Mittal Patel meets Vimlaba in her new home

"The cooked food would get spoiled by getting soaked in water. The farmers would get happy when it rains but I would shudder with fear as soon as the clouds started getting dark.  I would fear for the safety of my home when the lightning strikes in the sky. Life is meaningless when I have not been able to save even 5 Rs in my entire life. It hurts a lot but what can be done? In the rain, I would go for shelter to someone's home. Some may even refuse to give shelter."

 Vimalaba stays in Malavada Village in Kheda District.. She has a daughter who married and went to in-laws house. Till she was alive, she used to take care of her mother Vimalaba. Unfortunately she expired and her 3 children also were under the care of Vimalaba. The son in law also passed away. Vimalaba had no support left. She had no resources to bring the children to her house. Her husband also had passed away. Till he was alive they did farm labour . This did not give them any extra money to save. 

Vimalaba is now 75 years old. She is not capable of working. The only way to survive is to beg.

Our associate Shri Rajnibhai found out about her  & for some relief we started giving her food kit. every month. We were anguished when we saw the condition of her house. When Rajnibhai went to deliver ration kit to her it was raining. He saw that most of the roof had come off and only one sheet of roof was there which was giving shelter from the rain. It was a pathetic condition and we immediately decided to repair her house. Our well wisher & supporter Shri Aleembhai Adatia came forward to support. He is from Jamnagar but stays in Africa. He has a soft corner for the work done by VSSM. He assured Vimalaba not to worry at all and we took up the work to build Vimalaba's house .

Vimalaba is now relieved. There is a foyer in front of her home. After completing the house work, she sits in the foyer and watches people go by. It helps her to pass the time. When we first met her she had no desire to live. She now happily says she wants to live for a few years..Thank you Aleembhai. Vimalaba has given her blessings to Aleembhai that he will become more prosperous.  We also wish the same. We are happy that we became instrumental in this.

'રાંધેલું ધાનેય પલળી જતું. એવા ચુવા થતા. વરસાદ પડે તો ખેડૂ રાજી થાય પણ મને તો વાદળ ઘેરાવા માંડે ને જીવ ફડફડ થવા માંડે. એમાં વીજળીના કડાકા થતા હોય ત્યારે તો હમણાં મારા ઘર પર વીજળી પડશે એવું થાય. બહુ બીક લાગે. બળ્યો કેવો અવતાર. પાંચ રૃપિયા આખી જિંદગીમાં ભેગા ન કરી શકી.. ચમચમ થતું'તું પણ હું કરીએ? બહુ વરસાદ પડે ને કોકના ઘેર આશરા માટે જવું તો કોઈ ઘરમાં પેહવા દે કોઈ નાય પાડી દે..'

વિમળાબા ખેડાના માલાવાડાગામમાં રહે. એક દિકરી હતી જેને પરણાવીને સાસરે મોકલી એ જીવતી હતી ત્યાં સુધી વિમળાબાનું થોડું ધ્યાન રાખતી પણ એય માંદગીમાં નાના ત્રણ બાળકોને મુકીને ગઈ. એના પછી જમાઈ પણ..

આમ વિમળાબાને કોઈ આશરો ન રહ્યો. ભાણિયાને દાદા દાદી સાચવે. પોતાની એવી તાકાત નહોતી એટલે એ ભાણિયાઓને પોતાની પાસે લાવ્યા નહીં. જ્યારે ઘરવાળા તો વર્ષો પહેલાં ગયેલા.

ખેતમજૂરી કરીને પતિ પત્નીયે જિંદગી કાઢી. મજૂરીમાં જીવાય એટલું મળે ભેગું તો ક્યાંથી થાય?

વિમળાને 75 વર્ષથી વધુ થયા કામ તો થાય નહીં. માંગી ભીખીને જીવવા કોશીશ કરે. 

અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈ થકી એમને અમે શાંતિથી ખાઈ શકાય એ માટે દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. પણ ઘરની હાલત જોઈને જીવ બળ્યો. રજનીભાઈ એક વખત રાશન કીટ આપવા ગયા. વરસાદ વરસી રહ્યો હતો એ વખતે તો ઘર પરના બધા પતરા લગભગ પડી ગયેલા. એક પતરુ જરા ઢાળમાં ગોઠવી એની નીચે ખાટલો ગોઠવી એ બેઠેલા.

જોઈને જીવ બળ્યો. ઘર બનાવી દેવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો ને મદદ કરી અમારા ડો. અલીમભાઈ અદાતિયાએ. મૂળ એ જામનગરના પણ રહે આફ્રિકા. VSSM થકી થઈ રહેલા કાર્યો પ્રત્યે ખુબ લાગણી રાખે .એમણે કહ્યું. 'વિમળાબાની જરાય ચિંતા ન કરો એમને માથુ ઢાંકવા જેવું ઘર કરવું પડે તે કરી દો.ટ

ને બસ વિમળા બાનું ઘર બાંધવાનું કામ ઉપાડ્યું. ને સરસ ઘર બંધાઈ ગયું. 

વિમળા બાના જીવને હવે સાતા. ઘર બહાર મોટો ઓટલો કર્યો છે. એ કહે, 'ઘરકામમાંથી પરવારુ એટલે ઓટલે આવી બેસુ. આવતા જતા લોકોને જોવું તો ટાઈમ જાય..'

એમને પહેલીવાર મળી ત્યારે જીવવામાં જરાય રસ નહોતો. હવે એમને થોડા વર્ષો જીવવું છે એવું એમણે હસતા હસતા કહ્યુૂં.
