The spread of VSSM’s work which has increased many-fold over the past couple of years. It is natural to expect community members to volunteer in resolving their issues. The need for the formation of community associations at district and block level and committees at settlement level has been observed since a while.

Recently, a meeting was organised in Banaskantha’s Kankrej with an objective to form VSSM inspired public associations. 15 members have volunteered to take up the responsibility of becoming part of the committee and contribute their time and efforts for the development of their communities. Kanubhai Raval has been selected as the President of the association while Bhagubhai Kangasiya has been assigned the responsibility of Association’s secretary. Shardaben Patni is the only female member of the association, a number both Shardaben and I  plan to increase in coming times

 It is the efforts of Naran, Ishwar and Kanubhai that have resulted into the formation of this association. We plan to strengthen the association so that it’s representatives become instrumental in bringing good in the lives of fellow community members.

વિચરતી જાતિઓ સાથેના કામોનો વ્યાપ ઘણો વધ્યો છે.

આવામાં તાલુકા અને જિલ્લા સ્તરે સમુદાયના સંગઠનો બને અને સંગઠનમાં જેમને પણ સ્વેચ્છાએ સેવાભાવથી કામ કરવાની ઇચ્છા હોય એવા લોકો જોડાય એ ઇચ્છનીય છે.

વળી જે લોકો જોડાય એમાંથી જ પંદર લોકોની કમિટી બને તો દરેક વસાહતોમાં રહેતા લોકોના પ્રશ્નો તરફ ધ્યાન પણ આપવું આ કમિટીના સભ્યો થકી સરળ બને.

કમિટીની રચનાની આ સમજણ સાથે બનાસકાંઠાના કાંકરેજમાં પ્રથમ વિચરતા સમુદાય સમર્થન મંચ પ્રેરિત લોક સંગઠનની રચના કરવામાં આવી. જેમાં ૧૫ વ્યક્તિઓએ સ્વેચ્છાએ પોતાના સમાજના વિકાસમાં સહભાગી બનવાનું સ્વીકાર્યું.

આ સંગઠનના પ્રમુખ તરીકે કનુભાઈ રાવળ અને મંત્રી તરીકે ભગુભાઈ કાંગસિયાની બેઠકમાં ઉપસ્થિત સૌએ સ્વેચ્છાએ વરણી કરી.

કાર્યકર નારણ, ઈશ્વર અને કનુભાઈ ની ઘણી મહેનતથી આ બધું શક્ય બન્યું..

સૌનું શુભ થાય એમાં લોક સંગઠનના પ્રતિનિધિઓ નિમિત્ત બને એ માટે એમને સક્ષમ બનાવીશું...

“We have resided in Rajkot for decades. These jute shanties have not only been our homes  but of  generations before us. Never in our lives we have seen a washroom, toilets or cemented floor. At last we have a plot of land, we too shall build a home and have a bathroom, toilet, fans, lights and all. We too shall know what it is to have electric power life so far has been spent under the flikering candles and oil lamps. We are grateful to you for this piece of land!!”

Naviben Bavri was elated on receiving documents to her piece of land as she shared with us her simple aspirations.

The current living condition of these families

116 Bavri families have been wandering around Rajkot, while carrying the dreams of building a house and settling down. Apart from these Bawri families 72 Bhavaiya and Sadhu families too received residential plots. For years their  applications had been loitering around various tables in various government offices. We had shared these woes with our CM respected Shri Vijaybhai Rupani. It is his sensitivity along with District Collector Shri Ramya Mohan’s compassion that resulted into allotment of plots to these families. Additional Collector Shri Jawant Jegoda helped locate the files and push the applications forward. And  of course  the constant follow-ups by VSSM’s persistent team members Kanubhai and Chayaben’s efforts  remained crucial in ensuring these families receive their piece of land.

On 18th January 2020 the families received documents to their land in Rajkot’s Rampara Beti. On the occasion Shri Vijaybhai mentioned that he has  instructed all the district collectors to work towards providing residential plots to the nomadic families of their district.

We are grateful to the government and administration, their  sensitive approach will remain instrumental in providing a decent roof over the heads of  thousands of families who will soon become homeowners for the first time in many generations.

We are particularly thankful to of Shri D. S. Shah Saheb from Chief Minister’s office. It was his efforts that has been the reason the nomadic families will find an address of their own.

 We can never forget the efforts of respected Bhagwan Kaka who has remained constantly on our side “I have devoted my full time for the welfare of these communities!!”

'અમી રાજકોટમાં વર્ષોથી રીયા. નાનાથી મોટા થીયા પણ અમારી જીંદગીમાં કોઈ દિ બાથરૃમ, સંડાસ જોવા ન મઈલું. અમે ઝૂંપડાંમાં, કોથળામાં જ રીયા. કોઈ દી જીંદગીમાં સીમેન્ટ કે લાદી ઘરમાં નથી નાઈખી. હવે અમને જમીન મલી સે તે ઈમો કોટર બનાઈશું. અમને હવે બધું જોવા મલશે. બાથરૃમ, સંડાસ, મકામ, પંખા, લાઈટો બધુ જોવા મલશે. નકર દીવા અને મેણબત્તી બાળીન જીંદગી કાઢી. જમી આલી તે તમારો આભાર..'

રાજકોટમાં રહેતા 116 બાવરી પરિવારોએ આખી જીંદગી લબાચા લઈને રાજકોટ આસપાસમાં રઝળ્યા કર્યું. પોતાનું ઘર થાય એ માટેનું સ્વપ્ન ખરુ પણ..... બાવરી સિવાયના 72 ભવાયા અને સાધુ પરિવારોને પણ પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા.વર્ષોથી પ્લોટની માંગણી માટેની દરખાસ્તો સરકારી કચેરીમાં જમા પણ કામ થાય નહીં.

રાજ્યના #મુખ્યમંત્રી આદરણીય શ્રી #વિજયભાઈ_રૃપાણી સમક્ષ આ બધીયે બાબતોની વિગતે વાત થઈ તેમની અને આદરણીય #કલેક્ટર શ્રી રમ્યા મોહનની લાગણી ભળી. પ્રાંત કલેક્ટર તરીકે ચરનસિંહ ગોહીલ, જસવંત જેગોડા ત્યાં આવ્યા અને દરખાસ્તોની ફાઈલો શોધાઈ ને કામ આગળ ધપ્યું.સંસ્થાના કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેનની સતત મહેનત. આખરે સ્વપ્ન સાકાર થયું. તા. 18 જાન્યુઆરીના રોજ માનનીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીએ પોતાના હસ્તે આ પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટની સનદ આપી.

રાજકોટ પાસે રામપરા બેટીમાં એમને પ્લોટ મળ્યા.મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીએ કાર્યક્રમમાં તમામ જિલ્લા કલેક્ટર શ્રીઓને વિચરતી જાતિઓને પ્લોટ આપવાની સૂચના આપી દીધાની વાત પણ ભાર પૂર્વક કહી.

આભાર વહીવટીતંત્ર અને સરકારનો. આપની લાગણીના લીધે જ હજારો પરિવારો આવનારા વખતમાં ઘરવાળા થવાને એ નક્કી..

મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી તેમજ મુખ્યમંત્રી કાર્યાલયમાં કામ કરતા ડી.એચ.શાહ સાહેબનો વિશેષ આભાર. તેમની લાગણીના લીધે જ આ બધું થઈ રહ્યું છે...

આદરણીય ભગવાન કાકા તો સતત સાથે એમને તો કેમ ભૂલાય. એ કહે એમ, હવે ફૂલ ટાઈમ આ જાતિઓના કલ્યાણ અર્થે...સૌ પ્રિયજનોનો આભાર

જેમણે આ કામમાં સહયોગ કર્યો છે...ફોટોમાં પ્લોટની સનદ આપતા આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી, તેમજ સનદ મળી ગયા પછી આપણો આપણો બધાનો એક ફોટો લઈએ એમ કહીને સનદ મેળવનાર સૌ સાથે ઊભા રહ્યા...અને છેલ્લે હાલમાં આ પરિવારો જ્યાં રહે છે તે પણ જોઈ શકાય છે.

VSSM is building a residential facility in Kakar for the children of nomadic Vadi families...

It was a contraption the boys  made to create a makeshift wood fired stove, three bricks placed in a way which  could hold the bottom a pan or a griddle. This sight in the front yard of house caught my attention while I was passing through the lanes of Kakar’s Vadi settlement. It was around 2.30 in the afternoon, these three boys  still dressed in their school uniforms were sitting around the stove. The eldest,  who seemed to  be around 14 years old was kneading dough in a paraat. 

Curiosity took  better of me and I decided to stepped into their yard. 

“Why are you three cooking, where are your parents?” I inquired. 

“They are travelling for work, will return after 3 months,” replied one of them. 

“Why didn’t you join them?”

“Because we want to study.”

“Wonderful. But why are you cooking at this hour, don’t you get mid-day meal in the school?”

“They serve rice frequently. We do not like rice.”

“Do your parents give you money to buy food supplies?”

“Yes, they give us one-two hundred rupees when they leave.”

“How can such little amount last for 3 months?” was my obvious question.

“It doesn’t so I go and beg over the weekends, after the school closes on Saturday. I collect 100-200 rupees, that helps us pull through the week.”

“Did you have breakfast in the morning?”

“No. We shall have tea and rotla for lunch and vegetable and rotla for dinner.”

It was Vinu who was cooking for his two younger brothers Raju and Shailesh. It was his task to cook and beg over the weekends. The younger two siblings were assigned chores of  collecting  fire wood, fetching water, vegetables etc. I was amazed and impressed by their struggle to study. But did not like the fact that they had to beg to fill their bellies. And that they are required to  sustain themselves on such meagre amount when for most of us 100-200 doesn’t even matter. 

VSSM is building a residential facility in Kakar  for children like Vinu, Raju, Shailesh to enable them to study at peace and not go begging. The construction of this hostel is expected to finish within a month. The hostel will provide them three full meals in a day and life skill education. . The kids will focus on their studies and not worry about their next meal. 

We are grateful to respected Shri Piyushbhai Kothari and Shri Pravinbhai Shah for providing the financial assistance to help us build  a much needed residential facility for the children of nomadic Vadi families.

કાકરની વાદી વસાહતમાં હું ફરી રહી હતી. અચાનક મારુ ધ્યાન વસાહતના એક ઘરના આંગણામાં ગયું.

ત્રણ ઈંટના ચુલા માથે તાવડી મૂકેલી હતી અને એની ફરતે ત્રણ છોકરાં બેઠા હતા.

એક છોકરો તેર ચૌદ વર્ષનો જણાતો હતો. જે કથરોટમાં લોટ બાંધી રહ્યો હતો.

બપોરના લગભગ બે અઢી વાગ્યા હશે. ત્રણ છોકરાંમાંથી બે છોકરાંએ નિશાળનો ગણવેશ પહેર્યો હતો.

થોડી જીજ્ઞાષા સાથે હું એમના આંગણામાં પ્રવેશી.

એમની સાથે ઘણી વાત થઈ. ભણતર માટે આ ત્રણે બાળકો જે સંઘર્ષે કરી રહ્યા છે તે મને બહુ ગમ્યો.

દોઢસો રૃપિયામાં આ બાળકો આખા અઠવાડિયાનું રાશન ભેગું કરી લે છે

અને એ મર્યાદીત રૃપિયામાં પોતાનો ગુજારો કરે છે.

જ્યારે આપણી આસપાસ રહેતા ધનિક કે મધ્યમવર્ગના બાળકો માટે 100 કે 200 રૃપિયાની કોઈ વિસાત નથી.

Mittal Patel discusses Water Management at Khorda village

“Ben, please deepen the lake in our village. We promise we shall offer best possible support and contribution!!”

Shri Arjunbhai Joshi, Sarpanch of Khorda village in Banaskantha’s Tharad block appealed us. Consequent to the request, a meeting with village leaders and community was organised.

We discussed how VSSM works in partnership with the village leadership and does not initiate any work without an agreement. 

The primary criteria for VSSM to take up the work of deepening village lakes are:

•     VSSM will only contribute towards the expenses of JCB incurred in the excavating the soil.

•     The soil will be ferried out by the villagers.

•     The community will also contribute in cash but the amount will not be used towards the cost incurred in ferrying the excavated soil.

Once the village leadership agrees to the mentioned conditions we proceed with further discussions and evaluations.

The first meeting for 2020 was organised at Korda village, where Sarpanch Shri Arjunbhai pledged personal contribution of Rs. 1,11,111, a staff of Panchayat also pledged his one month’s salary. Once the actual work begins we expect more contributions to pour in.

It is time we realise the gravity of the looming water crisis and collectively work to tackle it.

'અમારા ગોમમોં તળાવો ગાળો બેન, હારમ હારો સહકાર અમે ગોમના આલશ્....'

બનાસકાંઠાના થરાદના ખોરડાગામના સરપંચ શ્રી અર્જુનભાઈ જોષીએ આ કહ્યું અને ગામલોકો સાથે અમે એક બેઠકનું આયોજન કર્યું.

બેઠકમાં ઉપસ્થિતિ લોકોને અમે તળાવ ઊંડુ કરવા માટે ગામલોકોનો ફાળો પણ જોઈએ તેવી વાત કરી. મૂળ તો અમારા નિયમ પ્રમાણે જેસીબીનો ખર્ચ સંસ્થા આપે, માટી ઉપાડવાનું ગામના શીરે અને એ સિવાય ગામલોકો પૈસા ભેગા કરે જે તળાવ ગાળવામાં વપરાય. આ પૈસા માટી ઉપાડવામાં નહીં વાપરવા. આવા નિયમો સાથે સહમત ગામોમાં જ તળાવ કરવાનું અમે નક્કી કર્યું અને એ માટે આ વર્ષની શરૃઆતમાં થરાદના ખોરડ઼ાગામમાં અમે બેઠક કરી.

બેઠકમાં લોકો ભાગીદારીથી આ કામ કરવાની વાત કરી. ગામના સરપંચ અર્જુનભાઈએ રૃા. 1,11,111 તળાવ ગળાવવા પોતાના આપવાની જાહેરાત કરી તો, ગામના પંચાયતઘરમાં કામ શીરસ્તેદાર તરીકે કામ કરતા ભાઈએ પોતાનો એક પગાર આપવાની વાત કરી.

જો કે તળાવ ગાળવાનું હજુ શરૃ થયું નથી થશે એટલે સહકાર વધુ મળવાનો એ નક્કી...પણ દરેક ગામ જાગે અને પોતાની મા એવી ધરતીની ચિંતા કરે એ જરૃરી...
