She fought a tough battle and miraculously survived her ailment.

Purvi and her parents live in Rajkot. Few months ago, a little short of her 7th birthday, Purvi fell ill and the condition did not improve. Manojbhai, her father too her to many local clinics but to no respite. The clinics could not diagnose her condition. Finally, a doctor in Chotila tells them that Purvi has a hole in her heart and treatment would cost a fortune at any private hospital.

Manojbhai was confused on further course of action. VSSM’s Kanubhai learnt about the situation and advised Manojbhai to proceed to Ahmedabad’s UN Mehta Cardiology Institute.

“How will I find my way through Ahmedabad and the hospital!”

Kanubhai assured that Kiranbhai will be there to take care of him through the treatment once he reaches Ahmedabad with Purvi.

There were a few hiccups due to sheer volume of patients, but Purvi had a successful surgery.

Manojbhai and Purvi were at our office to meet us all after discharge from the hospital. Purvi is a charmer, her father’s daughter. I asked her to stay back at the hostel, “I cannot live without my father!” she was quick to reply.

“I will send her here after she is a little older. Education will make her life better.” Manojbhai replied.

He thanked Kiran and Kanubhai for their support and guidance.

“In absence of the guidance I received, I would be deep into debt!” Manojbhhai tells me before leaving.

નામ એનું પૂર્વી..

દવાખાનામાંથી લાંબો જંગ જીતી એ આબાદ બહાર આવી.

રાજકોટમાં રહેતા મનોજભાઈની એ દીકરી. સાત વર્ષની એ હમણાં થઈ પણ થોડા મહિના પહેલાં અચાનક બિમાર પડી ને માંદગી લાંબી ચાલી. સ્થાનીક દવાખાના ઘણા ફર્યા પણ નિદાન ન થયું.

આખરે ચોટીલાના એક ડોક્ટરે કહ્યું કે પૂર્વીના હૃદયમાં કાણુ છે. જેની સારવાર માટે ખાનગી દવાખાનામાં મસમોટો ખર્ચ થાય.

શું કરવું? મનોજભાઈને મૂંઝવે. અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈને આ ખ્યાલ આવ્યો ને એમણે મનોજભાઈને અમદાવાદ યુ.એન.મહેતા હોસ્પીટલમાંં જવા કહ્યું. 

'પણ કનુભાઈ અમદાવાદમાં અમને આ બધુ જડે નહીં...'

મનોજભાઈને દિલાસાની સાથે સિવીલ હોસ્પીટલમાં પહોંચશો તો મદદ માટે મારા જેવો જ કિરણ તૈયાર હશેનું કનુભાઈએ કહ્યું ને મનોજભાઈ પહોંચી આવ્યા અમદાવાદ.

થોડા ધક્કા થયા મૂળ દર્દીઓ વધારે પણ આખરે પૂર્વીનું ઓપરેશન સફળતાપૂર્વક થયું.

આજે એ પૂર્વીને લઈને ખાસ મળવા આવ્યા. પૂર્વી એકદમ મીઠડી. સફરજન આપ્યું તો કહે, મને ના ભાવે. પપ્પાની એ વહાલુડી દીકરી. મે એને અમદાવાદ ભણવા રહીજાનું કહ્યું તો હસીને કહે, 'પપ્પા વગર મને નો હોરવે...'

પણ મનોજભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'બેન થોડી મોટી થાય પછી અહીંયા જ મુકી દઈશ. ભણશે તો જીંદગી સુધરશે...'

કિરણ અને કનુભાઈનો એમણે ઘણો આભાર માન્યો. 

'સાચુ માર્ગદર્શન મળ્યું નકર દેવામાં ડુબી ગ્યો હોત બેન..' એવું એમણે જતા જતા કહ્યું...

“She went away, leaving me alone,” having lost his wife just 15 days ago, Ashok kaka was in tears as he uttered these words. Kaka lives in Surendranagar and sold datan to make a living. But as age progressed, both Kaka and Kaki’s health deteriorated. They could not go out for work. The neighbours would help as much as possible, but that could not be an everyday affair. Also, neighbours are not family; they cannot care how a family does. Kaka-kaki depended on each other, and Kaki’s demise had left Kaka mentally broken. 

Surendranagar’s Shivakaka and Nanuma shared similar plight. They have no children of their own, and despite financial constraints, their nephew does help in whichever way he can. Kaka-kaki are aware of his financial limitations, so they try to sustain themselves on the ratio they get through their ration card. 

VSSM’s Harshadbhai’s compassionate and persistent efforts identified these elderly individuals. 

“We do not like to extend our hands, but we are helpless. The ration you provide us is a great help.” Shivakaka and Ashokkaka told me when I had met them recently. 

VSSM has been a support to numerous such elderly. Many of our well-wishers have adopted these elderly, the reason we can continue extending help to the ones in need. Today there are 205 elderly who receive monthly ration kits from VSSM. Usually, parents are our caretakers, but with these elderly, society needs to step up and take up the role of caretakers.  એ તો જતી રઈ.હું એકલો થઈ ગ્યો, આટલું કહેતા સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રહેતા અશોકકાકા રડી પડ્યા

એમના પત્નીનું દેહાંત 15 દિવસ પહેલાં થયું. કાકા સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં દાતણ વેચતા. પણ ઉંમર થતા કાકા કાકી બેયની તબીયત નરમગરમ રહેવા માંડી.

કામ બંધ થયું. પડોશીઓ શક્ય સાચવવા કોશીશ કરે પણ કાયમ સાચવવું મુશ્કેલ વળી  પરિવારમાં સાચવી શકે તેવું કોઈ નહીં. કાકા કાકીને એકબીજાનો સહારો હતો પણ કાકી જતા કાકા મનથી ભાંગી પડ્યા. 

આવા જ નોંધારા શીવાકાકા ને નાનુમા. એય સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રહે. તેમને સંતાન નહીં તેમનો ભત્રીજો તેમને શક્ય મદદ કરે. મૂળ એ ભાઈએ કલરકામ કરી પેટિયું રળે.  કાકા કાકીને સાચવવાની એ ના ન પાડે પણ એમનીય સ્થિતિયે ઠીક. કાકા ને કાકી બેઉ રેશનકાર્ડ પર મળતા અનાજ પર નભવા કોશીશ કરે. 

આ બેઉને અમારા હર્ષદે ખોળી કાઢ્યા. મૂળ એય લાગણીવાળો ને આ બધા કાર્યોમાં પાછો સતત લાગેલો રહે. 

અશોકકાકા ને શીવાકાકાને મળવાનું થયું ત્યારે એમણે કહ્યું, તમે રાશનની મદદ કરી શકો તો સારુ. માંગવું ગમે નહીં પણ શું કરીએ...

અમે આવા નોંધારા માવતરોનો આધાર બનવાની કોશીશ કરીએ. આવા માવતરોને ઘણા પ્રિયજનોએ દત્તક લીધા છે ને એટલે આ કાર્યો થઈ શકે છે.. માવતરોની સંખ્યા 205 ઉપર પહોંચી.. જેમને દર મહિને અમે રાશનકીટ આપીએ... 

આમ તો મા-બાપ પાલક હોય પણ અહીંયા સમાજે એમના પાલક બનવું રહ્યું....

Recently I had the opportunity to meet individuals belonging to the Katholi community in Dadra Nagar Haveli. The community members lead an itinerant lifestyle and migrate in search of livelihood. Most of them work in brick kilns or engage in mud excavation work. There were around 200 families in 5 villages. Of course, the community faces similar challenges all migrant communities face, including a lack of education among their children.  

We had an extensive discussion with the Administrator of Diu, and Dadra Nagar Haveli respected Shri Prafulbbhai Patel and Secretary Shri Puja Jain regarding the welfare of Dhodiya and Mahyavanshi (Vankar) communities of the region. 

Shir Prafulbhai ensured that some recommendations would be implemented with immediate effect. 

We will be sharing the recommendations in writing to the administration and the Central Government. 

Working as a Board member is an experience in itself. I am grateful to Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi for entrusting me with this responsibility. 

દાદરના નગર હવેલીમાં રહેતા કાથોડી સમાજના લોકોને મળવાનું થયું. આમ થોડું ઘણું જીવન વિચરતી જાતિ જેવું. ખાડા ખોદવાનું ને ઈંટોના ભઠ્ઠામાં એ લોકો કામ કરે. લગભગ પાંચેક ગામમાં એમના 200 જેટલા ખોરડાની વસતિ. સ્થળાંતર પણ ખરુ. શિક્ષણનું પ્રમાણ ઓછુ ને અન્ય સ્થિતિ પણ ઠીક.

દીવ દમણ અને દાદરા નગર હવેલીના Administrator આદરણીય શ્રી પ્રફુલભાઈ પટેલ તેમજ સેક્રેટરી શ્રી પુજા જૈન સાથે પણ ત્યાં રહેતા ધોડિયા અને માહ્યાવંશી (વણકર) સમુદાયોના કલ્યાણ અર્થે વધારે સારુ શું થઈ શકે તે અંગે વિસ્તારથી વાત થઈ.

આદરણીય પ્રફુલભાઈએ તો કેટલીક ચીજોનું અમલીકરણ તેઓ તત્કાલ કરાવશેનું કહ્યું.. 

સૂચનો લેખિતમાં ત્યાં ને ભારત સરકારને પણ આપીશું...

બોર્ડના સદસ્ય તરીકે કામ કરવાનો એક નોખો જ અનુભવ છે.

પ્રધાનમંત્રી શ્રી નરેન્દ્રભાઈ મોદીનો ઘણો આભાર તેમણે મારા પર ભરોષો મુકી આ જવાબદારી સોંપી.

"Life is peaceful now," Hirabhai Bawri from Ahmedabad's Ramdevnagar shares.

In 2017 Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation - AMC identified 44 families whose kaccha homes on the roadsides hindered the commuters. AMC decided to provide them with houses at a different location.

There was also a talk about the allotment of houses at Sarkari Awas at Vejalpur, but each family had to contribute Rs. 67000. The economic condition of these families is deplorable; hence contributing the mentioned amount was challenging.

VSSM wrote to Shri Ishwarbhai Parmar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, about these families' conditions. Today, the government allotted houses to 30 families whose applications for housing assistance had been filed. We have appealed for the remaining 14 families and requested the Developing Communities Welfare Board to expedite the aid to these families. The 30 families received official allotment letters from the government. We are grateful to the government and AMC for their sensitive approach. Sixty-seven other families in Ramdevnagar reside in shanties; we have requested the officials also to allot them houses.

We especially thank US-based Shri Kiritbhai Shah, Shri Dodeja Foundation and Jewelex Foundation for their support to enable us to sustain our Human Rights team; it is the reason the team remains perseverant in their efforts.

VSSM's Madhuben remains dedicated to the cause of nomadic families in Ramdevnagar, and elsewhere in Ahmedabad; it is an honour to have a teammate as dedicated as her.

જીવને હવે નિરાંત થઈ... 

એવું અમદાવાદના રામદેવનગરમાં રહેતા હીરાભાઈ બાવરીએ કહ્યું. મૂળ તેઓ રસ્તાની બાજુમાં કાચા મકાન બનાવી રહેતા. જેના લીધે રાહદારીઓને તકલીફ થતી. 

કોર્પોરેશને 2017માં 44 પરિવારોને શોધી તેમને ઘર આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. અલબત વેજલપુરમાં સરકાર દ્વારા બનાવેલા આવાસ આપવાની વાત પણ નક્કી થઈ ગઈ. પણ પ્રશ્ન મકાન મેળવવા લાભાર્થીએ 67000 જેટલો લાભાર્થી ફાળો ભરવાનો હતો. આ પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ એક સાંધે ત્યાં તેર તૂટે એવી. ક્યાંથી આટલા પૈસા લાવવા?

અમે મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી તેમજ સામાજિક ન્યાય અને અધિકારીતા મંત્રી શ્રી ઈશ્વરભાઈ પરમારને રજૂઆત કરી અને સરકારે 30 પરિવારો કે જેઓની મકાન સહાય મેળવવા અરજી કરી દીધી હતી તેમને રકમ મળી ગઈ ને કોર્પોરેશન દ્વારા આ 30 પરિવારોને આજે મકાન ફાળવ્યા. 

44માંથી બાકી રહેતા 14 પરિવારોની અરજી કરી છે. વિકસતી જાતિ કલ્યાણ ખાતુ એમને પણ ઝડપથી સહાય આપે તે માટે લખ્યું છે. 

આજે કોર્પોરેશન દ્વારા 30 પરિવારોને ઘર ફળવાયાનો વિધિસર પત્ર - દસ્તાવેજ સુપ્રત થયો. સરકાર અને કોર્પોરેશનનો આભાર એમની લાગણીથી આ શક્ય બન્યું. 

સાથે રામદેવનગરમાં હજુ 67 પરિવારો છે જેઓ છાપરાંમાં ને રોડ પાસે રહે છે તેમને પણ ઝટ ઘર આપવા વિનંતી...

Mittal Patel meets Jethi Ma 

"If God asked to grant you one wish, what would it be?" I asked Jethi Ma.

"I would seek his forgiveness. I would tell him that you did give me this life but I have not been able to be true to it. I haven’t fed anyone or donated even a fistful of food. Please forgive me!

Jethi Ma’s honest expression evoked respect for her.

A resident of Surendranagar’s Dudhrej, Jethi Ma has no one to look after her, she survives on ration and elderly pension she receives from the government. However, the ration and the pension aren’t enough to sustain her through the month hence, she is required to beg. After VSSM learnt about her condition we began sending her a monthly ratiion kit.

I was in Surendranagar recently and decided to meet Jethi Ma, she gave me a warm welcome into her shanty.

“Is the ration enough, Jethi Ma?”

“No, I am just left with chana dal.”

“We provide ration kits to 200 elderly, no one has ever complained of the ration being insufficient. How come  ration in your kit finishes within 15 days?”

Jethi Ma promptly replies, “No, this doesn’t happen every month. This year my brother is here....”

This explained who was the one sleeping on a charpoy under the acacia tree near Jethi Ma’s house.

“He is mentally challenged and loiters around a park in Surendranagar.  I have brought him home for few days  as he has been unwell for a while.

Jethi Ma must be 80 years old, her fingers bending inwards, two of her toes have withered away and yet she has brought her brother home to look after. She won my heart and respect.

Jethi Ma had no place to call home, consequent to our appeal a flat was allotted to her, but the flat was on the 4th floor. “I am 80, how can I climb 4 stories every day? Can you please ask them to shift me to ground floor?”

“I will put a to the government,” I assurance brought her some relief.

I inquired why was she single, why didn’t she marry?

“I was married, but my husband abusive. I did not want to remarry.  I have considered God as my lord as he is the one who looks after all of us. I have spent my life taking care of my parents, I became their Shravan. I took them to Haridwar for pilgrimage. I also performed their last rites.”

Jethi MA came across as a very progressive and wise  individual.

“I am sure God will immediately forgive you Jethi Ma, you have a gathered a lot of good karma.” I tell her.

Jethi Ma smiled but she also talked about a lot of things that were unnerving, narrative that teared me a few times.

After spending substantial  time with Jethi Ma we took her leave. I asked Harshad to  bring her one more ration kit.

Harshad has been excellent with his responsibility of taking care of the elders of Surendranagar. He was prompt on delivering  the ration kit on the next day.

We are grateful to our friends and well-wishers who enable us provide care to destitute elders like Jethi Ma.

'ભગવાન કે જેઠીમાં તમને શું જોઈએ? તો તમે શું માંગો?'

'હું ભગવાનની માફી માંગુ. એને કહું કે આ મનખો તે આપ્યો પણ મારાથી કોઈ દાન ધરમ નથી થયું. મેં કોઈને એક મુઠ્ઠી ધાનેય નથી આપ્યું તે મારો ગુનો માફ કરજો..'

જેઠીમાના મોંઢે આ શબ્દો સાંભળી તેમને વંદન થઈ જ જાય. 

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના દૂધરેજમાં રહેતા જેઠીમાની ચાકરી કરવાવાળુ કોઈ નહીં. રેશનકાર્ડ પર મળતા અનાજ ને વૃદ્ધ પેન્શન પર એ નભે. પણ એમાં કાંઈ પુરુ ન થાય તે ભીખ માંગી આવે. 

અમને સ્થિતિનો ખ્યાલ આવ્યો ને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું.હમણાં સુરેન્દ્રનગર જવાનું થયું તે જેઠીમાને મળવા ખાસ ગઈ. એમણે મીઠો આવકાર આપી પોતાના છાપરાંમાં બેસાડ્યા. 

'જેઠી મા રાશન ચાલી જાય છે?'

'ના જુઓન ખાલી ચણાની દાળ વધી છે એવું એમણે કહ્યું. અમે 200 માવતરોને રાશન આપીએ પણ ખુટ્યાની ફરિયાદ કોઈની નથી આવી. તમારુ આમ પંદર દિવસમાં ખતમ થઈ જાય...'

મારુ વાક્ય પૂર્ણ થાય એ પહેલાં જ એમણે કહ્યું, 

'ના ના દર વખતે ખૂટતુ નથી. આતો મારો ભાઈ આવ્યો છે ને એટલે...' હવે જેઠીમાના છાપરાં બહાર બાવળની નીચે ચાદર પાથરી માથે ઓઢીને સૂતેલું કોણ એ પ્રશ્નનો જવાબ મળ્યો. 

જેઠી મા કહે, 'એનું મગજ નહીં. સુનગર બગીચામાં એ પડ્યો રેતો પણ હમણાં એ બિમાર ઘણો થ્યો એટલે એને અહીંયા લઈ આવી'

જેઠી માની ઉંમર 80 આસપાસ હશે હાથની આંગળીઓ વળી ગઈ છે. પગની બે આંગળીઓ ખરી પડી છે આવા જેઠી મા ભાઈની ચાકરી કરે...

સાંભળીને એમના પ્રત્યે માન થયું.. 

જેઠી મા પાસે રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા નહીં તે અમે રજૂઆત કરેલી ને એમને ફ્લેટમાં ઘર મળ્યું. પણ ઘર ચોથા માળે મળ્યું તે મને કહે, 'મુ એંસી વરસે આ ચડ ઉતર ચમની કરુ... તે નીચે ફ્લેટ મળે એવું કરાઈ આપો ન....'

મે સરકારમાં લખીશ એવું કહ્યું, સાંભળીને એમના જીવને રાહત થઈ... 

જેઠીમા એકલા જ હતા એમણે લગ્ન કેમ ન કર્યા તે પ્રશ્ન મે એમને પુછ્યો જવાબમાં એમણે કહ્યું, 

'લગન તો કર્યાતા પણ ધણી ખરાબ નીકળ્યો. બીજા લગ્ન કરવાનું મન ના થયું. આમ જુઓ તો આપણા બધાનો ધણી ઉપરવાળો. તે મે એને ધણી માન્યો... અને મનખો મારા મા-બાપની સેવામાં કાઢ્યો. હું એમની શ્રવણ બની... એમને હરદ્વારની જાત્રા કરાવી. એ મર્યા તો મે એમને દાગ પણ દીધો.. '

જેઠી માની સમજણ આધ્યાત્મની દૃષ્ટિએ ઊંચી હતી પણ એ પ્રગતિશીલ પણ જણાયા. મે એમને કહ્યું, જેઠી મા ભગવાનની તમે માફી માંગશો તો ભગવાન તુરત માફ કરી દેશે કેમ કે તમે ભાથુ ઘણું ભેગું કર્યું છે... 

સાંભળીને એ હસ્યા. પણ જેઠીમાએ ઘણી વાતો કહી જે સાંભળીને રૃવાડા ઊભા થઈ જાય તો વચમાં આંખો પણ ભીની થઈ જાય..

ઘણું બેઠા પછી અમે નીકળ્યા ને અમારા હર્ષદને બીજી એક રાશનકીટ આપી દેવા કહ્યું. હર્ષદ થકી જ સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં આવા પરિવારો ધ્યાનમાં આવે.. એ પણ આ માવતરોનું બરાબર ધ્યાન રાખે. તે બીજા દિવસે જઈને એ કીટ આપી પણ આવ્યો...

જેઠી મા જેવા માવતરોને સાચવવા મદદ કરનાર સૌ પ્રિયજનનો આભાર..

We planted 4500 trees at Surana’s crematorium. Henceforth, I will not mention ‘with the pledge to raise’ because planting and raising are woven together; it cannot be any other way.

Chandubhai has been appointed as the Vriksha Mitra. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I said both Chandu and his wife toil through the day to ensure that the trees are well looked after. Whenever we are in the area and go to meet the trees,  Chandu would be found quietly working with them, replaying only to the questions asked. 

We are raising trees at 52 sites and I have visited all of them after the monsoon. I was required to tell the Vriksha Mitra at all the sites to keep the sites clean but not to Chandubhai. He had already ensured the sites he maintained were clean. The two sites he nurtures aren’t compact. The crematorium has 3000 trees growing while the school site has 1500 trees. Of course, Chandu has the support of the villagers.

The trees at both these sites are being raised with support from Rosy Blue Diamonds (Pvt) Ltd.

This year we have decided to raise 1.5 lac trees but managed only 1.3 lac trees. Next year we plan to increase the number to 3.5 lac trees. We hope the village leadership are prepared to spare land in their villages and facilitate such woodlands. Their participation and contribution will also ensure we succeed in establishing more ‘Tree-Temples’

સુરાણાગામના સ્મશાનમાં અને ગામની નિશાળામાં અમે 4500 વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. હવે ઉછેરવાના સંકલ્પ સાથે એવું નહીં લખું.. ઉછેરવાનું તો એની સાથે વણાયેલું જ છે. 

આ વૃક્ષોને સાચવવા અમે વૃક્ષમિત્ર તરીકે ભાઈ ચંદુને રાખ્યો. તેની પત્ની અને તે રીતસર કાળી મજૂરી કરે એમ કહેવું કાંઈ ખોટું નથી.

જ્યારે પણ વૃક્ષોને મળવા જવું ત્યારે ચંદુ સ્મશાનમાં કામ કરતો જ હોય એય ચુપચાપ. પુછુ એટલાનો જ જવાબ આપે. 

અમે કુલ 52 સાઈટ પર વૃક્ષો ઉછેરી રહ્યા છીએ.. ચોમાસા પછી આ બધી સાઈટની મુલાકાતે ગઈ તે બધી સાઈટ પર સફાઈ કરવા વૃક્ષમિત્રોને કહેવું પડ્યું. પણ સુરાણામાં ચંદુને આ બાબતે કોઈ જ ટકોર કરવી ન પડી. એણે પોતાની રીતે સફાઈ શરૃ કરી દીધેલી. વળી સ્મશાનની સાઈટ કાંઈ નાની નહીં એમાં ત્રણ હજાર વૃક્ષો ઉછરે...ને નિશાળામાં 1500..

ચંદુને ગામનો સહકાર તો હોય જ...

VSSM ને આ બેય સાઈટમાં વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવા મદદ કરી. રોઝી બ્લુ ડાયમન્ડસ (ઈન્ડિયા) પ્રા.લી. 

આ વર્ષે 1.5 લાખ વૃક્ષો ઉછેરવાનો નિર્ધાર હતો પણ 1.30 સુધી જ અમે પહોંચી શક્યા.. આવતા વર્ષે 3.5 લાખ ઉછેરવાનો સંકલ્પ છે એ માટે ગામો સજ્જ થાય ને પોતાની ગામની જગ્યાઓ આપે. સાથે ભાગીદારી નોંધાવવા તૈયારી પણ દાખવે તો જ વધારે વૃક્ષમંદિરો સ્થાપી શકીશું...

સુરાણામાં વૃક્ષમંદિરો ઊભા થાય તે માટે મદદ કરનાર ગ્રામજનો, વનવિભાગ અને રોઝી બ્લુનો ઘણો આભાર ને વિશેષ આભાર ચંદુને તેની પત્નીનો કે જે મન લગાવી વૃક્ષોનું જતન કરી રહ્યા છે...

 ‘Kaka, who looks after you? We ask because you do not have children?”

“This old woman begs and brings some food whenever she is in the village rest; I have government ration and pension to fall back on.”

“What when Soniba is unwell?”

“Nothing, we go hungry on such days!’

How can someone survive in such poor living conditions? The reply angsts me.  

Dhudakaka and Soni Ma reside in Kankrej’s Ratanpur. The couple does not have children, while Dhudakaka has been confined to bed for almost 30 years with a leg ailment. Soni Ma continues to take good care of Dhudakaka but now both, her eyesight and physical strength have weakened considerably. 

Their warm and loving relationship reminded me of Shri Suresh Dalal’s poem ‘ek dosi, dosa ne haji vahal kare che!’

“Whatever you can do!” Kaka responded to my question on how could we help them.

“We will send you a ration kit every month, manage medical and other expenses from your pension and let us know if you run short of money. 

Soni Ma responded in a meek ‘ok’, but her face revealed her happy heart. 

Currently, VSSM provides monthly ration to 195 destitute elderly through its Mavjat initiative. It is challenging to undertake such activity without the support of our well-wishers. 'પણ સોનીમા બીમાર પડે ત્યારે'

'ત્યારે શું પડ્યા રહેવાનું!'

સાંભળીને કમાકમા આવી ગયા આવી સ્થિતિમાં કોઈને જીવવું પડે એ વાત વિચારવી જ અઘરી..

મૂળ કાંકરેજના #રતનપુરામાં ધુળાકાકા ને સોનીમા રહે. નિસંતાન દંપતી. ધુળાકાકાએ તો ત્રીસ વર્ષથી ખાટલો પકડ્યો છે.. પગમાં જબરી તકલીફ થઈ છે તે ઘુળીમાં જ એમને સાચવે. આંખે બરાબર ભળાતુ નથી, શરીર થાક્યુ છે છતાં એ કાકાને સરસ સાચવે..

બેઉને જોઈને સુરેશ દલાલ લીખીત કમાલ કરે છે, એક ડોસી ડોસાને હજી વ્હાલ કરે છે..!  કવિતા યાદ આવી જાય.

એમને મળીને ઉઠતા અમે શું મદદ કરીએ એવું પુછ્યું તો એમણે કહ્યું, 'તમને યોગ લાગે એ...'

અમે કહ્યું દર મહિને તમારા બેઉને ચાલે એટલું રાશન આપીશું. વૃદ્ધ પેન્શન મળે એમાંથી ચા પાણી દવાના ખર્ચ કાઢજો ને છતાં ખૂટે તો કહેજો...

ઘૂળી મા જવાબમાં સારુ એટલું જ બોલ્યા પણ એમના મોંઢા પર રાજીપો વર્તાતો હતો...

આવા #નિરાધાર માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું અમે કરી રહ્યા છીએ.. આવા માવતરોને દત્તક લેવાનું પણ કરી શકાય... હાલ તો 195 માવતરોને સાચવવાનું કરી રહ્યા છીએ..

પણ આ કાર્ય સમાજના સહયોગ વગર શક્ય નથી. મદદ કરનાર સૌ પ્રિયજનોનો આભાર ને આપની આસપાસ રહેતા કોઈ આવા માવતરોને દત્તક લેવાની ખેવાના રાખે તો 9099936013 અથવા 9099936019 પર સંપર્ક કરવા વિનંતી..

VSSM offered moral and economic support to help Balubhai overcome the financial crunch...

Somibahen, whom we know through her son Balubhai.

Balubhai is an enthusiastic and self-motivated young man, always eager to volunteer with VSSM whenever some need emerges. His father who made living through weaving cane baskets not only educated Balubhai but also instilled important life lessons in him.

Balubhai set up an independent printing press but couldn’t expand the business due to a lack of funds. He knew about VSSM’s interest-free loan program but hesitated to take the organisation’s money. “One has to give to an organisation, not take from it!” his intentions were noble as our good old Devabhai’s. 

Balubhai would take the initiative and would walk along  VSSM whenever it needed community volunteers hence,  we knew the challenges he faced in expanding his business. We convinced him to take VSSM’s support, which he did and eventually expanded his business.

Balubhai's family lives in a kuccha house, but he is saving up for a pucca house he dreams to move into. “I will build the house from the money I earn, I do not wish to build one on borrowed funds,” Balubhai believed.

While we fought the first wave of the pandemic, Balubhai’s father succumbed to brief illness and the entire family was infected during the second wave. Somibahen was also infected and faced breathing issues. They could not find her a bed in any government hospital hence was admitted to a private hospital. Somibahen’s recovery took longer than expected, her stay in the hospital was prolonged and the medical bills mounted. Balubhai did not think twice about incurring expenses on his mother’s treatment. VSSM learnt about his condition and offered moral and economic support to help Balubhai overcome the financial crunch. With financial aid from our dear Krishnakant Mehta uncle and Dr Indira Mehta auntie, we extended support to Balubhai and prayers helped Somiben recover well.

When Balubhai learnt that we were going to pass by their Dangiya village in Banaskantha,  they insisted we visit them. We stopped by and relished a good cup of tea. “Your support provided strength to push me to recover well,” Somibahen mentioned. Everything is destined, the ones who had to help you did so, we just played our role.” I opined.

“I will put in hard work to build one, you have done enough. We are glad to have your support…” it felt good to hear this.

I have come across many individuals working in the welfare sector who expect something in return for the work they do for others, but then I meet individuals like Baluhai, Devabhai, Pratap and a few others whose selflessness is like sunshine. Their firm belief that we cannot accept charity is a characteristic that sets them apart. I wish for such righteous thoughts to spread across widely.  

 સોમીબહેન... 

આમ તો એમનો પરિચય એમના દીકરાના લીધે..બલુભાઈ સ્વબળે ઊભા થવા મથતા તરવરિયા યુવાન.. અમારા સેવાકાર્યોમાં મદદ માટે સદાય તત્પર...એમના પિતાએ વાંસના સૂડલાં ટોપલા બનાવી વેચ્યા ને એમને ભણાવ્યા સાથે સમજણના પાઠ પણ ભણાવ્યા. 

બલુભાઈએ પ્રિન્ટીંગનો સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો શરૃ કર્યો. પણ બાપીકી એવી કોઈ મૂડી પાસે નહીં તે ધંધો વધારી શકે.. VSSM વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપે એવી ખબર પણ સંસ્થા પાસેથી મદદ લેવાય? સંસ્થાને તો આપવાનું હોય એવી એમની ભાવના. અદલ નેકનામના અમારા દેવાભાઈ જેવી.. 

બલુભાઈ સંસ્થાના દરેક સેવાકાર્યોમાં ખડે પગે.. વળી એ માટે એમને કહેવું પણ ન પડે... એટલે એમના પર ધ્યાન તો જાય જ..અમે સમજાવીને લોન આપી.. ધંધો થોડો વધ્યો... હાલ રહેવાનું અસ્થાયી ઘરમાં. સમણું પોતાનું પાક્કુ ઘર થાય એ માટેનું ને એ માટે મહેનત પણ ખુબ કરે. પૈસા ભેગા થશે તો જાતે ઘર બનાવી લઈશ. કોઈની ઓશિયાળી મારે નથી વેઠવી એવી ઉમદા ભાવના..

આવામાં તેમના પિતા બિમાર પડ્યા ને માંદગી પછી દેવલોક પામ્યા. આ ઓછુ હતું ત્યાં કોરોનાની બીજી લહેરે તેમના આખા ઘરને ઝપેટમાં લીધું. 

સોમીબહેન બિમાર પડ્યા. શ્વાસ લેવામાં ભયંકર તકલીફ થવા માંડી. સરકારી દવાખાનામાં જગ્યા ન મળી. આખરે ખાનગી હોસ્પીટલમાં એમને દાખલ કર્યા. ખાનગી હોસ્પીટલના મસમોટા બીલ. પણ બલુભાઈ શ્રવણ જેવા દીકરા. માની સેવા ચાકરીમાં પાછા ન પડે. સોમીબેનને સાજા કરવા માથે દેવું કર્યું. પણ હોસ્પીટલમાં રહેવાનો સમય વધ્યો તબીયતમાં સુધારો ન થાય. આ બાબતનો અમને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો. હિંમત તો આપવાની જ હોય.. સાથે આર્થિક રીત એ ભાંગી ન પડે તે માટે અમારા પ્રિય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા(અંકલ) ને ડો.ઈન્દારા મહેતા(આંટી)ની મદદથી મદદ કરી.સૌની પ્રાર્થનાથી એ સાજા થયા..

સોમીબહેન ને બલુભાઈનું રહેવાનું બનાસકાંઠાના ડાંગિયાગામમાં તે ત્યાંથી પસાર થવાનું થયું. અમારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈએ એમને તેમના ગામમાંથી પસાર થઈ રહ્યાનું કહ્યું તે એમણે ઘરે આવવા ખાસ આગ્રહ કર્યો.એંમના ઘરે સરસ ચા તો પીધી.. સાથે સોમીબહેનને પણ મળ્યા. એમણે કહ્યું. 'તમે હિંમત ને મદદ આપી તે આજે જીવતી છું'મદદ કરવાવાળાએ કરી અમે તો નિમિત્ત હતા. બાકી બધુયે નિશ્ચિત હોય છે એવું સોમીબહેનને અમે કહ્યું...

ડાંગિયાથી નીકળતા બલુભાઈને ઘર માટે શું વિચાર્યું એવું પુછ્યું તો એમણે કહ્યું, 'જાત મહેતનથી કરી લઈશ બેન.. તમે ઘણું કર્યું. તમે સાથો છો એ અમારે મન ઘણું...' સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું..

સેવા કાર્યોમાં ઘણાય લોકોને હું જોવું છું. જેમને કોઈ આપે એની જ એષણા હોય, લાલચો હોય પણ બલુભાઈ, દેવાભાઈ, પ્રતાપ, ચતુર વગેરેને જોવું છું ત્યારે મને ઘણો આનંદ થાય.. ધર્માદાનું અમને ના ખપે...

આવા સુંદર વિચાર સૌનામાં રોપાય તેવી શુભભાવના....

VSSM's medical assistance helped shivo to save his leg...

Mittal Patel voiced her thoughts to Shivo and Madhuben

Shivo, the sole support to Madhuben’s existence. He was just 10 months old when his father left for heavenly abode. The community they belong to permits second marriages but Madhuben decided to remain single and raised Shivo with great challenges. As a result she could not educate him well. Madhuben sold vegetables on her hand cart, as Shivo grew he became her helping hand.

One day while cleaning the windows of their house, Shivo fell down and injured his leg. Initially,  they ignored the injury but as the pain in the leg grew the mother-son duo consulted a doctor. “The leg is decaying from inside, to stop it from progressing further we have no option but to amputate it,”  doctor’s diagnosis left Madhuben devastated. They started consulting private doctors and sinking into debt.

When we got to know about the situation, we got them to Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. The doctors operated upon him and saved his leg.

VSSM’s Kiran moves through the most interior villages and brings seriously ill patients to Civil hospital and ensures they receive proper treatment. If needed VSSM also helps them financially.  

All our health interventions become possible because of support from our dear Krishnakant Uncle and Dr. Indira Auntie.

Shiva and his mother were at our office after getting discharged from the hospital. We also provided them financial support to help them ease their debt. “In today’s times even our own choose to look the other way in times of need, while you helped us all the way!” They said expressing their gratitude. During the conversation, we learnt that the handcart they use is rented for Rs. 30 per day. We assured them to help with buying a handcart. This brought them great joy.

“You are blessed to have a mother like her, remember to care for her during her silver years!” I voiced my thoughts as the duo left.

“I will do my best!” Shiva replied with a smile.

Krishnakant Uncle and Indira Auntie, we are immensely grateful to you for providing us the opportunity to work for such noble cause.

નામ એનું શીવો..

મધુબહેનનો જીવવાનો એકમાત્ર આધાર.

દસ મહિનાના શીવાને મુકીને એના બાપા ગુજરી ગયેલા. મધુબહેને પેટે પાટા બાંધી એને મોટો કર્યો. આમ તો આવડી નાની ઉંમરે વિધવા થયેલા મઘુબહેન જે સમાજમાંથી આવતા એમાં બીજા લગ્નો થતા. પણ એમણે એ ન કર્યા.

જો કે એ શિવાને બહુ ભણાવી ન શક્યા. મધુબહેન ભાડાની લારી લઈ શાકભાજી વેચે. શીવો પણ મોટો થતા એમની મદદે લાગ્યો. 

એક દિવસ ઘરની બારી સાફ કરતા શીવો નીચે પડ્યો ને પગમાં વાગ્યું. પણ એ વખતે ઈજા પ્રત્યે ઝાઝુ ધ્યાન ન ગયું. મહિનાઓ વિત્યા ને પગમાં દુખાવો વધ્યો.

ડોક્ટરને બતાવ્યું ને ડોક્ટરે સડો થઈ ગયાનું ને સડાને આગળ વધતો અટકાવવા પગ કપાવવા કહ્યું. મધુબહેનના માથે આભ ફાટ્યું. 

ખાનગી દવાખાનાઓ ફરવાના શરૃ કર્યા. માથે દેવાનો ડુંગર થયો...

અમને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો. સિવીલમાં સારવાર શરૃ થઈ. ડોક્ટરે ઓપરેશન કર્યું ને શીવાનો પગ બચી ગયો. 

અમારો કીરણ દૂરના ગામડાંઓમાંથી કે શહેરમાંથી ગંભીર પ્રકારની બિમારીથી પીડાતા દર્દીઓને સીવિલ સુધી પહોંચાડી ત્યાં તેમની સરખી સારવાર થાય તે માટે મથે.. જરૃર પડે VSSM થકી અમે આર્થિક મદદ પણ કરીએ. 

આરોગ્ય સંદર્ભનું આખુ કાર્ય અમારા વહાલા ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા ને ડો.ઈન્દિરા મહેતાની મદદથી ચાલે. 

શીવાને રજા આપી પછી અમારી ઓફીસે મા- દિકરો ખાસ મળવા આવ્યા. દેવું થયું હતું તેને ઓછુ કરવા અમે નાનકડો ટેકો પણ કર્યો. 

કળયુગમાં આવા સમયે પોતાનાય મોઢું ફેરવી લે એવા ટાણે તમે મદદમાં ઊભા રહ્યા એમ કહીને તમણે આભાર માન્યો.. 

તેમની સાથે વાત કરતાં ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે, તેઓ શાકભાજીની લારી દૈનિક 30 રૃપિયાના ભાડે લે છે. અમે એમને માલિકીની લારી લઈ આપવાનું વચન આપ્યું. 

શિવો ને મધુબહેન બેય રાજી... અમારી વિદાય લઈને અમારા પ્રાંગણમાંથી વિદાય લઈ રહેલા શીવાને મે આવી મા મળવી એ સદનસીબ. એની સેવા કરજે ને ઘડપણમાંય એને સાચવજેનું કહ્યું...

શીવાએ સ્મિત સાથે કહેવું ના પડે બેન એમ કહ્યું....

ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ અને આન્ટી તમારો આભાર તમારા લીધે આવા સતકાર્યોમાં અમે નિમિત્ત બની શક્યા..

VSSM’s, one of the many initiatives for the upliftment of poor and destitute includes a program to provide care and protection to the elderly. In an effort to enable the identified elderly spend their sliver years with dignity, VSSM provides them a monthly ration kits and takes care of their medical emergencies. Just as a child looks up to a parent, these elderly reach out to find solutions to their big and small needs.

“I was waiting for you! When will Ben come to meet us? I wanted to meet you at least once before I die…” such warmth does overwhelm me at times.

This Diwali, along with the monthly ration kits we also shared Mithai with our elderly. The sight of a mithai box set their eyes gleaming. Many told us, who cares for us like you do?

Well, as I always say, it is your support that helps us be instrumental in spreading cheer and joy in the lives of many. To us, bringing well-being in the lives of these elderly gives us great happiness. “I had told God to give me Bajra flour instead of wheat, but he doesn’t listen…” along with blessing, they also complain…To them we are the family they have hence rightfully complain too.

We request you all to become a part to spread light in the lives of these elderly. This new year do take a pledge to adopt an elderly and spare Rs. 1200 a month to bring them a ration kit. 

પોતાનાય ન સાચવે એવું સરસ તમે સાચવો છો.. ભગવાન તમને સુખી રાખે ને ખુબ આપે...

VSSM ઘણી સેવાકીય પ્રવૃતિઓ કરે એમાંની એક નિરાધાર, વડિલ માવતરોની સાર સંભાળની. દર મહિને તઓ સ્વમાનભેર જીવી શકે તે માટે રાશન આપવાનું ને જરૃરી અન્ય સુવિધા જેમ કે મારા ચશ્મા તૂટી ગયા. મને આંખે ઝાંખુ દેખાય. પેટમાં તકલીફ થઈ, પગમાં સોજા ચડી ગ્યા વગેરે જેવી શારિરીક તકલીફોનું સમાધાન પણ કરી આપવાનું. 

મા-બાપ પોતાના બાળકોને તકલીફો કહે એમ આ માવતરો તકલીફ કહે, ક્યાંક તો તમારી રાહ જોતી'તી.. તો ક્યાંક બેન ક્યારે આવશે. મરતા પહેલાં એકવાર મળવું છે વગેરે...

આવું વહાલ.. સાંભળીને હૈયુ ભરાઈ આવે..

આવા માવતરોને દિવાળીના પર્વ નિમિત્તે રાશનની સાથે સાથે મીઠાઈ આપવાનું પણ કર્યું.. મીઠાઈનું ખોખુ જોઈને જ એમની આંખોમાં જુદી રોનક આવી.. આવું ધ્યાન કોણ રાખે? એવું 195 માવતરોમાંથી ઘણાએ કહ્યું...

ખેર હું હંમેશાં કહુ છુ, આપવાવાળા આપે અમે તો નિમિત્તમાત્ર...

પણ સાચુ કહુ તો આ માવતરોના જીવને સાતા પહોંચાડવાનું સુખ સૌથી મોટુ.. કેટલા આશિર્વાદ ને ક્યાંક તો ફરિયાદ પણ ખરી.. 'મને ઘઉંના લોટની જગ્યાએ બાજરી જોતી'તી મે ભગવાનને કીધેલું. પણ કાંઈ હાંભળતો જ નથી...'

પોતાના પર કરે એવો હક... 

આવા માવતરોના જીવનમાં ઊજાસ પાથરવામાં નિમિત્ત બનવા સૌને વિનંતી.. 

નવા વર્ષના દિવસે આપણે સૌ શુભસંકલ્પ કરીએ આ શુભસંકલ્પમાં આવા માવતરોને દત્તક લેવાનું કરી શકીએ. દત્તક એટલે માસીક 1200 રૃપિયા એમના રાશન નિમિત્તે જુદા કાઢવાના..

A wood fired stove/chula designed to consumes less wood and emit less smoke yet cooks faster.

VSSM, with support from Sparsh gifted these uniquely designed chula to nomadic families living in Sabarkantha’s Himmatnagar and Aravalli’s  Bhiloda regions.

It is a small yet priceless gift for the homemakers who need to spend hours collecting wood and cooking after a tiring day at work. It would also be convenient for these families who keep wandering to pack and move with this chula.

Maharshibhai  and Rutu through Sparsh have been supporting VSSM help these deprived families. This Diwali, they chose to gift these chula.

We are thankful to our team member Tohid for identifying the deserving families and bringing them the chula/stoves.

આમ તો નાનકડી ભેટ ગૃહિણી માટે અમુલ્ય.

ગામે ગામ લબાચા લઈને રઝળતા પરિવારો માટે આ ચુલાને લઈને ફરવુંયે પાછુ સહેલું.

મહર્ષીભાઈ અને ઋતુ સ્પર્શ સંસ્થા થકી VSSMને શક્ય મદદ આ વંચિત પરિવારોના કલ્યાણમાં કરે..

અમારા કાર્યકર તોહીદે આવા પરિવારોને શોધ્યા અને તેમના સુધી મદદ પહોંચાડી. આભાર..

Mittal Patel meets Dahyakaka and Manjuben

I was seating near the shanties near the highway leading to Surendranagar, when a frail looking Dahyakaka,  bent from waist downwards came and sat next to me.

“We have to visit Dahyakaka’s home, we provide him monthly ration kit and he wanted to meet you, ” Harshad, my teammate  tells me.

I was at this Vansfoda settlement to interact with the community leaders. Harshad, Pravinbhai and other leading community members had worked hard to ensure this families receive residential plots form the government. The hard work paid off, the plot got sanctioned. The families are now awaiting government aid to being construction of houses.

After the completion of the meeting, I followed Dahyakaka to what he called his house. A shanty in middle of puddles and pot-holes that he called home.

“Wake-up,  Ben is here,” Kaka woke up his wife Manjuben who was asleep on the charpoy.

“I cannot see well, nor can she,” Kaka tells us.

“So who cooks for you from the ration we give you?” I inquired.

“Both of us cook together!”

“Is the ration enough?”

“Oh yes, it is more than enough. You have served us in the true sense, May God Bless you!!” Kaka generously showered his blessings.

Kaka-Kaki are destitute elders, it would benefit them if they got Antyoday card. Kaka receives pension under elderly pension scheme but Kaki doesn’t receive anything, “It would be better if I also got some money, we wouldn’t have to stretch our hands before someone.”

The couple has received a plot at Mulchand village, Kaka dreams to move into his own house before he breathes his last.

We are glad to be instrumental in helping him realise his dream.

The government assistance for house construction is Rs. 1.20 which is insufficient to build a decent house hence, we will top up the government assistance. Because it is about bringing their last wish to life.

Kaka’s blessings are not limited to us, they have reached all who have helped us help them.

સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રોડની બાજુમાં આવેલા છાપરાંના એક ભાગમાં હું બેઠી હતી ત્યાં કમરેથી વાંકા વળી ગયેલા ડાહ્યાકાકા મારી સામે આવીને બેઠા.

અમારા કાર્યકર હર્ષેદ કહ્યું, 'આપણે ડાહ્યાકાકાના ઘરે જવાનું છે. આપણે એમને રાશનકીટ આપીએ છીએ. એ મળવાનું કહેતા હતા'

વાંસફોડા પરિવારોની આ વસાહત. તેમને રહેવા પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે અમારા હર્ષદ અને વસાહતના આગેવાન પ્રવિણભાઈ તેમજ અન્યોએ ઘણી મહેનત કરેલી. પ્લોટ ફળવાયા પણ મકાન સહાય હજુ મળી નથી. તે અંગે પરિવારો સાથે વાત કરવાની હતી.

અમારી બેઠક પુરી થઈ પછી હું હાહ્યાકાકાની પાછળ એમના ઘરે જવા ચાલી. આમ તો ઘર કહેવા કરતા રોડની બાજુમાં કાદવ કિચડની સામે આવેલું છાપરુ કહેવું વધારે ઉચીત.

કાકાએ એમના પત્ની મંજુકાકીને જે ખાટલામાં સુતા હતા તેમને ઉઠાડ્યા.

'ઉઠ બેન આઈવા સે..'

મંજુકાકીને આંખે ભળાતુ નથી. કાકા કહે, 'મને પણ ઝાંખુ દેખાય'

'ત્યારે કાકા અમે જે રાશન આપીએ એમાંથી રસોઈ કોણ બનાવી આપે?'

'અમે બેય મળીને બનાવીએ'

'રાશન ચાલી રહે છે કાકા?'

'હા બાપલા તમે સાચી સેવા કીધી ભગવાન તમારુ ધ્યાન રાખશે..' એવી કાંઈ કેટલીયે દુવા કાકાએ આપી.

કાકા કાકી નિરાધાર એમને અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ મળે તો પણ રાશનમાં વધારો થાય. બાકી વૃદ્ધ પેન્શન યોજના અંતર્ગત કાકાને પેન્શન મળે જ્યારે કાકીને નથી મળતું. કાકી કહે, 'પેન્શન મળે તો થોડો ટેકો રહે, કોઈ પાહે હાથ લાંબો કરવો નો પડે'

એમને મુળચંદગામમાં રહેવા પ્લોટ મળ્યો છે. કાકાની ઈચ્છા મરતા પહેલાં પોતાના પાકા ઘરમાં રહેવાની છે.

અમને રાજીપો છે આવા કાર્યોમાં નિમિત્ત બનવાનો.

સરકારની 1.20 લાખની સહાયમાંથી કાકાનું ઘર નહીં બંધાય અમે જરૃર પડે પૈસા ઉમેરીશું. મૂળ વાત જીવનના અંતીમ પડાવમાં આવેલા દંપતીનું સ્વપ્ન પૂર્ણ થાય એની છે.

અમે આવા નિરાધાર માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન ને બીજી જે જરૃર હોય તે પુરી કરીએ.. જો કે કોઈ આપે એ અમારે પહોંચાડવાનું પણ આનું સુખ મોટુ..

તમેય આવા સુખમાં ભાગીદાર બની શકો. માવતરોને માસીક રાશન આપવાનું કરીને તેમને દત્તક લઈને.. સંપર્ક 9099936013

This Navratri, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel organised a program to engage in a  dialogue with women working in various sectors of society.  During the occasion, we had an opportunity to share our impressions on how can the government work better for the welfare of Nomadic and De-notified tribes.

Honourable Chief Minister is a fine and humble human being. After the program ended, a group picture had to be taken to mark the event. “Please don't trouble the women,  do sit where you are,  I will try to adjust myself amidst them.” And look how well he fit in.

It was a pleasure meeting such a simple and unassuming personality. He also took prompt decisions on some of the pressing matters we discussed. We will try to have another meeting with him soon so that we can resolve the long pending issues better.

We are delighted to have him as our new Chief Minister and the opportunity he had provided to initiate a dialogue.

રાજ્યના મુખ્યમંત્રી આદરણીય શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલે નવરાત્રી દરમ્યાન વિવિધ ક્ષેત્રમાં કાર્યરત મહિલાઓ સાથે સંવાદનું આયોજન કર્યું.

સંવાદમાં વિચરતી વિમુક્ત જાતિના કલ્યાણના કાર્યોમાં સરકાર વધારે સારુ શું કરી શકે તેની વાત થઈ..

માનનીય મુખ્યમંત્રી ખુબ જ ઉમદા વ્યક્તિ વળી વિનમ્ર પણ એટલા જ. કાર્યક્રમ પત્યા પછી બધા બહેનો સાથે ફોટો પડાવવાની વાત આવી તો એમણે કહ્યું 'બહેનોને શું કામ હેરાન કરવા.. તમે સૌ જ્યાં બેઠા છો ત્યાં જ બેસી રહો હું તમારી પાછળ ગોઠવાઈ જઈશ..' ને જુઓ કેવી સરસ રીતે એ ગોઠવાઈ ગયા..

આવું સરળ વ્યક્તિત્વ.. તેમને મળીને આનંદ થયો.. ને તેમની સામે કેટલીક રજૂઆતો માટે એમણે તુરત નિર્ણય પણ કરી લીધો..

સત્વરે એમને મળવાનું ગોઠવીશ. જેથી આ મુદ્દે વધારે ગહન રીતે કાર્ય કરી શકાય..

રાજીપો રાજ્યને આવા મુખ્યમંત્રી મળ્યાનો... ને ખાસ તો સંવાદની તક આપી એ માટે...

એમની સાથે આમ થેલો પકડીને ફોટો પડાવવો ન ગમે પણ ખેર અમારા ઉત્તર ગુજરાતની ભાષામાં કરબેઠુ...

“You have eased our shoulders from carrying 15 kilos of weight… we can’t thank you enough…”

The Saraniya; popularly known as knife sharpeners are identified by the Saraan (the apparatus to sharpen tools) over their shoulders and also the black marks it leaves after they  off load it.

“Ben, we walk and wander across the villages with this Saraan over our shoulders. Despite of the availability of transport, the auto guys do not allow us to board their vehicle as 3-4 of us take too much of space along with the Saraan we carry. Hence, we have no choice but to walk across the villages. Walking also means we cannot cover too many villages at one go.” Surendranagar’s Bhailalbhai shared.

“If we could fix an emery on bicycle we can manage to reach 4-5 villages in a day, but who would think so for us? May God bless Krishnakant uncle who has taken the weight off our shoulders.”

VSSM, with support from Shri Krishnakant Mehta and Dr. Indira Mehta enabled the Saraniya families fix an emery (sharpening tool) on bicycles.

“We now have our own vehicle, not just to sharpen the knives but also to take our better-half on a pillion ride,” an upbeat Bhailalbhai shared with great enthusiasm.

Bhailalbhai’s narrative was music to our ears.

Krishnakant uncle and Indira auntie have become family to us, their proactive and progressive approach makes them support all our heuristic endeavours. VSSM is extremely grateful to them.

VSSM aspires to provide an emery fitted bicycle to each Saraniya who practices this traditional occupation.

Hope the universe conspires to turn this aspiration into a reality.

'તમે અમારા ખભા પરથી પંદર કિ.લો. વજન ઉતાર્યું તમારો ઘણો આભાર..'

સરાણિયા છરી ચપ્પા સજાવવાનું કામ કરે ને એ માટે ગામે ગામ વિચરણ કરે. સરાણિયા સમુદાયની ઓળખ તેમના ખભા પરનો સંચો તો ખરો પણ સંચો ઉતર્યા પછી ખભા પર પડી ગયેલા કાળા પાઠાય ખરા.

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના ભાઈલાલભાઈ કહે, 'બેન હંચો ખભે લઈ પગપાળા ગામે ગામ ફરીએ. હાલ વાહનની સગવડ થઈ ગઈ પણ અમને કોઈ રીક્ષાવાળા વાહનમાં ન બેસાડે. મૂળ હંચા સાથે અમે બે ત્રણ માણસોની જગ્યા રોકીએ ને માટે. એટલે ના છૂટકે પગગાડીથી ફરવાનું અમે કરીએ જોકે એમાં અમે ઝાઝા ગામ ફરી નો હકીએ..

સાયકલ પર હેમરી ગોઠવાય તો અમે એક શું પાંચ ગામ ફરી હકીએ. પણ અમારા માટે આવું વિચાર કોણ કરે?

ભલુ થશો આ ્ક્રિષ્ણકાંત કાકાનું તે એમણે અમારો ભાર હેઠો ઉતાર્યો'

સરાણિયા પરિવારોને સાયકલ પર ધાર કાઢવાની હેમરી ગોઠવી આપવાનું અમે ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા તેમજ ડો. ઈન્દિરા મહેતાની મદદથી કર્યું. 

ભાઈલાલભાઈ કહે, 'અમારે હવે ઘરનું વાહન થઈ ગ્યું. ચાકા હજાવવા તો પાંચ ગામ ફરાશે પણ ઘરવાળીને સાયકલ પાછળ બેસાડી અમે બજારેય જઈ શકીશું'

કેવી સરસ વાત.. સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું. 

ક્રિષ્ણકાંત અંકલ ને આન્ટી તો અમારા એવા સ્વજન થઈ ગયા છે કે કોઈ પણ નવા પ્રયોગાત્મક કામ માટે અમે એમને કહી શકીએ છીએ.. ને તેઓ હંમેશાં મદદ પણ કરે છે. તમારા બેઉ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા. 

છરી ચપ્પુની ધાર કાઢવા સંચો લઈ ફરતા તમામ સરાણિયાને તેમની ભાષામાં કહુ તો ઘરનું સાધન કરી આપવાની અમારી ભાવાના..

કુદરત આ સ્વપ્નને પૂર્ણ કરાવે તેવી અભ્યર્થના...
