volunteered to take up the responsibility. The very active Abbasbhai, Shefuddinbhai and other youth managed to raise 1982 trees in 4 months, with just 18 trees dying.

They also spent around Rs. 1 lakh to house the Vriksh Mitra near the site. One look around the area the trees have been planted one gets a sense that they are well maintained and looked after.

“Plant trees to bring rains…” a slogan we have heard growing up needs to come to life in Banaskantha, a region that remains rain starved. In 2019 we initiated tree plantation drive in villages of Banaskantha, with plantation happening at 22 sites.

Along with the Vriksh Mitra,  VSSM team members also work round the clock to ensure the saplings take roots, they don’t get infected with pests, provide manure, maintain a tree count, rebuke the vriksh mitra where required. The VSSM team members Naranbhai, Ishwarbhai, Bhagwanbhai are on a constant move.

During the monsoon of 2021, we plan to plant 1 lakh trees in rural Banaskantha,  provided the village communities are prepared to their bit and share the responsibility.

Trees are our lifeline, they take care of us, they make earth look beautiful. Hope people sign up for this task of making our rath look beautiful.

કાંકરેજનું શિયાગામ..

ગામના કબ્રસ્તાનમાં અમે 2000 વૃક્ષો ગામના સહયોગથી વાવ્યા. આમ તો વૃક્ષો વાવવા માટે અમારી કેટલીક શરતો જેમાંની મુખ્યત્વે વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા જગ્યા, એની ફરતે કાંટાળી વાડ અને પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા ગામલોકોએ કરી આપવાની. 

અમારા ભાગે વૃક્ષો લાવવાનું, જગ્યાની સફાઈ ને વૃક્ષોનું જતન કરનાર વૃક્ષોની મા કે મિત્રને માસીક સેવક સહાય આપવાનું.શિયાના જાગૃત બિરાદરોએ આ જવાબદારી સ્વીકારી એટલે જ અમે ત્યાં વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. 

અમને સતત ચિંતા આ વૃક્ષોના ઉછેરની હોય. પણ વૃક્ષમિત્ર અબ્બાસભાઈ બહુ સક્રિય ને એમને સહયોગ શેફુદ્દીનભાઈ અને અન્ય સ્વજનોનો એટલે ચાર મહિનામાં ફક્ત 18 વૃક્ષ બળ્યા બાકી 1982 હયાત. 

વૃક્ષમિત્ર વૃક્ષારોપણ કરેલી જગ્યા પર રહી શકે તે માટે એકાદ લાખના ખર્ચે નાનકડુ ઘર પણ કબ્રસ્તાનમાં જ બનાવી દેવામાં આવ્યું. વૃક્ષારોપણ કરેલી જગ્યા જોઈને સરસ માવજત કરી છે એવું આપોઆપ બોલાઈ જાય. 

બનાસકાંઠામાં વરસાદનું પ્રમાણ ઓછુ.. નિશાળમાં ખુબ ભણ્યા, વૃક્ષ વાવો વરસાદ લાવો. આ વાક્ય અમલી બનાવવાનું અમે 2019થી શરૃ કર્યું ને શિયા જેવા અન્ય ગામોમાં મળીને કુલ 22 સાઈટ પર વૃક્ષારોપણ કર્યું. 

વૃક્ષમિત્રની સાથે સાથે અમારા કાર્યકરો નારણભાઈ, ઈશ્વરભાઈ, ભગવાનભાઈની પણ સખત મહેનત. 

દર મહિને ઝાડની ગણતરી, વૃક્ષમિત્રની મહેનત નબળી દેખાય ત્યાં ટકોર, ઝાડને રોગ લાગુ ન પડે તે માટે જરૃરી દવા, ખાતર.. કાંઈ કેટલુંયે ધ્યાન રાખવા એ સતત ફરતાં રહે...

2021 ના ચોમાસે 1 લાખ ઝાડ વાવવાનું આયોજન છે.. ગ્રામજનો જાગે ને ભાગીદારી સાથે આ કાર્ય કરવા તૈયાર થાય ત્યાં આ કરવું છે... 

ઝાડ એ આપણી ધરતી માનો શણગાર છે. દરેક ગામ ધરતીમાના શણગાર માટે સજ્જ થાય એવી આશા...

Benap is the interior village of Banaskantha district. 

You get saline water at eight to ten feet in the ground. If we leave Bhabhar and go a little further, we can see the kingdom of mad acacia scattered all around. Yes, in the middle of the desert, you can see a few piludi trees. Crazy acacia everywhere else ...

Yes, the importance of these two trees in preventing the desert from advancing is also good and they grow well in saline places in less water. However, I always question that instead of mad acacia, why don’t they have our native trees like neem, pipal and kanji? And why is the kanji tree not considered as our native tree?. 

We don't like to stand in the direct sun. We always find the shade of a tree to seat under and what could be a better home for birds then trees? 

Trees are useful in bringing rain. So we undertook a campaign to plant trees in Banaskantha and planted 1200 trees in Benap in 2019-20 out of which 1073 trees are nice as seen in the photo. I thought because of the salinity in this area, tree growth will not be very fast but the hard work of our tree friend Jodhabhai changed my beliefs.

The supervision of Sarpanch Paragbhai Rajput is also the same. We wish every village to get such a sarpanch who is committed to the development of the village ...

Seeing the grooming of the trees, we asked Paragbhai and the villagers to prepare another site from now on, where 7 to 10 thousand trees can be planted. The villagers also said yes to that ...

O Goddess Earth, every other living being has equal rights on you like humans. We firmly believe that this is our attempt like Ramayana's squirrel to make you beautiful as well as to make you calm.

Our activist Bhagwanbhai, Naranbhai's active cooperation in this is the reason why such nice villages are selected.

The feelings of the rest are like the song which roughly translates like “You will like to make life beautiful, you like to be bloomed and let others bloom like a flower..”

 બેણપ બનાસકાંઠાનું છેવાડાનું ગામ. 

જમીનમાં આઠ દસ ફૂટે ખારુ પાણી. ભાભર છોડી થોડા આગળ જઈએ એટલે ચારે બાજુ ગાંડા બાવળનું સામ્રાજ્ય પથરાયેલું જોવા મળે. હા વચમાં વચમાં રણમાં મીઠી વિરડીની જેમ પીલુડી જોવા મળે ખરી. બાકી બધે ગાંડો બાવળ...

આમ તો રણને આગળ વધતુ અટકાવવામાં આ બેય ઝાડનું મહત્વ પણ ખરુ ને ઓછા પાણીમાં ખારાશવાળી જગ્યામાં આ બેય ઊગે પણ સારા..જો કે ગાંડા બાવળની જગ્યાએ લીમડો, પીપળ. કણજી આપણા મૂળ ઝાડ કેમ નહીં આ પ્રશ્ન હંમેશાં થાય. 

ખરા તડકામાં ઊભવું આપણને ગમે નહીં આપણેય બેઠક માટે છાંયડો શોધીયે ને પક્ષીઓને ઝાડ જેવું ઘર ક્યાં જડે? 

પાછુ વરસાદ લાવવામાં આ ઝાડ જ ઉપયોગી બને.. એટલે બનાસકાંઠાથી વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું અભીયાન અમે હાથ ધર્યું ને બેણપમાં 2019-20માં 1200 ઝાડ કર્યા જેમાંથી 1073 ઝાડ ફોટોમાં દેખાય એવા સરસ થયા.મને હતું આ વિસ્તારમાં ખારાશ છે એટલે ઝાડનો ગ્રોથ બહુ ઝડપી નહીં થાય પણ વૃક્ષ મિત્ર જોધાભાઈની  મહેનતે મારી માન્યતાને બદલી નાખી..

સરપંચ પરાગભાઈ રાજપૂતની દેખરેખ પણ એવી જ. ગામના વિકાસ માટે કટીબદ્ધ આવા સરપંચ દરેક ગામને મળે એવું ઈચ્છીએ... 

વૃક્ષોની માવજત જોઈને બીજી એક સાઈટ અત્યારથી તૈયાર કરવા પરાગભાઈ અને ગ્રામજનોને કહ્યું. જ્યાં 7 થી 10 હજાર ઝાડ વાવી શકાય.. ગ્રામજનોએ પણ એ માટે હા પાડી... 

હે મા ધરા તારા પર મનુષ્ય સિવાય અન્ય જીવોનો પણ અધિકાર છે. અમે દૃઢપણે આ માનીએ એટલે તને સુંદર બનાવવાની સાથે સાથે તને સાતા પહોંચે એવું કરવાનો રામાયણની ખીસકોલીની જેેમ અમારો પ્રયાસ... 

અમારા કાર્યકર ભગવાનભાઈ, નારણભાઈનો આમાં સક્રિય સહયોગ એમની દોડાદોડીને લીધે જ આવા સરસ ગામો પસંદ થાય..

બાકી નો ભાવ 'જીવન સુંદર બનાવું તો તુજને ગમે, ખુદ ખીલું ને ખાલાવું તો તુજને ગમે.. ' એ ભાવગીત જેવો..

It is impossible to imagine life without water. Yet, we have overexploited one of the most precious resources on earth. The groundwater reserves that had to remain untouched are on verge of exhaustion. Numerous city dwellers share that unavailability of water forced them to migrate to cities despite having land and house in their native village. Migrations like these should not have happened in the first place. 

It is important that along with water conservation efforts, we also educate the population on the value of pure water. And sooner we do that better it is. 

VSSM has deepened 115 lakes in Banaskantha 

During the past 4 years, VSSM has deepened 115 lakes in Banaskantha, this year the target is to deepen 50 more. Of course, all this happens with community participation. 

It is not just the youth but the entire Bhatasana village that is quite aware of water conservation. Last year we deepened one of its lake, good monsoon and surplus water from Sardar Sarovar helped fill up the lake to the brim. Once the lakes fill up the groundwater gets recharged and the farmers also stand to benefit. 

The residents of Bhatasana very well understood the philosophy behind deepening of lakes; Chandrakantbhai, a youth wind leader called up to ensure his entire team is prepared in whichever way possible to support VSSM undertake water conservation efforts in their village. 

During the recent meeting with the Bhatasana community, the villagers agreed to contribute Rs. 50,000 and lift all the excavated soil. Such sensitive communities need to applauded to the fullest.

To me planting trees and conserving water are holy deeds, they spread the goodness around, bring much needed respite to those who rely on it. 

Bhatasana residents have woken up to the need for conserving water and environment but the residents of Banaskantha and Patan must understand the gravity of the growing water crisis in their region.  

In the attached video Bhatasana residents Kirtibhai and others share the benefits of the water conservation efforts in their village. The entire water conservation efforts are taken forward by VSSM Naranbhai, who puts in a lot of hard work and enthusiasm in this work.

 બાનસકાંઠામાં #જળસંચય અભિયાનની પાંચમી સીઝનની શરૃઆત સુઈગામના ભટાસણાગામથી...

જળ - જેના વગર આ ધરતી જીવ વિહોણી બજંર થઈ જાય..છેલ્લા ઘણા વર્ષોમાં પાણીનો બેફામ ઉપયોગ ને જમીનમાંથી પાણીનું અમાપ દોહન જોઈને ખેડૂતોને મોંઢે સાંભળેલું ત્રીસ પાંત્રીસ વર્ષ પહેલાં શું હતું તે યાદ  આવી જાય....

શહેરમાં આવીને વસેલાં લોકોમાંથી ઘણા કહે ગામમાં ઘર ને ખેતર બધુયે છે પણ પાણી નહોતું એટલે જીવવા શહેરોમાં આવ્યા.. મારા મતે આ ઈચ્છીત સ્થળાંતર નથી.. 

આનો ઉકેલ પાણી બચાવવાની સાથે સાથે એનું મૂલ્ય સમજવામાં હવે ઝાઝી વાર ન લગાડીએ તે..અમે બનાસકાંઠાના 115 તળાવોને છેલ્લા ચાર વર્ષમાં ઊંડા કર્યા..આ વર્ષે પણ ગ્રામજનોની ભાગીદારીથી 50 તળાવો કરવાનો લક્ષાંક છે.. 

#ભટાસણા ગામના યુવાનો ને આમ તો આખુયે ગામ બહુ જાગૃત.. ગયા વર્ષે અમે ગામનું એક તળાવ ગાળ્યું. ચોમાસુ સારુ હતું તે વરસાદથી અને પછી સરકારે પણ નર્મદા કેનાલમાંથી કાઢેલી પાઈપલાઈનથી આ તળાવને#vssm ભર્યું. તળાવમાં પાણી ભરાય ને એ પાણી જમીનમાં ઉતરે તો તળ ઉપર આવે સાથે સાથે પશુપક્ષીઓને પણ પાણી મળે.. ને ખેડૂતોને ખેતીમાં પણ ફાયદો થાય..

એ ફાયદો ગામલોકો બરાબર સમજ્યા. એટલે જ ગામના જાગૃત યુવાન ચંદ્રકાન્તભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો ને ગામના તમામ ને પોતાની આખી ટીમ ગામનું તળાવ ગાળવા જરૃરી તમામ મદદ કરશેનું કહ્યું. ભટાસણાવાસીઓ સાથે તળાવ ગાળવા સંદર્ભે બેઠક કરી. જેમાં ગ્રામજનોએ સામેથી માટી ઉપાડવા સિવાય 50,000નો ફાળો પણ તળાવ ખોદકામ માટે આપવાની વાત કરી... આવા સંવેદનશીલ ગ્રામવાસીઓને તો પ્રણામ કરવા ઘટે... 

મારા મતે #તળાવ ગળાવવું ને ઝાડ વાવવું આ બેય પુણ્યના કામો.. હજારો જીવોને એનાથી સાતા મળે... ભટાસણાવાસીઓ તો જાગ્યા પણ બનાસકાંઠા, પાટણ વિસ્તારના અન્ય ગ્રામજનો ઝટ જાગે એમ ઈચ્છીએ... 

ભટાસણાગામનું VSSM ની મદદથી ગળાયેલા તળાવથી થયેલા ફાયદાની વાત કરતા ગામના કીર્તીભાઈની અન્ય સ્નેહીજનો.. તથા ગયા વર્ષે ભરાયેલું તળાવ, GACL માંથી સંસ્થાના કાર્યોને જોવા આવેલા આસ્થા ને અન્ય ગ્રામજનો..

 Recently, I happened  to meet Dharma Ma and Kanjiba, an elderly couple surviving under pathetic living conditions, as if waiting to silently ebb away into the horizon!!

VSSM comes across hundreds of older aged people living in distress. Some need to beg for food, some depend on others to provide them with some cooked meals. They are either abandoned or their children stay in different towns or they are destitute in the true sense. Under the Maavjat initiative, VSSM cares and nurtures the elderly it takes under its wings. The seniors are provided rations kits or cooked meals depending on their ability to feed themselves. It also takes care of their medical needs assisting them with check-ups and medicines. We started with 60 elderly last year, the number has grown to above 100 now and there are hundreds more waiting to be reached. As age takes over, they cannot work as manual or farm labourers,  this inability to earn a living is pushing the destitute seniors into the trenches of hunger and agony. If they could,  these individuals would still work to earn living but these are humans who do not fall into the comfort of retirement plans or earn pensions need our assistance to spend their remaining lives with an assurance that there will be food on their plate and they need not have to feel neglected and unwanted for the rest of their life.

It was early afternoon when we reached at Dharma Ma and Kanjiba's (Dada are addressed as Ba in Banaskantha)  humble abode. The wicker basket held some millet flatbreads, but there was no sight of any accompaniments!! Also, Kanjiba is visually impaired while DhramaMa  has challenges with hearing. It was evident that Kanjiba would not have managed to get his cataract removed on time (in absence of any information to the free eye camps happening in the region)  and that must have created further complications and eventual loss of sight.

Kanjiba has a daughter, who was widowed when her two children were still quite small. I learnt that the daughter now stays with Kanjiba. However, she suffers from some medical condition."Where do you work?" I had asked.

"I don’t keep well, my stomach hurt as there is an issue of fluid retention. I need to visit the doctor regularly and get it removed. Hence, I cannot lift heavy stuff and need to refrain from engaging in any strenuous activity. I collect cattle dung and sell it to a farmer when enough dung has accumulated." Kanjiba's daughter replied.

"How much money does that fetch?" I inquired.

"Ben, imagine the time it takes to pile up this dunghill, and when she sells it brings her mere Rs. 700-800," a lady in the neighbouring house spoke up.

It was obvious,  that piling a dunghill so high would take months. VSSM provides Kanjiba and Dhrmama with a monthly ration kit so that they at least have food at the end of the day.

"Ma, is ration sufficient for you?" I enquired.

"A little more would surely helpful," she replied.

I think the addition of two grandkids to the family might have impacted the sufficiency.

The ration cards do help procure some ration, but Kanjiba's disability is a grave concern.

"Do you want  us to help you with a medical examination of your eyes?" I asked. 

"It is time for me to leave this world, what is the need to get the body torn and operated upon!!'

There is a folk song in Gujarati "Ghadpan Kone Moklya" that describes the plight of the elderly, it is a challenging phase of life when one does not have physical and financial support. The destitute elderly we meet in the villages we work seem to be waiting for death while they should be pleasantly spending their time, realising their potential. It pains us to see living in a pathetic condition with no one to care or provide for them. It is as if they will depart from this world hungry and heavy heart. We work hard to ensure they lead a dignified life and leave this world full-filled. A little prayer always escapes our heart urging Almighty to provide the elderly with a better old age.

બપોરના સમયે અમે ગોલવીમાં રહેતા ધરમામાંને કાનજીબાના ઘરે પહોંચ્યા. એક છાબડીમાં બાજરીના રોટલા દીઠાં પણ રોટલા સાથે ખાઈ શકાય એવું બીજુ કશુંયે અમે ત્યાં જોયું નહીં.

વળી કાનજીબા (બનાસકાંઠામાં દાદાને બા કહે)ને તો આંખે કશુંયે દેખાય નહીં. ને ધરમામાંને પણ આછુ ભળાય. આંખો જોતા જ ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે જે તે સમયે મોતિયા આવ્યા હશે પણ ઓપરેશન કરાવવાના પૈસા નહીં ને વિનામૂલ્યે ઓપરેશન થાય એવા સરનામાં નહીં જડ્યા હોય એટલે મોતિયો આંખમાં ફૂટી ગયો હશે ને આંખે ભળાતુ બંધ થયું.

કાનજીબાને એક દીકરી. જેને પરણાવીને સાસરે મોકલી. પણ એનાય કરમ ફૂટેલાં. ઘરવાળો બે નાના બાળકો મૂકીને પરલોક સીધાવ્યો. કાનજીબાના ઘરે જવાનું થયું ત્યારે એમની દીકરીએ પોતે અહીંયા જ રહે છેની વાત કરી. મે પુછ્યું, ‘તમે શું કામ કરો?’

‘મને સારુ નથી રહેતું મારા પેટમાં તકલીફ છે. પાણી ભરાઈ જાય છે તે થોડા થોડા વખતે ડોક્ટર પાસે એને ખેંચાવું પડે. એટલે ભારે કામ નથી થતું. હું છાણ ભેગુ કરવાનું કામ કરુ છું. આ છાણ ભેગુ થાય પછી ખેડૂતને એ વેચી દઉં’

‘કેટલા રૃપિયા મળે?’

મારી વાત સાંભળી કાનજીબાના પડોશમાં રહેતા બહેન બોલ્યા, ‘બેન છાણનો ઉકેડો ક્યારે બને ને ક્યારે એને 700- 800 મળે?’

સ્વાભાવીક રીતે જ છાણ ભેગુ કરતા મહિનાઓ લાગે એ વાત સમજાઈ.. અમે કાનજીબા ને ધરમામાંને દર મહિને રાશન આપીએ.. મૂળ તો એમને ભૂખ્યા સુવુ ન પડે માટે.

મે પુછ્યું, ‘મા રાશન ચાલી જાય છે?’ તો એમણે કહ્યું, ‘થોડું વધારે મળે તો સારુ..’

મૂળ તો ખાવામાં બે ભાણિયા ભળ્યા એટલે કદાચ પુરુ નહીં થતું હોય...

સરકારે આપેલા રાશનકાર્ડ પર અનાજ મળે છે. જેમાંથીયે ટેકો થઈ જાય. બાકી કાનજીબાને પણ શારિરીક તકલીફ મોટી છે. મે કહ્યું, ‘દવાખાને બતાવવું છે?’ તો કહે, ‘હવે તો ઉપર જવાનો સમય આવ્યો. હવે ચીરફાટ કરીને શું કરવાનું?’

ઘડપણ..કોઈ શબ્દોથી વર્ણવી નથી શકાતુ.. મોતની રાહ જોતા આવા માવતરોને જોઈને જીવ બળે... ભૂખે ને દુઃખી હૃદયે આ દુનિઆમાંથી તેઓ વિદાય ન લે એ માટે અમે મથીયે... પણ આવા કેટલાક માવતરોને જોઈને ઈશ્વર આવું ઘડપણ આવી તકલીફ કોઈનેય ન આપે એવી પ્રાર્થના મનોમન થઈ જાય...

આવા માવતરોને મદદ કરવાની ઈચ્છા હોય તો 9099936013 પર વાત કરવા વિનંતી...

બાળકો તો ઘણાય દત્તક લે છે.. ક્યારેક માવતરોને દત્તક લઈ જોઈએ... જીવને સાતા મળશે.. એ ચોક્કસ..

અમારા કાર્યકર નારણ અને ઈશ્વરના અમે આભારી છીએ એમણે આવા માવતરોને શોધી કાઢ્યા. ને આભાર મદદ કરવાવાળાનો પણ એમની મદદ સતત છે માટે અમે આવા કાર્યો કરવાની હીંમત કરી શકીએ છીએ....

Mittal Patel meets Sarpanch of Morpa village

Our salutes to Maganbhai Desai, Sarpanch of Morpa village.

The reigns of development of any village lie in the hands of its Sarpanch. The nature of our work provides us with many opportunities to interact with many Sarpanchs, some of whom win our admiration. Recently, we happen to meet Maganbhai Desai, the sarpanch of Patan’s Morpa village.

VSSM had helped file applications for allotment of residential plots for 7 Raval families living in shanties around the village. In the recent  Land Committee meetup the plots were approved. It was the proactiveness of the Sarpanch that resulted in the approval. It is always a pleasure to meet such committed and compassionate individuals. 

‘Ben, I am always ready to assist you in this noble cause of welfare of the poor communities. I will speak for them where ever you ask me to ensure they receive help to settle down at one place in a house with power connection,”  he shared when recently I had the opportunity to meet. Him. Very few Sarpach are empathetic towards the needs of the poor families of their village. Even the marginalised families I met has tremendous respect for Maganbhai. 

I have come across many who never have anything good to say about their Sarpanch. When the village leader remains distant towards the basic needs of the poor in the village, the struggling families never appreciate their leaders. No one likes to be critical of good actions, right? 

There are three villages in Patan,(I will refrain from naming them) whose leadership decided to overlook the applications despite  District Collector’s order to approve the applications during the land committee meetup, the sarpanch did not raise the matter of plot allocations at the meeting. 

Just like the collector is the king of her/his district, the Sarpanch reigns supreme in the village. They should wholeheartedly grab these opportunities of being helpful to others, the lesser fortunate. It pains us when we come across sarpanchs who demand percentage from the government assistance for deepening of village lakes or other public works. 

But, Sarapnch like Maganbhai give us hope, they are the reason the poor in the village can hope for a better life. Salute to Maganbhai who is trying his best to ensure the homeless Raval families soon acquire an address.  Great applause also to VSSM’s team member Mohanbhai, who work tirelessly to find such nomadic families and link them to the social security net.

મોરપાગામના સરપંચ મગનભાઈ દેસાઈને સલામ...

સરપંચ ગામના વિકાસની મુખ્ય ધુરા જેના હાથમાં છે એ વ્યક્તિ..

ગ્રામવિકાસના કાર્યો કરતા હોવાના નાતે અમારે ઘણા સરપંચોને મળવાનું થાય.. જેમાંના કેટલાક માટે તો વિશેષ માન થાય એવા...

આવા જ એક સરપંચને હમણાં મળવાનું થયું. 

પાટણના મોરપાગામના સરપંચ મગનભાઈ દેસાઈ..

ગામમાં ઝૂંપડાં કે કાચા ઘર બાંધીને રહેતા રાવળ સુમદાયના સાત પરિવારોને પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે અમે સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરેલી તે લેન્ડ કમીટી ભરાઈ એમાં આ પરિવારોના પ્લોટ મંજૂર થયા. 

સરપંચ પોતે સતત ફોલોઅપ લે. આવા જાગૃત સરપંચને મળવું તો ગમે જ. 

મોરપા એમને મળી તો કહે, બેન આ ગરીબ માણસોના કાર્યમાં જ્યાં પણ મારી જરૃર પડે હું કાળી રાતે સાથે. આમને લાઈટ ને રહેવા કાયમી જગ્યા મળે એ માટે તમે કહેશો ત્યાં હું રજૂઆત કરીશ. આવી એમની લાગણી.. બહુ ઓછા સરપંચોમાં આ જોવા મળે. જે વંચિત પરિવારોને હું મળી એમને પણ સરપંચ માટે ખુબ આદરભાવ.. 

બાકી સરપંચો માટે કટુ વાક્ય બોલતા લોકો પણ મે જોયા છે. મૂળ તો એમની આશાઓ પૂર્ણ ન થાય માટે જ આવા કડવા વેણ નીકળે. બાકી કડવું બોલી પોતાનું મોંઢુ ગંધાતુ કરવું કોને ગમે?

બાકી પાટણના ત્રણ બીજા ગામો જેમના નામ નથી લખતી. પણ કલેક્ટર શ્રીએ આદેશ કર્યો કે લેન્ડ કમીટી બેસાડો અને ગામમાં રહેતા ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ આપવાનું એમાં ઠરાવો. આદેશ હતો એટલે લેન્ડ કમીટી બેઠી પણ જેમના પ્લોટની માંગણી કરી હતી તેમનાં પ્લોટની વાત સરપંચે કરી જ નહીં..

કલેક્ટર જિલ્લાનો રાજા, ધણી એમ સરપંચ ગામના...કુદરતે સતકર્મો કરવાનો મોકો આપ્યો છે.. મારા ખ્યાલથી આ અમૂલ્યતક છે એમ માનીને એને ઝડપી લેવી જોઈએ એની જગ્યાએ આમનું ના થવું જોઈએ.. કે ક્યાંક તળાવના કામોમાં તો અમને કેટલા મળશે એવું સરપંચ પુછે ત્યારે બહુ દુઃખ થાય..

ખેર મોરપાના સરપંચ જેવા ઘણા આશાસ્પદ છે.. અને એ લોકોના લીધે જ વિકાસના કાર્યો થાય છે એય હકીકત.. મગનભાઈને સલામ ને જેમને પોતાનું સરનામુ મળ્યું એવા રાવળ પરિવારો માટે સુખી થાવની ભાવના... 

આ વિસ્તારના અમારા સંનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈ જેઓએ આ પરિવારને શોધ્યા તેમની વાત અમારા સુધી પહોંચાડી..

મોરપા ગઈ ત્યારે સરપંચને, જેમને પ્લોટ મળ્યા તે પરિવારોને મળવાનું થયું તે અને આ પરિવારોની હાલની રહેણાંકની સ્થિતિ બધુયે ફોટોમાં.
