There are moments in an individual’s life where inspite of all inherent honesty he /she posses the choices he /she makes to earn livelihood might not be all that righteous. One such individual Jayantibhai Raval has been residing in Kamod, a small village near Ahmedabad since last 12 years. He went to school till 5th grade. The manual labour jobs he did were not enough to feed his brood so he took up the trade of making alcohol (Gujarat begin a dry state any trade related to alcohol is illegal).
VSSM has had its presence in Kamod since last couple of years. A Bridge School for the children of nomadic communities functioned in the settlement. Once all the kids were mainstreamed with the village school the Bridge school was discontinued, We have been instrumental in helping 50 individuals acquire their voter ID cards, 25 families receive their Ration Cards and many other development related activities in the settlement. One day during a meeting in this regards to opening of bank accounts our team member Smt. Ilaben came to know about Jayantibhai’s new occupation. Ilaben failed to understand why an otherwise wise and sensitive Jayantibhai would choose a trade like this. Jayantibhai said, ‘ there was no option left so he chose to get into this trade.’ Ilaben advised him to choose another trade and informed him that VSSM would provide the required support.
After almost a fortnight Jayantibhai visited VSSM office with a proposal of buying a loading auto. However, it was impossible for VSSM to lend the entire amount required to buy the rickshaw but Jayantibhai asked for just the amount required for down payment i.e. Rs 30,000/-. Stating that he would manage the remaining amount from somewhere else.
‘somewhere else would mean too much of interest," How will you manage that? we enquired.
‘Ben, I am willing to work hard and the fruits of labour are always sweet. I am confident that I will be able to repay the money.’ assured a very confident Jayantibhai.
Looking at the confidence of Jayantibhai there was no question of denying him the loan for downpayment. On 18th May 2014 we gave the loan, Since then he has been punctual in repayment of installments.Every month between 7th to 10th Jayantibhai comes to office without fail and instalments. He never missed a single installment so far.
‘We hope it is not becoming cumbersome for you to manage the installment!’ we asked one day.
With a smile on his face Jayantibhai replied, ‘I target earning Rs. 900 to 1000 everyday, without which i do not go home. Till now God has been kind. I also have a few some regular customers as well.’He added:
Jayantibhai’s kids are studying at our Doliya Hostel. ‘You are taking good care of us. The kids are studying well. What is left for us to worry about??’

vssm ની સ્થાપના કર્યાનું લેખે લાગ્યું..
જયંતીભાઈ રાવળ અમદાવાદ શહેરની નજીક કમોડ ગામમાં છેલ્લાં ૧૨ વર્ષથી રહે. પાંચ ધોરણ ભણેલાં જયંતીભાઈ છૂટક મજૂરી કરે પણ પરિવારની સંખ્યા મોટી એટલે બધાનું પૂરું કરવું એમના માટે મુશ્કેલ બનતું હતું. છેવટે દારૂ ગાળવાનું કામ શરુ કર્યું.
ક્મોડમાં વિચરતી જાતિની વસાહતમાં આપણે વૈકલ્પિક શાળા ચલાવતાં હતાં. બાળકો નિયમિત સ્કૂલમાં જવા માંડ્યા એટલે આપણે ત્યાં શાળા બંધ કરી પણ આ વસાહતના ૫૦ ઉપરાંત લોકોને મતદાર કાર્ડ, ૨૫ ઉપરાંત પરિવારોને રેશનકાર્ડ અપાવવામાં આપણે નિમિત બનેલાં. વળી બીજા પણ ઘણા કામોમાં આપણે એમને મદદરૂપ થઈએ એટલે વસાહતમાં નિયમિત જવાનું થાય. એક દિવસ વસાહતના લોકોના બેંકમાં ખાતા ખોલવા બાબતે વાત થતી હતી એવામાં vssmના કાર્યકર ઇલાબહેનને કોઈએ કહ્યું કે, જયંતીભાઈ દારૂ ગાળવાનું કામ કરે છે. જયંતિભાઈ આમ તો ખુબ સંવેદનશીલ અને સમજૂ માણસ. દારૂથી થતી બરબાદી પણ જાણે છતાં આ વ્યવસાય પસંદ કરવાનું કારણ સમજાતું નહોતું. એમની સાથે વાત કરી એમણે કહ્યું, ‘વિકલ્પ નથી દેખાતો’ ઈલાબહેનને જયંતિભાઈને દારૂ ગાળવા સિવાયનું બીજું કોઈ પણ કામ પસંદ કરવાં કહ્યું અને જરૂર પડે લોન સ્વરૂપે vssm આર્થિક મદદ પણ કરશે એવી ખાત્રી આપી.
જયંતીભાઈએ ૧૫ દિવસનો સમય લીધો. તા.૧૫/૦૫/૨૦૧૪ ના રોજ એ vssmની ઓફીસ પર આવ્યાં. એમણે લોડીંગ રીક્ષા ખરીદવા મદદ કરવાં કહ્યું, લોડીંગ રીક્ષા માટે જેટલી રકમ જોઈએ એટલી vssm આપી ના શકે. એમણે કહ્યું, ‘મારે ડાઉન પેમેન્ટ ભરવાના રૂ.૩૦,૦૦૦ જોઈએ છે તમે એટલી જ લોન આપો બાકીની વ્યવસ્થા હું બીજેથી કરીશ.’
‘પણ એનું તો વ્યાજ કેટલું બધું હશે! અને એ લોન સાથે સાથે vssm ની લોન તમે ભરી શકશો?’
‘બેન મહેનત કરવાની છે અને મહેનત કરવાં હું તૈયાર છું અને મહેનતના ફળ હંમેશાં મીઠા હોય છે..મને વિશ્વાસ છે હું કરી લઈશ તમે ચિંતા ના કરો.’
એમની વાતમાં એમને એટલો ભરોષો હતો જે જોતા લોન ન આપવાનો પ્રશ્ન જ ઉભો નહોતો થતો. આપણે એમને તા.૧૮/૦૫/૨૦૧૪ના રોજ રૂ.૩૦,૦૦૦ ની લોન આપી એમણે ફોટોમાં દેખાય છે એ રીક્ષા ખરીદી. vssmમાંથી લીધેલી લોનનો હપ્તો આપવાં જયંતીભાઈ દર મહિનાની ૭ થી ૧૦ તારીખ
માં vssm કાર્યાલય પર આવે. હપ્તા બાબતમાં આજ સુધી ચૂક થઇ નથી. રૂ.૩૦,૦૦૦ માંથી રૂ.૧૨,૦૦૦ની લોન એમણે ભરપાઈ પણ કરી દીધી. આજે એ ઓફીસ આવ્યાં ત્યારે એમને પૂછ્યું, ‘જયંતિભાઈ આ બધું ગોઠવી જાય છે? તકલીફ નથી પડતી?’ ત્યારે મોઢા પર સરસ સ્મિત સાથે એમણે કહ્યું, ‘રોજના બે ફેરા ના મળે ત્યાં સુધી ઘરે નહિ જવાનું. રૂ.૯૦૦ થી રૂ.૧૦૦૦નુ કામ મળવું જ જોઈએ એવો લક્ષ્ય રાખ્યો છે અને આજ સુધી ભગવાને એ સિદ્ધ કરાવ્યો છે. રોપા ઉછેરવાળાનું કામ તો મેં બાંધી જ લીધું છે.’
એમની દીકરી અને દીકરો vssm સંચાલિત ડોળીયા હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણે છે. ‘બાળકો બરાબર ભણે છે કે નહીં?’ એ અંગે પૂછ્યું ત્યારે એમણે કહ્યું, ‘અમે ગામડાંમાં, તમારાથી દુર રહીએ છીએ છતાં તમે અમારું ધ્યાન રાખે છો તો બાળકો તો તમારી પાસે જ છે. એટલે અમારે શું કામ ચિંતા કરવાની?’
વિચરતા પરિવારોના મોઢે આવું સાંભળું ત્યારે થાય કે vssm ની સ્થાપના કર્યાનું લેખે લાગ્યું..
કુદરત ઉદારદિલ દાતાઓના માધ્યમથી સદાય આવા કામમાં નિમિત બનાવે...
