Work begins in Vadia for rainwater harvesting…..

A few  of weeks back we had written about our efforts on sensitising the community of Vadia towards rainwater harvesting.  Our constant well wisher and guide Shri. Rashminbhai Sanghvi from Mumbai  had briefed the families on the same and provided guidance on how to go about it. He had advised them to deepen the already existing ditch the village had in its periphery. This was intended to  accumulate the rain water so as to  recharge the ground water. 

The community of Vadia is on a path of rehabilitation. The families are choosing to stop pushing their daughters in to sex trade, instead they are sending them away for education. So creating other sources of income for these families is very crucial. Agriculture is becoming one of the prime occupations here but availability of water is a big issue. One bore well isn’t enough to meet the demands of a 100 families. Hence it is important these families harvest whatever little rain the region receives. 

Will the families do it was a big question because it was not an individual job but a community effort as the common property was being created. To our surprise the families have began digging a canal to take the rain water to this  large  ditch (as seen in the picture).

The community of Vadia requires our support, once they are up and about they will not need our help and the demonstration of such  sincerity shows that day isn’t very far…..

વાડીયાના પરિવારોએ વરસાદી પાણી સંગ્રહ કરવા કેનાલ ખોદવાનું શરુ કર્યું...

બનાસકાંઠાના વાડિયા માટેની એક ધારણા જનમાનસ ઉપર પડી ગયેલી કે આ ગામના લોકો કોઈ દિવસ મહેનતનું કામ ના કરે. એમને એમની બહેન –દીકરીઓને દેહવ્યાપાર કરાવીને સરળતાથી મળતાં પૈસામાં જ રસ છે. જોકે આ વાત કેટલાક અંશે મોટાભાગના પરિવારો માટે સાચી પણ હતી. ગામના પુરુષોની કામ કરવાની કોઈ માનસિકતા જ નહોતી. પણ હવે આ પરિવારો પોતે આ દોઝખ ભરી જિંદગીમાંથી બહાર આવવા ઈચ્છે છે. ખેતીવાડી તો એમણે શરુ કરી છે. જ્યાં પાણી પહોચે એવી તસુ એ તસુ જમીન એમણે ખેતીલાયક કરી દીધી છે અને એમાં કાળી મજૂરી કરવા માંડી છે.

ગામમાં સિંચાઈ માટે એક બોરવેલ છે જે પુરતો નથી બીજો બોરવેલ કરવો છે. પણ એ પહેલાં જમીનમાં પાણીના તળ નીચે જઈ રહ્યા છે અને બોર બનાવીને પાછું પાણી ખેંચવાનું? જમીનમાં પાણી ઉતાર્યા વગર ખેંચ્યા જ કરીશું તો એક વખત પછી એ પાણી પણ ખૂટવાનું. વળી બોરવેલ ચલાવવાનો ખર્ચ પણ ખરો. આ બધી બાબતો ઉપર મુંબઈના આદરણીય શ્રી રશ્મિનભાઈ સંઘવીએ આ પરિવારો સાથે ખુબ વિગતે વાત કરી અને ઉકેલરૂપે જમીનમાં પાણી ઉતારવાનું, ગામમાં તળાવ તો ના કહી શકાય પણ એક મોટો ખાડો છે એને ઊંડો કરીને ગામનું ચોમાસાનું તમામ પાણી એ ખાડામાં ભરવાનું નક્કી થયું. આ બધું નક્કી તો થયું પણ આ લોકો કામ કરશે કે કેમ એ પ્રશ્ન હતો. કામ વ્યક્તિગત નહિ પણ સહિયારું હતું એટલે. પણ આશ્ચર્ય વચ્ચે એમણે તળાવ (ખાડા)માં પાણી લઇ જવા માટે કેનાલ ખોદવાનું કામ શરુ કરી દીધું છે. જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે. 

સંસ્થાગત રીતે vssmના શુભેચ્છક દાતા શ્રી રમેશભાઈ કચોલીયાએ તળાવ ઊંડુ કરવા માટે આર્થિક મદદ કરવા કહ્યું છે. આ પરિવારોને એક વખત બેઠા કરવાની જરૂર છે અને એ થઇ જશે પછી એમને આપણી જરૂર નહિ રહે.. અને એ દિવસ ઝટ આવશે એ હવે લાગી રહ્યું છે..
