Since last few years VSSM has been doing an uphill task of motivating, sensitising, mobilising, acclimatising the parents and children from the various Nomadic and De-notified communities to begin the process of education by bringing the children to school or bringing the school to the children. Than came the RTE Act, a powerful tool that would ensure that all the children of school going age will be in school. However, the gaps in the implementation of this Act is still keeping large number of children out of school in various pockets of our state as well as country.
The Dhaniyawada settlement of Nath Vadee families is experiencing similar situation. It is a fairly new settlement near Dhaniyawada village of Banaskanth's Dantiwada block. The settlement now has brand new homes of one of the most marginalised of nomadic communities, the Vadees. The settlement has 61 children of school going age. VSSM has a Bridge School functioning in the settlement but the mainstream government school is 3 kms away. Children do walk that distance but there are very young children who can not always walk the distance. The RTE does entitle these kids transportation facility to commute to the school. Infact the RTE has provisions for a school if the village or hamlet has atleast 30 children of school going age!!!
VSSM and the community have been collectively writing to the District Collector, the District Development officer as well as the District Education officer in this regard. Since more than a year the community has been requesting transport facility. The School Management committee is willing to do the needful but the Sarpanch and some other leaders of the village are opposing the decision.
VSSM has worked tirelessly with these families to create an environment of learning. The parents now want their children to study. The children also stay back with few elders in the settlement while their parents migrate in search of livelihood. Believe us this is a very difficult transition that we have been able to achieve.
The mood of the parents has began to take a setback with such attitude of authorities and village leaders.

બનાસકાંઠાના દાંતીવાડા તાલુકાના ધનીયાવાડા ગામમાં નાથવાદી
પરિવારો રહે છે. આ વસાહતમાં શાળાએ જઈ શકે તે ઉંમરનાં ૬૧ બાળકો છે. અલબત દરેક
બાળકનું નામ ગામની પ્રાથમિક શાળામાં ચાલે પણ છે. પણ મુશ્કેલી આ વસાહતથી ગામ અને
શાળા ૩ કી.મી. કરતા વધુ દૂર છે તે છે. બાળકો રોજ ચાલીને શાળાએ જાય છે પણ નાના
બાળકો થાકી જાય છે.
RTE (ફરજિયાત શિક્ષણ નો કાયદો) અમલી બન્યો એમાં વસાહતથી
શાળાનું અંતર વધારે હોય તો સરકારે વાહનની વ્યવસ્થા કરવી એવી જોગવાઈ કાયદામાં છે.
વળી જ્યાં ૩૦ બાળકોની સંખ્યા હોય ત્યાં તો શાળા જ શરુ કરી શકાય તેવી પણ જોગવાઈ છે.
આ બન્ને જોગવાઈ નાથાવાદીની વસાહતમાં લાગુ પડે છે પણ કરુણતા
એ છે કે બન્ને માંથી એકેય નથી થઇ રહ્યું. બનાસકાંઠા કલેકટર, જીલ્લા વિકાસ અધિકારી,
શિક્ષણ અધિકારીને આ બાબતે લખીને આપ્યું છે પણ જવાબ હા કરી દઈશું એ જ મળે છે. ૧
વર્ષ કરતા વધુ સમયથી આ પરિવારો વાહનની માંગ કરી રહ્યા છે પણ.. ગામમાં કાર્યરત
school મેનેજમેન્ટ કમિટીના કેટલા સભ્યો આ અંગે ઠરાવ કરવા તૈયાર છે તો સરપંચ અને
કેટલા બીજા તેનો વિરોધ કરે છે. .
વિચરતી જાતિમાં એક તો શિક્ષણનું પ્રમાણ ખુબ ઓછું છે એમાંય વાદી
સમાજ પોતાના બાળકોના ભણતરની ચિંતા કરે
તેવું તો ખૂબ ઓછું બને છે. હાલ બાળકોના વાલી કામ ધંધા માટે બહાર જાય તો પણ
બાળકોનું ભણવાનું બગડે નહિ તે માટે તેમને વસાહતમાં જ મુકીને જાય છે.. આવી
સ્થિતિમાં આ પરિવારો સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરીને થાકી ગયા છે.
આ પરિસ્થિતિના નિવારણ માટે શું કરવું એની ચર્ચા કરતા vssm ના કાર્યકર અને vssm સંચાલિત વૈકલ્પિક
શાળામાં બાલદોસ્ત સંગીતાબેન પાસે ભણી રહેલા બાળકો.
