Traditionally the Salat community was involved with the occupation of maintaining and selling manual flour mills. However with the collapse of this occupation they now roam around and are engaged in selling bedsheets, carpets etc.
22 Salat families staying in Vijapur have been able to acquire Voter Cards and BPL Ration Cards as a result of efforts by VSSM.Currently, we are in process of filing applications for residential plots for these families. One of the mandatory documental requirement for processing the application for a residential plot is of a 'caste certificate', only when a family has a caste certificate it is entitled to receive a free plot from the government. Acquiring a caste certificate is one of the most lengthy procedures. A government ruling dated 6/2/08 empowers the Mamlatdar or any government official to grant caste certificate. Hence when the extremely proactive Mamlatdar of Vijapur Shri. Tank was briefed about the issue he immediately asked us complete the necessary procedures and submit the papers in the Mamlatdar office. When a sensitive and empathic officer is at the realm of such matters how swift these tasks become!!! Ever since Shri. Tank has been in charge of Vijapur the daily hurdles we face in ensuring entitlements for nomadic tribes have greatly decreased.
Acquiring a plot is a time consuming process and take time sometimes years hence in the meanwhile we have been peeping up these Salat families to begin saving for the house they will be constructing soon. The government provides Rs. 45,000 for construction of house which is not going to be enough for building a home. The families have agreed to do so by opening a bank account.

વિજાપુરમાં રહેતા ૨૨ પરિવારોને vssm ની મદદથી મતદાર કાર્ડ, BPL રેશનકાર્ડ મળ્યા. હવે આ પરિવારોને સરકાર દ્વારા પ્લોટ મળે એ માટેની દરખાસ્ત તૈયાર કરી રહ્યા છીએ. જે માટે જાતિનું પ્રમાણપત્ર જોઈએ જ અને તે મળે તો જ વિચરતી અને વિમુક્ત જાતિઓને મફત પ્લોટ ફાળવાના ઠરાવ પ્રમાણે પ્લોટ મળી શકે. સરકારે જાતિ પ્રમાણ પત્ર મામલતદાર શ્રી તથા અન્ય અધિકારી આપી શકે એ માટેનો ઠરાવ તા.૦૬/૦૨/૨૦૦૮ના રોજ કર્યો છે એ ઠરાવના આધારે આપણે મામલતદાર શ્રીટાંક સાહેબને વાત કરી અને એમણે આ પરિવારોના ફોર્મ ભરીને આપી દેવા કહ્યું. એક સંવેદનશીલ અધિકારી ચાહે તો કેટલું થઇ શકે એનું ઉત્તમ ઉદાહરણ શ્રી ટાંક સાહેબ છે એમના આવવાથી વિજાપુરમાં વિચરતી જાતિઓના ઘણા કામ ખૂબ સરળ થઇ ગયા છે.
સલાટ પરિવારોને આપણે કહ્યું કે, ‘પ્લોટ મળશે. સરકાર રૂ.૪૫,૦૦૦ મકાન સહાય આપશે.(એમના નામ BPL યાદીમાં નથી એટલે નહિ તો રૂ. ૭૦,૦૦૦ મળે.) પણ આટલી રકમમાંથી ઘર બનવાના નથી. તમારી બચત પણ જોઈએ ને.. હજુ પ્લોટ મળવામાં ઘણો સમય લાગી જશે ત્યાં સુધી બચત તો શરુ કરી દઈએ તો ઘર બાંધવામાં એ કામ લાગશે. આપણી વાત માની આ પરિવારો બેંકમાં ખાતા ખોલાવવા તૈયાર થઇ ગયા.’
નીચે ફોટોમાં vssm ના કાર્યકર તોહીદ સલાટ વસાહમાં આ પરિવારોના બેંકમાં ખાતા ખોલાવવાના તથા જાતિ પ્રમાણ પત્ર મેળવવામાટેના ફોર્મ ભરતા જોઈ શકાય છે.
ઉપર પ્રમાણે જ વિજાપુરના ડફેર પરિવારોના પણ બેંકમાં ખાતા ખોલાવ્યા છે જેની પાસબુક પણ જોઈ શકાય છે. બસ આ પરિવારો વધુ મહેનત કરી બચત કરતા થાય તે કરવાનું છે...
