The Ranuj village of Patan district has a monsoon settlement of 10 Vansfoda families. The families were engaged in their traditional occupation of making cane baskets and other cane items but since the bamboo has become too expensive they cannot afford to pursue making them anymore. Since last many years wander from village to village selling plastic buckets, baskets, tubs and other household stuff.
The villagers from Ranuj were totally opposed to the idea of these families settling in the village permanently. Every time talks about completing the formalities of making them permanent residents of the village would initiate and the villagers would come up with one or other objection. They even gave negative recommendations about these families when the proposal for granting them plots was made initially. Basis this the applications were rejected.
It has taken four years of persistent efforts by VSSM and a team of extremely sensitive and dedicated officials to make the dream of owning a residential plot a reality for these families. After the initial rejection the applications were made again with all the possible relevant documents this time on recommendation of Additional Collector Shri. Bharatbhai Joshi an extremely cooperative officer. However, a recommendation made by Circle Officer that was attacked with the file got lost in the process. It is extremely difficult to get such a document again but the officials helped and we sailed through. A request for allotting plots in survey number 976 to these families was made. Same plot was also requested by others for an animal shelter. But the relentless visits to the concerned offices by VSSM’s Mohanbhai, the goodness of Additional Collector and sensitivity of Collector resulted in an order allotting plots to these families on the requested plot number on 18th November 2014.
‘ We have been working hard on this matter for last 4 years, the last tim it was rejected we had absolutely lost hope,’ recounts a jubilant Mohanbhai. 'Had it no been the support of the concerned authorities this would not have been possible. Sri. Additional Collector Shri. Bharatbhai called me at 8 in the night to convey the good news. He was equally delighted. Next day morning when I went to his office to express my gratitude he said finish all the necessary procedures till I am in this office, if there is any delay who knows all this can again come to a halt, we never know,’ narrates Mohanbhai on his meeting with Bharatbhai.
Mohanbhai has just gone to school till 7th grade yet the respect he receives from senior officials, so much so the even the Collector has instructed his PA to direct Mohanbhai’s phone calls to him to never reject his calls. He has even asked Mohanbhai to call him up whenever there is a need to do so.
VSSM is extremely thankful to these officials for there relentless support. We congratulate Mohanbhai for his accomplishment for the Vansfoda families and his dedication for the causes of nomadic communities.

ચાર વર્ષની મહેનતના અંતે ૧૦ વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફળવાયા
પાટણ જીલ્લાના રણુજ ગામમાં ૧૦ વાંસફોડા પરિવારો વર્ષોથી રણુજગામમાં ચોમાસું પસાર કરે. આ પરિવારોનો પરંપરાગત વ્યવસાય વાંસમાંથી સુડલા –ટોપલા બનાવવાનો પણ વાંસ મોંઘો થતા હવે આ વ્યવસાય એમને પોસાતો નથી. હવે તેઓ પ્લાસ્ટીકના તબકડા, ડોલ, ટબ વેચવા ગામે ગામ ફરે છે.
રણુજગામમાં આ પરિવારોના કાયમી વસવાટ સામે ગામલોકોનો સખત વિરોધ. એટલે જયારે પહેલીવાર એમના માટે રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટની માંગણી કરી ત્યારે ગ્રામ પંચાયત દ્વારા આ પરિવારોના વસવાટની વિગતો અને હકારાત્મક અભિપ્રાય ના મળતાં દરખાસ્ત ના મંજૂર થઇ હતી. પ્રાંત કલેકટર શ્રી ભરતભાઈ જોશી ખુબ ભલા અને સંવેદનશીલ અધિકારી એમની મદદથી આ ફાઈલ શક્ય પુરાવા સાથે ફરી મૂકી. પણ ફાઈલમાં મુકેલો સર્કલ ઓફીસરનો અભિપ્રાય ખોવાઈ ગયો. માંડ મેળવેલો દસ્તાવેજ ફરી મેળવવો થોડો મુશ્કેલ બની જાય. પણ પ્રાંત અધિકારીની મદદથી બધું પાર પડ્યું. મૂળ સર્વે નંબર -૯૭૬માં આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફળવાય એની આપણે માંગ કરી હતી. આ પ્લોટમાં પાંજરાપોળ માટે પણ જમીનની માંગણી હતી. પણ vssmના કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈના સરકારી દફતરના ધક્કા, પ્રાંત અધિકારીની ભલમનસાઈ અને કલેકટર શ્રીની લાગણીના કારણે આ પરિવારોને તા.૧૮-૧૧-૧૪ ના રોજ પ્લોટની ફાળવણીનો હુકમ થયો.
vssmના કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈ આ બાબતે વાત કરતાં કહે છે, ‘છેલ્લાં ચાર વર્ષથી આ બાબતે મહેનત કરતાં હતાં. વાંસફોડા પરિવારોએ તો ફાઈલ ના મંજૂર થઇ ત્યારે આશા પણ ખોઈ નાખી હતી પણ અધિકારીગણની લાગણીથી આ થઇ શક્યું. પ્લોટ ફાળવણીનો હુકમ થયો એ અંગે મને રાતના ૮ વાગે પ્રાંત કલેકટર સાહેબે ફોનથી જાણ કરી. અમે જેટલાં ખુશ હતાં એટલાં જ એ પોતે પણ ખુશ હતાં. બીજા દિવસે આભારની લાગણી વ્યક્ત કરવાં ગયો ત્યારે એમણે કહ્યું, મોહનભાઈ હવે જલ્દી પ્લોટની માપણી અને બીજી વિધિ પતાવો. હું છું ત્યાં સુધી હું મદદ કરીશ. મોડું કરો અને વળી પાછું આ બધું ખોરંભે ના પડી જાય એ આપણે જોવાનું છે.’ મોહનભાઈ જેવા ૭ ધોરણ ભણેલાં vssm ના કાર્યકરને શ્રી ભરતભાઈ ખુબ સન્માન આપે. કલેકટર શ્રી ઠક્કર સાહેબે પણ એમના પી.એ.ને સુચના આપી હતી કે, ‘મોહનભાઈનો કોઈ પણ બાબતમાં ફોન આવે તો મને આપવાનો, ના નહી પાડવાની’ અને મોહનભાઈને કહ્યું હતું, ‘જયારે મારું કામ હોય ત્યારે મને ફોન કરવાનો એમાં જરાય સંકોચ નહિ રાખવાનો..’ આ અધિકારીગણનો vssm પરિવાર આભાર વ્યક્ત કરે છે.
દેશ દુનિયામાં વસતી અને જેમને પણ સ્થાઈ રહેવું છે એવા તમામ વિચરતા – વિમુક્ત પરિવારોને ઝડપથી એમનું સરનામું મળે એવી લાગણી છે.. રણુજના વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને અને એમની માટે અપાર લાગણી ધરાવતાં મોહનભાઈને અભિનંદન ..
