A good initiative : A gap in funding a constriction of a house was plugged with the help of 'Kalupur Commercial Co-operative Bank'

Owning a home is everybody’s dream, a dream people work hard to realise. And nobody understands the yearning of a home better than the families of Nomadic and De-notified tribes. For generations  these communities have been spending their entire lives on roadsides, in shrubs and bushes, on wastelands,  in ghettos. They have been popularly christened ‘People without Address’. However, since last couple of years VSSM is striving to give these communities an identity and a home of their own. VSSM has supported construction of 209 houses so far,  while we are prepping up for supporting construction of another  468  homes. As per the design worked out by VSSM,  constructing a decent minimalistic house costs around Rs. 1.05 lac.  After the families have been allotted residential plots, they can apply for government support for construction of house. The support government provides is Rs. 45,000/- which by no means is enough to construct a house these days, hence, VSSM provides the  matching amount of Rs. 45,000/- . We still remain short of Rs. 15,000/-.  

The first phase of construction of 468 houses has began with 56  families from Deesa block. These  families are willing to contribute the deficit  amount but for people who are daily wage earners saving even so little  is a daunting task.  Finding options to this situation was a  struggle  as we did not want the families to get in to the debt trap of private money lenders. 

VSSM spoke to The Kalupur Commercial Co-operative Bank about this dilemma. The decision makers of the bank showed an instant readiness to lend money to the families. The families were delighted to learn about this development. The bank processed the applications and gave away cheques to the women of the households at a special event organised at the bank premises on 31st March 2014. As  Shri. Ambubhai Patel the Chairman of  Kalupur Bank puts in, this women had been invited to  the bank,  specifically to attune them on the functioning of bank, help them shed their intimidations about such institutions, help them realise how friendly and approachable banks can be…’ The women decided to paying an EMI of Rs. 500/- . 

VSSM has taken up this daunting task of instilling the habit of saving  amongst the families of nomadic tribes, children’s saving groups, individual saving have been opened,  the beginning has been good and we are hoping for it to continue…...

વિચરતા સમુદાયના ૪૬૮ પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવાનું આયોજન vssm દ્વારા થઇ રહ્યું છે. જે અંતર્ગત ડીસામાં રહેતા ૫૬ પરિવારોના ઘરનું બાંધકામ પ્રથમ શરુ થયું. સરકાર દ્વારા આ પરિવારોને ઘરના બાંધકામ માટે રૂ. ૪૫,૦૦૦ આપવામાં આવ્યા. પરંતુ આ રકમમાંથી ઘર બાંધી શકાય નહિ. સંસ્થાગત રીતે દાતાઓના સહયોગથી આપણે પ્રત્યેક પરિવારને રૂ.૪૫,૦૦૦ ની મદદ કરી. પણ એક ઘરનો અંદાજ રૂ. ૧,૦૫,૦૦૦ થવા જાય છે. પ્રત્યેક પરિવાર રૂ. ૧૫,૦૦૦ આપશે પણ આપણે જાણીએ છીએ તેમ રોજ લાવીને રોજ ખાવાનું આમાં બચત તો ક્યાંથી થઇ હોય? આ સ્થિતિમાં શું કરવું તે સમજાતું નહોતું. વ્યાજવા પૈસા લેવા જાય તો એનું વ્યાજ જ મહીને માંડ ભરી શકે એમાં મૂડી તો કેવી રીતે ભરે!

આ પરિવારોની આ મૂંઝવણ અંગે ‘ધી કાલુપુર કોમર્શીયલ કો- ઓપરેટીવ બેંક લિમિટેડ’માં વાત કરી અને એમણે આ પરિવારોને લોન આપવાની તૈયારી દર્શાવી. લોન મળી શકે એ અંગે પરિવારોને જાણ થઇ એ ખૂબ રાજી થયા. બેંકે આ પરિવારોના લોન પેપર તૈયાર કર્યા અને ૩૧મી માર્ચના રોજ આ પરિવારની બહેનોને લોનનો ચેક લેવા અમદાવાદ બોલાવી. મૂળ તો અમદાવાદ બોલાવવા પાછળનો હેતુ બેન્કના ચેરમેન આદરણીય શ્રી અંબુભાઈ પટેલ કહે છે તેમ, ‘આ પરિવારો બેંક જુએ અને સાથે સાથે અહી એમને કોઈ પણ કામ માટે લોન જોઇશે તો મળશે એવી ખાત્રી પણ થશે. બેંક એમના માટે છે એવો ભાવ પણ થશે.’ બહેનો અમદાવાદ આવી. એમને દર મહીને હપ્તો કેટલો ભરશો એવું પૂછ્યું, તો એમને જવાબ આપ્યો, મહીને રૂ.૫૦૦ ભરીશું.’ કાર્યક્રમ પત્યા પછી બહેનોને બેંક, બતાવવામાં આવી. તે પછી એમને અતીથી ડાઇનિંગ હોલમાં માં ખૂબ પ્રેમથી જમાડ્યા પછી વિદાય આપી.

વિચરતા સમુદાયો બચત કરતા થાય તે દિશામાં અમે કામ ઉપાડ્યું છે. તેમના બચતજૂથ બનાવ્યા છે સાથે સાથે  વ્યક્તિગત ધોરણે પણ ખાતા ખોલાવ્યા છે. આરંભ સારો થયો છે એટલે અંત પણ સુખદ રેહશે એવી આશા છે...

On 8th March 2014  an exhibition and sale of paintings by Smt. Bhartiben Prajapati was organised at Mantra Art Gallery. Bhartiben had pledged the proceeds from the sale of these paintings to VSSM. The venue for the event, Mantra Art Gallery was supported by noted painter Mrs. Nayna Soparkar. 

The event was able to raise Rs. 1.27 lacs, which has been donated to VSSM.

We are deeply grateful to  Bhartiben  and Naynaben for their compassion and support.  Such gestures reflect the growing sensitivity of society towards the issues of Nomadic and De-notified tribes. It also reaffirms our belief that more and more people need to come together to create a healthy society.

વિચરતા સમુદાયના લાભાર્થે અમદાવાદના જાણીતા ચિત્રકાર આદરણીય શ્રી ભારતીબેન પ્રજાપતિના ચિત્રોનું પ્રદર્શન સાથે વેચાણનું આયોજન તા.૮ મી માર્ચ ૨૦૧૪ થી કરવામાં આવ્યું. આ પ્રદર્શન માટે જાણીતા ચિત્રકાર આદરણીય શ્રી નયનાબેન સોપારકરે પોતાની મંત્ર આર્ટ ગેલેરી આપી. 

આદરણીય ભારતીબેને પોતાના ચિત્રોના વેચાણથી રૂ.૧.૨૭ લાખ વિચરતા સમુદાયના કામો માટે vssmને અનુદાનમાં આપ્યા. 

વિચરતા સમુદાયો વતી અમે ભારતીબેન અને નયનાબેનનો આ તબક્કે આભાર વ્યકત કરીએ છીએ. સાથે સાથે સમાજમાંથી વિચરતા સમુદાયોના ઉત્થાન માટે જે રીતે લોકો જોડાઈ રહ્યા છે તે માટે વિશેષ આનંદ.. વંચિતોના વિકાસ માટે સૌ સાથે મળીને પ્રયત્ન કરીએ તો ઘણું કામ થઇ શકે..

17 families received the BPL cards and 8 families received the Antyoday cards

A number of nomadic families from Patan's Sami block have their names listed in the BPL list and yet have received APL-1 category Ration Cards.  Inspite of an existant  government resolution stating that families featuring  in the BPL list have to be allotted  BPL ration card, the families were allotted APL cards. The application to amend the type of the card was made almost an year ago but the officials did not pay heed to the repeated requests. Same was the case with 8 nomadic families  living in makeshift  houses in Jesada village. These families have recently been allotted residential plots because of the efforts of VSSM. We made frequent requests to the concerned authorities to look into the matter and issue the appropriate cards to the families but there was no response from the local authorities. Finally a complaint was sent to the Food and Civil Supplies Department in Gandhinagar. The Mamlatdar was ordered by authorities in Gandhinagar to do the rightful. 17 families received the BPL cards and 8 families received the Antyoday cards.

૨૫ પરિવારોને મળ્યા BPL તથા અંત્યોદયકાર્ડ

પાટણ જીલ્લાના સમી તાલુકામાં રહેતા વિચરતી જાતિના અને BPL યાદીમાં સમાવિષ્ટ પરિવારો પાસે APL -1 પ્રકારનું રેશનકાર્ડ છે. BPL યાદીમાં જે પરિવારોનો સમાવેશ થયો છે તે પરિવારોને BPL રેશનકાર્ડ આપવાનો ઠરાવ છે. આ ઠરાવના આધારે સમી તાલુકાના ગામોમાં રહેતા ૧૭ પરિવારો જેમની પાસે APL -1 પ્રકારનું રેશનકાર્ડ છે અને તેમનો સમાવેશ BPL યાદીમાં થયેલો છે, તેમને ઠરાવ પ્રમાણે BPL રેશનકાર્ડ મળે તે માટે ૧ વર્ષ પહેલા મામલતદાર કચેરી – સમીમાં અરજી કરી હતી. આજ રીતે જેસડાગામમાં છાપરામાં રહેતા ૮ પરિવારો જેમને હમણાં જ vssm ના પ્રયત્નથી રહેવા માટે પ્લોટ મળ્યા છે, તે પરિવારોને અંત્યોદયકાર્ડ મળે તે માટેની રજૂઆત પણ કરી હતી.  પણ અમારી અરજી અન્વયે કંઈ કાર્યવાહી થતી નહોતી. આખરે ગાંધીનગર ‘અન્ન નાગરિક પુરવઠા અને ગ્રાહકોની બાબતના વિભાગ’માં રજૂઆત કરતા ગાંધીનગરથી મામલતદાર શ્રીને સુચના આપવામાં આવતા આ ૧૭ પરિવારોને BPL રેશનકાર્ડ તથા ૮ પરિવારોને અંત્યોદયકાર્ડ આપવામાં આવ્યા.

'વગડામાંથી વહાલપની વસાહત'

'વિચરણ' શબ્દ બહુ સારો છે. પણ વિચરતા સમુદાયની વાત કરવાની આવે ત્યારે સમજાય કે, એમના માટે 'વિચરણ' કેટલું કષ્ટદાયક છે! આજીવિકા માટે અહીંથી અહીંથી ત્યાં રઝળતા - ભટકતા રહેવાનું. વગડા વચ્ચે વલવલતું એમનું જીવન... અને ઘર તો શું? ઘરના નામે આછી - પાતળી આડશો... અને ક્યાંક તો તે પણ નહિ, છત પર માત્ર ઘાસ છાયેલું હોય કે ક્યાંકથી લાવેલું મીણીયું કે પ્લાસ્ટિક! આ સમુદાયોના પરિવારોમાંથી કોઈ ક્યારેય પાકા ઘરમાં રહ્યું નથી. vssm આવા પરિવારોને ઘર બાંધી આપવામાં મદદરૂપ થાય છે. આ વર્ષે અમે ૪૬૮ પરિવારોને 'વગડામાંથી વહાલપની વસાહત'માં લઇ જવામાં નિમિત બનવાના છીએ. જેની પહેલી site ડીસામાં શરુ કરી છે જ્યાં ૫૬ પરિવારોના ઘર બંધાઈ રહ્યા છે.

Charting the way

Extremely hardworking, responsible, honest, kind, unassuming, dedicated are just few adjectives to describe Jayatibhai Raval, the Sarpanch of Sisrana village group panchyat of Banaskantha's Vadgaum block.  The villages of Sisranan, Sardarpura and Bhatvas fall under this group panchyat.  The combined population of these villages is around 6000. 

The early life experiences of Jayantibhai have shaped him into the person he is today. Life has always been about duties and responsibilities for him. When he was very young he battled to save his parents who were engulfed in life threatening illness. Lack of financial resources to afford medical treatment they passed away when Jayantibhai was just 15. The responsibility of raising two younger siblings fell solely on him.  Some relatives did help by giving him land for farming. The earnings from farming helped ease the financial crunch but it required him to put in extreme labour. He raised his younger brother and sister with great care and sheer hard-work.  He dropped out of school to ensure that his siblings have enough to eat and can go to school. The way he conducted himself during these years earned him great respect and praise of family, neighbors and the community.  

In 2007 during a get-together organized by VSSM and Raval community the seeds of active participation in activities of development were sown in Jayantibhai's mind.  In the gathering he was selected to be the Vice-president of Raval-Yogi community.  Over the period his work for the upliftment of the community as the vice-president was much appreciated and won him the position of BJP's Executive Committee member for Vadgaum block.  As the committee member he got the opportunity to work for all, irrespective of their community, caste or class. The most important impact was the villagers of Sisrana began to see him as a candidate for Sarpanch in their next Panchayat elections. This was an unprecedented perception as the norm in our country is that only members of dominant community head the panchayat. The Ravals are not a dominant community in Sisrana, infact any of the Nomadic and De-notified community does not enjoy that status any where in the state. In most of the circumstances the villagers are hesitant to allow these communities to settle in their village just for the fear of their dominance. The total population of nomadic communities in Sisrana is around 1200 against the total population of 6000.   Hence majority of Sisrana contemplating to nominate Jayantibhai as their Sarpanch was exceptional. It was a clear indication of the village communities preferring to choose development over caste based politics. But the dominant communities challenged the popular sentiments. From emotional compulsions to threats to questioning how somebody from a nomadic community can be a leader, the opposition tried their best to ensure Jayantibhai's withdrawal. Jayantibhai even volunteered to withdraw as he felt one does not require to hold important positions to work for the masses. However, the community vetoed his suggestion and compelled him to contest the election. The rest was history.  Jayantibhai won the elections with humongous margin.  

The work that Jayantibhai has been doing has validated the trust the villagers put in him by electing him the Sarpanch. From roads, electricity, houses, overhead water tanks and tube wells, to ensuring that the benefits of various government schemes reach the most deserving, to better and effective functioning of schools, SMCs and anganwadis,  Jayantibhai's  leadership has delivered all of these. Under his tenure of just two years public works of around 2.5 crores have been implemented.  He has roped in equal participation of panchyat members as well as the community and ensured transparency and accountability in role. Getting documents from the village revenue officer required staying home at the cost of day's earning but Jayantibhai asks people to give the details to him at any time of the day, he passes it to the revenue officer and the document is prepared.

From a sleepy village before Sisrana now remains in news for the remarkable work its Sarpanch is doing. Jayantibhai has become an example for other to replicate as it goes on to prove that one does not need to belong to a particular class or caste or community to do a good job.  It is the will that counts.

हम हुँए कामियाब..

Gujarat में Nomadic and Denotified Tribes के लिए अगल से बोर्ड बने उस के लिए vssm की कोशिशे थी. हमने इसके बारे में मुख्यमंत्री को लिखा और आज (26/2/14) इन community के लिए अलग निगम बनाने की बात को विधायकोने विधानसभा में पारित किया...

मुख्यमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी और जिन्होंने इस काममे हमारी मदद की उन सभी का मै NT-DNT community की और से और vssm की और से आभार व्यक्त करती हूँ...

વંચિત અને ગરીબો માટે આ પ્રકારે સૌ નિસ્બત દર્શાવે તો કોઈ માં – બાપે પોતાનું બાળક ગુમાવવું ના પડે....

રાજકોટના જામનગર રોડ પર રાયધનભાઈ દેવીપૂજક પોતાના દીકરા મહેશ અને પત્ની સાથે ઝુપડુંમાં રહે. પત્ની કાગળ વીણવાનું કામ કરે અને રાયધનભાઈ છૂટક મજૂરી કરે. રાયધનભાઈનો મોટો દીકરો રાજુ આજથી છ વર્ષ પહેલા ગંભીર બીમારીથી  મૃત્યુ પામેલો.

પંદર દિવસ પહેલા vssm ના કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ રાજકોટ કલેકટર કચેરીમાં વિચરતી જાતિના પ્રશ્નો સંદર્ભે રજૂઆત માટે જઈ રહ્યા હતા. તેઓ જે શટલ રીક્ષામાં બેઠા એમાં રાયધનભાઈ અને તેમની પત્ની તેમના બીમાર દીકરા મહેશ સાથે બેઠા હતા. તેમની પત્નીના ખોળામાં મહેશ હતો અને તે રડી રહ્યા હતા. કનુભાઈએ આ પરિવારને રડવાનું કારણ પૂછ્યું. ત્યારે ખબર પડી કે ૮ વર્ષના દીકરાની કિડનીમાં પથરી છે અને તેના ઈલાજના પૈસા આ પરિવાર પાસે નથી. સરકારી દવાખાનામાં બી.પી.એલ. યાદી હોય તો બધૂ માફ થાય એવો જવાબ મળ્યો હતો પણ આ પરિવાર પાસે તો આ દેશના નાગરિક તરીકેનો કોઈ આધાર જ નથી. શહેરમાં ફૂટપાથ પર બાંધેલું ઝુપડું દર છ મહીને વહીવટી તંત્ર દ્વારા તોડી પાડવામાં આવે છે. આવામાં મતદારકાર્ડ રેશનકાર્ડ ક્યાં સરનામાનું બનાવવાનું! મોટો દીકરો રાજુ પણ આવી જ કોઈ બીમારીમાં મૃત્યુ પામેલો. રાજુની દવા માટે સગા-વહાલા પાસેથી ઉછીના પૈસા લીધેલા પણ સમયસર ભરી ન શકવાના કારણે મહેશની બીમારીમાં સગાઓમાંથી કોઈએ મદદના કરી. 

મહેશની દશા ખૂબ ખરાબ હતી. કનુભાઈ કલેકટર કચેરી જવાના બદલે આ પરિવારને લઈને સરકારી દવાખાને ગયા. મહેશની તપાસ કરાવી. ડોકટરે ૨૨ જાન્યુઆરી ૨૦૧૪ ના રોજ ઓપરેશન માટે દાખલ થવા કહ્યું. પણ મહેશની હાલત ખૂબ ખરાબ હતી. એ જે રીતે હેરાન થઇ રહ્યો હતો તે જોતા એને તત્કાલ સારવાર મળવી ખૂબ જરૂરી હતી.

રાજકોટ સ્થિત દેવ હોસ્પીટલના ડૉ. નીલેશ નિમાવત જેઓ આપણા કામોમો સતત મદદરૂપ થાય છે. તેમની સાથે ગઈ કાલે (તા.૧૭/૧/૧૪) મહેશની સ્થિતિ અંગે વાત કરી. એમણે મહેશને લઇ હોસ્પિટલ આવવા કહ્યું. મહેશને તપાસી એમણે મહેશને દાખલ કરવા કહ્યું અને સાંજે એનું ઓપશન કર્યું. 

ઘણા લાંબા સમયથી પથરીની પીડાથી હેરાન થતા મહેશને ડૉ. નીલેશ નિમાવતની મદદથી મુક્તિ મળી. મહેશ અને vssm પરિવાર ડૉ. નીલેશ નિમાવતના સદાય આભારી રહેશે. વંચિત અને ગરીબો માટે આ પ્રકારે સૌ નિસ્બત દર્શાવે તો કોઈ માં – બાપે પોતાનું બાળક ગુમાવવું ના પડે....

Changing perceptions – Changing mindsets

The outskirts of Bherda village of Rajkot district's Vakaner block had a permanent settlement of around 15 Saraniyaa families. There were 28 children between the school-going ages when VSSM first got in-touch with them. These children were unable to access school because of lack of documents, school principal's perception and parents nomadic living. VSSM initiated a bridge school in the settlement yet the issue of children not receiving continuous education persisted because of parents migrations. The children had to accompany the parents, as there was nobody to take care of them back home.

VSSM and parents tried working out an effective solution to this issue. After a series of consultations it was agreed children will stay back in the settlement as parents migrate, an elderly couple will remain to take care of the children, parents will contribute for one meal, VSSM will support another and mid-day-meal will suffice as lunch.

With the solution in hand, the Principal was approached for enrolling the children once they are were adjusted to school environment through the Bridge Schools. Inspite of our requests the Principal refused admission citing same old reasons.  It took us six months to convince him but now his perception for these kids have changed completely. He finds them to be the well-behaved and intelligent children compered to others in school.

Our Shining Stars

Last year we had shared with you the story of Suraj, a student with our Doliya Girls Hostel. She had won an inter school singing competition by coming first amongst children of 128 schools. This year too Shakir and Savan ours boys from  Vatsalya Boys Hostel have made us proud by coming first in at the district level inter school competitions. 7  years old Shakir won the writing competition whereas 11 years old Savan  Bajaniya won the singing contest. 

Shakir and his younger sister were left at an orphanage by their parents after they decided to dissolve their marriage and marry other partners. When Shakir’s maternal grandparents came to know about it they rushed to the orphanage to bring them back. The physical and economical limitations of this ageing couple prevented them to take required care of this kids. Shakir’s grandpa enrolled him to Vatsalya Hostel. His younger sister who is 4 years old and too young to stay in the hostel will join it once she is a bit grown up. 

Savan’s father is a mason and dreams of educating Savan all the way and provide him better earning options. 

The opportunities such educational facilities provide are incomparable. Apart from providing the care and nurturing,  they are helping these kids realise their true potential and achieve their aspirations.

૭ વર્ષનો શકીર અને ૧૧ વર્ષનો સાવન ‘શ્રી રાજ્શોભા સત્સંગ મંડળ સાયલા’ દ્વારા સુરેન્દ્રનગર જીલ્લાના વઢવાણમાં આયોજિત લેખન અને ગાયકી સ્પર્ધામાં ૧૨૮ શાળાઓ

માં પ્રથમ આવ્યા છે. આ બંને વિદ્યાર્થીઓ vssm સંચાલિત અને ‘આરતી ફાઉન્ડેશન’ (ધન્વલ્લભ ચેરીટેબલ ટ્રસ્ટ)ની મદદથી ચાલતા ‘વાત્સલ્ય કુમાર છાત્રાલય’માં ભણે છે.

શકીર વાંકાનેરમાં પોતાના નાનાજી ના ઘરે રહેતો હતો. એના મા-બાપે શકીર અને શકીરથી નાની બહેનને અનાથાશ્રમમાં મૂકી બીજે લગ્ન કરી લીધા. જયારે શકીરના નાનાને આ બાબતે ખબર પડી ત્યારે એમને ખૂબ દુ:ખ થયું . તેઓ અનાથાશ્રમમાંથી  બંને ભાઈ બહેનને લઇ આવ્યા અને પોતાની પાસે રાખ્યા. પરંતુ એમની આર્થિક હાલત એટલી સારી નહોતી કે, બાળકોને ભણાવી શકે એટલે એમણે શકીરને આપણી હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણવા મુક્યો. શકીરની નાનીબહેન ૪ વર્ષની છે. એ મોટી થાય પછી એને પણ આપણી હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણવા મુકવાની શકીરના નાનાજીની ઈચ્છા છે.

અમારી હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણતા આ તેજસ્વી તારલાઓને અમારા સૌના શુભઆશિષ અને અભિનંદન. આમતો દરેક બાળક તેજસ્વી તારલા જેવું જ છે પણ શકીર જેવા બાળકોને આપણી હુંફની વધારે જરૂર છે અને સાવન જેવા બાળકને આપણા સહયોગની વધારે જરૂર છે..

Subhan gets a new lease of life, thanks to a concerned and empathetic doctor and VSSM team…

The Dafer are know for their notoriety, in the days bygone this tribe engaged in looting and robbing people and villages. But this was decades ago. It is an occupation that they have given up. Yet, the entire tribe faces the wrath of society and administration for the misdeeds of a few fellow tribesmen. Such attitude has always kept this tribe at the margins. It is hard to find even single Dafer family with proper roof on its head, leading a life of dignity.

Five years old Subhan was born in this much tabooed tribe. Her father Valibhai guards village and farm boundaries an occupation that most of the Dafer are engaged with these days. Just a month after Subhan’s birth a tumour began growing around her naval. Her parents anticipated it to go away in sometime, but the tumour kept growing with time. The poor economic conditions of the family kept them away from seeking medical consultation. When Subhan was around 3 years old her father did take her to a doctor, who had advised that it need to be romped surgically. The cost of the surgery and other medical treatments was too much for Valibhai to afford, so he decided against the treatment advised by the doctor.

VSSM team happened to see Subhan during a settlement visit and immediately inquired about the reasons behind her such condition. On hearing the case Dr. Nileshbhai’s from Rajkot immediately came into our mind. Dr. Nileshbhai is a very compassionate doctor who belives in giving back to the society. We briefed him about this case. ’Send the daughter to me, don’t worry about the expenses, we will take care of it. On 26th January Valibhai reached Dev hospital in Rajkot, all the preliminary tests were conducted, Subhan was diagnosed with advanced case of Hernia. She was operated upon on the next day. A week later a hail and hearty Subhan was discharged from the hospital.

'Had it not been VSSM and such a sympathetic doctor, Subhan would never have got well. Our daughter has got a new life. We can't thank you enough,’ said Subhan’s parents with tears in their eyes.

Each day our cities see a new medical facility coming up, the urban areas are mushrooming with clinics and hospitals. And yet, the people who need such facilities the most remain deprived of accessing such them. The cost of even the basic medical treatments have risen steeply with time. When the middle class and upper middle class need to fall back on their medi-claims, the people living on margins can’t even dream of crossing the thresholds of a clinic!!! In such scenarios doctors like Nileshbhai who bring out the nobility of this profession are like Messiahs. We can’t thank him enough. May his tribe increase……..

“vssm ના હોત તો અમને આવા દયાળુ ડોક્ટર ના મળત"

પાંચ વર્ષની સુભાનનો જન્મ વગડામાં ડફેર પરિવારમાં થયો. ડફેરની છાપ સમાજમાં ચોર –લુંટારા તરીકેની. પણ આ ચોર ગણાતી જાતિમાં ચોરી કરી એક રૂમનું પાકું ઘર બનાવનાર એક પણ વ્યકિત આજ સુધી મને મળ્યો નથી. સુભાનના જન્મ્યાના મહિનામાં જ એની ડુંટીમાં ગાંઠ થવા માંડી. મા-બાપની આર્થિક સ્થિતિ એટલી સારી નહિ કે, દવાખાને જઈને બતાવી શકે. વળી થોડા દિવસમાં મટી જશે તેવી લાગણી પણ ખરી. પણ સુભાનની ગાંઠ દિવસે દિવસે વધી રહી હતી. ૩ વર્ષે સુભાનને ડોક્ટર પાસે લઇ જવામાં આવી. ડોકટરે ઓપરેશનનું કહ્યું, એટલે સુભાનના પિતા વલીભાઈ સુભાનને લઇ ઘરે આવી ગયા. “ઓપરેશનનો ખર્ચ તો કેટલો બધો થાય મારી પાસે પૈસા તો હતા નહિ. એટલે સુભાન પીડાયા કરતી પણ એની દવાનું કંઈ ઠેકાણું હું ના પડી શક્યો!”  વલીભાઈએ સુભાનને ડામ પણ દેવડાવ્યા.. પણ ગાંઠ મટી નહિ. નાનકડી સુભાનની પીડા વધી રહી હતી આવામાં ડામની પીડા એણે કેમ કરી સહન કરી હશે?

સુભાનના પિતા વલીભાઈ ડફેર સીમ રખોપું કરે. માંડ માંડ પૂરું થાય આવામાં ઓપરેશનના પૈસા કયાંથી લાવવા? થોડા દિવસ પહેલા સુભાનની સ્થિતિ વિષે અમને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો. પૈસાના વાંકે સુભાનની દવા નથી થઇ રહી એ જાણ્યું.. તુરત વંચિતો માટે લાગણી ધરાવતા ડૉ.નિલેશ નિમાવત યાદ આવ્યા. એમની સાથે વાત કરી એમણે કહ્યું, “દીકરીને મોકલી દો આર્થિક ચિંતા ના કરો જોઈ લઈશું.” સુભાનના પિતા સાથે વાત કરી એ તો રાજી થઇ ગયા. ગયા રવિવારે(તા.૨૬ જાન્યુઆરી ૧૪) વલીભાઈ સુભાનને લઈને દેવ હોસ્પિટલ રાજકોટ પહોચ્યા.. સુભાનને તપાસતા જ ડૉ. નિદાન કર્યું કે, હર્નિયા છે. રવિવારે જ report થઇ ગયા અને સોમવારે ઓપરેશન થયું.. આજે ઓપરેશનને એક અઠવાડિયું થયું. હવે સુભાન મજામાં છે. આજે એને હોસ્પીટલમાંથી રજા આપી.

સુભાનની માં અને એના પિતા કહે છે કે “vssm ના હોત તો અમને આવા દયાળુ ડોક્ટર ના મળત. મારી દીકરીને નવી જિંદગી મળી. એમણે આંખમાં આંસુ સાથે આ કાર્યમાં મદદરૂપ થનાર સૌનો આભાર માન્યો.”

vssm નિમિત બન્યું પણ નિલેશભાઇ જેવા ડોકટરે આવા દર્દીઓ માટે હાથ ના લંબાવ્યો હોત તો અમે કંઈ ના કરી શક્યા હોત. દરેક શહેરમાં રોજ નવી હોસ્પિટલો ખૂલી રહી છે પણ ગરીબો માટે કેટલી? એ પ્રશ્ન સૌથી મોટો છે. આજે મધ્યમવર્ગના પરિવારમાં પણ કોઈ બીમારી આવે તો તેને પોસાતું નથી.. ત્યારે વલીભાઈ ડફેર જેવા પરિવારોને તો ક્યાંથી પોસાય? આવામાં વંચિત માટે લાગણી રાખી એમને મદદરૂપ થવાની ભાવના દાખવવાવાળા ડૉ.નીલેશભાઈના અમે આભારી છીએ.. હવે અમારા સંપર્કમાં આવતા વંચિત અને બીમાર લોકોને અમે નિસંકોચ દેવ હોસ્પિટલ રાજકોટ મોકલીએ છીએ જ્યાં એમની વ્યથાને સમજી મદદરૂપ થતા ડૉ. નીલેશ નિમાવત છે....   ફોટોમાં હર્નિયા સાથે સુભાન અને ઓપરેશન પછીની સુભાન છે..
