Mittal Patel meets nomadic families of Gandhinagar

Everyone dreams about a house, But the dream does not always come true.

We are the people who have the habit of occupying the seat of a bus by putting a handkerchief on a seat from the window.

Although this practice is acceptable for everyone in the case of a bus, but not for the house!

Nomadic tribes people and other poor families put handkerchiefs on the government-owned land near the Mahatma Temple in Gandhinagar years ago and no one removed it, so they believed that the land belongs to them now, but this is not the seat of the bus!

After 35-50 years of living, suddenly a bulldozer turned up and vanished everything in a second.

Everyone was wondering where to go.

Our worker Tohid and Rizwan and Sanjaybhai, the leader of the colony, together with others, prepared the details of these homeless families. Submitted the details in the Collector's office . Collector assured to find a government place to settle these families.

Home ... I don't think the word needs any definition.  I pray that these homeless families get their own home soon. In the meeting held with these families, they told their problems. Listening to this, I pray that no one will suffer like this.

ઘરનું સમણું તો બધા જુએ પણ પૂરું બધાનું નથી થતું ..

બસમાં ચડવા ભીડ ઘણી હોય તો બારીમાંથી એકાદ સીટ પર રૂમાલ મૂકી જગ્યા રોકી લેવાની ટેવવાળા આપણે ...

જોકે બેસવા પૂરતો આ વ્યવહાર સૌએ સ્વીકારેલો પણ ઘર માટે આ વ્યવહાર સ્વીકાર્ય નહિ ..

ગાંધીનગરના મહાત્મા મઁદિર નજીકની સરકારી પડતર જગ્યામાં વિચરતી જાતિના ને અન્ય ગરીબ પરિવારોએ વર્ષો પહેલા રૂમાલ મુક્યો ને કોઈએ હટાવ્યા નહીં એટલે આ જગ્યા હવે પોતાની એવું માન્યું પણ આ કઇં બસની સીટ થોડી હતી...

35-50 વર્ષના વસવાટ પછી અચાનક પોતાની માનેલી જગ્યા પર બુલડોઝર ફેરવાયું ને પલકારામાં બધું ભોંય ભેગું થઇ ગયું ..

ક્યાં જાશુનો સવાલ બધાને થયો ...

અમારા કાર્યકર તોહીદ અને રિઝવાન અને વસાહતના આગેવાન સંજયભાઈ ને અન્ય સૌએ મળીને આ ઘર વિહોણા પરિવારોની વિગત તૈયાર કરી ...

કલેકટર કચેરીમાં વિગત જમા કરાવી... કલેક્ટર શ્રીએ સરકારી જગ્યા શોધી આ પરિવારોને વસાવવાની ખાત્રી આપી ..

ઘર ... મારા ખ્યાલથી આ શબ્દને કોઈ વ્યાખ્યાની જરૂર જ નથી .. ઘર વિહોણા આ પરિવારોને પોતાનું ઘર ઝટ મળે એવી પ્રાર્થના ...

આ પરિવારોની સાથે થયેલી બેઠકમાં એમણે પોતાની તકલીફો કહી.. સાંભળીને આવું દુઃખ કોઈને ન પડે એમ પ્રાર્થના મનોમન થાય ...

Mittal Patel meets Jivat Ma Bajaniya in Patan

Jivatma lives in Patan's Sarwal village. The last house in Bajaniya community is her’s.When we reached her home her body was curved and she was walking in her front yard.

I asked: "Ma, Why are you walking in this afternoon rather than sitting in your bed under a neem tree?"

She told me: “I was waiting for you. Mohanbhai told me that you are going to come.”

While saying this, she came close to me, held my hand and made me sit on the bed and she sat on the floor in front of me. 

I said: “Sit on the bed”.

“No, I can not sit in the bed in front of my son-in-law.”

Dakubhai of their community was with us. He said, 'This Laxmanbhai is our son-in-law . He has married to Sarwal's daughter’

Laxmanbhai of Jalalabad has been working with me since I started working with the Bajaniya community. When he got to know that I am coming to Sarwal, he came specially to meet me.

Jivatma observes respect for him. I said, “You are old now and Lakshmanbhai is younger than you, it’s okay if you don’t do this.”

Then she said, 'I want to sing something for you, but my son-in-laaaw…..'

Finally I told Lakshmanbhai to go from there, and then jivatma started singing

“Made curry with Dal tuvar and vegetables and added nice spices ...

Long live your name and the community… ”

I could see the shine of love in the eyes of jivatma. She sang the song by giving tribute to the ration kit we give her every month. Tears welled up in the eyes of everyone standing there as they listened to the song she was singing. I stopped jivatma, “don't speak further now ma”

She told: “You brought life for us, otherwise we old husband and wife might be lying around that corner”

We said: “we give you what someone gives us. We are just a mediator. So don't say anything more.” 

After sitting with her for a while, we went out, but that dal, tuvar vegetable song was still playing in my head. 

Thanks to the dear ones who helped to give rations to such mothers every month and also congratulations to our team who found such mothers .. Our mohanbhai found jivatma. Your virtue is so big, brother.. 

જીવતમા પાટણના સરવાલમાં રહે. બજાણિયા વસાહતમાં સૌથી છેલ્લે એમનું ઘર. એમના ઘરે અમે પહોંચ્યા તો શરીરે વાંકા વળી ગયેલા જીવતામાં આંગણામાં આંટા મારી રહ્યા હતા...

'ખરા બપોરે લીમડા નીચે ઢાળેલાં ખાટલામાં બેસવાની જગ્યાએ આમ આંટા કેમ મારી રહ્યા છો મા?'

'તમારી વાટ જોતી'તી. મોહનભઈ કઈ રાસ્યુ તુ ક તમે આબ્બાના'તા...'

એમ કહેતા કહેતા જીવતમાં અમારી સામે આવ્યા અને હાથ પકડીને મને ખાટલે બેસાડી. એ પછી એ મારી સામે ભોંય પર બેઠા.. મે કહ્યું,

'મા ખાટલે બેેસો..'

'ના જમાઈ હામે ખાટલે ના બેહાય..'

વસાહતના ડકુભાઈ અમારી સાથે હતા એમણે કહ્યું, 'આ લક્ષ્મણભાઈ અમારા જમાઈ થાય.. સરવાલની દીકરી એમના ઘરે છે..'

જલાલાબાદના લક્ષ્મણભાઈ બજાણિયા વિચરતી જાતિઓ સાથે કામ શરૃ કર્યું ત્યારથી મારી સાથે.. હું સરવાલ આવવાની હતી એટલે એ ખાસ મળવા આવેલા. 

જીવત મા એમનો મલાજો પાળતા. મે કહ્યું, 'જીવતમાં હવે ઉંમર થઈ અને લક્ષ્મણભાઈ તો તમારા કરતા નાના આવું ન પાળીએ તો ચાલે..'

તો એમણે ક્હયું, 'માર તમને કોક હંભળાવવુ હ... પણ આ જમઈ...'

છેવટે લક્ષ્મણભાઈને મે ત્યાંથી જવા કહ્યું, ને જીવત માએ કહ્યું,

'દાળ તુવેરનું શાક બનાયું... સરસ મસાલો નોખ્યો...

ધન ધન નોમ તમારુ... અમ્મર રહેશે કોમ...'

જીવતમાંની આંખોમાં પ્રેમ છલકાતો હતો. અમે દર મહિને રાશન કીટ આપતા એનો ભાવ એમણે આમ ગાઈને વ્યક્ત કર્યો. જીવતમાં જે ભાવથી ગાઈ રહ્યા હતા એ સાંભળીને ત્યાં ઊભેલા બધાની આંખોમાંથી આંસુએ ડોકિયું કર્યું. મે જીવતમાંને રોક્યા હવે આગળ ન બોલો માં... એવું ના છૂટકે કહેવું પડ્યું..

એમણે કહ્યું, 

તમે અમન જીવાડ્યા. નકર ડોહો, ડોહી ખુણામોં પડ્યાતા..'

અમે કહ્યું, કોઈ આપે એ અમે તમને આપીએ. અમે તો નિમિત્ત માત્ર. માટે વધારે કશુંયે ન કહેશો..

એમની સાથે થોડીવાર બેસીને અમે નીકળ્યા પણ પેલું દાળ, તુવેરનું શાક બનાયું સરસ મસાલો નાખ્યો વાળુ વાક્ય કાનમાં સતત ગૂંજ્યા કર્યું..

આવા માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન આપવામાં મદદ કરનાર સ્નેહીજનોનો આભાર તેમજ આવા માવતરોને શોધનાર અમારી ટીમ પ્રત્યે રાજીપો.. જીવતમાંને અમારા મોહનભાઈ તમે શોધ્યા.. આનું પુણ્ય બહુ મોટુ ભાઈ...

Rameshbhai Nat, a resident of Juna Deesa. He has been performing acrobatic acts on a rope for as long as he can remember.

“Ben, the Nats perform the acts at the cost of their life, the acrobats in the circus have a large net to catch them in came there is a mishap and not us. It is the Mother Earth who protects us!” Kishankaka, the Nat leader often tells us.

True, but many Nats have lost their lives while performing these daredevil acts.

Rameshbhai earns his living from these performances. VSSM has often invited him at various events organised to showcase the skills and craft of the nomads. VSSM and Rameshbhai share a warm and friendly relationship.

“Ben, take care of my family after I am gone,” and he begins to cry uncontrollably. We were shocked at hear Ramesbhai say this over a call that took us by surprise. I consoled him, inquired what was the reason for this sudden outburst. His blood sugar level had skyrocketed. I spoke to his doctor to learn that his condition was critical. We helped him fight his medical condition. After almost yearlong treatment he was out of the woods to finally get back to performing acrobatic shows.

Over the years with other means of entertainment gaining popularity, these shows have lost their mass appeal. And the pandemic has made things worse for individuals like Rameshbhai.

VSSM has helped build a settlement for 143 nomadic families in Juna Deesa. Rameshbhai too has a house there. We also undertook a tree plantation drive in the settlement. VSSM was looking for an appropriate candidate to take up the responsibility of ‘Vruksh-Mitra’. Rameshbhai came across as perfect candidate, he agreed to take up the role of tree nurturer and began performing his role with utmost care. Rameshbhai has been so good with his work that the community has decided to plant 1000 trees on a plot in the settlement. The plantation will commence soon.

VSSM has been supporting artists like Rameshbhai earn a dignified living so when noted author and our very dear Sonalben Modi called up with this request “can you give me names of 5-6 folk artists who still earn their living through their art??  I wish to support such individuals!!’ we felt relieved.

We sent the details of 6 artists, including Rameshbhai. Sonalben has supported them all.

I performed to make people happy and bring cheer on their face when you made me Vruksh Mitra and when Sonalben chose to support me even without having met me, she brought cheer on my and my family’s face.

Sonalben we cannot thank you enough. It is our well-wishing friends like you who help us reach the poorest amongst the poor. We are grateful to the goodwill and support of all our well-wishing friends.

રમેશભાઈ નટ..

જૂના ડીસામાં રહે.. સમજણ આવી ત્યારથી દોરડા પર અંગકસરતના ખેલ કરવાનું એ કરે..

અમારા કીશનકાકા. નટ સમાજના આગેવાન એ કહે, 'બેન આપણો આ નટનો ખેલ તો જીવ સાટેનો ખેલ. સરકસવાળા કલા કરતબ બતાવે તો નીચે જાળી બાંધી પોતાનું રક્ષણ કરે. પણ નટનું રક્ષણ ખુદ ધરતી મા કરે..'

વાતેય સાચી. પણ  જીવ સાટેનો આ ખેલ  કરતા ઘણાય નટ દોર પરથી પડ્યાને જીવથી ગયા..

ખેલ કરીને જીવતા રમેશભાઈને ઘણી વખત સંસ્થાગત રીતે અમે ખેલ કરવા નિમંત્રણ આપતા તો ક્યાંક કાર્યક્રમ અપાવવામાં નિમિત્ત બનતા. ધીમે ધીમે એમની સાથેનો અમારો પરીચય ગાઢ થતો ગયો. એક દિવસ તો એમનો અચાનક ફોન આવ્યો ને, 'બેન મારા ગયા પછી મારા પરિવારને તમે સાચવજો..' એવું કહેતા કહેતા જ એમના ગળે ડૂમો ભરાયો ને એ વધુ ન બોલી શક્યા. મે હૈયાધારણા આપીને શું થયું તેવું પુછ્યું ત્યારે ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે, ડાયાબીટીશનું પ્રમાણ વધી ગયેલું ને હોસ્પીલટમાં એ દાખલ હતા. ડોક્ટર સાથે વાત કરતાં ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે, સ્થિતિ ખરેખર નાજુક થઈ ગઈ છે. એ પછી લગભગ એક વર્ષ અમે એમનું ધ્યાન રાખ્યું ને એ ફરી સાજા નરવા થઈને ખેલ કરતા થઈ ગયા.

પણ હવે આ ખેલ જોવા કોઈને ખાસ ગમતા નથી. આમ આવક ઘટી. કોરોનાની મહામારીમાં તો બધુ સાવ જ બંધ થયું. 

અમે જૂના ડીસામાં વિચરતી જાતિના 143 પરિવારોની વસાહત બનાવી છે. રમેશભાઈનું પણ ત્યાં સરસ ઘર બન્યું. આ વસાહતમાં અમે વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. જેના ઉછેરની જવાબદારી વૃક્ષ માટે મમતા હોય એવા કોઈને સોંપવાની હતી. 

રમેશભાઈની આર્થિક હાલત નાજૂક એમણે વૃક્ષમિત્ર તરીકે કામ કરવાનું સ્વીકાર્યુ ને બહુ પ્રેમપૂર્વક એમણે વૃક્ષોનું જતન કરવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. રમેશભાઈની આવી ચીવટ જોઈને અમે આ વસાહતની પાસેથી એક જગ્યામાં 1000 વૃક્ષ કરવાનું આયોજન કર્યું છે જે ટૂંક સમયમાં અમલી બનશે..

રમેશભાઈ જેવા કલાકારને જે રીતે થાય તે રીતે મદદ કરવાની અમે કોશીશ કરી રહ્યા હતા ત્યાં જાણીતા લેખીકા પ્રિય સોનલબહેન મોદીનો ફોન આવ્યો ને એમણે કહ્યું, 'મારે પોતાની કલા બતાવી રોજી રળતા કલાકારોને મદદ કરવી છે ને તમે પાંચેક કલાકારની વિગત આપો' 

અમે રમેશભાઈ સાથે અન્ય પાંચ એમ કુલ છ કલાકારોની વિગત મોકલી. સોનલબહેને આ છ વ્યક્તિઓને સારી મદદ કરી.

સોનલબહેનનો જેટલો આભાર માનીએ એટલો ઓછો.. રમેશભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'લોકોને હસાવવાનું કામ આખી જીંદગી કર્યું પણ ખરા ટાણે સંસ્થાએ વૃક્ષમિત્ર તરીકે રાખીને ને સોનલબહેને એક પણ વખત મળ્યા વગર મારી હાલત સમજી મને મદદ કરી મને હસતો કર્યો'

આભાર સોનલબહેન.. આપ જેવા પ્રિયજનોના લીધે જ અમે છેવાડે રહેતા તકલીફમાં હોય તેવા સૌને મદદ કરી શકીએ છીએ.. 

સૌનું શુભ થાવોની ભાવનામાં નિમિત્ત બનનાર સૌ સ્વજનોનો હૃદયપૂર્વક આભાર...

A meeting at Mehsana Collector Office

“The Almighty has given you a unique opportunity, that satisfaction this opportunity will provide if used to help the poor and needy will be second to none. Hence, let us work towards resolving the matters within a specific time frame…” the Mehsana  District Collector Shri H K Patel while addressing a meeting of officials,insisted on finding solutions instead of getting tangled in paperwork whilst responding to fundamental issues of nomadic and other marginalised communities.

Similarly, the Banaskantha Collector Shri Anand Patel too instructed the officials to finish the matters within the given time frame.

As did Additional District Collector of Deesa,  Shri Hirenbhai during a meeting he had summoned to instruct his officials to quickly resolve the housing, water, ration cards issues of the nomadic communities.

Both, the Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijaybhai Rupani and Pradesh Chief Shri C. R. Patil have put tremendous emphasis on ensuring that the primary benefits reach these poorest of the poor families.

“Let us know of the regions where the issues don’t get resolved, we will prioritise and get them solved,” respected Vijaybhai himself assured.

I am grateful for this thoughtfulness.

It is one of the greatest joy to be instrumental towards the welfare of these marginalised communities who still struggle to realise their basic needs.

'ઈશ્વરે તમને તક આપી છે.. અને આ ગરીબ માણસોનું કામ થશે ને તો એનો સંતોષ બીજા બધાય કામ કરતા વિશેષ હોવાનો... એટલે નિશ્ચિત સમયમર્યાદામાં કાર્ય પૂર્ણ કરવાનું આપણે કરીએ...'

ખાલી કાગળિયા નહીં પણ ઉકેલ લાવવાની નિસ્બત સાથે કાર્ય કરવાની વાત મહેસાણા કલેક્ટર શ્રી એચ કે પટેલે વિચરતી જાતિઓના પાયાના પ્રશ્નોના ઉકેલ સંદર્ભે આયોજીત બેઠકમાં ઉપસ્થિત તમામ અધિકારીગણ સાથે કરી.

સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું..

જે સંદર્ભે પ્રાંત કલેક્ટર ડીસા શ્રી હીરેનભાઈએ પણ પોતાના તાબા તળેના અધિકારી સાથે બેઠક કરીને આ વંચિત પરિવારોને ઘર, પીવાનું પાણી, રાશનકાર્ડ વગેરે મુદ્દાનો સત્વરે ઉકેલ લાવવા સૂચના આપી..

આપણા #મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી વિજયભાઈ રૃપાણી અને પ્રદેશ અધ્યક્ષ શ્રી સી. આર.પાટીલજી નો પણ આગ્રહ આ વંચિતો સુધી તમામ સુવિધા પહોંચે એવો. એમની આ  સજાગતાને પ્રણામ..

આદરણીય વિજયભાઈએ તો કહ્યું પણ ખરા, જ્યાં પ્રશ્નોનો ઉકેલ નથી આવતો મારુ ધ્યાન દોરો આપણે પ્રાથમિકતા આપીને એ કાર્યો પૂર્ણ કરાવીશું..

આપ સૌની આવી લાગણી માટે આભારી છું...

વંચિતોનું કલ્યાણ થાય એમાં નિમિત્ત બનવાનું સુખ મોટુ... આશા છે, આ પરિવારો જે પ્રાથમિક અધિકારો માટે ઝઝૂમે છે એ એમને સત્વરે મળે...

 Recently, I happen to meet Teji Maa in Radhanpur’s Lotiya village

“Maa, I hope the ration kits reach you on time??”

“Oh yes!! I have enough ration now. But ever since I have the dal-rice in my house, it has been difficult to sleep.”

I was surprised at this co-relation. Once we have food in the house,  we are usually relieved but this was a reverse statement of Teji Maa losing sleep because of the food she has in the house now.

“Why have you lost your sleep?” I asked with intrigue.

“These rats!! They pay me a daily visit in the calm of night. Now they too have food to bite. All the groceries – the dal and rice you give is stored in plastic bags, the rats love to bite into it all. That sound of kat-kat, kat-kat keeps me awake.  I have to get up and keep moving the bags, but rats are very good at finding it all. The moment I lie down they are back and begin biting kat-kat…!!”

This did make me laugh!! “So tell me what should we do to free you from this problem?”

“Bring me some containers that the rats cannot bite into, it will help me sleep well!!”

“We sure will bring you containers, Maa!! Anything else that is bothering you, do let us know!!”

“Nothing else, what more can I ask for. You all are taking such good care of me. I was helpless as I could not work to buy daily meals. Now I do not need to stretch my arms for food!!”

Later, Teji Maa took me to see her shanty.  One look at the place and I remembered my previous question if she has any other issues!!

“You don’t have a house!?”

“How long do I have to live now?”

Teji Maa widowed at a very young age, brothers brought her back to maternal home along with her small daughter. The daughter grew was married off but her economic condition remained weak too. Whenever she comes to meet Teji Maa,  she gives her 100-200 rupees.

“Brothers brought me home, provided shelter. They too have families to look after with their weak economic conditions. I cannot expect more from them. They have always helped me, but I had there was this expectation from my side. I now do not have to expect anything from anyone.”

VSSM team remains in search of such destitute elders. Shankarbhai has been taking very good care of Teji Maa. VSSM provides ration kits to such elderly through its Maavjat, an initiative that aims to care for the destitute elderly.

It was getting late, I asked for her permission to leave.

“Don’t forget the containers!” Teji Maa said with a right our parents or family elders would instruct us.

It made me happy.

To age is difficult,  that too when one is  poor and destitute! It sure is tough.

તેજીમાં ને રાધનપુર પાસેના લોટિયાગામમાં મળવા જવાનું થયું. 

મે પુછ્યું 'મા, રાશન સમયસર મળી જાય છે ને?'

'હોવ રાશન તો મલી જાય. પણ બળ્યું તમે આ ચોખા ન દાળ ન એ બધુ આલ્યુ તાણથી આખી રાત ઊંઘી હકતી નહીં'

સાંભળીને નવાઈ લાગી. અનાજ ઘરમાં ભર્યું હોય તો કોઈની ઓશિયાળી વેઠવાની ન થાય એની જગ્યાએ તેજી માની ઊંઘ કેમ હરામ થઈ ગઈ છે?

'કેમ ઊંધ નથી થતી?'

'બળ્યુ આ ઉંદેડા? તમે ચોખા ન બધુ આલ્યુ એ બધુ કોથળીઓમોં ભર્યું હ્. આખી રાત ઉંદેળા એ કોથળીઓ કટકટ કર્યા કર. અવાજ આવ એટલ ઊભી થઈન કોથળી ઉપાડીન્ બીજે મેલું. પાસી આડી પડુ ક પાસુ કટ કટ... '

સાંભળીને હું હસી.. મે કહ્યું, 'તો આ પળોજળમાંથી મુક્ત કરવા શું કરીએ ક્યો?'

'મન ડબ્બા અલાઈ દો..એટલ મન નિરોત. હખેથી ઊંધી તો હકુ..'

ડબ્બા પહોંચાડી દઈશું માં. એ સિવાય કોઈ તકલીફ..'

'ના બાપલા ના બધી વાતનું સુખ.. આવુ ધ્યોન કુણ રાખ? મજૂરી થતી નતી. ખાવા પીવાની ઘણી ઓશિયાળી હતી પણ હવ્ કોઈ હોમે હાથ લોબો નહીં કરવો પડતો'

એ પછી તેજીમાં એમનું છાપરુ જોવા લઈ ગયા.. છાપરુ જોઈને તેજી માને પુછેલો બીજી કોઈ તકલીફવાળો પ્રશ્ન યાદ આવ્યો, 

એમણે કેમ ન કહ્યું, ઘર નથી! મે પુછ્યું તો કહે, 

તેજી મા કહે, 'હવ ચેટલું જીબ્બાનું...'

એષણા મુક્ત... તેજી મા... 

નાની ઉંમરે વિધવા થયા. એક દિકરી સાથે પીયરિયા એમને સાસરીમાંથી તેડી લાવ્યા. દીકરી મોટી થઈ એના લગ્ન કરાવ્યા. પણ એય એનું માંડ પુરુ કરે. વારે તહેવારે દીકરી આવે ત્યારે સો બસો તેજી માને આપી જાય..

પીયરિયા માટે તેજીમાં કહે, 'ભઈઓ લઈ આયા, આશરો આપ્યો એ ઘણું. એય ઈમનો વસ્તાર લઈન બેઠા, ઈમનુંય મોડ હેડ તો મારો બોજો.. તોય એ બધા થોડી ઘણી મદદ કરતા. પણ હવ માર કોઈનીયે ઓશિયાળી નઈ..'

આવા વડિલોને શોધવાનું અમારી ટીમ કરે. અમારા કાર્યકર શંકરભાઈ તેજીમાનું સરસ ધ્યાન રાખે.. 

vssm થકી આવા વડીલોને  દર મહિને રાશનકીટ આપવામાં આવે. આ કાર્ય બહુ સાતા આપે..

લોટિયામાં અમને ઘણું મોડુ થ્યું મે કહ્યું, રજા લઉં મા? એમણે કહ્યું, હોવ પણ ડબ્બાનું તમે ભૂલતા નઈ.. આ વાક્ય એકદમ અધિકારભાવથી એમણે કહ્યું. 

સાંભળીને રાજીથવાયું..

ઘડપણ... એય પાછુ નોંધારા વ્યક્તિનું..

Mittal Patel visits tree plantation site of Geda village

The much respected and revered Shri Pandurangdada had undertaken the mammoth task of nurturing Trees as God through Vruksha Mandir/ the idea of seeing God resides in Nature and more so in Trees (Vruksha).

VSSM has also launched itself in the same direction.

The is a village called Geda in Banaskantha where pilgrims throng in huge numbers to worship Hanumandada, the resident deity. Just next to the temple is a Goushala. One needs to see for self and understand how well they care for the cows here.

VSSM in partnership with the patrons of Goushala,undertook a  tree plantation drive at a vacant plot adjacent to the Goushala. The volunteers at Goushala prepared the barbed wire fence for protecting the trees while the village made arrangements for drip-irrigation for the trees.

Unfortunate the long dry spell after plantation impaired some sapling from taking roots. The team approached us for new saplings.  Karshanbhai the Vruksha-Mitra was of the feeling that if he is appointed to look after a certain number of trees,  then that number should be complete. 

This year we have decided to award Rs. 51,000 to the Vruksha Mitra who manages to nurture and raise the maximum number of trees planted during this year. The award will be given at the end of the year. Subabhai, who volunteers at Geda Goushala was quick to respond, "this prize is ours for sure!!"

The well-wishing volunteers of Goushala have made a small pond near the area plantation has been carried out so that they can capture all the water that falls around Goushala.  It is a beautiful symbiotic facility the well-wishing individuals of Goushala have created. If each village of Banaskantha showed such proactiveness like Geda village, Banaskantha would be green once again. The tree-covered earth would compel the rain gods to bless them every year. We must create such favourable conditions, it is our duty to do so.

The groundwaters at most regions are depleting at an alarming rate, irrigation has not reached these regions yet. Let us remain diligent and continue our efforts, doing what is within our means.

દાદાની નિશ્રામાં બજરંગ ગૌશાળા ચાલે.. આ ગૌશાળાની ગાયો જોઈને ગાયની કેવી ચાકરી થાય એનો અંદાજ આવે..

ગૌશાળાની એક વિશાળ જગ્યામાં વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું આયોજન ગૌશાળા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સૌ પ્રિયજનોએ કર્યું અને અમે એમાં ભાગીદાર બન્યા.

ગૌશાળાએ જમીન ઉપરાંત તારની વાડ, ઝાડને પાણી આપવા માટે ટપક પદ્ધતિની વ્યવસ્થા ગામે ગોઠવી..

અમે 3000 વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા અને વૃક્ષમિત્ર જે વૃક્ષોને ઉછેરે, સાચવે એમને માસીક સેવક સહાય આપવાનું કરીએ... વચમાં વરસાદ પડ્યો ને થોડા વૃક્ષો બળ્યા તો એમણે સામે ચાલીને નવા માંગ્યા. મૂળ 3000 તો થવા જ જોઈએ એવી ભાવના વૃક્ષમિત્ર કરશનભાઈની..

અમે આ વર્ષે જે જગ્યાઓ પર વૃક્ષો કર્યા તેમાંથી વર્ષના અંતે જ્યાં સૌથી સારા વૃક્ષો થયા હશે તે વૃક્ષ મિત્રને તેમની મહેનત માટે 51,000નો પુરસ્કાર આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. ગેળાની ગૌશાળામાં સેવા આપતા સુબાભાઈએ આ સાંભળ્યું કે તુરત એમણે કહ્યું એ ઈનામ તો અમારુ જ..

વૃક્ષો જ્યાં ઉછેરી રહ્યા છે એ જગ્યા પર એક સુંદર નાનકડી તલાવડી પણ ગૌશાળા સાથે સંક્ળાયેલા સ્નેહીજનોએ કરી છે. પેલી કહેવત ગામનું પાણી ગામમાં ને સીમનું પાણી સીમમાં. એમ ગૌશાળાનું પાણી ગૌશાળાના આ તળાવમાં જાય..

એકદમ સુંદર અને સુઘડ વ્યવસ્થા ગૌશાળા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્નેહીજનોએ કરી છે.

વૃક્ષો માટે આટલો પ્રેમ દરેક ગામ દાખવે તો બનાસકાંઠો સુકો ન રહે..

વરસાદને પણ ધરતી મા પર પથરાયેલી લીલી ચાદર જોઈને વરસવા મજબૂર થવું પડે.. આ સ્થિતિ નિર્માણ થાય એ માટે સૌ કટીબદ્ધ થાય એ જરૃરી..

બાકી ઘણા વિસ્તારના તળ ખાલી થઈ રહ્યા છે.. અને કેનાલ ત્યાં પહોંચી નથી.. આમ આપણા હાથમાં જે છે એ કાર્ય થકી આપણી ધરતીને લીલુડી રાખવાનું કરીએ..

અમારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ, ઈશ્વરભાઈની સતત મહેનત અને દોડાદોડીના લીધે આ અભીયાન સફળ થઈ રહ્યુંછે..

 It was the winter of 2006, I was visiting this Fulvadi settlement in Radhanpur.  It was around 4 p.m.,  pretty early but the lady at one of the houses was already cooking dinner on the wood-fired stove outside her shanty.

“Isn’t it too early to cook dinner?” I remember to have inquired.

“We do not have electricity/light, it gets difficult once it gets dark!” she had responded.

 Thousands of families belonging to nomadic, de-notified and other marginal communities continue to live similarly even today.

The families exposed to the elements survived in tethered shanties.

 Recently, the support we received from  ‘Anybody Can Help’ enabled us to provide solar-powered lanterns to these families.

 Sonalben and Maharshibhai became instrumental in connecting us.

 Saraniayaa families living in Morbi, Trajpar, Jambudiya and Bhojpur and Devipujak families of Kamadiya received the  solar lamps.

 The ability to navigate through the evening after it gets dark has brought a significant shift in the quality of their life. VSSM is trying to assist these families in acquiring residential plots and build a house of their dreams. Hoping to accomplish this soon.  But until that happens,  we must try and ease the turmoil of everyday living for these families.

 Our team members Kanubhai and Chayaben are like family to these communities, always part of their trials and tribulations. It is an honour to have team members as committed and compassionate as them.

 A lot of us are blessed to have more than we could have asked or if we choose to share even little of our good fortune with those in need the world would be a better place.

 ‘Anybody Can Help’ we thank you in joining hands towards the efforts of making this world a better place.

રાધનપુરની ફુલવાદી વસાહતમાં શિયાળામાં જવાનું થયેલું.. લગભગ સાંજના ચારેક વાગે એક બહેન ચુલા પર રાંધી રહ્યા હતા. મે કહ્યું આટલા વહેલાં કેમ રાંધો છો? ત્યારે એમણે કહ્યું, અમારી પાસે લાઈટ ક્યાં છે?

2006ની આ વાત..

ઉપર આભ ને નીચે ધરતીના સહારે રહેતા આ પરિવારોમાંથી 65 પરિવારોને એની બડી કેન હેલ્પની મદદથી સોલાર લેમ્પ આપવાનું કર્યું..

સોનલબહેન અને મહર્ષીભાઈ આમાં કડી રૃપ બન્યા.

મોરબી, ત્રાજપર, જાંબુડિયા અને ભોજપરામાં રહેતા સરાણિયા અને કામળિયા દેવીપૂજક પરિવારોને લેમ્પ આપ્યા.

ઝૂંપડાંમાં રહેતા પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ બદલાય.. તેમને ઝડપથી રહેવા પ્લોટ અને ઘર મળે તે માટે VSSM દ્વારા અમે મથી રહ્યા છીએ. આશા છે એ કાર્ય ઝટ પતશે..

પણ ત્યાં સુધી એમની તકલીફો થોડી હળવી કરવા કોશીશ તો કરવી રહી...

અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન આ પરિવારોની વચમાં સ્વજનની જેમ ફરે. એમના સુખ દુઃખમાં સદાય સહભાગી બને.. તમારા જેવા કાર્યકર સાથે હોવાનું ગૌરવ છે..

ભગવાને કેટલાને ઘણું આપ્યું છે, આ આપેલામાંથી કેટલુંક જરૃરિયાત મંદોને વહેંચાય તો દુનિયાની સુંદરતા વધી જાય...

Nomadic families with their Antyoday Ration Card

Antyoday, which means uplifting the weakest sections of society. John Ruskin’s ‘Unto this Last’ was paraphrased by Gandhiji as ‘Sarvodaya’ meaning rising of all, both of which talk about reaching to the farthest sections of the society. It is an act that needs some definitive support, care and nurturing from the Government.

The communities VSSM works with the feature as poorest of the poor even on the government’s list. Often we try to rope in government support whereever and whenever there is an opportunity.

 A major credit of the accomplished works where ever there was government intervention goes to the proactive officials and authorities. Under the leadership of such officers, the works get done swiftly, without encountering much challenges.

 It would be apt to mention that our Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani and the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Ishwarbhai Parmar, many a times are the wind under the wings of these officials. They monitor and follow-up the pending issues, enabling the administrators to accomplish these tasks with ease.

 VSSM in all the districts it works continuously advocates for the need to issue Antyoday ration cards to the nomadic families who find it hard to earn two meals a day. Banaskantha’s Public Supplies department and it’s official Shri Chavda Saheb and Abhishekbhai are extremely compassionate officials. And it is here that we see prompt action on the applications.

As VSSM’s Naranbhai recalls, ‘It does come as a surprise but I would receive a call from Abhishekbhai (whom everyone addresses as Gohil Saheb) requesting us to draw their attention on any pending applications for issuance of Antyoday or any ration card.” There never is a need to draw their attention yet they never forget their responsibilities. As soon as an application reaches them the team under the guidance of District Collector promptly process it and issue a card within no time. Such swiftness does cheer us up. And it is not just the seniors but even the local administrators work with great care. 

 Recently Mamlatdar of Vav block Shri K. K. Thakor, Additional Mamlatdar Shri Ishwarsinh Barad and Suigaum’s Additional Mamlatdar Shri Pravindan Gadhvi insisted on visiting the nomadic settlements and personally hand over the ration cards to the Antyoday families. The officials handed over ration cards to 113 families of Suigaum, Bepan, Uchosan, Garambdi, Limbodi, Vav, Bukna, Madka, Dhima., Achuaa, Tithgaum etc.

During my innumerable dialogues with the government officials, I often tell them, “It is in your capacity to utilize the powers enshrined upon you, it is up to you to make the best use of it. It is when you step out of the comforts and confines of the office and engage with the people you work for will help you better understand their struggles and challenges. The ‘Saheb’ practice is British gift to us whereas our Kings and courtiers always roamed amidst their subjects and learn about their troubles and complaints first-hand. The reforms were designed basis of these understanding. Kings of the states of Gondal, Vadodara, Bhavnagar worked marvellously for the upliftment and progress of their subjects.

 A person might be rich, may have an outreach to lakhs of people, but he/she does not have the power to issue a Ration Card. That power is enshrined upon the officials. And it is upto the authorities and officials to see how they use the power that lies in their hands.  

Our team members Bhagwanbhai and Naranbhai, undergo great efforts to identify the correct families in need of support and bring them to the respective government offices.

પણ અધિકારી જ્યાં સારા હોય ત્યાં કશુંયે કહ્યા વગર કામો પોત મેળે કોઈ જ દલીલબાજી વગર થાય.. આવા તમામ અધિકારીગણને પ્રણામ...

મૂળ તો આપણા મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી તેમજ સામાજિક ન્યાય અને અધિકારીતા મંત્રી શ્રી ઈશ્વરભાઈ પરમારનું પીઠબળ પણ અધિકારીગણને. વળી પોતે ફોલોઅપ પણ લે.. આમ પ્રજાના સેવક જાગતા તો બધુયે જાગતું...

બનાસકાંઠાનો પૂરવઠા વિભાગ અને વિભાગના અધિકારી ચાવડાસાહેબ, અભીષેકભાઈ ખૂબ સંવેદનશીલ..

જેમને ને બે ટંકાના રોટલાને ક્યારેક ક્યારેક છેટુ થઈ જાય એવા પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય રાશનકાર્ડ આપવાની અમે દરેક જિલ્લામાં રજૂઆત કરીએ. પણ રજૂઆત પર ત્વરીત કાર્યવાહી બનાસકાંઠામાં દેખાય.. 

અભીષેકભાઈ જેમને સૌ ગોહીલભાઈ કહે એ તો ફોન કરીને અમારા કાર્યકર નારણને કહે, અમારા જિલ્લામાં રેશનકાર્ડ માટેની કોઈ અરજી પડતર રહી ગઈ હોય તો ધ્યાન દોરજો.. આમ તો ધ્યાન દોરવું જ ન પડે. જેવી અરજી જાય કે પૂરવઠા અધિકારી અને કલેક્ટર શ્રીની નિશ્રામાં તુરત એ અરજી પર કામ થાય ને લોકોને કાર્ડ મળી જાય.. 

કામ કરવાની આવી જીજ્ઞાષા રાજી થવાય. વળી આ જીજ્ઞાષા ખાલી ઉપલા સ્તરે નહીં. નીચેના સ્તરે પણ અધિકારીઓમાં જોવા મળે..

એટલે જ વાવ મામલતદાર શ્રી કે કે ઠાકોર તેમજ નાયબ મામલતદાર શ્રી ઈશ્વર સિંહ બરાડ અને સૂઈગામ નાયબ મામલતદાર શ્રી પ્રવિણદાન ગઢવી સામે ચાલીને અમારે આ અંત્યોદય પરિવારોની વચમાં આવવું છે એમ કહીને વિચરતી જાતિઓની વસાહતોમાં આવ્યા ને સૂઈગામ, બેણપ, ઉચોસણ,ગરાંબડી, લીંબોળી, વાવ, બુકણા, માડકા, ઢિમા, આછુઆ, તીથગામ વગેરે ગામોમાં રહેતા 113 પરિવારોને અંત્યોદય રાશનકાર્ડ પોતાના હસ્તે આપ્યા..

હું અધિકારીઓને કહેતી હોવું છું.. તમને મળેલી સત્તાનો સદઉપયોગ કરવાનું તમારા પોતાના હાથમાં છે.. ઓફીસમાંથી બહાર નીકળીને સામાન્ય પ્રજા પાસે જઈશું તો તેમની સ્થિતિ સારી રીતે સમજી શકીશું. સાહેબ વાળી પ્રથા તો અંગ્રેજોએ દીધેલી. બાકી આપણે ત્યાં તો રાજા અને તેના કર્મચારીઓ પ્રજાની વચમાં ફરતા રહેતા, એમના હાલચાલ જાણતા ને પરિસ્થિતિ સમજી મદદ કરતા. ગોંડલ, વડોદરા, ભાવનગર સ્ટેટને આવા રાજાઓ મળ્યા ને એટલે એ પ્રદેશે પ્રગતિ પણ કરી. 

કોઈ પણ વ્યક્તિ પાસે લાખો રૃપિયા હોય, એની પહોંચ લાખો લોકો સુધી હોય પણ એ વ્યક્તિના હાથમાં રેશનકાર્ડ કાઢી આપવાની સત્તા નથી. એ સત્તા અધિકારીના હાથમાં છે. બસ એ સત્તાનો ઉપયોગ કેમ કરવો એ અધિકારીએ જોવાનું છે..

અમારા કાર્યકર ભગવાનભાઈ અને નારણભાઈ ગામોમાંથી આ પરિવારોને શોધી તેમને કચેરી સુધી પહોંચાડવા જબરી મહેમત ઉઠાવે.. 

આવા સતકાર્યોમાં મદદરૃપ થનાર સૌ પ્રિયજનોને મારા હૃદયના પ્રણામ...

Chaampabhai and his wife Jamnaben Bawri reside in Rajkot’s Vavdi area in a tethered hut that you see in the image shared here. There is a belief in Gujarati that the cat moves her kittens to seven homes/confines (so that they remain safe from the predators). The cats do so to protect their young, the homeless nomadic and de-notified communities need to be on the constant move because they have no choice. 

Chaampabhai too has moved his shanty to many places, maybe more than any cat would. They are a family of five brothers but none had any identity proof. After coming into contact with VSSM, they were assisted by Kanubhai and Chayaben in obtaining various documents of identity. However, their aspiration has always been to settle down. 

Responding to VSSM’s repeated appeals to the government to provide residential plots to numerous such families in Rajkot, the Chief Minister allotted 116 plots, Chaampabhai and Jamanaben are super happy with this development. The happiness and peace one achieves at the hope of moving into a pucca, decent house radiates on their face.

The families have been allotted plots at Rajkot’s Rampara Beti. The families shared their imagination of how their houses should look-like. Shri Ujamshibhai Khondla, who has always been the expert whose technical advice we seek designed a cost-effective yet charming home to perfectly meet the needs of these families. The design is also sent to our very dear Shri Rashminbhai who shall further advise us on the details we might have missed. VSSM plans to support not just the design aspect of these houses but also the actual construction and if required will assist them with interest-free loans. All of it to enable them to build a house of their dreams. 

VSSM has also written to the government for water connection to the plots where construction shall soon commence. When the water is supplied by the government the families save on the cost they incur on buying water for construction. I happen to visit Ramparabeti recently, the families are planning to move to the allotted plots so that they can provide labour for the construction of their homes. 

I appeal for support towards the construction of these homes, we shall begin with 58 homes in the first phase of construction. 

The families are the first generation homeowners, none of their previous generations has ever lived in a pacca house. The construction of each house will cost approximately Rs. 2.20 lakhs each, the government assistance will be of Rs. 1.40 lakhs for each house while rest of the amount needs to be contributed by the families.

I have always said, helping these poorest of the poor families attain a life of dignity is true religion. When we proclaim to follow ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumba/The world is one family,’ there are these members of our family who need our support, our help. It is only when society supports us, we can continue to support these families. I request you to join hands in this mission.

ચાંપાભાઈ અને તેમના પત્ની જમનાબહેન બાવરી રાજકોટમાં વાવડી વિસ્તારમાં ફોટોમાં દેખાય એમ ઝૂંપ઼ડું બાંધીને રહે.  બિલાડી બચ્ચાને જન્મ આપે પછી બચ્ચાને લઈને સાત ઘર ફરે એવી માન્યતા આપણે ત્યાં પ્રચલિત. પણ બિલાડી તો સ્વેચ્છાએ સાત ઘર ફરે પણ ઘરવિહોણા વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારો તો વખાના માર્યા લબાચા લઈને રઝળ્યા કરે. 

ચાંપાભાઈએ પણ બિલાડી બદલે એના કરતા વધારે જગ્યા પોતાના ઝૂંપડાં માટે બદલી. પરિવારમાં પાંચ ભાઈ પણ આમાંના એકેય પાસે ઓળખનો આધાર નહીં. અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ, છાયાબહેનના સંપર્કમાં આવ્યા પછી ઓળખનો આધાર તો બન્યો પણ ઝંખના હતી કાયમી સરનામાંની - ઠરી ઠામ થવાની..

રાજકોટમાં આવી અસ્થાયી વ્યવસ્થા કરીને રહેતા ઘણા પરિવારોને  સરકાર પ્લોટ ફાળવે એ માટે અમે રજૂઆત કરી ને માનનીય મુખ્યમંત્ર શ્રીના હસ્તે 116 પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા. ચાંપાભાઈ ને જમનાબેન તો રાજી રાજી.. 

હવે ઝટ ઘરવાળા થાશુનો રાજીપો એમને મળી ત્યારે મોંઢા પર વર્તાયો. 

રાજકોટ પાસેના રામપરા બેટીમાં આ પરિવારોને જગ્યા ફાળવાઈ. અમે આ પરિવારોને પુછ્યું કેવું ઘર બાંધવું છે તો બધાએ પોતાની કલ્પના જણાવી એ પ્રમાણે અમારા કાર્યોમાં બાંધકામમાં તકનીકી સહાય કરતા, ખૂબ સેવાભાઈ ઊજમશીભાઈ ખોંદલાને વાત કરી. ને એમણે સરસ ડીઝાઈન આ પરિવારોને ગમે એવી તૈયાર કરી આપી. ડીઝાઈન અમારા રશ્મીનભાઈને મોકલીશું. એમની નજર બહુ ઝીણી અમે ન જોઈ શકીએ એ બધી ચીજ એ જોઈ શકે ને માર્ગદર્શન આપે..ટૂંકમાં ઘરની ડીઝાઈન સિવાય મકાન બાંધકામમાં સહાય પણ કરીશું ને થોડી ઘણી વગર વ્યાજે લોન પણ આપીશું. તાકી આ પરિવારો પોતાની કલ્પના મુજબનું સુંદર ઘર તૈયાર કરી શકે. 

જ્યાં ઘર બાંધવાનું છે તે જગ્યાએ પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા કરવા પણ સરકારમાં લખ્યું છે. જેથી પાણી વેચાતું લાવવું ન પડે ને બાંધકામનો ખર્ચ થોડો ઓછો આવે. રામપરાબેટીમાં ફાળવાયેલી જગ્યા જોવા જવાનું થયું. આ પરિવારો પણ છાપરાં બાંધીને રહેવા આવવાની ગોઠવણ કરી રહ્યા છે. જેથી ઘર બાંધકામમાં પોતે મજૂરી કરી શકે..

આ પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધકામમાં આપને મદદરૃપ થવા અપીલ કરુ છુ...શરૃઆતમાં 58 ઘરો બાંધીશું પછી આગળનું આયોજન.

આ સમુદાયની આ પહેલી પેઢી છે જે પોતાના પાકા ઘરમાં રહેવા જવાની. ઘર બાંધકામનો ખર્ચ અંદાજે રૃા.2.20 લાખ થવાનો. સરકારમાંથી 1.40 મળશે. બાકીની વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવવાની છે. આવા વંચિતોને મદદ કરવી એ ખરો માનવ ધર્મ એવું મારુ માનવું છે. 

વસુંદેવ કુટુંબકમઃ બોલીએ ત્યારે આપણા આ કુટુંબમાં આ પરિવારો પણ છે જેને આપણા ટેકાની જરૃર છે..   

અમે મદદ કરવાનું સમાજના ટેકાથી જ કરી શકીએ. આપને પણ આ કાર્યમાં સહભાગી થવા વિનંતી.

Mittal Patel visited devipujak families of Dahisrda village

 8 Devipujak families reside in Dahisrda village in Rajkot’s Paddhari in miserable living conditions. The jute and tarpaulin tucked together makeup as their house. VSSM’s Kanubhai and Chayaben visit them often once after they complained of functioning once the sun goes down. We provided them with solar lanterns along with helping them apply for power connection.

“We don’t need a power connection,” they declared when the officials paid a visit to their settlement.

“Why did you refuse?” we asked.

“What if our hands get stuck in the fan?” they opined. The fear of sustaining injury made them refuse electricity connection to their homes. 

“We can have a table-fan, the power connection you’ll bring light to your hut. The light will help in making the evenings safer and productive.” We explained.

“Oh yes, You are right!” Jagabhai realised his mistake of denying electricity connection.

The families are very naïve and gullible. At times they take up the making alcohol. The Sarpanch and revenue officer are eager to settle these families in the village, provide them with the best available location. But the precondition was that they take up legit means of earning a livelihood and give up all the illegal occupations. The community was worried about the future of the children of these families.

Jagabhai requested for some time and assured to give up unlawful occupations. We have also pledged our support to them.

VSSM has helped these families file applications for allotment of residential plots, but they would never turn up to procure the missing documents. Kanubhai and Chayaben also got tired of this negligent behaviour. I have always maintained that it is VSSM’s moral responsibility to support these families. The educated and informed will always find their way,  but these humans need hand-holding to navigate through the nitty-gritties of life, VSSM should be that person to walk them through.  

The Sarpanch and Revenue Officer of this village are  dedicated and enthusiastic. They requested these families to mend their ways and helped them with their proofs of income. The Sarpanch himself handed the documents to them.

Not all villages offer a red-carpet welcome the nomadic communities, but the Panchayat of Dahisarda is an exception we all need to applaud.  

We hope these families soon have a proper roof over their head, that they move to socially and legally acceptable livelihoods.

Kanubhai and Chayaben persevere tirelessly for the betterment of these families. May God give them strength. We couldn’t be prouder to have them with us.

રાજકોટના પડધરીના દહીસરડાગામમાં 8 વેડુ દેવીપૂજક પરિવારો રહે..

સ્થિતિ દયનીય.. કંતાનની આડાશો કરીને રહે.. અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ ને છાયાબહેન એમની પાસે અવાર નવાર જાય. એક વખતે અંધારામાં ઘણી તકલીફ પડે છે ની ફરિયાદ વસાહતના જગાભાઈએ કરી. સોલાર લાઈટ અમે આપી. સાથે વીજ કનેક્શન માટે અરજી પણ કરી.

વીજ કનેક્શન માટે અધિકારી તપાસમાં ગયા તો અમારે લાઈટ નથી જોઈતું એવું એમણે કહી દીધું, કારણ તપાસ્યું તો ખબર પડી કે અમારા ઝૂંપડામાં પંખો નાખીએ ને ક્યાંક હાથ બાથ આવી જાય તો?

અમે વસાહતમાં ગયા તે વખતે આ બાબતે વાત થઈ અમે કહ્યું, ઝીણી જાળી વાળો ટેબલ પંખો પણ લાવી શકાય ને વળી લાઈટમાં ખાલી પંખો ન હોય. બલ્બ પણ હોય. જેનાથી ઝૂંપડામાં ને બહાર રાતના અજવાળુ રહે..

વાત સાંભળી જગાભાઈ કાન પકડીને એ હાસુ કીધું એવું બોલ્યા. આવા હૃદયના ભોળા વ્યક્તિઓએ વખાના માર્યા ક્યાંક આડા રસ્તા લઈ લીધેલા. દારૃ પણ ગાળવાનું કરી લે.. તે ગામના સરપંચ ને તલાટીએ કહ્યું અમારે આમને ગામમાં સારામાં સારી જગ્યા દેવી છે. પણ આ દારૃને બીજુ બંધ કરે તો. મૂળ તો એમની ચિંતા એમના બાળકો ક્યાંક આ બધુ ન શીખે તેને લઈને હતી.

આખરે જગાભાઈએ કહ્યું એમને વખત આપો અમે બદલાશું. અમે પણ એ માટે જે જોઈએ એ મદદ માટે કહ્યું.

આ પરિવારોને રહેવા પ્લોટ મળે એ માટે કલેક્ટરને અરજી કરેલી પણ ખૂટતાં પુરાવા તેઓ કઢાવવા આવે જ નહીં. કનુભાઈ તો કહે બેન થાકી ગ્યો..

પણ હું હંમેશાં કહુ આ પરિવારોને મદદ કરવી એ આપણો ખરો ધર્મ. સમજે એની પાસે તો સૌ જાય પણ જે નાસમજ છે તેમની પાસે જઈને કાર્ય કરવું એ VSSMનું કામ.

ગામના સરપંચ અને તલાટી બેઉં બહુ ઉત્સાહી એમણે પણ આ પરિવારોને અમારી સાથે કદમ મિલાવવા કહ્યું ને બીજા દિવસે પંચાયતમાં બોલાવીને સૌને આવકના દાખલા સરપંચ શ્રીએ પોતાના હસ્તે આપી દીધા.

વિચરતી જાતિઓના વસવાટ માટે દરેક ગામ લાલ જાજમ પાથરીને તૈયાર નથી હોતું. ત્યારે દહીસરડાના આ પરિવારોને પંચાયત મદદ કરવા ઈચ્છે છે તે સરાહનીય..

બસ આ પરિવારો ઝટ પોતાના ઘરવાળા થાય.. અને સમાજને સ્વીકૃત હોય તેવા કાર્યોમાં લાગી જાય એવું ઈચ્છીએ..

કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેનને દાદ દેવી પડે.. થાક્યા વગર લાગ્યા છે.. ઈશ્વર એમને વધુ તાકાત આપે...
